"Makhesa, the fifth bishop, the god of Life. His followers, blessed by him, never knew true death again. From the moment the Bearer of the Purple Crown appeared, the world was cursed to eternal existence. The other Bishops, oh, they thrived on this, binding their flock with trust and loyalty.
But eternal life came with a price. The longer beings dodged death, the closer the Curse came, poisoning mind and body. The cursed, they lost themselves, piece by piece — self-control, memories of loved ones, compassion... all replaced by an insatiable hunger and emptiness. The fight against the Curse was futile, with medicines and resources dwindling year after year.
Makhesa began to doubt. What is Life without an end? What is the purpose of his existence, to guard a suffering, decaying immortal world? Would it not be kinder to free the world from this curse he so loved?
The Bishops feared change, they feared finitude. But most of all, they feared losing their brother. So, they imprisoned the god of Life in limbo, where he could wield the Purple Crown's power no longer.
Ah, but the cards were dealt, and fate was sealed. The prophecy spoke of a new Bearer of the Purple Crown, destined to emerge. And all would come to know the god of Death, the deliverer from the Curse, the harbinger of the end of all things".
— Makhesa and The Goat get along well with each other; they have a trusting relationship. — Makhesa allows The Goat to come to Limbo at any time. — From Makhesa, one can get descriptions of items and small lore fragments. — Makhesa is a proponent of the idea that the world does not need either the Crowns or the bearers of the Crowns.

「 Part 1 of MakhesaAU comic 」
I wanted to show an interaction between Narinder and Makhesa to drop some headcanons abt how their worlds intersect and how it relates to Makhesa's Curse. ────────────────
BTW:
First, I mirrored the last frame so that you guys wouldn't break your necks :p
Second, I also wanted to draw your attention to the fact that the last frame is a reference to the Ritual of Resurrection icon. Like, it perfectly matches Makhesa's palette, WHY WOULDN'T I...

🔮 🐿️ Squirrau, the previous vessel of Makhesa and the mentor of The Goat, was once cursed for defying the God of Life. Condemned to eternally rot from within by the Curse, akin to a restless living corpse. Despite his punishment, Squirrau retained his skills and sanity.
The Curse is a poison for every living being. However, Squirrau devoted much of his service to control it. He believed that daily intake of the poison would eventually weaken its effect. Yet, he never fully subdued the Curse.
Despite his suffering, Squirrau remained loyal to Makhesa. His blind love for the Bishop was stronger than his pain. To this day, he spends most of his time praying before the statue of the God of Life, hoping to hear Makhesa’s voice again.
In time, Makhesa gave Squirrau a chance to atone and tasked him with mentoring The Goat, their new vessel and the bearer of the Purple Crown. The Goat proved to be strong, fierce, ruthless, and unstoppable — even the Curse couldn’t hinder them.
The Beast… that’s what Squirrau called The Goat since he first beheld Makhesa’s chosen one.
— Squirrau sometimes feels jealous of Makhesa's attention to The Goat, much like a devoted follower is jealous of their God’s attention to another follower. — Squirrau's favorite weapon in the past was a dagger. — Squirrau performs the same functions as Ratau. — Most likely, while serving as a vessel, Squirrau killed his friends by Makhesa's will, without the possibility of resurrection.

hihihi i adore your goat au, the art for it makes me feel soft and fuzzy. i was wandering, how did you came up with makhesa's name? (feel free to share any other things about how the development of au went–and is going–if you'd like, it's always super interesting to see how people's brains go from a to b!!)

First of all, thank y'all, I am pleasantly surprised and glad that you liked Makhesa!!!
Soon, I will try to reveal more details about my Goat AU — and for convenience, I will be posting all stuffs about it under the tag #MakhesaAU

Makhesa name meaning
This name, as well as a few other name options, was suggested to me by my beloved co-author ⊹ ࣪ ˖ @zttqqq ˖ ࣪ ⊹, special thanks to him!
▶ We were looking for a name in Sanskrit because the name Narinder has the same origin.
Tumblr media
In the end, I settled on Makhesa. I like its translation — 'One who is a lord of sacrifices'. This is NOT an alternative to how the Bishops call Narinder 'The One Who Waits', I will think about that later.
Nevertheless, it's ironic that the name of the God of Life refers to sacrifices. Usually, a sacrifice implies Death, but in the case of Makhesa, it can be interpreted as a sacrifice for the sake of ‘eternal life', since forced resurrection, the inability to find peace after death, and the risk of being resurrected cursed — is nothing but a sacrifice of the followers, mortal by nature, for the glory of the Bishops.
💭 (just my idea, in fact, the translation of the name was not the reason for my choice, so you guys may have your own thoughts on this matter)

▶ There's something else I found out later. In some texts, Makhesa is a variant of the name of Mokosh — one of the main slavic goddesses.
Tumblr media
Her name consists of two parts: 'mo' — mother and 'kosh' — basket. She is the goddess of abundance and fate. An essential attribute in her depiction is a cornucopia or a spindle, with which she spins the 'thread of fate'.
Interestingly, this is somewhat similar to Makhesa's fate. The other Bishops, using the powers of the God of Life, made him a symbol of abundance and prosperity, and after being trapped in limbo, Makhesa wanted to change the fate of his world according to his own plan.

But the main reason I chose this name for Makhesa is… I just liked how IT SOUNDS, GUYS, HONESTLY, LSDFJKHDSKLLSDFKL
(I should have written this from the very beginning and just ended it, but that's no fun, right?)

Would you mind if I took inspiration from Makhesa & the idea of them being tied to the curse for my own 'Goat's Narinder' interpretation? They'd have a unique design & lore of course, but your idea was really cool and made me want to work on my own opposite narinder :3
Not at all, feel free to get inspired! You can also tag me/post about Makhesa as a source of inspiration, if you want

Just a discussion about how the characters' names sound in russian
