ASA uses embedded acrylate rubber in a styrene-acrylonitrile matrix instead of butadiene rubber used in ABS, which acts as an impact modifier. The recommended 3D printing temperature for ASA filament is in-between 230 °C to 250 °C, with a greater preference towards the higher settings. A heat bead is an absolute necessity when 3D printing ASA filament. The recommended temperature for the printing bed is 110 °C. Also, the use of a good adhesion is necessary here, such as ABS juice and Kaptons Tape. The use of Kaptons tape will help your 3D prints to have a well-finished and glossy bottom. Don’t use a cooling fan during 3D printing ASA filament, as it’s prone to wrap. It’s recommended to use a heated chamber or enclosure to keep the prints warm and keep cool drafts out.

Drawback of ASA

As for the drawbacks, ASA requires a high 3D printing temperature as well as bed temperature, making your 3D printing process energy-intensive. Unfinished ASA 3D prints are highly sensitive to temperature, wrapping, shrinkage, and cracking.
