Mitchell Black (shaking hands emoji) Dorian Chase
Reboots of the character theyre a legacy of clearly trying to make them more heroic that still managed to retain the vibes of the bastards previous, only to get ignored and never used again shortly after being introduced
#Dorian did last alot longer then Mitchell to be fair#important part of a titans arc and continuously annoying Dick Grayson AND got to get#beat up by Batman before he got thrown in the trash. Mitchell died the second L.A.W ended#Also yeah obviously I compare them in my head because theyre a peacemaker and vigilante#it is FUCKED they never got to meet#Its fucked no Peacemaker and Vigilante legacy got to meet!!! Wasted opportunity!!!#Make Mitchell have to deal with Patricia!#Also yeah I do think Dorian was a attempt at a more heroic Vigilante which is also hilarious because hes also like#the most obvious 'Vigilante sucks' Vigilante if you just look at his backstory#Like thats why I think hes like that hes the most self aware and what really gets them all is the whole Not Realizing What They Are thing#Im listening to my Dorian playlist. Sorry.

Within my group’s project theme; performance, I decided to focus specifically on theatre. In this playlist I focused mostly on the musical theatre genre, which was born out of theatre. Included are songs from Broadway musicals, or movies that were adapted from those musicals. There are a few songs from Disney musicals, and two honorable mentions from Mitski, an artist who I feel captures the beauty within the loneliness people tend to feel at night perfectly. I tried to recreate the ‘ups and downs’ of a night out in the city. Beginning with a need for escape, we are then travelling out to the city and excitement builds. We are dazzled by all the beauty that the city at night has to offer. This beauty is created mostly by the performers, the entertainers, and those who work within the nighttime economy. During our night, we might get into trouble, we might find romance or we might romanticize, and finally towards the end of the night we return home. The duration of the playlist is one hour and thirteen minutes.
Below, are the songs that are included in the playlist. We begin with “Music of the Night” from Phantom of the Opera, one of the most popular and longest running musicals in the history of Broadway. This song is entirely about discovering how splendid night can be. We can see this in many of the lyrics, for example, “Night time sharpens, heightens each sensation / Darkness wakes and stirs imagination / Silently, the senses abandon their defenses.” (Weber, 1987) , and it is a perfect opener for our playlist.
The next four songs give us the feeling of making the decision to venture out into the night. “Wig in a Box” from Hedwig and the Angry Inch is the story of a drag queen as they get into drag. One of the many performative subcultures that thrives in nighttime, before the popularity of RuPaul’s Drag Race propelled many drag queens to major celebrity status. “Out Tonight” from Rent tells of the danger and excitement, the transgressions one is more likely to commit once darkness falls; “I wanna commit a crime / Wanna be the cause of a fight / I wanna put on a tight skirt / and flirt with a stranger” (Larson, 1996).
Once we figuratively arrive in the city, we enjoy some songs highlighting the work of performers, labourers, and entertainers. Burlesque performers and sex workers from “Welcome to Burlesque” sung by Cher, to “Lady Marmalade” sung by Christina Aguilera. “Our Lady of the Underground” from Hadestown features the goddess Persephone as she deals illegal substances, like sunlight or rainfall, to members of the underworld. Dr. Facilier, played by Keith David, in “I Got Friends on the Other Side” plays a similar role. Both of which profit heavily on the nighttime economy where the trade of illegal substances or occult happenings are more popular.
From “Tonight” in the musical West Side Story to “Touch-a, Touch-a, Touch Me” in The Rocky Horror Picture Show we focus on songs that tell of a certain romance. These songs don’t necessarily feature performers and labourers of the nighttime economy, but fleeting romances may take place at night nonetheless, and I felt that songs that perform such a feeling were important to include. Socializing and attempting to find love is a large reason why people go out at night.
The remaining four songs in the playlist are slower. The energy winds down as the hours start to dwindle into the early morning. They are songs that reminisce and that try to capture a memory. Night is ephemeral, and once it is over we have our splendid memories to ruminate on until we have the chance to experience it again.
Songs on this Playlist
Castle on a Cloud by Isabelle Allen (Les Miserables)
The Music of the Night by Andrew Lloyd Webber (The Phantom of the Opera)
Wig in a Box by John Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig and the Angry Inch)
Road to Hell by Andre De Shields, Hadestown Original Broadway Company, Anais Mitchell (Hadestown)
Out Tonight by Daphne Rubin-Vega (Rent)
Townie by Mitski (Bury Me at Makeout Creek)
Welcome to Burlesque by Cher (Burlesque)
Sweet Charity: Big Spender by Cy Coleman (Sweet Charity)
Lady Marmalade by Christina Aguilera (Moulin Rouge)
Our Lady of the Underground by Amber Gray, Anais Mitchell, Hadestown Original Broadway Company (Hadestown)
Don’t Tell Mama by Natasha Richardson, Alan Cumming, Cabaret Ensemble (Cabaret)
Friends on the Other Side by Keith David (Princess and the Frog)
Time Warp by Little Nell, Patricia Quinn, Richard O’Brien (The Rocky Horror Picture Show)

Select L.A. County/California Races, March 3, 2020
Hi friends, it’s me again. I am here to offer my opinions on how you should vote. As before I am up front about my biases: I am a Warren supporter, I live in L.A. and I am actively pro-density (Yay SB50, you deserved better) and pro-transit. I live in the east Valley, so I tend to focus more closely on the issues that directly impact my side of town, though I try to keep an ear out on things countywide.
Last time I did this a couple of folks reached out to give me gifts to say thanks for doing this guide. This year, I would encourage anybody who wants to say thanks to donate $5 to Fair Fight, a group founded by Stacey Abrams to fight voter suppression in the 2020 election. We’re gonna need all the help we can get in November to defeat the GOP, and Abrams is doing it in a smart way.
Other voting guides
This is my voting guide and reflects my general opinion on things. However, I am indebeted to many other guides, including the Knock L.A. Voter Guide and the L.A. Podcast Voter Guide for their takes. I don’t always agree with them, but both of these are invaluable resources for the progressive voter in Los Angeles.
L.A. City Council
This year the even numbered seats are up for re-election. Half of them are effectively uncontested, a couple are very much contested, and two are free for all because of term limits.
CD2: Ayinde Jones
Look none of these candidates set my heart afire. I work with Councilmember Krekorian’s office a lot (remember, I live in the east Valley) and he’s a competent politician with a ton of endorsements and community ties, I have no illusion he’s going to win his full term comfortably on March 3. However, I believe it’s good to encourage competition, and Ayinde Jones did a good (not great) job at the candidate forum I attended hitting on themes of how the parts of CD2 north of Victory are being left behind as the area evolves. I wish he were better on S50, but then again all three candidates were opposed, so that’s kind of a wash. I look forward to hearing more from Jones in the future.
CD4: Sarah Kate Levy
From a paucity of options to a surplus of options next door. CD4 is currently represented by David Ryu, a politician who came out of the Neighborhood Council system and went on to become...a city hall politician. Both his opponents are great. Nithya Raman is the founder of SELAH, a group that does amazing work helping the unhoused in Los Angeles, and recently led Times Up! Hollywood for a year. I’d vote for her in a heartbeat, but I am encouraging people to vote for Sarah Kate Levy for two reasons: first, Levy is unabashedly supportive of SB50 and we need this kind of leadership, and second I am hoping these two excellent women will get so many votes that they overwhelm Ryu and leave him in third place. Fingers crossed.
CD6: Bill Haller
This is another shoo-in. Nury Martinez is the City Council president and has the backing of the County party and all the local clubs. I am endorsing Bill Haller because he supports an agenda that includes more public funding for affordable housing, more and better transit, and climate justice.
CD8: Marqueece Harris-Dawson
There are no other candidates in this race, so congratulations on your re-election Councilmember Harris-Dawson.
CD10: Aura Vasquez
This is an open seat, and the smart money has Mark Ridley-Thomas as the frontrunner. Ridley-Thomas is a current member of the L.A. County Board of Supervisors (more on them later) who is termed out of that position. I’m endorsing Aura Vasquez, a progressive activist with ties to Mid-City who has served as a commissioner for LADWP and led fights for renewable energy, banning single use plastics, and housing affordability in her community.
CD12: Loraine Lundquist
Dr. Lundquist rules. She takes public transit to debates, she is an honest to goodness scientist, and she nearly beat a Republican in what is the most conservative district in L.A. during a special election. I have donated money to this lady because we need to win this one. Her opponent, John Lee, wasted no time in trying to block housing for the homeless in his district and in attacking a successful safer streets project on Reseda Blvd. The city has a chance - a really great chance thanks to the realigned municipal elections - to toss out the worst possible councilmember in favor of the most progressive voice, don’t mess it up.
CD14: Cyndi Otteson
This race is Kevin de Léon’s to lose, but he won’t commit to serving a full term since he really wants to be mayor. I say let him have his spare time to run for mayor and select Ms. Otteson, a grassroots activist who has the support of the UTLA and who is the only voice in favor of the Colorado Blvd alignment of the NoHo to Pasadena BRT project. Transit equity matters, and Ms. Otteson deserves your vote this March.
LAUSD School Board
Deferring to the teachers’ endorsements on this one.
Board Seat 1: George McKenna
Board Seat 3: Scott Schmerlson
Board Seat 5: Jackie Goldberg
Board Seat 7: Patricia Castellanos
Glendale City Council: Dan Brotman
An environmental activist with progresive views, Brotman will be a useful voice in Glendale’s city hall.
District Attorney: Rachel Rossi
George Gascón and Rachel Rossi will both be light years better than the current county D.A., Jackie Lacey. Both have promised to make substantial reforms in the office. I am really torn on this one, since I think Gascón’s experience as a Deputy DA in San Francisco is a big deal, and since he has the backing of the County Party. I am endorsing Rossi in a tilt-at-windmills hope that somehow she and Gascón make it to the final ballot in November and give us a thoughtful debate between a career prosecutor bent on reform and a public defender whose goal is reform about methods and ideas. Anyway, don’t vote for Jackie Lacey is all I am saying here.
Superior Court
Voting for judges is stupid. We shouldn’t be doing this, but since we have to, I’ll make some suggestions. My math is based on other progressive endorsements, Party endorsements, and reverse-engineering some well known conservative voting guides to, if nothing else, make sure I am not voting for their endorsement.
Office 17: Shannon Kathleen Cooley (the race is uncontested)
Office 42: Linda Sun
Office 72: Myanna Dellinger
Office 76: Emily Cole (Cole is a prosecutor, but her opponent is a man who literally changed his name to “Judge” after serving as a judge in Stanislaus County)
Office 80: Klint James McKay
Currently an administrative law judge, he impressed Public Defender Union representatives with his thoughtful and articulate answers to their questioning.
Office 97: Sherry L. Powell (Powell’s opponent ran as a conservative Republican for state assembly in 2018, this is a defensive vote)
Office 129: Kenneth Fuller
Office 131: Michelle Kelley (the race is uncontested)
Office 141: Lana Kim (the race is uncontested)
Office 145: Troy Slaten (Slaten’s opponent has a troubling history of misconduct and should not be elected to a judgeship)
Office 150: Tom Parsekian
Office 162: David D. Diamond
L.A. County Board of Supervisors
The Supervisors oversee policy for the County, including all unincorporated areas, the LASD, County Health services, etc. For a county of TEN MILLION PEOPLE, there are only five supervisors, so they have a hugely outsized influence.
Seat 2: Jorge Nuno
A lot of progressives are endorsing Holly Mitchell in this seat. Me, I just can’t go there when she’s speaking at events for Livable California and when she gave a floor speech opposing SB50. Though he’s the front runner, Herb Wesson doesn’t deserve your vote - he was City Council president when the homelessness crisis exploded and he’s done little to address it. Nuno is a progressive and has an ambitious platform.
Seat 4: Janice Hahn
She’s solid, and nobody’s pushing her from the left.
Seat 5: John Harabedian
Kathryn Barger, the incumbent, is a Republican who supports Trump’s immigration policies. John Harabedian is a solidly Center Left Democrat who has the backing of the county party and who could, in this presidential election year, win an upset in what is traditionally a Republican stronghold of L.A. County. Vote for him.
County Ballot Measures
Measure R: YES YES YES
This will provide crucial tools to the already existing civilian oversight committee for the LASD, including subpoena powers. It also requires the commission to study ways to divert offenders from jail. You need to vote yes on this.
State Ballot Measures
Prop 13: Yes
$15B in bonds to invest in public schools and “local control” to allow local school districts to issue larger bonds. The only real opposition is from the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, a revanchist organization that is singlehandedly responsible for much of our state and local problems in the past few decades. Don’t listen to them.
Congressional Elections
Despite some misgivings, I am generally supporting the progressive challengers here to hopefully lead to a Progressive/Center Left election in the fall.
CD 25: Christy Smith
She has a good track record in the state assembly and a strong local support network. She’s not a carpetbagger with a YouTube show, and she’s not a Republican.
CD 28: Adam Schiff
He’s not the most progressive guy in Congress but he’s been critical to holding Trump accountable. He’s earned this vote.
CD 29: Angelica Duenas
Tony Cardenas is a bit of a non-entity on the national stage but he does good local work and he was an early vote in favor of impeachment. The rape allegations against him which troubled me last time were dismissed with prejudice in 2019. Cardenas has a progressive challenger, Angelica Marie Duenas, who has run in the past as a Green Party candidate. I don’t trust her decision to abandon that label and come into the Democrats after getting drubbed in 2018, but overall I like her ideas and I’d be happy to see her and Cardenas in a runoff this year.
CD 30: CJ Berina
Brad Sherman is an okay Congressmember. CJ Berina is a young, progressive challenger who’s attracted the attention of the Sunrise Movement. I’d vote for him to try to push the GOP out of the runoff and make this a race between the Center Left and the Progressive Left.
CD 34: Frances Yasmeen Motiwalla
Jimmy Gomez is solid; let’s push the GOP out of the runoff though by supporting this progressive.
State House
District 39: Luz Rivas
District 41: Chris Holden
District 43: Laura Friedman
District 44: Jacqui Irwin
District 45: Jesse Gabriel
District 46: Adrin Nazarian
District 48: Blanca Rubio
District 49: Edwin Chau
District 50: Richard Bloom
District 51: Wendy Carillo
District 53: Godfrey Plata
District 54: Tracey Jones
District 55: Andrew Rodriguez
District 58: Margaret Villa
District 59: Reggie Jones-Sawyer
District 62: Autumn Burke
District 63: Anthony Rendon
District 64: Fatima Iqbal-Zubair
District 66: Al Muratsuchi
District 70: Patrick O’Donnell
State Senate
SD 21: Kipp Mueller
SD 23: Abigail Medina
SD 25: No Endorsement - I rarely do this but honestly Anthony Portantino does not deserve your vote. Write in Mickey Mouse.
SD 27: Henry Stern
SD 29: Josh Newman
SD 31: Richard Roth
SD 33: Lena Gonzalez
SD 35: Steven Bradford
County Committees
Look this is getting waaaaaaaaaaaaaay into the weeds. What I am going to say is this: I know that a lot of “progressive” slates are out there and I encourage you to try your best to vet them. In my district, one of the candidates is somebody I know personally - she actively campaigned for Jill Stein, she circulated the decades-old “Clinton Death List” to voters, and she pushed Pizzagate theories. I am not voting for this person, but she is endorsed by “Progressive California” so...just be careful.

Like Georgians, Jacobites and some of the most awesome romance novels? A Patricia Veryan pusher post
I have just discovered that Patricia Veryan, a writer of romance novels set in Georgian and Regency time, has had the bulk of her books reissued on kindle.
So this is a giant pusher post.
Who is Patricia Veryan, you may ask. She was a British writer of romance novels who was old school enough to belong to the style of Georgette Heyer and Jeffery Farnol (who deserves his own pusher post), instead of the newer but now old “bodice ripper, rapey” school like Woodiwiss, Rogers et al. Her novels have plots, no sex scenes and are swoonily, amazingly romantic. She also did her research and they feel like true period novels, not modern people in period clothes prancing about.
They are full of swashbuckling, angsty heroes with awful families, strong heroines fighting off villains, conspiracies unmasked, swords at dawn, tons of hero torture and gorgeousness. Does it sound good? It should.
As I mentioned above, she wrote both regencies and Georgians, but I am gonna talk about the latter series today, because they are all on kindle. Her two Georgian series are The Golden Chronicles (set in the aftermath of Bonnie Prince Charlie's 1745 uprising) and Tales of the Jeweled Men (ditto). TGC follow the supposed treasure that Bonnie Prince Charlie amassed to help his Rebellion, which disappears, and which now the good guys are trying to get to the donors and bad guys want for themselves. There are six books in the series (though there are two earlier books, Mistress of Willowale and The Wicked Widow, which tie into it too. MoW is not available on kindle but TWW is and is a delightful Georgian romp with a rakish, cynical hero who ends up adoring the spunky, cheerful, pragmatic heroine. I am rereading it RN). * Practice to Deceive - Penelope Montgomery always meant to marry Quentin Chandler but he went off and joined the Jacobite rebellion and her family died and she's stuck with her awful aunt and uncle. Quentin resurfaces when he comes to her for assistance but he gets captured by her psycho family and tortured for info about the treasure. Penelope rescues him and they go on the run. I loooove this book. Penny is not flighty or dim or anything but calm, a little reserved, very ladylike, yet awesome. And I have a crush on charming, funny, h/c magnet Quentin. My fave Veryan character, Roland Mathieson, first appears in this one as the bad guy's henchman who kinda wants Penelope. * Journey to Enchantment - the hero of this one is Penelope's brother Geoffrey and heroine a Scottish gal Prudence McTavish. I remember liking it OK (short version - Geoffrey is Jacobite Scarlet Pimpernel) but was not particularly in love. * The Tyrant - love this one. Phoebe Ramsay ends up being stuck in an engagement to Meredith Carruthers as a cover for some Jacobite-related smuggling. I love both fashionable, fun Phoebe and cool, common-sense, angstmuffin Mededith (we are introduced to the first but not the last of Veryan's horrific parents in this one - I am not sure whether I hate his father or his mother more) and we see more of Roland who actually ends up helping the lead couple, in a very ironic, standoffish way, while sneaking bad guy bits now and then. * Love Alters Not - super super super obsession. Dimity Cranford, in order to lead soldiers away from an injured Jacobite family friend, ends up in all sorts of complicated embroglios which ultimately lead her pretending to be someone else entirely, that someone a woman trying to disposess Sir Anthony Farrar, an English army captain in the late Rebellion, who has been ostracized by everyone for running at the battle of Prestopans, leading to the rout of his unit and *da-dun* making Dimity's brother crippled. So much angst and hurt/comfort and awesomeness, you have NO idea. I think Dimity/Anthony are my favorite Veryan OTP which is saying a huge huge deal. Also, I believe I was gibbering and screaming at my book during Anthony's trial. Roland appears again and this is the book I fell for him in - he's sort of Anthony's friend and is thoroughly delicious. * Cherished Enemy - follows Robert McTavish (Prudence's brother) and Rosamond Albritton, sister of a recurring character. Tbh, it's my least fave in the series, though I don't hate it or anything, so I don't remember it much. * The Dedicated Villain - LOOOOOOVE! Roland gets a book! And what a book! Roland is on the hunt for the Jacobite treasure, comes across a troupe of actors (or are they?), which includes the tiny (short ladies represent!) but fierce and awesome Fiona Bradford - will he actually change his mind about his obsession? The Dedicated Villain is my favorite of her Georgians (well, that, and Love Alters Not are probably tied). I mean, Roland and Fiona! This series actually manages to do a convincing job of moving Roland from villain to antihero to hero with me buying the transition; also it explains why he starts out the way he does without making it a full excuse. TDV is also one of the very few books that maxed out my hurt/comfort love - PV never really went much for h/c of the physical as opposed to emotional sort in general but Roland's torture scenes in TDV are beyond brutal, I was kinda reading through my fingers and bawling (one of my vivid memories is being high school age, sitting under a tree during the very hot summer, reading that stuff and sniffling). But oddly, it didn't feel gratuitous because it was sort of karma for some of the stuff he did, especially to Quentin in Practice to Deceive (though what happened to him was miles worse than what happened to Quentin). And props to Veryan for having the guts to give him permanent damage. Jeweled Men follows a nefarious conspiracy to take over certain strategic properties to stage an invasion and a bunch of sexay aristocrats who stumble on the plot and decide to fight it (think 18th century Pimpernel). * Time's Fool - follows Gideon Rossiter, a discharged officer who's just returned from the Continent, and his attempts to figure out why his family's properties and wealth imploded. Heroine is Naomi Lutonville, Gideon's erstwhile fiancee. I normally wouldn't like Naomi - she's high-maintenance and dramatic, but I adore her to bits. I ship them like crazy, too. * Had We Never Loved - my first Veryan! Clearly, I was impressed. Horatio Glendenning (remember Jacobite family friend in Love Alters Not? That's him) fought for Bonnie Prince Charlie so his future is not so good. His OTP is a feisty gypsy, Amy Consett, who is NOT discovered to be a Duke's daughter in disguise or anything. It's a lovely lovely book and they are a lovely lovely OTP. * Ask Me No Questions - Quentin's staid older brother Gordon gets his own books. There are all sorts of machinations, but this is not a huge favorite. Gordon and Ruth Allington are nice people but give me Penny and Quentin's humor and reckless courage any day. If you like nice and mature leads though, this one is for you. * A Shadow's Bliss - like amnesia? This book is for you. Ruth's amnesiac bro Jonathan tries to solve the mystery of a shipwreck he was involved in blah blah heroine is Jennifer Britewell and I literally remember nothing about her. Or Jonathan, for that matter, other than he has amnesia. The reason to read this book is the recurring characters of August Falcon, Jamie Morris, and Gwendolyn Rossiter. I read Jeweled Men as if was coming out and remember devouring each book for even the slightest hint of progress between cynical, cutting August and smart, unimpressed Gwendolyn - they are one of my fave Veryan OTPs, together with Dimity/Anthony, Roland/Fiona, and Mitchell/Charity from Sanguinet books. * Never Doubt I Love - Dimity's bro finds love. Once again, I was in it for finding out what makes August tick, Jamie's adoration of August's sis Katrina, and Gwen and August's sexy sparkle. It’s a good book on its own merits though and has a hero with a disability, which was unusual at the time. * The Mandarin of Mayfair - EEEE! EEEEE! I still remember pre-ordering this book and rolling in mad glee (hyperbole. Or is it?) August and Gwen get their own book, plus the conspiracy gets finally unmasked, there is kissing and hurt/comfort and gals being the ones to propose. The OTP is beyond amazing - August is so smart and lethal and functional despite his major issues arising out of the fact that as 1/4 Chinese he’s looked down as a mongrel by “polite” society (I love that Veryan's heroes never wallow), Gwendolyn is full of common-sense and rescues him from prisons and bad guys and won't let anyone bash him (himself included, but also their friends, which turn on him for spoilery reasons. I still have residual rage about it. Katrina, you are the worst sister ever and dead to me!) I think the ending is a little pat to resolve the very real issues he has with marrying Gwendolyn and dragging her into his life, but at that point they've been through so much hell, I didn't even care.
My favorite OTPs in her Georgian series are are four-way time between ladylike Penelope x incorrigible adventurer Quentin in PtD, tormented and self-abasing Anthony and fearless Dimity in LAN, reformed villain Roland x not really an actress Fiona in TDV, and deadly and messed up August x fearless and clever Gwen (btw, Gwen is a heroine with a disability, which, once again, was an unusual thing at the time.) Worst father award goes to Roland's father (die in a fire, please!) and worst mother is either August's or Meredith's. Coolest family is either Dimity's or Horatio's. Favorite brother-sister pair are Gwen and Gideon Rossiters.
Basically, you should go read them yesterday!
PS Disclaimer. I used to run a Veryan listserve in the really old days. So I am biased. But she is a rare author I am rereading 20 years later and still love.
PPS If you are a Veryan fan, come talk to me!

all of people + lorna! ❤️
👁️ EYE - what colour are their eyes? do people notice their eyes? is there anything special about them (shows emotion easily, literally magical...)?
Lorna's eyes are hazel. Her mother's eyes. Given the poor relationship the two had, it was something of a sore subject for Lorna for a while. Personally, she doesn't think there's anything special about her eyes though many have complimented her for how pretty they are.
🤥 LYING - are they good liars? do they have tells to show they're lying?
Lorna can be a good liar when she needs to be. She doesn't really like lying that much but she recognises that sometimes it's necessary to hide the truth in certain situations.
👻 GHOST - do they believe in ghosts? what are their "ghostly experiences", if any?
Lorna used to be a believer of ghosts - or at least the sense that something came after death. Though I don't think she quite imagined Freakers being one of them.
💥 COLLISON - what emotions do they have trouble dealing with?
Lorna struggles a lot with the 'happier' emotions. Partly due to the numerous tragedies she suffered leading up to the outbreak and what happened after, she has trouble expressing joy, happiness, and love. Things became really difficult for her after Margot died where she effectively shut herself off from most people (even Tig) and threw herself into her work and just...surviving. As time has gone on and she's slowly started to process her grief (among other things) she's become more happier and playful, more like the Lorna she used to be way back when.
😭 CRYING - what makes them cry? do they cry easily?
She's isn't the sort of person who cries often anymore. Seeing so many deaths and other horrid things over the years has left her sort of numb to it. Still, speaking of Margot is a sure-fire way to get the waterworks going. And no doubt if anything bad happened to the people she cared about she'd get more than a little teary eyed.
👊 PUNCH - are they quick to violence?
Not really. Working security Lorna knows she has to keep something of a levelhead or else she'd be scrapping with anyone who looked at her funny. If provoked enough it wouldn't take her long to get a bit more forceful, however.
💢 ANGER - what are some habits they have that will take some getting used to?
Personally, I don't think she has many habits that would take getting used to 😅
👪 FAMILY - what is their family like? what is your ocs relationship to them? does your oc have any siblings?
Lorna is the eldest daughter born to Mitchell 'Mitch' and Patricia Douglas. Her mother left when she was around sixteen and Lorna had a poor relationship with her following that (though they were never on good terms due to Patricia's lacklustre parenting). She was very close with her father until he passed away shortly before the outbreak hit. Despite quite the age gap, Lorna was very close with her younger sister, Margot, and was absolutely wrecked when she died and she couldn't do anything to prevent it.
😨 FEARFUL - when scared, do they go into "flight" or "fight"?
Definitely more of a 'fight' response. Though if the situation was bad enough and the odds seemed stacked against her it would possibly lean more towards 'flight'.
💤 SLEEPING - do they fall asleep easily? what helps them sleep?
Actually, Lorna sleeps surprisingly well! A bit prone to restlessness here and there but generally doesn't have any trouble falling to sleep. Definitely sleeps easier when Levi's with her or knowing he's safe.

NFL free agency grades 2021: Live analysis of every free agent signing and trade
The NFL free agency and trading period is here for 2021 with the new league year set to go into effect on Wednesday, Although several players are staying off the market, either re-signed or franchise-tagged by their teams, many others are set to change teams, by either signing with or being traded to another team.
As the news happens, Sporting News will provide the latest analysis of the most significant moves around the NFL right here.
NFL FREE AGENCY 2021: Ranking the top 50 players overall, best by position, tracking signings
NFL free agency 2021: Grading the latest signings, trades
Chiefs sign G/T Joe Thuney for 5 years, $80 million
Grade: A+
In a surprise move because of some cap issues that caused the Chiefs to cut former starting tackles Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz, they restructured enough contracts to make one big free-agency splurge for the former Patriots rock of a blocker. Thuney can either play left guard, his most frequent spot in New England, or right tackle, where he filled in well last season. Either way, the Chiefs get a powerful force in his prime to help both protect Patrick Mahomes and open holes for Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
Patriots sign EDGE Matthew Judon for 4 years, $56 million
Grade: A
The Patriots are trying to rebuild their pass defense with a mix of versatile youngsters (now including former Eagles cornerback/safety Jalen Mills for 4 years, $24 million) but they needed a bona fide productive rusher. Here they pluck Judon from the Ravens with a hearty deal to be a multiple position fit for Bill Belichick.
Browns sign S John Johnson III for 3 years, $33 million
Grade: A+
Cleveland had some of the weakest safety play in the NFL in 2020. Now they get a player who had a huge impact cleaning up for the elite Rams’ defense last season. Johnson covers a lot of ground vs. run and pass. He’s great coming up in support like an extra linebacker (105 tackles). He can make plays on the ball like a corner.
Patriots sign TE Jonnu Smith for 4 years, $50 million
Grade: A-
The Patriots finally splurge for capable experienced starter to help replace Rob Gronkowski with this strong former Titans blocker who also has high receiving upside. Smith is going into his only age 26 season and should use his athleticism to be a key pass-catcher all the way through the red zone for Cam Newton and/or a rookie QB. Smith’s also versatility fits well with Josh McDaniels and Bill Belichick. The only concern is durability for such a high price.
Buccaneers re-sign EDGE Shaquil Barrett for 4 years, $72 million
Grade: A
The Buccaneers continue their mastery of the cap in making sure all the key pieces and top priorities in free agency stay from their Super Bowl 55 time. Barrett took a mild “hometown discount” to stay, too, and will continue to wreak havoc opposite Jason Pierre-Paul.
Jaguars sign DT Roy Robertson-Harris for 3 years, $24.4 million
Grade: C
This is the first big outside move by the coaching/GM combination of Urban Meyer and Trent Baalke. It’s not bad to add a solid defensive tackle to the rotation for Joe Cullen’s hybrid front, but it’s about your typical, average signing.
Lions re-sign DE Romeo Okwara for 3 years, $39 million
Grade: B
He was a bright spot in a disappointing season for the end of Matt Patricia’s defense with a breakout 10-sack season. The Lions may have overpaid a bit for limited sample size, but they are desperate to have a youn gfoundation up front for the Dan Campbell era.
49ers re-sign FB Kyle Juszczyk for 5 years, $27 million
Grade: A
His name is hard to spell and his role is hard to define, but with his blocking and pass-catching, he’s an invaluable versatile cog in Kyle Shanahan’s offense.
49ers re-sign CB Jason Verrett for 1 year, $5.5 million
Grade: A
This is also is underrated move by John Lynch given all the free-agency issues elsewhere in the secondary. Verrett was very good at times in 2020, much like his prime younger Chargers self. He will start for a nice price.
Ravens sign G Kevin Zeitler for 3 years, $22 million
Grade: B
The Giants had to say goodbye to his services but the Ravens, hurting in the interior without Marshal Yanda, find their solid replacement right guard.
Packers re-sign RB Aaron Jones for 4 years, $48 million
Grade: A
The Packers avoided using the franchise tag on him and gave him a reasonable deal tied with his prime as a strong all-around back. He will form a nice punch with A.J. Dillon going forward to keep supporting Aaron Rodgers.
Colts trade for Eagles QB Carson Wentz
Grade: A-
The Colts made a calculated move for a young QB with a lessened contract for them, hoping Wentz will get his grove back with Frank Reich and a better support system overall.
MORE: Full Carson Wentz trade analysis
Rams trade for QB Matthew Stafford
Grade: B-
The Rams gave up a lot hoping they got a big upgrade at the position, but Stafford isn’t exactly that and he’s a older QB with recent major durability issues and a notable history of not winning (or getting to) playoff games.
Lions trade for QB Jared Goff
Grade: A
Goff is a pretty decent bridge QB for a promising new offense with Anthony Lynn with some talented young skill players. Plus, the Lions also are in great shape with two extra first-rounders out of the deal and maybe didn’t downgrade all that much with a chance for Goff to rebound with a change of scene.
MORE: Full Stafford for Goff trade analysis
Cardinals sign DE J.J. Watt for 2 years, $28 million
Grade: A
The Cardinals got the Texans legend for pretty good market value coming off another strong all-around season. He’s a perfect fit for a 3-4 front that needed a player like him badly.
Cowboys re-sign Dak Prescott for 4 years, $160 million
Grade: A
Prescott got his needed big money now and a chance to break the bank in relation the market in not too much later. The Cowboys also won by getting big cap relief and locked up their young, elite long-term QB.
Buccaneers re-sign LB Lavonte David for 2 years, $25 million
Grade: A
The Buccaneers not only kept their top disruptive pass rusher, but they also made sure their defensive leader and second-level glue didn’t go anywhere.
Franchise-tagged players
Chris Godwin, WR, Buccaneers (tendered at 1 year, $15.9 million)
Grade: A
The Buccaneers weren’t about to let a key Tom Brady target — arguably his true new go-to guy — walk in their quest to repeat.
Allen Robinson, WR, Bears (tendered at 1 year, $18 million)
Grade: B
The Bears need to keep Robinson badly, but it doesn’t look like he’s thrilled to stay unless the QB situation improves. They’re also extended themselves cap-wise without a real QB solution.
Taylor Moton, RT, Panthers (tendered at 1 year, $13.75 million, re-signed)
Grade: A
This rebuilding team with a promising offense needed to keep a sturdy, young, all-around blocker for whoever the next starting QB is. This was a no-brainer at the price.
Justin Simmons, S, Broncos (tendered at 1 year, $13.7 million)
Grade: A
Safety still has a favorable value to tag Simmons again, much needed for Denver because of other major secondary issues.
Cam Robinson, LT, Jaguars (tendered at 1 year, $13.75 million)
Grade: B
Robinson isn’t considered an elite blindside pass protector, but the Jaguars had plenty under the cap and needed to keep the edges intact for Trevor Lawrence.
Leonard Williams, DE, Giants (tendered at 1 year, $19.35 million)
Grade: B
The Giants got a big interior pass-rushing season from Williams, the former Jet, and needed him for the foundation of an improving defense. The price may be a little high, however.
Brandon Scherff, G, Washington (tendered at 1 year, $18 million)
Grade: A
Washington needed to keep some offensive line pieces as it tries to upgrade tackle for its next starting QB.
Marcus Maye, S, Jets (tendered at 1 year, $10.6 million)
Grade: C
Maye is about an average player at this point but the Jets showed some desperation here, still feeling the void of Jamal Adams.
Marcus Williams, S, Saints (tendered at 1 year, $10.6 million)
Grade: A
Williams was a big part of the Saints’ secondary — which is now in transition at cornerback — so working the cap to keep a key playmaker was huge.

“HappyNess Is Not A Myth”
Summary: Bucky and Patricia Barnes are preparing for the birth of their first baby. This story follows the joys and pitfalls of pregnancy.
Characters: Bucky Barnes x Patricia Barnes
OFC: Steve, Tony, Nat, Wanda, Sam, Dr. Azalea Mitchell, and Sarah Natalia Barnes
Word Count: 2,889
Warnings: Talk of labor pains.
A/N: Thank you @violentlybarnes for allowing me to participate in your writing challenge. My prompt: “I’m going to die” Congrats on 500+ followers.
A/N 2: I’m aware happiness is misspelled. :D
Childbirth is a blessed event. There’s no greater joy than pushing an 8 pound baby through a small canal. Hours upon hours of stabbing pain, sweating, cursing, and morphing into a crazed lunatic are worth it. The sweet sound of piercing cries of an infant (s) are music to parent’s ears. In the end, you’re rewarded by watching your little one grow up into their own person.
Also, the cherished teenage years; “Dad, can I borrow the car?,” “Mom, I’m having company over, will you make some snacks please?,” and “You’re embarrassing me!”
Bucky and Patricia Barnes, married 2 years, are expecting their first baby! Everyone at the compound are ecstatic. In 8 months, a new “Avenger” will join the team.
The mile-wide smile on Bucky’s face speaks volumes. No longer in the field, he trains new agents, while Patricia’s morning sickness keeps her bedridden sometimes. But never fear, Mr. “I’m here for you always” Barnes to the rescue.
Rubbing circles on her back when she’s kneeling before the porcelain god, keeping saltines, ginger ale, and a wastepaper basket handy. Dr. Azalea Mitchell, the couple’s OB/GYN physician, assured the nervous couple the nausea and vomiting should cease after the first trimester.
Nat and Wanda would stop by and sit with Patricia, when they weren’t on a mission. Bucky wasn’t far away. The training room was four floors down from their apartment, and he was a phone call away.
Tucking her legs on the bed, Wanda held Patricia’s hand. “How do you feel pumpkin?”
“Do you need anything?” Nat asked, fluffing her pillows.
“I love you guys so much. No, I’m fine. As you can see, Bucky took care of me before he left.”
Patricia pulled the covers down a bit.
The trio chatted well into the evening. Patricia only left the bed to use the bathroom, with Nat’s assistance.
Soon after, Wanda and Nat left for dinner. Patricia wished she could go also, but her husband would have a kanipshin.
The bedside clock read 4:30 p.m. Bucky would be home soon. “I’m going bananas. I’ve gotta break free.” Patricia plotted her getaway.
Just as she touched the doorknob, she heard footsteps...Bucky’s footsteps. Scrambling to the sofa, Patricia had a silly grin on her face.
The lock clicked signaling his arrival. “Doll, why are you out of bed?”
Taking a deep breath, Patricia pleaded her case. “James, I’ve been in bed for over a week and I’m going out of my mind! I would love to eat in the common room with everyone else.” Her eyes glossed with unshed tears.
If there’s one thing that ripped Bucky’s heart was his wife crying. Sitting on the sofa beside her, “I’ll make a deal with’ya. Use the wheelchair. If’ya get to feeling sick, you gotta go back to bed. Deal?”
Kissing his cheek, Patricia gushed, “Deal!”
Nat, Wanda, Sam, and Bruce were at the table feasting on spaghetti and tuna casserole, salad, yeast rolls, corn and for dessert blueberry and lemon pie.
Standing at the kitchen island, Tony and Steve were engaged in friendly banter.
Bucky wheeled Patricia around the corner, much to the delight of everyone in the room.
Tony was first to comment. “Well look who it is? Hot Wheels and Heavy Metal.”
Bucky rolled his eyes. “Shut up coke can.”
Steve greeted Patricia with a hug and kiss on the cheek. “Good to see you Patricia. How are you?”
“I’m feeling better. Just going stir crazy in that bed. Made a deal with Bucky, so here I am.”
Patricia greeted with hugs and kisses, engaged in festive conversation. Bucky prepared her plate with small portions, just in case baby Barnes didn’t approve of the menu.
Time moved swiftly. Patricia’s baby bump grew by leaps and bounds. 5 months along, she felt the baby flutter for the first time.
“Bucky!! Come quick!!” Falling over the chair and stubbing his toe, Bucky thought that something was wrong.
“D-doll what’s wrong? Is it the baby?” Panicking, Bucky stumbled in the room.
Giggling, Patricia apologized for scaring him. “Babe, I’m really sorry. Didn’t mean to upset you. The baby’s kicking and I wanted you to feel it.”
Laying his flesh hand on the side of her stomach, little peanut kicked Patricia hard.
Bucky’s eyes were big as dinner plates. “Wow! She’s gonna play soccer. Doll, you’ve made me the happiest man in the world. I dunno what I did to deserve you and our daughter, but Imma love and protect my best girls always.”
Overcome with pride, Bucky’s cerulean eyes filled with tears. “I love ya so much.”
Rubbing his back, Patricia turned his face to her. “Sweetheart, those better be happy tears. James Buchanan Barnes, you deserve all the happiness life has to offer. You’re not the Winter Soldier; you’re my husband and father to our daughter.”
Wiping his eyes, Bucky hiccuped. “M’sorry, This feels like a dream, ya know? Is this real?”
“Yes my love, it’s real and you’re here, with us.” Patricia kissed his eyes, one by one.
Bucky Barnes had been to hell and back more than once. It’s okay if he shed happy tears. After years of hell, time for heaven on earth.
Sonogram
Bucky paced back and forth in the waiting room. Patricia reached out, grabbing his hand. “James, sweetheart come sit down.”
“Can’t Trish, m’anxious. Why is it taking so long?”
“Dr. Mitchell has other patients. Our appointment is at eleven. It’s just 10:30. Buck, sit down.”
Clara, Dr. Mitchell’s nurse, called them to an exam room.
“Mrs. Barnes, please remove your shirt, put on this gown. Dr. Mitchell will be right in.” The congenial nurse left the room.
Bucky assisted Patricia with her clothes, then, she laid on the examination table. “Doll, are ya alright?”
“Yes, kinda nervous.” Patricia reached for her husband’s hand.
Entering the room, Dr. Mitchell smiled at the concerned parents. “Good morning. I’m sure you’re ready to find out if your baby’s a boy or girl. Let’s get started.”
Adjusting the screen, squeezing cold ultrasound gel on the probe, Dr. Mitchell lifted Patricia’s gown. “This is may be a little cold at first touch.”
Placing the probe on her stomach, the image of baby Barnes came into view. Bucky’s cerulean eyes pooled with unshed tears.
Moving the probe over Patricia’s stomach, Dr. Mitchell determined the baby is a girl. “Mr. and Mrs. Barnes, you’re having a girl. I’ll print a picture for you.
Patricia held Bucky’s hand. “James, it’s a girl.”
“Wow. There she is, Sarah Natalia Barnes.”
“Oh sweetie, Nat and Steve will be so pleased. I love her name.”
Dr. MItchell removed the remaining gel with a soft cloth. “You may get dressed, and Clara will show you to my office.”
Holding the black and white image of their daughter, Bucky rubbed his calloused fingers over the paper. “Hey peanut. It’s you daddy. Me and your momma loves ya so much.”
In her office, Dr. Mitchell called in a refill on Patricia’s prenatal vitamins, gave them instructions on having sex this far along in the pregnancy and her diet.
Bucky and his wife nodded, thanked the doctor, and left.
Eyes gleaming Bucky put a plan in motion. “ It’s okay to tell the team we’re having a girl, but keep the name a secret.”
“Gotcha Sarge. Besides, Steve can’t keep a secret for shit.”
Second Trimester Blues
At the 6 month period, Patricia’s hormones played dirty tricks on her; crying, an insatiable appetite for sex (Bucky didn’t complain), weird cravings, and horrific mood swings.
One evening while watching a movie, Y/N asked Bucky if she looked fat . Afraid to answer, he decided to keep quiet.
Well, his silence meant it was true in her eyes.. “I know you think I’m fat and ugly. You’re gonna leave me for a woman with firm breasts and ass.” Stomping from the room, Patricia slammed the bedroom door, locking it.
Dumbfounded, Bucky simply shook his head, talking through the door, “Dollface, open the door. I dunno why you’d say that. I love ya so much. No woman in the world can hold a candle to ya.”
Sniffling and hiccuping, the lock clicked. Bucky’s face fell. Patricia was sitting against the headboard with their wedding picture. “Do you ever regret marrying me?”
Taken aback, Bucky turned towards his distraught wife, taking her hand. “Trish, why would’ya ask me something like that?”
“I’m sorry James. I know you love me and our unborn daughter. My emotions are all over the place and I hate it.”
Wiping his eyes, Bucky explained to Patricia what she and their baby truly meant to him.
“When HYDRA controlled me, I did things that’s still hard to talk about; felt I wasn’t worth of a happy, normal life. Then, here comes this stubborn, feisty, dame. The moment we met, somehow I had to make ya mine. Yeah, we’ve had some rough patches, yet, our love withstands all the crazy shit.”
Rubbing her growing belly, Bucky continued. “Patricia, you loved me back to life and for some strange reason, ya wanted to marry me. Now, we’re ‘bout’ta have a baby girl. So, to answer your question, no I don’t regret marrying ya. Thanks to your undying love for me, I feel like a man and not a monster.”
Bucky calmly stood walking to the door. Turning around, “I’m gonna make us a cup of tea. I love ya so much.”
Reaching out for his hand, “James, please forgive for being a hormonal bitch.”
“S’okay doll, there’s nothing to forgive.” Gently closing the door, Y/N held her pillow, sobbing.
Steve, sitting at the kitchen island reading, noticed Bucky’s glum expression. ‘Hey pal. What’s the matter?
“Stevie, do’ya think I deserve t’be happy?” Bucky’s shoulders slumped.
“What brought this on? Pal, you’ve earned the right to be thrilled ‘bout your wife and baby. Don’t ever second guess that.”
“Guess you’re right. Trish asked me if I regret marrying her, saying I’ll leave her for another woman.”
Steve consoled his gloomy friend. “Trish’s frame of mind is all over the place. One minute she’s laughing, next time, she’s bawling and biting everyone’s head off. Go home and hold your wife, Buck.”
“Thanks a lot. I was gonna make tea, but I need to hold my best girls.” Bucky left the kitchen.
Patricia curled up on the bed, holding Bucky’s pillow.
Removing his clothes, Bucky pulled the geometric pattern comforter back, easing into bed. He scooted close to her body, draping a hand over her stomach.
Inhaling the scent of her shampoo, Bucky entered into peaceful sleep.
Over waffles, eggs, bacon, coffee and orange juice, Trish expressed deep regret about the night before. All’s forgiven. If anything negative plagued gripped her mind, she’d talk to Bucky before things got out of hand.
The Nursery Dilemma/Baby Shower
Anthony Edward Stark, billionaire smartass, hired contractors to build an incredible nursery. Bucky adamantly assured everyone he was capable of assembling baby furniture.
“Listen Father Russia, I’m sure your abilities to assemble and disassemble a weapon are impeccable. Why not let the professionals take over.” Tony quirked an eyebrow.
Unfazed by his comment, Bucky retorted, “I am a professional, damnit. Now, let me get to work.”
Sam snorted, “Shit, Frozen, your baby will be 3 before you’re finished.”
Wanda, Patricia, and Nat chuckled. “Husband dear, I have faith in you. We’ll be in the common room preparing for the baby shower.”
Nat joked, “He’s gonna mess up Trish” Wanda nodded in agreement.
“I know. Our baby girl’s probably going to sleep with us until she’s 5 years old.
Snapping his head around, Bucky narrowed his eyes. “I heard that. Just wait’n see. Daddy Barnes will have everything put together before ya know it.”
Steve groaned, “Tony, keep the contractors on speed dial.”
“Already on it Capsicle.”
After 2 hours and a lot of swearing, Bucky conceded, informing Tony to call the pros. Tony smirked.
Crossing his arms, Bucky inquired about this bet. “So, Rogers betted against me?”
Steve whistled, glancing at the ceiling.
The common room became a pink and white wonderland. Balloons, streamer, a 3 tier cake, and rounding everything out, Pepper hired caterers.
Patricia had a special request: chocolate ice cream, bananas, potato chips, and dark chocolate almond milk.
Clint, Laura and their 3 kids joined in the festivities. Food, games, gifts and laughter were the order of the day.
Bucky and Patricia revealed their daughter’s name.
“First, we wanna thank everyone for coming. Trish and I appreciate all you’ve done for us. We’ve chosen Sarah Natalia Barnes for our ‘peanut’.”
Nat gasped, “Barnes, are you serious?”
“Yeah Nattie. You and I have been through the ringer. It’s only right to bring some sunshine to ya.”
Normally stoic, Nat embraced Bucky and Patricia. “I’m honored.”
Steve couldn’t contain his enthusiasm. “My ma’s smiling in Heaven!”
A huge white box with a pink bow remained on the table. Trish removed the top and gasped. Inside were custom made pajamas and bibs; Iron Man, Captain America, Falcon, Scarlet Witch, Thor, and the Hulk.
Tony had one more surprise. “Guess we saved the best for last.”
Bucky couldn’t believe his eyes: a pink onesie complete with a metal arm and red star. The matching bib inscribed: Daddy’s Little Peanut. Everyone applauded the special gift for Sarah
Trish pulled Pepper into a hug, and Bucky enveloped Tony with his massive arms. “Okay Icicle. You’re welcome!
Bucky and Patricia thanked everyone again for coming. Sam, Steve, and Tony helped with the gifts.
“Sarah is loved, Buck. We’re fortunate to have our extended family. I love you.”
“Yeah she’s spoiled already. Doll, we’re in trouble.”
Sarah Makes Her Debut
Dr. Mitchell informed them, little Sarah had turned, head down. It wouldn’t be long before Bucky and Patricia meet their daughter.
Now that the nursery was completed, furniture built, room decorated, and clothes put away, only thing missing…...Sarah!
Patricia felt discomfort in her abdomen. Chalking it up to indigestion, she huffed and laid down.
Suddenly, a sharp, stabbing pain, accompanied by wetness coursed through her body. Not able to move, Patricia screamed for Bucky.
“BUUUCKY!!! COME QUICK!!!! MY WATER BROKE!!!.” Patricia doubled over in pain.
Scrambling to the bedroom, Bucky speed dialed Steve, who in turn alerted everyone else.
Bringing a stretcher from medical, Patricia was carefully wheeled to Tony’s SUV, along with Bucky, Pepper, Nat and Wanda. A police escort cleared the way to Mt Sinai Hospital.
“OH MY GOSH, I’M GOING TO DIE!!! BUCKY I HATE YOU. THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT!! OWWWW!!!
Bucky smiled, trying to calm his wife. Her contractions were 10 minutes apart. “M’here sweetheart. Shhh, I got’cha.”
Arriving at the hospital, Dr. Mitchell met them at the door. Bucky followed the doctor and nurses to the birthing suite.
After 5 hours of misery, Trish gave birth to 8 lbs. 3 ounces., 19 inches, Sarah Natalia Barnes Bucky cut the umbilical cord amid teary eyes.
Peanut, as she was affectionately called, sported curly brown hair, beautiful blue eyes with long eyelashes, and her mother’s nose.
Beaming with pride, Bucky held his bundle of joy. “Hey, darlin’ m’glad you’re here. Gosh, ya got a heart already. I’ll protect you and your mommy always.”
He placed a gentle kiss to her forehead. Patricia weakly smiled at her husband and daughter. Labor took a lot out of her. “Hey Sarge, can I hold her?”
“Of course doll. She’s a heartbreaker.”
Knocking on the door, Nat stuck her head in. “Are you up for visitors?”
“Sure, come on in and meet your goddaughter.” Patricia cooed as she fed Sarah.
“Nat, would you like to hold her?” Sarah burped.
“Yeah, she’s definitely Bucky’s daughter.” Nat carefully held the little cherub.
Beaming with pride, Nat whispered, “Hey this is your godmother. I love you so much. When you’re older, I’ll teach you how to kill someone using only a spoon.”
Bucky and Patricia groaned. “I have a feeling Sarah will be a lethal weapon by her 5th birthday.”
Another soft knock at the door, Tony peeped from behind the door. “Is it okay if her uncles and aunt come in?”
Bucky sitting in the wood rocking chair, whispered for everyone to keep it down. Patricia and Sarah were asleep.
Tony had to make a wisecrack. “Little Creamsicle’s a cutie. She’s your twin, Frostbite. I hate to admit this. You look good holding your daughter. I’m happy for you and Patricia.”
Steve noted, “Jerk, look at’cha. You’re a daddy now. My goddaughter’s precious. Buck she’s your twin.”
Sam and Wanda took pictures of James Buchanan Barnes grinning from ear-to-ear.
At last, the happiness train pulled into his station, bringing Patricia and Sarah Natalia Barnes into his once shattered life. He was no longer a brainwashed killer. No, Bucky held the title of husband and father. About damn time!!!

NFL power rankings: Saints, Packers new NFC front-runners after Buccaneers, Seahawks plunge for Week 10
Week 9 in the NFL saw more shakeups in the league pecking order. A couple of NFC contenders, New Orleans and Green Bay posted statement victories, while two others, Tampa Bay and Seattle showed all kinds of weakness.
Meanwhile, in the AFC, Kansas City, Baltimore and Buffalo flexed in tough games, with Miami and Las Vegas did more to pump up their wild-card playoff campaigns.
Going into Week 10, here’s how we stack every team from No. 1 through No. 32 in Sporting News’ latest power rankings

NFL power rankings
1. Kansas City Chiefs 8-1 (last week: 1)
The Chiefs are getting a little pass-happy with Patrick Mahomes in the middle of the season but he’s also playing at a crazy high MVP level. They need to get better defensively and against the run to maximize his presence on the field.
2. Pittsburgh Steelers 8-0 (2)
The Steelers escaped from Dallas with a victory when their defense struggled at times and their running game wasn’t reliable. Ben Roethlisbeger, knee injury aside, made the big plays when it counted to save them to their talented wide receivers.
MORE: Steelers ready for ‘everybody’s best punch,’ says Mike Tomlin
3. New Orleans Saints 6-2 (5)
The Saints marched away with a dominant victory in Tampa Bay, sweeping the season series and becoming the clear NFC South and conference favorites. They’ll get a shot at the fading reigning champion 49ers next.
4. Baltimore Ravens 6-2 (6)
The Ravens needed a gritty, old-school defensive win with the passing game not coming through. Lamar Jackson and the running game get plenty of credit for out-slugging the Colts in a critical rebound game.
(Getty Images) https://images.daznservices.com/di/library/sporting_news/9d/65/josh-allen-stefon-diggs-101320-getty-ftr_1k2hm9i7obplv17pzio24x73z7.jpg?t=573463901&w=500&quality=80
5. Buffalo Bills 7-2 (7)
The Bills needed that kind of stellar performance against the Seahawks to feel great about Josh Allen and the offense again. The even more encouraging sign was how many big plays the defense made, too.
6. Green Bay Packers 6-2 (8)
The Packers and Aaron Rodgers took care of the 49ers nemesis. They also should feel good about beating the Saints, even though they lost badly to the Buccaneers. They are right back in the NFC top seed conversation.
7. Seattle Seahawks 6-2 (3)
The Seahawks stumbled with terrible pass defense against the Bills and more critical mistakes from Russell Wilson. Their hot start took advantage of an easy schedule. Now they need to sweat out winning the NFC West first before thinking about anything bigger.
IYER: Why Seahawks are fading fast as NFC title contenders
8. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 6-3 (4)
What was that? The Bucs had their biggest opportunity to show they were the new NFC favorite in their biggest game of the year and the entire team now has made it really hard to win the NFC South. Tom Brady and the defense are best off forgetting the Saints nightmare, hoping for a third matchup down the line.
9. Tennessee Titans 6-2 (11)
Remember the Titans as a factor in the AFC race? They got a much-needed defensive-fueled victory over the Bears for Mike Vrabel to also create some breathing room against the Colts in the South.
10. Miami Dolphins 5-3 (14)
The Dolphins also want a say in the AFC in the end with their defense continuing to make big plays for Brian Flores and their offense finding a different kind of groove with Tua Tagovailoa. They can keep it going with a very favorable schedule over the next month.

11. Arizona Cardinals 5-3 (9)
The Cardinals played a classic young QB duel with the Dolphins with Kyler Murray not having the same field-goal fortunes as Tagovailoa. The defense, which had seemed to turn a corner, was most disappointing.
12. Los Angeles Rams 5-3 (12)
The Rams enjoyed a bye knowing they are doing it differently in the NFC than the other playoffs, leaning mostly on their running game and defense when they’re playing their best. Sean McVay should have some great adjustments in store for the second half.
13. Las Vegas Raiders 5-3 (16)
The Raiders are locked in offensively with Derek Carr with the right balance from Josh Jacobs and the running game. They won’t get much better defensively in 2020, but it’s all about making timely stops for them to keep winning.
MORE: Colts’ Philip Rivers tripped by turf monster while attempting tackle
14. Cleveland Browns 5-3 (17)
The Browns had an eventful end to the bye week with Baker Mayfield landing on the COVID-19 list. Their wild-card chase got a lot harder with the Raiders and the Dolphins winning close games. They must take advantage of three very winnable games ahead.
15. Indianapolis Colts 5-3 (10)
The Colts keep trying to win battles of attrition with their running game and defense, but it’s hard to hide Philip Rivers when he’s not playing well. They need to upgrade at quarterback with a true franchise option in 2021.
(Getty Images) https://images.daznservices.com/di/library/sporting_news/d7/be/nick-foles-100820-getty-ftr_tmlkyxc1ogn21fptiikb3adi3.jpg?t=146040421&w=500&quality=80
16. Chicago Bears 5-4 (13)
The Bears are stuck with Nick Foles with Mitchell Trubisky hurting. They keep making a few mistakes offensively to hold them back and put too much of a burden on their stout defense.
17. San Francisco 49ers 4-5 (15)
The 49ers are a shell of the NFC champions from last season and Kyle Shanahan and Robert Saleh can do only so much with their play-calling. It won’t get any easier with the Saints, Rams and Bills in the next three games.
MORE: Tom Brady at loss after Bucs’ blowout loss to Drew Brees’ Saints
18. Philadelphia Eagles 3-4-1 (18)
The Eagles had a bye to get healthier all around and should be feeling more confident about their NFC East chances with Washington and Dallas losing while they didn’t play. They do get some NFC litmus tests with the Seahawks, Packers, Saints and Cardinals all on the upcoming schedule.
19. Minnesota Vikings 3-5 (23)
The Vikings are creeping back into the NFC wild-card race. Consider four of their losses are to above-.500 times, including the Packers, the Seahawks, the Colts and the Titans. Dalvin Cook and a favorable schedule makes them a team to watch in the second half.

20. Detroit Lions 3-5 (19)
The Lions blew their chance to take second place behind the Packers with another mess of a defensive game against the Vikings. The writing is on the wall for Matt Patricia now.
21. Denver Broncos 3-5 (20)
The Broncos played inspired comeback football with Drew Lock again in Atlanta, but it wasn’t enough despite their passing offense coming to life. Vic Fangio’s defense keeps opening too many holes.
22. Carolina Panthers 3-6 (21)
The Panthers got Christian McCaffrey back and made a lot of great plays to stay in the game against the Chiefs, having the ideal ball-control game plan. But their pass defense didn’t cooperate when it was needed most.
23. Cincinnati Bengals 2-5-1 (22)
The Bengals had a bye to get healthier on the offensive line and also heal running back Joe Mixon. As for quarterback Joe Burrow, he will continue his push for Offensive Rookie of the Year.
24. New England Patriots 2-5 (25)
The Patriots play Monday night with their season on the line against, of all teams, the winless Jets. The Bills and the Dolphins are both positioned to pull away from them.
(Getty Images) https://images.daznservices.com/di/library/sporting_news/db/6c/justin-herbert-101220-getty-ftr_5d1i7d893ar111nh802wu5v6e.jpg?t=504170773&w=500&quality=80
25. Los Angeles Chargers 2-6 (24)
The Chargers lost another close game on the final play. What a surprise. Justin Herbert and Anthony Lynn both deserve better breaks than that.
26. Atlanta Falcons 3-6 (27)
The Falcons have found their way defensively a little more, enough to complement Matt Ryan and the offense, which has found its groove again. Now it’a. a bye to try to keep it up under Raheem Morris in the second half.
27. Houston Texans 2-6 (29)
The Texans’ defense is a major liability and the main reason for their record. Deshaun Watson is doing everything he can to help them win with a short deck.
28. Washington Football Team 2-6 (26)
WFT got swept by the Giants as their defense broke down more than expected after a bye and had to deal with a devastating second QB change from Kyle Allen to Alex Smith. Perhaps Dwayne Haskins deserves one last chance?
29. Dallas Cowboys 2-6 (28)
The Cowboys did their best to find a spark with Garrett Gilbert and it worked for a long time as the entire offense played inspired in a tough matchup. Unfortunately, the defense improved greatly against the run, only to break down against the pass in crunch time.
30. New York Giants 2-7 (30)
The Giants finally finished a close game because of defense and turnover-free offense. Joe Judge needed that one in Washington.
31. Jacksonville Jaguars 1-7 (31)
The Jaguars did their best to compete at a high level with Jake Luton, who really didn’t look much different operating the offense than Gardner Minshew did. Unfortunately, he can do nothing to help a shell of a defense.
32. New York Jets 0-8 (32)
The Jets play on Monday night, which means they also will lose on a different day of the week for a change under Adam Gase.

Select L.A. County Races - November 2018
Select L.A. County Races
Broadly speaking: vote for the Democrat. I am not going to give super detailed explanations for a lot of races unless they are warranted. Where they are, I have footnoted them. I live in the East Valley so a lot of what I looked at was Valley related. I also looked into Santa Monica because Measure SM is a big deal.
State Board of Equalization 3: Tony Vazquez
In 2017, the State Board of Equalization was largely stripped of its powers and duties and gutted from 4800 staffer to 400 staffers. Still, it remains a constitutionally mandated agency that administers Property Taxes, Alcoholic Beverage Taxes, and Taxes on Insurers programs. The point of the board is to ensure that taxes are assessed fairly statewide. Yeah, it’s weird. Anyway, the GOP candidate in the race has used his platform to attack the SB60 Gas Tax (more on this later). Forget that. Tony Vazquez is a former Santa Monica mayor and while his platform for the BOE is thin, it’s better than actively destructive.
Los Angeles County Sheriff: Alex Villanueva
I’m not thrilled about either candidate in this race, to be honest. Both have ties to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD) but both pitch themselves as reform candidates who will address years of endemic abuse and corruption within LASD. Neither seems to be up to the job. I’ve heard some people say that Jim McDonnell, the acting sheriff, should be given a chance to put his mark on the department. I have also watched as rank and file have swung to Alex Villanueva as McDonnell has tried to enact reforms. McDonnell has ties to the former sheriff, Lee Baca, who was convicted of obstructing an investigation into jail abuses by the LASD. McDonnell has endorsements from politicians but Villanueva has the support of the local party clubs. It’s really a coin toss for me, but since I’m picking, I guess I’ll go with Villanueva - he’s the slightly more outside candidate for now, and I’ll keep an eye on this for 2022.
Los Angeles County Assessor: Jeffrey Prang
Jeff Prang is endorsed by Kamala Harris and is the incumbent assessor. His opponent is literally listed with the name John “Lower Taxes” Loew on the ballot and couldn’t even get a website together for this election. This is a pretty easy call.
Justice, California State Court of Appeal; Second District
Electing judges is dumb but since we do it, here’s some thoughts. Look: these are all qualified and smart jurists. I base my endorsements here on a mix of reviewing various endorsements with a critical eye to judges who score too high on conservative groups’ questionnaires about judicial philosophy. The L.A. Times endorses “yes” on all these candidates as a show of judicial independence, but I don’t hang with that. Judges make political choices and while I believe we shouldn’t have the power to vote on them, if we do then we might as well use that power to vote for judges who reflect our Democratic values. Certainly the GOP votes for judges that will enact their visions.

Los Angeles Superior Court
Personally, I feel too often we see prosecutors elevated to judgeships, it’s like a pipeline from the DA to the Superior Court. To me, it’s best that a candidate have some sort of judicial experience before they get the post - as a Judge Pro Tem or as a mediator of some kind. All respect to my prosecutor friends out there, but being a judge is a different job. That said, if nobody in the race has that experience - a not uncommon event - it’s worth looking at what else they bring to the table.
Los Angeles Superior Court, Office 4: Veronica Sauceda
Los Angeles Superior Court, Office 16: Patricia “Patti” Hunter This is the one judicial race that I really want to highlight. Hunter’s opponent - Sydne Michel - has a lot of ties to the gun industry. Her kid and her dog are both named after guns, her husband is an NRA lawyer, and the pro-gun website calguns.net made it clear that voting for her was important to advancing their interests. Vote for Hunter here folks. We don’t need pro-gun voices packing our courts.
Los Angeles Superior Court, Office 60: Holly L. Hancock I like that Ms. Hancock is a Public Defender - we don’t see enough PDs become judges.
Los Angeles Superior Court, Office 113: Michael Ribons
California State Senate
SD 18 – Bob Hertzberg Sen. Hertzberg was officially reprimanded by the California State Senate in March of 2018 for his habit of hugging colleagues and constituents. In accepting the reprimand, Hertzberg stated ”I understand that I cannot control how a hug is received, and that not everyone has the ability to speak up about unwelcome behavior. It is my responsibility to be mindful of this, and to respect the Rules Committee's request to not initiate hugs." SD 20 – Connie Leyva SD 22 – Michael Eng SD 24 – Maria Elena Durazo SD 26 – Ben Allen SD 30 – Holly Mitchell SD 32 – Bob J. Archuleta SD 34 – Tom Umberg

U.S. House of Representatives
CD 23 – Tatiana Matta CD 25 – Katie Hill CD 26 – Julia Brownley CD 27 – Judy Chu CD 28 – Adam Schiff CD 29 – Tony Cardenas Post-2016 I have often wondered what it would take for me to vote to give a seat up to a Republican - is there a figure as odious as Trump in the Democratic party? This is the race that currently comes closest for me. Tony Cardenas - my rep - has been accused of rape and is facing a civil suit from a Jane Doe; he has denied the charge and asked for a House ethics investigation. I’m begrudgingly going to vote for him, but I am hoping he either a) clears his name in the next year, b) steps aside, or c) is faces a legitimate primary because the Dems have to do better than having an accused rapist on the ballot in 2018. CD 30 – Brad Sherman CD 32 – Grace Napolitano CD 33 – Ted Lieu CD 34 – Jimmy Gomez Kenneth Meija is a longshot Green candidate in this district - I don’t like his take on SB1 and his call to repeal it, but I would imagine a lot of people I respect might disagree with me on him overall. CD 35 – Norma Torres CD 37 – Karen Bass CD 38 – Linda Sanchez CD 39 – Gil Cisneros CD 40 – Lucille Roybal-Allard CD 43 – Maxine Waters CD 44 – Nanette Barragán CD 47 – Alan Lowenthal
County Measure W: Yes
This is a 2.5¢ per acre parcel tax on impermeable land (i.e. the parts of land that doesn’t absorb water) to raise funds that will be used to fund projects to capture stormwater, clean it, and percolate it into underwater aquifiers. This money would double the amount that the County Flood District (if you’re in L.A. county you’re almost definitely in it, unless you’re north of Palmdale) captures and help us reduce dependence on water from outside sources.
L.A. City Charter Amendment B (Public Bank): Emphatically Yes
This charter amendment would give the city the power to establish a public bank. A public bank is a government owned bank that holds the city’s deposits and can be used to make loans to projects the city supports. North Dakota has a public bank that is extremely profitable and which funds public works projects throughout the state. Additionally, debt service payments and institutional fees can be reduced when the city has its own bank, saving us all in the long run. To be clear: Amendment B would not actually establish a bank - this would take legislative action and involve a lot of detailed analysis and rulemaking. This is just the first step in a long process, but a necessary one.
L.A. City Charter Amendment E (Realign City Election Dates): Yes
This amendment would realign the city’s primary dates to match state primary dates, lowering costs and reducing voter fatigue. We should do this.
LAUSD Charter Amendment EE (Realign LAUSD Election Dates): Yes
This amendment would realign LAUSD’s primary dates to match state primary dates, lowering costs and reducing voter fatigue. We should also do this.
Burbank Measure P (Sales Tax for General Fund): Yes
The city will experience a $20M revenue shortfall, this is a 0.75¢ sales tax to close that gap. Yes, sales taxes are regressive, but until we address Prop 13 its one of the few tools cities have to close budget gaps in California. Vote yes or get ready to see local services cut.
Burbank Measure QS (Parcel Tax for Schools): Yes
A parcel tax differs from a property tax in that the parcel tax is applied based on a characteristic of the land while a property tax is based on its value. Here, Burbank proposes to tax each piece of improved land at 10¢ per square foot to raise $9M for schools. On a side note, this will require 2/3 of voters to confirm.
Glendale Measure S (Sales Tax for General Fund): Yes
Much like Burbank, Glendale proposes a 0.75¢ sales tax to generate about $30M annually. Vote yes or get ready to see local services cut.
Santa Monica Measure SM (Require Supermajority Council Approval for Floor Area Ratio and Height Limit Changes): NO NO NO NO
This Charter amendment would require 5 of 7 council members to approve any changes to the downtown community plan for ten years. Folks, this is slow growth nonsense. The city charter already requires a majority vote to approve any changes, requiring a supermajority simply makes it more difficult to address any projects that might be slightly out of compliance. Don’t make it harder to build things.
Santa Monica Measure TL (Term Limits for Council Members): No
This would limit any council member to three terms, whether consecutive or not. I just fundamentally disagree with the idea of term limits, and encourage you to vote no on this.

Week 3 Rankings
QB Notes: Heading into the highest-totaled sport of the season to this point (56), Russell Wilson has 9 touchdowns and 11 incompletions. He’s finishing 82.5 p.c of his passes and averaging 9.7 yards per try. If he managed 5 touchdowns on the Patriots, 2018 Patrick Mahomes solely is aware of what he’ll do to the Cowboys. … As Davis Mattek put it on Twitter, “the Ravens being this good is a catastrophe for Lamar Jackson’s fantasy worth.” Fortunately for Jackson managers, the Ravens lastly have an opponent extra their very own measurement for Week 3. Which means Jackson would possibly truly should throw within the second half. Permitting 8.7 yards per try by two video games, the Chiefs are headed to Baltimore for a Monday evening tilt with a 54 over/underneath. … Opposing Jackson might be Patrick Mahomes, who wakened from his sleepy begin within the second half in opposition to the Chargers, heating up his reference to Tyreek Hill whereas repeatedly burning the Bolts with scrambles. Hopefully the cobwebs have been knocked off. … Predictably ascending his second yr within the league, Kyler Murray enters Week Three because the QB4 by common factors. His reward is a Lions Protection that hardly even bothers to take the sector.
The most important fantasy effort by any quarterback to this point this season was Dak Prescott’s 46.Three factors in opposition to the Falcons. The Seahawks are permitting 415 passing yards per sport by two contests. That isn’t a typo. … Main in complete fantasy factors is Josh Allen. How is he doing it? By blowing away his effectivity numbers from 2018-19. As Mike Clay factors out, Allen’s YPA has gone from 6.5 and 6.7 to 9.0. For completion share, it’s 53 and 59 to 70. For “off-target throw share” it’s 23 and 22 to 16. In fact, this got here in opposition to arguably the 2 worst groups within the league, the Jets and Dolphins. The Rams, who made life depressing for Dak Prescott and Carson Wentz, are a a lot stiffer check. … Cam Newton notched the second most rush makes an attempt of his profession in Week 1 and adopted it up together with his third most passing yards in Week 2, the place he discovered slot man Julian Edelman for a career-high 179 yards. Newton has 4 dashing scores in two video games. It’s not truthful how straightforward the Patriots make issues look. Drew Brees may not realize it, however Newton has a smash spot within the Raiders.
Matt Ryan has picked up the place he left off earlier than final season’s high-ankle sprain, supporting three receivers as he lights up the stat sheet. The Bears are providing stiffer aerial resistance than Seattle and Dallas, however Ryan’s ground is simply too excessive to fade any additional. … Matthew Stafford is getting Kenny Golladay (hamstring) again simply in time to duel with Kyler Murray within the desert. Stafford remained aggressive even with out his alpha, putting high 10 in each common supposed air yards and Subsequent Gen Stats’ “aggressiveness” metric amongst quarterbacks to begin each Weeks 1 and a pair of. The over/underneath in Phoenix is sitting at an astronomical 55. … Ben Roethlisberger was not at his greatest in Weeks 1 and a pair of and was nonetheless rattling good. As his arm rounds into type, it’s discovering a brand new alpha possibility in Diontae Johnson alongside JuJu Smith-Schuster. He simply wants the Texans to maintain a sport aggressive for as soon as. … The “warpath” is the one phrase for the place Aaron Rodgers has been. By means of two weeks, his common supposed air yards is at 9.6, good for second amongst QBs to play each weeks to completion. The Saints would appear to be ripe for the choosing after making Derek Carr appear like Peyton Manning, however they’re heading again to the Superdome, the place Rodgers might be lacking Davante Adams (hamstring). Adams’ well being will decide Rodgers’ last rank.
Merely the QB15 in common factors by two begins, Deshaun Watson has yet one more brutal matchup within the Steelers. The schedule eases up in Weeks Four and 5 with the Vikings and Jaguars, respectively. … It was one other inconclusive effort for Tom Brady in a great spot in opposition to the Panthers. For Week 3, he’ll lastly have Chris Godwin and Mike Evans at full well being on the identical time. Brady wants to indicate extra vs. the Broncos’ short-handed protection. … The one non-Russell Wilson quarterback to throw for no less than three touchdowns in Weeks 1 and a pair of? Gardner Minshew, who now will get a Dolphins Protection that might be lacking Byron Jones (groin). It’s arduous to not view this rating as a gimmick, however the Dolphins are allowing an inconceivable 10.6 yards per try after dates with Cam Newton and Josh Allen. … Using excessive off play-action and spreading the ball round as a lot as any quarterback, Jared Goff will get a tricky Week Three highway check within the Payments. If he might be tempting to begin considering “QB1” if Goff aces this task, however the Rams’ run-heavy methods may curb his upside.
It was 2019 another time for Ryan Tannehill in Week 2, as he generated 4 touchdowns on solely 24 makes an attempt vs. the Jaguars. The pathetic Vikings are one other smash alternative for Week 3, although the Titans may find yourself following the Colts’ blueprint and making an attempt 40 rushes. … Carson Wentz has been straight up dangerous by two weeks. The Bengals, who simply evacuated Baker Mayfield from Dunkirk, are hoping they’ve the antidote for that. … Drew Brees’ arm power, which was already noticeably diminished in 2019, is noticeably diminished on 2019. The brief arms made it straightforward to overlook the truth that he nonetheless generated 312 yards and averaged 8.2 yards per try in Las Vegas, however no Michael Thomas goes to make it tough to wager on Brees’ more and more restricted upside. … Joe Burrow truly leads the league in “anticipated fantasy factors.” That may occur when you might have 97 makes an attempt by two video games. My QB1 optimism can be larger if not for the Bengals’ line. … I can’t imagine this, however the Falcons’ essentially-nonexistent move protection retains Mitchell Trubisky QB2 related. … Philip Rivers might be free to cover behind the Colts’ dashing assault for an additional week vs. the laughingstock Jets. … Derek Carr by no means provides ceiling, however his ground is wanting reputable. … I’m a Justin Herbert skeptic, however you needed to come away impressed in case you watched Sunday’s spot begin. The Panthers are the matchup.
Do not forget, for the most recent on every part NFL, take a look at Rotoworld’s Participant Information, or observe @Rotoworld_FB or @RotoPat on Twitter.
Week Three Working Backs
RB Notes: There will not be going to be too many video games the place Ezekiel Elliott will get vultured thrice by Dak Prescott. Zeke has a stunning setup in a assured shootout with the Seahawks. … It’s been a irritating two weeks for Derrick Henry, however the Titans’ dedication is unsurprisingly by the roof. Henry is first in carries (56) and second in dashing yards (200). Now he will get a Vikings Protection that might be drained after getting run on 40 instances in Week 2 and is undermanned after shedding Anthony Barr. … Alvin Kamara was the largest beneficiary within the Saints’ Michael Thomas-less offense, turning a team-high 9 targets into 9/95 whereas supplying 13/79/2 on the bottom. His outlook is enhanced as a three-point residence favourite in a sport with a 52.5 over/underneath. … The Colts put their offense on Jonathan Taylor’s again in opposition to the Vikings. There may be each purpose to imagine they’ll accomplish that once more vs. the scarily-bad Jets. … Refusing to regress, Aaron Jones leads the league in dashing and yards per carry amongst working backs whereas discovering the tip zone 4 instances in two video games. Even for powerful matchups like this week’s with the Saints, his case now not must be made.
Getting back from a soft-tissue harm behind an offensive line lacking each guards vs. a tricky protection, Miles Sanders was a lot crisper than I used to be anticipating in Week 2. He has a mouthwatering matchup vs. a Bengals run D that simply obtained detonated for 35/215/Three by Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt. … Josh Jacobs’ 52 carries are second solely to Derrick Henry. That might be put to the check in a contest the place the Raiders are working as six-point highway ‘canines. It additionally doesn’t take a rocket scientist to infer that grasp game-planner Invoice Belichick might be particularly keyed in on Jacobs and Darren Waller. … Kareem Hunt’s 29 explosive touches have been an actual downside for Nick Chubb, although he nonetheless cashed in his superb Week 2 matchup. The Washington Soccer Workforce is a a lot stiffer problem up entrance. Chubb managers can hold their hat on the Browns being landing residence favorites. Something underneath 15 carries can be beautiful, whereas 20-plus is firmly in play. … Completely destroyed on the bottom by the primary two weeks, the Panthers might be rolling out the pink carpet for Austin Ekeler, whose targets elevated from one to 4 with Justin Herbert underneath heart.
Off to a sluggish begin, Kenyan Drake has a get-right spot in a Lions “run protection” permitting 204 yards per sport and 6.5 yards per carry. Matt Patricia is a joke. … Sabotaged by the Vikings’ off-the-rails passing assault in Weeks 1 and a pair of, Dalvin Prepare dinner now finds himself as a 2.5-point residence underdog vs. the Titans. Coach Mike Vrabel’s protection has no less than been mushy in opposition to the run, coughing up over 5.Zero yards per carry regardless of dealing with a pair of unimposing backfields. … No matter they injected into James Conner’s ankle did the trick. The Texans are welcoming any and all comers on the bottom. … The Ravens got here out of matchups with David Johnson and Nick Chubb allowing the fewest working again fantasy factors, placing Clyde Edwards-Helaire on the RB1/2 borderline for Week 3. … Although Joe Mixon has been ceding a variety of passing downs to Giovani Bernard, his workload has largely been effective. It’s his offensive line that is still the largest concern. Recreation circulation may go south in a rush in Philly. … The Cowboys haven’t been fairly as flammable on the bottom as by the air, whereas Chris Carson is shedding just a few too many snaps to Carlos Hyde and Travis Homer to power his method into the RB1 combine for this shootout.
As anticipated, Todd Gurley is wanting like a textbook workload-based RB2. … It’s now not doable to depart James Robinson out of the RB2 ranks, particularly in opposition to a predictably mushy Dolphins run protection surrendering over 5.Zero yards per carry within the early going. … Mike Davis seems poised to slip in because the Panthers’ 1-for-1 alternative for Christian McCaffrey. It’s a disgrace it’s for such a tough matchup within the Chargers, however at the same time as a 6.5-point highway ‘canine, Davis is all however assured to achieve 15 touches. … There might be no 1-for-1 alternative for Saquon Barkley in New York, solely Week Three chaos. Free agent addition Devonta Freeman is the heavy favourite to steer the G-Males’s post-Barkley committee, however he’s uncertain to be as much as conditioning/playbook velocity vs. the 49ers. Dion Lewis is an uninspiring FLEX, with Wayne Gallman roughly off the radar. Freeman is a hail mary FLEX. … Good: Melvin Gordon has the Broncos’ backfield to himself. Dangerous: With the Broncos lacking Drew Lock and Courtland Sutton, a Bucs protection allowing simply 2.9 yards per carry by dates with Alvin Kamara and Christian McCaffrey might be free to load up the field.
Leonard Fournette has dispatched Ronald Jones with excessive prejudice. … With Cam Akers (ribs) uncertain and Malcolm Brown (damaged finger) extremely questionable, Darrell Henderson is wanting like a plug-and-play RB2 for a tricky date with the Payments. … Antonio Gibson has been rising to the event in Washington’s backfield, impressing the teaching employees. Week 1 nuisance Peyton Barber obtained all of 1 Week 2 contact. … Out-touching Zack Moss 26-20, Devin Singletary’s snap share is 57 to the rookie’s 45. Moss can be battling a toe difficulty. …. 15 carries are all however assured for Bolts 1B again Joshua Kelley vs. the Panthers’ horrendous run protection. … The 49ers have entrusted Jerick McKinnon with solely 9 touches by two weeks. That quantity ought to no less than double with Raheem Mostert (knee) and Tevin Coleman (knee) on the shelf, however Jeff Wilson figures to take in many of the work on early downs because the Niners keep away from forcing the problem with their fragile third-down again. … It’s regarding that Mark Ingram has not piled up extra work throughout back-to-back blowouts. Coach John Harbaugh appears to be following by on his pledge of a full-blown committee. Ingram does have an enhanced Week Three scoring outlook in a probable shootout vs. the Chiefs’ subpar run D. … Myles Gaskin has reached seven carries and 4 catches in 2-of-2 video games. If you happen to should begin a Dolphins again, that is the one.
Week Three Receivers
WR Notes: Devouring targets as a weaponized Julian Edelman for Kyler Murray, DeAndre Hopkins has a golden spot vs. a Lions’ protection that solely exists in response to NASA calculations. It has by no means been noticed by the bare eye. … Tyreek Hill lastly snapped his common season droop in Los Angeles, scoring a diving 54-yard landing vs. the Chargers. The Ravens are the hardest of matchups, however there may be not a protection within the league that has a solution for Hill’s deep sport. … Davante Adams (hamstring) seems on the mistaken aspect of questionable for the Packers’ notoriously conservative medical employees. … The Seahawks have allowed 50 receptions for 731 yards and two touchdowns to receivers by two video games. That isn’t a misprint. I needed to double examine. Amari Cooper, in the meantime, has gone no less than 6/80 on 9 targets every day out. Behind Cooper, each Michael Gallup and CeeDee Lamb are within the WR2 combine. … Opposing the Cowboys’ triplets might be DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, who examine in because the WRs seven and 16, respectively, by common factors in half-PPR leagues. The Cowboys’ move protection has supplied barely extra resistance than Seattle’s however is clearly a unit to assault with a full power in a sport with a 56 over/underneath. That’s rarefied NFL air.
Are you pointing and laughing as a result of I nonetheless have Julio Jones ranked forward of Calvin Ridley? That’s completely truthful. Sooner or later, these conditions — an alpha wideout’s over-the-top defensive consideration liberating up layups for his teammates — are inclined to appropriate themselves, however Ridley now has as many scores over his previous 31 video games (21) as Jones does in his previous 60. Maybe Julio’s pins are endlessly doomed to be knocked down by another person. … Now we have but to see a wholesome Mike Evans and Chris Godwin take the sector on the identical time for Tom Brady. Godwin higher suits Brady’s historic M.O., however Brady had little bother liberating Evans for a 100-yard sport after coach Bruce Arians virtually ordered one. I’ll give Godwin every week to knock the rust off. … Had been it not for the Seahawks, the Falcons can be permitting 78 extra passing yards per sport than every other crew. Mitchell Trubisky is just not Russell Wilson or Dak Prescott, however there will not be any scary monsters on the opposite aspect of Allen Robinson’s Week Three door. … 84 of Terry McLaurin’s 125 Week 2 yards got here after the catch. The prophecy is coming true.
We all know Adam Thielen has goal carte blanche on this offense, however Week 2 vividly illustrated the risks of relying of wideouts in dangerous offenses. There might be peaks, and there might be valleys. … D.J. Moore predictably bounced again from his down Week 1. Much less predictably, Robby Anderson didn’t come again all the way down to earth, as soon as once more having a 100-yard day. If Anderson stays at 8-10 targets per sport, there isn’t a method it doesn’t ding Moore’s weekly WR1 standing with Teddy Bridgewater at quarterback. As for Anderson, he has our WR3 consideration, even in a bottom-basement matchup with the Chargers. … The Ravens didn’t get a aggressive sport in Week 2, so Marquise Brown didn’t get his targets. The Chiefs are a Monday evening eruption spot. … Stefon Diggs is tied for the league lead in yards (239). Even heading into a tricky matchup with Jalen Ramsey, I’ve to place some respect on the person’s identify. … Is JuJu Smith-Schuster nonetheless the Steelers’ No. 1 receiver? Diontae Johnson leads Pittsburgh in targets, catches, receiving yards and air yards. JuJu does have the benefit in routes run and touchdowns. The Texans are a splendid matchup for each.
Kenny Golladay (hamstring) is nearing his 2020 debut. Observe reviews will decide his last rankings resting place. Patrick Peterson is now not a matchup to concern. … Will Fuller, what are you able to even say? Even in a tricky matchup, you continue to should belief in his week-winning capacity. … Odell Beckham has by no means had momentum as a Brown. The Washington Soccer Workforce will do its greatest to lastly present it. … I want to get Keenan Allen larger in such a pristine matchup, nevertheless it’s arduous to wager on his upside over that of the gamers forward of him. … That was actually completely different, Julian Edelman. The Patriots are going full wild man on offense. Regardless of what Drew Brees would have you ever imagine, the Raiders are exploitable deep. … Particularly heading into a tricky matchup with the Payments, I mainly really feel like I would like a minute with Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp. With Jared Goff spreading the ball round greater than ever, Woods is averaging 6.5 targets, Kupp 5.5. … T.Y. Hilton is one other participant I’m urgent pause on. Sure, the matchup is wonderful, nevertheless it’s tough to check the Colts making an attempt fewer than 35 rushes. A drop machine to this point — together with a 44-yard landing vs. the Vikings — Hilton at present checks in as Professional Soccer Focus’ No. 80 receiver.
One spot forward of Hilton is A.J. Inexperienced, who regarded like one of many worst beginning receivers within the league final week. Behind on conditioning, it’s doable Inexperienced was simply out of types after an early huge fall had him in ache. Darius Slay received’t make life simpler this weekend. … D.J. Chark has solely seven targets by two video games. That fever will break, however the Jaguars’ targets rotation is larger than anticipated. With Chark battling a chest harm forward of TNF, I’m hitting pause on his WR2 rank as I wait on extra info. … With Sterling Shepard (toe) again on the shelf, Darius Slayton will get a WR3 mulligan vs. the Richard Sherman-less (amongst many others) 49ers. … With Jalen Reagor (thumb) out indefinitely, the time for DeSean Jackson to have a 10-target sport is now. Week Three opponent William Jackson III is able to creating slightly havoc. … N’Keal Harry’s 12 Week 2 targets are actually price taking discover of. …The WR4 ranks are large enough for the 2 of Jerry Jeudy and Ok.J. Hamler, however the Bucs are a tough matchup for fill-in QB Jeff Driskel. … It seems there may be extra life in Tre’Quan Smith’s bat than Emmanuel Sanders’.
Week Three Tight Ends
TE Notes: Lopsided scores have restricted Mark Andrews to 9 targets by two video games. That modifications in opposition to Travis Kelce and the Chiefs this Monday. … George Kittle (knee) seems unlikely to return for Week Three over considerations with MetLife Stadium’s atrocious turf. Jordan Reed stays a plug-and-play TE2 coming off final week’s eight-target, two-score outburst. … Darren Waller’s 24 targets are 4 greater than every other tight finish. It’s price noting that he’s solely averaging 8.2 yards per catch. He has additionally caught the eye of Week Three opponent Invoice Belichick, who mentioned it’s “been a very long time since we’ve seen a man like this.” You possibly can guess which Raider might be a degree of emphasis for BB’s protection. … Jared Prepare dinner managed a landing in his quiet Week 2. Regardless of his down evening in Las Vegas, Prepare dinner stays a very good wager to hog targets for the Saints’ Michael Thomas-less offense in a Packers tilt with a 52.5 over/underneath. … Hunter Henry has gone no less than 5/70 on eight targets in every of his first two video games regardless of enjoying with completely different quarterbacks. The Panthers’ protection is mushy up the seam (in addition to in all places).
It has not been fairly for Zach Ertz, who has been out-produced by Dallas Goedert whereas his youthful teammate attracts a better goal share. There may be nonetheless an opportunity that is early-season statistical noise, nevertheless it’s a continuation of a development that started within the second half of 2019. The one purpose Ertz isn’t getting light farther for Week Three is an A+ matchup with the Bengals. His total workload (14 targets) additionally stays sturdy for a decent finish. … As for Goedert, he’s a clear-cut top-10 possibility in an offense that simply came upon it has misplaced Jalen Reagor (thumb) till no less than Week 10. … The quantity hasn’t fairly been there for Tyler Higbee within the Rams’ deep offense, however Gerald Everett has not been a priority. Enjoying at lower than 100 p.c, Everett has two complete targets. … The quantity has been there for Evan Engram. It received’t be going wherever in an offense out of the blue much more reliant on the move. … Coming off a profession effort and enjoying 79 p.c of his snaps within the slot, Mike Gesicki has a dream matchup in a Jags protection that badly misplaced the battle for the seam in Week 2 vs. Jonnu Smith.
T.J. Hockenson has posted no less than 56 yards in back-to-back video games. Now it’s a flow-chart week vs. the Cardinals’ ever-leaky tight finish protection. … Jonnu Smith was a Week 2 monster. With A.J. Brown (knee) nonetheless sidelined, Smith will get extra alternatives vs. the Vikings’ out of the blue Anthony Barr-less protection. … Week 2 was extra prefer it for Hayden Hurst, however the Falcons have their first powerful matchup of the yr within the Bears. Hurst has additionally been out-targeted each weeks by No. Three receiver Russell Gage. If that continues, will probably be a tricky method to make a TE1 dwelling. … Noah Fant appears to be like like a rattling beast and might be desperately wanted in Courtland Sutton’s absence. The Bucs are merely a horrible Week Three matchup. … Logan Thomas is averaging a working back-esque 7.9 yards per catch, however solely Kelce and Waller have extra targets amongst tight ends. … I don’t assume I overestimated how badly the Jets want Chris Herndon, however I apparently didn’t account sufficient for a way actually terrible Gang Inexperienced is. … Mo Alie-Cox could be streamed one other week vs. the Jets. … Dalton Schultz’s Week 2 quantity is price a flier in one of many league’s highest-flying offenses. Drew Pattern’s Week 2 quantity is price a flier in an offense whose safety points will proceed to power the ball out rapidly.

9 winners from Week 8 of the NFL season
Young wideouts balled out ... with a little help from trick plays.
You know who the losers of Week 9 were? Sure, the Bengals, the Broncos’ coaches, and anyone who wasted a prime fantasy football waiver wire spot on Detroit backup running back Ty Johnson (38 total yards). But mostly it was all of us, because we were deprived of a Patrick Mahomes-Aaron Rodgers showdown.
Mahomes missed his Sunday Night Football date with Green Bay thanks to a dislocated kneecap that threatens to keep him from the field until Week 10. Rodgers, fortunately, made sure the fans at Arrowhead Stadium wouldn’t go home without seeing at least one “how on earth?” play:
Unreal.@AaronRodgers12 magic on SNF! #GBvsKC | #GoPackGo pic.twitter.com/OzFFykBX0A
— Green Bay Packers (@packers) October 28, 2019
Somehow Rodgers wasn’t throwing that ball away, and it gave Green Bay a late lead in a back-and-forth battle with backup quarterback Matt Moore, who was surprisingly game. The Packers’ QB threw for 305 yards and three touchdowns in a 31-24 win, while Moore threw for 267 yards and two scores.
Neither was the king of Week 8, though. That title belonged to dominant wide receivers and defensive-shattering trick plays.
But that doesn’t include:
Not considered: Eddy Pineiro, who is a very Bears kicker after all
Chicago had a, uh, bold strategy late in its comeback effort against the Chargers Sunday afternoon. After a Mitchell Trubisky scramble put the ball at the LA’s 21-yard line, the Bears eschewed a shot at the end zone with 43 seconds left in a 17-16 game in order to ... take a knee and settle for a field goal instead.
That took the ball out of Trubisky’s hands and sent a rushing offense that had broken free for 162 yards to the sideline. That set up Pineiro, the hero of a Week 2 victory over the Broncos, for what could have been the second game-winning kick of his young career. He’d gone 2-of-2 with his 50+ yard kicks to start the season, and a 41-yard attempt was well within his range.
But as well as he’d kicked in Weeks 1-7, settling for a long-ish Pineiro field goal was still a big risk. He’d doinked a kick off the upright on a 33-yard attempt in the first quarter, and his three successful field goals Sunday all came from 25 yards or closer.
This all created a perfect and familiar storm for Bears fans:

— Christian D'Andrea (@TrainIsland) October 27, 2019
Chicago lost despite gaining 157 more yards than the Chargers and possessing the ball for 16 more minutes than LA. It’s almost an accomplishment to lose that way.
Now on to ...
Week 8’s real winners:
9. The Browns, who lost pathetically but at least tried something new
The less said about Cleveland’s “three turnovers in three plays” offense the better, but there was a little cause for optimism outside of Nick Chubb’s 131-yard performance Sunday. Trailing by 14 late in the fourth quarter following a field goal, the Browns swapped out placekicker Austin Seibert for punter Jamie Gillan for the ensuing kickoff.
The Scot uncorked a well-placed dropkick that skidded toward the sideline and was inches away from being only the second onside kick recovered by the kicking team in 2019:
the Browns used punter Jamie Gillan to break out the onside dropkick and it almost (almost!) worked pic.twitter.com/AO9YtJPC9L
— Christian D'Andrea (@TrainIsland) October 27, 2019
It didn’t work, but it came close. And that’s a big deal, because the onside kick in its current state is broken. Gillan’s dropkick was an improvement over Justin Tucker’s poorly executed attempt back in September, and it could help bring a low-key revolution in the onside game as the league scrambles to find a way to fix an otherwise hopeless situation.
8. The NFL’s pass interference review rule, which actually worked on Sunday
The league made pass interference calls and no-calls reviewable in 2019 following last season’s debacle at the end of the Rams-Saints NFC Championship Game. While it’s given coaches plenty of opportunities to test their fortunes against back judges across the NFL, it’s led to little actual change. From Weeks 3-7, only one pass interference challenge resulted in the call on the field being changed.
But Sunday, late in a close game between the Colts and Broncos, that process worked to perfection. T.Y. Hilton’s third-and-5 crossing route turned into an incomplete pass after defensive back Coty Sensabaugh held his hand (literally) through the last half of his route.
no flag pic.twitter.com/srrvuax8ET
— Christian D'Andrea (@TrainIsland) October 27, 2019
Colts head coach Frank Reich challenged the no-call and, in a relative rarity, the call was reversed. Indianapolis didn’t do anything with its new set of downs — it punted a few plays later before eventually rallying to a 15-13 win — but it’s good to see something useful came from this recent rash of rule changes.
7. Miles Sanders, who got his first career rushing touchdown against one of the league’s top defenses
Sanders had seen his role in the Eagles’ run offense diminish over the past few weeks. After starting off his rookie year with 10+ carries in his first four games, he’d gotten the ball only 18 times (for 42 yards) in his last three appearances.
That left the former Penn State star to plead his case for more responsibility against Buffalo’s top-10 rushing defense. He was pretty convincing:
Some serious MILES per hour. Miles Sanders goes 65 yards for his first career rushing TD! #PHIvsBUF @BoobieMilesXXIV : FOX : NFL app // Yahoo Sports app Watch free on mobile: https://t.co/a16R5wPShJ pic.twitter.com/skH2JQAp3A
— NFL (@NFL) October 27, 2019
Unfortunately for Sanders, he couldn’t keep up this furious pace. He left the game in the third quarter with a shoulder injury, limiting his output to 118 total yards and a touchdown on six touches — three catches, three carries. Even so, he joined some lofty peers after gaining 250 rushing yards and 250 receiving yards in his first eight games as a pro — other members in that club include Marshall Faulk, Terrell Davis, Saquon Barkley, and Alvin Kamara.
Sanders says he’s “fine,” so expect him to capitalize on that momentum next week against another smothering defense. The Eagles face the Bears in Week 9.
6. Devon Kennard, who got revenge over the team that didn’t want to pay him
Kennard broke into the league with the Giants, starting six games in 2014 as a fifth-round draftee. He’d stick in the team’s linebacker rotation over the next four years, making 35 starts as a versatile Swiss Army Knife-style player in the second level.
But when it came time for a new contract in 2018, New York declined to offer him an extension and let him test free agency. The Lions made him a priority, swiping him from the East Coast as their first signing under head coach Matt Patricia.
It took a year and a half, but Kennard got a chance to make the Giants finally pay up.
DK doing DK things! @DevonKennard pic.twitter.com/88piPbfTaC
— Detroit Lions (@Lions) October 27, 2019
Daniel Jones’ latest implosion behind a slipshod offensive line resulted in a backward pass, and Kennard was there to clean it up. His first NFL touchdown came against his former team, giving the Lions an early 7-0 lead in a 31-26 win. His seven tackles tied for the team lead as the Lions climbed back to .500 for the season.
5. New MVP candidate Kirk Cousins and his new best buddy Stefon Diggs
I guess it’s time to talk about Kirk Cousins. In a good way, too!
The former Washington QB failed to make a major splash in his first season with the Vikings. The man with the $84 million fully guaranteed contract couldn’t exceed the standard set by Case Keenum in 2017. That combination of overpaid and underwhelming bled into the start of 2019, when Cousins threw for just 735 yards in Minnesota’s 2-2 start.
Then the calendar flipped over to October, and Cousins’ renaissance has been undeniable. In his last four weeks, the veteran has thrown for an average of 315 yards per game, has a TD:INT ratio of 10:1, and has recorded an absurd quarterback rating of 137.1. The Vikings have gone 4-0 as a result, winning each of those games by double digits.
For the season, Cousins’ 115.3 passer rating and 9.3 yards per pass are both career highs that currently lead the NFL’s crop of QBs. The secret to his success? Remembering Diggs plays on his team:
Diggs averages, Vikings games 1-4 (2-2): 3.3 catches, 52.3 yards, 0.3 touchdowns per game Diggs averages, Vikings games 5-8 (4-0): 6 catches, 124 yards, 0.8 touchdowns per game
That’s made Adam Thielen’s recent absence a lot more tolerable in Minnesota these past two weeks. Cousins had just three incompletions in 28 attempts Thursday.
4. Flea flickers (and other trick plays), which are pretty damn great
Week 8 was a banner day for unorthodox plays. It all started in New Orleans, where head coach Kliff Kingsbury and his undermanned Cardinals team got bold in their upset bid against the Saints.
Kingsbury, a man who spent five years trying to make his way in the Big 12 with recruiting non-powerhouse Texas Tech, is used to spinning hay into gold. His creativity in divining offensive strategies is what led him to Arizona after being fired by the Red Raiders. He put that on full display Sunday afternoon.
Made ya look. pic.twitter.com/fToZrd1m9i
— Arizona Cardinals ⋈ (@AZCardinals) October 27, 2019
Kingsbury brought his fight directly to New Orleans, dialing up some first-quarter trickery with a WR sweep to Christian Kirk that developed into a flea flicker deep ball to tight end Charles Clay. The only problem with the play was that it wasn’t designed to go to someone quicker; the plodding veteran was brought down inside the New Orleans 15-yard line, turning a potential touchdown into an eventual field goal for Arizona.
That worked well enough to convince Lions head coach Matt Patricia to run pretty much the exact same play a little later (I’m kidding. Patricia only watches Patriots games).
OMFG pic.twitter.com/QWSZaiyrv0
— Isaac (@WorldofIsaac) October 27, 2019
That trickeration went to burner wideout Kenny Golladay, and it ended in a much-needed touchdown to shut down the Giants’ repeated comeback efforts.
But these weren’t limited to U.S. soil. The Rams, playing overseas in London, turned a handoff to Cooper Kupp into a touchdown catch for Cooper Kupp.
RAMS DOUBLE REVERSE ALERT @CooperKupp pic.twitter.com/QA3nYA8pyk
— The Checkdown (@thecheckdown) October 27, 2019
Quarterback Jared Goff took the snap and handed the ball off to his streaking wideout. He then pitched the ball back to Josh Reynolds, running in the opposite direction. Reynolds gave it back to Goff, who found Kupp tearing down the sideline as the Cincinnati secondary stumbled over its own feet trying to rectify the mistake. Then 65 yards later, the Rams were up 17-10 and the good people of London got a brief respite from a week when they were forced to deal with both Brexit and a Bengals game.
3. Deshaun Watson, who rallied the Texans to victory with one eye
With his Texans trailing Oakland late in the fourth quarter, Watson needed a touchdown. What he got was one of the most unbelievable plays of his budding career.
Deshaun Watson is UNREAL!@deshaunwatson | #OAKvsHOU pic.twitter.com/AInH5MDHR2
— Houston Texans (@HoustonTexans) October 27, 2019
Watson spun out of a sack, got kicked right through the facemask, and slung the ball to tight end Darren Fells despite a bloody and rapidly swelling eye. That touchdown would prove to be the deciding points in a win that kept Houston in the thick of the AFC playoff race at 5-3.
So could Watson see his target after getting kicked in the eye? Nope! He was pretty much just running on autopilot.
“I kind of threw it blind,” he told reporters in his postgame press conference. “I kind of assumed where he was going, kinda adjusted, let my arm guide it. I didn’t even see the play till after the game.”
Deshaun Watson is so good that he can roast you with one eye or fewer. Legend.
2. Mike Evans, now officially the greatest wide receiver Tampa Bay has ever seen
No other player in Buccaneers history has more catches than Evans, who raised his career total to 433 with an 11-reception, 198-yard, two-touchdown game. That’s impressive — but not nearly as impressive as the fact it took him less than five and a half seasons to get there.
Evans was responsible for 100 percent of his team’s touchdowns in a loss to Titans. Without him, Jameis Winston’s stat line would have been a 10-of-31, 103-yard, two-interception crater.
His record-setting catch was a perfect fit for a wideout who has used his size and speed to consistently stand out as the Bucs’ biggest weapon. Evans drew single coverage at the goal line and ran a simple out route that looked easy but would have been nearly impossible for a smaller, slower receiver to haul in.
That's career catch 4️⃣3️⃣1️⃣ for Mike Evans, giving him the most receptions in Bucs franchise history.#GoBucs | #TBvsTEN pic.twitter.com/7WfazNh9LM
— Tampa Bay Buccaneers (@Buccaneers) October 27, 2019
And somehow, this wasn’t the biggest receiving performance of Week 8.
1. Cooper Kupp, who boosted his jersey sales in the UK exponentially
Since 2010, 61 wide receivers drafted in the first round have failed to record at least 220 yards over the course of a season. On Sunday, Kupp hit that benchmark on his own.
The Rams-Bengals matchup wasn’t exactly a gift to the British Isles, but Kupp gave the fans at Wembley Stadium something to tell their grandchildren about. He finished his day with seven catches for a career-high 220 yards and a touchdown (the double-reverse flea flicker covered in No. 4 above). More absurdly, all those catches came in the first 33 minutes.
That was 2019’s biggest performance at wideout and a personal record for Kupp by 58 yards. He’s currently on pace for a 116-catch, 1,584-yard, 10-touchdown season — all of which would carve out his place in the uppermost tier of the league’s wide receiver pyramid.

Cold Takes: A Look At Chicago’s Sloppy Win At San Francisco
We’ve all seen the “Hot Takes” from the last weekend’s games all over the net.
In this series, I’m letting some time pass, and after reviewing the game tape a couple of times, I’m going to share some “Cold Takes” about the Bears pulling out a tough win over the San Francisco 49ers and staying alive for a bye in the playoffs. I’ll also sprinkle in a few thoughts about our division rivals. These are just a series of my thoughts and observations about the game as well as the Bears in general up until this point, presented in no particular order.
My game ball goes to Danny Trevathan. Not only did he have a huge, game saving pick, he also played on whale of a game from the first snap to the last. Honorable mentions go to Roquan Smith, Akiem Hicks, Khalil Mack, Eddie Goldman, Sherrick McManis, Deon Bush, Prince Amukamara, Kyle Fuller and last but certainly not least Leonard Floyd.
Leonard Floyd is the monster that we wanted out of him when we drafted him. These last six weeks, after he was fully healthy from the knee (from last season) and the hand, the man has been money. Literally. He’s about to get PAID.
Speaking of Floyd, if he starts this weekend I do believe we’ve got a couple of signature bets that get won... It will be interesting to see if the people who bet their sigs that Floyd wouldn’t start the entire season will “remember” that they did so.
No, before you ask, I am not the sig-bet police.
As usual, I’ve not got much to say about Mitchell Trubisky, mostly because everybody else talks about him a lot. Mitch had great numbers, but unlike what was reported on the radio, he had NOT seen the defensive holding flag when he launched that horrible throw into the end zone that was picked off. He just plain missed, and we got lucky.
THOSE types of passes are what we can’t have in the playoffs from Mitchell. He doesn’t have to win games by himself (he can HELP though), but he cannot allow himself to lose games. That was a Rex Grossman type throw, and we just need to not have any more of those.
Jordan Howard needs 176 yards to break 1,000 for the season (last time I checked). I’d like to see the Bears give Howard 40 carries and see if he can break that mark... because if they do that, and if he did, we win this ballgame this week. Minnesota is actually really struggling with the run (if you take out the LOLions & Packers games, because they can’t run on an NAIA team let alone an NFL team).
Richard Sherman’s explanations about the proper way to hit other players in the helmet when in a fight were interesting. Never punch, always swat with an open hand... they feel it more and you don’t hurt yourself. Sherman has a lot of experience doing this. I wonder why a lot of players think he’s a dirtbag?
We only dressed 4 WR’s, and when Anthony Miller and Josh Bellamy were ejected for fighting that left us with two wideouts for the rest of the game. For a lot of teams this would be a problem, but for Chicago? We just slotted Tarik Cohen and one of our pass catching tight ends out there and pressed on.
Think about this one, how things have changed. We only dressed four WR’s and one of them was Bellamy... and everybody was happy about it.
I asked the boys at The Chicago Audible Podcast (CLICKY) (formerly Da Bears Brothers Podcast) in their December 19 Q&A show (CLICKY) if they thought Joshua Bellamy had earned a multi year deal, and the fellas agreed that he had. Truth compels me to admit a bit of trolling here, I’m a long time listener and fan of the show, and over the history of the show the boys have not been noted as the biggest Bellamy fans... in fact, they pretty well universally had him cut during the pre-season roster episode.
So what do you good people think, does Joshua Bellamy deserve a multi-year contract along the lines of a Sherrick McManis deal? I think he absolutely does.
The more I watch Matt Nagy on tape... later after the game’s emotions settle down... the more impressed I am by how quickly he reads the defenses and throws changes at them.
This will probably make you roll your eyes, but I am dead serious. Matt Nagy slots in age between Drew Brees and Tom Brady. With what he has between his ears, if he can throw the ball AT ALL, he could be a winning quarterback in the NFL today. Make the read, get the ball out, boom. Of course, the first hit might put him in intensive care, but... hey, dreaming doesn’t hurt :)
BOOM!
Speaking of BOOM!...
Chicago Bears fans need to make BOOM! work, and we need to start in the playoffs. Seriously, this HAS to be a thing. Can you imagine the power and shock of 60,000 rabid Bears fans... and their players on the sidelines... doing the Matt Nagy BOOM!
I’ve been reading a lot of articles about Matt Patricia. We got the right Matt.
Green Bay has played a lot better since they fired their coach after losing at home to the hapless Arizona Cardinals.
I’m still laughing so hard it hurts... Green Bay lost at home to the Arizona Freaking Cardinals. The likely first team in the draft. With a healthy Aaron Rodgers. Excuse me, I’m about to die laughing.
Gasp. OK, got my breath back now. Whew.
Don’t look now, but Jon Gruden is still and idiot.
OK, there’s really only one huge thing to talk about with the 49ers and Bears, and of course it’s Robbie Gould. Robbie, a Bear forever no matter where and how long he plays, sure is missed, but even he admits he was needing a change his last year in Chicago. Personally, I think that change could have come by getting him a new position coach and coordinator to fix his mechanical issues and help him focus, but Ryan Pace decided to save some coin and cut him.
That’s worked out great for Robbie, but terrible for the Bears. Robbie has been even more automatic since he left than he was in his prime here. Of course, in San Fran land he’s kicking in much better conditions than Chicago, but still, the dude is on fire.
Bold prediction time. Robbie is a free agent, and appears to be happy in San Francisco... but he lives in Chicago, loves Chicago and the Bears need to upgrade in the kicking department. My bold (and very unlikely to come true) prediction is that Chicago eats the rest of Parkey’s contract and signs Robbie this off-season as a free agent on a 3-year deal. Robbie would rather live here with his family than out of an apartment out there...
Yeah, I know, that last one is more a pipe dream than reality, but a fan can hope.
As usual, I asked my fellow WCG contributors if they had any cold takes to share... you just know they did...
Eric C. Duerrwaechter
I sure do miss Robbie Gould. And the rest of the Bears’ fanbase certainly does as well. It bites not having a kicker who’s as automatic as Gould was during his prime, even through today. With that said, the objective should be touchdowns, not field goals. Yes, Ryan Pace and his staff should look into adding competition next year at the Kicker position. Then again, this offense is light years away from the old mindset of controlling the clock and settling for field goals if need be. Matt Nagy and this team want touchdowns, nothing less. And, well, I do not feel Parkey is nearly as bad as Connor Barth was for his time in Chicago.
It’s also comforting to see Mitchell Trubisky continuing to improve after his stinker against the Rams two weeks ago. As he displayed against the Packers just a week prior, Trubisky utilized his athleticism as a tool to buy time for his receivers to get open against zone coverage. He took a few sacks at San Fran against a decent front seven, yet he didn’t seem overly rattled when pressure was applied. Instead, he looked downfield, made quick decisions, and threw bullets with anticipation and accuracy. That is something I have waited to see consistently for a while now. Oh, and he is in the midst of a 7-game winning streak as the Bears’ starting QB. The last time any QB won 7 in a row? 2006, with Rex Grossman; a QB comparison that Trubisky has certainly outperformed.
And now, time to get a little hot...
Screw all the talk from ESPN and other pundits about needing an MVP caliber QB to reach the Super Bowl. Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl in 2000 with the Baltimore Ravens despite not even touching 2,000 yards in 11 starts while passing 12 TDs to 11 Ints. Joe Flacco won a Super Bowl in 2012 with a great defense while posting mediocre stats as a QB. Peyton Manning rode a great defense to the Super Bowl in 2015 despite having his worst year as a pro. He, Manning, threw 17 interceptions compared to just 9 touchdowns. And, just last year, a back-up in Nick Foles became the 2nd ever backup QB to win a Super Bowl. I would say Trubisky is better than any of those QBs were in the aforementioned seasons, and he’s good enough to win a Super Bowl with this season thanks to a scary Bears defense paired with a smart coaching staff.
Rant. Over.
Josh Sunderbruch
I don’t blame Ryan Pace for moving on from Robbie Gould at kicker. It needed to happen, and it was a decision based on performance (not pay). However, I absolutely do blame Ryan Pace for the parade of ineptitude that has made its way through the position since Gould was cut. Better kickers were available, yet Pace has provided the Bears with a motley collection that has gone 56/74 (<76%) since 2015.
Superfans
OK, Chicago Bears fans, there you have it. What do you think? Spill the beans!
