A million other people have definitely taken note of this, but GOD just the absolute multitude of tarot/arcana references with Viktor's new season character design is fucking GENIUS-
Like he is just absolutely embodying the symbolism of the Hermit tarot (a card all about self-reflection, introspection and new directions-) in his appearance and his new demeanor, and even in how he is approaching his relationship with Jayce and their discoveries with Hextech/the Hexcore.
I genuinely can't wait to see where else they go with this direction in his character design-

✷ Major Arcana ~ ©Lolle (2024) 🗝️🌞🌜✨
- - - - -
✧ yay! my #majorarcana series is finally complete!!! I honestly still cannot believe I’ve been finally able to illustrate these 22 tarot figures!! This actually is one of my biggest goals for so long!
It has been a really long and demanding process…I have to admit that I thought I couldn’t do it…and some figures have been decisively harder to draw than others! but I putted all of myself in this project, and after almost 4 months of hard work I’ve been finally able to complete it! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since I was in the preparatory phase, I had clearly in mind to give a really specific vibe to my “deck”…I mostly drawn inspiration from medieval fantasy/Arthurian Romance…so all of the 22 figures are actually based on that imaginary… I tried to incorporate these elements (like Arthurian characters, magical creatures and Medieval architecture) into the classical iconography of the Arcane…in order to create something unique, that would represent my vision of each figure in the best way!
I really hope to have been able to mix these elements in the most balanced way! 🤞🏻And I also hope you liked the whole project!! what’s your fav figure?? (mine definitely are : the Strength, the Wheel and the Death) 💀
👉🏻 my ultimate goal will be to be able to produce a real and proper Tarot deck to sell on my shop…unfortunately at the moment I don’t have the budget for that…and I also have to find a production partner!
meanwhile I’ll surely release these illustrations as art prints (maybe even a postcards set!) and I’ll use a selection of them for the incoming 2025 art Calendar! so…stay tuned! 🌿

That first panel, along with how Viktor is depicted in the new season opening, really was what cemented my theory/idea that they're delving into tarot for Viktor's character design and direction this season. He is moving forward, detaching himself from what he thought he had wanted from his life, his research and is coming to new revelations and realisations that far remove him from everything he had needed in the past.

XII - The hanged man • Air
XIII - The nameless Arcana • Earth
XIV - Temperance • Water
XV - The Devil • Fire
Just small associations that come to me!
And I find it nice this sequence because I had a hard time with The Hanged man and The Devil today - which is good because I saw my limits!

Where Does Viktor Fit in Zaun? What Kind of Message will the Herald Bring?
Tumblr media
We all know Viktor's headed to Zaun next season, but I've genuinely been wondering what he'll actually do when he gets there. The obvious answer would be that based on previously canon lore Viktor will become the Machine Herald and preach the path toward Glorious Evolution through cybernetic augmentation. But when I look at the state of Arcane, I just can't see that happening. So much of Viktor's story so far has been entwined with his relationship with the arcane and his own mortality which only becomes more complicated as he feeds the hexcore his Shimmer enhanced blood.
While Viktor started out as an engineer, Viktor's work became more associated with a combination of Arcane study and biological experimentation. More often than not, Viktor’s future as the Machine Herald is teased with biological imagery.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Viktor visits Singed, the equipment that frames him in the shot above is similar to his staff, but more importantly, Rio's silhouette resembles the shape of the Machine Herald's mask. The outline of Rio's body resembles the the 3-pronged shape of the Herald's mask as it appears on Sevika's tarot card. The mask on the card is actually different compared to all of Viktor's existing skins, the three spikes are designed in a way that resembles a crown.
Tumblr media
The cave where young Viktor first meets Singed, is covered in holes that resembles thousands of pained howling faces, surrounding both Viktor and Singed. Is it to represent the suffering Singed and/or Viktor will create in the future? Could they represent creatures of the Void, calling out to break free? Maybe the faces represent the already existent suffering of Zaunites who choke and perish in caves similar to the one they stand in?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What's more interesting is that the entrance young Viktor reveals himself to Singed with has the image of ghastly hooded figure carved into it. At first I thought this was supposed to represent inhabitants of the Void. Later, I realized this figure more resembled Zaunites suffering from Shimmer addiction like Huck.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It all feels like the story has been steering Viktor toward Shimmer and the complications of the Void rather than using cybernetics avoid human vulnerability as he did in previous canon. And when you think about Zaun in the context of Arcane, Zaun doesn't need the Machine Herald to promote his augmentations. Cybernetics have already grown in use and popularity in Zaun. After the time skip there's a stark contrast between Vander and Silco's gangs, many members of the latter from Sevika to Ran use augments. It's so prevalent that even members on Piltover's Council know about it. Sure they don't follow the original philosophy of the Glorious Evolution, but Viktor himself doesn't have the foundations for what was originally introduced to League either.
If anything, the visual hints in Arcane lead me to believe that Viktor will become some kind of prophet to the Void. Think about it, so much of what Viktor has done has brought him closer to magic and he's only become further ensnared once Shimmer was involved. From the little that we see of the Shimmer corrupted hexcore, it's likely sentient and it's influence on Viktor will only progress further once he's been completely alienated from Piltovan society.
Tumblr media
What does this mean for Zaun though? Well I think Viktor's presence will be a positive presence in the long term for Zaun. The brief moments we see real unobstructed reference to the Machine Herald, hhappens when the design of Viktor's various masks are integrated into the design of the water treatment facility he was implied to have made. The image of the Herald also appears as the the Magician tarot paired with the Death tarot (Jinx) to win Sevika's card game. I previously concluded that the card scene forshadowed that Viktor and Jinx would be the major factors that will win Zaun its independence. On top of that, no matter what universe you stick Viktor in, he fundamentally wants to help others. That drive hasn't stopped in Arcane, and won't stop next season.
Tumblr media
Despite Shimmer's justifiably sketchy reputation, it earned it Silco's hope and Singed's interest on it's ability to both sustain life and change it. Outside of being a strength enhancer, Shimmer was shown to effect the rate and longetivity of plant growth in the background of season 1. I think Viktor will be the one to further explore this aspect of Shimmer's effects to make positive impacts in Zaun next season.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have such confidence because one, Viktor’s research with hexcore and Sky's own note focus on the impact hextech has on biological matter. And two this one shot from Zaun's post-time skip music video.
Tumblr media
In the shot above, we see two men with masks and staffs designed in a similar style to the original Machine Herald, stand guard for the building behind them. To the left of these masked men is a sign that reads, "The Herald's Palace". Lofty name aside, what could these men be protecting? If you look into the window behind the two patrons getting their shoes shined you'll notice the outline of broad leaf plants. The masked men are guarding a cultivair! In Zaun, cultivairs are essentially greenhouses only the wealthiest of Zaun can afford to maintain, they're the only sources of fresh air located within Zaun so they have to be well protected. Cultivairs also double as public parks for Zaunites when chembarons want good PR.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The sneakiest possible hint is the design on the wall where "The Herald's Palace" sign is framed, it foreshadows who could have backed Viktor for his rise in prominence in Zaun. It's Jinx. This will make sense, trust me.
First, the swirling patterns of the wall design resemble the smoke cloud tattoo patterns Jinx has around her body. The use of the neon lights in the shot make the swirls appear a similar blue to the real tattoos.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Second, this isn't the only time the artists of Arcane used Jinx's swirly tattoo pattern to refer to her influence. Another time that happened was in the Firelights' music video opening. In the montage, we see bullet casings engraved with cloudy swirls in front of Eve's mask, after Jinx killed her.
Tumblr media
Jinx doesn't actually engrave her bullet shells, that's for rich people like the Kirammans. Those engravings are for the audience to know that Jinx was responsible for Eve's death, the early draft even shows the artists were thinking of invoking Jinx's impact by applying her more childish doodles on the shells.
Not only has Viktor and Jinx’s future partnership been foreshadowed more than once in the show, she's the only character outside of Singed I can see betting on Viktor. There's no real reason for Sevika to be interested in Viktor, because when Viktor's reputation is dragged through the mud, even other Zaunites will be wary of him. Sevika also already has a source for her augments in Chembaron Smeech's gang, the Scrap Hackers. What would Sevika want to do with a clearly unstable scientist that not only looks like he's been loyal to Piltover most of his life, but his own experiments killed a fellow Zaunite colleague? How would Viktor not come off any better than Jinx to her?
Tumblr media
Jinx will likely be the more empathetic party to Viktor and the disaster he created for himself, she can relate to it. And in related media, like RiotxArcane, he's one of the few people that extends empathy towards her character. She'd be one of the few that probably wouldn't flinch at the line of logic he'll follow in the next season as he continues to double down on the hexcore and the Void. I can only guess, but based on how Viktor reacts in other alternate universes, he'll probably push to further integrate Shimmer into the physiology of its users. Viktor would see it as a means to embrace the necessary change needed to survive the harsh environment of Zaun and the world itself. Who better to pitch such an idea to than one of the more successful Shimmer mutants like Jinx, and probably the extremists who really like her.
Tldr: To understand how Viktor will find his niche in Zaun, we need to understand that Viktor isn't defined by robotics. Viktor's defined by his devotion to helping others no matter how unethical. It's a mixture of his genuine empathy and compassion to those in need, and in his characterization in Arcane, the fact that he sustains his self worth from his ability to create and innovate. So it doesn't matter what kind of world he's placed in, a gothic cowboy world, a psychic soldier battlefield, or a world that worships death he will embrace the most extreme elements of his world and turn it back against the obstacles that put the common people down. Even if his solution is off-putting.
Sidenote: I didn't know where to fit this, but the one concept art that had Viktor's Machine Herald silhouette only further convinced me that Viktor doesn't actually become the Machine Herald like in League.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thanks to @MPiltovian on twitter for the sketch outline we can see in concept that Viktor's transformation is so stark he looks to be at least a full 2 ft taller. And I know that Arcane's a scifi-fantasy setting, but that's just not how prosthetics work. There's no way that even his full body could support the weight of all that metal, plus a giant laser claw on his back. Viktor probably completely fortified his body using Shimmer and the hexcore to strengthen it and is wearing an exoskeleton on the outside. Honestly, how does anyone single-handedly even turn themself into a full-conversion cyborg anyway?

What do you need to hear right now? Pick an image!
Tumblr media
No. 1.
Cards: RIDER WAITE TAROT:
King of pentacles, the magician, 2 of pentacles.
MAGICK OF YOU ORACLE:
26: protection: set personal boundaries. 27: resilience: burn away the past.
WOODLAND WARDENS:
The chipmunk and Laurel: success. The hound and pear: loyalty.
You have or will be stepping into a time of strength, success, and stability. You may have faced some recent struggles surrounding fluctuations regarding finances, stability, home life, work and or status. This could've been due to an unhealthy or less than favorable work / group situation, causing you to set boundaries and walk away.
You have (or will have) the tools available for you to embark on a new venture in business or career! If you're a practitioner of the arcane arts, I suggest using what you have on hand to do some sort of protection and prosperity spell or ritual! And if you are into astrology, and have your birth chart, look at your money houses and see if there's any particular transits going on for you at this time.
You're headed towards more committed and loyal bonds, finding people you can rely on and who can rely on you. Though the past may have been rocky, you're more than capable of producing a glorious harvest! And a harvest that you can share with those you love ♡
🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯
No. 2.
RIDER WAITE TAROT
Justice. 9 of swords. Knight of wands.
WOODLAND WARDENS
The ladybug and sweet pea happiness. The bobcat and blackthorn patience.
MAGICK OF YOU ORACLE
4: doable: the key is within your grasp. 16: merak: embrace oneness with the universe.
I heard "it's time to reflect." For you guys who picked number 2. I see that you've faced some major difficulties recently (or even over the past few years.) Through these harsh and trying times, you've likely developed some anxiety which in turn has lead to some sleepless or restless nights. And for that, I personally would like to say that I'm truly sorry to hear this. However! Despite what you may feel right now this period will come to an end. And I know, you're frustrated and impatient. But there are just somethings in this life we cannot rush, no matter how much we try to speed run to the finish line...sometimes we aren't meant to get there when we feel we should.
You maybe younger, and you're comparing yourself to others online or in your community that have reached seemingly impossible achievements. Maybe you're older, and you are upset at the life you've lead up until this point. No matter the age, you may feel you're slower than your peers, or lazy, or simply not good enough. But the human experience isn't about followers, ridiculous amounts of money and a picture perfect image. Being a late bloomer or simply not getting the current social trend, doesn't mean you're destined for failure or that something is wrong with you. The world we're living in is complex, distorted, and layered in so much that it can easily overwhelm us.
You deserve to discover your passions again, to reach for the light again, to walk with life without pressure again. Take some time to reflect, to recover, and don't push yourself to be something you are not. Sometimes, you just need to slow down and reevaluate what you want, what you're feeling, or what you simply need.
Happiness will find you again, it may not be today, it may not be this month. But slowly, as you recover and regain your strength you will find that the key is within your grasp. And when you find it, I want you to GRAB IT! Take what is yours because you have earned it my friend. Embrace the darkness, let it carry you to the light.
Justice will be served.
🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯
No. 3.
RIDER WAITE TAROT
3 of cups. King of Swords. Wheel of fortune.
MAGICK OF YOU ORACLE
12: hex: be still and allow the enemy to reveal themselves. 10: firgun: become a loving mirror.
WOODLAND WARDENS.
The weasel and pine: introspection. The turtle and coriander: satisfaction. The coyote and datura: deceit.
You may have had an altercation between enemies or discovered someone in your circle isn't as loyal and true as they've claimed. You may have had your suspicions about someone around you who isn't faithful or honest and the truth about them will be revealed. You're being advised not to act or react and instead allow them to trip themselves up on their own words / actions.
Regardless if you're currently going through this, or this entire ordeal has already happened and is a thing of the past or will be a thing in the near future, the most important thing for you to do now is be there for yourself. A period of introspection is necessary for you to process this action/betrayal or falling out.
Now, on the other side of the coin, and for a few of you. Whether you want to face it or not. It may have been you who lied to and betrayed someone you loved. You may of, at least at the time. Felt justified in your actions. Maybe you believed you were in the right, or you had all the answers. Maybe your view of them was distorted and murky, or you fell for lies and deceit from another about them. No matter the case, whether you did this on purpose or on accident, it's been eating at you subconsciously. You need to find the strength to face yourself and say "I fucked up." It ain't easy, believe me I know from personal experience. But you can't just pretend it didn't happen. We as people are going to hurt those around us with or without realizing it, none of us are innocent and none of us are perfect. You gotta look at yourself and still love who you are and accept that we all make mistakes. If you're truly sorry, and you now understand that your actions weren't just or simply were shitty, then apologize if you can. And if you can't, then as the God of War kratos said himself: don't be sorry, be better.
Allow the one you hurt to find peace, and allow yourself to find peace.
And as for those of you who were hurt, you will recover from this. This was fated to happen not because the universe is cruel or something big like that, but because that is simply how people are. The truth comes out eventually whether we'd like it to or not in most cases.
For both parties here, when all is set and done, you will find satisfaction and move on.
🕯🌹🕯🌹🕯🌹🕯
If you enjoyed this reading or it was accurate to you and your situation then please let me know, be it a simple like, follow/subscribe, a comment and or save! I hope you found this to be helpful, and that you have a great rest of your day or night!
Take care ♡

Upright: Despite the fear tied to the card, the Star Upright is a good omen. The Stars sits alone in the darkness sky, yet acts as the brightest of all beacons in that darkness. Hope fills the one who views it. Shining around it to dispel the darkness. As the only source of light in the darkness, this is your chance. Seize it with both hands. Chase after the light to where it leads you in the darkness. She will offer back hope, ambition, and determination. Let her fill you with these things, and you will find in you endurance to face anything that the Dark can throw at you.
Reversed: The dim light ahead weakly shines, until the shadows around it slowly consume over it. Plunging the world into woeful despair and darkness. The Stars has lost her hope and with it her light faded with it. Leaving only darkness, crushing and endless in its wake. With no way forward, and no way out, despair follows shortly after. But do not give up weary traveler, for the shadows will surely consume you too. This is a warning, believe in yourself, now is the time to be your own Star. Face the dark with courage… or you will be over taken by it forever.

Hello everyone!
Yes, I know I was busy with school that I’m slowly posting art from time to time. However, I’m letting you all know that I’m making a new drawings and I already got a list sorted out.
It’s a working progress in this new series but I want some feedbacks before I pinned them officially. I had this idea for a while ever since I started using some tarot cards and I got this idea: what characters should I make in the main 21 major arcane.
I already got a list ready but I also want to hear from you guys so I can maybe change it or keep the ones I already had plan.
Tumblr media
Let me know if I should change some of the characters. However, I’m keeping Vegito, Gogeta, Zeno, Zamasu, Beerus, Whis and Gohan/Videl in their place as they fit well for them.
Note: I just realize I forgot to fill number 10 after posting this! Like I said is still in the progress but I might add Grand Kai or maybe Pikkon 😂

Arcane's symbolism: Meaning of Vi
Tumblr media
Of all the Arcane characters, I feel that Vi's name carries the most meaning in relation to her character.
Besides being associated with love in general, violets are also linked with lesbian love (thanks to Greek poet Sappho, who's poems centered around the relationships between women, who often wore the flowers). It's clear how this ties in with Vi and her relationship with a certain Pilty...
Tumblr media
As for the shortened version of her name, Vi can be interpreted as the Roman numeral for the number six (which her stylised cheek Tattoo alludes to).
In Numerology, the number six is "the embodiment of the heart". It represents unconditional love and is a powerful force of compassion and empathy. The number six's strengths include:
Supportive - will be the first to provide a shoulder to lean on, truly try to understand, and give heartfelt advice. ("You wanna talk about today?", "We've all had bad days, but we learn, and we stick together")
Protective - its unconditional love extends to all people which allows it to speak up for those that don't have a voice. Especially fierce when it comes to family. (e.g. Vi standing up for Powder when Milo complains about her, her willingness to fight for the people of the Undercity)
Romantic - works hard to create peaceful relationships and is fluent in all love languages. Only happy when its other half is happy. (Romance we are yet to see...)
Tumblr media
Its weaknesses include:
Passive - in order to keep the peace, six may allow itself to get taken advantage of. Would rather go along with an undesirable option than make waves. (We only really see this part of Vi when it comes to Powder/Jinx. "It's alright Powder, at least you're okay", "We can just go. We can leave and never come back")
Self-sacrificing - so willing to sacrifice itself for others that it neglects its own needs and well-being. Often overlooks the the self-care that would make it feel balanced. (e.g Vi willing to turn herself in to the enforcers. She has little regard for her own safety, putting herself in danger several times throughout the series in order to find her sister.)
Idealistic - expects everyone to treat others the way it does, which it believes would lead to a perfect world. When it realises its ideals are unattainable, it may face extreme upset. ("I grew up knowing I'm less than them, that my place is down there. I want Powder to have more than that and I'm willing to fight for it". Another moment that comes to mind is the council scene, where Vi becomes frustrated with the council for not sharing Jayce's view on stopping Silco. "This is how things are, how they've always been. I was so stupid to think it could change.")
Tumblr media
(Going off point here: I noticed that Caitlyn has many of these qualities as well, in some cases exhibiting them even stronger than Vi. In this way, they are more similar than they realise. They both lead with their hearts.)
Let's move on to the third and final meaning, which lies in the realm of Tarot Cards. The sixth card in what is called the "Major Arcana" is, very fittingly, The Lovers.
This card has two different meanings, depending on its orientation in a reading:
1. The Lovers Upright
Represents conscious connections and meaningful relationships. The appearance of this card shows that you have a strong, beautiful connection with a loved one. You may believe you have found a soul mate or life partner. The chemistry between you goes beyond just physical attraction to something that is almost spiritual (AKA CaitVi).
While it typically represents a romantic tie, The Lovers card can also refer to a close friendship or family relationship where "love, respect and compassion flow" (AKA Vi and Jinx's sisterly bond)
The Lovers card is one of open communication and raw honesty. Its appearance is a sign that by "communicating openly and honestly with those you care about, you will create a harmonious and fulfilling relationship built on trust and respect". It's an invitation to open your heart and be vulnerable around someone (the scene that comes to mind is the one where Caitlyn and Vi are lying on the bed, and Vi talks about the childhood game her and Powder used to play. She shows a surprisingly amount of vulnerability, which leads to an intimate moment between her and Caitlyn. By being vulnerable, Vi instigated progression of their relationship. )
Tumblr media
On a more personal level, the card is about defining your beliefs and values and staying true to them. You are figuring out what your philosophy is and what you stand for. (This is something we see Vi struggle with throughout the series. Vi's ideologies are constantly challenged and therefore evolving. In Act 1, it's through Vander's teachings, and the rest of the series, it's Caitlyn challenging everything she thought she knew about enforcers and Topsiders in general. Even so, the biggest threat to her value system is in the finale, where she is faced with whether or not she should choose to put some of her own values aside to maintain her relationship with Jinx. I think we will see a continuation of this personal journey in season 2: Is she going to follow Vander's example or forge her own path? Will she choose to believe the Piltover and the Undercity's relations can improve, or will they forever be "oil and water"? Who is she when she isn't constantly striving to reconnect with her sister? Will she ever be able to forgive her for everything she's done? Will she ever be able to forgive herself?
Tumblr media
At its heart, The Lovers is about choice. Who you want to be. How you want to connect with others. This card is often a sign that you are facing a moral dilemma and must consider all the consequences before acting. It is advised not to make a decision out of fear, guilt or shame. Your values system is being challenged, and "you are being called to take the higher path, even if it is difficult."
Finally, The Lovers card encourages you to unify dual forces and bring together two parts, one that are seemingly in opposition, to form a harmonious "whole" (very fitting for a show whose central theme focuses on duality). This is where I see Vi and Caitlyn working together to forge peace between the two sides of the city, which is the reason she eventually becomes an enforcer. And, naturally, acceptance of this unified duality may also lead to the initiation of a relationship with Caitlyn.
Tumblr media
2. The Lovers Reversed
Reversed, The Lovers can signal a time when you're out of sync with those around you, especially your loved ones (and it's no secret that Vi and Jinx have become "out of sync"). You're relationship is strained and communication is difficult. Depending on the case, you can either try to bring love and compassion to the situation, or you can accept that you've grown apart and move on (this is the harrowing decision that Vi is facing).
The Reversed card may reflect that there are feelings in a relationship that aren't mutual. One person may be more emotionally involved than the other which, down the line, can lead to disappointment and insecurity. You may also be reluctant to open your heart for fear of getting hurt. (This is basically the "oil and water" scene beat for beat. Vi is afraid of opening up to a relationship with Caitlyn and shatters the prospect of "mutuality" by stating that it "wasn't meant to be". And then there's Vi's relationship with Jinx, which also has a lack of mutuality, at least from Jinx's point of view: "I thought, maybe you could love me like you used to, even though I'm...different". i.e Why can't you love the new me like you loved Powder? It hurts because it's not that Vi doesn't love her, it's that she doesn't love her in the way that she wants her to, thereby leading to her choosing Jinx over Powder. She can't go back to being Powder. After all, "she fell down a well".)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not only does the card refer to relationships with others, it also speaks to self-love and respect. To what extent do accept your identity and the value you offer the world? (I doubt Vi has any self-love and respect left, which is really sad. Her self-worth was already damaged in childhood; "I grew up knowing that I'm less than them. That my place is down there." This feeling of worthlessness was only exacerbated by her time in prison, where she was beaten senseless by the gaurds on a regular basis. You can tell by the way she carelessly throws herself into danger that she doesn't believe she's of any value except for being her sister's protector.)
The card encourages you to be mindful of when you look at other people and wish you were more like them. "Understand that if you can recognize these traits in others, it is because you have them within you." (In other words, what you perceive in others is a way for you to recognize your own strengths. Vi looks at Caitlyn and sees this amazingly kind, good-hearted and empathetic person. But what she doesn't realise is that she has these qualities as well. Caitlyn even points it out: "Despite it all, I can tell. You have a good heart ". Despite her constant cynicism towards Caitlyn, this quality still managed to shine through, enough for Caitlyn to notice it. My hope for next season is to see Vi get in touch with her tender side again after having to be tough for so long.)
If the Lovers Reversed shows up in a reading, you might face a tough choice with significant consequences (Vi faces the ultimate choice in the now infamous "tea party" scene, where Jinx presents her with the question: "Where should I sit? That's your choice, really." But what Vi doesn't expect is the way she has to answer that question: by choosing whether or not to kill Caitlyn.)
Instead of making a decision based on your values, you feel tempted to cut corners. (Vi tries to evade the dilemma by suggesting that they leave together. Nevertheless, this only makes the situation worse by riling up Silco.) The Lovers Reversed encourages you to reconsider and choose the path most in alignment with your values - no matter how difficult it might be (this might be a hint to Vi letting go of any prospect of a having a normal relationship with her sister again)
Tumblr media
Lastly, this card can also suggest inner conflicts and being at war with oneself, rather than with external forces. You may be punishing yourself for something you have done or consider yourself responsible for. (Vi clearly has an extreme sense of guilt. She was the big sister that was in charge of taking care of her siblings, and when it came to it, save Vander. Even though there are several factors at blame, she feels responsible for the death of her family and her sister's poor mental health. Not only that, she also feels guilty for not being able to support Ekko and Powder in the time following that fateful night. It must eat her from the inside out: If I just hadn't gone through with the heist, none of this would have happened. Why did I have to hit Powder? Why did I have to call her a jinx? I have no one left, and it's all my fault. I'm the real jinx.
Now, let's take a step back and see what the running theme is here. Considering each of the three meanings her name represents, it's easy to see: Vi is the human embodiment of the heart. And love is the force that drives her. Nevertheless, sooner or later she's going to flatline. A heart must both give and receive blood for it to continue beating.
From what we've seen, there is NO DOUBT that Vi is able to give immense amounts of love; it's literally permanently tatooed onto her. But the question remains; will she be able to let herself receive it?

MDZS as tarot cards
Word count: 1526
Reading time: 5 min 30 secs
I've seen some posts about lovely interpretations of MDZS characters as tarot cards, but I was so beyond shocked at some of the choices behind it. It appears that oftentimes, people are associating cards with their name, rather than their actual meaning, so, as a loser who has familial history surrounding tarot, I’ve come to propose my own renditions.
To begin with, my interpretations will have a major arcana card, as well as a suit/minor arcana card. Keep in mind that these interpretations are INTERPRETATIONS. This is not concrete.
For clarification: “words, words” = upright meaning | “words, words, words” = reversed meaning
First up, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji!
Wei Wuxian
The Magician
“Willpower, desire, creation, manifestation” | “Trickery, illusions, out of touch”
After some serious deliberation over The Hanged Man or The Magician, I eventually ruled that the upright meaning of the card was something that is the very essence of Wei Wuxian’s character. Wei Wuxian is introduced to the reader (beyond his death) as an incredibly intelligent and intrinsically creative character. Throughout the story, his ingenuity in situations that need solving and his out-of-the-box thinking (the water ghoul in Cloud Recesses, the creation of talismans and flags, his use of demonic cultivation after losing his core, discovery and unveiling of Jin Guangyao) is something that drives the majority of his actions, and also places him in serious situations with serious (unintended) consequences. Yes, he’s a sacrificial fool (something that assigning The Hanged Man would have recognised), but I think his spark and general genius is something that is important as well. Key descriptions of The Magician revolve around one hand held to the heavens, and one pointed to the earth, with the rest of the arcane suits (wands, swords, cups, pentacles) placed nearby, symbolising the magicians inherent connection with every element.
The placement of the arms is something that is very important to the card, but also its connection to Wei Wuxian. It appears to be saying that the earth is a reflection of the heavens, the heavens a reflection of the earth. Wei Wuxian is driven by loyalty and his own internal beliefs, that lead his entanglement with Lan Wangji, his protection of the Wens, his sacrifice of his golden core. Those higher ideals represent the hand in the heavens, and Wei Wuxian’s own anger (and perhaps arrogance) in the fact that the people of the world don't echo his morals. The hand towards the earth is like his eventual downfall, the growth that comes with recognising that not everyone can be like him, can have the same giant heart he does (and is something that we only get very subtly near the end). I think that the depiction of the suits is something that's pretty rudimentary to understand. Wei Wuxian is a genius, adept in everything he does (except naming things), so like The Magician, of course he is able to wield all suits (which represent the elements of fire, water, earth, and air). If we want to get real picky with it though, perhaps it’s also a representation of how Wei Wuxian’s genius and care for others translates across numerous sects. He is not bound to the one suit or clan, he is free to give his loyalty to whomever he pleases.
I also considered the reversed meaning of every card I assigned, and felt that “trickery, wasted talent, illusion, deception” was a very accurate presentation of Sunshot Campaign/Yiling Laozu Wei Wuxian. Wei Wuxian’s incredible creativity was used to hide a lot of things during this time, including the actual removal of his golden core, which would fit the delusion and trickery aspect of the reversal. My favourite part of The Magicians reversal however, is the wasted talent. Because we as readers know that Wei Wuxian is anything but, but that's not how he’s viewed in the story. The very first chapter, everyone is shocked on how someone as renowned and gifted as Wei Wuxian ended up “where he is now”, which is to say, a heretical demonic cultivator who killed 3000 skilled cultivators in one day. That wasted talent is a key part of the context of the novel, and is so important to Wei Wuxian’s characterisation, the idea that he fell off after the events of the Sunshot Campaign, even though we know it was just a product of his ingenuity that no one else really cared about.
The Knight of Wands
“Action, adventure, fearlessness” | “Anger, impulsiveness, recklessness”
To begin with, Wands is associated with the element of fire, and represents passion, inspiration and willpower. The Knight of Wands depicts a knight atop a horse “reared and ready for action”. The upright meaning alongside the horse depicts the usual vibrancy of Wei Wuxian. He is always ready for adventure, he finds joy in the smallest of things, and is always confidently leading the way in situations that require it. I feel that the reversed meaning of the card also suits (yet again) Yiling Laozu Wei Wuxian. A reverse Knight of Wands can translate into a loss of power and needing to compensate for something one doesn’t have total control over. Doesn’t that sound familiar?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lan Wangji
Temperance
“Middle path, patience, finding meaning” | “Extremes, excess, lack of balance”
I would like to begin this one with a very loud fuck you to the mischaracterisation in the MDZS fandom. I’ve seen first hand the love and tenderness held towards Lan Wangji’s character be watered down to caveman with no emotions and no respect. (Update: I wrote this post like 7 months ago, um wtf was my issue, i’m sorry)
Continuing onwards, Temperance was the card I eventually chose for Lan Wangji after way more deliberation than was probably needed. The upright and reversed meaning of this card is pivotal to Lan Wangji’s character in reference to pre and post timeskip. Lan Wangji at 16 years old is a menace, a stickler for rules, and someone who simply cannot see the other side of the coin. Yes, he’s honourable and stands up for what he believes in, but his flaw in this is that he forces that ideology onto others, unaware that other people have different life experiences and morals, and therefore cannot be like him. This leads to a sort of arrogance that drives him away from his peers, since they, as immature teenagers, don’t want to adhere to Lan Wangji’s immature teenager beliefs that everything he does is how everyone else should be doing it.
The literal depiction of the card features an angel who is half in the water, half on land, mixing waters between two goblets. The angel is almost giving the advice to try all options before continuing, testing the water gradually before jumping into the deep end. Which sounds very much unlike Wangji in many places, but as a reminder to the unreliable narration of Wei Wuxian, Lan Wangji is only ever a fool around him.
Time quite literally tempers Lan Wangji. At 16 he is an isolated loser with no friends, and by the time he’s thirty-something, he’s been worn down by a decade of grief and mourning. He’s calmer, sees all angles with his almost omnipotence, and is much calmer than before. While he was easily riled up as a teenager, older Lan Wangji is smart enough to either let it go (walking away from Jiang Cheng in the very beginning), or simply act without explaining (throwing around silencing spells like they're going out of fashion). He finds his place in the world and grows into the name he was titled, Hanguang-jun, the bearer of light, and is comfortable and secure enough to have found his path. Patience follows every one of his actions in the timeskip, and his meaning in life? Love and cherish the man he lost all those years ago. Romantic!
The Knight of Swords
“Direct, focused, perfectionist” | “Tactless, forceful, arrogant”
I genuinely enjoyed assigning a minor arcana card for characters because through this I can draw parallels between them. Notice how both Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian are Knight cards? An excellent reminder of the parallels between them both. The Knight of Swords depicts a young knight in armour riding atop a white horse in battle, the whiteness of the horse being a reference to the pure nature of the knight, his righteousness that drives him to raise his sword. The knight, despite having the background showing storm clouds and strong winds, charges onward regardless, displaying his forceful and arrogant nature, and Lan Wangji is mostly noted for his almost single minded determination to complete his goals. He will never sacrifice others for it (separating him from ruthless ambition), but he is almost arrogant in his actions as a Jade of Lan and darling of the cultivation world (the morals he keeps pushing onto others, telling Wei Wuxian to come back to Gusu with him, quite literally dragging him there (he enjoyed it though, I guess), and so on and so forth).

FNV Characters Through The Lens Of Tarot Archetypes: Part 1
courtesy of @asynchronouscommunication
i've shortly covered The Fool and The World in this post, the former in more detail, so i will likely try to do 3 parts with 7 Major Arcana in each (so 21 in total, excluding The Fool). also it's to be noted that this is not "fnv characters as major arcana", mostly because i connect a character with an archetype while highlighting specific aspects of both, as there obviously can never be a perfect match. that being said i do have a lot of thoughts about the concept of a full fnv-themed tarot deck bouncing around in my brain (mostly bc the official fo4 tarot deck sucks BIG time in terms of character to card relevancy and even BIGGER time in terms of any actual symbolism (as in there is zero)) but that will come much much later if at all and i will also not be revealing the full notes on that because it's likely that this project will come into reality at least partially (aka just the major arcana)
also: this will be based off of the most commonly known Waite tarot, partially because i think Al*ster Cr*wley was a dick and partially because i genuinely do not have the energy to explain to myself and everyone here the metric tons of symbolism the Thoth tarot has to yall
anyway ramble over let's begin
I - The Magician - Arcade Gannon
This seems to be a universal conclusion among all the people even remotely interested in combining fallout and tarot, and i honestly agree! The Magician, above all else, is about creation and knowledge - inquisitive, motivated and competent, in his upright position he moves towards his goals with certainty and enthusiasm, always exploring the new and incorporating it into his framework of operations. There are two limiting factors, however, which can hinder his journey - doubt and pride, as demonstrated in his reversed position. Both of these can be seen in Arcade in very different contexts, for he is doubtful about his abilities and endeavors, but takes great pride in his ideals and beliefs, which sometimes can be quite a negative. This is best demonstrated by two moments in dialogue with him that both occur in your first meeting in the Fort - his attitude towards his research vs. his thoughts on what future is best for New Vegas and surrounding territories. He's very explicitly characterised as an idealist (and i almost wish that side of him had been explored a bit more in terms of how the courier engages with it), yet one who's not confident in himself at all and often prefers a more passive approach within his community. With this, he possesses not only The Magician's strengths, but also his weaknesses and struggles, making him more than fit to be represented by this archetype.
II - The High Priestess / The Papess - Chrisrine Royce
Here is where things get more complicated. I've thought about The High Priestess for a long time, both separately in conjunction with The Hierophant, as these two cards are connected in much the same way as The Empress and The Emperor. While the latter pair represents all things earthly in their mundane reality human passion (more on them below), the former are more focused on "the above": the arcane knowledge, the subconscious, the unknown. As such, who better to represent those aspects than the Brotherhood? As The Hierophant's counterpart, The High Priestess represents knowledge itself as the ultimate goal, rather than the dogmas and laws stemming from that knowledge. In her upright position, this resonates with Christine's already strikingly vast knowledge of various technology both known to the Brotherhood and not, which is only broadened by her visit to the Big Empty and eventual residence in the Sierra Madre. At the same time, the reasons that led her there resonate much more with the reversed High Priestess - one where her patience and attentiveness dissipates, leaving behind blinded judgement and subpar decision-making. Still, in her journey Christine manages to achieve closure and, in a way, a sort of peace as the 'warden' of the cursed casino. And I think it's there that she is fully realised as The High Priestess - knowing, subtle and mystical, yet inevitably static, almost as if suspended in time and space.
AANNNNDDD tumblr posted my unfinished draft AGAIN whatever i'll do a part 1.5 where i'll do all the rest
lmk your thoughts or whatever
