You could tell at a glance that his body was built for violence. There was a wiry sort of cruelty to it, every muscle condensed by years of hatred into sharp, simple shapes. It was not the body of a bodybuilder- his skin was pallid and ashen, his frame just barely more than slight. It wasn't the body of an athlete, either. The image of that man at a swim meet or kicking a soccer ball around was amusing. No. He had the body of a predator. He was built to outrun you and subdue you.

Not that you were running. You were sitting at the bar, eyes puffy and eyeliner smeared across your cheek, halfway through a drink you didn't pay for. The prospect who'd deemed you worthy of a night's mistakes had long since abandoned you after another unprompted bout of tears. You were far too far from tipsy, but the bartender probably wasn't going to serve you again after that display, so you'd have to savour this disgusting cooler as long as it'd last.

The way this man looked at you, it was like a wolf staring down a rabbit. On a usual night, you might have asked an employee to accompany you to your cab after a man looked at you like that. Tonight was a different story. You weren't running, because somewhere under the surface, you wanted to be devoured.

"This is just the time for it to be late, too... Supplies are super low. I'll have to touch down."

"I'm exhausted. How about a little essence for my services?"

It's time to introduce the mysterious new clan member you've been waiting for—Rei.

With a fiercely independent approach to life, Rei's mind is a treasure trove of useful knowledge. He follows his own set of values and beliefs, and will do just about anything to achieve his goals... Despite his relaxed, carefree exterior, his essence has a tendency to go haywire, bringing with it excruciating pain.

You woke up at 7pm lying half inside a clawfoot tub in your boxers. One arm and one leg were draped over the side, pins and needles indicating you'd been this way for a while. The faucet was digging into the side of your head. Streaks of blood ran down over your collarbone and had dribbled off your torso to form a congealed pool underneath you. There was a pulsing pain behind your left eye, and your body was weak. Drained.

In a daze, you struggled to right yourself. The porcelain squeaked as your flesh rubbed uncomfortably against it. Your shoulder got smeared in your own blood, cold to the touch and separated out with a slick oil floating on top. Nasty. After getting a clammy grip on the side of the tub, you managed to lift yourself up and out, toppling out onto the cool tiled floor.

You left a stain of blood behind as you rose shakily to your feet. Your knees nearly buckled under your weight. Your mouth was so dry. If this was what exsanguination felt like, you didn't want it to happen again.

Stumbling out into the apartment proper, you squinted against the dim lights. Across the room, there was the predator- unmistakable even from behind. He was sipping casually from a glass of wine, sitting across the dining table from a plain looking woman. Over his shoulder, you watched her eyes widen.

"I think your issue might be solved," she told him in a soft, pleasant chime of a voice. "And you might have a new one."
