The New ""Afton" Children"" Are Gender Bends Of The Old Ones

As we know when Vanessa is corrupted by Glitchtrap she thinks a guy named Bill is her dad (most likely William). This was probably the inspiration for making her an Afton in the movie, basically confirming the nature of her relationship with Glitchtrap in the games.

We also know Gregory was under Glitchtrap's control at one point in GGY. It is also hinted that Cassie may now be under the Mimic's control.

A cool detail I noticed is that it's an older girl, a young girl, and a young boy. 2 children of the same gender, one older one younger and a younger sibling of a different gender.

Which is the exact opposite of the original Afton children. Which is; an older boy, a young boy, and a young girl. Same pattern but gender swapped; 2 children of the same gender, one older one younger and a younger sibling of a different gender.

I don't know if it means anything or is just a huge coincidence but I find it very cool. And damn this family tree keeps growing and gets more and more fucked up.

Interview with a Fic Writer Meme

1. Your favourite fic that you’ve written (or the one you want to give a shout out to)

We’ll Be Home For Christmas, mainly because of how much fun I had writing it and the new friend I found and the Kermadecs are an amazing place and that fic changed how I write Thunderbirds fic forever because I now know Tracy Island’s place in the world and its ecosystem and yeah, I am such a geek.

2. Your favourite fic title that you’ve come up with

No idea. But because I’m old and live in a popular culture that peeps twenty years younger than me probably don’t, you might want to check out the chapter titles of We’ll Be Home For Christmas and the theme song to Gilligan’s Island. In my total cluelessness, I didn’t realise how unobvious they were to peeps who aren’t as ancient as I am and didn’t grow up with sixties TV on loop through the eighties.

3. How do you get inspiration to write?

You name it, it hits me. I currently have several fics, including Wire, currently inspired by the fact I park my car in front of a farm every morning when dropping off my daughter to school. If I’m feeling down, Virg will either be whumped or end up in some hilarious situation (it’s weird, I’ve written some of my funniest stuff while feeling my worst). Sometimes I will be desperate to reach out to the natural world and can’t – that’s when Virg ends up on some beach and gets all arty-farty so I can reach out through him.

Often an initial scene will spark something bigger and I’ll be writing for weeks, desperately trying to keep a plotline straight and find an ending.

But my best stories happen from a solid idea of something that I don’t think has been done in the fandom before and is something I would like to explore – Sotto Voce, VT Green, We’ll Be Home For Christmas (which was a prompt but I actually developed and planned it before writing), Callisto, Gentle Rain – these have coherence, and while they may have wobbled crazily on their path, they mostly had a plan.

4. Your favourite genre/subgenre of fic to write?

I’m a whump girl, but I love a good plotline to go along with it. This often requires brain power, not something I always have. I also like a challenge and to try new things, which is why we have a romance, a boat trip and a space voyage in my stash.

5. Do you have other hobbies?

I have far, far too many hobbies. I rotate through them and obsess at times – anything in the art spectrum from traditional through to graphic design and a multitude of crafts, geology, botany, ecology, marine life, genealogy…lots of ology in the science spectrum, but the closer you get to the physics end, the less I understand due to my brain’s inability to process certain concepts. Oh and a variety of history, both local, and world-wide human, and definitely palaeontology. But yeah, lots of lovely knowledge and things to play with :D

6. A fun fact about you that a lot of people may not know

I’m a synesthete.

8. Favourite genre of music

Whatever my brain needs at the time, usually in concert with whatever I am doing. Lots of film soundtracks through to popular music. Very picky and suck at finding new stuff to listen to. Will listen on loop until both brain and track is fried.

I rarely know the singer or the band. Though Nick and Ben Foster are pretty cool :D

10. How have your experience in fandom been?

I have been properly active in about three fandoms over the years, though I have read in many more and even written in a few others. One was a big one, the other two were small.

The big one was good with the occasional odd encounter, but I kept to my little corner. The first small one was very small and was going very well until I had a falling out with another fan. Being a small fandom, it was very difficult for everyone involved. I also, at the time, was at a very hard spot in my life and that, in part, led to my withdrawal from fandom (though I eventually had kids so that really yanked me out of everything). Ten years later I found Thunderbirds and everything has been absolutely lovely. If I wasn’t enjoying myself, there wouldn’t be 200 fics to show for it :D (yes, I’m going to repeat that number repeatedly cos I’m quite happy I’ve been so productive :D)

Some headcanons I came up with while thinking about ways to flesh out Good Robo BnT :-)

“Good Robot Bill” and “Good Robot Ted” start feeling like awkward titles post Bogus Journey. Not only are the names mouthfuls to say all the time, but as the robots live with the Preston-Logan family, they prove to have their own unique personalities

Jo jokingly dubs them “Willie and Ned” as a work around, and it ends up sticking from repeated use

The robos are definitely BnT-esque in a lot of ways, like their vocabulary and (painted on) fashion and such, but the longer they’re around, the more their differences come out

They don’t really care for the spotlight, they’re fine with smaller things and simple joys, like performing for and entertaining kids and stuff

They don’t have the same life baggage/history as BnT, and as a result don’t have the same insecurities, hesitancies, or habits, which can make them seem starkly different in certain cases

In general though, they’re what they seem on the tin: really chill and caring robots. They have feelings and stuff, but they’re more simplified in some ways. They’re ok just existing, they don’t really hold grudges or feel embarrassed, they’re just vibing and don’t experience a lot of the same hard highs and lows that humans do

Most of their feelings are positive, they just don’t have a reason for them not to be

They do experience some frustration, usually when it comes to communication issues, since their word banks are slower and more clunky than those of the people around them

They can’t chime in to conversations or reply as fast, and they don’t know how to describe certain complex things, because they weren’t built with that in mind. There’s a gap between their processing ability and their design, and it can make communicating difficult sometimes

They make it work, but it is one of the big reasons they like children a lot. It’s easier to talk with them, there’s less pressure, and plus, Willie and Ned were programmed with a strong protective instinct, so that draws them to them too

After performing as background dancers for Wyld Stallyns for a few years, Willie and Ned decide to try something different and actually open a little daycare/preschool place

They sing about numbers and animals, teach the kids how to dance, and let them draw and paint all over their metal

Over the years they get quite the collection of drawings and stickers (cred @juiceboxfrog!)

They actually end up contacting Station to kidproof them a bit, so they aren’t as pokey and are able to interact with the kids safer

One of the younger kids puts a pop tart in Willie’s leg toaster once, and when he notices he walks to an outlet to plug it in for them

The building the preschool is in doubles as their house, and they live in the upstairs space, with the school on the ground floor

That’s where they have their charging and maintainence stations, some fake plants and a radio, as well as where they archive all the art and gifts they get from kids when the downstairs walls get too full

The robos are pretty off putting to most parents, but the kids love them

They’re in that sweet spot between strange and child friendly where they appeal to kids’ imaginations, and they’re also robots, which is super cool

Willie and Ned care a lot about the kids, and really work to connect to and support them

One kid they get is reeeaaally scared on their first day, but the robots bond with them and make them feel comfortable, and the next day the same kid is running in excited to see them

The first time one kid manages to write their own name, Willie lumbers over to Ned to show him and they both have a little robo stim exchange that mostly consists of unintelligible sound bytes and excited jerks

That happens whenever they get legitimately excited, it’s the only way they can really express it

Love is another thing they express a certain way, too

They have a very them relationship. It didn’t really have a start, it just was, and is, because it’s them

They’re clunky and strange, but they love each other and show it, even if not in all the same physically affectionate ways other people do

They sit with each other on the porch to watch the sunset every night, they like feeding the birds together, and they always try to fix each other up when needed, even though their poorer fine motor skills can make that difficult

Sometimes they make the problem worse, but that’s still ok. The other will just bump against them lightly to let them know it’s alright, and they’ll get outside help the next time they’re able

A lot of their communication when alone is nonverbal. Besides a few audio exchanges now and then, talking just isn’t necessary in their relationship

Ned really likes plugging into the radio, and he usually shuts off most of his sensors so he can really focus on the music

Willie doesn’t mind and always leaves him to it during radio time, doing his own thing until Ned unplugs

They can’t hold hands very well because their fingers end up getting jammed together, but they like high fives, and taking walks around the neighborhood

Sometimes they have WALL-E-esque spark touch kisses, but those are rare, since they usually cause one or both of them to short out or burst an eye bulb. They reserve them mainly for special occasions, though have done them a few other times when really excited

Their favorite thing to do has and always will be to dance together in their living room after everyone’s gone home. They get to romp and clunk around and not worry about being too loud or about having to keep their movements smooth, and they just get to be with one another, robot with robot, simple as can be

One, The meeting.

Plot: Both Spencer and Olivia mourn their losses. Maybe doing it together works best.

A/N: Hi y’all! I’m very excited to share this. I submitted it for a creative writing assignment last week and I thought I would share it here too. This is the first time I post what I write and I kinda want to make this a series.

Olivia knew pain was lighter on the shoulders when carried with someone else, she was completely aware of the fact that pushing her friends and loved ones away was the last thing you’d want to do when grieving. Didn’t stop her, though. Opening up was a conscious effort she had to make.  

Lia had been gone exactly 467 days. Each one harder, longer and duller than the last.  Her mom had told her that pain didn’t have an expiration date, that she shouldn’t worry about getting over Lia’s death sooner than she was ready to, but nothing could help the feeling in the back of her mind, the little voice that reminded her that the world did not stop spinning when she left. Even if she felt like it did.

Mornings were almost automatic at this point. Get up, make an effort to look better, grab an excuse for breakfast, promise mamá you’ll get something else on the way to work, drive mindlessly to the place you knew like the back of your hand. The Grey Roots was special, it seemed to transform people’s perspective as soon as they walked in, it was full of memories and knowledge. That much was true for Spencer Reid.

Maeve had been gone exactly 278 days. Each one harder, longer and duller than the last. The team did their best to navigate around Spencer’s grief, always taking hints the he dropped. A fake smile that meant “we can ignore my loss today”, a shrug accompanied with the ghost of a smile that meant “today I’m feeling better, but I’m not expecting it to last”, and the words “I’m fine, I promise”, that roughly translated to “this is manageable today, so don’t ask me about it”.

The love and sense of protection the BAU had over Spencer was instinctual, which was hard when he seemed to be a thousand miles away while standing right there. Morgan had said that if isolation was what he needed right now, isolation he was going to get, but always with the promise of his friends running straight to him if he needed the comfort.

On his days off, he tried coming to terms with the loss. Loss was a tricky thing, Spencer thought. By definition, it was the state or feeling of grief when deprived of someone or something of value, so if it meant the absence of something, why did it feel like loss went with him everywhere?

The Grey Roots was a landmark in the man’s life. Maeve had recommended he visit the museum while they were corresponding, which he was more than happy to do, always trying to find a way to feel closer to her than he could actually be. Now his visits changed in nature, he was there to reminisce. To try and get the optimistic feeling of loving her to come back.

The stranger that usually walked around the museum with files in her hands went unnoticed for a while, but to her, Spencer had never gone unnoticed. She had been watching him his last four visits, visits that were a lot closer together than the usual visitors liked, which naturally, sparked her interest. She was drawn to him, always turning her head to check if he was there and her eyes lingering for a beat too long to try and come up with an excuse to start a conversation.

Olivia cared very little about dating and would usually turn down people’s advances, but as he sat there, earbuds in and basking in the sunlight the botanical garden side of the museum had to offer, she couldn’t help but hope he was one of those ballsy men that usually approached her. Apparently, the gods felt bad for Ollie, because as Spencer stood up to go, a book slipped out of his bag onto the floor. Oblivious to it, he kept walking.

“Thank the fucking gods” Ollie whispered to herself as she made a beeline for the book. Trying to reach the tall guy, she elbowed her way through the people walking in front of her and tapped him on the shoulder. Play it cool, dork.

“Hey” she said trying to get her breath back. “You dropped this back there” She tried not to fixate on the way his curls looked with the sun shining directly on them, or on the way his eyes took in her presence.

“Oh, thank you so much” He rushed out, grateful that he didn’t have to lose the last thing that connected him to Maeve and cursing himself for being so careless.

Make conversation, now. Say something. Anything. “I take it that’s important, you look relieved” she giggled to try and appear chill. Failing miserably, of course.

“Um, yeah. It was.” Beat of silence. “It is. It was a gift” He answered looking down at his feet, holding on to the book like it might disappear if he doesn’t.

Now, genuinely relieved she could spare him the disappointment, Ollie looked up at him. “Then I’m really glad you didn’t have to lose it” She replied, mirroring Spence’s thoughts, which made him smile.

To the doctor, looking at her felt almost offensive to Maeve’s memory, like she could see him staring curiously at this kind stranger whose eyes were enticing enough to make him forget how to talk. His best friend JJ was the best at reading his expressions and figuring out what he was thinking, she was smart enough to know Reid felt guilty for wanting to move on and leave the pain behind, so she made sure he knew that no one expected him to act like a widower forever, not even Maeve. After all, no one tells you how long you’re expected to mourn a loss, there’s no unspoken rule of appropriate sulking time. 278 days later still felt like too soon and just about enough at the same time. Strangely enough, he wanted to keep talking to this girl, and it would have to start with an introduction.

“I’m Spencer”

“I’m Olivia, but please call me Ollie” or call me anything you want.

“Ollie, good” he let out a giggle that was uncharacteristic of him to say the least. Mainly because he had never made it this far into a conversation with someone as pretty as Ollie. “You work here” It wasn’t a question, he noticed the plaque pinned to her shirt that read Dr. Olivia Vega, Conservator.

“Yes, I’m one of the conservators here. I know I might not look like it, but I promise I know my stuff” This observation prompted Spencer to give her a once over and he smiled at how right she was. She was wearing black cargo pants and a simple lavender t-shirt she seemed to have cropped herself, her arms were covered with little tattoos and her dark hair had streaks of purple in it. She was a sight to see, and hadn’t she been so kind and smiley, Spencer would’ve been intimidated by her. “My mom always says I look like I dropped out of high school to form my own punk band” She added, interrupting his train of thought. “I kind of agree with her now that I think about it, but I have a doctorate in history and that’s not very punk”

“Well, I’m a federal agent but I look like my grandpa, so I’m right there with you”

You do not look like a grandpa. “A federal agent, huh? The wall-climbing, gun-shooting, vest-wearing kind?”

“Sometimes, yes. But I work for the Behavioral Analysis Unit so the work I do revolves around profiling people, we try to narrow down the suspect pool by studying the way the crime was committed and making educated guesses about what kind of person would do that and the possible motives behind it. I also have doctorates, but not in history” He said, glad he could sound cool in front of what appeared to be the coolest human ever. Maeve doesn’t mind you moving on, he repeated to himself.

“Judging by the fact that you didn’t introduce yourself as ‘Doctor so and so, but you can call me Spencer’ I think you’re nice and not full of yourself” Ollie joked. “I would have been super intimidated if you’d lead with that”

Is she a witch or am I thinking out loud? “You should see the people I work with. I look like a 12-year-old boy compared to them” She erupted in laughter, causing Spencer to blush. “I’m not kidding, they call me ‘kid’ and ‘pretty boy’”

They got that right, you are pretty. “No way, my older co-workers call me ‘kid’ too! And I’m their boss. The least they could do is call me Doctor Kid.” She pretended to pout.

A mom with a stroller trying to walk past them made the two realize they were still standing in the middle of the path, so entirely entertained with each other that they didn’t notice the third-grade class that had just passed them. As if the realization had struck them both at the same time, they looked back at each other, both of them trying to stretch the interaction as long as they could.

“Do you, maybe, want to have this conversation somewhere else? Perhaps not in the middle of the crowd?” She asked hopefully.

Taken aback by the offer, Spencer agreed and followed her back to her office, that looked exactly like he would expect it to. A bunch of framed pictures with friends and family covered the wall to his left, she had a jean jacket full of pins hanging behind the door and a bunch of miscellaneous books on a bookshelf right behind her desk, all of them with post its sticking out and what he assumed were her bookmarks.

After offering him coffee, they talked about all the things they had in common and relished on the things they didn’t. It was refreshing to get out of their heads and talk about something other than what stage of grief they were in. Spencer was glad that Ollie had approached him first, otherwise he wouldn’t have met her or even know she existed. A text from Penelope brought him back to reality and he sighed at his phone when he read it.

“I have to go, we got a case” He said, annoyed.

Ollie tried to mask her disappointment with an airy laugh, “Oh those fucking serial killers, so rude of them to interrupt our conversation”

Come on, Spencer. Say you want to see her again. Maeve doesn’t mind. Faster than he could process, the words came tumbling out of his mouth. “I want to see you again” He declared; eyes wide, afraid he came on too intense.

“Well, what a coincidence. I want that too.” She smirked, thanking the gods for all the love they seemed to be showing her today. She took a bright pink sharpie from her drawer and scribbled her number on Spencer’s palm. “Please, don’t wash your hand before you save the number”  She hoped she hadn’t blown her cover as the chilliest most relaxed person ever with that one sentence that sounded like she was begging him to call her. He took out a little white card from his bad and handed it to her.

‘SSA Dr. Spencer Reid. Behavioral Analysis Unit’. Two phone numbers were displayed along with the FBI logo. Which made Ollie look up to question it.

“Bottom one is my personal line; top one is the work phone” He anticipated the question.  

The shit eating grin he was wearing did not go unnoticed by her friends back at the BAU, but he brushed them and their raised eyebrows right off. This whole thing with Ollie was his to keep. At least for the moment.

That night, even though spent in a dingy motel a few minutes out of Redding, Pennsylvania, Spencer slept better than he had in 278 days. He wasn’t an outgoing person at all, he didn’t ask for numbers, he didn’t agree to have coffee in some stranger’s office, he didn’t text bright pink numbers sloppily written on his hand. But maybe the way they met was a sign that he should, maybe, no matter the outcome, he wanted to see where this led. Not even sure what this was.

Here goes nothing.

“Hey, this is Spencer. I didn’t wash my hand” sent at 2:13 am.

“I mean, I did. Just not until I texted you” sent at 2:13 am.

Back at her own apartment, Ollie made a mental note to go visit Lia so she could hear all about the handsome man she had met. Following the advice her therapist had given her, she took out the notepad she had devoted to the letters she wrote her and started writing what she would give anything to be able to say to her face.

Alright so I can’t stop thinking of RVB Zero and how much potential it has so I wanna rework it a bit to work better.

So first I’m gonna talk about the new characters and what I’d change before breaking down the individual episodes for critique and suggested rewrites. At this point, I’ve only seen up to episode 4, Encounter. So spoilers till that ep. 

West - Honestly great! He doesn’t have a ton of character, but what he has is solid. He works very well as the gruff, no-nonsense leader who’s a tiny bit of a dad.

Raymond - Also great! He’s the most classic RVB character, as he’s an underdog who’s not the best at fighting, but has a lot of heart. My fav new character, right next to Tiny.

One - I want to change her to 2nd in command and drop the whole “can’t work within a team” thing. Keep the confidence and slight rudeness, but drop all the lines referencing anti-teamwork. It hasn’t factored into the story so far, One has been successfully working as part of the team for all the episodes. This would make her dynamic with Axel more interesting, being in a higher position of power. Especially considering how her healthy relationship with her dad contrasts with East and West’s relationship. This would reinforce the tension with East, since One now has an actual position of power over her. Also, she should have the exact same powers as Zero, but maybe less powerful. This would help foreshadow that reveal, and help us understand how the enhancements work. While One is a bit of a shit, and thinks she knows best, she’s willing to take the fall when her ideas fail or get them in trouble.

Axel - Imma be honest: totally forgot he was One’s adopted dad until I rewatched the episodes prepping for this. You could drop it totally, as it gets a bit redundant with West and East’s relationship, but I think there’s more fun in working with it. Also, if One’s 2nd in command and Axel isn’t insecure about it at all? Instantly makes him a more likable guy. I also think he parallels to Wash very well (bit of a kid at heart, weapons guy, team dad, emotional heart) so we’re gonna expand on that too.

East - Her and One’s relationship is the driving force of conflict within the strike team. With the changes made to One, East can stay pretty much unchanged. Before they were too similar. Now, with One being abrasive but willing to work together, and East being more reserved and distant, they’re great foils for each other. Also she parallels early Carolina, which I love (speed is her ability, prefers working alone, competitive as hell, dad runs team)

Villains: On characterization, they’re all good! Villains are allowed to be a bit more shallow, and they all seem to have understandable motives for what they’re doing: Zero wants revenge and power, Phase wants revenge especially against West, and Diesel just seems like he’s having fun. I do want to change Zero’s power tho, with Phase already having a teleport with a cool gimmick, and Diesel having a strength/tank ability, Zero should have a unique ability. Maybe gravity because of the sword? It would allow him some cool movement tricks while still being visually distinct from Diesel and Phase’s abilities. Or something inspired by his “ghost” line from Duo.

EP 1: Viper

The Good: The introduction to the villains and their abilities was amazing. I love Phase’s knife and it’s honestly one of the coolest things I’ve seen in the show. And the intro to the Strike team? Hilarious. Great character work. You can tell that One and Axel are close, that Raymond is hesitant and new, East and One have a very competitive relationship, and West is the tough love dad.

The Bad: Don’t violate the 180 camera rule. The intro fight scene was cool, but the camera moved way too much and made it hard to keep track of everything happening. And with the new, shiny art style we need a bit more time to absorb what’s happening since the detail level went up. Also y’all healed Wash’s brain damage with a throwaway line, and then immediately fridged him? Not cool. I mean, if you wanted to show how tough the villains are, you already had them beat up Carolina.

Story Changes: - Zero gets name dropped this ep so we get a scene next ep where Axel recognizes his name. - Either replace Wash with a high ranking soldier and completely scrub him from the episode, or give a different reason why he can’t help, maybe exactly Carolina’s reason of “you’re recovering”. I’m not committing to totally removing Wash bc in Recovery Carolina’s line of “That I-that we thought was a medium risk asset” hints that Wash knew exactly what they were carrying and I’m excited to see where they take that. - Mainly I want scenes of Wash talking to Axel and expanding on his characterization as they are both Nice Boys Who Have Been Through It. - I also think a scene after we meet Strike where Axel asks Raymond “You like riding with East?” and Ray goes “You two stuck me with her on purpose!” and One goes “Yup!” all cheerfully. Just reinforce those team dynamics and friendships before it goes to shit!

EP 2: Recovery

The Good: The garage scene was perfect. Tiny is amazing, love her so much! And Axel got such great characterization during this ep. What a dork. West and Raymond also work super well together, their interactions are great.

The Bad:You know it’s a problem when the villains have a better dynamic than the heroes. The scene where Carolina explains all the strike member’s abilities and personalities? Bad. Also a little OOC for her. And redundant, since we also get Raymond asking West about East, and Axel’s explanation of the girls to Carolina.

Story Changes: - Have Axel, the emotional heart, waiting outside the recovery room for Carolina. Honestly, this isn’t that big, but I think it’d suit his character. - Carolina’s exposition is changed to solely history and abilities, no commenting on their personalities. Maybe East gets a little “has shown difficulty in working with others” but that’s it. The physical acting for these scenes really shines through, so let it stand alone. Even watching without sound, you can pick up that West is a no-nonsense leader, that Axel isn’t a flashy fighter but gets the job done, that East is fairly young and doesn’t take fighting seriously, and that One is willing to leave others behind if she thinks she can do it better. - For Carolina’s convo with One this ep about her “not willing to work on a team” either swap One with East or change it to “you need to listen to your team more. Don’t assume that you immediately now what’s best” - At the end of training, when Axel says “the guards were priority #1″ One should say “I knew you could handle it.” and Axel could respond with “Well, it’d be nice if you let me know that.” to show that One can work well as 2nd in command, but needs to communicate and stop assuming things. -Also should change Axel’s warning line about her enhancements to “Don’t push yourself. Remember what happened last time?” to enforce that this is a habit, and that while he cares about her, he’s not trying to boss her around as much. -Don’t reveal that East is West’s daughter until Raymond and West talk. That way, there’s a bit more emotional weight, and Ray’s line of “I was digging through the team files” makes more sense if Carolina doesn’t drop that info in the previous scene. - When Axel talks about the experiments East went through, he should mention that he was there for some of them. Dropping more foreshadowing for the Axel/Zero reveal! - Carolina drops Zero’s name in their convo, and we get a shot of Axel’s hand tightening on his weapon, showing the audience that the name means something to him, but we don’t know why.

EP 3: Duo

The Good: First 3rd of the ep? Really good. I love One being rude to Carolina, and then gaining a grudging respect. West and Raymond are, again, the best dynamic. How? I honestly have no idea. The car looks so stupid in the funniest way, I hate it but I love it. Also god yes Axel and Zero’s relationship is so wholesome and could be the best thing in this season. One’s warning call to the facility? The funniest shit. And Zero’s dialogue is hella cliched, but it works bc he’s obv such a dramatic bitch.

The Bad: HOLY HELL THE DIALOGUE. First, One and East’s fight? garbage. Very forced. Super hard to believe these two are real people. Carolina and West literally repeat the exact same line, less than 5 seconds apart. The dishwasher joke West makes does NOT at all work, it’s too tonally dissonant.

Story Changes: - Obv. need to change One and East’s convo. End it with “Without your power, you wouldn’t even be on this team!” East should storm off or almost attack One, requiring Axel to diffuse. - It’d also be really nice to get a line where One acknowledges that she went too far with that, but puts off apologizing to East. It’d be a nod that she’s good at reflecting and assessing, but too proud to actually take her words back. - I’d like to make Raymond more panicked when they find Wash. It’d help sell that he’s in bad shape and add more weight to “He’s got a heartbeat!” - Maybe re-work Phase and Zero’s conversation a bit. The dialogue is definitely not this season’s strong suit. - Pull Carolina’s “I’m just trying to help, East.” since it’s more impactful for East to storm off immediately and West says the line a couple seconds later. And change East’s dialogue to “You may be my CO, but don’t try to be my dad. Not after what you’ve done.” Or something similar. - For the dishwasher gag in the meeting, either pull it or double down. It’d work so much better if someone asks “Are you serious about this? Aren’t there more important things to discuss?” and West just deadpans. “This is of the upmost importance. If we can’t keep this base clean, how can we be expected to do anything else?!” and then Carolina clears her throat super loud and West goes “...Right. Rookie? Take it from here.” - Rework the “Carolina stay behind” dialogue. Even just a “Carolina. You’re still recovering. If you get hurt again, it’ll just be longer till you can take these bastards down. Keep an eye on Wash, will you?” I just couldn’t get behind the wording of “we need you here. With wash” It sounds like every cliched “woman must stay behind while the manly men save everyone!” Might be personal preference but just ew. - Add a scene where One notices Axel being a bit off (bc he’s worried about Zero being a part of the bad guy team) and she asks if he’s okay. He brushes her off, says its nothing. She goes “alright, i trust you.” - Maybe make the flashback a bit more apparent? There was a moment in the middle where I questioned whether or not it was a flashback. Again, could be a me problem.

EP 4: Encounter

The Good: The fight scenes continue to be absolute standouts. The varied environments, the movement, the dynamics on point. Wish we could’ve saw a bit more from Axel, but as is the scene worked well. The framing of the ep was good too, cutting between the mission and the fallout. And Ray, resident coward, immediately squaring up without a thought after West got injured? *chef’s kiss*. THAT is good character development. THAT is an amazing way to establish their relationship without telling us outright. Go feral, my boy! And Tiny and Raymond’s convo was so cute. I love how, despite what he says, Ray is there for his team and always willing to help. Carolina and One’s convo was also pretty decent. It got a bit long and over-explainy on Carolina’s end, but there were some pretty good moments.

The Bad: The fight after the mission failure was SO over-acted. Too much motion, to many camera angles. It changed what should have been tense arguments to hilarious melodrama. This has been a consistent problem, but it REALLY affects this scene in particular. And the second Axel enters the scene it just immediately goes downhill.

Story Changes: - Add a line from West in the beginning scene like “I’ll cut them off!” to explain why he isn’t in the car too. This also means it’s not as out-of-nowhere when West shows up to trash the car. - One should call out Axel instead of East. If she’s his daughter, she should be able to tell when he’s acting off. And she would have an easier time connecting the dots between Axel and Zero. - Instead of “I trusted you.” One should say “You lied to me.” 1) He’s her dad. One lie isn’t gonna break her total trust. 2) This would imply it’s the first time he’s lied to her, adding more weight to the whole situation 3) It’s way more accusatory and less cliched (if only a bit) - Add in a “One, wait!” bc I am a sucker for it and we could hear the guilt in his voice, rather than the weird scene where the girls make him spin around by bumping into him. - It’d also be nice if Ray stayed back for a bit before leaving, so we got a bit of his feelings on the matter. I mean, obviously he cares a lot about West, but does he blame Axel for not being there to help? It’d be nice to know!

TL;DR The best parts of the episodes are the fight scenes, and when they focus on the fun team dynamics. The worst parts are dialogue (mostly the serious bits) and over-animating, as this takes away from the drama.

I don’t mind the cheesy villains, but that may not be the case for everyone.

The best part of RVB has always been the rag-tag found family dynamics. While the fight scenes are cool, they have always been supplemental to the real meat of the show. The writers are trying something new with the whole “actual family” but you have got to focus on and develop these relationships if you want fans to care.

Mostly, I see a lot of potential in these characters, but there are GLARING issues in this season that are holding them back.

I have a myriad of characters who ill try to list out and give brief descriptions of, aether is technically my main character and some of the characters who are up for question are dead in canon. 13- sweet, optimistic, always looks on the brightside and tries to see the good in others. Little heater, understands that sometimes fighting is the only option

16- lively, very loose and relax, can get serious when needed though, always making jokes and trying to lighten up the mood

19- a bit more, mellow. Still quite lively and childish, but with two signifigant-others you have to settle down sometimes

16- lively, more stern than akrano and kinda worried, but ultimatly also very loose and bright

16- serious, seemingly colder towards everyone, gets along great with psycho-lops, makes him new eye-patches to pass time, actually just very monotone and blank most of the time, although she does care

17- quiet, intense eyes, always sounds vaugly confused when he speaks, deep voice lol, likes to train, doesnt understand barks need to tease others, likes to read to the children

20- quiet, intense eyes still, more so nervous sounding, slightly paranoid, cluastrophobic and cant stand dusty places, usually in his house or at the docks, doesnt really go anywhere else

Strawhats, Social Media:

Luffy: Has a twitter account thats mostly videos of him 1) being in places he should be 2) doing things he shouldn’t be doing and 3) having a great time doin crimes with his friends in places they shouldn’t be. He also posts whatever dumb nightblogging-esque thing pops in his head.

Nami: Has like 20 different blogs neatly organized by aesthetics, technical drafting, stealing tips, gardening…. Lots of people go to her for advice but she gives the worst answers and jokingly charges them for it. Probably has run some serious scams but no one has been able to connect it to her yet. Does a lot of Vines w Usopp and Luffy.  

THIS GOT LONG more under cut

Zoro: Mainly Workout Instagram thats just shots of his sick muscles with really bad puns as captions, plus videos of him doing tricks and training. Occasionally peppers in silly selfies with Nami and Usopp when they drag him shopping/clubbing, or taking Chopper places where a kid p shouldn’t be and getting yelled at for it by Franky and Sanji. Doesn’t use social media all that much/posts in mass quantities then goes silent for months. Has accounts only to bully Sanji n Nami (and support the rest).  

Usopp: Has and is a master of like, every platform. Particularly tumblr, youtube and tiktok/vine. His main content is art, doing gadget/crafting challenges, and sharpshooting tricks but his vines are amazing. On top of being genuine comedy genius he creates amazing practical effects that are p much magic. Has an ongoing series where he and Luffy try to break into Sanji’s house to figure out who his boyfriend is.

Sanji: Of course does a cooking youtube channel that consists of how to make the best of a low budget/little resources as well as showing off how fancy he can go (he likes to try out sculptural foods followers send him even tho its not his main focus). The cost effective videos are full of him being bluntly affirmative and reassuring about being in shitty situations on top of instructions. In the fancier/show off videos he gets way more silly and romantic- often having the others on to banter with him while he works. 

Chopper, Robin and Nami are most often on for the silly ones, taste testing and letting him show them flourishing tricks. Robin likes to find the history and cultural impact of dishes. 

Franky, Zoro and Usopp join in for the sculptural work and shit gets wild. (Luffy is only allowed to help out with taking video because he can reach some cool angles and it keeps his hands far away from the ingredients. Sanji only lets Zoro help cause he’s so good at precision cutting, Franky has to stand between them frequently. Usopp does all the actual design work and likes to explain the planning process while Sanji makes the parts) 

90% of any profits he makes goes to soup kitchens and abuse shelters

Chopper: Isn’t super big on social media outside of keeping up with friends but likes to post actually-researched mental and physical health tips as well as positivity! Has the cutest aesthetic blog, really likes Pinterest 

Robin: Similar to Chopper, but also likes to create Puzzles using multiple platforms and her appearances around her friends content a la Carmine Santiago. Does a history podcast with Franky thats very much in the vein of Sawbones where she explains some wild shit thats happened, or weird folklore and Franky pokes fun at it. 

Franky: If Mythbusters and How Its Made was combined into one very powerful very enthusiastic dad! Builds the craziest machines, has Robin Usopp and Chopper come help him with the real crazy science-y stuff. Would also have a very fun time with a Monster Factory style gaming blog, rotating out guests for who he thinks would hate it the most. 

Brook: Does not know how and never will but Robin takes some aesthetic vids of him playing violin. Has a huge following, tells Robin to tell them to drink their milk. 

Other, Music:

Ace: Classic rock junky spotted– but his main genres are old school Rockabilly and that good Folk Western. For a long time had a walkman that was only Johnny Cash albums on repeat until Sabo got tired of it. Does own a harmonica specifically for campfire tunes. Knows his aesthetic. 

Social Media: Would also be a fun outdoor survivalist in the vein of Coyote Peterson, running around with Luffy and Sabo as they do dumb shit for the sake of education. They’ll bully Marco or Law into being their on site doctors but they both often refuse to treat them until they’ve suffered appropriately. Does a lot of hiking/rock climbing and gets beautiful pics between survivalist tips 

Marco: Island time, all the time. Reggae, Jimmy Buffet, Billy Idol, and so much dad rock. It’s the only thing keeping him sane. Sea shanties are of course a must but he leans more towards war songs and battle calls. 

Social Media: Has some actually really popular platforms but never shows his face or gives out information so no one including his friends knows who it is. Does insane birds eye view photography, but would be most known for his anonymous Etiquette/Advice blog that’s incredibly helpful under five layers of dry humor. 

Thatch: SO weak for romantic pop ballads, has a playlist of all Eurovision songs that he updates every year, Marco keeps finding him the weirdest Scandinavian scream, metal and German discotheque to test his limits but Thatch Has None. 

Social Media: Does Gordon Ramsey style food reviews between pictures of cool swords and those marbled cake vids. Gets in so many arguments with Sanji and it’s hard to tell if they’re joking or being serious. Is in on Usopp and Luffys game, keeps hinting that he knows who it is but wont tell. 

Sabo: ELECTRO SWING and knows how to dance to it– has a wide variety that he just puts on shuffle but his main collection includes Musicals/Show tunes, all flavors of Punk and Metal. Likes anything with a quartet/harmonies. 

Social Media: Of course has a very effective and active activism platform focused on rooting out cover ups and back dealings, but also got roped into doing a Buzzfeed Unsolved video series with Koala and Ace whenever they have time. Every one loves watching him get Spooked while Ace n Koala are perfectly reasonable/rile him up. 

Koala: Switches rapidly between sugar pop/sunshine songs to good ol emo like IMAX, BVB and MCR. MIKA stan, as we all should be. Loves narrative lyrics and celtic hymns/highland folk ballads like Twa Corbies. 

Social Media: Journalism + Fact Checking platform that explains more effective grassroots community changes. ALSO has a rocking cosplay blog as well as special effects makeup that she does with Ivan. Hack n Robin are their frequent models.

Love your blog💕 what would you say to the ppl who think GRRM didn’t write Fire and Blood as a precaution/warning about the Targaryens? IMHO it’s pretty blatant that he’s anti-Targ restoration but I see Targ fans saying the contrary and using quotes he’s said about relating to Dany in the aspects of not having a home, etc. Plus the fact that he’s made a whole book about them and they’re having their own prequel show (😩🙄).

About Targaryen restoration, I always wondered WHY and HOW so many people in the fandom firmly believe that ASOIAF is mainly about House Targaryen and its restoration. And because of that belief I had to read words like these: “The notion that Daenerys Targaryen and her House are not the collective heroes of this saga is ignorant to the point of idiocy.” Or I had to watch and listen to certain very popular spoiler youtuber saying that “if GOT doesn’t end in Targaryen restoration, the story has no sense”.  This person even claimed several times in his videos that GRRM himself has affirmed that ASOIAF is in fact about House Targaryen and its restoration. And I always was like: HOW? WHERE?

Apparently GRRM once said that ASOIAF was about “the return to glory of a great family”, so people immediately thought that that great family was House Targaryen…     

I don’t have the original source for that, but if GRRM has specifically said that ASOIAF is about “the return to glory of a great family”, that family is no other than HOUSE STARK; because even if he doesn’t use the exact same words, GRRM has actually said several times over the years that THE STARKS are the heart/center/main characters/heroes of the story. And this affirmation has been supported by Bryan Cogman and even D&D in several interviews/events. 

About GRRM relating to Dany and House Targaryen, let’s read those quotes:  

From an early age George was aware of a lost fortune on his mother’s side of the family, the Brady family, who once owned a successful construction business, a dock and a grand house, all lost in the Great Depression of 1929. “I had a walk past that house every day on my way from the projects on 1st Street to 5th Street, and it’s like, well, that used to be our dock, that used to be our house. Now we don’t have a house, we don’t have a yard, but I had always had the sense of, yeah I’m poor, but I come from royalty, or I come from greatness that somehow was destroyed by the depression, by corrupt politicians, by things like that. So maybe that gives me a little of the emotional temperament to understand somebody like Daenerys Targaryen.

But when he wasn’t promoting Fire & Blood Vol. I, this is what he said:

The house where my mother had grown up … the house her father Thomas had built (…) the Brady house. But of course it wasn’t. Someone else lived there now, someone we did not know.

I walked past that house twice a day, five days a week, for nine years. And every time I stepped outside my front door, I saw the dock across the street. The dock was surrounded by a chain link fence, but sometimes my friends and I would climb it. From the dock it was easier to reach the oily rocks along the shore when the tide was out. There was a watchman on the dock, though, and if he saw us he’d come out of his shed and shout at us. “Get out of here, you kids,” he’d yell. “You got no business here.” Yes, I do, part of me always wanted to shout back, you’re the one who’s got no business, my great-grandfather BUILT this dock. I was a shy kid, though, so I never said a word.

And then I would walk to school; we lived in First Street, my school was on Fifth Street, I would walk to school and I would pass the house that the Bradys had owned. I would pass it twice a day going and coming from school. This big house my mother had been born in and her family had grown up in, but had lost. And other people lived in what had been our house. And I think it always gave me this, this sense of a lost golden age of, you know, now we were poor and we lived in the projects and we lived in an apartment. We didn’t even have a car, but God we were… once we were royalty! It gave me a certain attraction to those kinds of stories of I don’t know, fallen civilizations and lost empires and all of that.

As you can see, GRRM took inspiration from that part of his personal story and applied it to Dany and House Targaryen. Thanks to that part of his personal story, GRRM can understand Dany to a certain extend (So maybe that gives me a little of the emotional temperament to understand somebody like Daenerys Targaryen); but he is not Dany, he hasn’t dedicate his entire life to re-take his family lost properties with fire and blood. 

And at this point I think is relevant to state that a house is not a home.  

Now, about Fire & Blood Vol. I. After finished reading it I said this:

And about the Targaryen having their own books (Fire & Blood Vol. I and II) and their own prequel show based on Fire & Blood, let me tell you a couple of things:

Last month GRRM attended an event in London #GRRMLive organized by Harper Voyager UK, and Adam Whitehead, a friend of GRRM, was present in the event and reported this:

Confirmation that Fire & Blood was written by accident: originally it was sidebar material for World of Ice & Fire that got out of control. He wrote hundreds of thousands of words in a few weeks and scared his publishers and had to stop so Elio & Linda could compress it down.

And the first prequel show actually ordered by HBO, that is already in post-production, is not about Targaryens and it has no dragons:

What’s it about? Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. Also, after the news of the “Targaryen prequel”, GRRM himself said this: I do want to point out that “moving closer to a pilot order” is NOT the same thing as “getting a pilot order.” 

So that’s it Anon. GRRM is writing a series of SEVEN BOOKS and THE STARKS are the heart/center/main characters/heroes of the story. Meanwhile Fire and Blood was apparently an accident made of sidebar material…

Class Reunion - Sam x fem!reader pt 3

Summary: Sam and Dean hit up a case in a town they lived in for Sam's senior year of high school. While on a supply run, Sam runs into reader who he dated that year. Reader invites him to the class reunion. Sam is hesitant but the case leads to the reunion. SPARKS FLY BITCHES

Jared led the brothers into the kitchen, "Mom, they're here!" He turned back towards the two, "You guys want something to drink. We have water and blood."

Dean leaned forward, "Excuse me?"

"Jared, stop telling people the cranberry juice is blood!" (Y/N) scolded as she walked into the living room, wiping her hands on her apron.

"Hey guys, thanks for coming." She grinned.

Sam smiled, lost in her eyes, then gasped when Dean subtly elbowed him in the ribs. Dean looked at the flowers, then her.

"Oh uh, these are for you." Sam cleared his throat, holding up the bouquet of roses.

"Aww, how sweet." She took the flowers and inhaled deeply, "I'll put these in water. Jared, can you entertain while I finish dinner?" She looked at him pointedly. Jared rolled his eyes.

"Yes, mother."

"Thank you, son." She winked at Sam and went back into the kitchen.

"I'll come with," Sam said hurriedly, following her into the kitchen.

Jared and Dean stood their awkwardly. The kid was only 17 and was definitely Dean's height, maybe taller. Dean cleared his throat and smiled tightly.

"Uh..." Jared said, "You play video games?"

Dean rolled his shoulders and smirked, "I've been known to be the top player of Space Invaders in a few arcades."

Jared breathed out a laugh, "You play Bloodborne?"

"Blood-what?" Dean asked, narrowing his eyes.

"Bloodborne. It's a game where you kill monsters, like werewolves and stuff." Jared explained.

Dean shrugged, "I could give it a go."

(Y/N) watched Sam walk in, she smiled and filled a vase with water to house the roses.

"He's a hoot, isn't he?" She said, placing a hand on her hip, "Giving a run for my money. But then again, so did you." She smirked.

"Is it weird that I am extremely nervous? I don't know what to say to him. What would I even say?" He said in a hushed tone, "What does he like? What does he not like?"

"Sam." She said, cutting off his ramble. She slowly took his hands in hers, gauging his reaction. His shoulders relaxed and his breathing got a little easier.

"Look, it's normal that you're nervous. But Jared's a good kid. You can ask him anything you want. Get to know him tonight and however long you're staying." She said, a twinkle in her eye. He had forgotten that for a moment about his life. That after they killed this monster, they would go back on the road. But this was a new situation. If this thing was going after people in their class, her life could be at stake.

"We got a button-masher." Jared leaned back against the couch.

"Zip it, kid, I'm winning." Dean said, looking extremely concentrated while he killed a gangly looking werewolf with a huge machete thing. He killed in and grinned at Jared.

"And that's how it's done." He handed Jared the controller. Jared chuckled and rolled his eyes, killing another enemy with a little more finesse than Dean's repeated duck and roll maneuver. There was a comfortable silence between the two beside the sound of gore coming from the TV.

"So... Uh... You knew my mom in high school?" Jared asked, a troubling look in his eyes.

"I met her a couple times, yeah." Dean said, looking at the boy out of the corner of his eye.

"Was she... Was she a good person?" Jared asked.

Dean fully looked at him then. The kid had his head down, his brown hair hiding his eyes. Dean could almost think of the times when Sam looked exactly like that.

"Is this about.. your uh.. your dad?" He didn't know how to handle what seemed like a touchy subject.

"No," Jared looked up, "Well, uh... Yeah I guess. She told me that he didn't know. And I guess I understand. And she's been great. But..." He trailed off.

"You wish you had your dad around." Dean finished the sentence. Jared only nodded. Dean put a hand on Jared's back.

"Look, Jared. Your mom has done the best she could. And I think you turned out pretty okay. You're not runnin' the roads and getting in trouble." Dean said.

"How do you know?" Jared asked.

"I'm FBI." Dean pulled the lapel of his jacket to reveal his badge (a fake badge, but a badge), "We know everything." He closed his jacket.

"My point is, keep your chin up. Who knows, maybe your dad is closer than you think." He smiled. Jared smiled and nodded, a twinkle in his eye.

"Thanks."

"You're welcome." Dean nodded.

"Dinner!" (Y/N) called. Jared shoved at Dean's arm.

"Beat ya there." He smirked just like Sam would.

"Like Hell." Dean scrambled to get up, grabbing Jared in a loose headlock, ruffling his hair.

Sam and (Y/N) were putting dishes on the table when Dean and Jared came barging in, shoving and pushing at each other to get a seat.

"Boys." (Y/N) put her hands on her hips.

"Sorry." Jared and Dean said in unison. Sam gave his brother a pointed look. Everyone started eating, which meant Sam scrambled to try and talk to the kid.

"So, Jared." He cleared his throat, "Your mom told me some stuff but uh, where are you going to school?"

Jared took a drink of his water before speaking, "Uh, I'm still a senior right now. But uh, I want to go into history and folklore. I think it's interesting. Or law."

Sam smiled, "That's great. I actually went to Stanford before..." He trailed off, "Before going into law enforcement."

Dean smirked, "Followed in the Family Business, right, Sammy?"

"Family Business?" (Y/N) asked, "I think I remember you telling me something about that. Wasn't your dad also in the FBI?"

Sam nodded, "Yeah." He lied, "Yeah, he was. We're what they call Legacies."

"Cool." Jared smiled, "Do you get any cool stuff?"

Dean tutted and leaned back, pulling a silver pistol out of his waistband, "How about this cool?"

"That's awesome." Jared went to touch the handle.

"Don't touch that!" (Y/N) and Sam said together. Jared looked between the two, mainly at Sam, then retracted his hands.

"Sorry, I guess." The rest of the dinner went without incident. Jared had taken a liking to Dean quickly. Which made Sam oddly jealous.

Later in the night after Jared went to bed, the three adults sat in the living room.

"He's a good kid, (Y/N)." Dean said, sitting on the couch next to her. He had just dropped off their duffle bags upstairs.

"I try my best." She smiled, sipping a glass of red wine, "It wasn't easy. But I think I did okay."

Sam smiled, "Took after his old man, huh? Law and history."

She shook her head and chuckled, "Yeah, trust me. I didn't cry at all when he told me."

Dean looked at Sam, then back at (Y/N).

"So uh, we hate to mix work and pleasure, trust me. But uh," He licked his lips, "Could you tell us anything about the murders happening in town?"

She sighed and sat back, holding the glass in both hands, "I don't know much. I just know they it was awful. Witicker has been keeping it under wraps because of the reunion. Says that it's random. But after today's attacks... I'm not so sure."

Sam leaned forward in the chair he was sitting in, "Did you know about the prank from homecoming our senior year?"

"Oh god." She groaned, taking a long gulp of the wine, "Those assholes. So every prank had to go through student council for approval. Well I was out sick for that meeting and it went through. The kid, Daniel was his name, he was kind of a lonely guy. Nice as can be, but was an outcast. He was the water boy for the football team. I was told they were just going to dump Gatorade on him during half time. But no, they pants him in front of everyone. I was mortified, I couldn't imagine how Danny felt. I tried to talk to him at school the next Monday but he dropped out. No one saw him again." She looked up, eyes widening, "You don't think Danny's doing this, do you?"

"Well, right now he's the main suspect." Dean said seriously.

She sighed, finishing the wine, "I would go to the school board about canceling the reunion, because obviously he's targeting people. But as always, nobody listens to me."

"Actually, that might be a way to catch him." Sam said, "We keep everyone in the gym, no one gets lost. We catch the guy and... Do whatever's necessary." Sam avoided eye contact. (Y/N) groaned and rubbed her head.

"I'm gonna go lie down." She stood up, "Guest rooms are upstairs, second door on your right." She set her glass on the coffee table, leaving it for the morning, "Night guys." She made her way up the stairs.

Dean looked at Sam, waiting until (Y/N) was out of earshot.

"Looks like Danny wanted so power, so he found a vampire and turned." Sam said.

"Yeah well, I'd be pissed for 18 years too. Small towns always have the biggest bullying problem." Dean leaned back.

Sam bit his cheek, rubbing his hands together, "You don't think... Jared gets bullied, do you?"

"That kid?" Dean scoffed, "Nah, he's fine. Takes after his uncle." He smirked.

Sam glared, "Yeah about that-"

"Oh come on, don't tell me you're jealous." Dean stood and made his way towards the kitchen. Sam followed, grabbing the wine glass from the table.

"What if I am?" Sam put the glass in the sink.

Dean turned and held his hands out, "Because there's no point. I'm just getting along with him."

"But he's my son!" Sam whisper-yelled.

"Then stop asking him the parent stuff and just talk to him like a normal person." Dean scoffed, "You sound like Dad."

Sam clenched his jaw, "I am nothing like dad."

Dean nodded his head to the side, "Coulda fooled me." He shouldered his way passed his brother and out of the kitchen. Sam leaned on the counter and shook his head. After his cool-down he rubbed his face and went to upstairs to find his room. He found his room easily, seeing as it was the only one with the lights off and the door open. That is until he looked down the hall and saw another door open.

He crept down the hall to the door. He pushed it open more and saw a typical boy room. There was dirty laundry piled up in the hamper in the corner. There was a desk riddled with papers and books. Sam pulled out his phone and used the light from the screen to look at the titles. There was a deep red, leather book on Romanian myths and legends. On the walls he saw movie posters of classics like Dracula and Young Frankenstein. If only this kid knew.

A small sigh brought Sam's attention to the bed in the corner of the room. Jared was sleeping on his back, one arm under his head, the other loosely grasping his phone. Sam carefully took the phone and set it on the bedside table. He grabbed the covers and pulled them higher to Jared chin. Sam smiled proudly, lightly brushing Jared's hair off his forehead. Jared smiled in his sleep, turned to sleep on his side. Sam slowly walked back to the door, looking in one last time.

"Goodnight, Jared." He whispered and shut the door. When he turned around, (Y/N) was right behind him. He jumped, his heart in his throat. She was smiling at him, arms crossed over her chest as she leaned against the wall.

"I was uh." Sam said, wiping the tears that had formed in his eyes away.

"Save the excuses, big boy. It's fine. It was cute. A little weird, but cute." She hummed.

Sam let out a little laugh, "I guess you're right." He licked his lips, "So uh, when should we tell him?" He asked, his voice shaking.

She bit her lip, thinking a moment, "What about tomorrow after the Reunion. I have to set up during the day, Dean can scout the place. It's a Saturday, Jared doesn't have school. Maybe you could stay here with him, get to know him better." She let her arms fall to her sides, "Then after the Reunion and after bad guy getting, we can tell him. Together." She suggested.

Sam nodded, "That's a great idea."

She nodded, leaning up and pressing a kiss to his cheek, "Goodnight, Sammy." She turned to walk away. Sam grabbed her wrist, out of instinct, he wasn't sure. She turned back and looked at him. Sam's lips twitched up from a smile to a grin as he looked at her, thinking of all the good memories with her after such a terrible year. He leaned down slowly, looking from her lips to her eyes, giving her plenty of time to pull away if she wanted to. But she didn't. When their lips met, there was a feeling of serenity that passed between them. (Y/N) slowly slid her hands up his chest and to his neck, locking her fingers in his hair. He grabbed her by the hips and pulled her closer. Boldly, he lifted her up. She wrapped her legs around his waist, surprised and a little turned on by his strength.

He walked blindly to her room at the end of the hall, walking and closing it with his foot. She tugged a little on his hair, pulling a groan from his throat. She pulled away and giggled, "Hush now, don't wanna get caught like last time."

"Oh that cop was bored with nothing else to do than bust two kids on the motel roof." He joked, laying her on her bed. Her chest was heaving, her robe was coming undone, revealing more and more. Sam climbed into the bed, kissing his way up.

Sam fell besides her, panting heavily with a large grin on his face. (Y/N) turned on her side, leaning on her arm.

"Haven't had that much fun in a while." She hugged and giggled.

Sam laughed softly, pulling her closer to him. She draped her arm over his stomach and hummed at how warm he was.

"Sammy?" She whispered, a yawn soon followed. He yawned after her, "Yeah?"

"I missed you." She pressed a soft kiss to his chest.

"I missed you too." Sam said, kissing the top of her head. Slowly they both drifted off to sleep.

Rhapsode Reacts: RWBY Volume 3

Hey guys, Rhapsode here. So I’ve been on the record numerous times saying I haven’t watched the internet series RWBY. I haven’t. However, I have a rather close mutual @remnantoforario who tells me about most of the series and characters. Seriously, I basically have experienced the plot through osmosis. Now me and remnant work on a lot of fanfiction stuff and general discussions of video games and manga. And highly suggest anyone who wants a more in depth look at RWBY to please check him out. He’s great.

Now due to the fact he has basically told me the series up this point, its kinda been a bit frustrating when I forget something and ask him to reiterate. So I decided to knuckle down and watch some of the series.

I helped remnant get a non RWBY fan opinion, by basically live-blogging him in our PMs. And I thought I had some level of humorous reactions and Remnant had some witty observations to my reactions.

Anyway, if you didn’t catch it the first time, I must repeat, I’m not coming at this from the perspective of a fan. I have very little emotional or personal enjoyment going in the series up to this point. If I say something that offends you as a fan, I’m sorry in advance.

With that out of the way, let’s dive in:

Oh that’s a sweet scene of Ruby at her mother’s grave.

Why would you start Team RWBY’s preliminary fight in the middle of it?

the Vytal Festival feels like it should be reversed: you should start with 1, then go to 2, then for your finals, 4. Or just do a solid 4 v 4 all tournament

Remnantoforario: I dont know what the purpose of the tournament is, or why anyone would want to participate. There is no prize 

Me: Bragging rights I guess. But the whole point of the festival is to celebrate peace. Lets celebrate piece with a bunch of kids beating each other up .

Ruby has a line of "we did it?" like she was surprised. Was that a concern? 

Like I understand the festival has been built up since the second volume, but there's a reason most good tournament arcs ease you into the first round. Its to reaffirm character motivation and actually show you what a fight would look like 

  I do appreciate some of the “show don't tell” moments like the one girl using a heat crystal in her skate board to free her teammate

But usually even if the first round is jobbers, they're at least presented as a threat. I never really got that. The tide seemed more and Rwby's favor, but I can't tell if that was always the case because we started in the middle of the fight

the pacing just feels like you can't handle the story, so it wants to get to the fight scenes to keep your attention 

Emerald is actually really funny, holy shit 

“How can they be so happy?” And “It’s the heiress and the bimbo” 

Still Weiss and Yang, better savor this duo while I can 

Neo’s gothic Lolita is cute. Though I feel like their match should’ve gotten a focus 

Like I mean not an episode but if they started with the instant eliminations of 1v1, I could easily see this cool intro of Rwby has met Emerald, Mercury, and Cinder, but then is shocked at who this fourth member even is 

OK I feel like the scene with Rwby and JNPR should’ve happened before the first round.  Given Nora’s rant would actually tie to Ruby’s whole “we won?” Surprise

“Cinder: Even if you know how the story ends that doesn’t make it any less fun to watch.” I’d agree with you if you know the story wasn’t Rwby. And it’s not really that fun to watch a bunch of fighting with no weight.

OK team JNPR vs team BRNZ is actually a much better introduction to the tournament than Rwby vs Abrn

We actually see how the field is chosen and we actually get some genuine strategy and coordination. And before all this we actually get some motivation about how the characters feel going into this battle

Me: OK why are these not the protagonists and why was this not episode one?

Remnantoforario: questions for the writers 

I got admit I’m not very much of a fan of melee weapons that also turn into guns and just kind of makes the purpose of melee fighters and ranged fighters pointless 

Logically it makes sense that if you’re making a weapon you do want it to have multiple functionality but at the same time it kind of makes a lot of that fighting less fun 

I mean what do you want to see more a team complete each other or just one person who can just do everything with the right weapon?

  Ehh OK the team meeting joke is running a tad too long

Okay, that was what I was mentioning before... Just cut out Nora with missiles. I feels more like a give and take as well as more unique to have that moment with her slamming on the ground 

“Crow Bar.” Oh you go to the corner for that pun.

OK that joke with Weiss and telling Indigo to beat up Neptune was timed and delivered really bad 

Also port makes a point that Sun is from Vacuo. Wouldn’t it be interesting if the leader or any membr of Indigo actually did know Sun from Vacuo?

I say that because no member of team Indigo has said anything, and it would at least add something unique to this fight

OK I have to bring up the weird use of western cartoon comedy

Neptune running up the mountain it’s super speed is kind of funny but this is also a fight I’m supposed to take seriously 

Nora and Ruby kind of get away with it given their powers but Neptune just ran up a mountain like it was nothing

What is the tone here?

Sage went out like a bitch 

you know if you wanted to eliminate someone to make me feel for this team being in trouble why didn’t you just eliminate Neptune? 

OK scarlet’s scene actually really works 

That nut joke didn’t. Again, tone? 

Me: Why would you sacrifice the two characters we don’t know anything about just to do Neptunes stupid joke?

Remnant: COMEDY 

OK this fight was bad 

Me: I get the idea indigo was a bunch of jobbers so you decided to play the comedy angle. OK, well then tone down the serious rock music, turn down the cartoon physics

Remnant: For reference. That was a post Monty fight 

I agree with Qrow, that was a mess

okay introduction to Winter is pretty good. Shame we don't really get that "Novice victory" vibe from their fight. Maybe if it last for more than 8 minutes and didn't start from the middle... 

okay see, I don't mid Winter and Qrow having a fight in the middle of the square as it helps serve as an introduction to the characters and flexes their strength

though Im also starting to notice something else that bugs me in the fights, no banter or introspection or comments

its just fight moves 

like there's times that's god, DBZ did it tons of times when its just Goku making "Hiyah" noises but there was still a bit of time to get in a line that both broke up the action and highlighted how two characters felt or through thought was able to give us a peek into their head

watching rwby fights makes me think, "This be better as a video game" 

so... does no woman in this world wear a bra? 

 Ironwood: “If you were one of my men, I'd have you shot!”

Okay, that can't be legal

Ironwood is kinda becoming my favorite character 

He's a flawed human being, and the narrative shows that, but it also shows he has a point 

Okay, yeah I see what you mean, all this Fall stuff is happening in the background which is nice, but there's no real plot with the tournament 

Okay Mercury and Emerald vs Coco and Yatsuhashi is actually really good 

not much character, but its actually more intimidating seeing how strong these two are. Wish the music had a bit more ambiance 

Okay, that's an interesting plot point. Qrow explaining how beating one high profile criminal hasn't stopped crime. And the fact there is zero crime is concerning and relating it back to Ironwood

Wow, its almost when you just slow down and lt characters breath and talk to each other and have them be characters without shoving in a fight scene, its pretty good

Why is team Cardin fighting a non faunus team? Feels like a waste of characters 

disappointing that Ciel doesn't know Penny is a robot

mainly because the way its queued up with Ciel seemed like she was only spending time with Penny because ordered and her attention to the schedule makes it seem like she is a soldier just having to play dress up for the robot to make it comfortable 

Me: Wow Weiss's heels...  Never noticed them. I just thought they were boots

Remnant: Nope heels 

Also Neon and Flynt actually have a pretty good intro 

We know what Atlas is like seeing Winter and Ironwood, so Neon and Flynt make an interesting and immediate contrast

And it feels like there is something riding on our opponents side given Flynts history with the Schnee. Which makes him stand out from the other jobbers

And Neon's intentionally irritating personality actually is more character displayed by any other opponent character

I actually really like the OST in the fight too. This might be my favorite action scene 

Flynt actually has a really cool semblance too 

oh wow, some actual dread with Weiss getting eliminated 

Imma let you get away with that Hulk reference Port

I like how Yang beat Flynt, but if I was gonna beat Neon, I'd have Yang punch the ground and through her off balance 

Haha Ironwood doesn't have a heart, I get it, he's tin man 

least they didn't go with Ozpin saying Qrow doesn't have a brain 

Me: So... If Pyrrha is all these things, why aren't we following her team?

So abridged version of the four seasons story Four random chicks find a guy camped out in his house, be nice to him and he gives them super powers. If I were a kid being told that, I’d demand another story 

Pyrrha: like a semblance?

Oz: Like magic!

Me: Like a semblance

Qrow is right, this selection is stupid 

You’re keeping a woman in your basement in cryogenic suspension. Oz you and Rhea need to share notes 

Oh god... Adam. You can’t act

Adam seems already psychopathic Or maybe that’s just his acting

So this is the famous Yang punching Mercury... It works I guess

Actually getting a chance to see some Jaune and Pyrrha moments in v3 and it’s good 

Me: Velvet is British? Huh... never predicted that 

Remnant: Australian 

How can Ruby notice Emerald all the way across the arena? Actually wait she’s the only one not in a black uniform 

Why did they leave Mercury behind where anyone could find him? 

And Penny is dead and I do not care at this point

Cinder’s little speech is the first time I’m actually feeling like I’m getting a villain motivation out of her 

She talks about how Oz and the headmasters are just men capable of making mistakes But she’s someone who would embrace and all powerful godly being. Though that seems and odds with the presumed motive that she’s working with Salem to potentially kill the brother gods

Breath of the Resistance: Chapter 33

Zelda's heart leapt into her throat. “What does that mean?” she choked out. “What do we do?”

“It means,” Riju started. “It means he probably took off. Hopefully.”

“Hopefully?” Zelda repeated.

Riju shrugged. “That, or they shot him and dumped his body somewhere else.”

“No,” Zelda said quickly. “That didn't happen.”

“I don't think it did,” Riju said. “And there was no sign of a struggle. The helicopter landed and that was it.”

“There had to be footprints,” Zelda said. “Something we can follow.”

Riju shook her head. “Tracks like that don't last for very long out here. The wind blows the sand around too much.”

“So, what now?” Teba asked, leaning out the window. His feathers ruffled in the cold breeze.

“I don't know,” Riju admitted. “We can't very well search for him blindly out here. We'll be walking right into our own deaths.”

“I can scout the area,” Teba said. “I'll have a better view from the sky.”

Riju hesitated. “The weather out here is too unpredictable,” she said.

But Teba was already getting out of the car. He stretched out his wings and shook himself out. “I can handle a little wind,” he said. “We'll have better luck this way.” He pushed himself off of the ground and took flight, soaring higher and higher into the dark sky.

Riju leaned out the window, watching as the Rito disappeared, and sighed. “I suggest we prepare ourselves,” she said as she sat back against her seat. “For anything that could try to attack us. We're not alone out here. I can assure you there are beasts far more terrifying than any Yiga soldier or even Ganon.”

Zelda tucked one of the guns into her jeans. “Great,” she muttered. She didn't want to be forced to use the weapon, especially on another person, but she was determined to defend herself and find Link.

Teba returned almost as quickly as he left, landing beside them just a few minutes later. “I have good news and bad news,” he said.

Riju raised an uncertain brow. “Which one do we want to hear first?”

Teba sucked in a breath and turned his gaze to the horizon. “The good news is, we're certainly not alone out here. The bad news – it's not Link.”

“Who is it?” Zelda asked, leaning forward to see passed Riju.

“What is it?” Riju said, her brows knit together.

Teba meet Riju's gaze. “From the looks of it,” he started, “an angry army of Lizalfos and some pissed off pirates.”

“Lizalfos?” Zelda repeated. “Pirates?”

“Pirates,” Riju hissed. “I was hoping that wouldn't be true.”

“What?” Zelda asked, growing frantic. “What's not true? What's going on?”

Riju turned her gaze to Zelda's. “Over the years, we've had our fair share of people being banished to the wastelands,” she explained. “The Lizalfos have occupied the wastelands for thousands of years. According to history, they were once Ganon's minions, thousands of years ago. Upon his defeat, they were driven out of Hyrule to the wastelands where they have remained and have been unable to escape. The pirates I thought were only myths, but it seems they have joined forces with the Lizalfos.”

“Who are they?” Zelda asked.

“The pirates were once citizens of Hyrule. Hylians and Gerudos, mainly, banished for various reasons. They've clearly found a way to survive the harsh terrains of the wastelands and have banded together with the Lizalfos. It's likely they'll go after anything that comes here.”

“Why?”

Riju shrugged. “They're pissed off. They want their revenge.”

“If they can find a way out of the wastelands,” Teba said, “they'll take it. And if they can't use someone to get out, they'll kill them.”

“The wastelands is a death sentence,” Riju continued. “If you don't die from the harsh environment, all the nasty things out there will get you. Death by sandstorm would be a far kinder way to go.”

“Are you sure they can't escape the wastelands?” Zelda asked cautiously.

“Even if they traveled east for years,” Riju confirmed, “the sands here play tricks on you. There is a magic among these dunes that could drive anyone insane. Nothing that enters here can get out. Not even us.”

“You're not serious,” Zelda hissed. “You said you could get us out of here!”

Riju shook her head. “I said I could get you in no problem. I never said I could get us out.”

“Are you fucking kidding me? Do you expect us to die out here?”

Riju smiled. “We'll get out of here. You're gonna get us out.”

Zelda blinked at Riju. “How am I supposed to get us out?”

“You've got a pretty useful power there,” she said, pointing at Zelda's hand. “That will get us out of here.”

Zelda turned her gaze onto her hand and bit her lower lip. “You're insane.”

“They're coming up on us fast,” Teba said, looking out over the horizon once more. “They know we're here.”

Riju stepped out of the car. “Get your game face on, boys,” she said with a grin. “It's time to kick some scaly lizard ass.”

“We can't just... run?” Yunobo said with a gulp. He pressed himself against the back seat of the SUV as the others stepped out.

“We'll only get ourselves more lost if we do,” Riju said. “These things are everywhere; there's no escaping them. But, if we're lucky, they may know where we can find Link.”

“And you expect them to just hand that information over to us?” Sidon said skeptically.

Yunobo tumbled out of the SUV. “What if they killed him already?”

Riju punched a fist into her palm. “We'll torture them until they tell us!”

Zelda looked over the horizon, searching for some sign. She pulled the gun out and cupped her hands around it, waiting.

“Yes, leave the torturing to us,” Sidon said, rolling her eyes. “We sure are an intimidating bunch, after all. Especially the tiny Gerudo.”

“Who ya callin' tiny?” Riju hissed at him.

Teba narrowed his eyes out into the desert. He pulled his own weapon out of his holster. “Nobody die,” he muttered.

Zelda widened her stance and did her best to mimic Teba. She held her gun up and peered down the sight, waiting.

The wind had whipped up the sand in the distance, making the horizon seem like a dark blur. It was quiet as they waited, the seconds passing endlessly. Before they knew it, the sandstorm was nearing them quickly, the wind whipping sand around them.

The first Lizalfos appeared through the sand, lurching through the air and pouncing on Riju quicker than Zelda had expected. Two more Lizalfos hurled themselves through the sand, one knocking Zelda off her feet. The wind was knocked out of her and she was stunned in surprise as she fell to the ground, the heavy weight of the creature on top of her. She struggled against it as it scratched at her violently with deadly sharp claws. She threw her arms over her face and kicked at it with her feet, but the creature pinned her down harder until it fell limp against her.

She felt Sidon's cool hands pulling her up off the ground from under the Lizalfos. She stumbled backwards against him and tried to see through the sand that was raging around them. She noticed, then the bang of gun shots, the growl of the Lizalfos, and the war cries of the approaching pirates. The ground shook and lightning split the sandstorm that raged around them. The force of Riju's attack seemed to through off the storm completely and it dissipated, giving Zelda a much clearer view of the battle that had begun.

Teba could not reload his weapon fast enough to fend off the Lizalfos that had swarmed him. Yunobo struggled to keep up his defensive barrier, but the weight of the enemies furious attacks was wearing him thin. Riju was also swarmed with Lizalfos, and the pirates that had finally emerged were charging her as well. But she lifted her hand confidently in the air and let loose another round of deadly lightning strikes. They struck the ground forcefully, knocking the Lizalfos and the pirates clear away from her and stunning them as the electricity coursed through their bodies. Without hesitation, she turned her next attack towards the group swarming Teba and Yunobo, clearing them away as well.

Sidon stepped in front of Zelda, pulling the pin from a grenade. He tossed it at another swarming group of Lizalfos that neared them and the explosion sent them flying through the air against the oncoming pirates.

But more Lizalfos had begun to flank them and they approached quickly from behind Zelda and Sidon. Zelda saw them first, catching them at the corner of her eye, and she spun around with her gun in front of her. She sucked in a breath and let three shots loose from her gun, each aimed at another Lizalfos. Two of them hit and the creatures fell to the ground. She fired twice more at the third one before it, too, fell lifeless.

She stared, mouth gaping, at the three bodies before her – the three Lizalfos she had killed. But to her surprise, she didn't feel as bad as she thought she would. They were only Lizalfos, after all. It wasn't like she had murdered another human being. The pirates, however, were another story. Zelda turned back around and watched as the pirates continued their approach. All but their eyes were hidden behind their masks; their wicked, fierce gazes sent a chill up her spine and she quickly looked away.

“Let's get out of here!”

Zelda followed Riju's voice and found her retreating back to the vehicles. Sidon pulled at her wrist and Zelda fell into a run behind him, retreating from the pirates that were rushing at them. She slid into the car as Riju peeled away, kicking sand up around them. But the pirates had them flanked, and they were waiting for them. They held swords and daggers in their hands and they waited in a line across their path.

Riju narrowed her eyes and stepped harder on the accelerator, but the pirates didn't budge. The car increased speed, faster and faster, heading directly for the pirates. They held their ground until the last moment and threw themselves out of the way of the speeding vehicle. But more Lizalfos waited on the other side, and they did not hesitate to throw themselves at the two speeding cars. They swarmed in like bees, their sharp claws scratching against the windshield as they tried to force their way inside.

Riju slammed on the breaks in an attempt to dislodge them, and though some had fallen off, the rest held strong as they continued their attempt to rip the car apart. The windshield started to crack, giving in to their weight and deadly claws, and the two women inside started to scream. Zelda fumbled for the gun, but her hands shook violently.

“Do something!” Riju shouted at her.

“You do something! If I shoot them, the windshield will shatter!”

Riju slammed her foot against the accelerator once more, dislodging a few more of the Lizalfos. She swerved along the desert sands in an attempt to clear the rest, but their strong fists finally got through the windshield and they desperately tried to grasp at the screaming woman inside.

Riju slammed on the breaks once more, finally dislodging the rest of the Lizalfos that clung to the vehicle, and they scurried away as a figure approached them. Riju and Zelda stared open mouthed as the pirate approached them. She carried a long, jagged dagger, raised high above her, and her eyes pulled up at the corners as she smiled behind her mask.

Zelda fumbled for her gun, but her shaking hands dropped the weapon against the floor. “Do something,” she hissed at Riju. Her hands searched the dark floor frantically for the weapon. When Riju did not respond, she glanced over to her. Riju's eyes were widen, frozen in fear as she watched the figure approach.

There was a loud bang against the hood of the car and it lurched slightly as something landed on it. The commotion caused them both to scream and Zelda pushed herself back into her seat, giving up her search for the weapon. Her heart raced violently as she looked at the figure that stood on the hood of the car.

Link straightened, raised his own dagger, and threw himself at the pirate. But the pirate was quicker, dodging his attack and sliding against the sand. She sprinted towards Link with her weapon extended, but Link blocked the blow. He threw her arm forcefully to the side, but she came back quickly, and their two blades clashed together. They struggled for a moment, each pressing their weight against the other. Link pushed back forcefully, but the pirate kept her footing, and while Link was exposed, she thrust her weight behind her blade and into Link.

Adam Kedge is the head coach at Albuqueque Academy in New Mexico and has several trips to NXN in addition to a wealth of state championships for both boys and girls.

High School Harrier: You've been able to helm your programs to a combined 19 state titles in the past two decades. What has been the staple of success that has remained throughout that period?

AK: If there was one staple of our program it would be the value we place on our youth.  As coaches we work endlessly to assure that our younger kids receive the coaching and attention they need in order to give them the best opportunity for future success.

HSH: You've coached squads that have qualified and placed very well at NXN years ago. What qualities did those teams have that made them so successful?

AK: Unity and accountability to others are the positive characteristics of any outstanding team.  Our most successful squads originally consisted of a small core group of bonded and driven team members that elevated the workload and focus of the whole team.  Past leaders were uncompromising of their expectations of their varsity peers, but also very supportive of team member’s individual struggles and setbacks.

HSH: How involved are you in team goal setting?

AK: For the majority of the season we keep goals simple and process related.  Being a good citizen, a positive-spirited contributing team member, a consistent trainer are goals we work on daily.  Get a little better today is often a theme. Relative to athletic accomplishments and winning, those are goals we talk about once the leaves begin to turn.  We have a strong history of success at the state level making our performance related goals easy to come up with. Our kids want to be healthy,  hungry, in the 7, and ready to run well at the NM State Meet.  Usually, those teams and individuals that can excel at State are functioning on a high that can carry them into those later weeks in November. Accomplishments beyond early November relative to NXR, NXN, or Foot Locker are hugely dependent upon many factors falling into place perfectly.

HSH: Do you have any big regular season meets your team will be participating in this fall?

AK: For almost 20 years we’ve traveled 450 miles from Albuquerque to Denver, Colorado for the Liberty Bell Invitational.   This year we’ve switched over to the Joe I. Vigil Invitational in Alamosa, Colorado. The total number of teams will be fewer, but three or four of the scheduled participants have NXN pedigree.

HSH: Do you have any athletes you believe are ready to have a breakout season?

AK:  The boys squad returns 3 runners that have placed in the top-10 at the New Mexico State Championships; Julian Garcia (2017), Justin Hickey and Oliver Pilon (2018).  Even with those three runners, the true identity of our team will be our depth in our 4-7 spots.   Our girls are 3-time defending state champs and are working at replacing 6 varsity athletes.  Grace Archibeck is our lone returning scorer and the young girls are working hard to build around her.

HSH: What is your philosophical approach to coaching that shapes how you run your program?

AK: The program is based on training that is both age and ability appropriate in volume. Total body health and injury free running are two main guiding principles.  The objective is gradual and steady improvement over the course of the students’  high school career or beyond. Considerations are also taken into account for the stresses of being a student at a strong academic college preparatory school. Simply put, we stress consistency & gradual build-up over a heavy seasonal load that produces quicker results.

HSH: What is a sample week of training for your program during the cross country season?

AK: A sample mid-season week that includes a Saturday meet may look like this - - -

Monday:  3-4 miles of longer repeats (800’s, 1K’s, etc…), plus warm-up and cool down. Rest is generally slightly less than 1:1.

Tuesday: 5-7 miles of running followed up by short explosive hills & body weight calisthenics

Wednesday: 6-10 miles of  steady pace running followed up with some strides on the track.

Thursday:  4-6 miles with some form of pick up or light progression in pace. More core or calisthenics.

Friday: 2 ½-4 miles, 6-8 x strides, More core or calisthenics.

Saturday: Warm-up, race, cool down.

Sunday: OYO (On your own).  0-10 miles depending on age, ability, and personal motivation.

Notes:

  1.  Our program has a large number of young kids including 8th graders.  Some younger kids may do as little as ½ the total volume listed above.

  2.  Weeks that have Friday meets or off weeks will likely bump the mid-week longer run to Saturday and extend by 1-2 miles.

HSH: What type of mileage does your average top 7 runner do during their base phase?

AK: Average upper level boys are generally in the 40-50 mile / week range.  Some motivated varsity members that have been in the program for 3 or 3+ years may occasionally get into the 60’s.  With Albuquerque being hilly and over 5000 feet elevation, mileage in the 60’s is more than sufficient. Top 7 girls tend to be 5-10 mi. / week miles less, but may also incorporate a little more cross training on the exercise bike.

HSH: Do you have a staple workout you like to do with your program?

AK: Workouts at Albuquerque Academy attempt to address all major training components.  We definitely utilize our hilly topography often, especially early in the fall. Once meets start it becomes a tough balance between working in everything we want to do and still find time for competitions on fresh legs.  As we progress into the second half of the season many of our hilly runs and hill repeats transition into more race paced and race specific work.

HSH: What type of ancillary training does your team do?

AK: Our ancillary work varies from year to year. I’m always looking for new exercises. I tend to take routines implemented by coaching collogues and modify them to fit our athletes and our time schedule.  Recently, I’ve gravitated back towards very traditional calisthenics that incorporate a wide variety of muscle groups all at once, things like mountain climbers, burpies, and a variety of lunges and push-ups.  In addition, we have various planks and hip flexor routines that we do. Generally we try to work efficiently with most routines taking no more than 10-12 minutes total.

HSH: What do you think is the most important aspect of your training program?

AK: The most important aspect of ANY quality training program is recovery! Recovery, mainly in the form of recovery runs, ancillary exercises, and sleep.

HSH: I understand that you had brain surgery 15 years ago while you were coaching at Albuquerque. What impact did that have on your life and your coaching?

AK: In the event that I ever forget the date of my wedding anniversary I have a great excuse that the doctor took out part of my brain (he didn’t).  Seriously, the tumor allowed me to value all aspects of my life.  The 6 month process of recovering from a 2.5 centimeter brain tumor and the support I got during that time made me realize, with faith and family,  I am never alone.  The recovery process took time and clearly I became depressed. It wasn’t until I returned to the team, even if for 15-20 minutes a day, that I started to feel better. I count my blessings daily and enjoy serving others through teaching and coaching as much as ever. I work to be the best husband, dad, and man that I can. If I get close to being good at those things, being a good coach and having a good team will happen.

HSH: How much parent involvement do you have in your program?

AK: Our parents are willing to help out in a wide variety of ways.  We’ve been blessed with a number of parents that take a special interest in photography and are willing to share them with all that are interested.  We do tend to limit  team activities outside of practice and meets due to our school’s advanced academic requirements.  We keep organized team functions like team dinners to one or two a year.  Parents do provide our team with meet day snacks and an occasional “bagel and chocolate milk day”.

HSH: What do you do to help foster team camaraderie?

AK: Much of what we do is not forced by setting up full team social functions (see reply above). Like most all XC programs, we have great kids that are genuinely nice and enjoy each other’s company.  Our team is very supportive of one another and set the standard of sportsmanship that fosters team-to-team camaraderie.

HSH: Do you have any team traditions that you do each year?

Just last week most of our team hiked the 9 mile long La Luz Trail.  The trail begins at 6300 feet elevation and ends at slightly above 10,300 feet. Our mid-season traditional workout is another big hill run called the Blue Tower.  We begin at 6100 feet and climbs to 7100 feet in 1.7 miles. We’ve been doing the Blue Tower Run for 20+ years and the kids run it as hard as any race in order to be King of the Hill or Quadzilla.  And late in the year we’ve switched out one of the more competitive invitationals for an informal triangular where we race for pumpkins.

SnK Chapter 103 Poll Results

I like that Isayama for the first time since rts showcased a fast-paced action-packed chapter. Too many questions rn, but imo zeke is 100% w/ paradis, falco won’t die and the female titan will appear, regardless of its inheritor. Eren’s transformation was jizz-worthy

This chapter was both so thrilling and yet so frustrating.  On one hand, so much is happening in just the right amount of panels and it seems Isayama has learned the art of pacing in this arc more successfully than others.  I'm a sucker for tragedy, so the conflicted misery of what is going on is satisfying given the history of the series.  On the other hand, I am still very frustrated in figuring out what exactly is going on, what is being implied, specifically anything involving Zeke

I don’t know what to say. I feel so empty. But the chapter is great!

This month it was a tie for most emotional moment between “Falco trying to encourage unconscious Reiner” and “Armin finally appearing, looking haunted”. We are happy to see that people who love both sides of the conflict were able to have a good emotional tug with this chapter! 

Pretty much every panel that included Falco.  This poor, traumatized child who ran into a literal war zone to get help.

Why are all my waifus getting killed.

With Reiner having no will to live, I guess he’s just going to stay in that crystal thing. Why do we have so many shifters in crystals now (Annie, Lady Tybur and now Reiner)?

I absolutely loved the scene between Falco and Reiner. That was one of the most emotional and sweet moments in SNK. Reiner was ready to sacrifice himself to save the child. I truly love how warm and protective he is towards children. I hope that both will survive. I want Reiner to find happiness and see how great person he really is. He made mistakes but regrets them. He learnt his lesson. Now is time to move on.

This one was a landslide win with Armin’s entrance taking the victory. It seems that months of waiting to see his return finally paid off! We’re sure many of you guys are hoping to see his Colossal form next month!

Eren transforming three times within a half an hour is incredible, but the most amazing part of the chapter was Armin's entrance as the colossal titan. The explosion looked catastrophic, can't wait to see it animated!

I literally screamed when I saw Armin, I’m so happy to see him with the Survey Corps, but his face worries me slightly. I’m also sad we didn’t get to see his titan form.

Not as epic as the last one but so glad to see Armin again. Sasha's sniping skills and Eren mindblowing everybody (Porco in particular) were the best parts.

While the majority of you guys are certain Zeke is only acting on his own agenda, there’s plenty of division on whether he could be siding with Eren alone or with Paradis as a whole. One thing that does seem certain to the majority is that he’s definitely not working in Marley’s favor. 

Zeke probably thinks he and Eren are the same because they were both manipulated by Grisha or so he thinks. If he realizes that Eren probably doesn't hate their dad, Zeke's attitude towards his brother will possibly change. 

Zeke's the one with most awareness that the cycle will repeat so long as shifters exist, his unique perspective is knowing what Grisha taught him as well as having the total trust of the Marley from a young age, and having physically gone and seen the island and witnessed their struggles with the titans, and met Eren who is the direct result of Grisha's continued plans.  There is no one who should be more impartial and aware that this is a unending cycle, it seems he's finally coming to terms with having to do something about it after all his life simply being a pawn of people in what he assumed was a more influential position than him.

Every chapter I say "This is definitely the chapter we finally see what Zeke is up to" and every chapter it just gets more confusing...

I seriously doubt that Zeke is working with Paradis. One thing would be to act like an enemy but he literally killed a bunch of SC soldiers, I doubt the SC would be ok with that. Also, Levi looked PISSED AF! I doubt Zeke died and he's still suspicious but I'm betting on him having his own ulterior motives.

I don't think Zeke is working with the SC. It was hard to answer these questions when the options contradict my feelings and understanding of the chapter so much.

So. Good ol' Zeke. He's like David S. Pumpkins; he's his own thing. I'm still of the belief that he's working towards his own objective but now I'm more open to the idea that he may have something set up with SC via Eren as his point of contact (who, of course, is definitely working with/for SC). But it's clear that even if they are both aware of the chain of events unfolding before their eyes, both sides have something they want badly in the end and will probably "betray" each other without hesitation to get it at some point.

The survey corps has a plan but Zeke and Eren also have a separate plan they're not aware of. And on top of all of that Zeke has his own plan for his own personal agenda.

The general consensus is that there’s more in store for Zeke in this story, even if it means he managed to transfer his consciousness to his Eldian ass. ;) Most of you are positive we will be seeing more from Zeke in future chapters!

If Zeke is dead, I will watch the live action movie 10 times in a row

Levi cut Zeke out of the Beast Titan's neck while everyone was distracted by Armin's transformation. Then after Zeke made his getaway, Levi blew the shit out of the rest of the nape to destroy the evidence and make everyone think Zeke was dead.

I find it hard to believe that Zeke got taken down this easily again. I also find it odd that we don't see the clothing he's wearing inside his titan, but we do see what the others are wearing in their titans. Looking back, it seems that's the way it was before, too. But I think it would be a cool plot twist if he had 3DMG equipped this time, considering he did take Mike's 3DMG a while back.

While the majority believe that Levi is working along with Zeke, there is division on whether Levi has decided to let go of his promise to Erwin to kill Zeke. Over half of the voters believe that Levi still intends to kill Zeke when all is said and done, but a good 31% of you believe that he may have decided to let it go for the greater goal.

If the Zeke-Survey Corps alliance isn't real then Isayama must be the biggest troll ever. Also, I believe Levi has always shown that he'll do what's best for humanity/Eldia (even if it means doing unpleasant things) so I don't think the alliance is as far-fetched as other people believe.

Levi!   I love how emotional Levi gets when it comes to keeping his promise to Erwin; nothing can get a rise out of him anymore or get him to max rage except Zeke.  I hope we find out sooner rather than later what Zeke is up to, but there is no way that Levi is going to let him walk out of this alive, even if he is part of the current plan.  

Regarding Levi wanting to Kill Zeke, while he'd prefer to kill him by his own hands we already know he'd be willing to feed him to someone so the Titan power isn't lost. I personally think Zeke agreed, since he has a a year left at best,

While there was a small shift in ratio, the majority of you guys still believe that Pieck is not totally trustful of Zeke. There have been plenty of analyses floating around believing that she may have seen Zeke leaving the Beast Titan after Levi’s attack. 

The question about Pieck being mistrustful of Zeke isn't worded very well because if I answer yes it makes it seem like I'm part of the 70% and haven't changed my mind when I'm in fact part of the 30% and haven't changed my mind.

I think what Jean & Zeke mean by "It's almost time/times running out" is that Eren needs to make contact with Zeke before the Colossal Wall Titans arrive so Eren will be able to control them. If Eren doesn't touch Zeke before the Wall Titans arrive, everyone including the SC & Eldians will die.

I believe that the question about the lights up are relationed with Hanji, after all, Armin is too distance. In fact, I think that the thoughts about an escape through a zepplin are a little bit awkward.  And I think that zeke escaped using the DMT, wich he took when he said goodbye to piecke and porko, before eren showed up.

Most of you still believe that Jean is clinging onto his humanity (and with good reason after he called Floch out in the previous chapter for being too zealous). The expectation is that he will avoid harming Falco or that someone else will step in and do the dirty work instead. 

I noticed that jean is only attacking the shifters on shiganshina battle arc. which can tell a lot about his war ethics and strategics. he’s only fighting those who declared war on them first, almost as if trying to ignore those who got caught up into it.

Last month nearly all of the scores were tied with both pessimism and optimism about Annie’s fate. This month, there seems to be more optimism, but most people are still hanging out in the area of uncertainty. We hope to get a clear answer soon!

Since Eren said that the crystal was, as expected, unbreakable AFTER pointing out it was like Annie's, I take that to mean he has tried chewing Annie's crystal open but failed like he did this time. I'm not sure why so many people seem to be taking this to mean that he was able to eat Annie when the scene actually reassures me that he hasn't

I had absolutely no hope for Annie being alive, but seeing Lady Tybur being conscious while inside the crystal changed my mind. Annie could still be alive. And if she is, she spent YEARS in the crystal while being aware of her surroundings??? I am shook

It has already been hinted several times that Annie would eventually return. I don't think Isayama would forget about her, and if it appears to be true, that she's returning next chapter, I hope to see her work with the Survey Corps, or a backstory/flashback, which explains the reason why she'll be working with the Survey Corps from now on.

I strongly disagree with having only 2 options in the "capture or to kill them?" question. The real answer, is, I believe, either one. If they can deprive Marley of a weapon and add it to their strength, is clearly the ideal. But, if the choice comes down to kill or they escape, they'll absolutely just kill them. Depriving your enemy of a weapon is always a better choice than letting them continue attacking you with it, in the hopes you could take it later.

I still maintain that the goal was to avoid any and all combat with the shifters; hence Pieck and Porcos trap. (Why bother setting the whole thing up? Why not just kill them?) My guess is that capturing them for their titan powers was the next step, although that's obviously failed. I feel like the end game here is to gather all the titan somehow and unite them for...??? Something??? World peace??? Shit, that sounds like a good idea. Unrealistic but good.

So chomping down on Lady Tybur's crystal won't break it and apparently neither will the thunder spears. We still haven't seen Eren try to use his hardening ability to break it but honestly, I think his only option now is to use the coordinate. It could be revealed soon that only the person inside the crystal can break themselves out and by using the coordinate, Eren can order her to do so. After all, we've seen Eren control mindless titans, but would unlocking the full powers of the founding titan allow him to control shifters as well?

Bertholdt's death was such a surprise to Porco... When Reiner returned to Marley, he gave his full report about what had happened, so if he was aware of Bertholdt's death, then he would have reported it, thus leading to Porco knowing that Bertholdt was already dead. Does that mean that Reiner has no idea that Bertholdt is dead? Was he hoping that Bertholdt managed to escape and was still alive on Paradis?

Personally I'm not a huge fan of action heavy chapters like this as they take a few read throughs to get a good picture of what's going on. Although I do think the intention at the minute is to make us feel a bit lost as to motivations and who is supporting who. So I'm going to roll with it and be surprised when the reveals happen.

I think Porco will get Marcel's confession memory soon.

Honestly, I was over the moon when Levi took down Zeke, but it did seem a little too easy...I highly doubt Zeke would go down easily. Also, Armin's haunted expression broke my heart. In my first read i thought that Armin had a ponytail and i got excited. Some users corrected me and when i re-read the chapter i found it was just his hand. I feel betrayal

Notes: I know Stark!reader has been done so many times but the cannon is too good not to write sorry not sorry. Also this is pretty short but still cute hehe. 

You didn’t want to leave the Avengers tower and you most definitely did not want to move upstate. 

That was no secret to anyone, mainly because you complained about it at any window of opportunity - no matter how slim of an opportunity it was.

It was a secret however, as to why you didn’t want to move.

Ok, well no one knew it was a secret. Everyone especially your dad thought it was because you were moving away from the hustle and bustle of the city which you actually loved, and that was part of it so you weren’t technically lying to your dad.

But the real reason came in the form of none other than your dad’s protege, the spiderling himself.

Peter god damn Parker.

You had no idea how, but somehow the nerdy boy had crawled his way into your heart. You’d met him when you went with your dad to recruit him for your dad’s ‘war’ against Steve (and you were still furious about the fact that it had even happened) and the rest was history. However, your dad had made it pretty damn clear that one, you were not allowed to date and two, you were especially not allowed to date a certain friendly, neighbourhood spider-boy. 

Oops.

Since then the pair of you had weaved a very detailed web of lies, pun definitely intended, in order to keep your relationship secret from literally everyone. Even Peter’s aunt didn’t know just in case she accidentally blurted it out to Tony while she was under his billionaire, playboy charm. 

Luckily, your dad had felt guilty enough about uprooting your entire life to let you stay in the tower for as long as possible. Your room was going to be the last one to be moved so you still had one full week until you would be forced to leave behind the boy you loved.

A ding from your phone made you break out of your thoughts and glance down at the illuminated screen beside you. Speak of the devil.

Peter: Two minutes away! Had to stop and help a lost lady, but she gave me a churro. I’d give you some but... I already ate it :(”

You giggled and shook your head at your typical boyfriend before quickly replying him, telling him everything was fine, before hurrying towards your sealed window. 

Biting your lip with anticipation, you eagerly pushed the window open and looked out the floor to ceiling window as you admired the birds eye view of New York City. A loud thump from beside you made you jerk your head abruptly to see your boyfriend stuck to the outside of the glass, rubbing his head.

“Thought you’d opened the other window.” He confessed as you giggled and helped him get inside your room. 

“You alright Parker?” You asked, attempting to add a tone of concern into your voice but were unable to fight the smirk from playing on your lips. 

“No, I think it needs a kiss better.” He spoke, pouting his bottom lip out as he gestured to his left temple. Rolling your eyes playfully you obliged, moving up on your toes to place a kiss to his bruise.

As you moved however, Peter quickly turned his face to capture your lips in an elongated kiss. As you pulled away you noted his cheeky grin, clearly proud of himself. 

“Now I’m feeling better.” 

“You know what else will make you feel better?” You ask, quirking a brow at him as you wrap your arms around his neck.

“Hmm, what?” He smirked as he snaked his arms around your waist to settle on your lower back.

“If we binge watch Stranger Things.” You grin before pulling away from him to grab your laptop as he let out a dramatic groan.

“But you’ve already seen it three times alright.” He complains as you plop onto your bed that overlooked the city, scooting over to make room for him as he followed after you.

You simply shrugged as you opened up your laptop to search netflix up. “What can I say, I’ve got a Jonathan Byers craving that needs to be quenched.”

“Oh great, good to know I get to spend my evening watching you swoon over some other guy.” Peter whined as you got up the first episode.

“Oh stop being a drama queen.” You huff jokingly before leaning over and placing a gentle kiss to his cheek. “You know you’re the only man for me, spiderling.” You coo which made a faint blush appear on Peter’s cheeks.

Clearly satisfied with your answer and reassurance, Peter settled into the abundance of pillows and wrapped an arm around your waist as the first episode began to play. 

“You’re sure your dad isn’t coming back tonight right?”

“A hundred percent sure, said he was going up state to deal with some avengers drama. We’re totally alone tonight, I promise.”

“Jonathan is such a wimp, if he’d just told Nancy how he felt then she wouldn’t have ended up with bloody Steve.” Peter complained as he watched Steve and Nancy lock in a passionate kiss onscreen. 

“Easier said than done Parker, if I remember correctly I was the one who had to make the first move.” You laughed, turning your attention from the screen to look at your boyfriend. 

“Hey! It’s a bit different, you’re *yn* Stark, that’s just a little bit intimidating.” He explained which made you roll your eyes in amusement.

“You’re also little innocent and awkward Peter Parker, I think you’d be the same with any girl.”

“Oh really? Innocent huh?” He echoed raising a brow at you. 

“You heard me Parker.” You challenged as you failed to hide your clear amusement at your boyfriend’s outrage. 

“Ok, we’ll see about that.” 

Before you could ask Peter what he meant, he’d placed his mouth on yours causing your eyes to widen in surprise. Before you could even process what was happening his lips disappeared from yours as he looked at you with a smug smirk.

“I think you’re going to have to do better than that Parker.” You grinned before pulling him back down to reconnect your lips. This time, your eyes fluttered closed as his lips moulded passionately with yours. You could hear Peter moving around as he fumbled to shut your laptop and shove it to one side as your kiss deepened. 

A small smile twitched up on your lips as you wrapped your arms around his neck as his hands made their way to your ass. “Better?” He whispered breathlessly against your lips.

“Better.” You mumbled in agreement before he passionately kissed you again. 

As your make out session grew more intense, the more out of tune you became with the rest of your surroundings as your senses became totally consumed by Peter. 

Maybe it was the fact that you were a hundred percent convinced that your father wasn’t going to come home, or maybe it was because you assumed Peter would hear anything with his spider-senses, or maybe it was both. But whatever it was, you didn’t hear your dad talking, nor did you hear him walking down the hall to the door of your bedroom. 

Not until it was too late, that is.

“Surprise sweet- AH!” 

“Fuck!” You yelped in surprise as the loud voice shattered your focus. Both you and Peter reacted instantly, springing apart from each other as your heads jerked to the door to see none other than your father with his jaw hanging slack in complete shock and Happy standing behind him. 

Silence immediately filled the room, apart from you and Peter’s pants as you tried to desperately regain your breath and cool your flushed cheeks. 

“Dad I-” You began but were quickly cut off before you could finish your sentence. 

“Parker...” Your dad began before sucking in a deep breath as he glared daggers at your boyfriend. “Unless my daughter was choking and needed mouth to mouth... you have some serious explaining to do spiderling.”

You clamped your jaw shut and glanced at your boyfriend who was slowly turning a pale shade of purple. “I- uh- I just- um-” Peter stuttered profusely before gulping as large beads of sweat formed on his forehead. 

There were a few moments of tense silence as Peter and Tony eyed each other, neither one of them willing to make a move. Then it changed.

All you did was blink and Peter had sprung up from your bed, placed a hasty kiss on your cheek and literally leapt out of your still open window.

“Hey! No, no, no, get back here!” Tony shouted after a few seconds as it seemed to just register that Peter had made a run for it.

Before you could call out to your dad he had turned on his heels and sprinted out of your room, leaving you sitting dumfounded on your bed and Happy standing silently in the doorway.

Eventually you dragged your eyes from the window, flickering your gaze to Happy. Your brow furrowed in confusion, doing a double take, when you saw the last thing you ever expected to see in your entire life.

“Why are you smiling?” You asked in complete disbelief as you stared at him with your mouth agape. 

“That kid has sent me a text and rambling voice messages about his life everyday since I met him, and he especially loves to talk about some mysterious, smart girl who lives in a nice tower. Do you know any other smart girls who live in a huge tower?” 

“Bloody hell Peter.” You mumbled under your breath, rubbing your temples in frustration. If there was one thing Peter definitely didn’t have, it was subtlety.

“How long have you known?” 

“A couple of months.” Happy answered, a smirk still present on his usually stern face.

“But why are you smiling?” You repeated.

“What can I say? Kids grown on me.” He shrugged innocently.

“Besides-” Happy began, “I knew you’d eventually get caught, and that was going to be so much more entertaining.”

Before you could reply a loud shriek from outside made you jerk your head to the large window. Your jaw practically hit the floor when you saw Peter desperately swinging from building to building with your dad in his ironman suit, hot on his tail.

“And I was so right.”
