ハドリアヌスの長城 (Hadrian's Wall) 7.0: 紙ペンの重量級。めちゃくちゃゴチャついていて全体が見渡しにくそうな紙面も、テーマ設定も良いのか、一度ルールを理解してしまえば、スルスル遊べてしまうのは、よいデザインがされている証拠。とはいえ、人によっては、このUIでちまちま1時間超を過ごすのには拒否反応がありそうではある。

ブレーメン (Bremen) 6.0: トリックテイキングの協力ゲーム。他プレイヤーからはスートだけがわかる状態で、各々が6-4-2-0トリックを達成する……というところまでは良いものの、全員が最後に異なるスートのカード（駒）を残さななければいけない、という勝利条件が一気にゲームを複雑なパズルにさせる。程よい難易度。

マインクラフト：ビルダーズ＆バイオーム (Minecraft: Builders & Biomes) 6.0: 当時マインクラフトにどハマリしていた娘のために購入。セットコレクションとラウンドごとの目的達成、能力強化など、ユーロの基本的なメカニクスが詰まっていて入門用としては割とお上品な部類のゲームだと思いました。

ゼロ 日本語版 (Zero Down) 6.5: 変形ジンラミーの中では一番好きかも。無難に打っても良いんだけれども、名前の通り、0点フィニッシュしたときのカタルシスがゲーム体験の向上に寄与している。麻雀的。

アクアティカ 日本語版 (Aquatica) 7.0: 土地カードのボーナス獲得/得点化のためのスライドタイミングが悩ましく、あーだこーだ言いながら手元をゴチャっと動かす最近のデッキ/タブロービルドの中でも出色の出来だと思う。上品にまとまりそうなゲームに、プレイアビリティに寄与していないマンタ駒がいびつさを与えていて良い。

New Delhi:

The chief of a residents’ welfare association of a neighbourhood in southeast Delhi was severely injured in an attack on Friday by a group of men allegedly hired by a builder he had stopped from illegally using the colony’s water supply for construction.

Both the legs and the right hand thumb of Ravindra Rawat, the president of the Pul Prahladpur residents’ welfare association, were fractured in the attack in which another officer bearer, Maharaja Singh, was also injured.

In the visuals accessed by NDTV, broken furniture and glass lay scattered on the floor of the Vishwakarma Colony residents’ association office as people gathered around Mr Rawat to give him first aid and called an ambulance.

According to Mr Rawat, he was attacked by men hired by a builder, identified as Balli, who is constructing a building in the area. Mr Balli was reportedly told to not tap into the colony’s water supply illegally. When Mr Balli did not heed the requests by the residents’ association, a complaint was lodged with the Delhi water body, which disconnected the supply.

“There is shortage of water in the colony. The builder instead of calling for a water tanker tapped into the (Delhi) Jal Board pipeline. He did this even after he was told to refrain from such activities. RWA members filed a complaint against him and his water supply was cut,” Mr Rawat said.

After this, a group of men first tried to attack Mr Rawat near the Pul Prahladpur police station around 7pm on Friday evening, but he managed to escaped. Two hours later, a group of 20 to 25 men attacked the residents’ association office when its members had gathered to discuss the first attack on Mr Rawat.

The police said a case has been filed and investigation is on.

The Taj Mahal emerald.

The Mughals, and the Timurids before them (the descendants of Tamerlane) enjoyed carving their gems with names and pictures. They had a particular fondness for engraving spinels (see http://tinyurl.com/mlx4c7m) and emeralds, which they called 'the tears of the moon'. This example was carved with a green garden of foliage, chrysanthemum, lotus and poppy flowers during the reign of Jahangir or Shah Jahan (builder of the Taj Mahal) in the rough period 1630-50. This design is similar to the magnificent hardstone inlay work that covers the Taj, and the stone was therefore named after the monument.

It once may have been in the collection of the maharajas of Darbhanga as an old photo seems to depict one of them wearing it, it featured in the 1925 Paris Exposition Universelle in a shoulder necklace (Le Collier Berenice) by Cartier alongside two other large Mughal emeralds, in the era when Asian styles had a strong influence on European art. It was also exhibited at the Smithsonian between 1997 and 2000. Christies then sold it in 2009 for a shade under 800k US$. Weighing 141.13 carats and of good colour and transparency, it was cut from a hexagonal emerald crystal, using the original shape to determine the finished result.

Kolkata is the oldest city of India and is also filled with rich culture and heritage. The main recognition of the city is the heritage structures that embark on its landscape. But the sorry part of these structures today is that most of them are in a decayed state with no maintenance, or have fallen in the eyes of land sharks who intend to demolish them and make new buildings in place of them. Except for a few buildings which are centuries old and have historical importance and are maintained by the government, the rest are suffering from a pathetic plight and are in quite a bad shape. Many of the structures are home to the old residents of Kolkata, who have been staying in buildings for ages. These buildings can be particularly seen in the areas of North Kolkata like Shyambazaar, Sova bazaar, Central, MG Road, Bura Bazaar, and the other regions adjoining them. They offer a calming and contrasting view of the olden days in comparison to the modern and sky scrapping skyline of the new buildings. Several buildings in the city have a unique Indo-European design that has traces of classical Marwari (Rajasthani) type design with a blend of British style touches.

It is not only the external part that looks beautiful, but the interiors are equally graceful as well. Most of them have long-large verandahs that run across the house. The wooden windows with blinds are the signature of these architectures, which emblemizes its grace.

But with the passage of time, these buildings have come to a stage of crumble, and lack of maintenance and neglect has worsened their condition. As these properties fall in the center of the city and in prime areas, they have become the target of property dealers and builders of the states. Many owners of such heritage buildings have sold their houses to the property dealers against a huge amount of money offered by them. The builders and promoters raze these structures to the dust and construct housing apartments, supermarkets, malls, and multiplexes on them. There have also been incidents of crime by land sharks where owners of such property have been threatened by dealers and builders to give up their homes to them. These areas are lucrative plots for the property developers as they make a huge profit by demolishing and making new commercial or residential buildings on them. As the buildings made on such property offer a good amount of profit, builders, and promoters at times resort to malicious ways to acquire the property. It is an act of crime which is going on unchecked in the state as property dealers are compelling the owners of such heritage structures to give up their homes. The neglect from the government to preserve these beautiful heritage buildings is increasing their plight even more, making the situation worse. But on account of all this, the city is losing its old glory because of which it was known. Development is necessary for needed for growth and survival of humans, and it is inevitable. But this blind race of development and modernization has unleashed a devil, which is depleting the ancient heritage of not only Kolkata city but of the country as of the whole.
