Ho Boy. I don't even know where to start here. One of my favourite rp moments stems from you directing Eddie's approach with Beth. That from silent coffee sharing to the moment he works up the courage to ask her out on a date, he pays attention to the small things. He goes into it armed with the knowledge that she's a little shy, a little quiet, a lot pescatarian, and not the kind of girl you kiss on the first, fifth, maybe even twentieth date. And he was still willing to pursue her. He offers her a picnic date, going so far as depriving himself of the resources he needs to survive. He gets advice from his symbiote. He takes it seriously enough to have planned activities. He literally did everything right. Even the moment when they finally evolve to the point that Eddie's holding her in his lap, making out with her on the couch, and her top comes off...he stops. Because he feels it's unfair to go any further, without knowing he's committed to someone else in his life. He introduces her then, to his Other. Rather than being horrified by a seven and some foot, enormous alien creature that lives in and with him, Beth feels instant desire. Maybe it's because his Other is part of him, but mostly I am sure it's the teeth. From that point on, Beth falls in love with both man and alien separately, and with Venom as a collective of both of them. With Eddie, she has a kindred spirit; someone who has a need to do good, who sometimes does things frowned upon by society, who has forever been on the fringes of their social class and peer groups, both Catholic, both survivors of different forms of neglect and abuse, both with demanding jobs. They lived pretty close to each other in New York but didn't meet despite mutual people in common, not until they both end up in San Francisco. By virtue of being bonded to his Klyntar, Eddie is maybe one of the few people who understand just how powerful and terrible the loss of her brother was, what it feels like to be forever incomplete. She isn't wholly jealous of his bond with Beloved ~as she soon names his Other~ and she does love Him, too, as an entity, a being in His own right. If Eddie speaks to Beth's human side, then Beloved speaks to the part of her that is equally alien, the nature of being a predator spirit as Rokea kinfolk. She might not have an immortal hive mind, but she does have nearly immortal sharks who frown upon human society except when they serve as meals. And when they decide to be Venom...well. Everything I say about that would get me banned for TOS violations and crimes against the Hays Code, but needless to say, I literally love everything about them. Which is why we have plans to ruin them both in the best ways possible. You have no one muse that I don't love a hundred different ways in a hundred different universes, but I think even beyond ones I've already talked about, this is my OTP of ours. And because of you, you gave me a whole new fandom <3

Humm, hey! I wasn’t sure whether to write to you or not but I was reading your analysis about Danny and Rachel, and I wanted to tell you about some ideas that came up by reading your meta. You can ignore me if you feel like it, I really only write because it was a interesting point of view because it's very different from mine and it helped me. Rachel’s a character with whom I can’t sympathize but it’s more for personal experiences because in my country (I’m from Argentina) [1/?]

the concealment of identity is something that marked our history, our memory and I know that I would never judge Rachel very well. It's one of the reasons why your reasoning helps me think more about her side of the story, and I like that. I understand Danny better because I see him through the lens of his anxiety disorder (it’s a predominant personality trait). He has all the symptoms of the book: catastrophic thinking, concealment, fear of the unpredictable, insomnia, perfectionism, [2/?]            

a tendency to depression, phobia, pretending that EVERYTHING is OK even when NOTHING IS OK, a pretense of infallibility and feeling excessively responsible for things that are beyond his control. I think even Matt alludes to this in chapter 1x18 and, well, there is 4x19. Danny doesn’t let anyone in and Rachel, even if she tried and tried and tried really could not get to the bottom because her personality is also fluctuating (she’s impulsive and emotional) [3/4] 

I think Danny's anxiety disorder is very well written in H50, really consistent, and I would love it to be recognized more within the canon. Thanks for your writing, you really helped me think about Rachel, Danny, and their relationship. [4/4]

First, thank you so very much for reading my Danny and Rachel analysis. The relationship topic between Danny and Rachel is a minefield and I was so convinced to get anon hate for having the guts to put my opinion out in the open for everyone to read.

But I wasn't prepared to get such a great, excellent addition to my essay about those two. Your insight and your explanation are perfectly explained. It confirms and supports my thesis and the way I've tried to analyze their relationship. Thank you very much for sending me your messages. I'm so very pleased and thrilled, and also happy that my Danny/Rachel insight has kept you thinking. I'm happy you get to know a different angle that has helped you to see their relationship from another point of view.

I love to read about your others, well-expressed points of view on the topic of Danny's and Rachel's psychological issues. I'm always keen on sharing opinions when there's a threat of thoughts I can follow to reach the end that helps me to understand why someone, you, dear anon, came to this conclusion. What I can't cope with is senseless bashing and complaining and hitting always on the same spot without coming up with a solution or at least a resourceful opinion. So, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with me.

I like your messages a lot and what you've expressed in the text. It explains in an explicit way how Danny's and Rachel's personality has been built through their lives and their experiences, and why a relationship between those two doesn't work. I appreciate it very much that you feel like sharing your view with me.

You've analyzed Danny spot on. It's so well said. Yes, that's exactly that. I'm still not done talking about him and the way he behaves with his girlfriends. Rachel has a very special place in his heart and the way he has treated her still has some potential to keep discussing. I'm currently in season 2 where Rachel calls Danny in another time of need. She's in labor and Stan's out of town. So, Danny jumps in without any second thoughts and supports her with all his mighty love and affection, what's real and honest at this point.

I assume Danny and Rachel get along great when they aren't involved in a relationship together. It's so obvious to observe. Both are seriously trapped in their pattern as soon as they get involved emotionally.

Bienvenida al 2017 - retos, viajes y aventuras

Para una gran mayoría este año que pasó, será “un año para recordar” por las innumerables noticias negativas; empezando con la política y terminando con aquellas personas que nos dejaron muy pronto. En lo personal me ha traído muchas cosas positivas y me ha permitido arrancar 2017 con una sonrisa de oreja a oreja.

Desde mi trinchera ha sido un gran año, disculpen por ser “el idiota optimista del grupo”, pero tengo mucho que agradecer a 2016. Por un lado me ha permitido desarrollarme profesionalmente como ningún otro año y mira que he tenido excelentes proyectos bajo el brazo en años anteriores; a nivel personal emprendí un proyecto de vida <3

Algo fue distinto en este 2016, tuve el honor de rodearme de personas con excelentes valores tanto individuales como en grupo. Creo que también esto se vio reflejado por el cambio en la manera en que estoy colaborando, siempre he sido un “llanero solitario” y aunque esto me ha permitido cosechar algunos éxitos a nivel individual, no he podido tener grandes logros a nivel colectivo.

Aquí tengo que reconocer el gran esfuerzo que el equipo de Nearsoft LABS ha hecho, tanto en las iniciativas internas como en las externas. Aún queda mucho por hacer, pero este primer año como equipo nos ha trazado la ruta a seguir para este 2017 y en vísperas de poder despuntar en 2018. Cada uno de estos Nearsoftians ha aportado algo que me ha ense��ado a ser más humilde, más creativo y sobre todo mejor persona. Gracias Frank, Hector, Mónica, Misael, Lili, Luis, Diego, Dan, Polo, Roberto y Matt; cada plática con ustedes me ha permitido entender dónde debo de seguir mejorando.

Entendí que debes generar dinámicas que permitan el diálogo, la expresión libre y sobre todo un entendimiento de a donde vas como colectivo. Algunas de mis lecciones:

Habla menos y escucha mas.

Permite que las cosas fluyan y no interrumpas el flujo.

Acelera el proceso de aprendizaje de tus compañeros.

Siempre hay una mejor manera de decir las cosas, piensa en ello (No una, ni dos, ni tres….sino tres).

Sobre todo debemos empoderar a cada uno de tus compañeros; darles el apoyo moral y el acceso a los recursos para que puedan lograr sus metas, esto tendrá un efecto dominó en todo el grupo.

Una persona con motivación y determinación tiene su peso en oro…….generando una mina de oro cuando entras en dinámica de grupo. Lo cual crea un colectivo y trabaja como un solo ente.

Energía y fuerza creativas: comunidades y colectivos.

Estoy plenamente convencido de que el cambio que queremos para nuestros países proviene del empoderamiento de cada individuo, a través de la canalización de la fuerza individual por medio de plataformas abiertas. Plataformas estructuradas  de manera tal que permitan a colectivos/comunidades generar información o contenidos que reflejen la realidad de su entorno. Entorno constituido por instituciones/ entidades a servicio de ellos que promuevan el diálogo y de manera especial generar  acciones para el beneficio de la sociedad.

Tuve la inmensa fortuna de participar con La Liga Peatonal, OpenStreetMap, Ciudad a Pie y Codeando México en distintas iniciativas en América Latina y Europa. Hace ya dos años que vengo colaborando con el gran equipo de Mapillary. Donde he aprendido que un equipo distribuido con una visión a largo plazo puede rendir sus frutos. Gracias Jan Erik, Peter, Johan, Pau, Yubin, Ed, Sandra, Katrin, Yoshi, Madelen, Chris y la comunidad de Mapillary por todo América Latina con Freddy, Celine, Jorge, Jonathan, Arlindo, Nico, Rafael, Carlos Felipe y todos los voluntarios de las fotocaminatas.

Este año junto con Karina y Eduardo re-lanzamos Hackers & Founders Mexico City, gracias al apoyo de una red de voluntarios los eventos tuvieron buena acogida en la comunidad de tecnología y “Emprendedurisimo” de la Ciudad de México. Este año estamos por lanzar el chapter de Hackers & Founders ProDev con el enfoque de apoyar a la comunidad de developers para generar discusiones alrededor de temáticas de ingeniería de software, arquitectura de la información y datos, softskills y más.

Aquí les presento las grandes lecciones sobre colectivos:

Deposita tu confianza y fé en los líderes que comparten tus valores.

No hagas cosas buenas que parezcan malas.

Haters gonna hate…..vive con ello; es señal que vas por una ruta inexplorada.

Muévete rápido y rompe cosas…..aprende y crece con las experiencias.

Este 2017 será un año lleno de retos a nivel económico (ya vieron lo del USD vs MXN) y político (el Canciller Becario), pero vamos a tener que dejar de lado nuestras diferencias y explorar la manera como salir adelante como colectivo y como país. Yo, ya tengo bien definido con quienes voy a “arrimar el hombro”  para seguir creciendo en lo personal y profesional, siempre de un punto de partida de esfuerzo colectivo.

So often Beth has a foot in two worlds, sometimes literally; between being half-Hawai'ian and half-Haole ~ she wears her hapa nature as best she can, being a witch and a nurse places her tenuously between science and magick, being Kinfolk which makes her tread the paths between human and animal and a third again spirit. And perhaps not least, there's that line between her curiosity and her devotion to others. When Matt turns up on her doorstep in the first breath of dawn, she is quick to let him into her apartment. She doesn't ask the how or why as she slips herself under his good arm, at the side he isn't favouring, and helps him over to the large comfortable wrap around couch. She speaks as she normally does, in that smokey-half whisper as if she would shatter like glass if her voice ever rose any louder. "Jus' gimmie a sec, an' I'll patch ya right up." What she wants to know is how often has he found himself like this. He'd probably mention walking down the wrong alley, tell her that maybe he had a disgruntled client. Something to assuage any sense of fear that might line her belly, but these would be half truths. And she can't pry his secrets out of him. When he wants to share...or if.... he'll tell her. When she has her supplies, she returns to the couch and to his side. She picks at his shirt carefully and bares the bruised and battered flesh to the open air. Even if he can't see it, exactly, she meets his gaze. A countenance full of grief, of tenderness unveiled and she lets out a breath. "Oh, Matt. Dat's pretty rough. Lemme see if I can make it hurt less." Her fingertips all but hover over the marred flesh. A coolness follows that carries with it a sense of hesitation but also the tide of her heartbeat. Spiralling outward from that comes a sense of numbness as she spreads the salve against his muscles, and with it a trace of her magick. Nothing that he could later recognise as such but rather a simple lack of pain, an ease of breathing, a spark of healing that will cut down the recovery time by more than half. In that touch, she tries to ignore the unquiet ghosts of previous injuries that stretch back quite a while. "No kine broken, mercifully," she murmurs the lie with the utmost sincerity. Ribs are cracked, but within a couple hours, they will have knit themselves back together at her insistence. "But you must be so tired." When she's done treating the injuries, she drags one of her throw blankets over him and curls into his frame, before gently guiding his head down to her shoulder. She glides her fingertips through his hair. "Close ya eyes, get some rest, an' I'll watch ovah you. When you wake up, might even feed ya if you're hungry." Her breath is warm against his temple. And maybe, just maybe, Matt can pick up the subtle sound of Eddie Vedder crooning. There is no pain, you are receding. A distant ship, smoke on the horizon...you are only coming through in waves....

The morning had begun with a cup of coffee from Jay's, still steaming hot, alongside a modest cupcake with a candle speared through the blue frosting. Beneath the two offerings was a card enshrouded in a festive-looking envelope -- inside the card, a plethora of well-wishes and signatures from her co-workers. Her compatriots. Though there had been one conspicuously absent from the array.

Agent Coulson had been called up for mission oversight, or so the story had gone. It was up in the air whether he would make it back before the afternoon, and there was an unusual air of urgency about the afternoon in particular, though nobody seemed quite willing to answer why. Mack was maybe the closest to spilling the beans, though he caught himself with a warm smile and a quick wave of his hand. "Nothin' to worry about, Beth. It's all on the up an' up."

When the vaunted-yet-nebulous afternoon arrived, and specifically the hour of 1 pm, Beth was the recipient of a text notice from Agent Coulson... a missive instructing her to report to a most unusual location, and to consider herself off-duty upon arrival, which was even less usual than her destination. Why send her somewhere just to take her off the clock?

But the sight which greets her there is perhaps all the explanation required.

"Maybe you can show me a trick or two that'll help me stay on, instead of becoming bait." The already bedraggled senior agent offers her a smile. "Happy birthday, Beth. Or, should I say... Hauʻoli Lā Hānau?"

The coffee is good. Not just good but darn near perfect. She knows her Kona by smell alone, the coconut milk and dark chocolate compliment but don't over take the flavour. Her hanai-sister made this, and she couldn't be more grateful. This has to be Phil's idea, not many of the others know her well enough. The cupcake practically melts in her mouth and she loves the butterfly-pea frosting. She makes her wish surrounded by some smiling favourites. His is not amongst them. She doesn't complain. Despite suggestions to the contrary, she settled into her lab and worked on updating the files not just for the team, but has begun cross-referencing agents that have worked in the same areas, just in case they ever need a vector-registry. No matter how often she checks on Phil's status, or how anxious she becomes, no one seems willing to discuss it. Mack comes closest, but even he becomes a brick wall. Beth returns to her quarters and exorcises her frustration into a pillow, a scream that thanks to a little tugging of the threads of sound never actually makes noise. When the text arrives, all of her sags in a moment of sharp relief. A small aeon could pass before she ever unpacks the entirety of it with her therapist. But anyone who knew would understand the visceral gut reaction. She doesn't indulge in it for too long, though, as a moment later, she's grabbing the 'go-bag' that agents keep for just this kind of situation. She doesn't think about the implications until well after she's in the air. She hasn't heard of unrest in Central America...though that doesn't mean much. Her clearance doesn't get her the same information May or Fitz might have. A biological contagion outbreak? He would have had her accompany him. If he were injured or sick, he wouldn't have told her that she was off-duty when she touches down. And she does, right there on the beach. She stands there and stares for uncounted minutes. She's always admired and appreciated Phil Coulson. He makes for a fantastic boss; kind, caring, protective. He treats every member of his team with respect, allowing them a lengthy leash and lets them shine in their field. But nothing about this explains why she feels her heart skipping a beat. Why her belly tightens. The wet suit fits him in a way his daily attire doesn't, form-fitting and giving away just how good a shape he is in, the subtle musculature. The sea air is tangy and familiar as it lingers on him. But it's the smile that gets her. She has to resist the urge to hug him. Beth finally snaps herself back to the moment with an arched brow and a purse lipped smile in return. "Good job on da pronunciation, sir. More dan dat? Mahalo f' remembering and for choosing... it's been a long time since I been back." Her relationship with the place she considers home is complicated and Phil knows more about that than most. But with all the effort he has put into this, she's not going to dwell on that now. Beth's modest low heels are ditched, as sand already has gotten into them though she doesn't mind. She reaches around behind her and unzips the pencil skirt, letting it fall to the ground unheeded, bearing shapely if not long legs. She pulls the white silk blouse free of her skin. And as has been rumoured, beneath her office-attire, is one of the many, many bikinis she owns, this one black and sleek and contrasting her dusky skin. "Gonna let me ride ya board, or do you have one for me stashed somewhere?"

I think you're right. It is not the first time he prioritizes being with his family in times of need. Since the first season there have been similar moments (Grace, Matt) and Steve always understood that Danny needed to be with his family. He supported it, even. I'm not surprised by the fact that Danny has not participated in the case, I'm disappointed because I love seeing him with Steve, but not surprised.

Hi, anon! Thanks so much for your message! And thank you for your opinion, letting me know I’m not the only one who thinks like this.

I had some conversation today with some friends about the episode and the character development and it has stirred up some musing.

But I don’t want to mix different topics and I want to answer your ask. I have to say that of course, I’m also sad about this missed opportunity to not see Steve and Danny in action. I have so many jumbled thoughts about what’s going on. But I try to stick with your message and your topic.

Things change and if I look at this particular episode it felt odd in the beginning that no one from the team has mentioned Danny. I felt off-kilter in the beginning to see him at home, securing the windows and prepare his house to withstand the storm. But yes, whenever there was something happening with Danny’s family Steve always told him to drop everything else and to go to be with his family.

I really assume they discussed this when the warnings for a Hurricane was broadcasted in the news. They sat down and cleared who was on call and who wasn’t. Maybe Rachel called to ask how to proceed and Danny ended up with Charlie and her at his house because of course, he would offer to give them shelter and to endure the storm together. Danny always needs to make sure everyone is safe. That was a good plan and Danny discussed this for sure with Steve. He agreed because they didn’t have anything important on their desks to deal with.

And the case wasn’t there in the beginning. There was nothing but the storm at that moment. The phone call came later and suddenly there was so much going on but the intensity of the storm already picked up force and there was not even a chance to call Danny for back up. It felt like a solid decision that Danny wouldn’t work this night.

I deduce this from the way Steve came by quite early the next morning to check in and to make sure everything was fine. Although he also wanted to make sure Danny and Rachel didn’t end up in a fight or worse - end up together. Steve’s facial expression is my compass in this complicated, difficult and scatterbrained situation. And he seemed genuinely amused. Not worried, not tensed up - just even a bit teasing and poking Danny with words.

But yes, I kind of hurt not to see Steve and Danny in the field. I long for those moments because they’re both badass and together they are unbeatable.
