Trapart Film presents “Mementeros” – A film by Vanessa Sinclair & Carl Abrahamsson
Trapart Film presents “Mementeros” – A film by Vanessa Sinclair & Carl Abrahamsson
As in their previous collaboration, Lunacy (2017), Vanessa Sinclair and Carl Abrahamsson began by collecting texts and assembling these for Sinclair to cut up, randomly re-assemble, and record. The sources in this case are various erotic writings by Abrahamsson and many others. When these had been cut up, read and recorded by Sinclair, Abrahamsson set them to music (a total of eight pieces).

Mitch Horowitz: Good, Clean Satanism
Occult writer and lecturer Mitch Horowitz reflects on his early impressions of Satanism and rediscovering the writings and philosophy of Anton LaVey.
I had once written off Anton as a showman and gifted musician with a instinct for the (virtual) kill. I saw his theology as little more than a secularized bastardization of British occultist Aleister Crowley, with a side of Ayn Rand’s Objectivist ethics and will-to-self thrown in. I was wrong.
As I recently discovered in cultural critic and occult explorer Carl Abrahamsson’s stunningly insightful forthcoming study Occulture, Anton had a more fully developed philosophy than I had realized, and he wrote with a depth and wit that has gone under-appreciated.

Occulture 2017 Lecture/Webinar: Anton LaVey - Magical Innovator
Already in The Satanic Bible, Anton LaVey had shown considerable creativity. Concepts like ”Psychic Vampire” and ”The Balance Factor” soon became household terms in America and the rest of the world. His description of the ritual space as an ”Intellectual Decompression Chamber” also hit home outside the strictly Satanic perimeters. As did the slightly later term ”Occultnik”, signifying a person who is lost within old structures of occultism without being able to see what’s really of use on a practical, material level. LaVey’s initial key works, The Satanic Bible and The Satanic Rituals, are great examples of creative appropriation and reformulation. But the two volumes of essays and maxims that followed much later, ie The Devil’s Notebook and Satan Speaks, genuinely contain the essence of LaVey’s wit and creativity. In these books, we find many fascinating topics: the integration of emotionally resonant music, stressing the ego, encouraging a sense of humour, artificial human companions, the total environment, a re-evaluation of slavery, the archetype of the villain, the third side of truth and much more. Join me for a darkside trip into the Satanic mind of Anton LaVey – magical innovator!
When? Sunday, December 10, at 20-22 GMT+1 / 11am-1pm PST / 2-4pm EST / 19-21 GMT
After the lecture there will be an opportunity for a Q&A/discussion.
To take part of this lecture/webinar, please send $18 via PayPal to: carl AT carlabrahamsson DOT com. After you have paid, I will send you all the relevant information/links. The number of attendee “seats” is limited, so please act fast.
More on the OCCULTURE webinar/lecture series 2017:
Art, magic, and the occult have been intimately linked since our prehistoric ancestors created the first cave paintings some 50,000 years ago. As civilizations developed, these esoteric forces continued to drive culture forward, both visibly and behind the scenes, from the Hermetic ideas of the Renaissance, to the ethereal worlds of 19th century Symbolism, to the occult interests of the Surrealists. In this lecture/webinar series exploring “occulture” – the liminal space where art and magic meet – I reveal the integral role played by magic and occultism in the development of culture throughout history as well as their relevance to the continuing survival of art and creativity. Blending magical history and esoteric philosophy, I look at the phenomena and people who have been seminal in modern esoteric developments.
My book Occulture – the unseen forces that drive culture forward will be published by Inner Traditions in March 2018. You can preorder the book HERE!

California Infernal is Back! 15% Discount at TRAPART Books
Movie star Jayne Mansfield and notorious Satanist Anton LaVey met in 1966. Both were publicity conscious and made the most of the meetings, which evolved into friendship. Almost always present was German paparazzo Walter Fischer, stationed in Hollywood and catering to image- and scandal-hungry photo magazines all over the world.
Fischer’s unique collection of photos takes us straight into the ritual chamber of the Church of Satan in LaVey’s infamous “black house” in San Francisco, as well as into Mansfield’s Hollywood “pink palace”. We also get to follow LaVey on excursions to his friend Forrest “Famous Monsters of Filmland” Ackerman, to Marilyn Monroe’s grave, to TV studios and back to Satanic weddings and Zeena's baptism at the Church of Satan HQ.
These were wild and narcissistic times in America. Few understood the power of media exposure better than Jayne Mansfield and Anton LaVey. Captured alone or together by master paparazzo Walter Fischer, this devilishly handsome couple made headlines that still resonate today.
The book also contains an introduction by legendary filmmaker Kenneth Anger, and forewords by writer Carl Abrahamsson and collector Alf Wahlgren.
Published in May 2017. New expanded "Mansfield Edition", with eight additional colour pages. We have worked extra hard to make this a spectacular edition, with more than ten new images compared to the first edition! 152 pages, size 21 x 25 cm, hardbound with dust jacket. Also included is a facsimile of the typescript of very last interview Jayne ever did (by Ivor Davis, published in the Daily Express, June 30th 1967).
Please also see the Collector's Edition!
Please also see the California Infernal Special Book + Prints bundle!

Magister Carl Abrahamsson Talks Anton LaVey in Rue Morgue Magazine
I was recently interviewed by Sean Plummer for the Canadian horror film magazine Rue Morgue. Sections of that interview was used for Plummer’s piece on Anton LaVey and his legacy, and the issue in question can be acquired HERE!
To read the interview in its entirety, please read on.
CARL ABRAHAMSSON / RUE MORGUE
What does the word ”Satan” mean to you now? And how has that word’s significance evolved for you over the years?
From having been a term that I used ”mechanically”, i.e. via someone else’s definition, I now look at it as a hugely important psychological cluster/complex which always takes on immense historical proportions. Satan is an overall term for a mechanism that makes the world move onwards. For me, the Jungian ”Shadow” is very tied in with this. The more someone represses his own shadow, the more he will live in an ”adversarial neurosis” which means living in a dualistically simplified world-view guided by fear. Satan’s main job is to fuck that up, and is thereby a hugely important energy in human culture. One could look at Satan as an ambassador of human intelligence and ingenuity if you will. The ones suffering from adversarial neurosis as a result of denying their own shadow could – and should – be looked at as mere utilitarian components.
Are you still a member of the Church of Satan?
Yes.
In what ways does LaVeyan Satanism remain relevant to your life from the time you first became interested in it? Has your relationship to LaVeyan Satanism evolved or changed over time?
It has evolved from a youthful interest in all-round ”occult” and weird phenomena to a deeper kind of philosophy and psychology that I’m actively working with on many personal levels.
