Follow-up to Halfa Dash AU
Believe it or not, Danny starts to get jealous of Dash. In his eyes, Dash got everything while he got little to nothing. Everyone in town knows Dash’s “secret” and work to hide him from the GIW or prying eyes. Valerie and the Fentons work together with him, and Vlad learned to let go of his anger a long time ago and isn’t in the picture.
When Danny helped in his universe, he was called a menace for accidentally causing property damage in ghost fights, half of which is caused by the other ghost attacking him and the other half is Danny being thrown at buildings or the ground, so he literally has no control over it! Even when he tried! He still tried to help the best he could, but it was never enough for the town.
“I gave all I could for them, and then some, but what did I get? Hunted! Torn open! I didn’t expect anything, not even a thank you!”
When Dash does it, he’s considered a hero, gets pats on the back, that kind of stuff. His fire core in still underdeveloped, but he warms up the area when he’s in ghost form. People love that, unless people are already hot and sweating, but no one lashes out. Danny’s ice core lowers the room temperature, and sometimes his body temperature. No one wants to hold hands that are cold.
As you can tell, Danny is pissed about this. He’s happy Dash doesn’t have to deal with what he did, but he’s still pissed.
As for Sam and Tucker, I have two ideas.
They went along with him to the alternate universe, where none of them existed, and all live and work together to get by and help each other out. There was no way they were leaving him alone.
The alternate Sam and Tucker like Dash. They think he’s a pretty chill guy, and they don’t understand why Danny keeps avoiding him or flinching. A part of Danny feels betrayed by this, even though he knows they’re not the Sam and Tucker he knew.
I think the last straw for Danny would either be Vlad or Lancer.
When Vlad comes into the picture, he’s not just… well, not a fruit loop, but he helps Dash! He helps him with his ghost powers, he teaches him, and Jack, and Maddie! He gives tips and advice on what to expect in the future and how to deal with it, and gives him his number incase he needs him!
Danny’s anger reaches a whole new peak.
If it’s Lancer, then it’s when he figures out that Danny has no parents and is living on his own. When he talks to Danny about this after school, he blows up at him. He goes on a rant about how Lancer thinks that he knows what’s best for him when he doesn’t know the full story. He lets it slip that he’s from another universe and had really bad experiences that made it hard for him to trust people and asks how he can be sure this isn’t a trap of some kind.
Eyes are glowing green, the room is freezing, and Danny’s cussing while trying not to have a mental breakdown and failing. He doesn’t want to be put into any adoption or foster care, especially with some strangers, and he’s determined to not let that happen. If anyone, he’d allow Frostbite to adopt him.
Surprisingly, this Frostbite and the one he first met are very similar and recognize him. It’s as if they’re actually the same! Like the Ghost Zone didn’t change, or at least, the Far Frozen didn’t.
Or maybe I can add the Nightingale Family from the PenPal AU! They’d be the one able to adopt him because he meets them all over again, and they’re some of the few people who are still the same. He knows he can trust them, so when they offer adoption, his answer is yes and a big hug.
I think that eventually, he and Dash might have a rivalry-type friendship. Ish. Danny’s constantly pushing Dash to get better with his skills. Dash likes to challenge him to a sparring match or race. Or maybe it’s like this closer to the start, but Danny’s genuinely mad under the mask. He’ll start to appreciate this Dash sooner or later.

In the Name-Epilogue
Ao3 appears to be down at the moment, so I'll add the link when it's up, but here's the whole epilogue. Thanks for the support! Eventually, there's gonna be more. Almost certainly a honeymoon fic, but I have another idea I want to work on first.
Here we go!
Epilogue: Eddie
Eddie’s sipping a whiskey at the open bar when he spots Buck and Tommy holding court at their table, standing with their arms around each other, so damned happy that Eddie can practically feel it from across the room. He’s been keeping an eye out for trouble all night because you never know. There’s been too much his family has gone through in the last few years and Eddie will get Buck and Tommy through their wedding day if it kills him.
He’s gratified to see that the Buckley parents really have turned a corner, which he wouldn’t have believed had someone told him it would happen a year ago. Tommy had even danced with Margaret Buckley and he only looked a tiny bit uncomfortable so Eddie supposes he’ll count that as a win.
“Gross, right?”
Eddie looks to the side to see that Lucy Donato has sidled up next to him. She orders a beer and turns to him, looking at Buck and Tommy (who have shifted position just slightly, but somehow still have their arms around each other) a little wistfully.
“They’re so in love,” Lucy continues and Eddie snorts.
“Try being around them more,” Eddie says affectionately. “They really are like that all the time. Being married now will probably make it worse.”
Lucy laughs as she takes the beer the bartender just handed her.
“I’ve been around them enough to know in the last two years.”
“Fair enough. Doesn’t take much.”
“So, Diaz,” she says, taking a sip. “Wanna dance?”
He’s about to say ‘sure’ when he spots Maddie motioning to him from the entrance to the reception hall, giving him the hand signal that can only mean one thing.
“Shit,” Eddie mutters.
“What?” Lucy asks and he turns to her.
“Tommy’s dad’s here.”
Lucy’s face clears of confusion and Eddie thinks she must know enough because now she looks pissed. “Seriously? He’d actually show up?”
“Yeah, Maddie and I worked out a way to tell each other without letting on to Buck and Tommy.” Eddie looks towards them to see that they’re now talking with Hen and Sal. They’re facing the entrance hall and he looks at Lucy again.
“Hey, can you just make sure they stay distracted? I’m going to go take care of this.”
“Yeah,” she says. “Of course.”
Then she turns to where they’re standing and hollers, “Hey, Kinard!”
Eddie has the presence of mind to snort a laugh as both Buck and Tommy turn to her.
That works.
He walks calmly over to Maddie before following her out the door and to the entrance of the venue.
“He showed up about ten minutes ago,” Maddie says. “Amanda thought she could warn him off with the Persona Non-Grata, but that didn’t work and she sent another employee to find us.”
“God, what an asshole,” Eddie says. “Tommy says he made it very clear he wasn’t welcome.”
“I know.”
They get to the entrance and Eddie hears the smarmy, too polite, voice that reminds him nothing of the warm way Tommy tends to speak. Even if he’s shooting out one of his deadpan remarks, he never sounds like this, like the person he’s speaking to is so far beneath him, they’re not even work listening to.
“...my son’s wedding, and…”
“You’re not welcome here,” Eddie snaps, stepping in front of Amanda, who had glided back when she saw Eddie and Maddie.
George Kinard looks at him disdainfully. “And you are?”
Eddie rolls his eyes, not bothering to introduce himself. “I was there when you accosted Tommy at his former workplace.”
George scoffs. “Accosted, please. I simply went there to have a discussion with him.”
“In which you made it perfectly clear how you feel about him and his husband,” Eddie snaps. “You were told not to come and I’m here to enforce their wishes. Leave. Now.”
“And who do you think you are to talk to me like th-”
“Mr. Kinard,” a familiar voice says from behind Eddie and he turns to see Bobby and Athena rushing up, Athena holding up her badge. “I’m Sargent Athena Grant of the LAFD. You were warned not to come. If you don’t leave now, I will arrest you for trespassing.”
He sneers at her. “You wouldn’t.”
“Oh please, try me,” Athena says, planting her hands on her hips, looking authoritative and a little scary in her dark blue gown.
“Tommy and Evan don’t want you here. Go. Now.”
He looks at them all. “Well,” he says with another scoff. “I know when I’m not wanted.”
“Do you, though?” Eddie wonders and Maddie stifles a laugh next to him.
George gives them all one last disdainful look before spinning on his heel and stalking off to the town car waiting some distance away.
“Thanks, Athena,” Eddie says. “How did you know?”
“I spotted your little exchange in the doorway,” Athena says.
“When you didn’t come back right away, I figured there was trouble.”
“Come on.” Bobby wraps an arm around her. “Let’s head back inside. I think they’re going to cut the cake soon.”
They all troop back inside and Eddie knows he’s going to have to tell Buck and Tommy about this but when he spots them at a back table, Buck sitting on Tommy’s lap, an arm around his neck and kissing him sweetly, Eddie sighs.
He’ll tell them in a couple of days. He wants them to enjoy tonight.
For now, he’ll go find Lucy for that dance.

Madara Headcanon
CW: NSFW. Pregnancy, period sex, anal sex
I love Madara headcanons, fanfics, scenarios, smut, meta analyses, fanart, and everything else to do with Madara. Been binging content the past months, but haven’t seen much on certain topics –likely because most people aren’t as degenerate as me? So I decided to write my own headcanons about Madara and an S/O who’s interested in pregnancy sex, period sex, and anal sex! Hope you enjoy.
Pregnancy sex
Madara is a traditional man at heart and can be a bit of a prude. While most sexual interests don’t bother him, the moment there’s potential for truly hurting a loved one, he’ll clam up. Pregnancy sex is where he’d think “Who does that?” in the most judgmental old man way possible. So Daddy Madara would need much convincing to participate.
In my mind, Madara would only father a child with a woman whom he already cares about greatly. He loves his woman and unborn child, is overprotective to hell and it would KILL him if he hurt his love and/or baby in any way. It doesn’t matter how pent up or needy he/she is, he’d push her off and tell her to behave. He’s soft with his pregnant partner (I’d like to think she’d also be his wife), so he wouldn’t tease her as much as he usually does when she gets this way. He’d distract her with (PG) activities she enjoys, take care of her, cooking her favourite meals and catering to her strange food cravings, massage her feet… which are fine wholesome activities, but not what she NEEDS!
Eventually the baby mama snaps at the poor Madara, who’s trying to do his best for his small family. She shows him evidence from literature and has permission from the doctor, informing him that it’s medically SAFE to have sex since theirs is a low-risk pregnancy. STILL, Daddy Maddy refuses her, citing his brute strength and the unacceptable possibility of hurting her or their baby. He’s also angry at this point, so the household would turn tense for a while with these two stubborn mules running it.
Madara may be frustrated (in more ways than one), but he’s unable to stay angry with his S/O forever. Her unhappiness distresses him and he slowly softens up again with her. He’s gone over the medical evidence that it’s okay to do the deed during the period when they were at odds with each other. Logically, he now knows it’s safe to do in their situation, but it still makes him uncomfortable. However, Madara ultimately wants whatever makes the S/O happy, as long as she (and baby) are safe.
The first time they have pregnancy sex is so beautiful. It’s been a long time for both of them. Madara would be so tender, ensuring he doesn’t put his weight on her, keeps his grasp gentle, and is fully in tune with how she is feeling. Though he’s feeling needy too, his queen’s needs are always placed before his own. He makes sure she knows they can stop at any time and that she’ll tell him if anything he’s doing is too much. It’d be like getting to know one another all over again.
When it later becomes clear the baby isn’t going to “fall out” and nothing bad passes, Madara would wonder why they didn’t do this earlier.
(They are responsible parents and stop having sex weeks before the due date)
Period Sex
Doesn’t bother Madara much at all. Blood? What’s the problem? At first he didn’t like the sight of blood leaving his S/O’s body, but he knows it’s a biological function and she’s not in pain nor injured. In fact, the orgasms he pulls from her body relaxes her and eases her symptoms, so he comes to enjoy it too. The blood getting all over the place isn’t cause for too much concern for Madara, who believes they can get most of it off without their house ending up looking like a murder scene. What they can’t adequately clean off, Madara will get replaced, whether it’s linens or even furniture. Madara just isn’t bothered by those sorts of things. The S/O however, is a bit more sensible and prefers the bloody murder sex on her heaviest days in the shower.
I can even see Madara and S/O taking a bath together while she’s on her period, the heat easing her cramps and mood more, bloody bath water be damned.
Anal Sex- also fem S/O here
So I don’t actually think Madara is a total prude. I think Madara would be open to anal sex if the S/O is interested. It wouldn’t be his first choice, but it’d be a nice bit of variety to change things up occasionally. He still prefers the pussy, since he has a breeding kink after all.
Madara would be generous with the prep and lube, the king of patience taking his time to loosen up the rear to accommodate his girth. Agonizingly slowly, he slips it in, inch by inch, until his hips are seated against hers. Her jaws drop. “It’s HUGE!” Madara laughs, telling her she’s had it before. Despite feeling the stretch and the sensation of being stuffed FULL, there was no real pain. He stays in place for as long as needed for her to get accustomed to the foreign sensation.
Madara picks up the pace over time. The view of her back exposed to him, completely vulnerable and trusting, her TIGHT HEAT surrounding his length, the notion that their activity is taboo… the moment has him undone. Madara wants to rut. He pounds the S/O with her ass up into the mattress to the music of her delighted screams.
His baritone gets even lower while he chuckles, “Is this what you wanted? To be on your hands and knees taking it like a dog? Such a naughty girl. Heh. NOW you’re embarrassed?” He taunts her and keeps his thrusts deep, stroking her back until she turns her head to peer up at her man, eyes unfocused yet filled with trust and devotion. Without even knowing it, Madara had his Sharingan activated, immortalizing this moment in his memory forever as he pushes in deep and fills her with his essence, determined to claim ALL of his lover.

"I exist in two places, here and where you are."
On ao3 here...
When Buck is sleeping on Eddie’s couch while Eddie is in the hospital, he doesn’t really think of it as moving in. He doesn’t allow himself to assign any sort of permanence to it, doesn’t take more than a single change of clothes or so at a time.
This is Eddie’s house, I’m not really a guest, he recalls telling Maddie a year ago and it’s true. It’s Eddie’s house. Eddie’s house where Buck has a key and an open invitation. Eddie’s house where Buck feels more comfortable than his own loft sometimes because Eddie is there and Christopher is there and the whole space is lived in and full of love and Buck fits, even though he knows, he does know, that he isn’t actually their family.
But when Eddie is shot…
It’s right that he should stay, that he should be the one to be with Christopher, but the space itself feels empty. Wrong. Buck feels wrong in it, wrong every time he steps through the door knowing that he doesn’t know when Eddie will wake up, when Eddie will be back, wrong every time he considers going into Eddie’s room even though he thinks vaguely that eventually Eddie will want something to wear that isn’t a hospital gown, even though he could sleep in Eddie’s bed instead of the couch if he wanted to.
He doesn’t. Want to.
He prefers sleeping on the couch, just like he prefers going back to his apartment to shower and change his clothes. It’s easier to pretend that way that everything is normal. That Eddie is at the store or picking up takeout and any minute he’ll walk through the door and roll up his sleeves and smile.
Maybe it’s silly to pretend when Buck can still see Eddie fall whenever he closes his eyes. When he can feel the phantom splash of Eddie’s blood across his face. When he can taste it on his tongue.
But he has to try. He has to. Because something happened to Buck in that moment, standing on the street and watching Eddie collapse as if in slow motion as the world fell away and his ears filled with white noise. He went numb and silent, couldn’t feel his own body, moved on pure instinct through everything that came after. He didn’t come back to himself until they reached the hospital, and even then—
Buck feels like he lost part of himself when he watched Eddie being rolled through the emergency doors and he hasn’t gotten it back. There’s a hollow space in his chest crowding out his lungs so he can’t draw a full breath, squeezing his heart so his blood isn’t circulating properly. He’s a shade. Half-alive. And the other half left on a city street, in an ambulance bay, in a hospital room.
It should have been me, it should have been me, it should have been me.
*
Eddie wakes up. Eddie comes home. Eddie heals.
Buck kisses Taylor. He goes back to his apartment. He moves forward. He’s happy.
He’s happy.
But the hollow space still exists. Any time Buck starts to think he’s finally moved past that time, starts to think he’s over it, he’ll wake up in the middle of the night with the taste of blood in his mouth and an empty ache inside of him. Inevitably, he stares at the ceiling and bites his tongue instead of calling Eddie in the middle of the night.
He knows Eddie is alive. He knows Eddie is fine. He knows. So he shouldn’t need reassurance at all hours. That’s ridiculous.
Eddie’s fine.
Buck’s fine.
He’s happy.
If he finds himself watching Eddie too often when they’re on shift, as if reminding himself that Eddie really is back, steady and solid and real, if he walks too close and brushes up next to him, if he panics a little when Eddie is out of sight for too long—
Well. That’s his business. He’ll get over it eventually.
Eddie’s fine.
Except—
The power goes out and Eddie goes stiff and quiet, like he’s trying to disappear into himself. The power goes out and Eddie nearly falls out of a helicopter before it falls several stories and crashes in a fiery heap. The power goes out and suddenly Buck’s looking around the hospital floor and Eddie isn’t anywhere to be seen.
And Buck can’t breathe. Can’t explain, feels crazy, but he knows that something is wrong.
He finds Eddie in an empty OR. Eddie is on the floor, his back against the wall, his head in his hands. The top buttons of his uniform shirt are open like Eddie is too warm or having trouble breathing, and as Buck watches, Eddie’s shoulders heave as he takes in air in gulping, shaky gasps.
“Eddie?”
Buck crouches down to Eddie’s level, alarm bells ringing in his head.
Eddie flinches and looks up. His eyes are liquid in the dark and his face is pale.
Buck holds up his hands, palms up like he’s trying not to spook a startled horse. He can’t be sure how aware Eddie is—he’s looking at Buck as if he’s looking right through him instead of actually seeing him, and that makes his throat get tight.
“Hey, Eddie, hey, it’s just me,” Buck says quietly. “It’s me. We’re on shift and the power is out, but everything’s fine, okay? We’re fine. You’re fine.”
You’re fine. You’re fine. You’re fine.
Except that it doesn’t seem like he is at all. And that’s terrifying. Because Eddie is the strong one of the two of them. Eddie is the one who has his life together, who almost never needs help, who doesn’t break. Eddie cracked jokes throughout his physical recovery, insisted on doing as much as he could on his own, made faces and complained about physical therapy and stubbornly refused to take his pain meds because he didn’t like the way they made him feel.
Eddie doesn’t break. But it seems like he’s breaking now, and that’s—
“Buck?” Eddie’s voice cracks on a whisper.
“Yeah. Yeah, I’m right here.” Buck slowly reaches out, telegraphing his movements so Eddie can move away if he wants to, and takes Eddie’s hand. Eddie grips it so tightly it hurts, but Buck doesn’t flinch, doesn’t pull away.
Eddie swallows hard. He blinks slowly. A glint of awareness flickers in his eyes.
“Remind me where we are?” Buck asks, because even if he just said it, he’s not convinced Eddie heard him. Or that Eddie is fully...there.
Eddie blinks again, takes another long shuddering breath, stares at their hands where he’s still crushing Buck’s fingers in a death grip.
“We’re—there was a helicopter—” Yet another breath.
“The hospital,” Eddie says finally. “We’re in the hospital. There was—an attack on the city systems—the power keeps going out.”
“Right. Good, yeah, that’s exactly right.”
Eddie drags his free hand over his face as his shoulders slump.
“I—I’m okay,” he insists. “I’m—last time this only lasted a few minutes before I was back to normal. I can—I can handle this. Just give me a minute.”
Buck bites back a comment about how how far from okay any of this is and focuses on the more relevant part of that statement.
“Last time?”
Eddie looks away. His jaw tics. He sniffs.
“Eddie.” Buck squeezes his hand. “It’s me. You can tell me.”
Please. Tell me.
“It was nothing. I was out shopping. I was startled by an alarm and I...collapsed. But it was only for a few minutes.”
Buck can hear echoes of himself from two years prior. When he was telling himself his leg was sore because he pulled a muscle, so focused on getting back to work, getting back to where and who he felt he needed to be that he almost died from a blood clot. Not wanting to listen to Maddie or anyone else when they tried to tell him to slow down, to cut back, to give himself time.
To give himself space to not be okay.
He hadn’t listened. And that’s him.
Eddie hasn’t given himself space to not be okay for as long as Buck’s known him.
Fuck.
Buck’s stomach drops.
“That really doesn’t sound like nothing,” he says, trying to keep his voice gentle, nonjudgmental.
Eddie shakes his head and pulls his hand back as he pushes himself to his feet.
“It was,” he replies. “And I’m fine now—see? Just like I said. I just needed a minute.”
“Eddie—”
“I’m fine.” Eddie’s eyes meet his and Buck catches a flicker of fear.
That too is familiar. The insistence of being fine because even the thought of the alternative is terrifying.
Buck sits back on his heels and sighs.
“We’re talking about this later.”
“There’s nothing to—”
“We’re talking about this later or I’m not letting you leave this room and we can talk about it now—up to you,” Buck interrupts. Eddie opens his mouth, closes it.
“Okay. Later. But we should get back to the others.”
“Yeah.”
Buck watches as Eddie walks out of the room. He can almost feel it like a physical thing, the tether between them—blood on his tongue and the numbing chill of panic and the piece of himself that he thinks he must have forced into Eddie’s body in the back of a fire truck when he was begging any god who would listen to keep the other man alive—it tugs at him to follow.
And he goes, because what else can he do?
They have a shift to finish.
If he sticks by Eddie’s side like glue for the rest of the night, that’s his business.

If I may be so bold as to throw one of these your way, could I suggest:
24. Soulmate AU + 57. Forgotten First Meeting, with Buddie of course
24. Soulmate AU + 57. Forgotten First Meeting
Okay, so, it’s like this:
The first time your soulmate touches you skin to skin, it leaves a mark. And over time (because in a world where there are soulmarks, you know there would be entire scientific branches devoted to studying them) the different colours left behind on your skin have been decoded.
Red, weirdly, is for platonic love, so when eight-year-old Maddie Buckley holds her brand new baby brother for the first time and kisses him right there on his eyebrow, well, it leaves Evan with a splotch on his face and saves Maddie just, like, so much money in lipstick for the rest of her life.
The marks stay connected, too, throughout a person’s lifetime. Touch them together again and it sparkles under your skin like an effervescent tablet in water. And that’s true of all marks, not just romantic or platonic ones.
For a long time, those marks are the only ones either Buckley sibling has.
When Maddie gives him her Jeep and Buck runs, out from under their parents’ thumbs, she gets him to stoop down and kisses him on the eyebrow again, and then they don’t see each other for years.
Buck travels. He crosses the US a few times, back and forth. He goes to Peru, he comes back. He crosses the US again, taking a long drive through the deserts that look like paintings that make up the southwestern corner of the country. He ends up stopping the night in El Paso on his way between places, stocks up on provisions for the rest of his road trip to LA where he thinks he might try his hand at being a firefighter.
He stops a few other places, too, and doesn’t notice until he gets to the beach in LA and strips off his shirt to go for a swim. There’s a livid purple soulmark on his arm.
And he has no idea who it came from.
Soulmarks aren’t really essential for relationships, at least that’s what everyone keeps telling him when, ah, circumstances conspire to mean that Eddie and Shannon need to get married. Due to the whole “lack of soulmarks” thing, neither of them had really meant for their relationship to be serious, but, now, well.
Things are tense, at best.
But Christopher.
Eddie’s still terrified, of course he is, he’s twenty-two and he’s supposed to be a dad? But in the delivery room, he gets talked into trimming the umbilical cord just moments after Chris is born, and that’s terrifying, what if he fucks it up, and Christopher’s little belly is so small and surely he shouldn’t be putting scissors -- even sterilised medical ones -- anywhere near his newborn son -- he has a son, what even is happening right now -- and he doesn’t really mean to but he pats Chris on the shoulder to try and calm him -- being born is just, like, a lot for everyone, parents and children alike, and Eddie kind of wishes he was allowed to scream right then too, but he’ll leave that to the kid (oh god he has a kid).
Bright red blooms across Chris’s shoulder and for a wild second, Eddie thinks that maybe, somehow, his son is allergic to him.
The actual significance sets in a few seconds later when he notes that the pads of his own fingers are the same shade of red.
All three of the grandparents in the room take it in turns to pass Christopher around and see if they, also, have this connection to their grandson. They don’t. And to make things just that much worse, neither does Shannon.
So, y’know, things are tense.
At best.
It’s years later, after Eddie gets back from Afghanistan, after Shannon’s left Chris and given up on Eddie, after she’s sent the divorce papers, that he’s finally deciding he needs to take Chris and get the hell out of Texas. He hasn’t resolved to do this at all, he’s still just thinking about it (his parents haven’t tried to take Chris from him yet), and he’s doing his grocery shopping in the dead of night because he doesn’t really have another time to do it, what with working three jobs and having a six-year-old.
He’s so lost in thought about where they’d go if they left Texas and what he would do to support them that he’s only vaguely aware of someone bumping his arm as they cross paths in the aisles.
He doesn’t think much about it -- doesn’t really notice -- until he’s helping Chris with his cereal the next morning and Chris points out that there’s a big purple mark on his arm.
Chris wants to know what the purple marks mean, because he’s only ever noticed red ones, and Eddie doesn’t really know how to explain that it means Eddie touched the person he’s going to fall in love with and be in love with for the rest of his life, because he...has no idea who it was.
And so, mostly, Eddie tries not to think about it. He goes about his business, eventually his parents try to take Chris and they run for LA. He gets a job at the fire department and gets assigned a station.
There’s another guy on his shift who’s got a bruise-like purple soulmark on his bicep and -- according to Chimney -- a tragic lovestory to go with it. Chimney doesn’t know the tragedy, but offers some gossipy suggestions.
Buck doesn’t really like Eddie at first, but his posturing reminds Eddie just a little of a golden retriever trying to be fierce when you know the only thing going on in a golden’s head is fluff and love.
They pull a grenade out of a guy’s leg, and Buck likes him after that.
Hell, they survive an earthquake together with absolute aplomb, and Buck spends the whole time reassuring Eddie that Chris is gonna be fine. Buck doesn’t even know Chris, but it makes Eddie feel better.
It happens on their fourth shift.
They go to this dumbass call where a woman’s gotten her head stuck in a tailpipe at a cowboy bar -- Eddie wants to be haughty about the bar’s trappings in born-and-raised Texan, but, well, he’s been to pretty much this exact bar back home -- and both Buck and Eddie get hit on by the assembled onlookers. Usually, Eddie’s noticed, the soulmark on his arm deflects random flirting way better than his wedding ring ever had, but these women are drunk and he’s a firefighter so it could very easily be a bruise.
As they walk back towards the engine, Buck starts teasing Eddie about his apparent disinterest in the women. Eddie starts to fire back about Buck living in his invisible girlfriend’s house, but their arms brush together.

Some things about Vlad don’t really make sense
Like, in the greater scheme of things. When you look at the entirety of his canon depictions they don’t really add up to make a cohesive whole.
For example there’s times in which he’s shown to have the potential to be reformed, and others where he’s shown to be irredeemable by nature.
When he’s first introduced he doesn’t have a motivation beyond getting his revenge on Jack and convincing Maddie to marry him. He doesn’t even care about what happen to Jazz and Danny, or even consider them among his plans up until he learns that Danny is a half-ghost like him.
The desire to rule the world is something introduced later on. One that eventually seems to supersede his desire to marry Maddie, kill Jack, and have Danny as his son. In Infi-map he doesn’t ask this map that can supposedly take him anywhere to take him to a version of Maddie who will love him, he asks it to take it where he’ll be able to rule undisputed as king. Something I can’t even see him doing in season 1, in which his primary focus was Maddie, or season 2 when his primary focus became getting Danny to be his son.
The version of Vlad shown in Ultimate Enemy is particularly interesting to me.
He doesn’t return to Amity Park to try and help the humans defeat Dan Phantom. Instead choosing to hide out completely isolated from the rest of humanity. In the ruins of the building where the end of everything began. Lingering instead on his personal regrets. Vlad doesn’t really seem to view the state of his current time as Phantom’s fault, but his.
This version of Vlad, who is a direct splinter version from the one in the rest of the show, cared for Danny for some time before being worn down into separating Danny’s human and ghost halves. And presumably cared enough for the Danny he remembered to help our Danny get back to his present and stop this whole thing from happening.
Vlad continued to care for Danny, years after the incident that turned him fully human, and killed Danny’s human half. To the point that he couldn’t bring himself to hunt Phantom down, not even to protect the rest of the world from the monster he had a direct hand in creating. Which we know he could have done, because even if he wasn’t half ghost anymore he still had a decades in developing Ghost Fighting technology. Even if he never got back on the battle field he definitely could have helped Valerie and her Dad with R&D of ghost tech. But he didn’t. Because he couldn’t bring himself to fight Danny, and he knew that.
To the point that when given the chance to kill Danny and keep that future from happening at all. Keep the literal apocalypse from happening. He instead gave Danny the tools to try and prevent it from happening himself, and trusted that this boy who’s been dead for 10 years would be able to do it.
In that episode it isn’t Clockwork randomly having mercy on Danny that allows him the chance to fight and try and defeat Dan Phantom and change his future under his own power, it’s the kindness of Vlad Masters (of all individuals) that gives him that chance. It’s Vlad Masters’ faith in Danny’s morals and fighting ability, that allows him the opportunity to face Dan head on. Clockwork doesn’t step in to save Danny’s family until he manages to fight and defeat Dan on his own terms, he doesn’t cast judgment or give assistance until he knows Danny could defeat Dan on his own.
This is a version of Vlad that chose Danny over the chance of saving both dimensions. This is a man who I whole heartedly believe saw Danny as his son.
And it’s just a bit confusing when you consider the fact that this version of Vlad splintered from the main story, literally not too long before the main version of Vlad started his cloning experiments. Considering Danny uses the Ghostly Wail, which we know he learned in the Ultimate Enemy incident, against Vlad during Kindred Spirits. Meaning the version of Vlad who couldn’t bring himself to kill Danny even if it meant saving all of reality, and the version of Vlad who was doing human experimentation and ultimately viewed Danny as a stepping stone to getting his perfect half-ghost son, are right next to each other on the great tree of splitting timelines. Somehow the all human, all the time Vlad from Masters of All Time has far more in common with main timeline Vlad personality wise, than Ultimate Enemy Vlad. Even though all those things that main timeline Vlad was supposedly evil for, like not having Maddie’s love, and the accident trapping him in the hospital for a decade, didn’t happen to him. But they did happen to Ultimate Enemy Vlad. Who went on to then loose Maddie and Jack before anything involving them got resolved, become a foster father, and then cause the untimely death of said foster son, loose the powers he’d been mastering for two decades, and start the apocalypse all in one fell swoop. Oh, and he became a hermit hobo living in the ruins of the house where his foster son died, and the monster that remained of him was lowkey hunting him down to murder. That also happened to him.
...How’d that guy turn out to be the best person being of the bunch. Like- I just want an explanation. Why’d he have to literally cause the end of two dimensions to be a decent person? Someone explain please.

Danny Phantom Randomness (Vlad Masters If He Was More Like David Xanatos ~ Part 2)
Part 1: https://thesoulspulse.tumblr.com/post/669265373212835840/danny-phantom-randomness-vlad-masters-if-he-was
Hopefully you guys read part one to get an idea of how similar Vlad and Xanatos are but now, it’s time to get into the fun part! The what-ifs with a Vlad who isn’t just a fruitloop but a true villain who always has at least one plan in motion and wins even when he loses in most cases. There’s no way I’m doing a whole timeline for this but I’ll share a few ideas you are welcome to borrow!
On a side note, I got a DM about this idea and real quick I just wanted to say could you please hold on for a gosh darn a sec? Geez! Don’t go jumping to conclusions since I haven’t even finished my final thoughts about all this yet! That’s what this post is for!
The previous one was just some basic comparisons between Xanatos and Vlad and I’m not planning on going into that much depth with this. I just thought it’d be fun to share again now that I have a bit more of an audience.
And yes, I am well aware that Xanatos eventually mellows out to be more of a snarky rich friend to the Gargoyles, but that’s yet another reason I think Vlad would have been cool as a more Xanatos-like character since it would have made a redemption arc ACTUALLY possible. Whereas canon Vlad is a straight up bad guy despite how much I love the rivalry between him and Danny, which as we all know devolved into Vlad doing some especially evil things to him and his family. Not to mention the citizens of Amity Park (and the world which we won’t talk about) as a whole.
But moving on...let’s wrap this up shall we?
Vlad As A More Refined Villain:
For starters, after meeting Maddie again he quickly realizes she’s not the woman he remembers and decides to focus more on his revenge on Jack instead. Although he still holds her in high regard and goes out of his way to make sure Maddie and her two children aren’t caught in the middle of his schemes. This version actually has a moral code after all.
Vlad becomes personally invested in Danny once he discovers he’s half ghost and makes a more compelling argument later as to why Jack deserves to be punished in his eyes. But he doesn’t want to kill his former college buddy, he just wants to make his life hell. What’s more, when Vlad makes his offer to Danny to join him, he gives him time to think about it after pointing out that even if his parents could accept him...the stress of being half-ghost living in a household of ghost hunters isn’t exactly safe for him.
From there, Vlad doesn’t just monologue his ‘evil plans’ to Danny, no, he’s much more sly about it and only reveals said plans when he feels like there’s something to gain for it or something Danny could learn from him since he’s also trying to secretly mentor Danny too by challenging him with various types of ghostly adversaries.
Once Vlad feels Danny’s strong enough to actually handle a real fight with him, he does a lot more of his own dirty work to go toe to toe with the ghost-fighting teen so he can measure his progress personally, otherwise he still uses the Red Huntress to keep tabs on Danny...
Plus, Vlad still has a soft spot for Danny and wants to see him grow stronger and perhaps realize on his own that it’s honestly thanks to their rivalry that Danny pushes the limits of his powers to discover new ways to fight ghosts and such.
Think about it, without Vlad, sure Danny would have kept training but he wouldn’t have had that serious wake up call that there are ghosts more powerful than him out there and there’s always the chance one day he’ll get killed in a fight if he doesn’t learn how to make the most of his abilities.
I’d also love if he had an employee/secretary like Owen (the irony since my main Danny Phantom oc is named that lolz) that Vlad not only spars with, but trusts enough to work alongside him. Most likely this will be a ghost in disguise that helps him manage his businesses as well as other day to day affairs because Vlad IS still not only the richest man in the world, but also a businessman.
Vlad doesn’t have time to focus on Danny 24/7, he has other schemes up his sleeve, relics to locate, stuff to steal, all that jazz so basically think of this ghost as the replacement to the Maddie Program. In fact, Vlad doesn’t even have such a thing since his crush on Maddie wasn’t quite so obsessive although he would like to find a way to get Maddie to leave Jack of her own free will so he’ll have an excuse to play the part of “a good friend” consoling her and her children in these hard times.
Speaking of which, like I said since Vlad doesn’t want to waste Jack, he just wants to make him look bad and dangerous to Maddie’s family so he does everything in his power to use Jack’s weaknesses against him like his obsession with ghosts, anger issues, and impatience when it comes to testing their latest anti-ghost inventions before making sure they’re not dangerous to the user as well.
Eventually, Vlad meets a special someone who finds out his secret and rather than feeling repulsed she’s fascinated by it and falls for his charms naturally. Or as yet another plot twist, maybe instead of making Valerie a ghost hunter Vlad made this woman one instead who has no personal connection to Danny but has actual combat training just like Maddie, aka someone he hired just like Xanatos created and hired The Pack in Gargoyles.
Honestly, I think the idea of Vlad finding someone else just as smart as him who accepts that he’s half-ghost and just as clever would be amazing. Better yet, she helps him get over Maddie by pointing out she’s taken and probably just as problematic as Jack Fenton so they should work together to get Jazz and Danny taken away from them. Because while Vlad’s interest lies in Danny, hers lies in Jazz since his older sister reminds her of herself in many ways.
After that they work on making Maddie & Jack seem like bad parents and go so far as to get child protective services involved which Danny no likey so he tries to get them to knock it off. It’s not until Vlad’s new romantic interest becomes pregnant by some miracle that his focus turns to her since he does, after all, still want to become a father above almost everything else and he’s concerned about whether or not the child will be human or a halfa and what effect that will have on his lover.
Not sure if they should get married right away before the child comes in, but it’d be cool if as a replacement for Valerie being given the Ring of Rage to hide it, Vlad gave it to his love interest as a gift instead but it has a strange effect on her. In fact, it nearly kills her and Vlad has to resort to asking for Danny’s help to get the darn thing off her before it turns her into a ghost.
But yeah, lots of things happen either way and once Vlad ends up with a kid of his own and mellows out he defaults to being Uncle Vlad to Danny and makes the same offer he did before to train him until his own kid is old enough for that too, even promising to finally stop trying to get Danny and Jazz taken away from their parents.
I could probably come up with more ideas but this is the jiist of it summed up:
Basically Vlad still has a personal interest in Danny and at least starts out wanting him as his son, but instead of trying to kill Jack when the mood strikes, he tries to accomplish this by attempting to get Danny and his sister away from Jack and Maddie through the CPS, although it’s no less rigged since he can overshadow anyone he pleases to get his way regardless of whether anyone sees the Fenton couple as bad parents.
Vlad eventually gets over his crush on Maddie when he realizes she’s not the woman for him and finds someone on the same level as him who is just as fascinated by ghosts, paranormal science and mystical relics as he is.
To replace those vultures Vlad has a new underling that he trusts that not only helps with his ghost-related schemes, but also helps manage his day to day affairs that’s loyal to a fault.
As soon as Vlad ends up with his own biological child, his fascination with Danny settles to wanting to pass on his legacy as the only other half-ghost to Danny until his own son/daughter is old enough to be tested if they have ghost powers too. Vlad’s romantic partner likewise takes Jazz under her wing but its purely academically since she can tell Jazz has a lot of untapped potential too.

I may live to regret. Asking anyway. 97. Angst/Fluff list.
oh, you want “It’s not that easy.”??? :)))))
backbone eddie/buck, eddie & bobby, speculaaaation so 4x04 trailer spoilers
Bobby comes up the stairs, unsurprised to see Eddie sitting by himself at the table. He sighs, coughs slightly to keep from startling him, and says, “You want something to eat?”
“No,” Eddie says immediately.
Rounding the table, Bobby catches the expression on Eddie’s face; shut down. Again, no surprise. “You should try.”
Eddie looks at him, blinks. “What?”
“You should try and eat something,” Bobby says again. There’s some extras in the fridge that he takes out. Normally, he cooks from scratch, but nothing about today is sitting right enough for him to do that.
“I want to punch them,” Eddie says.
Bobby sighs, leaning on the counter. “I know the feeling.”
Eddie’s fingers, previously splayed on the table, curl into a fist. “Even when I was fighting, it was always about hurting someone who asked for it, you know? Literally asked for it. If you were in that ring? You wanted to be there.”
It’s the most Eddie’s said about his fighting since they hashed it out. Bobby gives Eddie his full attention, but doesn’t interrupt. He’s got a feeling Eddie’s not spoken to anyone since he found out.
“But I want to punch them.”
“Eddie,” Bobby starts.
“You know what he told me? Sorry to bother you.” Eddie laughs, but Bobby hears the self-deprecation in it, the look of distaste on Eddie’s face. “Like he’s a burden. As if I wouldn’t care that he was hurting.”
Bobby knows the feeling. “He gives and gives. Thinks that means he can’t take it in return.”
Eddie shakes his head. “I don’t get it. I would give him—”
Abruptly shutting his mouth on the words, Eddie raps his knuckles on the table, looks off to the left. Bobby doesn’t ask him to continue; he knows well what Eddie’s not saying.
“He knows.”
“Does he?” Eddie finally meets Bobby’s eyes. He looks devastated, and Bobby’s not prepared for it. He sits at the table near Eddie and lays his arms on the table. “I’m not sure he’s in any position to hear it if he’s not.”
“Maybe not,” Bobby allows, “but he might like knowing he’s got someone in his corner.”
Eddie’s lip curls. “He knows I am. I’m not abandoning him now!”
“I didn’t say that,” Bobby said. “Eddie—”
Scrubbing his hands through his hair, Eddie sits back, folding his arms over his chest. “You know, when I look at Chris, when things get too much.” Eddie looks away, runs his tongue over his bottom lip. Bobby knows what to look for when Eddie’s upset and he sees it; Eddie’s mouth shifts, eyes starting to shine. “I think I’m still not over it.”
Bobby nods, waits him out.
“If I had turned up sooner, if I hadn’t tried to push things—”
“It’s natural,” Bobby says, “to go over the reasons in your head. To think about the things you could have done differently. Knowing now what you didn’t know then.”
Eddie snorts, shakes his head. “None of that makes it easier. Which is why,” he continues, closing his eyes, “I hated myself for feeling the way I do.”
Bobby raises his eyebrows.
“About Buck,” Eddie says unnecessarily. His smile is oddly twisted. “I wasn’t ready for a sexuality crisis this late in life.”
“It might not be easy,” Bobby says gently. “But what happened with Shannon, the things you went through, it’s tough, I know. But you’re gonna lose people. It’s inevitable.” He thinks of his wife, children, and it takes a moment to find his voice. “So why not take the chance?”
“Because it’s not that easy,” Eddie says. “Especially now, with this. He won’t even talk to me.”
Bobby nods, understanding. “The most you can do is be with him, Eddie.”
“All of us,” Eddie agrees.
“Yes,” Bobby allows, but he elaborates. “But also you. Just you.”
Eddie stares at him.
“Buck needs his best friend,” Bobby points out, knowing if nothing else kicks Eddie in the ass, that will. “Even when he can have Maddie—wants Maddie,” he amends at the look on Eddie’s face, “I know who he’d rather have.”
There’s a long silence where they stare at each other. Bobby aches for Buck, wants to know he’s safe and well, but he also knows—thanks to the prompting from his wife—that Buck’s emotions are wrung out by his parents being in town. Maybe he’ll want to see Bobby eventually, but for now, Eddie’s the one he needs.
“Take Chris,” Bobby says. “You know he’ll love that.”
Eddie’s mouth quirks up into a smile, though he stares off, out the windows of the station. “They both will.”
When the silence drags on for too long, Eddie finally breaks. He pulls his phone from his pocket.
Bobby moves, goes back to preparing a meal. He figures he’ll only need one, and preemptively doesn't start one for Eddie.
“Hey,” Eddie says into the phone, sounding softer than he has over the past few days. “Where are you?” Buck answers, Bobby can hear his voice, even if he doesn’t know what’s being said. “I’m bringing Chris so turn off whatever shit you’re watching.” Eddie’s smile turns a little more real. “You can’t lie, I know you have Nemo at least.” The smile shifts into a frown. “Tough shit,” he says, sliding out of his chair. “Because Chris and I are coming.” Then, quieter, “I don’t want you to be alone.” Whatever Buck says has Eddie closing his eyes. Bobby is intrigued, but he also feels like an intruder. It’s hard not to be concerned about both of them. “I know. Whatever you need.” Eddie pauses, the hand not on the phone has a white-knuckled grip on the chair. “I know. I’ll be there soon.” A pause. “Yes, with Chris.”
Eddie mumbles something else and Bobby heats up the stove.
“Cap,” Eddie says, and Bobby looks up. “Thanks.”
“You’re welcome,” Bobby says. Eddie’s phone goes into his pocket, then he stands awkwardly in the kitchen. “Tell him we’re here when he needs us.”
Eddie nods, looking a little lost himself for a moment. Whatever he thinks is gone quickly, replaced with the Eddie they know; straight-backed, determined, the hint of a smile on his face. He turns on his heel, heading for the stairs.
“And Eddie?” Eddie looks back over his shoulder. “Don’t punch anyone.”
“No promises,” Eddie says, but Bobby isn’t worried; Eddie’s got something far more important on his mind.

darling let me trace the lines
a flower shop fic for my beautiful @elisela <3
read on ao3
I. Birth Month Flowers
The bell above the shop door rings, but Eddie ignores it in favor of putting the finishing touches on the wedding arrangement he’s working on. There’s only one person who’d come in after closing anyway, and he’ll make his way to the back room soon enough.
He smiles as he feels strong arms wrap around his waist from behind and a chin come to rest on his shoulder. He puts the last of the peonies in place before turning around to greet Buck properly.
“Hi,” he says, arms coming around Buck in return. Buck’s smile gets bright and Eddie melts, like he always does.
“Hi,” Buck whispers, leaning in to kiss Eddie softly, sweetly. “Happy anniversary.”
If anyone had told Eddie a year ago that this is where he’d end up — happier than he’s ever been with the best man he’s ever met, business going better and better each day, Chris continuing to shine — he’s not sure he would have believed them. He would’ve kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, for every good thing to be met with something even worse, for the inevitability of sinking back into the darkness that constantly followed him.
But now, he has Buck and Chris and the rest of their little makeshift family to pull him out and remind him that he gets to keep these good things, that he deserves them. He still has days where that’s hard to believe, where everything goes a little grey, but then he’ll hear Chris’ laugh ring through the shop or see Buck smile, and colors come seeping back in again.
He kisses Buck one more time before stepping back to get a proper look at him. The first word that comes to mind is mouthwatering — dress pants cut just right, dark blue button down making his eyes even brighter. He looks like he just stepped out of a J. Crew catalogue, and it takes every ounce of willpower Eddie can muster to not drag him upstairs right now and forget about their dinner reservations.
There’s one glaring problem though, and Eddie reaches forward to undo the buttons at Buck’s wrist to roll up the sleeves of his shirt. Buck tries to pull away, but Eddie’s grip is firm.
“Eddie, come on, this is a nice place, they won’t even let me in the door if they see all my ink.”
“Well, it’s my anniversary, and I want to see it. If my very Catholic, ‘your body is a temple’ abuela can accept your tattoos, the maître d' at this restaurant can too.”
He gets both sleeves rolled up to Buck’s elbows and takes a minute to admire the ink underneath. They’re all more than familiar now, and he’s spent hours asking Buck about each one, like Chris did when they first met. He likes knowing these things about Buck, the little bits that are so obvious on his arms but have meanings that go much deeper. It’s a privilege, a blessing really, and it’s not something that he’ll ever take for granted.
Buck’s blushing by the time he’s done, and Eddie kisses his nose to get a laugh out of him.
“Okay, okay, go get dressed, we’re gonna be late,” Buck says, shoving Eddie towards the stairs. Eddie does as he’s told, quickly changing and fixing his hair, and he feels himself smile as Buck’s jaw drops when he comes back downstairs.
He knows he looks good — both the lady at the store and Sophia on FaceTime said that maroon was definitely his color — but it’s nice that the main person he’s trying to impress agrees too.
“You look— damn, babe, are you sure we have to go to dinner?” Buck asks, pulling Eddie closer by his belt loops and kissing him deep.
Eddie lets him, just for a minute, before pulling away, ignoring Buck’s groan as he grabs his hand and pulls him out the door.
~~~~~~~~~~
Dinner goes by without incident (minus a brief makeout session in the bathroom between courses) and is overall perfect. Eddie is full of food and flushed from wine and swinging his and Buck’s clasped hands back and forth as they walk back to his apartment because he’s so happy he doesn’t know what else to do. The smile Buck shoots his way only makes that happiness grow.
The nerves settle in a bit once they finally get upstairs. “So, I know we didn’t talk about gifts or anything,” he says, pulling Buck towards the couch to sit down. “But I had a vague idea, and Chris wanted to help, and one thing led to another so...I do have something for you.”
Buck looks almost relieved. “Good, because I kinda have something for you too.”
Eddie laughs and rolls his eyes — of course they did this with no planning — before going to his bedroom to grab the gift.
“Close your eyes!” he yells before walking back in. He gently places the gift in Buck’s lap and sits back down beside him.
“Okay, open.”
Buck does and looks down, eyes widening as he does. He traces a finger reverently over the leather cover of the book in front of him, stopping as he gets to the edge of the picture laid in the middle — the two of them and Chris at the beach, matching sunglasses and big smiles. It was their first “family day” after they got together, and the first time Eddie knew, with complete certainty, that this was all he wanted — all he needed — for the rest of his life.
“These are all from the past year,” he says as Buck starts flipping through, like that wasn’t obvious. But he’s nervous and Buck hasn’t said anything so he’s just...riffing. “Even Abuela had some that I didn’t know about. Chris added all the drawings, the ones you two have been working on, and he suggested the pressed flowers because I was teaching him how to press them anyway. It’s mostly jasmine because I know those are your favorite, and they mean ‘sweet love’ so it...fit.” Buck’s still quiet, slowly flipping through the pages. “I know it’s a little cheesy, but—”
“It’s perfect,” Buck says, voice rough. When he finally looks at Eddie, his eyes are shining. “I just can’t believe it’s only been a year and we’ve done all this.”
“There’s blank pages too,” Eddie says, tapping the back of the book. “For when we need them.” Not if we need them, because Eddie doesn’t feel presumptuous in thinking — knowing — that they’ll need those blank pages, and probably a couple thousand more.
Buck smiles and reaches up, cupping Eddie’s cheek. “I love it. I love you. Thank you.” He kisses him once, twice, three times before closing the book and setting it on the coffee table.
“My turn?” Eddie asks. Buck nods and stands up, smile gone and replaced with a nervous grimace.
“So, first things first, I meant to talk to you about this before it happened,” Buck says. “But then I told Chim and Maddie about it, and they said it would be better as a surprise, and they’re very persuasive when they want to be, and she didn’t have a lot of time last week, so I—”
“Buck,” Eddie says, standing up too. “It’s okay. Whatever it is, I’m sure I’ll love it.”
Buck’s eyes flit back and forth between his for a minute before he nods and starts unbuttoning his shirt.
“Oh, it’s that kind of present?”
Buck just laughs and rolls his eyes. He finishes unbuttoning and shrugs his shirt off, revealing his bare chest and more tattoos that Eddie’s become intimately familiar with over the past year. He’s traced each of them with his fingers and his tongue, knows their stories, could probably draw them from memory if someone asked him to.
Except one.
It’s healed but still fresh, stark on Buck’s skin compared to some of the older, faded ones. The design is simple but clear, and obviously Maddie’s work: a marigold and a daisy, crossed at the stems, tied together in a perfect bow by a piece of twine. And it’s right over Buck’s heart, in a spot Eddie knows has been reserved for something truly special.
“It’s beautiful,” Eddie says, “but how is it for me?”
“Come on, Eddie, you know what flowers mean better than anyone.”
“Sure, and I know marigolds are for pain and grief and daisies are for innocence. But what does that have to do with us? Unless you mean—”
He loses his breath a little because it clicks. Tears sting his eyes as he looks up at Buck, because he knows what he thinks it means, what he wants it to mean, but he wants to hear Buck say it too.
Buck smiles, soft and beautiful. “A marigold for an October birthday, like yours, and a daisy for an April birthday, like Chris’. The bow is actually a rose vine for a June birthday.”
“Like yours,” Eddie whispers.
Buck nods, but he quickly looks nervous again. “I know it’s kind of a lot, and maybe it’s assuming too much, but you guys are it for me. Really, really it. This is the best way I could show you that.”
Eddie reaches a hand up, traces gently over a petal, feels Buck’s heart thumping underneath it. Underneath them. A symbol of their family, so solidly formed that Buck wanted it to be a permanent part of him, woven into the tapestry of the stories he paints on his skin.
Eddie’s at a loss for words — so many big things he wants to say, but they’re all getting tangled in his brain, mixed with the sheer awe that this is even happening. Buck must take it as a bad sign though, because his face falls a bit and he starts looking around the room at anywhere but Eddie.
“It’s okay if you don’t like it,” he says, trying to grab for his shirt on the floor. “Like I said, I should’ve told you first—”
Eddie grabs Buck’s face and pulls him into a searing kiss. He’s getting better with words, with communicating his thoughts and talking through what he’s feeling, but sometimes actions still serve him much better. He does his best to pour the tangle of love and devotion and thoughts of forever into the kiss, and if his enthusiastic response is any indication, Buck seems to pick up on everything just fine.
They come up for air eventually, but Eddie keeps holding on to Buck, his thumbs gently tracing the blush on his cheeks. He just looks, takes this moment in, floored by the fact that even when he thinks things can’t get better, that he’s used up all his good fortune and reached the peak of whatever happiness he’s been allowed, Buck comes in and blows the roof clean off.
“You’re it for us too,” he says softly, earnestly. Buck’s smile is big and bright, and Eddie falls in love all over again.
II. Matching Rings
“You know you’re gonna have to get this redone, like, every year, right?”
Buck shoves Chim’s shoulder, almost knocking the ink out of his hands in the process. “You said you’d give us anything we wanted as a wedding present. And you’re only doing mine, so it’s like half a present. Be grateful we didn’t ask for money, too.”
Chim holds his hands up placatingly and finishes loading his machine. It’s just the three of them on the floor, Maddie in the back office doing something with accounting. The sun is going down, lighting the whole room up with soft, golden light. It hits Buck just right too where he’s laid back in Chimney’s chair, making his skin glow in all the places it peaks out beneath the ink. His hair is soft and loose and his smile is easy, and Eddie feels his heart pick up, like it’s the first time he’s ever seen it.
Eddie can’t believe he has to wait a week to marry this man. He’d do it right here, right now if he could. But it’s only seven days, and today they’re doing something just as permanent, just as lasting as they are.
This wasn’t part of the original plan. Everything else was set for the wedding — the venue, the food, the cake, the suits, everything, except the rings. They’d spent three separate weekends going to stores all around Los Angeles, scouring Etsy shops, talking to designers, and still nothing felt right. Nothing they saw felt true to either of them, as a couple or as individuals, and it was (on top of the general stress of planning a wedding) starting to get to Eddie.
“Screw it,” he’d said after another two hours of searching, closing out of another store’s website. “This is so stupid. The rings are the least important part of this, why is it so hard to find good ones?”
Buck pats his shoulder and sets down a mug of tea in front of him before sitting down next to him. “We could just get cheap ones for the actual wedding and keep looking after. Or skip the rings altogether?”
“No, I still want them,” Eddie said. “I just want them to be special. To be us. We’re going to be wearing them for the rest of our lives, we should like them.”
Buck nodded, tapping the side of his own mug, lost in thought. Eddie tried to search some more, typing every combination of “male wedding ring not ugly” in Google and hoping something stuck, until Buck suddenly grabbed his wrist, his eyes bright.
“What if we do tattoos instead.”
“Ring tattoos? Is that even a thing?” He liked to think he’d absorbed a fair amount of tattoo knowledge in all his years of knowing Buck, but he can’t remember a time anyone ever came into the shop for something like that.
Buck nodded. “They’re more popular than they used to be. And we could design them ourselves. They’ll need touch ups, but what’s more permanent than ink being shoved into a layer of your skin?”
He was right. Tattoos meant a lot to the both of them — what better way to truly bond them for life? Eddie smiled back, kissing Buck’s cheek. “You’re a genius.”
So now, three weeks later, design finalized and on their only free evening for the next seven days, Chim starts up his machine and starts on Buck’s left hand.
It’s a simple design — black, interwoven strands, tied together by each other’s initials on the palm side. To Eddie, the strands look like a ribbon of DNA, which makes perfect sense for how much Buck is a part of him, heart and soul and everywhere else in between. He’s intrinsic to Eddie’s very being at this point, and now everyone else will get to see it too, will know from just a glance that he is happily, permanently, taken.
He feels Buck snake his free hand into his own, interlocking their fingers and squeezing gently. He looks up, worried, but Buck seems fine, easy smile still on his face, brighter still now that it’s night.
“You okay?”
Buck nods. “Doesn’t hurt. Just like holding your hand.”
Eddie smiles and rolls his eyes, but squeezes his hand back just as gently.
Chim takes his time, meticulous as always, but he’s still done fairly quickly. He wraps Buck’s finger and cleans up his station before heading to the back to find Maddie, yelling “Congrats you two, don’t touch any of my stuff” over his shoulder as he goes. Buck just rolls his eyes before standing — his hand still clasped in Eddie’s — and leading them over to his own station. Eddie gets comfortable in the chair while Buck gets everything ready, and while he tries to take in the shop around him, noting the new artwork and paint job that Maddie just finished last weekend, his eyes always drift back to Buck, hands moving sure and quick as he cleans and fills his machine. Buck finishes up and catches him (though he wasn’t really trying to hide), smiling softly as he sits down in front of Eddie and takes his hand. The machine buzzes to life, and Eddie lets out a hiss as it touches his finger.
“Remember the last time you were here?” Buck asks, eyes trained on his work.
Of course Eddie does — he couldn’t stop staring at Buck that time either, no matter how hard he tried. He also remembers being scared, not of the tattoo, but of his growing feelings for Buck, how they were getting harder and harder to ignore but he still hadn’t felt like he deserved Buck or the pure light and joy he’s made up of.
Some days he still doesn’t, even after three years together and a week away from getting married.
But then Buck will come into the shop and launch into a story about a terrible client he just had, or come through the back door and plop down next to Chris to help with homework or an art project, or just look at Eddie with his steady, sure gaze, press a kiss to his cheek, and tell him he loves him like it’s the only thing he knows for certain. And Eddie will remember how well Buck fits into their lives, how easy it is to love him and be loved by him, and those doubts wash away as quickly as they came.
Buck shows him more love every day than any person should be capable of showing. Eddie can’t wait to spend the rest of his life giving it right back.
“Done!” Buck says. Eddie looks down at his hand and feels a beautiful warmth spread through him that threatens to bubble over in a laugh or tears or maybe both. Buck’s smiling too as he wraps Eddie’s finger and places a gentle kiss to the knuckle right below the ink, the promises of forever they’ve made to each other now permanent on them for the whole world to see
“So, a touch up every year huh?” Eddie asks as they leave the shop and head back to the apartment. Buck throws an arm around Eddie’s shoulder, pulling him closer as the cool night breeze whirls around them.
“Think of it like a permanently scheduled vow renewal,” Buck says, and Eddie does, his mind suddenly fast forwarding to see them 10, 20, 30 years down the line, renewing their commitment to each other year after year within the now sacred walls of Armageddon, older and greyer but still just in love as they are right now, if not more. It makes Eddie feel that warmth all over again, coursing through him until a laugh does bubble out of him as he presses a kiss under Buck’s jaw. He stops them walking and pulls Buck closer, kissing him for real — slowly, thoroughly, tangling their hands together and gently tracing over Buck’s ring finger, excited beyond words for the start of the rest of their lives together.
III. Ursa Major and Minor
Chris is being weird.
Which isn’t actually unusual — he’s almost 18, and teenagers are always a little weird about certain things. Eddie’s still not allowed to look in the bottom drawer of Chris’ nightstand, and at this point, he probably doesn’t want to.
But still. He’s being weird. And for that matter, so is Buck.
He can tell they’re hiding something — it feels like every time he comes into the back room, they’re huddled over the table, whispering about something. He tried to look over Chris’ shoulder once to see what he was scribbling in a notebook, but Buck had yanked it away and sat on it before Eddie could get too close. Whenever he tries to ask what’s going on, they just smile at him, the picture of innocence, and start talking about schoolwork or graduation or anything else until Eddie finally moves on.
And he loves it, really, that Chris and Buck have their own little thing at the moment, something that’s just for them. But he’d also really like to know what the hell is going on.
He’s sitting at the kitchen table, answering emails about orders after dinner, when Buck and Chris walk in. Buck has that mischievous, self-satisfied glint in his eye that always raises Eddie’s blood pressure a few points, but Chris looks nervous. He’s fidgeting with the notebook in his hands and has the same wide-eyed look he had when he opened every one of his college acceptance letters.
Eddie shuts his laptop and pushes it to the side. “Is everything okay?”
“Everything’s fine. Chris just has a question for you.” Buck nudges him gently with his elbow before sitting down at the table. Chris follows suit, taking the seat across for Eddie, looking nervous still but more determined. He takes a deep breath and finally looks Eddie in the eye.
“So,” he starts. “Tomorrow’s my birthday.”
Eddie nods. “Same day every year.”
Buck snorts and Chris rolls his eyes. “Yeah, Dad. And I know we already have plans, but I wanted to add one more thing for us to do.”
“Sure, buddy. What did you have in mind?”
Chris takes another deep breath and answers quickly on the exhale so it comes out like Iwannageddatattoo. Eddie tilts his head and leans forward. “Come again?”
Another breath. “I want to get a tattoo. Tomorrow. For my birthday.” He flips through the notebook in front of him, landing on a page and sliding it towards Eddie. There’s things scratched out all over the page but the final design is clearly circled — the Big and Little Dippers, each point made of small, hand-drawn asterisks and connected by even lines of dots. It’s clean, simple, and Eddie thinks it looks beautiful (though mostly because Chris put a lot of effort into putting it together).
“They look great, Chris,” he says, “and you technically won’t need my permission to get it tomorrow, but I’m sure I can sway someone at Armageddon to get you an appointment.”
Buck smiles and nods. “Already on the schedule. But there’s something else Chris wanted to ask.” He looks pointedly at Chris, who rolls his eyes again and nods.
“So I want to get this one,” he says, reaching across the table and pointing at the Little Dipper. “And I thought, if you want— you don’t have to, but—” he moves his hand to the Big Dipper. “I was wondering if you would get this one with me?”
Eddie could cry. He very well might with how fast he feels his eyes welling up. He and Chris have always been close — something he’s been thankful for every day of his son’s teenage years — but this is something else entirely. He got his first tattoo out of spite towards his parents, and now Chris wants to get one with him?
He’s quiet for too long, because Chris looks even more nervous. He clears his throat and reaches across the table to take Chris’ hand in his. “I’d love to. If you’re sure. This is a pretty permanent decision.”
Chris smiles. “They’re our stars. I want us to get them together.”
Now Eddie’s definitely going to cry. He remembers summer nights in El Paso after Shannon had left — when neither of them could sleep, so they snuggled in the hammock in their backyard instead and stared up at the stars. He didn’t know many constellations, but there were two that he could always find.
“They look like spoons,” Chris had said once, still small enough to fit snuggly to Eddie’s side.
“They do,” Eddie said. “But they’re not just spoons, they’re part of bigger pictures — Ursa Major and Minor, Big Bear and Little Bear.”
“Like a dad and a baby?” Chris asked. Eddie’s heart clenched — because he’d burrowed impossibly closer when he asked that, because he hadn’t asked about a mom, because he loves this kid so much he’d grab every star in the sky for him if he wanted them — and he ran his fingers through soft curls, trying to stay in the moment for as long as he can.
“That’s right,” he said, voice rougher than he wanted. “They’re always together, always protecting each other. Just like you and me.”
“Forever?” Chris asked as he placed his hand in Eddie’s.
Eddie swallowed, pressing a kiss to the top of Chris’ head and clasping their hands together. “Forever and ever.”
He meant it — he still means it — but the fact that Chris kept that promise with him too all these years, turned it into something precious, something worth immortalizing, it makes Eddie wish he could go back in time and tell his younger self that everything would be fine. That whatever doubts he had swirling in his head while laying in that hammock were for nothing — that he was and is a good father, who raised the best kid in the world to be full of joy and happiness and love, just like he promised himself he would the minute Chris was born.
He laughs as he feels tears fall for real, and Chris laughs wetly too, coming over to him and hugging him tight around the neck. Eddie holds on just as hard, reaching down to grasp Buck’s hand too when he feels him squeeze his knee.
He hopes those lucky stars are listening when he sends up a thank you for giving him this family.
“I love you, Dad,” Chris says.
Eddie untangles them enough to take Chris’ face in his hands, get a good look at his son — his beautiful, perfect boy, who’s becoming a better man than Eddie could’ve ever hoped for.
“I love you too, kid. Forever and ever.”
~~~~~~~~~~
Chris goes first the next day, brave face on until Buck starts up the machine and brings it to the inside of his bicep.
He grabs Eddie’s hand and squeezes hard. Eddie doesn’t let it go.

Mettaton’s Backstory:
This is part two of my ghost meta. I’d highly recommend reading part one first, which should be right below this post on my blog. It’s titled “Chara, The Fourth Blook Cousin” and it has the background for how I think ghost might work.
I mostly talked about Undertale ghosts in general and how they could explain Chara’s mysterious presence in the game, but now I want to talk about Mettaton, Maddy and Napstablook, and explain my thoughts on their backstories, why they’re different from other ghosts, how they became a family. Because I think about them literally nonstop
METTATON
He is the baby of the cousins (until Chara comes along)
Ghosts dont age (unless they become corporeal) and the cousins (again except Chara who’s like 12) are all basically in their twenties, but MTT is slightly younger than Maddy and Blooky
And also he was formed extremely recently compared to them
I’ll explain them in depth later but they've both got a few centuries and Mettaton is like,, 70
Literally even Chara was formed longer ago than he was, but Chara doesn’t get adopted by the Blook family for a few decades so he joins first
So Mettaton is in this infuriating state where he is old enough to be losing track of years and struggling to keep up with technology and memes
But at the same time he talks to his cousins and they're like “Infant. Baby Boy. Imagine keeping track of what decade it is, you're so small”
He ends up being the self-designated cousin in charge of keeping track of time and pop culture and whatnot out of spite
He’s like “I’ll never forget what's relavent, its not because i’m baby, its just because i am better than you”
Tiny recap from my previous post- I think ghosts are formed when monsters die while completely unsatisfied,
the ghosts have no memory of who they were and they don't have souls unless and until they become corporeal, but they get their personality and some habits from whoever they were
And mettaton starts out being completely obsessed with this
He wants to know who he was and what life mission he left unfinished
He’s like “its gotta be super important because the universe literally made me immortal so i could finish it”
But figuring it out is… hard
It can take ghosts years to form after someones death and theres just so many monsters its impossible to narrow it down
When he does research he makes a lot of friends with monsters who have recently lost loved ones and he actually gets really good at talking to them and listening to their stories and letting them vent
This is a huge part of the reason he never starts to fade or sink into depression like most ghosts do at first, because he has people to talk to who need him
But also while doing research, he realizes that there’s no one he can find who he WANTS to be?
He’s like “yeah these all seem like they were cool monsters when they were alive but none of them seem like me?”
He has little hints of who he was, he knows he hates being alone and needs people near him always, he knows he’s super curious about learning about other people and reading dramatic stories and listenifn to gossip,, and he is for some reason extremely curious about humans, he knows he loves the color pink and the concept of the stars,,, but like,,, none of those are a life mission,,, they're just little quirks
So anyway like a year in to becoming a ghost, he is being emo and crying about this in waterfall when Maddy finds him and is like “shut up, youre scaring the snails” and he’s like “fight me right now… OH MY GOSH ARE YOU HOLDING A SNAIL THATS THE CUTEST THING EVER”
Maddy and Blooky do not invite him to join their family, he literally adopts himself
He is like. Lovely. Pretty farm. I live here now. I am building a house. I work here now. You are both my cousins.
And they just accept it.
He doesn’t ever really introduce himself to them officially?
He’s still convinced he needs to know who he was, so he’s kind of terrified of having his own opinion on his name or gender or anything because what if he’s wrong?
They both try to ask him who is is or anything about him but he’s just like “Nope Nope Nope, you are not allowed to percieve me yet. Give me attention but do Not perceive”
But he is happy to talk about the snails and to listen about how to care for them
Also he wants to learn more about ghosts because most other ghosts are just little lumps of sadness and regret who dont rlly talk so he tries to like,,, just lay on the floor in blooky’s house and see if theyll tell him things,, or he’ll just bother them until they tell him things
Blooky is the one who introduces him to music, and its mostly by accident
Mettaton is like,, actually fascinated by Blooky’s love of music and is like,, “wait IS it fulfilling? Is THIS what you died to do? Is it your greater purpose? Does it make your life worth living and make everything right and the stars align as you realize who you were before??”
And Blooky is like “I like… drum… sticks go click click and it is nice…”
And Mettaton is like “fascinting.. tell me more.”
So thats how Mettaton gets music lessons from Blooky
He also encourages them to play their music for others and start a band
Which Blooky ends up loving so so much
They dont like talking to strangers but they love performing, its a completely different energy
and thats also how mettaton is introduced to performance
And he’s like “oh. Oh ho ho. This is pretty nifty”
So anyway he continues trying to figure out who he was but he’s also kept more busy and realizes that just. Doing stuff is good
He starts a bunch of clubs and activities and stuff because he adores meeting people and being in the center of attention
Until eventually he makes the human appreciation club and meets a certain lizard
And she REFUSES to talk about herself and Mettaton doesnt know what to do with himself because SOMEONE’s gotta be vulnerable
So it takes him all of two minutes to start gushing about how he’ll never know who he was meant to be and it sucks because how can he ever be himself or become corporeal if he doesnt know what he was supposed to do or look like or be
And alphys is like. “Oh. I could try designing something for you. What do you want to look like?”
And mettaton is like. “Wait. I am allowed to want? I thought i was just. Something. And i have to find it.”
And alphys is like… “listen i am not a ghost expert but i feel like if u could be anything, why not be? Do u want pink swooshy hair?”
And he’s like “oh my god yes please”
He doenst tell his cousins because it still feels illegal to him to just. Decide who he WANTS to be instead of being who he was meant to by the universe
Literally neither of them would care, both of them are so confused by his destiny obsession anyway but unfortunately he is stupid
And then he moves in with alphys while she makes his body and he is just so so happy and he gets to choose what kind of character he’s reborn as
And eventually ofc he does tell his family and they are like “you are stupid. I love you”
#mettaton#undertale#ut#ut meta#chara#mtt#ghost chara au#meta#ut fic#fic tag#analysis#napstablook undertale#mettaton undertale#undertale mtt#eventually i will do maddy and blooky as well but this got long#so have a mettaton post#love him#i have a thousand interpretations of him#but this is the interpretation ive gone with in this particular thread of analysis#with the ghost fam#but i love other people’s interpretations too#please dont feel like im saying youre wrong if you have another interpretatikn#there are SO MANY incredible interpretatikns of him

Buddie prompt #3: 9-1-1 & Lone Star crossover idea
I’m putting this idea here for someone to claim if they wish. It was originally posted on Ao3 (now with additions), but deleted it due to ToS. If anyone wants this prompt, please comment below so I can delete it after you copy it to prevent similar stories.
His breaking point was a kiss.
One he knew he wasn't supposed to see. With anyone else he would feel like a voyeur, but all he could feel was a dark emptiness opening in his chest.
With Eddie’s truck being in the shop for a tie rod that had broken while at work, sending Eddie into a storm of cursing in Spanish, Ana had picked him up for their latest date.
And dropped him off.
If was a horrible fluke that Buck had stood up to look out the window at just the wrong moment. He should have been in the spare bedroom asleep after a grueling 24 surrounded by all the things he had brought with him when he moved in all those weeks ago.
Buck makes his excuses to leave while Eddie is completely confused and trying to get him to talk. Eddie tries to call Buck but he doesn't pick up.
Buck goes to see Bobby and Athena. It all spills out, including not feeling wanted by his parents. Bobby thinks Eddie is being an idiot but keeps this to himself. He suggests a leave of absence for mental health. Bobby receives permission from his superior to place Buck on open ended leave after giving him a brief explanation of the situation. Ending with him saying to Bobby, “That poor boy. If I ever meet that boy's parents…”
Bobby answers, “Get in line, but there may not be anything left after Athena gets them first.”
TK is surprised to find a sleeping Buck in his Jeep in the parking lot of the 126. An off duty Carlos takes him back to his place where he crashes on the couch. Buck has a nightmare and Carlos talks him down.
Owen calls Bobby saying he has his boy and they'll take care of them. He has a plan and discusses it with Bobby. The whole absence makes the heart grow fonder concept.
“Is it mutual?”
“I’m not 100% sure, but…”
“You can't tell Eddie. Even if he begs for answers for his son, you need to stand strong. It needs to be him asking for himself. If this goes wrong… We'll take Buck in here. He'll have a home with the 126. It will take a while, but we'll help put him back together as best we can until he's back on his feet. He won't be alone.”
Bobby wipes at his face, “Thank you."
“Let's hope this works.”
Eddie is worried and confused why Buck never came home. His phone is going straight to voicemail. Now he isn't there for his shift. Another man comes in and introduced as Buck's temporary replacement. Eddie asks Bobby where Buck is, but he won't give him a straight answer. Eddie is shocked as Bobby's tone is harsh and he glaring at him. Bobby later apologized and explains that Buck requested that only he and Maddie know where he is. Eddie tries to dig, but Bobby just shakes his head with a, “I'm sorry, Eddie. I can't tell you.”
Eddie asks Maddie, but she just slams the door in his face. Chim doesn’t know as she's refusing to tell them where Buck is. Chim delivers her handwritten apology the next day to Eddie. It states Buck needs space from everything, but mostly leaves out the part about Eddie (only one or two things that hint, but it goes over Eddie's head).
Athena almost breaks down and calls Eddie a fool before storming away to her police cruiser. She doesn't know where he is because Bobby refuses to tell her (which she finds annoying yet commendable), but she was there for the why when Buck broke down. She'll apologize after Buck and Eddie return. Hopefully together.
Filler with Buck and the 126 and Carlos. Judd takes him out on a horse like he did Capt. Strand. Fill a pothole on how Grace and him are so accepting of TK's sexuality despite being religious.
A Facetime therapy session where Copeland assures him its okay to get away for a while.
Eddie doesn't quite realize yet that he's slowly losing it, but the others can tell.
Paul and Buck have a conversation.
Christopher asking where Buck is because it's movie night. Eddie doesn't have an answer.
Eddie rages in the station gym trying to understand. He almost gets it, but he thinks Buck is jealous of Eddie, not Ana. Cue Hen groaning under her breath, "You almost got it, Eddie. Come on. Keep thinking."
TK, Carlos, and Paul take Buck out to a club. TK talks absentmindedly to the bartender, even showing him/her a picture of Eddie from Insta. Word spreads about the "new guy," Buck. Others keep the “creeps" away from Buck. Buck loosens up a little while there.
Buck Facetimes Christopher on Carla's phone, only for Eddie to walk in just as Buck is hanging up. He sees Buck's panicked/sad face right before he hangs up. He tries to call back, but doesn't get an answer. Carla huffs and shakes her head. "Figure it out yourself, hun. I can't give you this answer. You need to find it for yourself." Cue Eddie even more confused. This is all just about Buck's parents and jealous over Ana... Isn't it?
Roller derby to cheer on Marjan with the bartender flirting with Buck, who is all kinds of flustered. Carlos, TK, and the others tease him mercilessly.
A massive fire where Buck offers his help. Paul gives Buck as sidehug in gratitude.
Eddie almost punching the mechanic because his truck still isn't done.
Marjan takes Buck out to do something crazy because she's Firefox. (Buck is still starstruck). Maybe skydiving or they race each other at wall climbing? Cue competitive banter.
Owen keeping Bobby updated on Buck.
Buck eventually asks for a transfer. Owen asks if this is what he really wants. Buck just shrugs and asks helplessly what other option he has.
(Optional: Bucks gets up quietly at night for a glass of water and stumbles onto Carlos and TK having sex/making out in the kitchen. Buck either flees in embarrassment or is stunned into watching with Carlos and TK aware that he's there. All parties awkward and/or embarrassed the next morning until TK bursts into giggles and laughter.)
Eddie's relationship with Ana is rapidly deteriorating. Christopher has a full on tantrum. Eddie has to koala hug him on the floor, after Ana brings him back home from a not very good date as Eddie's thoughts were on Buck. Ana tries to help calm him down but Chris screams at her about Buck not being around as much as soon as she started dating his dad. “I hate you! I hate you!” He yells her to get out. Ana still tries to talk. Carla snaps at her to leave. She still tries.
Eddie is spiraling. Flashback of that kiss he really wasn’t ready for, but Ana had asked. It dawns on him that that was the night Buck disappeared. Why would Buck leave because of that? Chris is repeatedly asking her to leave, but she's not listening. She's not listening to his son. He finally snaps and demands that she leaves. She storms out. Relationship dead in the water.
Carla can only watch as Eddie breaks from it all.
The original plan has failed, so it’s time for the final attempt. A blatant hammer strike to Eddie's head to knock some sense into him.
Bobby calls Eddie into his office. He shows Eddie transfer papers from Buck along with a list of Buck's possessions to be boxed and shipped. Eddie is speechless. Thoughts of Christopher and losing Buck. He's losing Buck.
He shows Eddie an email he received and Eddie slowly scrolls through, It's full of captioned pictures. Such as:
-Buck staring off into the distance on a horse.
-Buck curled on a couch looking lost.
-Buck looking drool-worthy in club clothes. The caption: “Holy sh@t! If I wasn't already happily taken…”
-Showing Buck blushing as someone talks in his ear.
-Smiling yet not reaching his eyes while dancing.
-Sitting with his head buried in his hands on the engine’s bumper.
-Helping man a hose at a large blaze captioned with “Yes, we had permission for him to be there.” Followed by a picture of someone (Paul, but Eddie can’t see his face as he’s looking at the ground and hidden by his helmet) sidehugging a sweaty dusty still geared up Buck around the neck with a hand resting on his head.
A video. It's Buck spilling everything curled up in someone's arms (maybe Carlos or Grace). “Why am I always alone! What about me?” Mentions of Abby and Ali. His failed dates. Everyone pairing up. Losing part of his sister to Chim after finally having her back in his life after so many years apart. “And Eddie! Eddie… Why does love hurt so much?” mentioning Chris. Etc.
Eddie is shaking. It finally clicks why Buck left.
One more video. It's Capt. Strand and the 126 facing the camera. He knows where Buck is now - Austin, Texas.
“Buck doesn't know we're putting all this together. He’s asleep. We may or may not have knocked him out with sleeping pills.”
They all lay it out for Eddie. Eddie feels all kinds of stupid and blind. “Now, you have a choice here, Edmundo Diaz…”
“Why… Oh my god. This entire time… ”
“Do you love him, Eddie? As more than a friend? Or am I signing these papers?”
A few seconds after Eddie runs out of the room, a sigh comes from the speaker phone. “I'll get things set up.”
“Thank you, Owen. For everything.”
“You're welcome.”
The whole firehouse going up in a cheer after Eddie floors out of the parking lot in his thankfully finally fixed truck. Hen is shaking Chim or vice versa.
Carla agrees over the phone to keep Christopher after Eddie blurts everything out to her, ending with a “Go get him, Eddie.”
“Did everyone see this but me?” Carla is laughing as she hangs up.
Buck sees Owen call TK over and whispering in his ear. Tk has an interesting reaction before running out of the room with his phone already to his ear.
Flashbacks as Eddie is scrolling through his pictures on his phone while on an airplane. How he missed it. How he didn't understand himself. His fall had been so slow he hadn't even realized it until it was almost, or maybe is, too late. His seatmate makes a comment on his happy “family," and it’s a kick to Eddie's already flayed emotions.
Judd is there to pick him up at the airport, which surprised him.
He's dropped off at a club. Judd makes a snarky comment after handing Eddie a hotel room key card through the window. Eddie rolls his eyes as Judd drives off laughing. The bouncer, having seen the Diaz blazoned on the back of his LAFD shirt, waves Eddie inside, skipping the line. The whispering starts as soon as he enters. Word had spread and they had been hoping for Buck. “Is that…”
“I think so.”
He's shocked as the crowd starts to part for him. The music lowers in volume. People are staring and he's embarrassed, etc., but he sees Buck, who TK has made sure looks phenomenal. Taking a deep breath, he squares his shoulders and walks forward.
Buck is dancing between Carlos and TK. He feels Carlos start smacking TK on the back before they pull away from him. They’re both grinning so wide he suspects their faces are hurting. TK is not so quietly squealing in excitement.
A hand covers his eyes from behind. He immediately recognizes the body wash smell. “Eddie…”
Mini conversation/argument, neither realizing the club has gone dead silent, with Eddie yelling “Because I love you, you idiot!”
The entire club loses it with TK whooping, jumping with a fist punch, and laughing.
End there with a kiss, at the hotel room which may or may not get steamy, or Buck telling Christopher he's home with Chris tackling him to the ground.

Love Me Anyway (Please)
When Eddie hears a soft thump on his back porch at 11:07 pm, he’s got a pretty good idea of what or rather who, it is.
“Ed-Eddiee?” Buck slurs.
“Are you drunk, Buck?” He reeks like a distillery.
“You said you didn’t recommend hitting things.”
“Yeah, well I wouldn’t have recommended this either, moron."
Link to read on the AO3
When Eddie hears a soft thump on his back porch at 11:07 pm, or he’s got a pretty good idea of what or rather who, it is. Buck’s having a really hard time with his parents’ visit- and honestly Eddie’s been half expecting him to show up all night. Buck had been going at the bag pretty hard this afternoon, but he’s not like Eddie when he’s upset. He doesn’t like to be left alone. So Eddie’s even left the porch light on. But when he doesn’t hear Buck’s key in the door, and he does hear the boards on his back porch creaking like someone’s lingering out there, he knows something’s off.
He tip toes to the door, grabbing his baseball bat from behind the couch on the way- Eddie thinks his paranoia is understandable considering the shitstorm that has been his life the past few years- and he pauses at the door, hand poised at the door knob, and listens. He hears the soft but unmistakeable sound of someone breathing on the other side of his door, and his heart begins to pound, his only thought to protect his home and son. He counts down to himself- 3, 2, 1 and rips the door open, bat swinging wildly, and half way to its target when he realizes-
“Buck?!”
His best friend has tumbled inside backwards, losing his balance from having the support of the door he’d been leaning on so heavily abruptly removed. He’s clutching the wall now for support, reacting slowly and not at all defensively enough for someone who had just nearly been attacked with a baseball bat.
“Ed-Eddiee?” Buck slurs.
“Are you drunk?” Buck reeks like a distillery, and he’s not doing a good job supporting his own weight, leaning awkwardly against the wall in Eddie’s cramped entryway.
“You said you didn’t recommend hitting things.”
“Yeah, well I wouldn’t have recommended this either, moron. Christopher is home, you know.”
Buck looks stricken at that, and he immediately turns as though to leave, swaying clumsily as he goes.
“M’sorry, Eddie. I’ll go- Chris shouldn’t see me like this.”
Exasperated, Eddie tugs Buck back into the living room. Despite his aborted movement towards the door, Buck lets himself be led.
“If can promise to be quiet, he won’t have to- he’s down for the night. Where do you think you’re gonna go, anyway? How did you even get here, huh?”
Buck looks at Eddie through bloodshot, half closed eyes, “think I walked.”
Mierda.
Eddie hauls Buck into the bathroom and runs the sink, wetting a warm wash cloth and handing it to Buck. He finds the spare towels and takes stock of Buck again, who is staring intently down into the bowl of the sink, shoulders hunched, washcloth being gripped tightly and also uselessly in his right hand. Buck’s losing time in that way of drunken misery. Instead of just leaving Buck to it, Eddie finds himself in parental mode, running the shower and sticking his hand in the stream to make sure the temperature is just so, the action practiced from countless nights with Chris.
“Get in.”
Buck looks like he might say something, protest rising in his expression.
“Evan, take a shower.” Eddie says sharply, a military tone underlying the softness of the command
Buck’s face crumples, and his already reddened eyes sting with tears that don’t fall.
“Please, please don’t call me that.” Alarmed, Eddie lurches forward and grips Buck by the shoulder. He doesn’t often call Buck by his real name, but it’s never caused a reaction like this before.
“Okay, okay. I won’t. I’m sorry. Get in the shower, Buck.” And Buck’s nodding, obediently stripping and stepping under the spray. Eddie barely gets out of the bathroom in time to give Buck his privacy, and he feels the heat rising to his own cheeks as he catches a glimpse of his friend’s rippling back and ass. He’s unsure if the blush is out of embarrassment for Buck’s naked vulnerability, or if it’s out of attraction. Maybe a bit of both. Either way, now’s not the time for these thoughts.
Eddie busies himself in the kitchen, brewing a large mug of herbal tea. He winces when he hears Buck gagging, but he’s a little relieved as well. He doesn’t know how much Buck drank but he knows it was way too much. He’s glad some of that is leaving his system, however unpleasantly. He opens the bathroom door partway and wordlessly hands in a spare toothbrush. Buck, who’s upright again at the sink and now wearing a towel around his waist, takes it, clumsily. Eddie notices that Buck’s hands are shaking, fine tremors making their way through him. But Buck stubbornly avoids eye contact, so Eddie leaves again. If he thinks he hears a sob, he pretends not to- if Buck doesn’t want him to know he won’t push. He sets down two mugs of tea and waits in the living room.
Buck finally emerges wearing a pair of Eddie’s sweats and an LAFD hoodie that could belong to either of them. His eyes are clearer when he sits down next to Eddie on the couch. He wraps both hands around the thick mug Eddie’s prepared for him and lifts it to his lips. His hands are still shaking, and he sloshes some of the tea onto his hoodie, wincing at the heat, but drinking deeply.
Without looking at Eddie, he intones, “thank you.”
“There’s nothing to thank me for, Buck.”
“But there is!” Buck’s making eye contact with Eddie for the first time tonight, and what Eddie sees there all but breaks his heart.
“It’s what we do, Buck. I’ve got your back- you’ve had mine, and Christopher’s, more times than I can count.”
“No one’s ever-” Buck gulps and tries again, “No one’s ever…”
“No one’s ever, what, Buck?” Eddie prompts gently. Buck just looks up at Eddie, desperate to say something and unable to get it in the open.
“No one’s ever wanted me!” Buck bursts out, and now that it’s been said, he’s gasping for breath like he’s just run a marathon, his hands over his mouth trying to muffle the sound so that he doesn’t wake Chris.
Eddie feels that outburst like a slap to the face. It’s such a simple, raw statement that pleads for acknowledgement and tears and tears at Eddie’s heart. Eddie reels himself back from his first reaction- denial- because he knows it won’t be helpful.
“What makes you say that, Buck?”
“I always knew I was never enough but I didn’t understand why,” and Buck’s voice breaks a little on that word. “I was a replacement. And not a good one.”
“What are you talking about, Buck?” Eddie asks softly.
“I never knew, but Maddie told me tonight-by accident- I don’t know if she or anyone ever would have told me.” The words are tumbling out of Buck now, and his breath is hitching in these painful sounding gasps that are not-quite sobs.
“I had a brother. He died- and- my parents had me. I don’t- I don’t know why, because they found it so hard. All I know is that I was never enough. They couldn’t l-l-love me.” Buck’s hesitation on that word makes Eddie hurt for him. “They said we- they said I made it too hard.”
Buck’s not getting enough air, and he has to stop for a second. Eddie softly, tentatively places a hand on Buck’s back and starts rubbing circles.
Eddie’s not too comfortable with physical touch- he’s not talking about a friendly pat, a shoulder bump, legs pressed together on the way to a battleground or a fire- an elbow thrown here or there teasingly. Those kinds of touches he’s used to, been used to since his time in the army, and he gives them out easily. He’s not even talking about sex, the physicality and sharp pleasure of which comes naturally to him. But physical intimacy- the kind that accompanies vulnerability and softness- that’s difficult.
His withdrawal in that way was a key symptom of his PTSD when he returned to the States. It was an important reason behind the loss of connection that spelled the demise of his marriage. He had to work on it, hard, when he first got Chris back in his life. He’d even discussed it with his therapist and Chris’. Eddie learned to step up for Christopher, and now he’ll unhesitatingly take his son into his arms.
But Buck doesn’t struggle with touch. He folds Eddie into a hug when he thinks Eddie’s had a bad day- he sits with his arm around Chim and Hen in the truck, and he unashamedly holds Maddie’s hand when they’re out on walks. He’s even seen Buck kiss Christopher on the forehead before bed. Maybe, as Eddie’s learning, Buck’s physicality is a direct result of his cold upbringing. What Eddie knows for sure, though, is that Buck thrives on physical intimacy. And right now, he needs a physical reminder that he is loved.
Eddie’s hand has made its way to the back of Buck’s neck. He gives it a squeeze. Buck forces another painful truth out:
“They wanted Daniel, not me. They said I was hard to love.”
And Eddie…can’t listen to this anymore. He surges forward and pulls Buck right into his arms and half into his lap in a tight hug. It’s awkward because Buck’s a big man, but Eddie’s determined. He wants to say so many things but words aren’t Eddie’s forte and all that comes out is this:
“They were wrong.” But it’s enough. Eddie is enough.
Buck whimpers into Eddie’s hoodie, the sound hurting Eddie as much as Buck. He breaks down, burying his head in Eddie’s neck. He’s crying in earnest now, big sobs that make his back tremble and that he’s trying his best to muffle. He cries like he’s twelve years old again. Eddie’s a little scared with the force of it. He just holds on, rubbing bigger circles into Buck’s back. Buck cries and cries, and eventually the sobs gets smaller and turn into little breath hitches. Eddie finds himself pressing a kiss into Buck’s temple before he can stop himself.
He pours his feelings into his grip on Buck, which he adjusts and keeps even after Buck stops crying. Eventually, Buck lifts his head and pulls back.
“S-sorry. I think I snotted all over you,” Buck sniffs and wipes his eyes and face on the sleeve of his hoodie. Eddie snorts.
“Sure did. You’re buying the pizza for the next month,” he says, trying for lighthearted. He strips off his wet hoodie and catches Buck looking. Even though he’s been crying, Buck’s still fucking stunning. Suddenly, Eddie’s very aware in a different way of Buck’s closeness. His blood is pounding in his ears, and he’s gonna need to take a minute. He stretches, going for nonchalant, but no sooner has he got his arms over his head than Eddie’s the one crowded against the wall, and Buck’s kissing him soundly. Eddie’s body reacts immediately, jeans tightening and tongue slipping easily into Buck’s mouth. Pretty quickly, though, sober heads-in this case Eddie’s- prevail.
“Buck-” he gets out between kisses.
“Yeah? Buck growls, stripping Eddie’s shirt off. Eddie groans long and low when Buck presses them together.
“Buck, wait. Stop.” Buck leans back, reeling a little. His eyes are filling up again and that’s the absolute last thing Eddie wants.
“No, I mean-“ If Eddie’s a little jumbled at the moment he thinks he should be forgiven- “Yes, stop. But just for now.”
“Eddie?”
“You’re still a little drunk, Buck, and it’s been a big night. When we do this, I want it to be with a clear head.” Buck nods, slowly.
“When, not if?”
“I don’t think there’s been an ‘if’ in my mind for a long time, Buck. But there’s a lot at stake here, and…” Eddie hesitates here- he doesn’t want Buck to take this the wrong way, but he needs to say it for his own sake.
“What is it, Eds?”
“When we cross that line, I need to know it’s because you really want me, and not because you need to feel wanted.”
Buck’s eyes fill visibly with emotion again, and Eddie winces, because he knows that had landed hard. But Buck surprises him. He pulls Eddie into a hug, and because they’re standing now, it’s Eddie whose head fits under Buck’ chin.
“You’re right, Eds. But I won’t ever let you feel unwanted.” It’s Eddie’s turn to feel his eyes stinging a bit. He takes Buck by the hand and leads him down the hall to the bedroom. They sleep soundly, and in the morning Chris’ energetic begging for pancakes will give Buck reason to regret his decisions as he suffers through a hangover and Eddie’s amusement at his expense.

A Very long list of Season 5 Predictions/Wish List
I tried to hit as many of the characters as possible so this is really really long
The trickiest thing about this show seems to be the ever growing cast creating several stories at once and the fact that it’s a show about first responders so even characters that don’t seem like they would follow that career choice end up there and those that don’t sometimes feel out of place.
This is not to say that I don’t LOVE AND ADORE FIREFIGHTER ALBERT HAN! (but really kind of thought it came out of nowhere and yet I’m not surprised because what else were they going to do with him?)
It seems unlikely they’d assign Albert to the 118 unless Bobby requests him like he did with Eddie, but I think Bobby might have some hesitations about that. They’re already as close as family and sometimes make dangerous decisions because of it. He might feel its better for Albert to be with a different fire house or maybe Chimney would.
But he’s a regular so putting him with the 118 would be the best way to give him screen time
I personally think he’ll be assigned to the 133 since we’ve seen a bit of them this season. I’d love if there was a fun rivalry between the two firehouses (whichever one Albert ends up at.) I’ve said it before that the 118 is probably notorious at this point for the weird situations they get into. The teasing and the taunting would just be so much fun to watch. Albert talking to Chim or Buck and just being like, so the guys told me about this time…
Actually can we take a moment to appreciate that the 118 got ANOTHER firetruck destroyed and this one wasn’t even theirs. The 133 spends FIVE MINUTES with Buck and Eddie and their truck is in shambles.
On a more serious note, we might meet Chimney and Albert’s dad. I’m thinking he’s not going to be thrilled about his youngest joining the fire department and show up to talk some sense into him and scold Chimney for letting him do it.
I’m so confused about how much time has passed? How long does it take to become a firefighter? They must have some sort of plan for him because cutting out him going through training seems like a lost opportunity. It’s a story we haven’t really seen through anything but montages. Is it difficult? Would he try to quit? I’d have liked to see him making the decision in the first place.
putting the rest under here because its really a lot
We’ll also miss Eddie recovering (and Bobby too actually), which I’m a little bummed about but not devastated. It sounds like we won’t see much in the way of the effects of either shooting but can’t do anything about that now unless they flash back and have them work towards that moment on the roof.
My biggest concern with the time jump is missing literally any of Maddie’s story. I don’t know much about PPD or if its called recovery or overcoming it but I do want to see Maddie work through that and Chimney and the others supporting her.
I think her leaving the dispatch center will be temporary but it may take half or all of next season for her to return.
Maybe she’ll take over for May, if she does go off to school
Or May might continue working at Dispatch and going to school.
If she doesn’t go to school Athena is not going to be very happy with her. But maybe we could get Maddie and Josh being big siblings to May which is an underappreciated dynamic. Maybe it will help Maddie cope with how useless she’s feeling with Jee.
I’ll need to rewatch to see if they say what May wants to do but maybe she’ll study journalism or something that will keep her in the loop of the main characters the way it does Taylor.
And speaking of Taylor, she is actually a very interesting character, whether you like her (morally) or not. I think we’ll see more of her in season 5 and I genuinely think she’ll fall hard for Buck. And I think everyone needs to chill about how it’ll destroy her character. We’ve already established that Taylor is like the female version of Buck (with a bit more sense maybe but a mirror if him non the less). If Buck is allowed to grow and want an actual relationship, is anyone really surprised they’d have Taylor go through that too.
She’s just a few steps behind, like he’s in relationship phase and she’s just coming to terms with her own feelings for him
My big concern, since they like to break Buck’s poor little heart, is that she’ll leave. She’ll get a job opportunity and pick it over Buck. I think it would be a hard decision for her but in character. Or maybe they’ll surprise us and make Buck and Taylor endgame (I know a lot of people don’t want to hear that but I could see it happening that way)
On the flip side I don’t know what’s going to happen with Eddie and Ana. I know she’s pretty much hated but its super unclear what the plan is other than that they’ll eventually break up per what Carla implied. I suspect they’ll be together for a bit of season five until Eddie figures out what’s up with what his heart wants. I don’t think Ana is some awful witch so the break up will probably be mutual or at the very least Ana won’t be surprised.
But hopefully we get more than just that as far as Eddie goes. The episodes we do get that are focused on him are really some of my favorites. They are wrapping up his moving on from Shannon arc which is cool. The trying to be a good father to Christopher will always be there, that’s something that will never change and always be a growing/learning experience.
I’d love to meet one or both of Eddie’s sisters. They don’t have to stick around long term like Albert did but to have them pop up with some crisis would be interesting and we could learn more about Eddie and the dynamic with his family which seems loving but strained.
Maybe we will see Eddie working more with Hen too. I was wondering if they’d make Eddie a full paramedic to take over for her eventually, which I decided they probably won’t do. But one episode of Buck distressed over the fact that he and Eddie wouldn’t be partners anymore would be fun drama.
The two really are just at a loss without each other and I love that. They get so pouty when they’re apart.
I don’t know what other plans they might have for Buck next season. I suspect we’ll see him worrying over Maddie and I’d kill to see him watching Jee-Yun.
I don’t know how old she’ll be because of the time jump but can you imagine Buck watching the baby and it just being an absolute disaster. So he starts calling everyone in a panic and we get firefam taking care of Baby Jee, maybe while Chim and Maddie are at a therapy session or just a weekend away for themselves.
I’m convinced the Baby would love Eddie. I think its just me projecting my desire for Eddie and Maddie to interact more. But like Hen teasing him because of course the baby loves him, all the girls love Eddie, he’s got the pretty face. Buck being super jealous that Jee likes him more. Eddie being genuinely surprised because he felt like such a failure when Chris was a baby.
Denny, Harry and Christopher are all getting older too so there has got to be a story there with at least one, if not all of them. Harry was sidelined this season but I love that kid, he is the spawn of Athena and Michael and we already know he’s a little trouble maker. Match that with Christopher who is sassy and too smart for his own good and Denny who is clearly the good kid of the bunch. I don’t know, it’s another lost opportunity if they don’t do something with that.
They could assign Karen and Hen an older foster kid who’s maybe not such a good influence at first. Unless they opt for just younger ones, I’m not really sure how that works. But they could get one that’s not as easy as nia and they have to work for that bond.
Might be they adopt them at the end
I hope we see more of Hen’s mom and med school friends but not like a crazy amount. The cast is already too big but I love them so an occasional appearance would be welcome.
I love David and Michael too but they always seem like the hardest to work in because, as stated, they are not first responders. David is a doctor though so maybe we’ll see some interaction with him and Hen. And all the Bobby and Michael content is welcome.
I NEED A WEDDING NEXT SEASON! Just pick a pair and marry them please!!! Maddie and Chimney!!! Michael and David!!! Someone, please! Even just a proposal?! Maybe? Please?
And there will be another crossover event which is exciting because I really enjoyed the first one. I wonder if they’ll come to LA this time and what would bring them there. With the scheduling of the shows next season they won’t have to tie them together so much time frame wise. They literally could just be popping in for a visit. I’m not gonna lie when I thought about another crossover I really wanted Bobby the self-taught chef to meet Charles the actual chef but now I can’t have that and it makes me so sad.
Putting all this out there is a really good way to insure it never happens, but still, they seem like logical places to go as of the finale.

Evan Week Day Four: “Can I try?” + love
Cross posted on ao3 here
“Go long, Denny!” Buck shouted motioning with his hand for the boy to back up.
Denny ran backward and Buck hurled the football, watching it arc into the air before falling right into Denny’s waiting hands.
“Good job Buddy,” Buck high fived him as he ran back passing the football off to Harry.
Thanksgiving at Bobby’s was always like this. All of the men, except Bobby, were banished to the backyard while Athena cooked.
Maddie, who was almost worse than Eddie in the kitchen, was in charge of keeping little hands out of the food until it was time to eat.
Hen and Karen were over deserts and Buck and Eddie were running some energy out of the boys while May and Chimney supervised.
Denny, who had picked up a recent interest in football, had brought his ball over and they’d been throwing it back and forth for close to an hour. The boys loved for Buck to long pass it to them and then to tackle each other, wrestling for the ball in the thick covering of leaves.
Buck noticed Christopher hanging back with May at one of the tables. They were drawing together, May listening intently to whatever Christopher was talking about, but every once in a while he’d glance in Buck’s direction like he wished he could play with them.
“Do you want to go play football, Chris?” May asked quietly. She didn’t want to call him out in front of everyone, but she wanted to make sure he wasn’t feeling left out.
“I don’t know,” he trailed off, picking at the paper on one of his crayons absentmindedly.
“I bet Buck would teach you how to throw the ball,” she encouraged. “Go ask him.”
Christopher glanced between her and Buck for a few seconds then nodded. He got his crutches under him and May pushed down the urge to help him. She knew he wanted to do it on his own.
Eddie watched from his lawn chair where he was sipping a beer with Chimney. He’d been playing football with Buck and the kids but he’d played his old man card a few rounds in and went to sit down. He’d noticed Christopher watching the other boys with a faint look of sadness on his face. It hurt him that his son was never going to be able to run and play football in the backyard like Denny and Harry, but it seemed that whatever May had said to him gave him enough courage to ask Buck to play anyway.
Buck was throwing the football into the air in spirals, trying to show Denny and Harry how to spin it when he felt a tug on his sleeve.
He lobbed the ball to Harry to give it a try and turned his attention to Christopher.
“What’s up superman?”
“Buck, can I try?”
He gave a pointed look to the football in Harry’s hands.
“Sure buddy. Harry, throw me the ball.”
Harry tossed it back in his direction and Buck fixed Christopher’s stance before helping him hold the ball correctly.
“Okay, line your fingers upon the laces. Good just like that. Now Harry is gonna run and you’re gonna throw it to him okay?”
“Okay.”
“Alright. Harry go long.”
Harry ran out, though Buck noted not as far as he usually did. Christopher threw it toward him. It was a little wobbly and didn’t quite make it to his hands, but Harry dove for it and caught it anyway.
“Good job Chris,” Buck gave him a high five.
“Dad I did it,” Christopher cheered.
“I saw buddy.”
“Come play with us dad.”
“Yeah, Eddie come on.”
“Please,” Harry and Denny joined in on the begging.
“Alright alright,” Eddie pushed himself up from the chair and caught the ball Harry threw his way.
Harry ran across the yard to grab May, dragging her by the arm to play with them.
Soon they were absorbed in their game, mostly throwing the ball back and forth and running, making Eddie and Buck chase them. Buck strongly enforced the no tackling rule with the threat of no dessert. Eddie knew that usually, he would have let the boys tackle and wrestle but he didn’t want Christopher getting hurt.
He was thankful for his boyfriend’s protective streak over his son, making sure Christopher was still involved while being as safe as possible.
Eventually, they were called inside by Athena to wash up. She remarked how bad they smelled and Eddie laughed as Buck pulled her into a hug, smothering her against his chest.
She smacked the back of his head and threatened him as he ran into the kitchen, lifting Denny to use as a human shield.
Eddie helped Christopher wash up and seated him at the table between himself and Buck. The bowls and plates of food were passed around and it seemed like Athena was preparing to feed all of Los Angeles county.
When their bellies were full and the sky was dark and the kids were half asleep, they said their goodbyes.
Buck loaded a sleeping Christopher into the car then joined Eddie in the front seat. He looked like he was falling asleep himself, but reached out to hold Eddies’s hand over the center console.
“Thank you,” Eddie said softly.
“For what?”
“What you did for Chris today. Not many people would do that. You made him feel like a normal kid for a little while. I know he’ll never be able to run and play like Harry and Denny but seeing him throw a football and be happy playing with us, that’s all I want for him.”
“Eddie you know I love that kid,” suddenly he was wide awake and he shifted in his seat to look at Eddie seriously. “Yeah, he’s never gonna be a ‘normal’ kid. But you work hard to give him the best childhood possible and I want to be part of that. Even if it is just teaching him how to throw a football.”
If he weren’t driving Eddie would have kissed him.
“I love you Evan Buckley.”
“I love you too Eddie Diaz.”

Buck x OC
Buck is buying a gift for Jee-Yun. It's the first thing he is gonna give his niece and he is nervous, he needs something special and unique, but also very Buck, so Jee-Yun can remember him for forever. He doesn't want Chim to hear about it and we know how the fam can't keep a secret, so he decides to go to Twitter and ask. It becomes viral or not, up to you, but one of the answers he gets catches his attention so he answers and the other person answers him back and suddenly they are having conversations about everything and anything, even after he buys the gift for Jee-Yun and meet her for the first time.
Any way, at some point he and the person chatting in internet decide to meet in person. And what a surprise, he/she/they is someone he met when he was going around, and they have story, but the spark is still there
Hi I love you, thank you so much for this request!
Pairing: Evan “Buck” Buckley x OC
Characters: Evan “Buck” Buckley, Original Female Character, Howie “Chimney” Han, Maddie Buckley, Jee-Yun
Tags: Fluff, awkward reunions, mentions of sex, Buck being an uncle, alternate universe from S.o.S, a lil bit of angst bc Buck can’t figure out a good gift, one count ‘em one swear word
Buck is at his wits end, he’s been struggling to find the perfect gift for his newborn niece but everything he’s looked at has been so cliche so far from teddy bears and blankets to personalized rattles she’ll eventually outgrow. He needs something else- something unique that is the best gift possible- something that she’ll cherish for years to come- and preferably something that Maddie and Chimney won’t throw out.
He’s out of ideas and he’s running out of time so it’s time for drastic measures. Twitter. It’s a last ditch effort really, sending out a tweet begging asking for suggestions on what to get his newborn niece, some of the answers he gets are absurd such as the newspaper on the day that he’ll meet her- what kind of gift is that? Another suggestion is a bath bundle which sounds good at first but then again it’s not very personal to Jee-Yun which is who the gift he’s buying is for, there are more simple things such as blankets and baby clothes but at some point she’ll grow out of those.
Buck feels as though there’s no point in asking anyone, he’ll have to get his favorite niece some crappy gift that won’t be anywhere near perfect and everyone will make fun of him and-
RaeOfSunshine28: How about a memory book?
Huh.
That’s actually....the best suggestion he’s heard all day. He likes the tweet and sends a reply to the stranger who has brought him salvation.
FireH0seBuckley: That sounds like a really cool idea, thx!
He doesn’t think about it for the rest of the day until he’s off work and trying to find a memory book, it’s been awfully difficult for him not to gloat around the station that he’s got the best gift ever planned for Jee-Yun, Where in the world would he ever find that? He’s been searching for awhile when another idea pops into his head.
Message from FireH0seBuckley:
Heyyyy! So thx again for the gift idea...any idea where to get one? :P
Message from RaeOfSunshine28:
Np, Maybe try a craft store? It’ll probably be w/ the scrapbooking stuff. You could try doing it yourself tho.
Message from FireH0seBuckley:
Mehhhh seems like too much work LOL
Message from RaeOfSunshine28:
.-. Bro don’t be lazy it’s ur niece
Message from FireH0seBuckley:
:P You’re no fun
Message from RaeOfSunshine28:
Tell me something I don’t know.
Message from FireH0seBuckley:
Oxygen supply can influence the color of a fire.
Message from RaeOfSunshine28:
?????
Message from FireH0seBuckley:
You said to tell you something you don’t know, now you tell me something about you!
Message from RaeOfSunshine28:
Since when did we start playing 20 questions?
Message from FireH0seBuckley:
Since now!
Buck smiles down at his phone as he and whoever he’s messaging begin to message back and fourth, it’s nice to have someone new to talk to when everyone is busy. This goes on for about a month or so, they message each other frequently and end up texting throughout their days, he feels like it’s become more than a friendship but he doesn’t want to jump to any conclusions. Buck’s been heartbroken enough in the past- but he’s come to the realization that he wants to me this person in....well, person. So he suggests meeting at a local coffee place to finally see each other face to face, it surprises and elates him when they agree.
He’s nervous as he waits at the coffee shop, this is the first time that he’s actually been the one asking someone out, Abby was the one who called him- so was Ali, and Taylor bought him a drink at a bar so making the first move wasn’t in his wheelhouse. The only time he’d usually make the first move was when he was having sex.
The bell to the cafe’s door chimed catching Buck’s attention- speaking of sex- the woman that walked in was someone he recognized, he never caught her name but he certainly remembered the long black hair and stunning green eyes. She doesn’t notice him, at least not right away, instead opening her phone to send a message to someone...at the same time Buck’s phone vibrates in his pocket.
Realization comes crashing into him as he frantically pulls out his phone- there’s no way- there’s no possible way-
Message from RaeOfSunshine28:
Hey I’m here, not certain if you are yet. Want me to get you anything? :)
Holy shit it is. The twitter user he’s been talking to was someone that he’d had a one night stand with. He realizes that he must have been staring at her because her gaze is suddenly on him, eyeing him suspiciously as though she’s trying to place it. When she finally comes to the realization of where she knows him from her eyes become wide with embarrassment, mouth turning into an ‘Oh.’ shape. He gives her a small smile and a wave as she walks over to him.
“Fancy meeting you here stranger, didn’t think I’d be seeing you again since you ghosted me.” She greets all too casually for someone who- nope not thinking like that.
“Did I really ghost you?” Buck asks confidently a genuine smile working it’s way on to his face.
“Well I would say that waking up to an empty bed with no way to contact you would be a good way of ghosting me.” She hums lightly in response.
“Oh but RaeOfSunshine twenty-eight I would say that I have kept in great contact with you.” Her bemused expression suddenly drops into one of shock as he speaks.
“You’re kidding. You’re fire hose Buckley?”She asks sounding incredulous.
“The one and only. So, it’s nice to meet you Rae.” He officially greets extending his hand.
“It’s Raven actually, my friends call me Rae though and since we’ve been past that I suppose you can call me Rae. It’s nice to meet you as well Buckley.” She says a smile beginning to form.
“Buck, actually. Buckley is my last name and Evan is my first name everyone just calls me Buck.”
So it’s a rough start to their relationship but it certainly feels like a good start none the less.
Bonus:
“So why is your twitter handle fire hose?”
