These 2 colonies of ants comes out in spring and fall. They are at an almost constant war with the colony on the other side of the sidewalk.

Seeing this colony grow over the years has been something that I have really enjoyed. I know most people dont like ants especially when they get into their homes. However I sure do love them

Forest life in small details🍂🐚🍄
By the way, there are a lot of grasshoppers of different sizes and colors, but they are too nimble for me😄🦗🌱
Лесная жизнь в маленьких деталях🍂🐚🍄
Кстати, много кузнечиков разных размеров и окраски, но они слишком шустрые для меня😄🦗🌱

Back in the spring, I noticed a couple of plants in the (mostly) wildflower garden that were absolutely swarmed with aphids. So many aphids.
Tumblr media
I watched them for a few days and, sure enough, a ladybug or two came along.
Tumblr media
They ate some aphids, but not enough to make much difference. That took ladybug larvae, which are absolute killing machines.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A couple of ravenous lacewing larvae showed up, too.
Tumblr media
The aphids appeared around May 1, and the first ladybugs about two weeks later. The ladybug larvae went to work by May 19, and within a week they had eaten every single aphid and moved on to other parts of the garden.

Dahlia Maggiore Fun Flame. She's sitting here waiting for a rabbit to come by and nibble on her lower leaves. Then POUNCE, and there's a corpse sitting in my garden. Indeed, this is how MFF, and dahlias generally self-fertilize.

Hypselodoris maculosa
Full disclosure: I'm actually unsure if this pic was taking by me, or a friend loaned my camera for a dive we were both on.
Edit, just confirmed it was taken by my friend :)
