How to Create The Most Beautiful Summer Wedding
Summer has long been one of the most popular times of the year to get hitched, and since there are so many different summer wedding ideas and themes to choose from, it is also one of the most versatile seasons. Whether you are getting married on the beach or hosting a romantic garden ceremony, this guide will help you choose your colour palette, decide on a venue type, and start gathering inspiration to match your summer wedding theme or vision. If you're planning to wed between June and September, take a look at these summer wedding ideas and tips.
What is the best wedding month outdoors?
Summer weddings may occur from early June to early September. Hot temperatures and humidity will vary depending on where you get married, but they tend to be less extreme in the early summer months, June or even late May. If your wedding takes place on the East Coast, keep in mind that the Atlantic Hurricane season is from June 1 through November 30, although most storms occur from late August through September. For your own peace of mind, do yourself a favour, and have a rain plan ready, just in case!
For summer weddings, what are the best venues?
Outdoor venues are a top choice for summer weddings, particularly if you want to take advantage of the season's warm temperatures and sunny skies. Among the most popular venues are for summer weddings:
Vineyards: Amazing wine, beautiful countryside, what else could you need? Most vineyards also offer catering services (and drink packages, of course!) or a partner with a nearby catering company, which is ideal if you are looking for an all-inclusive wedding venue. Gardens: Surrounding yourself with natural beauty by having your summer wedding in a garden venue. Throughout the nation, from historical estates to botanical greenhouses and state parks, there are so many lovely garden wedding venues. Country and yacht clubs: For a classical or black-tie wedding, consider getting married at a country club or yacht club. These kinds of venues give your special day an ultra-sophisticated, timeless feeling (and they have air conditioning). Beaches: If you are lucky to live near a beach or another body of water, it can serve as a lovely backdrop for your nuptials. Even if you have to drive a few hours to reach the water, it can be a great excuse to have a "destination" wedding that's closer to home and does not require too much travel. Barns and farms: Celebrate by getting married all night long under the stars at a barn or farm wedding venue. All you need to add is good music and food! These rustic, relaxed places will make you feel like one giant party for your wedding!
What are the best colours for a summer wedding?
Summer wedding ideas are all about creating a fun, laid-back atmosphere, so take that into account when finalising your colour palette. Bright and colourful palettes are a popular choice for summer weddings, particularly if you're getting married on the beach or in a tropical place.
Those work great, too, when your style is more pastel wedding colours or neutrals! They will feel light and airy if you get married outdoors. When used at a summer wedding, neutrals and pastels feel light and airy, especially if you're getting married outdoors in a scenic place. Need a bit of inspo? We love summer wedding themes with all-white decor. For summer weddings, what are good themes?
As you consider decor and other summer wedding ideas, try to hone in on a specific style or theme. Here are just a few of our favourite options:
Beach or nautical: For anyone who gets married at a waterfront venue, this is a popular choice, but a nautical wedding theme will give your wedding a summery feeling immediately, even if you are not. If you want something a little more unique, go for a mermaid-inspired wedding,-think seashells, glitter, Boho chic: Boho wedding style is a great fit for summer, particularly if your venue is outdoors. This free-spirited aesthetic focuses on the use of nature-inspired details, such as feathers, greenery, succulents and geodes. Other Bohemian elements, such as hanging centrepieces, macrame details, and mix-and-match furniture, will all bring an eclectic vibe to your decor. Rustic: Getting hitched at a barn or farm venue? Then, a rustic wedding theme is an apparent (and lovely) choice. Tropical: Bold colours, fruity cocktails, and floral patterns are all the key elements of this fun summer wedding theme. If on the islands you can't get married, take them with you instead! Garden romance: If you're leaning towards a classic look for your nuptials, an elegant garden wedding theme is a great choice. It emphasises lush flower arrangements along with pastel colours and, most importantly, plenty of pink (think roses, peonies, and greenery).
For summer weddings, what are the best flowers?
If you're planning a summer wedding, you're in luck, as some of the most popular in-season wedding flowers are June, July, and August. To you, what is this supposed to mean? Depending on the particular bloom, in-season flowers can sometimes be more affordable, since your wedding florist will not have to go the extra mile to find them. For summer weddings, some of the top flowers include:
PEONIES PEONIES From the garden roses Hydrangea Freesias Freesias, Freesias Freesias Popcorns Over Delphinium DelphiniumDelphinium Concerning lavender Anemones Anemones Anemones Dahlias Dahlias Dahlias
Looking for flowers that in the summer pack a punch? Try outstanding blooms like anthurium, proteas (see here for 20 amazing wedding bouquets of protea), stargazer lilies, and birds of paradise. You'll want to consider the kinds of flowers that can withstand high heat when you get married if the summer temperatures are very hot. Certain blooms, such as hydrangeas and peonies, are considered delicate and quite sensitive to heat. Remember that when in doubt, your wedding florist knows best!
Top Dress Crop for Wedding
It's summer season, if there's ever been time for a little skin with a crop top to show off. Rock this trendy bridal look if you're getting married on the beach or having a laid-back wedding.
This dramatic greenery is a must-have for any tropical-themed wedding. Even if they are more traditional, it will instantly give the flowers a beachy vibe by adding a monstera leaf to your bridal bouquet or other wedding flower arrangements.
Swap that classic satin bridal clutch for something much more whimsical and totally unexpected. Summer weddings are a particularly great time to think outside the box when it comes to your accessories (like sunglasses) and a boho-chic rattan bag will add just the right amount of je ne sais quoi.
Natural Wedding Makeup
Trust us, hot summer days are not the time to pile on a heavy foundation and mattifying powder, even if you're getting married. It is entirely possible to achieve full coverage while keeping your makeup light and subtle, particularly when you have the aid of airbrush makeup and professional assistance. For an easy, summer-ready bridal look, opt for barely-there lipstick, highlighting, and lengthening mascara.
The Mini Pineapple Wedding Boutonnieres
For summer weddings, here's a creative idea, if we've ever seen one. Until now, we didn't know how adorable mini pineapples might be, but we love the idea of using them for wedding boutonnieres instead of flowers.
Markers of the Aisle for Greenery
Tie bunches of tropical palms and pews or chair backs with greenery for a quick, easy way to decorate your summer wedding ceremony aisle.
The Beach Wedding Ceremony Sign
On the beach, exchanging vows or having a reception for your wedding? Encourage guests to kick off their shoes and relax with a "shoes optional" sign made of driftwood.
Macramé's Wedding backdrop
Rent or make a macramé backdrop to jazz up empty or unused space at your wedding venue. That backdrop is used for an escort card display, but you could use something similar for your ceremony or sweetheart table backdrop.
Hairstyle Braided for Wedding
Getting married outdoors in hot weather means keeping your hair off your neck to stay comfortable, particularly if you're a long-haired bride. We love this bride's gorgeous Dutch braid that finishes in a low-side bun.
Yellow and Orange bridesmaid dresses
This bold colour palette makes a major statement for a summer wedding. One trick to pull off is the mix-and-match bridesmaid dress trend: select three or four colours maximum and keep the silhouettes relatively the same.

Spend part of winters further south, dress my baby boy in flowers, learn to play the piano, have my husband take us on the boat every summer weekend, paint my future home with milk paint, have an altar to the well or spring we get our water from, grow citrus in a greenhouse, tattoo my hands and feet, always always always plant flowers in spring
Teach my baby what wild plants to nibble on, take him to the market when things aren’t strange anymore, carry him close to my heart as long as I can, buy a press for paper prints, start weaving macrame again, name the chickens this time, shower everyone in my life with random gifts whenever able, never lose the megalodon tooth I found at the beach
Visualize all the good things and a long life and embrace every change even the hard ones that don’t explain away easily

May 2020
Recording several songs from the Buffy musical episode with people from all over the world (I especially like Amber and Michiel Min, a Dutch physicist with the perfect opera voice) and also a few Tenacious D songs. Collabs are a lot of fun - as long as noone joins uninvited and ruins the whole thing...
Manu calling my out on my gaga-mode. It usually starts when I get tired and act really crazy and childlike. The other night we ordered from Burger King (chili cheese nuggets, hurray), chilled in bed and I watched him record Smule videos.
Babylon Berlin Sundays.
Seeing Sash for the first time in months. Intense cuddle sesh.
Tiny little guilty pleasure: using the llama plushie Lena and Obi gave me for my birthday as a pillow. So soft.
Playing around with my new Apple Stylus in Procreate. I actually got the pen for free (payment for my logo design).
Strawberries and cream. Which were also the main ingredient of my birthday cake. I actually got some little party candles for myself and was able to blow them out and make a wish on my birthday.
The cute illustrated board game I got from Yanch and Sash; it's called Roots.
Learning the cup song chords on the ukulele (I borrowed Manu's uke and called it Justin - now I have to paint the instrument, the theme is Hawaiian Death Metal).
Our summer vacation is going to happen after all! We just booked our flights to Ibiza/Formentera!
Starting my first macrame project (a hanging planter). I also want to make a wall hanging for the balcony.
Watching reality/contest TV shows on Netflix: The Big Flower Fight, The World's Most Extraordinary Homes, Interior Design Masters and Glow Up. I also loved the Enjoy Your Trip documentary about psychonauts.
Lena and Obi making amazing vegetarian burgers. And a Pocky/KitKat blind test. Finally meeting the cat that keeps visiting in the evenings.
Vietnamese food in Manu's bed on my birthday. New Girl episodes. Playing around with the Loopify app. Weed. Laughing and talking until 5am. I got some art supplies as a birthday present (CMYK acrylic paints and hot iron beads).
Making roast beef (Manu) and dumplings! I think I also made pretzel dumplings with creamy mushrooms that week.
My obsession with Adobe Fresco. Digital drawing can be so much fun!
Growing crystals on rocks and stones in my kitchen (yup, I bought one of those crystal growing kits for kids).
Taking sneaky pictures of interesting people on the subway. There was a woman dressed in all red and when she had left another lady sat down in the same seat - dressed in all yellow! Also, there was a girl wearing mismatched socks. A cute dog. A really stylish woman with some kind of kimono coat, a white dress, black studded cowboy boots and a fanny pack.
Playing Role Models with Maike and the others. I love the categories they came up with. And the weird verdict at the end of the game like: Kat, the "not so bumbling musical diva".
Being dry and warm again after getting dirty, cold and wet.
Seeing the famous cat from a few houses down coming out of the garden underneath his very own sign (the kids made a sign with a photo of the cat and a warning - be careful, we have a wild cat!)
I gave money to an old beggar. I don't know why, probably because he was really old. I'm getting softer, eh?
A good talk with my gynecologist and a few helpful recommendations.
The neighbour I dislike surprisingly doesn't mind me singing in the evening.
My kids at school are super chill these days. I haven't been as relaxed in a very long time. Oh, and the lesson about India was a lot of fun I thought.
Getting rid of the ugly mirror tiles in my hallway. This white wall there feels like such an accomplishment now.
Rediscovering music. Somehow my reading phase is over, I listen to music all the time now (something I haven't done ever since I still had a car). Getting a Spotify premium account and bluetooth headphones. Good decision.
The happy feeling I get when I'm singing. And Isi's surprising (and fantastic) voice! Her recording of Little Black Submarines blew our mind.
Luvos Healing Earth face masks.
I usually hear the kids playing in the beergarden next door when I'm in my kitchen and one afternoon there was a girl on the swing yelling: "Schaukeeeeeln, schaukeeeeeln, Apfelschooooorle!" I can totally relate. Two of my favourite things. And I never lack enthusiasm either.
Lena telling me about a dream she had. We were in high school, in the cool-guy tract to be exact. I was standing there shaking my head no, as if I wanted to warn her not to go there. She somehow made out with some really crazy dudes after that? Interesting.
Nothing new here but as always: my urban jungle and the smell of my blankie.
An unvoluntary cold shower. At least drying off after the shower because it had somehow stimulated my bloodflow and really woke me up. Better than coffee.
Aldi macarons (surprisingly), brownie-style Hanuta and really old gouda. Foamy coffee. Rice crackers with cottage cheese, tomato and avocado. Herbal salt. Lemon-basil flavoured Philadelphia cream cheese. Walnut cream cheese. Corn cobs.
Self-care. Eating a little healthier. Using dental floss all the time. Pampering my skin with serums and creams.
Watching a red squirrel climbing up a tree, jumping from branch to branch and finally entering the neighbours' balcony.
The first blush on my very own home-grown tomatoes.
Eating tapas-style for dinner. Olives, some bits of cheese and veggie sausage, hummus, crisp bread, tomatoes and pickles. Preferably in bed watching POSE.
The reflection of my phone display in a glass of white wine. Dark background, psychedelic colours.

Introducing: Syngonium Podophyllum
Like my Dracaena Grande Damme, this plant was also given to me by an ex-boyfriend’s mom. I was making small-talk about it at the dinner table, and she dumped some cuttings on me in a red solo cup. That cup stayed in the mounted toothbrush holder in my bathroom for... a long time. Eventually I potted it straight in a metal grain holder from a junk store (I have a whole set of them that I now use as chachepots), macrameed a holder, and hung it from an existing hook in the shower.
Up until May 2020, I was sure it was a philodendron. Luckily for the plant, I understood that philodendrons were under-story tropical plants, so I placed it in the humid bathroom with bright indirect light. Unfortunately for the plant, I had no clue how to water it, and throughout the half decade I’ve been growing it, the plant has gone alternated through Phases of Explosive Growth and Phases of Dramatic Dyback.
Someday I’ll unearth older photos of this plant. It was looking very majestic as it completely took over that corner of my shower in summer 2018, but I over-watered it terribly and most of the plant died back that winter. It sprung back summer 2019, and rinse-repeat with the overwatering.
I re-potted it in the 6″ grow put from my crassula ovata in March 2020 as part of my great houseplant learning development. During the process I broke a few stems, which I then propagated. Here’s the original plant as it looks today 6/14/2020, in the original macrame, where it’s been growing and dying alternatively since approximately 2015:
The leaves at the top are beginning to get very defined, mature lobes! A lot of the new growth at the bottom along the inside of the pot is tiny and not variegated, because of the shade it gets. There’s perhaps a leaf or two not long for this world... But that main vine is so hardy and long. You can see the years of leaves that have died along its tight spiral. I strung up some twine to encourage it to vine on a few years ago, and I believe those vines are the ones I broke when I took it down to re-pot.
Here’s the oldest and most successful propagation as of today, 6/14/2020, where it lives on the stand by my east window (getting rotated a bit every watering, cause these guys lean hard!):
It grows like a weed. Syngoniums are known to be easy growers of course, but perhaps also because of how thick that main vine is, I’ve found I can just cut sections of the vine off, set them in water in my west-facing kitchen window, and they’ll quickly sprout roots and leaves.
Just potted up two such cuttings in that pot to help it fill out:
This cutting in my bathroom might’ve been from the top of the main vine, since it exhibits the same funny (to me--I’m sure it’s a sign of my maltreatment) spiral growth.
I also just recently potted up another chunk of vine cutting in the back here. I believe it was just an inch-long section from the bottom of another cutting, mid-vine. I’ve been using an airy mixture of 1-1-1 potting mix, orchid bark, and perlite for these. They’re top-dressed with orchid bark and probably some random crystals, since I’m also an avid rockhound.
The hardiness of this thing inspired me to look for more interesting syngoniums to grow. Overall, I’m excited to get the main propagation in my living room even bushier! Next spring, I might take another stab at the main plant, cutting it up and separating it out to really encourage the healthiest growth. Part of it needs a pole. Part of it needs its own pot. But for now, I’m going to see what a solid growing season and reasonable watering schedule (full saturation, but only after the soil has dried out!) does for it.

I texted a friend the other month, about how for my 27th birthday or any occasion, any worthy occasion we have time to save up and reason to spend I wanna go to VEGAS all of us together in Vegas I’m really in the mode!!! Vegas, baby!! (manic mood also featured Time to star in adult films in the valley!!! and a massive red wig and red lips and leopard print bra and smoking inside and daydrinking and copious selfies I sent her I’m a new person)
Deal. We’ll need dresses and heels.
I wanna party and be laughing in the sun and wandering a nighttime seedy underbelly and have it be like a movie and a Tom Waits song and a dream all in one.
Kind of like how i wanted to have that 70s la summer
Back in college, I think my first summer after freshman year I was obsessed with the 70s. I’d bleached my hair, long crunchy curls like a Robert Plant knockoff to differentiate myself, cast off from oppressive mom who never let me do anything to my hair or appearance at all. My comfort movies I fell asleep watching all the time were The Doors and Velvet Goldmine, I was aggressively obsessed with Pink Floyd and drew pictures of Roger Waters all the time, smoked pot, tried mushrooms, had seen The Runaways and wanted that life for myself so badly. I was still young and energetic enough to believe all things were possible, you just have to will them into existence (I still do but seldom have the energy to sustain belief for a prolonged period of time and the secret to young people succeeding as artists (besides their sex appeal and YOUTH (conflation of these things)) is that they are so young they are IGNORANT of their bluster and arrogance and hubris, and that ignorance fosters the guts and courage necessary to pushing forth and getting your shit out there. Once you learn more to realize how derivative your shit is, or gain enough self-awareness and perspective to see the body of work that already exists in the world, you become more self doubting and self conscious - its that whole thing of knowing enough to know that you don’t know a lot - ANYWAY young artists succeed bc theyre arrogant shameless and full of conviction good for them I champion that) so I wanted all my friends to come down to Los Angeles with me for the summer We’re gonna have a 70s summer! Cocaine and champagne and cigarettes, tottering around on platform sandals!
I was Farrah-flipping my hair and developing a taste for cigs though I didn’t like them that much it was totally about the image (take me back, that sounds nice) and was hung up on guys in their 50s who’d tell me about the time they played tambourine with Jefferson Airplane I used to be Jim Morrison, go out to the desert with a bottle of whiskey and a gun and wake up to the vultures circling above me all the thrills I got from their danger stories, them dedicating Foxy Lady to me, sending me voicemails of Feeling Groovy playing over the radio, getting my 70s fix from everything they dosed me with, all the stories I wanted to be inside of.
My plot was for me and my friends to rent a room in a shitty motel somewhere in Hollywood by a freeway, someplace cheap but near everything (what the fuck does that even mean in LA what does that MEAN), walkable (walkable?????). We would strut down the boulevard in thigh length fur trimmed coats and hemp knit macrame halter hops and bell bottoms and sunglasses (I drew and watercolored girls wearing this outfit all the time trying to make it real!!) and duck into theatres showing dirty movies or just old ones, find hotel bars to drink at and eye up everyone, sunbathe on a rooftop and get nice and brown just like the people in Roller Boogie like the people in Jesus Christ Superstar like the people in Whats Up Doc?
I don’t even know what I was after - indulgence? Checking out of my life to enjoy things? Cut loose and experience? Laze about in the fashion I wanted with the girls I loved? Letting myself - oh right oh right same thing I’m after with this new desire for Vegas I want to be someone else I want to be allowed to not owe anyone responsibilities and I want to have FUN be HAPPY be a CHARACTER in a good looking story.
Dude I wanna fuck Keith Richards so bad I wanna cry
it’s so funny, living in New Orleans (which is 2nd only to Vegas in terms of being Escapist Fantasytown, U.S.A.), trying to find a different location to project all over and dream about.

Backpacks are more of a necessity than a fashion statement. Without a bag, no journey can be successful. Macrame backpacks, on the other hand, may be your fashion love and best buddy on any journey.
Over Sized Macrame Bag
You may believe that large bags are difficult to handle and that they are not suitable for everyone. A macrame over-sized purse, on the other hand, will not make you feel heavy and is ideal for western-style clothes. This may be used for a variety of purposes, including shopping, business attire, and travel.
Summing Up
Women's handbags have already become fashionable accessories. Handwoven macrame boho bags may now be styled any you like. Macrame bags can be your summer love if you select them above any other handbag. You can always make style statements by being distinctive!

We have to say, we’re pretty smitten with some of the spring wedding trends we’re seeing so far this year, from wild, colorful blooms to super playful, bold tablescapes. So when it came to styling our spring bridal shower with Crate and Barrel, we were more than ready to see how all we could channel all those wildflower vibes in a laidback, backyard celebration. And in case you’re wondering, yes, all those classic kitchen staples and timeless entertaining pieces you’ve been adding to your Wedding Registry do look quite at home all dressed up in edible flowers and fresh fare…
Offerings created the most gorgeous spring florals for our backyard affair. No to mention these sweet floral crowns…
Flower power!
So, we’ve mentioned Crate and Barrel’s Mercer collection before, which comes in white, grey, and now denim. Isn’t it the prettiest pop of blue? You can actually snag this shade on your appetizer, salad, and dinner plates (to name just a few staples of the line) or mix and match with the more classic pieces on your Registry.
Naturally we had to connect with flower pro Loria Stern on all-things wildflower. She’s known as the queen of flower pressed shortbread cookies, cakes, and delicious, fresh, floral food.
Pretty grazing boards are a staple of spring and summer, if you ask us.
Speaking of grazing boards. Serveware is probably one of the most important tabletop pieces at a laidback party like this. When you’re gathering around a long table, having a few different serving trays, like the Carson Cheese Board shown here makes it easy for guests to snack in comfort. They break up the table and you can serve all your fave finger foods at once.
DIY tip: Make your own DIY low table for spring and summer entertaining out of pine planks and cinderblocks. This one is about 4′ wide and 12′ long with space for 6 guests on each side.
The Dax Double Old-Fashioned Glass is ideal for outdoor dining. When adding to your Gift Registry in honor of an outdoor event, don’t forget about all the ways you can use your tabletop and barware after the fact. Hi, summer party!
These Modern Stripe Fringe Napkins soften the tablescape. If you look closely, you’ll see that we used its matching tablecloth for our drink + dessert station, below…
Even if your bridal shower is super casual and boho, you want to make sure your guests are extra cozy. You’ll be dining on the ground, after all. This Alma Ivory Fringe Indoor/Outdoor Rug and lots of big pillows elevate the look of the event while keeping everyone comfortable. Plus, it creates a little designated dining area which is super helpful when celebrating in a wide open space like a backyard.
Love us some pretty spring goodies on an elegant display like the Merge Porcelain Two-Tiered Server.
For another serving board option, may we suggest the Amari Acacia Wood Platter? Find more wildflower bridal shower ideas in our gallery below!

I’m actually pretty proud of this, so I guess it’ll go on my main. I wanted to show it before i potentially ruin it with my paints.
I turned nineteen yesterday!! So I started work on this- it’s my six main outfits throughout the age of 18.
Description and analysis below the cut.
the first one is my classic Babydoll- pink sweater with a polka dot collar, long, puffy black skirt (i didnt draw them but it did have large pink blossoms printed on it). I was... I was fresh out of high school, and the lack of any sort of social clique to sink myself into showed. I was wayward, I was more than a little lost, I decided to cover it by wearing the prettiest, girliest outfits I could. Hence, pink polka dots and poofy skirts.
The second is Monochrome 1- a plain white tank top and black tights, under a translucent black top and white shorts with black lace detailing. Typically worn with a swatch of bright red lipstick. I wore this one in later March, almost all the way into May. It was just an easy, almost pre-assembled outfit for days when I felt less but wanted to look more. I wore it often.
The third was my favorite workout outfit- pale green shorts with macrame detailing and a loose striped tank top. Early summer every year- i try to get back on that regular exercise horse!
The forth was my work uniform while I worked at a daycare- light/khaki pants that go below the knee (i wore capris during summer) and a solid t shirt. My legs are spread in a wide stance because I try to be more authoritative in everything I do when I work with kids much younger than me. Including my body language. I hated that uniform and ended up working myself into a mess while I was there.
The fifth is what I wore while I was hospitalized last fall- the hospital I was sent to didn’t require patients to wear hospital gowns, so I wore my nicest dresses, again as an attempt to cheer myself up. My hair is really getting long by this point in time!
The sixth and final outfit is a big cozy gold sweater and solid blue leggings. Nothing special, just something comfy to keep me warm when winter is cold.
#my art#pay no attention to the lack of consistency decent proportions decent anatomy octopus arms etc behind the curtain

How would vi style summer clothes
I think we do see a bit of Vi’s summer style in the show like the apc dress at the at the start so I think she’d go more down the boho route.
I think she’d wear floral patterns and slightly brighter colours with thinner material but I think she’d still incorporate layering. Like, she might wear the apc dress or the macrame tank over a short sleeve T-shirt rather than multiple layers. If she was wearing long sleeves though, I think it would be a sheer/thin top similar to the floral burnout. She might wear an outfit similar to her kinks outfit. In warm weather she’d probably wear 3/4 length leggings or cargo trousers, like she does in some parts of the show.

Designers and labels at the recent New York Fashion Week drew from a multitude of inspirations for their collections. Some, like Ralph Lauren, attempted to bring the house down by putting on a grand jazz show.
Others staged visually arresting runways with florals and dramatic columns – or included poignant tributes. Of course, the one fashion presentation that caused a buzz was by Serena WIlliams, who presented her latest collection for women.
Here are the fashion week highlights that you need to know about. — AP
Floored By Florals
Wes Gordon, now into his second year as Carolina Herrera’s creative director, upped his game with a crowd-pleasing, flower-themed collection big on color and vibrant prints.
The inspiration was the California super bloom, a phenomenon that leads to an high proportion of wildflowers blossoming at once. The runway saw a succession of dresses both very long and very short, with dramatic bursts of florals.
A Visual Feast
After a two-year break, Vera Wang returned to New York Fashion Week with a moody and visually arresting show that featured high-couture lingerie elements, hippie hair, and heels so spiky that some models struggled to stay on their feet.
Camisoles, bustiers, garters, corsets. All of these were on full display in a show that took place in a dark room punctuated by dramatic columns of white light. The show was titled “Seduction. Layering to Reveal. Done and Undone”.
All That Jazz
Janelle Monae brought down the house at Ralph Lauren’s New York Fashion Week show, where “the house” was a jazzy nightclub of yesteryear that Lauren created inside a Wall Street building.
Sisters Bella and Gigi Hadid were among the models who navigated a grand staircase of the art deco club as they showed off Lauren’s sparkly dresses and tuxedo-inspired evening looks.
On Point
Only three days after her appearance in the US Open final, Serena Williams went from the court to the runway to present the latest collection of her fashion label, S by Serena.
The show in midtown Manhattan began with a brown trench-style coat, followed by a suit in the same fabric with an asymmetrical wrap skirt. Pants and slouchy sweaters followed, then a series of dresses, tops and coats in an animal-style print.
The S By Serena Williams collection celebrated women of all shapes and sizes.
In Memory
From a linen and leather pant to a macrame tweed skirt, Tory Burch looked to one of the most important fashion icons of the 20th century for inspiration at New York Fashion Week – Princess Diana.
“I think every girl growing up wants to be a princess. It was my dream, too, to be a princess,” Burch said. “I mean, I do of course follow the royal family, and it’s good to see how they’re doing. And Princess Diana, she was very special.”
All-American Flavour
There were no flag outfits, but Michael Kors’ show was very much a patriotic tribute as he saluted American fashion with a collection that ran from nautical chic to classic glamour-girl gowns to whimsical polka-dot designs.
Kors later explained that the collection was inspired by many different threads of the American experience, from the recently reimagined Broadway musical Oklahoma to his immigrant ancestors.
Rough And Tumble
Tom Ford enticed the fashion crowd into an abandoned subway station by serving up dumplings before a precarious three-story walk to the rails, and, yes, heels were involved.
Sporty was the name of Ford’s game, in elevated ball caps and leather biker jackets. Wide elastic-waist trousers came in several colours, paired with a sculpted breastplate that defined his model’s chest in the same hue.
