I didn't know who she was but she's super neat! From the Avatar wiki:

Malu was born to two airbending monks and raised in the Eastern Air Temple. When the Fire Nation attacked the Air Nomads during the passing of Sozin's Comet, her mother hid her away in a cave in order to keep her safe. As such, Malu survived the raid, though her parents were among the first casualties in the war. For years, Malu lived a solitary existence, teaching herself airbending. Despite lacking a teacher, she quickly mastered the art, which helped her to survive. It was not until 10 AG that she came out of hiding and began attacking Fire Nation soldiers. She became a legend in the Earth Kingdom as an enigmatic beauty who supposedly controlled the spirits and could appear and vanish at will.

Malu: The Ghost Witch of The Mountain - a little known Airbender from the long de-canonized Avatar TCG! She was a young escapee of the Eastern Air Temple during the slaughter of the Air Nomads and spent many years hiding in the mountains of the Earth Kingdom before eventually going on the offensive and fighting off the Fire Nation soldiers who threatened people there. She became something of a myth/legend to those who lived in the area as a protector spirit called "The Ghost Witch". Villagers still pay tribute to her and some say her spirit still protects the forest/mountains.

Malu is notable for also being a master of the Airbending sub-bending of Soundbending!

She was always one of my favorite "outside media" ATLA characters and my secret impossible hope is that she somehow gets re-canonized again either through a novel appearance or an appearance in Avatar Legends. I was inspired to draw this partially because like I said, she's one of my favorites, but also because there's this one fanart of (I think) someone's Air Nomad oc that constantly gets shared around and people say it's Malu. While it's lovely art - it's not her/doesn't look like her. So I wanted to try and create a piece of Malu art that well... was actually representative of her that people could share if they wanted to haha

I tried to emulate the Avatar style as best as I could using heavy references and tbh I'm pretty pleased with how this came out! I was also of course inspired by the art of the legend @kkachi95 !!

I haven't drawn my dryads in a long while. Managed to clean my room this week, so making art seems easier to initiate. I've changed their designs so many time over the years. If you're curious, check my dryad tag, or their names for older art on my blog. I take a lot of inspiration from the Guild Wars Sylvari these days too.

Willow the Dryad - She's got four arms, and no right eye. I used to have brands burned onto their bodies to symbolize Vonnie's extreme cruelty. But I think it might be over the top. So I turned the brand into an eyepatch. As for personality she's shy and speaks very little.

Duilla the Dryad - The leader of the bunch. She's got the most art, and I've updated her gardening uniform too. These drawings were colored in with pastels I smudged into the paper, since I was trying to find a full-coverage medium I can use on this flimsy paper without resorting to water-based media. Still had to seal it with mod podge, so there's still a bit of buckling. Duilla is an Irish Ash tree, poached from Ireland, and plays with plant biology. She's the first botanist to create a true black rose, which is why Vonnie snatched her from her woodland and shoved her in the palace garden.

Malu the Dryad - Malu is originally based off of a goat and a Hawthorne tree. I'm not from Europe or the UK, but I'd LOVE to visit and see a true Hawthorne in person. And to leave a gift for the faeries of course. Malu is Duilla's little helper, and she's generally chatty and sweet. She doesn't talk about how Vonnie poached her though, maybe it's too painful?
