Family Skate

I Baby Duck au l single father!jamie l

Jamie bent over trying to tie the little skates he managed to get on Kinsley's feet. She kept swinging her feet making it difficult. He switched up his stance and continued tightening the laces.

"Alright Ducky ready?" Jamie picked up the little girl, heading for the ice.

"Daddy out there" Baby duck pointed towards the sheet of ice. She wanted nothing more than be held by her favorite person while he skated around. "Out there!"

She always loved when Jamie would take her skating back in Anaheim, but since the move to Philadelphia a few weeks prior, Jamie hasn't found the a good time where he take her for a few laps around the ice.

"Yes ma'am" He laughed stepping onto the ice. Baby Duck giggled feeling the cool air on her face as Jamie skated around the rink.

"Alright little lady you want to try skating?" Jamie lowered Kinsley closer to the ice so she could try skating on her own.

"No. Daddy hold." She really didn't want to. She kept hacking away at ice beneath her while Jamie glided along.

"Kinsley, stop kicking, feet on the ice." He instructed. "Don't worry. I'm never gonna let you go." It took a little convincing, but Kinsley finally did it. She got really excited when it felt like she was doing it on her own.

“Look Duck, it’s Mia” The father point over to the side. He had found Mia taking videos and pictures of the event for the socials earlier and just now was pointing her out to his daughter.

Mia spotted them as well. She smiled waving them over. She had some warm hot chocolate for them and they decided it was time to take a break.

"Bonk" Jamie leaned over to lightly bonk Ducky on the head with his head.

Ducky giggled looking up at her daddy with a big smile on her face and tried to reach for his face but Jamie was quick to move out of the way.

After a few seconds of ducky trying to get Jamie, he places a kiss in her hair. "I love you kid"

The toddler didn't make it the entire day. Eventually she got tired and on the way back to the car, she fell asleep on her father's shoulder.

In the end it was a fun time.

Ah, she's never going to let herself live this down. She was embarrassed that she even mindlessly looked behind herself like that. You are lucky she didn't notice he was going to laugh. She tilted her head a smidge.

"Oh really?.. Poor guy"

She replied as she looked behind her again. Sure, she couldn't see the ghost, but she felt bad for him! Damn her kind heart.

"If i could do anything to help, I would.."

She mumbled to herself as she fidgeted with her hands.

"He's right behind you" [Dominic]

She knew he could see ghosts, she shouldn't be scared as a guardian angel, she really shouldn't, but she froze up when she heard him say that. She immediately looked behind herself without thinking before face palming.

"Why do I look when I know I won't see him."

She muttered to herself before looking back at Dominic as she fidgeted with her hands, sort of worried in a way. She wanted him protected and not working so much to help the ghosts.

"He's asking for help from you, right?"

My head was starting to hurt. My eyes were glazing over. I think my nose is bleeding.

"Abigail!"

My head snapped up. I shook off whatever that was. Turning around I saw the shop owner. "Ms. Nephlin! Hello!"

"How many times do I need to tell you to stop looking at my spell book?" My nose was still bleeding, but my headache was going away.

"Sorry, I've just always been interested in learning magic!"

"Is that why you're always hanging around here?"

Ms. Nelphin ran a magic novelty store. It mostly sold smaller simple magic trinkets. Necklaces to make you look a little more attractive, pencils that write as you speak, socks that never get wet. Nothing amazing.

"Well I hired you to stock shelves, not snoop through my stuff."

I got a job here thinking I could get her to teach me magic, or even learn some of it by just watching her. Turns out she rarely if ever uses it front of people.

"Yes ma'am. Sorry ma'am."

"...Tell you what. I've got a box of real cursed magic items. You want a taste of real magic? Test out three of them for me."

"Test them? But you just said they're cursed. Wouldn't that be dangerous?"

"Little bit, but since I won't be the one experiencing the curses, I can figure out what they are a lot faster and cure you of the curse as well."

"Um."

"Look, do this for me and I'll teach you an actual spell- whoa!"

I think I surprised her with how fast I got in her face. "I'll do it!"

"Good. Follow me." She led me to one of the back rooms. The one I wasn't allowed in. This storage room was huge. Way bigger than should be possible. Hell yeah.

"Here it is." Ms. Nelphin pulled a cardboard box off one of the many shelves. It looked really ordinary. Like 'you shouldn't keep cursed items in here' ordinary.

She brought the box over to me. It was full of toys mostly.

"Uh, these are cursed?"

"Yup. People think that if you curse something silly or innocuous it's less likely to be discovered."

"Uh, okay."

"Just choose three and get cursed by them. Then I'll teach you a spell."

"Okay!" I looked a bit nervously at the items. Which one to pick? Oh! I grabbed an 8-ball. "What's this do?"

"That's what we're about to find out."

I sat there holding the 8-ball. "Um should I shake it?" I did. There was a puff of smoke. Now there was a big 8 in front of me. I looked around. Oh. I'm in the 8-ball now. "What!?"

"Oh, that's kinda lame." Ms. Nelphin reached over and picked the 8-ball, and subsequently me, up. "Just a capture sphere." She sighed before cracking the 8-ball like an egg. Another puff of smoke and I was back to normal.

"So, that's one right?"

"Sadly yes." She then motioned for me to continue. I reached in and grabbed a headband with bunny ears.

"Probably turns you into a bunny! Right?" I slipped the headband on. Nothing. Then A surge of power. I was a monster. I WAS STRONG! I NEED TO FIGHT! TO KILL!

"Monster bunny. Fun."

KILL! KIL- "Uh, what just happened?"

"Monster making curse. I'm gonna hold onto these."

"I don't like how that felt."

"The weak minded tend to suffer from these types of curses"

"Weak minded?"

"Never you mind. Last one."

"Fine." I reached back into the box, not even looking. I grabbed something. I pulled out something. I opened my eyes. It was a feather duster. "How is this gonna be cursed?"

I waved it around a bit.

"Hit yourself with it."

"What? Fine." I bonked myself on the head. A puff of smoke. I was a afraid to look.

"Pfffft. Hahahahaha!"

I opened my eyes and examined myself. "IS THIS A MAID OUTFIT!? GET IT OFF!"

Chapter Four: When It Rains It Pours.

Fisher: "Attention, this is Commander Fisher! We're in pursuit of a fleeing suspect, currently exiting Delta Town and heading Northwest. Suspect is driving what appears to be a modified Ciar Phantom motorcycle. I need any available units to setup checkpoints. Do not let the suspect through."

Jae: "Uh Ma'am?"

Miranda looked ahead in time to see the suspect ramp up over an offramp and land on top of the train tracks.

Fisher: "Shit, better hang on Aryl, this isn't going to be pretty.."

Accelerating as much as possible she managed to jump their vehicle up and on to the tracks as well.

Fisher: "Suspect is using the train tracks in an attempt to evade us, we are in pursuit. Suspect seems to be heading towards the Diamond District..."

The motorcyclist swerved aside to dodge on oncoming train..something their current vehicle wouldn't be able to do. Left with no choice she swerved into the small barrier in between tracks and managed to get the car up on it's two right wheels. The left wheels scraping along the side of the passing train.

Jae: "Pretty sure we're gonna get a bill for that..."

The car finally landed back on four wheels with a thud as the motorcyclist jumped off the tracks. Undeterred by a ridiculous concept such as gravity, Fisher followed. The car landed on the ground..quite a bit worse for wear but still in pursuit.

Jae: "There! They just went down that alley! To the right!"

Before Fisher had a chance to react she heard something land on top of their car. A second later, a scythe came slicing down, nearly splitting the car in half and causing Fisher and Aryl to dive out.

The wrecked pieces of the car slid to a stop as a woman wearing a white rabbit mask and wielding a scythe leapt down.

Fisher: "Still alive Aryl?"

Jae: "Yeah, though I don't know if I want to be..."

The motorcyclist stopped and got off of the bike, making their way forward and revealing themselves to be wearing a slightly different white rabbit mask.

White Rabbit (Biker): "Well THAT was an exhilarating little chase! Kudos for keeping up. Unfortunately, you're about out of time. Someone call the fat lady, she's on in five!"

White Rabbit (Scythe): Spins her weapon around and begins to approach Fisher and Aryl.

Meanwhile, inside the nearby nightclub:

Van: "I was having a nice time!" Kicking someone aside.

Lye: "WITH CHIMERA?! She was going to kill you with lipstick you moron!" Lye was currently fighting Chimera though she wished she had her shoes, the dagger thrown to her by Mel would have to do.

Van: "I can think of worse ways to go!" Van broke off a table leg and swung it as if it were a bat. "Guess it'll work!"

Nava: "Do dates with you always turn out like this?"

Ajax: Currently lifting two people over his head and throwing them. "Only the good ones baby!"

Bonnie: "The weapon check room!" Finally having managed to fight through the various brawls going on. She knocked out the last person in her way and kicked open the door...

Chimera took a swing at Lye with her poisoned daggers only to find herself blocked by Amias? The dagger seemed unable to penetrate the strange sort of energy armor that had surrounded his body. Before she had a chance to strike Amias backflipped and kicked Chimera away from Lye.

Lye: "You can do that?!"

Amias: "Apparently?!"

Viridian: "Where did you learn to fight.."

Amias: "Growing up with as many older sisters as I did...you learn things out of necessity."

Nerys: "I need you to throw me!"

Van: "What?!"

Nerys: "Like Hecaball! Throw me up there!" She pointed to Mel upstairs fighting against a masked man.

Virdian and Van braced themselves before grabbing Nerys and throwing her through the air. Nerys landed behind the masked man and immediately punched him, causing him to stumble and get knocked back by Mel.

Bonnie came running out of the weapon check room and tossed something to everyone. Nava ended up catching a staff of sorts.

Ajax: "Convenient, we were just working with that."

Nava: "I bonked myself in the head three times in a row.."

Ajax: "But you got it right the fourth time, you can do this Nava. I know you can."

Outside:

Fisher and Aryl were struggling against the rabbited masked scythe wielder. Though Fisher had managed to activate a secret emergency beacon and hoped her ally wasn't far away. Aryl had noticed the other rabbit masked individual run over to a fire escape, making their way to the top of a building.

Fisher: "Go after them, don't let them get away. Who knows what they took from the escape craft!"

Aryl nodded and began to pursue the suspect while Fisher attempted to fight the scythe wielder.

Inside:

Masked Man: "Ridiculous..I don't have time for this.." Pressing a button on his aShine before dropping several spheres on the ground that exploded and flash banged the room. Nerys and Mel were blinded momentarily as the masked man rushed further upstairs.

Just as Van took a swing at her Chimera blew a kiss at him and shot a grappling cable up to the rafters from a wrist mounted device. She was pulled up quickly and raced to join her partner.

Lye: "Oh no, not letting that bitch get away again! Upstairs!"

Outside:

By the time Aryl had reached the roof he noticed a rather advanced looking helicopter seemingly decloak right above the building. He raced to tackle the rabbit masked suspect only to be knocked down by the scythe wielder who had used some sort of insane speed to reach the top of the building.

The masked man and chimera would soon make their way to the roof along with several of their followers. The scythe wielder rose up her blade intending to strike Jae but was suddenly knocked back as Miranda dropped down to help Jae up.

Miranda: "Good timing. Thanks for the lift."

Oct: Turning off his jetpack and landing on the ground. "Don't mention it. Been trying to find this one anyway.."

As if things weren't chaotic enough Van, Lye, and Nava finally made their way up followed by Ajax, Amias, Mel, Nerys, Viridian, and Bonnie.

The brawls seemed to pick back up right where they left off. Nava to her surprise managed to knock down several people with her staff, even blocking an attack meant for Lye. Van and Jae stood back to back as they took on whoever rushed at them.

Ajax: "Who the hell are you?"

Jae: "Jae Aryl. PWSB."

Ajax: "Little group fights pretty well together don't they?"

Bonnie: "Seems that way.."

Ajax: "Wait a second...Van, Nava, Lye, Jae? VNLJ..nah doesn't sound like anything."

Nerys: "VNLA! Vanilla!"

Ajax: "Sweet like Vanilla!"

Van: "I like this guy!"

Nava: "You and I are having a talk later!"

Ajax: "Worth it.."

Meanwhile the masked man and chimera made their way up to the waiting helicopter.

Van: "I feel like you're mocking me with that stupid mask!"

White Rabbit (Biker): "Not like yours are natural either dumbass. Surprised your clan even allowed you to have the ceremony!"

Van: "How did you.." Van was knocked back during his moment of confusion, almost stumbling off the side of the building but being grabbed by Ajax and pulled back.

White Rabbit (Biker): "Yo, time to jet baby!" Grabbing a rope and being pulled up to the helicopter.

The scythe wielder spun around rapidly, knocking down everyone around her except for Oct who somewhat reluctantly landed a punch to her mask, breaking part of it and revealing a silver eye.

A rocket was fired from the helicopter, forcing Oct back as the scythe wielder was pulled up by another rope.

In one last attempt Oct activated his jetpack, flying up and landing inside of the helicopter. Only to stand face to face with someone wearing similar but more advanced power armor. A rather odd looking helmet covering their head.

Before he could react he was grabbed by the throat and lifted up.

White Rabbit (Biker): "Ooops, sorry, we're at maximum weight capacity!"

The being in the power armor reached back with their other hand and slammed their fist into Oct's chest making some of his armor's systems start to go haywire. They'd let go and send Oct falling down to the roof of the building with a thud.

The helicopter seemed to cloak again and vanish from sight as everyone began to recover. PWSB sirens blaring in the distance.

Bells eyes light up a little, only partly from relief, as their amber brightens enough that it's impossible not to notice the change.

"there you are, my emerald," they greet him, their magic reaching over before they can think to stop it, to slip a shadow around him, and a quick hug. they withdraw it almost as quickly, with a blush now rippling through that glow. "er. you look good, love." though, he always did to them...

a bit sheepishly, and belatedly, they turn to Cyan. "I'd accuse most people of just being sweet talkers, saying that, but I'm inclined to believe you," they offer hands for pets. "I think you both know who Dame is. Dame? This is Cyan, and-"

those soft green lights turn back to their emerald spider, taking in the sight, and not hiding it. "this is Green. I'd say he dresses up pretty, but- he's always pretty damn amazing, as far as i'm concerned."

this may be slightly more to him, than her. but they don't get the chance to show off their lover nearly enough- and well, if it's an effective distraction too? that works as an excuse, right?

Green presses a delicate kiss to your shadow as it passes, his emerald eyes as soft as they always are when they're looking at you.

"As do you, my sweet butterfly." He murmurs, and just from the way he speaks Dame understands what you meant by calling him devotion and reverence in a lover.

She follows your lead and holds out her hand, smiling softly as Cyan tromps up, happily bonking at hands and accepting all the pets physically possible.

"Its a pleasure to meet you all." Dame smiles, scritching Cyan's head as it settles its muzzle on her thigh, inky tail thumping against the ground.

"Its a pleasure to meet you too, ma'am." Green inclines his head, his eyes still faintly on you, the white of his blush glowing through the strings on his cheeks.

"Just call me Dame, dearie." She smiles, scooting over to provide enough room for him to join you on the couch, chuckling as Cyan whines and follows, nudging her hands for more pets. "Aww, aren't you sweet."

...her eyes may linger on Green just the slightest bit and she tilts her head, giving you an approving glance.

This local horse ranch was doing a thing. They offer rides and do therapy things and such. There was coloring, a scavenger hunt, stickers and temp tattooes. Little activities. You got a free keychain for coloring. They had free pumpkin cake and trail mix.

They let adults and kids do guided rides around a ring. They put all us adults on before the nephew and no one was left to coax the nephew on so he backed out. But everyone else liked the ride and we all got to love on free roaming horses and goats. Even a miniature horse came by for love.

And a handful of farm cats! Big hit with the littles. This one kiddo was tormenting the younger cats lol. He was excited to hold all of them but just didnt know how to hold a cat properly.

We both liked this black horse. He kept bonking nephews helmet, he sniffed and nibbled me from head to toe. I dont know if my jeans smelled interesting or what but he went from one ankle, all the way to my face and back down to my other ankle with his sniiffler. 😂 My sister got a selfie with his head on top of hers. And then he tried to follow us back through the barn, so. He was a fan favorite.

I got a high compliment from the girl leading my horse. She asked if I'd ridden before. I'm like yeah, we used to do this church retreat, go horseback riding every year. But we haven't been in a couple years. She said something like "you couldn't tell" like she could tell I was an experienced horse rider, and not rusty. 😌 I felt honored haha

On the way home we got some peppermint frosties. I only ate 1/4. But I also had half a cup of trail mix. By the time I ate my frosty I felt so yucky. Blood sugar was 170 and probably rising. 👀💧 Still not bad if 150 is my average though!

On the way there I had started dry heaving. Which is usually a precurser to a migraine. When my nephew heard that, he tried to massage my head. Super sweet gesture, but he started rubbing exactly over my tender spot 😭 like I hadn't even started hurting yet, but that area was so very tender. OTL

I took tylenol/caffeine and I was good until after we made it to my aunts. But now I'm dry heaving again. 😔 I hope my body settles back down. I got a cold brew from Wendy's and i was super stoked to drink it. 😩

I suppose I can save it for tomorrow though... 😒

Oh yeah. We had to fill out waivers for horse riding. Adults had to fill it but minors were just tacked on to an adult's. The lady asked if I was an adult or not. I said yes. Then she's like "you're at that age where I just can't tell!"

And I'm just like. Ma'am. I'm 33. 🤣 I didnt say that but I was thinking it. It's great. I think it helped I was wearing a bandana, then you can't see my balding head, so I guess I still have a baby face. 😂 it's prolly an autistic thing lmao

Someone did tell me the other day that I still looked like a teenager. I had stopped believing my family but I guess it still holds. 👀

"Yea, I think he found out something was wrong." You explained everything to Toge. He seems to catch everything quickly, which makes you a little relaxed because you don't have to explain all over again. He took out a piece of paper and a black gel pen to write.

As Yuta's friend, I don't think he truly meant what he said last night. I can see that he was extremely upset that you weren't spending your time with him. You knew he really was heartbroken when he lost Rika, and now, he's scared that he'll lose you too. It's not that I agree with the way he used to express his feelings, but all I know is that he was too emotional to think of a better way to communicate with you. So, why not try talking to him? You both can discuss everything again and live a happy life together.

You took the piece of paper from him and read it carefully. You knew Toge wouldn't lie to you, he's just too kind to do so. Before you could reply to him, the same waitress who ordered your food came and put both of your breakfasts down.

"Enjoy your meal, lovebirds~"

"Oi, stop it. You know we ain't one." You put down the paper and look at the waitress, with a smirk on her face.

"Yes yes ma'am, mad as usual I see." She shrugged, that action successfully irritates you every time.

"Ha?" You raised an eyebrow, head tilted to the right side, confused.

"You know, you gotta stop being so mad all the time. No one would be in their right mind to marry you if you don't control your emotions." She instantly received a bonk on her head from you after finishing her sentence.

"Ouch! See? You're so mean to me! I kinda feel bad for this gentleman here, having to sit and eat breakfast with you." She covered her head out of self-protection and looked at Toge.

"Ya, say whatever you want, sis. Now, can you leave us alone and do your work properly?"

"Yes, ma'am. Hope the both of you have a nice day!" Before she ran away, she whispered something to Toge. You tried your best, but you couldn't hear, so you just let her be and start eating your breakfast. You looked down and took a bite, looked up, you see a tomato-faced Toge and your friend is nowhere to be seen.

"What did she say to you?" You asked, looking into his eyes. He just simply shook his head and took a bite of his tuna sandwich.

"Sigh, I hope she didn't say anything bad to you."

"O-okaka"

'She's kinda cute, no harm trying for once, right?' He said it in his head. He didn't know his face is getting redder and redder, and because he is covering up his face now, so you don't have the chance to tease him again :(

'Ugh! What did I do last night?' Yuta threw himself onto the couch, yelling in his head. 'Gojo sensei was there, right? Let me text him.' He took out his mobile phone and started typing.

Yuta: Good morning sensei

Gojo: Morning~ Do you need anything?

Yuta: I was wondering, do you know what happened last night?

Gojo: Uhhhhh

Yuta: Do you remember?

Gojo: I think I stayed in the restroom for a while, and when I got back everyone was gone.

Yuta: Oh, alright then. You don't know anything, I assume.

Gojo: Yea, you can say so.

Yuta: I suggest you drink grape juice instead of wine next time. Just so you won't pass out again.

Gojo: If y/n is the one who made it, then I'll drink.

Yuta: No. That's exclusively for me ONLY.

Gojo: Awww just share some with me 🥺I promise I'll keep some for youuu

Yuta closed the chat and scrolled through his contact list. Finally, he found the right person. He then pressed the voice call button and held the phone to his left ear.

"Yo, good morning."

"Morning Maki." Yuta cleared his throat before speaking.

"Do you need anything?"

"Let me get straight to the point. What happened last night?" He asked with a serious tone, eyes looking blankly at the ceiling.

"..." Maki kept quiet for a while. Debating inside whether should she tell him the truth or not.

"Well?" Yuta asked impatiently, his right-hand fingers drumming the couch arm rest.

Maki sighed, "You better not tell her." She then explained the whole situation to him without leaving any details.

"That's all, I don't know what happened after you both left. Y/N didn't tell me about it."

"Thanks. I have to go apologize now. Do you know where did she go for her mission?" Yuta stood up, searching for his car keys.

"Huh? What mission?" Maki asked with a confused tone. 'This wasn't what y/n said about in the group.'

"She said Gojo sensei sent her out for a mission... with Toge." His words stopped before mentioning Toge. He's starting to get insecure. 'Is she still mad at me? Will she dump me and be with Toge? What if Toge hits on her? What if...'

"Today is our day off, remember?" Yuta's thoughts were cut off by Maki.

'Oh ya... So she lied to me?' Both Maki and Yuta stayed silent for a while. From the statements Yuta had mentioned, Maki knew you were lying to him. She still stayed silent, although she knows what was going on, just to let Yuta calm down and think of a way to fix things up.

"Well, good luck. I still have some training to do later on." Maki broke the silence first, ready to hang up the call.

"Oh, okay. See ya around." Yuta responded. His mind is still pondering what to do about this incident.

"One last note. Don't think too much, y/n isn't that kind of person." Maki said before giving Yuta the chance to respond and hung up the phone.

'Don't think too much, huh? Then what am I supposed to do?'

One year later, you and Jack are back at the fair for more fun and shenanigans. This time, you get interrupted.

Warnings: Baby goats, fluff, powdered sugar, kissing. Also date interruptions. 

One year later and you found yourself back at the fair. Exactly one year later, right down to the day. But there was one big difference this time. 

"Here ya are, darlin'." Jack smiled as he handed you a water bottle. 

"Thank you." You took your water bottle and took a drink, currently standing off to the side out of the way of traffic. "Where do we want to go first?"

"Goats?" He suggested with a playful smile. 

You grinned. "Sure. Let's go see the goats. Just like old times." 

Jack chuckled. "Old times being last year." 

"Things were very different last year." 

"That is true. They're much better this year." 

You smiled and took hold of his hand, walking easily with him down the main thoroughfare to the animal area. 

"This way," Jack murmured to you, tugging you gently through the door. "I promise if you want, I'll let you say hi to every animal later. I got a surprise for you first." 

"A surprise?" You couldn't help but smile, more than a little smitten, as Jack led you through the animal house and to the far corner. 

"You'll see." Jack glanced back over his shoulder at you with a big smile, eyes sparkling, Stetson firmly in place. Your Stetson, the one you'd borrowed way back when, was settled on your head still. You laughed a little as Jack pulled you along with him. 

You recognized the rancher from a year ago, the one who had let you in to play with the pygmy goats. Your smile widened, and you kind of hoped you'd get to play with the pygmy goats again. 

"Roger," Jack greeted, tipping his hat to the rancher and holding out his free hand to shake. "How are ya?"

"Oh, holding together." Roger smiled. "Ma'am."

"Hi." You smiled at Roger, excited. 

"I brought all three with me," Roger said to Jack, grinning. "Figured you can pick them up after the fair is over."

"Sure," Jack agreed. He ushered you ahead of him as Roger opened a section of fence for the two of you, once again letting you in with the goats. 

"Pick up what?" You asked, puzzled, even as a baby goat drew your attention. 

"This is your surprise," Jack told you, grinning widely. "Baby goats." 

You stopped and stared at him, eyes wide, mouth hanging open a little. "What?"

"The three babies are yours," Jack continued, starting to look a little nervous. He shrugged, just a bit, and stuck his thumbs in his belt loops. "I've got a place all set up for them. And you did say you wanted some."

"You remember that?" You had thought that a throwaway comment, an idle dream. Not something that Jack would remember and make a reality for you a year later. 

"Course I do." His smile softened a little. "If you don't want 'em--"

"No!" You shook your head quickly, crouching down to greet the three babies. "No I want them. I just." You laughed a little, disbelieving. "You are absolutely incredibly incorrigible." 

Jack chuckled, crouching next to you. "But I can still make you smile," he murmured. 

Your smile widened at that and you continued playing with the little goats. They were too damn cute - one of them fell over their own feet trying to bonk into you, and sent you into a helpless laughing fit. 

After spending enough time with the goats that you wore them out, you and Jack left, after Jack assured Roger they could set a pickup time and date later. 

"Do you like your surprise?" Jack asked as the two of you washed your hands. 

"I really, really do." You beamed at him. "You're absolutely still incorrigible, but oh my gosh. You bought me goats." 

"I'll buy you more than goats," Jack murmured, wiggling his eyebrows at you suggestively. You couldn't help but laugh, flicking water at him playfully. 

You did freeze when you heard someone call your name. You turned to find your friend Kim walking over to you, pulling a man behind her. Kim was the friend who had ditched you last year. 

"Oh, hi," you said with a polite smile. You hadn't really talked to her much - she had been very busy, and you could see why now. 

"I didn't expect to see you here!" She hugged you before pulling back, and her gaze went over your shoulder to Jack. Her eyes lit up with glee. "And who's this?"

"Kim, this is Jack. Jack, my friend Kim." Your smile felt a little forced. 

"Nice to meet you," Jack said with a charming smile. 

"This is my honey, Sean! You haven't met Sean yet have you?" Kim smiled at you, as buoyant and happy as ever. 

"I have not. It's nice to meet you." You smiled and nodded to Sean. "It really was a surprise to see you, Jack and I are just headed off to get a snack." 

"Oh so are we!" Kim beamed, tucking her hand into your arm. Your skin crawled, just a little. You liked Kim, sure, but the two of you had been growing apart slowly over the past several years. Clearly she had been too busy with her new beau to bother with you. 

"Oh I don't want to interrupt your day," you deferred, glancing back at Jack for help. Jack just shrugged. 

"Oh but this will be fun! A cute double date!" Kim chirped. 

You held back your groan. That sounded like a terrible idea, honestly. But you couldn't think of a polite way to tell Kim that. You looked at Jack to see if he had any other plans. He just shook his head, just slightly. So you nodded. 

"Guess we can head this way to the food square, then," you agreed. Jack stepped closer and took your hand, giving it a comforting squeeze. 

Kim chattered on about work as your little group walked. Apparently she'd changed jobs to some entirely online work from home thing. You nodded along, letting her continue to chat. 

"I'll get us a table," Jack volunteered. When you looked at him, he winked at you with a little grin. 

"So what are you in the mood for?" Kim asked. But she didn't give you a chance to respond, instead continuing, "Oh they have Greek food! That looks good. Wanna try there?"

"Maybe," you hedges. "You two can go ahead and get your food, I'll take care of Jack and I." 

"Sure! See you at the table!" Kim bounced off, taking her boyfriend with her. 

You let your shoulders drop for a minute. Kim was an old friend, one you'd known for a long time, but one who was honestly rather exhausting. You really hadn't expected to see her - normally outings with her had to be planned weeks in advance. 

Then you took a deep breath and straightened again. You might as well get some food, and then make the most of today. You could have fun with Kim and her beau, and then make the rest of the day with Jack. It would be fine. 

You picked up a snack for yourself and Jack, and made your way to the table. Kim and her boyfriend were already seated there, and she was chatting away with Jack. Or at Jack. You couldn't quite tell if he was really paying attention or just being polite. 

"Here you go, love," you murmured to Jack, setting the plate down and sitting next to him. 

"Have you two been together long?" Kim smiled, looking between the two of you. You were glad you hadn't taken a bite yet. 

"About a year," you murmured, unable to keep from smiling, just a little. 

"Oh yeah? How come you haven't told me anything before?" Kim pouted.

"I did, I mentioned I was seeing someone a few months ago." You shrugged, unconcerned. 

Kim was silent for a moment. "You did? Huh. I don't remember that." 

"It's no big deal." You shrugged it off and took a big bite of food so you wouldn't have to talk. 

For a few minutes, there was silence at the table as you all ate. It was a pretty good snack, but no funnel cake. You couldn't help but look at Jack with a sly little smile at the thought of funnel cake. He caught your eye and returned the smile. 

"Have you done any shopping yet? I was thinking of going over to do my shopping after this. We could go together! Do what we normally do." Kim smiled at you, eager and excited. This was typical - so long as things went her way, anyway. 

"Well…"

"Sounds like fun," Jack interjected with an easy smile. You sighed but didn't actually contradict him. 

It didn't take long to get the table cleared from your snack, and Kim tucked her hand in your arm, once again chattering away with very little input from you. Honestly, she was a bit exhausting, and you weren't sure why you were still here. You'd been looking forward to spending the day with Jack, not with Kim. 

But shopping was not bad. Kim was easily distractible until she wanted to make a purchase, but you made note of a few things that you wanted to go back for. 

Jack even made things easier, walking next to you and holding your hand. Normally he didn't shy away from PDA, but he knew you were less comfortable with it. So he didn't make a big deal of it. He held your hand, and he took your bags for you (with a wink and a smile that both left your heart fluttering and reminded you of a year ago). 

"Relax," he murmured in your ear when Kim dashed on ahead to look at some pillows. "You're not being tortured."

"Suppose not," you agreed with a sigh, trying to loosen some of the tension in your shoulders. 

"Just play nice for a little longer," Jack soothed, squeezing your hand gently. "If she doesn't relent in another hour, I'll make our excuses and we can leave." 

You pouted. This was supposed to be a date, you weren't supposed to leave yet. But you nodded easily enough. "That's fair," you grumbled. 

Jack smiled and snuck a quick kiss to the space just below your ear, just to watch some of your tension melt away under his care. 

You couldn't even be mad, could only smile, a little helpless and a lot smitten. 

Shopping, fortunately, only lasted a couple hours before Kim called a halt. 

"Whew, look at the time!" Kim made a show of looking at her phone for the time. "This was fun! It was really great to see you, but we have to get going."

"Of course, I understand," you agreed with a smile, although you couldn't help but be relieved. 

"We'll have to get together soon!" Kim grabbed you for a hug, loose and a little off. 

"Sure." You patted her back a couple times and she let go of you. With one last twiddle of her fingers, she and her boyfriend were gone. 

You slumped, and Jack was next to you, keeping you steady. 

"That the friend who ditched you last year?" Jack murmured, his fingers stroking along your waist where he was holding you steady. 

"Yup."

"I can see why you only go once a year with her." Jack chuckled. "Can't say I was thrilled with the interruption to our day." 

"Neither was I," you grumbled. "But that's done now. No more talking about Kim for today."

"Well, darlin', if you still have some energy I have one more thing I would like to do." Jack smiled at you, a little mischievous. 

You perked up, looking over at him. "One more thing?"

"Mmhm." Jack slid his hand to the small of your back, gently encouraging you to move forward. Curious, you obeyed, moving where he directed you. 

It seemed, for a few minutes, that he was taking you the long way. You left the vendor tents behind, and then looped around the still-bustling food stalls. 

For a minute, you thought he was leading you back to the animals. Then he took a turn, stopping in front of a table. 

"Wait here for me?"

"Sure." 

Jack grinned and kissed you, quick and sweet, and then he vanished back into the fair. 

You turned in a slow circle, placing yourself in the fair. Your heart stuttered as you realized where you were. 

This was the same table that you'd sat at last year with him. When he'd kissed you for the first time. Your lips curled into a smile.

"Here you are, darlin'." Jack set a funnel cake down in front of you, sitting next to you with your thighs touching. "Can't not have one." He winked at you. 

You laughed, delighted. "Sounds fair to me," you agreed. 

You took a bite, powdered sugar on your fingers. And things quickly devolved into stealing bites of sugary fried dough, followed by sugary kisses. Once, you heard giggles from a pair of girls passing you by. You and Jack locked eyes… and devolved into helpless laughter yourselves. 

Finally, Jack pushed the last bit of funnel cake to you, licking his fingers clean with an over the top wink at you. You snorted and hid your giggles in the last bits of fried dough. 

Then the funnel cake was gone, and the fair was getting quieter momentarily as the early crowd left, the late crowd not yet arrived. You looked at Jack, eyes warm in the sunlight, and smiled. 

"It's been a pretty good day," you murmured, taking his hand and twining your fingers around his. 

"It has," he agreed, squeezing gently. "Bet I can make it better, though."

"Oh?"

"Mmhm." Jack leaned forward, capturing your lips in a slow kiss that still tasted of sugar. This time, he didn't pull back until you did, leaving you a little out of breath. His lips curved, more than a little smug, and he murmured one word: "Goats." 

This time, the grin came completely unbidden, smitten and joyous. "I can't believe you bought me goats." 

"Excuse you, I bought us goats," he teased.

"You totally bought me goats." You couldn't have kept the glee from your voice if you tried, and you didn't try. 

"Just because they're your favorite--" 

"And they were my surprise."

"And they were a surprise," Jack continued, grinning. "They're gonna be on the property."

"You'll show me tomorrow?"

"Sure will." 

"I still can't believe you. If I said I wanted a horse would I come back to find one?"

"Nah." Jack paused for a moment. "I'd take you with to pick out a horse."

You tipped your head back and laughed. Your hat tumbled off your head and Jack caught it, replacing it for you. 

"Anything else you want to do, sweetheart?"

You paused to consider his question, taking a look around. "I need to make one stop at the vendors, then I'm done," you agreed. 

Jack nodded agreeably and picked up your bags again before you could protest. His free hand settled on your lower back again, guiding you back to the vendor stalls. 

Now for the tricky part. You sent him on a goose chase to find more beef jerky from the place last year. And then you dove on the vendor you'd spotted with Kim, quickly purchasing a gift for Jack. 

A pair of handmade porcelain cows, salt and pepper shakers, one with a flower behind her ear. 

You tucked them in a bag and smiled to yourself. You'd give them to Jack later. 

"Ready, darlin'?" Jack asked when he spotted you, hand going to catch yours. 

"Ready." You smiled and squeezed his hand. The two of you walked down the main street of the fair, all the way back to Jack's car. 

Honestly, Kim ditching you last year had been the best thing to happen to you, and you smiled all the way home, hand still twined with Jack's.

➜ but he also couldn't help but be doubtful, doubtful of himself ─ will be a good enough father? will he be able to teach his daughter the important virtues in life? will his daughter even love him?

➜ but after a few years and oikawa would never have thought that he wanted to actually have a child or two with you, it started off when he would spend a few hours until pass midnight to watch cute baby videos
