I’m so relieved I’m done with the scholarship application and almost done with my exams 😄 The last one is tomorrow but it’s not significant at all, I’m taking it because I just like Computer Science. The exam stress will be over in about 13 hours 🥳 (it’ll come back in July when the results are published but 🤫😉)

Today actually. I went to work without the foundation I normally wear. I have a skin condition which makes me really insecure about my face, but after 1.5 weeks without make up in Italy, I got more and more used to it and decided to not wear make up any more on the good days. I want to stop hiding my face and the skin condition is not going away, but I want to accept it for what it is. Hopefully I feel confident enough again tomorrow

HRP Day 10: Snow Day ❄️ After suffering through a humid and snore-filled night in the refugio’s bunkroom, I emerge in the morning to find the world blanketed in snow. I guess sleeping indoors was better than packing a wet shelter in the cold this morning? Last night's weather would have pushed the temperature limits of my gear 🏕️ After opting out of breakfast—I’ve been carrying far too much food and have been only disappointed with refugio breakfasts—I begin my day’s hike with @davifah - the first time I’m hiking with someone else 👯 That said, he’s only out for a few days on a hike that’s not the HRP, so our time together is short-lived. I’ve yet to meet another HRP thru-hiker 😔 The snowline is not far below Refuge de Bayssellance, and before long, the trail is snow-free. It was exciting while it lasted 🫠 A long descent down the valley leads to a dam, where the HRP crosses and begins contouring in and out of adjacent valleys. It winds past unstaffed shelters, livestock, and waterfalls toward the town of Gavarnie 🐃 There’s a road that takes a much more direct route out of this valley, and it looks like it would be a nice bad-weather alternative. That said, I’m still trying to keep this hike high whenever possible ↗️ I reach Gavarnie, a touristy town where the road dead ends into a cirque, and check the weather. According to the forecast, a storm is rolling in over the next two days. Could I hike through? Sure. Do I want to? No. I consider my options for Gavarnie accommodation ⛈️ However, a larger town, Luz-Saint-Sauveur, is not far away. Since there’s only one road in and out of here, I try my luck hitchhiking. A bus that won’t leave for another 3 hours is my backup option 🚌 There’s not much traffic, but before long, I’m picked up by a friendly couple from Italy/Spain who deliver me to the small center of Luz-Saint-Sauveur. It’s not a huge town, but there are outfitters, a supermarket, hotels, and restaurants (aka a much better place to wait out storms than in a mountain shelter) 🏙️ Time for a zero day 🥳 Refuge de Bayssellance to Gavarnie Distance: 11.79 mi / 18.97 km Elevation: 1,417 ft / 432 m #hauteroutepyrénéenne #pyreneeshighroute

Heya, so I'm juuuuust starting to watch some stuff about F1 after previously having zero interest in the sport (I dislike most sports in general, but thats another discussion). Anyway, the friend who helped spark my interest in it offered some places to start consuming and getting a handle on the sport, Drive to Survive being one of them. I was wondering if there was any advice you'd offer to someone trying to feel out the sport for the first time. Cheers!

p.s. This friend mentioned she follows players more than teams and mentioned Lewis Hamilton bc he seems like a really cool person. I googled him and yeah, he really does and when I saw him on your blog I thought, "Nice! Maybe I should pester this person a bit about advice 😏"

Welcome to the circus!

To cut right to your questions: You got good timing coming into the sport 😊 The new season is beginning soon 🥳 Following the team(s) on IG or twitter is a good starting point to get news.

To be honest, I’m kinda divided on DTS. I personally don’t watch nor much like it, because they like to up the drama (not that this sport needs that. there’s been enough drama for centuries the last two years alone lol). Also I dislike the way they portray certain drivers at times. Generally it is a good starting point, but I wouldn’t take all my impressions from the show.

I think the best way to get into it is genuinely just watching a race, preferably with the community 😁 F1blr and F1twt both have huge followings, although Twitter is, as always, more difficult/toxic. Gotta make use of that block button. What I definitely can recommend tho are the TeamLH twitter spaces, often hosted by 7hanos876. Another account I can whole heartedly recommend is Athena (@tarmactorque).

You could also watch some older races if you want to see what F1 can be when the stars all align lol. There’s some strong contenders from the last few years alone, my absolute face as a Lewis fan being Brazil 2021, where he was disqualified in Qualifying and started last on the grid. What’s also always very emotional is first times. Every race won by someone who has never stood on the top step of the podium before is a tearjerker, no matter who it is. I recommend Italy 2020 for that, or Hungary 2021.

One silly goofy race was Spa 2021. It was a very rainy day and they postponed the race start for hours, but continued to broadcast. A lot of memes were born that day lol.

If you decide to start with this year’s Bahrain it might be good to know that there’s tracks with less racing action (which for most fans means less fun) and tracks where the talking is “done on the track”. There are strategy nerds who really enjoy the more tactical races tho. When pit strategy and qualifying position decide the outcome of the race. Bahrain is usually not the MOST exciting, but also not the worst.

Regarding the drivers, it really depends on what is important to you 😄. I’m TeamLH with my whole heart, followed by GR63. I personally don’t support racers who have publicly shown to be bigots. Idk what everyone does behind closed curtains, but if they’re comfortable saying slurs on live radio, they can’t be that great of a person (aka VER who has a long history of… well. All of that.) Personally, I’m kinda neutral towards half the grid, w my two faves and a few ones I really dislike. With interviews, social media and the reactions towards certain things (e.g. BLM kneeling a few years ago, Abu Dhabi 2021) I think its quite easy to see which drivers align with your interests and morals.

I guess I don’t have to explain where one can watch F1 but just to get it out there: Some countries have free streams, so if you have a vpn you can watch it there (swiss for example). Also F1Tv can be tricked by a vpn 😄 I normally would have to subscribe to sky here in Germany, but use nordvpn to be able to watch f1tv for a LOT LESS money.

I'll try to not end up at the hospital for xmas like last year 🙏🏻

I'm actually doing the STRICT minimum at work to not be like last year...and I think my colleagues are little bit bitter about it ? Like....I was not SO invested for making the 24 christmas presents of the kids (because my colleague choose a gift that take US SOOOOO MANY TIME to make). I'm just preparing for a parent meeting, a photo album of a kid...and that's all. I don't care...i'm trying to survive here 🥲.

Also almost no one know that but I'm gonna share it on Tumblr (you should feel privileged 😂😂)....I'm gonna have my 1ST TATTOO next week 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳 I'm SOOOO EXCITED but also scared 🥲! It's like a....reward because I survived this year which was one of the shittiest one of all my life. The meaning behind is not that deep but the hidden meaning behind it is....kpop related. Atiny would look at it and be like "OH !!!!" But if you don't know about the reference you would never guess its about kpop (also if you don't know me 🤣🤣). I've decided to make it quite subtle for non-kpop people but the symbol is VERY STRONG in the fandom.

Also my concerts plan for 2023 is growing slowly and i'm getting excited as well !!!!

Also i'm going to Italy, Firenze for the first time during the 1st week of january with my mother ♡ it's been like....4 years I didn't go to Italy so I really miss it !

I don't want to be this person who complain about her year but I had a whole year with [rant time, sorry]

- 2 knees operations because of a very rare infection

- 2 weeks hospitalized and they discovered my hospital roomate got covid the day I had to be discharged...3 more days hospitalized

- My appartment got robbed while I got hospitalized

- Had to cancel all my Dubai flights and my skz ticket concert because of that shit

- A cyst operation (because it was 8cm and could be cancer (thx god it was not))

- A bladder infection because of the operation

- Crutches for 5 months, antibiotics for 2 months, physical therapist for 6 months

- No work for 5 months, being depressed on my sofa, crying every day

- my fancall with Yongguk didnt get through my cellphone....I watched him calling me and me not being able to answer

- my grandpa got covid and died

- we received my grandpa's will and he desherited me and my sis

- the big mess with lawyers and my aunt/uncle started (it ended up fast and well)

I went to Italy with my Italian teacher 👩🏻‍🏫 and one another student from my school. We were on the small island called Lampedusa 🏝, which is the southernmost part of Europe 🌍. We were there to commemorate and be a part of the “COMITATO 3 OTTOBRE” organization, which has become a tradition on this island because of the tragedy that happened on 3rd October 2013. ⛴However, a fishing boat carrying migrants from Libya to Italy sank off and at least 368 people died and 155 people survived. 😢 On the occasion of the “Day of Remembrance and Reception”, the project “WE ARE IN THE SAME BOAT” aims to strengthen the awareness and knowledge of young people of school age on the themes of migration, global interdependence, human rights, cultural integration and reception of migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. 👩🏼‍🎓

Reflection ❤️‍🩹

This was my first time in Italy and I adored it so much. Now I can tell Italy is one of the most beautiful countries in the world for sure 😍. Their people are so decent and kind. I have tried so many different things on this journey, and this refers mostly to their food🍦🍕🥐 .Also, it was my first time ever traveling by plane and I enjoyed every second of it ✈️. I even thought to myself to become a pilot one day but that thought, unfortunately, did not last long. 😅 One of the best things that happened is that I got to meet new people, make new friends.🌐 There was, besides ours, about 50 other school from all around Europe. 🥳 We all had the same program in the school of Lampedusa where were organized many workshops. 🤝 So I have learned many new things about migrants and refugees and the importance of human rights. It is just sad when people don’t understand that we are all the same and that we should all have some respect for each other. 😩 We have to learn to remove prejudice and stereotypes because it is the only way to live in peace. ✌🏼☮️🕊😌

It's my birthday today! 🥳🎉

Right now, I'm with my family in Milan. This time last year, I was in Canada. I work and live in Toronto, but I come home for a month or two every year.

Last year, Toronto was in a lockdown, and Milan was also in a bad place. It had the second highest number of COVID cases in Italy. Despite all my safety measures, I caught the flu. It wasn't COVID, but I was advised to isolate for two weeks at home.

I felt horrible. I tried to keep myself productive and active, but it wasn't working. I just wanted to sit in one place all day and let the darkness of my thoughts take over.

I have two very close friends, Riccardo and Martina, both of whom I've know since I was eight and ten years old. (I'm 26 now) Both of them have families in Milan, but they live in Toronto. They live in the same apartment building about five minutes from mine. But I couldn't even meet them.

So, after almost two weeks of isolation, I decided I would got to the local park and stretch my legs a little.

However, as I stepped outside my door, I was met with an odd sight. The little mailbox next to my door was just about overflowing with get-well-soon cards, birthday cards and an assortment of boxes with all sorts of homemade birthday goodies. (There went my workout, cuz I sure as hell went through every single one of them!)

The cards were addressed to me, from various neighbors, some on my floor, others who I had never heard of.

It turns out, the family that lives next to me, heard that it was my birthday from Martina. Mrs. Khan told some other neighbors what was going on, and they decided to make me some good old, homemade treats.

In the card her daughter gave to me, it read: "We know this probably won't compare to your mother's cooking. (She was a chef for most of her life, btw) But I hope you can taste the familiar love of home and family in them. I know it was hard for you here in the beginning, but I hope you enjoy the brownies. - Made with love, from Amina and Zainab."

A few weeks later, I left for Milan. But the rest of my stay was great. I was no longer moping about, instead I was happy!

This happened a year ago, but today reminded me of them. They're the best neighbors I could have ever asked for.

I know this is a long story, but I just wanted to share with you guys, how much of a difference their little thought made to me. I was depressed and in a horrible state all year long, and they made me feel like Me again.

It just goes to show you how much a little action can make somebody else feel.

My flying 2022

In spite the fact that 2022 started with drinking contaminated water resulting in 6 times throwing up in the new year's night and basically a detox for 2 days, this year was actually a good year.

To sum up, I have visited and flown in lots of places, some of them new for me [ Tenerife Spain, Bassano,Monte Avena, Gemona, Levico Terme Italy,  Kobala Slovenia, Breitenberg Germany, Oludeniz Turkiya] , some nice flights in Brasov area, Romania and I met some amazing people in my trips. I also realised that I usually live in some kind of bubble that I created for myself . Of course, not everything was great everytime, but that is another story I have written about before [ see How to choose wisely your paragliding SIV course]

I guess no one can say that I haven't tried, I managed going flying almost every weekend, on my less busy Fridays or whole weeks, even that the good weather was not always by my side.

In Romania, this year was Brasov year for me, as I managed to make some memorable flights from that place.

One of my best and most beautiful flights was the one taking off from Bunloc, climbing over Piatra Mare, passing over Cheile Rasnoavei, near Postavaru, going over the northern part of Bucegi, passing over Bran Castle, Magura Branului, climbing over Piatra Craiului and landing near Zarnesti..just pure joy.

Another cool flight was in Germany, flying with Spike and fellow pilots from Poland over the Neuschwanstein Castle, very beautiful landscapes and colours.

That week in the Alps was not the best weather so we managed to fly some more in Italy from Levico Terme, Gemona and even the usual Bassano.

At the end of August I decided within a day notice to go to Serial Cup, a competition in Slovenia where everyone flies only B or C wings. The level is not low, because many advanced pilots choose to come and fly serial wings for competing here.

The idea was to go there, try to learn some new stuff, be aware of what is going on around me and try to follow the best, and also try to make the goal if this is possible. And it was possible in the first day of the competition, I was very slow and I did not follow anyone because they were much faster than me, but with patience and motivation I made it into the goal! That was my first time ever! Cool feeling!

Next few days of the competition were short because of the strong Bora wind or clouds overdevelopment.  We had one task in Lijak, where I was a bit confused over my navigation map and lost the altitude by going absolutely chaotic towards the last turnpoint, ending up landing on a field very close to the goal...

But in female cathegory I was on the 3rd place, so for my first attempt, I guess this is a good result, even if overall I was on 51st place. I am aware that female cathegory is just for motivating female pilots to go to competitions, but this has been great, as paragliding is only a hobby for me.

So..busy summer for me, trying to catch the good weather, following the sun..
