Brave Combat Federation held the ceremonial weigh-ins for “Brave 23: Pride and Honor” on April 18, 2019 at the Abdali Mall in Amman, Jordan. The 24 mixed martial artists involved in the 12 bouts confirmed their official weights in front of a massive crowd with heated staredowns all around.
Before the weigh-ins, the main fighters in the stellar card answered media questions in a pre-event press conference. It was then that the rivalry between Eldar Eldarov and Mounir Lazzez rivalry finally spilled over as the two traded barbs over the Tunisian contender’s comments that the Bahrain-based Russian fighter was not an elite, well-rounded MMA fighter but only a great wrestler.
Eldarov and Lazzez will co-headline “Brave 23: Pride and Honor.” They will compete for the inaugural Brave CF Super Lightweight World Championship title.
“Let him believe that I’m just a wrestler,” Eldarov said during the press conference. “I’ll tell you this. I’ll beat him at his own game.”
Lazzez interrupted Eldarov. The Tunisian fighter said he wanted to “stand in the middle of the cage and exchange blows” with his Russian opponent and even suggested a change in their contract for just a stand-up fight.
The exchange of words between Lazzez and Eldarov escalated. However, there were not any incidents when the two later faced off after confirming their weights.
Another title fight that heated up was the Lightweight championship bout between champion Abdul-Kareem Al-Selwady and challenger Luan “Miau” Santiago. Throughout the week, the Brazilian striker had been provoking the champion and the Jordanian defending champion decided to fire back during the press conference.
Al-Selwady claimed he was going to beat Santiago at his best and make sure he knew that the titleholder was the better fighter of the two. The Brazilian challenger did not flinch when asked about the Jordanian support and reiterated that he was “going to beat Al-Selwady up and go back to Brazil with the belt.”
Santiago and Al-Selwady men kept going back and forth during their staredowns but were separated by Brave CF president Mohammed Shahid. Meanwhile, Shahid had no trouble with the main event as the champion Jarrah Al-Selawe and the challenger Abdoul Abdouraguimov kept their composure and did not say a word to each other.
Brave CF’s historic return to Jordan will be available live and free on Brave TV where fans from around the world can watch the show by signing up to bravecftv.com. However, Brave TV will not be available in the United States, the Middle East, North Africa, the Philippines and India.
For the the fans from the regions where Brave TV is not available, “Brave 23: Pride and Honor” will be shown through Brave CF’s partners namely at Fite TV in the U.S., Abu Dhabi TV in the Middle East and North Africa, ESPN5 in the Philippines and MTV in India.
