The arrivals
The MS Oldenburg arriving at the Jetty on Lundy Island The boat is a crucial link for the Island, it’s a lifeline for the Island as it not only brings passengers but supplies and communications from the mainland. One Autumn day, I sat watching the boat arrive at the Jetty, I penned a few observational notes, what follows is the result. I watch and wait as she arrives, from Bideford she set…

This is the MS Oldenburg. She ferries passengers and cargo to and from Lundy Island. Here she has just docked and you can see fresh stores on the quayside.
Interestingly, to me, she was launched just 10 days after I was born. Difference is she’s still working. Maybe I should have had a renovation in the 80′s too....🤣🤣

Gina Beavers
Gina Beavers is an artist who lives and works in Newark, NJ. She holds a BA in Studio Art and Anthropology from the University of Virginia (1996), an MFA in Painting and Drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2000) and an MS in Education from Brooklyn College (2005).
She creates paintings and installations from photos culled from the Internet and social media and rendered in high Acrylic relief. Series include paintings based on the creative realms of body painting, social media user's photos of their meals, make-up tutorials, memes, and body builder selfies.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
To create her three-dimensional canvases, artist Gina Beavers often works closely from photographs or Google image searches, reproducing even the smallest of details. Her reverence for the original image extends photorealism to its extreme in her reliefs of acrylic paint, pumice, and glass beads. Her work walks the line between high and low, and art and craft, while, as critic Roberta Smith once wrote, Beavers “exaggerates and satirizes the act of painting.” Favorite subjects include food, which she renders with the deflated realism of a Claes Oldenburg sculpture, and the human form, as seen in images of a body-painted Demi Moore or exaggerated six-pack torsos.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I chose to research Gina Beavers because her work on human form really intrigued me as it was not only human form it was 3D and sculptural, it also reminded me of my sculptured toe shoes by the texture and unusuality of them.
Though my work was made with toilet roll and pva glue, hers was not, it was made with acrylic paint and acrylic moulding paste, some of her larger sculptures required wood with the acrylic moulding paste to create a larger structure.
I also like her take on the human form as its not accurate, its her own interpretation, its got her own style on top of it which is key as she uses found images off Instagram and google.

Jim Dine no Il Palazzo delle Esposizioni
Tumblr media
Jim Dine | A Thin Kindergarten Picture, 1974. Centre Pompidou
Tumblr media
Jim Dine | Long Island Landscape, 1963
Em certa ocasião disse: “I cannot paint about nothing. I cannot make work about nothing. I would be lost if all I had was an empty room” ( Não posso pintar sobre nada.

Choral singing has been hit hard by the pandemic
A FEW MONTHS ago Emilia Olsson, a social worker in Sweden, received an email from her amateur choir informing her that, because of covid-19, there would be no rehearsals for a couple of weeks. Then they were cancelled until the summer. She missed the music-making, Ms Olsson says, but especially the sense of community, which had prompted her to join the choir in the first place.
A quintessentially social art form, choral singing has been devastated by the pandemic. Suddenly, groups of people exhaling together in close proximity seem dangerous. According to Sonja Greiner of the European Choral Association-Europa Cantat (ECA-EC), an umbrella group for choirs, rumours of super-spreading at rehearsals were unfounded. In any event, they were suspended en masse, along with concerts and church services.
All this is causing financial hardship for professional singers and heartbreak for amateurs. According to Chorus America, a networking group, 42.6m Americans regularly sing in choirs; the country has almost 270,000 choruses, most of them religious. In Europe an estimated 37m people take part. In many places, choirs bring together individuals who have little in common besides a love of music. Researchers at Oxford University, and at the universities of Oldenburg and Vienna, have found that amateur choral singing helps...

Nearly 2 out of 3 people with Multiple Sclerosis will experience an issue with cognitive functioning, according to the National MS Society. Cognitive function is similar to the processing of data much like a computer does, it stores it, processes it, and generates output based on the data. As a result people with MS may experience problems with information processing that can include problem solving, memory and attention. (more)

Ms. Lundquist's Lower School art class has been busy! They created sgraffito scratch boards (top) focusing on color, line design and symmetry and asymmetry. Our art inspiration was the sand mandalas created by Tibetan monks. They also studied African American abstract painter Alma Woodsey Thomas for black history month (bottom). Student mixed their own colors and we focused on balance, mark making and color mixing for these pieces. In addition to these projects, they also made food sculptures inspired by modern art sculptor Claes Oldenburg. We're proud of our little artists! 🎨⚓️ https://ift.tt/2O85cR9

Crazy. Sexy. Cool AF. “The sexual obsession and the fear of sex sit side by side in me.” ~ Yayoi Kusama, 1963 Yayoi Kusama (born March 22, 1929) is a Japanese artist and writer. Throughout her career she has worked in a wide variety of media, including painting, collage, scat sculpture, performance art, and environmental installations, most of which exhibit her thematic interest in psychedelic colors, repetition and pattern. A precursor of the pop art, minimalist and feminist art movements, Kusama influenced contemporaries such as Andy Warholand Claes Oldenburg. The Japanese dynamo has been the beating heart of the avant-garde art scene since her arrival in New York in 1957. Although largely forgotten after departing the New York art scene in the early 1970s, Kusama is now acknowledged as one of the most important living artists to come out of Japan, and an important voice of the avant-garde. Kusama is also a published novelist and poet, and has created notable work in film and fashion design. Major retrospectives of her work have been held at the Museum of Modern Art in 1998, the Whitney Museum in 2012, and Tate Modern in 2012. In 2006, she received a Women's Caucus for Art Lifetime Achievement Award.[5] In 2008, Christie's New York sold a work by Kusama for $5.1 million, then a record for a living female artist. In 2015 Artsy named her one of the Top 10 Living Artists of 2015. Since 1977, Ms. Kusama has lived by choice in a mental hospital in Tokyo due to nervous disorders and hallucinations stemming from childhood. She continues to paint and create to this day in her artist studio across the street from the psychiatric hospital. She is 87 years old. Germany, 1444, made on MS Paint and based on Europa Universalis IV. Germany is fractured in a multitude of states in the Holy Roman Empire. Austria is the biggest one, sporting her Holy Roman Crown and iconic Habsburg chin, while offering a wedding ring to Hungary to her east. Bohemia already got hitched to Austria. His wedding ring is chained, and his forearm branded. That worries his vassal, Silesia. Saxony and Anhalt are both porcelain dolls, due to the Meissner Porzellan. Brandenburg, known for his military traditions and space-marines, points his rifle towards a target to expansion, Pomerania and her Pomeranian. Mecklenburg still has an auroch, like in his flag. There are the northern city-states of the Hansa. Lübeck is the richest, but he’s also counting on Hamburg, Verden, Bremen and Oldenburg. The peasant republic of Dithmarschen has seized its means of production, and looks curiously like Marx. East Frisia is the only one to be out of the empire. Friesland shares the hearts from her flag, while Gelre inspects a tulip with Utrecth. Cologne, Trier and Mainz are the Ecclesiastical Electors, represented by nuns and a bishop. Other theocracies include Münster, Liége, Alsace, Augsburg, and Magdeburg. We have a iconic Bavaria, and the German nobles, The Count Palatin of the Rhine, Wurzburg, Nassau, a Hessian Hussar, Cleves, Brunswick, Ansbach, Lüneberg and Saxe-Lauenberg. The free-cities of Memmingen, Aachen, Nuremberg, Ravensburg, Frankfurt and, of course, the Mighty Ulm, are all there. A protective Switzerland and a Mozart-looking Salzburg complete the picture.
Prints avaliable at Redbubble, here.
