Idk if it's technically a classic but it would have been you by @the--descension is one of the best if not the best zk fic I've ever read. It's currently on hiatus, but is still well worth a read. Also it has a mongoose. This is plot-relevant. I can and will rant about it in more detail if I get any encouragement.

the--descension is a great writer in general, so really anything by her is gonna be good. be still, my foolish heart, don't ruin this on me is a wonderful oneshot if you're looking for modern AU cuteness. I'm going to stop listing her fics now, just, all her fics are awesome she's a great writer

@gemgirl28 has a lot of fluffy, adorable oneshots. I got too busy to keep up with her new fics a while ago and haven't caught up since, partly cause my brain is uncooperative, but they are cute, they are fluffy, someday I will read all the new ones.

I'm sure there's more- there are a lot of great zutara fics out there- but this is just what I thought of off the top of my head.

Question for any Zutara shipper out there.What would would you consider to be the ultimate classic Zutara fics? Like ‘You HAVE to read these!’

oh you asked about Mongz now i'm going to gush about my amazing child. i don't know how chaotic mongooses are normally, but she's very chaotic. they work as a support mongoose, and she terrorizes the people their person tells her to terrorize and no one else. they like sand. also, she recently discovered they like burrowing under pillows to sleep. she's so adorable. i share custody with their person, Azula. she's also cute. not as cute as Mongz. thank you for asking about her :) - chaotic good

Hm... I approve of the selectively terrorizing mongoose. This creature sounds delightful, and they have my chaotic blessing.

you're amazing. also, Mongz update: when they were at ember island, Mongz found ty lee's pillow mountain. after they got back she tried to burrow under the couch pillows, but they just aren't as good. so then, a few days ago, they discovered Azula's pillows. and burrowed under them when Azula was trying to sleep. Mongz is delighted with her discovery. Azula considerably less so. i love my child. thank you :) -chaotic good

wow. thank you so much! Mongz is a yellow mongoose. see? *holds up Mongz* she also enjoys cuddles, but only when they already know the cuddlee. she tends to get into, ah, adventures. they can also be pretty stubborn (i blame Azula and me. we're both stubborn). in conclusion, this is my child and i love her. -chaotic good

I'd love to hear about Mongz's adventures and...who is Azula? Is it the Princess of the Fire Nation or someone by the same name. In middle school, some people called me Azula since my deadname was a bit hard to pronounce and I gave them that as a suggestion since she's my favorite character from ATLA besides Sokka!

Can I just say that you’re asking the real important questions here, anon, and that I went on a quick Wikipedia search to see how mongooses fare in pop culture? (Never mind that Google now definitely thinks I want to adopt a mongoose, and never mind that I now know mongooses are illegal in the US and that there is a Tamil movie where the actor turns himself into a mongoose and that Pablo Neruda had a pet mongoose??)
