4. Is there a popular pairing you don't necessarily dislike but aren't too invested in?

I'm honestly pretty neutral towards most of the canon implied ships... Inosuke and Aoi is sweet but not super eye catching, same with Tanjiro and Kanao...

The characters are already interesting and compelling by themselves, pairing them together is fun but their dynamic feels a bit too surface level to get me as obsessed as I usually get with my non-selfship OTPs

17. What's a book, movie, or show you think Muichiro would like?

It's hard to answer this without being biased but I feel like, in a modern setting/AU Muichiro would enjoy Demon Slayer itself as well as Arcane! Though I'm pretty sure he'd be more invested in games than shows and all

Nope, I am incredibly predictable and the moment I saw Muichiro, back in season one, my brain immediately went "yep, that one's mine" and I haven't stopped being obsessed with him since!

I have other favorites, but none to the level that Muichiro's at, including my other KNY F/Os!

Definitely this one!! The composition is so nice, as well as the eye-catching colors, just very beautiful and full of personality!!

22. Give us a headcanon for Momo and Okarun

I feel like Momo is able to chit chat with literally everyone and anyone!

She goes to the store and leaves knowing two thirds of a cashier's life story

She walks back from school by herself and she ends up venting/ranting about her day to a random street dog or cat that decided to follow her along

Meanwhile, Okarun can and will collect everything he can correlate with his interests, to the point where he has a whole stash of random paraphernalia back at his house!

Rocks shaped like aliens or cryptids, fortune cookie messages, cutouts from magazines and newspapers, he's got a little bit of everything!

hello to anyone who’s reading this. i’m teru. i’m in my early 20s. she/her. this blog is to essentially engage in any and all media fandoms that i jump into and share my insights as well as post about my fics. i usually engage in a wide variety of fandoms, ranging from books/anime/manga/webtoons/shows/movies and even, occassionally, kpop though the latter is probably just going to be reblogs. i write metas for media i am more invested in while other source material might get a short review + shit posting.

I have found a new hyper fixation. I have become incredible obsessed with Momo and Okarun's relationship I swear to God.

They are just the cutest thing ever. How they just want to be around each other. Just getting each other in ways that I can't describe.

They are absolutely going on my list of OTPs.

The first thing I want to bring up (Because of your tags) is that Dandadan is, at its core, a romcom.

I am sick of people pointing this out. I know it's a rom-com. In fact, I even like Momo and Okarun's relationship most of the time. It's plausible and compelling without needing any rom-com bullshit to add pointless drama. (A point I used to explain more consistently, but people kept saying the same stuff regardless.) That makes the times when Tatsu throws some rom-com bullshit at the wall frustrating, especially when it's repetitive rom-com bullshit.

Aira, Jiji, and Vamola are all characters thrown in who don't really threaten the OTP, but one OTP member thinks they do, and that member feels like their relationship with the other is threatened. The differences boil down to Okarun handling it differently than Momo and Aira being pushier than Vamola. (Also there wasn't as much "downtime" after Vamola's introduction.)

And it doesn't help that the Aira and Jiji romcom bullshit didn't do anything except romcom bullshit. Momo/Jiji was never gonna be a thing so no thing happened, and while Aira pestered Okarun for a bit nothing really came of it.

Contrast that with the three Ranma½ characters I'm confident putting into that same broad category—Tatewaki Kuno, Kodachi Kuno, and Mikado Sanzen'in. All three of them act on their crushes in ways that move the plot forward. (Mostly into gimmicky martial arts matches, but they're differently gimmicky martial arts fights.)

If it wasn't for those suitors, Ranma½ would not have a plot; they're not just romcom complications. (Romcomplications?) Also, they're not framed as typical romcom complications; they're less likely to make Akane or Ranma question the other's feelings than annoy Ranma and Akane into a gimmicky duel.

Dandadan's dalliances don't have that kind of prominence. The characters matter, but it didn't take long for Aira's protagonist syndrome to fully eclipse her crush on Okarun and I can't remember a time when Jiji's (???) with Momo did anything except irritate her. The romcom bullshit is just there to add some romcom bullshit.

And to reiterate: When I say "romcom bullshit," I don't mean "being a romcom". I'm referring to the invocation of romcom clichés instead of developing the romance more organically or uniquely. Dandadan does that...it just also throws in the occasional scoop of romcom bullshit.

So, after the Dandadan dudududes beat up a kaiju, it shrank to human size and a girl popped out. That girl promptly kissed Okarun, causing chaos. Once they borrow a semi-functional translator from their local friendly alien, the girl says that her name is Vamola and she came to Earth looking for a powerful person to fight, and if she lost to that person she'd marry them.

Kinta butts in, pointing out that Okarun did not actually beat Vamola, emphasizing his contribution. Momo and Aira later bring up their critical role. Beating Vamola's kaiju suit was a team effort! Vamola ignores them and sticks with Okarun, because that produces the most romantic "drama," and that seems to be the entire reason for this plot point.

The two big problems I have with this are that it doesn't seem to go anywhere (which may be a premature judgement so I will not mention that again in this post) and that I've seen it before. Not only is "new character threatens to start a romantic relationship with one of the leads" something I've seen a million times before—three to five times in the Ranma½ reboot alone!—it's something that's happened before in Dandadan specifically, with a girl expressing romantic interest in Okarun, and with Momo reacting in a similar way.

If Vamola's going to introduce romantic complications, it should be something new. For instance:

Vamola: [...]and if I lose, the powerful person and I get married. Okarun: But I didn't beat you on my own. Heck, I fell out of the giant robot pretty early. Everyone beat you by working together. Kinta: Especially me! Vamola: Oh. I see. Vamola: So all of you beat me together? Momo: That's what Okarun said. Vamola: Then I guess all of you will marry me together.
