I can't believe they made MO5 canon just like that. That's awesome. I feel like there has always been a question whether or not the movies were au, and that clears it up for me.

What was the point of this episode and the callback to MO5 though?

My guess is simply to clarify that the movies are Canon- except, of course, AU Ash movies.

Thoughts and theory time:

1. The Latias and Latios in MPM10 are the offspring of MO5 Latias that we see at the end of MO5.

2. Potentially, MO5 Latias could come find Ash in the last episode and join him now that her children are grown and can guard Alto Mare. However, I doubt she would leave her brother's soul dew.

3. This could be a metaphor. The children of the MO5 Latias are the new guardians of Alto Mare. The new children, Liko and Roy, will be the new protags of the anime. It is passing the baton. Could it be hinting that one or both of them are children of previous main characters? Could Pokemon really create a new generation and finally age up the original characters? I doubt it, but maybe.

Y'know, I always loved that one moment in Pokemon Heroes when Oakley trapped Ash, Pikachu, and Latias in a pillar of water, and Latias just blowing the pillar the fuck up, for two specific reasons. First, it actually brings reality to Oakley. It's like, the sheer realization comes to Oakley that the DMA is not impossible to counter, and that she isn't unstoppable because she's controlling it. Like, her face when Latias makes the DMA malfunction is just like, "oh SHIT-" as the realization hits her.

Second of all, Latias is just fucking done with their bullshit. They captured and tortured her brother, stole the jewel containing the soul of her father, and are now on the verge of destroying her home. So she just straight-up puts her badass pants on and uses Safeguard to blow that fucking water vortex to a million droplets. That blast noise is all so satisfying when she just destroys it, proving that she IS considered a guardian for a reason. She is absolutely not incapable though her childish attitude earlier and general skittishness seemed to point in another direction.

Overall, probably my favorite moment out of ANY Pokemon movie.
