feeling emo and sentimental... i'm gonna share my new years resolutions... i already talked about them on peach but i might as well share here too... kinda long though but i think i'll make a tldr at the end
become face and body neutral - like throughout these last few months i took selfies and nudes of myself and i feel like by doing that i got more neutral towards how i look. like idk nothing gets done feeling so negatively about yourself. the selfies thing was honestly to also find my angles HAJSDFHSAF but also i'd like to take selfies better too. as for the nudes part like idk i think i will be keeping all that to myself but it's the same idea for my face i suppose, i look good and i feel neutral. i dont have to edit a selfie or a nude for my skin to be smoother or whatever like i look fine and i can just exist like Relax... also my cheeks are becoming rounder YES GOD!!!!
work out more - well i've already been working out anyways and this year i'm happy because i got to improve my core strength a bit so that's good. i do it so that way my back is not in pain and same goes for my legs so YAAAY for not being in pain
cook more - i've been very on and off about this....like heinously HJASHDFJASF uhm something that got me back into cooking though is fried rice like that will never fail me and this time i really got it down so YAAAS... i'd like to cook more in the future and get better at it... btw i dont think i talked about it but i got a new rice cooker and it is very good like yes god!!
play and clear my video games - i've been playing ff7r mainly lately and recently for christmas i bought project diva x on the ps4 on sale... i'd like to own a physical version of that game someday but everywhere is selling it for full price or whatever like i'm not paying that much for a flop game... well anyways i'd just like to play more beyond my silly mobile games and perhaps i'll even play MMOs... but i'd like to play the games i have on the consoles i have (psp, psvita, ps3/4, etc.) and just finish them or revisit others
animate more - okay i only really started doing that this year because of oomf's birthday and hatsune miku's birthday but i'd like to make more... i do have a lot of ideas but that all requires me to finish my 3d models speaking of which...
model more - i already kinda talked abuot this on my art blog but i did Technically model more compared to last year, only 3 models in 2022, this year i made 6... whoa... well i guess the amount doesn't really matter but i would like to really just practice more, finish projects, and let my 3d models come to life through my renders and animations
listen to more music - i already mentioned on my 12 tracks for 2023 post but i listen to music as a small way to engage with history. i started in 2022 and it's been a really fun journey listening to all this music and there's so much out there too.
gif more and possibly get into archiving? - ok i picked up gif making this year, i used to do them back in like... high school or whatever but then i just stopped. but then i realized this was a really good way of archiving. i'd like to actually scan things like scanning this yoshitaka amano artbook i have or even the f7d artbooks since that game is more than likely going to close this year...but i dont have a machine that scans and technically i could just take a silly picture off of my phone but idk i dont think it's the same. maybe one day but other wise i'll probably just stick with gif making
so basically it's just me keeping up with the stuff i've done recently or have been doing. unfortunately as of writing this i feel sad and maybe it's because i don't want this day to pass and for a new year to start but it will anyways whether i like it or not... le sigh...
anyways happy new years eve hope this new year will be better for everybody

I have watched so many video essays about mmo startups gone wrong, usually where there was crowdfunding involved, and not necessarily ending in a scam, but extremely incompetent management of time, money, and lack of experience of the team creating the game. Usually they push out something very lacking in anything to do + most promised features or basic things you would assume the game to have, never ending server errors etc and then they close within the first year
I know crowdfunding was not involved with the pripars game but this really has the same vibe. Synsophia is not as involved and it is in the hands of another company who has tanked previous projects. I’m glad you got in, but most people still can’t, the server errors are insane and if it is this bad after release, I cannot iamgine how bad those years of the private beta were!
I did always want to play it and still do, and will still try to keep up, but even before it came out I was questioning who would play this. I was surprised they thought pripara was worthy of an app, like super super excited but in this day? the age demo is so young but the gacha rates matching with games for older audiences is confusing. The amount of adults that play this because they already like Pripara is small enough, espescially to execs that just want money from gachas, the amount of adults that find this game and get into it randomly is even smaller. not enough kids can spend that much on this.
I feel like there is no heart in this either. Barely any new content and everything is mostly converted to work on a smartphone, but already existed before it, I don’t mind that there is most likely very little love put into this but it’s still a little sad.
My guess is they barely make back what they put into this and close in the next 1-2 years but I’ll enjoy it while it lasts
-
this is basically the same impression that I have :( if it was a well-made game with real money spent on it then it would have launched on time and wouldn’t be locking people out almost a week after the supposed launch date
if the idol land anime had happened on schedule and been airing regularly in time for the app to tie in with it I feel like they would have more success and more eyes on the app too. it’s a weird situation bc they can’t (and probably shouldn’t) go all in on it being for adult audiences bc it’s pripara. but at the same time I think idol land is for a slightly older demographic than the first series, even if it’s just kids who watched the first series and grew up a little. like amari’s in high school. but I dont know how you would lean in to high school setting/audience when you’re making a pripara app and you only have like three high school age characters to work with

on and off over the past 2 weeks ive been working on putting together a list of my favorite quotes/anecdotes from the 20 Years of Toontown panel because theres so many funny and memorable ones! ill split this post up into a few parts since theres lots of stuff
these quotes are from Jesse's story about the origins of Toontown Online and how it got started!
"one of the, you know, hard realities of the Walt Disney company is, if youre on a team that doesnt have anything to do, you might have a problem, you know, you may not have a job in a few months"
-
"right, the Hall of Presidents mmo, i dont even remember how that one worked"
-
"... he said 'no, you know the problem is, your team is, youre like a bunch of PANDAS, all youll eat is bamboo, and youre gonna DIE, because all you eat is bamboo. you need to be more like RATS, rats eat anything, so you need to be less like pandas and more like RATS, so you think about that'
and we're like 'okay we'll think about it' so it inspired us to make our new engine and call it the Panda3d engine. and of course we needed a file format for it so we called it 'bamboo', so you feed bamboo into the panda engine and thats what made it go"
-
"... and then once we got it to a certain point, we took it over to Feature Animation and said 'we need to get your buy-in, we're gonna do this Atlantis mmo'. and they were like 'ugh, we dont want you to be doing this. youre going to ruin our movie by making a game, its gonna make people think that this is for KIDS. we dont want games in this so no, youre FORBIDDEN, you cant make it'
and we're like 'oh, oh well, alright. well lets go find something that nobody really cares about' and we DID, it was Toontown Online"
-
"this picture is actually from one of the decks, what we did is we took this poster ... and we just put the 'online' part under it. and so talking about the inspirations for Toontown in the beginning, we were like 'Toontown Online, it makes a lotta sense, of course!'"
"when you look at this initial picture ... one of the things youll notice about the cog on the left is, that cog is not a cog, that is not a robot, thats just a person. and originally, the cogs werent cogs, they were just people, and we called them the suits, and that was the concept, the toons vs the suits
and that ended one day when we had a visit from, uh oh, Roy Disney Jr! come to the studio hes like 'hey remember that Toon Tag, that was pretty great, what are you doing now?' and we're like 'CHECK IT OUTTTT ITS TOONTOWNNNN, its all about the toons vs the suits', and all that. and hes kinda like 'huh, okay, interesting, i guess' and we're like 'okay, well that was a little weird' it wasnt the warmest meeting we ever had
and the next day, our Vice President comes in very PERTURBED, and says we have a memo here, from Roy Disney Jr who says 'this game can never ship. Toontown can never ship, because it is DISRESPECTFUL to the people who made this company great', and we all like smacked ourselves in the head and realized 'oh my god' ... and here we are with this game saying business people are the evil enemy. and so, our Vice President is like 'DEAL WITH THIS. youre going to have to do something, i dont know what youre going to do but do SOMETHING'
and we're like 'oh my god, well we cant, what are we going to do, we cant take them outta the game' ... we started brainstorming, what if its something else, what if its aliens are the enemy, thats corny, what if its robots are the enemy. we're like 'well, maybe robots' but we really want the work vs play thing and we're like 'what if its business robots... but we dont tell anybody that...'. so we wrote a letter back saying 'weve changed this' the game is different now, its going to be all about toons vs robots' and theyre like 'okay fine, whatever' and, well, we didnt tell them it was business robots!
and honestly, the game got better at this point, because we were never sure when you defeated a suit what was supposed to happen to them. Bruce Woodside had an original where when the suits got hit with too many pies, they would turn into clowns? and then shrink really small and run away? and it was like some weird dream? and it was like 'Bruce thats interesting but uh, thats probably not right'"

ive been promoting my rp rave for literally one day and across three different platforms i’ve already gotten flak from people who are physically incapable of shutting the fuck up about final fantasy. “should be in ffxiv :/” “ffxiv rave when? we literally have glowstick emotes” (so does WoW...) “[reinstalling wow?] consider what if no...[if you attend] you did this to yourself”
the rave isn’t in final fantasy because i dont fucking play that game. i dont give a shit about the world or the characters, i think the game looks like sparkly f2p moe garbage sculpted out of sour cream and lolicon, and my only knowledge of it comes from disgruntled ex-WoW players who burned themselves out on petty drama and endgame bullshit and are looking for a new flame.
i’m throwing a WoW rave. ive been working on it for weeks with the help of my very generous friends, and ive spent real life money and time to put it together. if you want a final fantasy rave, go throw one! but dont fucking shit on me for being excited about wanting to do something i love without people treating it like an opportunity to convert (or cull!) its players.
i have never seen the playerbase for any other mmo try to poach and denigrate another game’s players like this. not destiny, not guild wars, not swtor, not dark age of camelot, not everquest or runescape or wildstar or rose online or flyff or ragnarok or maplestory or any of these other MMOs, both paid and free to play, still existing or have come and gone. i dont know why the fuck there seems to be this one-sided bitter resentment toward WoW from FF players but i’m getting fucking sick of it. it seems like any time i’m in a venue that isnt explicitly dedicated to wow, its very mention is met with shrug emojis and rolling eyes and whatever from ff players who forcibly wedge themselves into the conversation to talk about how much better it is.
i know im just venting because i’m hurt by people shitting on my event for being WoW-themed, saying “ugh dont actually GO to the event, just do the stream, streaming is free” like it’s a fucking chore. if youre planning to attend begrudgingly, dont come. dont fucking bring that energy to a place where we’re supposed to be having fun and celebrating the stuff we love in earnest.
it’s a fucking gathering in a video game plus a livestream...it’s the most innocuous fucking thing and it’s being met with such malice. costs zero dollars to stay in your lane, etc. fuck’s sake

Is there the full list of brandersons favourite games reposted somewhere?
i dont think so? or not that ive seen. u can literally just sign up for the newsletter on his website but screw it ill just post them for u. it sure was a TRIP scrolling past these to get to the interlude though. undertale is on this list.....im shakign at the thought that adolin was based off ff10 tidus but i cant get it out of my head now
#10: Katamari Damaci
I love things that make me look at the world in a new way. Katamari did this in spades. It is an imaginative, bizarre vision with unique gameplay. It is like nothing else in the world and I love it for all its strangeness and occasional lack of gameplay polish.
I was transfixed the first time I played it, and have looked forward to it being remade and rereleased on multiple different consoles. I love the cute—and somehow creepy at the same time—storyline. It feels like a fever dream more than a game sometimes, and is probably the closest I’ll ever get to understanding what it’s like to do drugs.
#9: Undertale
This is an oddball on this list because I think it’s the only game that is not a franchise from a major studio—but is instead an indie game, which I believe was originally funded on Kickstarter.I loved how this felt like a novel as much as a game. It was one person’s vision; a single story told really well, with a huge amount of personality. The humor was just my kind of wonderful/terrible, and I was instantly enamored with the characters. That probably would have been enough, but it is a nice deconstruction of video games as a medium—and has not one, but multiple innovative gameplay mechanics. Together, the package left me enamored. This is a work of genius that I feel everyone should at least try, even if it ends up not being for them.
#8: Fallout: New Vegas
I have played all of the core Fallout games, and I was one of the (it seems few) who was really excited when it moved from turn-based tactics to first-person shooter. While Fallout 3 was good, it didn’t have the charm of the first two.New Vegas delivered on everything I was hoping to see. The charm was back, the writing sharp, the quests imaginative. The gameplay was engaging and branched in a variety of directions, the gunplay was solid, and the atmosphere immersive. I of course love the first two games in the series—but New Vegas combines everything I like in gaming into one package. (As a note, I own the Outer Worlds, and am looking forward to digging into it. Consider this item on the list a recommendation of other Obsidian games—like Knights of the Old Republic Two—regardless of genre, as I’ve found them universally to be superior to their contemporaries.)
#7 Super Mario World
When I was eleven, I flew (alone, which was very exciting to me) from Nebraska to visit my uncle Devon in Salt Lake City. Before I left, my father gave me $200 and told me to pay for my own meals while on the trip—but of course, my uncle didn’t allow this. At the end of the trip, I tried to give him the money, which he wouldn’t take.I mentioned my dad would take the money back when I got home, but that was okay. Well, my uncle would have none of that, and drove me to the local mall and made me spend it on a Nintendo Entertainment System. (This uncle, you might guess, is an awesome human being.)Since that day of first plugging it in and experiencing Mario for the first time, I was hooked. This is the only platformer on the list, as I don’t love those. But one makes an exception for Mario. There’s just so much polish, so much elegance to the control schemes, that even a guy who prefers an FPS or an RPG like me has to admit these are great games. I picked World as my favorite as it’s the one I’ve gone back to and played the most.
#7: The Curse of Monkey Island (Monkey Island 3)
I kind of miss the golden age of adventure gaming, and I don’t know that anyone ever got it as right as they did with this game. It is the pinnacle of the genre, in my opinion—no offense to Grim Fandango fans. This game came out right before gaming’s awkward teenage phase where everything moved to 3-d polygons. For a while after, games looked pretty bad, though they could do more because of the swap. But if you want to go see what life was like before that change, play Monkey Island 3. Composed of beautiful art pieces that look like cells from Disney movies, with streamlined controls (the genre had come a long way from “Get yon torch”) and fantastic voice acting, this game still plays really well. This is one of the few games I’ve been able to get my non-gamer wife to play through with me, and it worked really well as a co-op game with the two of us trying to talk through problems. It’s a lovingly crafted time capsule of a previous era of gaming, and if you missed it, it’s really worth trying all these years later. (The first and second games hold up surprisingly well too, as a note, particularly with the redone art that came out a decade or so ago.)Also, again, this one has my kind of humor.
#6: Breath of the Wild
I never thought a Zelda game would unseat A Link to the Past as my favorite Zelda, but Breath of the Wild managed it. It combined the magic of classic gameplay with modern design aesthetic, and I loved this game. There’s not a lot to say about it that others haven’t said before, but I particularly liked how it took the elements of the previous games in the series (giving you specific tools to beat specific challenges) and let you have them all at once. I like how the dungeons became little mini puzzles to beat, instead of (sometimes seemingly endless) slogs to get through. I liked the exploration, the fluidity of the controls, and the use of a non-linear narrative in flashbacks. It’s worth buying a Switch just to play this one and Mario—but in case you want, you can also play Dark Souls on Switch... (That’s foreshadowing.)
#5: Halo 2
Telling stories about Halo Two on stream is what made me think of writing this list.I’m sometimes surprised that this game isn’t talked about as much as I think it should be. Granted, the franchise is very popular—but people tend to love either Reach or games 1 or 3 more than two. Two, however, is the only one I ever wanted to replay—and I’ve done so three or four times at this point. (It’s also the only one I ever beat on Legendary.)It’s made me think on why I love this one, while so many others seem to just consider it one of many in a strong—but in many ways unexceptional—series of games. I think part of this is because I focus primarily on the single-player aspects of a game (which is why there aren’t any MMOs on this list.) Others prefer Halo games with more balanced/polished multiplayer. But I like to game by myself, and don’t really look for a multiplayer experience. (Though this is changing as I game with my sons more and more.)I really like good writing—which I suppose you’d expect. But in games, I specifically prefer writing that enhances the style of game I’m playing. Just dumping a bunch of story on me isn’t enough; it has to be suited to the gameplay and the feel of the game. In that context, I’ve rarely encountered writing as good as Halo 2. From the opening—with the intercutting and juxtaposition of the two narratives—to the quotes barked out by the marines, the writing in this game is great. It stands out starkly against other Halo games, to the point that I wonder what the difference is.Yes, Halo Two is a bombastic hero fantasy about a super soldier stomping aliens. But it has subtle, yet powerful worldbuilding sprinkled all through it—and the music...it does things with the story that I envy. It’s kind of cheating that games and films get to have powerful scores to help with mood. The guns in Two feel so much better than Halo One, and the vehicles drive far better. The only complaint I have is that it’s only half a story—as in, Halo 2 and 3 seem like they were one game broken in two pieces. And while 3 is good (and Reach does something different, which I approve of in general) neither did it for me the way Two did, and continues to do.
#3: Final Fantasy X
You probably knew Final Fantasy was coming. People often ask if the way these games handle magic was an influence upon me. All I can say is that I’ve played them since the first one, and so they’re bound to have had an influence. On one hand, these games are really strange. I mean, I don’t think we gamers stop quite often enough to note how downright bizarre this series gets. Final Fantasy doesn’t always make the most sense—but the games are always ambitious.Ten is my favorite for a couple of reasons. I felt like the worldbuilding was among the strongest, and I really connected with the characters. That’s strange, because this is one of the FF games without an angst-filled teen as the protagonist. Instead, it has a kind of stable happy-go-lucky jock as the protagonist. But that’s what I needed, right then. A game that didn’t give me the same old protagonist, but instead gave me someone new and showed me I could bond to them just as well. Ten was the first with full voice acting, and that jump added a lot for me. It has my favorite music of the series, and all together is what I consider the perfect final fantasy game. (Though admittedly, I find it more and more difficult to get into turn-based battle mechanics as I grow older.)
#2: Bloodborne
Those who follow my streams, or who read other interviews I’ve done, probably expected this series to be at or near the top. The question wasn’t whether Souls would be here, but which one to pick as my favorite.I went with Bloodborne, though it could have been any of them. (Even Dark Souls 2—which I really like, despite its reputation in the fandom.) I’ve been following FromSoftware’s games since the King’s Field games, and Demon’s Souls was a huge triumph—with the director Hidetaka Miyazaki deserving much of the praise for its design, and Dark Souls (which is really just a more polished version of Demon’s Souls). As I am a fan of cosmic horror, Bloodborne is probably my favorite overall. It really hit the mix of cosmic and gothic horror perfectly. It forced me to change up my gameplay from the other Souls games, and I loved the beautiful visuals.I am a fan of hard games—but I like hard games that are what I consider “fair.” (For example, I don’t love those impossible fan-made Mario levels, or many of the super-crazy “bullet hell”-style games.) Dark Souls is a different kind of hard. Difficult like a stern instructor, expecting you to learn—but giving you the tools to do so. It presents a challenge, rather than being hard just to be hard.If I have a problem with Final Fantasy, it’s that the games sometimes feel like the gameplay is an afterthought to telling the story. But in the Souls games, story and gameplay are intermixed in a way I’d never seen done before. You have to construct the story like an archeologist, using dialogue and lore from descriptions of in-game objects. I find this fascinating; the series tells stories in a way a book never could. I’m always glad when a game series can show off the specific strengths of the medium. In fact, this series would be #1 except for the little fact that I have way too much time on Steam logged playing...
#1: Civilization VI
This series had to take #1 by sheer weight of gameplay time. I discovered the first on a friend’s computer in the dorms my freshman year—and I can still remember the feeling of the birds chirping outside, realizing I’d been playing all night and really should get back to my own dorm room. That still happens, and has happened, with every game in the series. I have a lot of thoughts on this series, many of them granular and too specific for this list. (Like, it’s obvious AI technology isn’t up to the task of playing a game this complex—so could we instead get a roguelike set of modifiers, game modes, etc. to liven up the games, rather than just having a difficulty slider that changes a few simple aspects of the game?)I’ll try not to rant, because I really do love this game series. A lot of people consider IV to be the pinnacle of the series, but after V unstacked units—and VI unstacked cities—there was no way I could ever go back. If for some reason, you’ve never played this grand patriarch of the 4X game genre, it’s about starting with a single stone-age settler who can found a city—then playing through eras of a civilization, growing your empire, to try to eventually get offworld with a space program. (Or, if you prefer, conquering the world.)It’s a load of fun in the way I like to have fun, and I feel like the series has only gotten better over the years. My hat is off to the developers, who keep reinventing the series, rather than making the exact same game over and over. Now, about that request for difficulty modes...
there are runner ups but for the sake of anyone whos on mobile and cant get past a read more (first of all omg im SO sorry) ill refrain. anyway he thought WHAT loz game was the best before botw?
#mix between HARDCORE judgement and like. yea. yea ff10 was pretty good wasnt it#but i dont think its anywhere near the best of them#long post#im read mores dont work imm so fucking sorry this is so long#MOST of these games are good its just so wild its so wild its SO wild#asks#Anonymous

hguroahgouahrgo try infinite dendro im bEGGING
i keep seeing ppl be like "infinite dendro is just another sao" bc the anime came out and altho i havent watched the anime yet, since im on vol 3 rn, im like sobbing in my corner like no plz at least have the decency to compare it to log horizon or something. sao is like. dumb power fantasy. edgy loner wolf dude. log horizon was like. actual mmo stats and game mechanics! teamwork! guilds of mmo players and npcs working together! a real world where you can build things!!! log horizon is/was so gooooddd (;_;)
and like. infinite dendro's whole appeal is the ability to be a fantasy life where you can create things. and growth and stuff that's represented by your embryos. and like late spoilers but in log horizon they learned that to make actual good food you need to actually cook and not go thru the menu like you're just playing a video game. they worked their way up to making an actual working steamboat and then had this whole political arc w/ the npcs in a nearby country abt like. rights and economic trade and stuff. and like.
slight spoilers for volume 2 and 3, but in infinite dendro the country of dryfe is populated by artists and tradesmen players. like. ppl that are engineering students irl literally got together in guilds and made working mechas in the game. theres apparently a manga godframe grandmarshall that was made by a player in-game w/ a Painter/artist job skills. theres geopolitics that happen between the different countries and wars and histories and stuff. its a slower light novel than other mainstream vrmmo/isekai stories, but the world building is so good. arrrrrrghghghg
also im like so confused by comments (maybe not in tumblr specifically, but i’ve seen them on kitsu and twitter) that are like. "this game'll never work since players would just kill all the npcs and stuff bc npc permadeath" and im just like??? am i the only person to treat npcs in skyrim and stuff decently? geez whats wrong w/ you ppl? try? not killing?
sorry for the rando rant about this isekai video game anime lol but like srsly im so annoyed by ppl who judge an entire franchise by like 1 or 2 episodes of a show that's like. what. 12 or 15 episodes?? uuuuuuuuuuuuu YOU’VE ONLY SEEN LIKE WHAT. 30 MINUTES TO ABOUT AN HOUR OR SO OF THIS 11 NOVEL SERIES? THAT’S ON GOING??? HOW CAN YOU JUDGE IT SO EASILY, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT’S PRACTICALLY COMMON SENSE THAT BOOKS ARE BETTER THAN SCREEN ADAPTATIONS AND THERE’S A TON OF WORLD BUILDING AND EXPOSITION THAT BOOKS HAVE THE FREEDOM TO GO ON ABOUT IN SOME EXTRA PARAGRAPHS OR TWO THAT I’M SURE THAT ADAPTATIONS ALWAYS LEAVE OUT.
(whispers also high school me did actually read the sao light novels too when they were on like. baka tsuki in 2014. up to around half way thru alicization, years before the alicization arc’s novels were even officially in english. and like. they all revolved around how cool kirito was and like i dont really remember much about if they did do any world building, even in arcs where players could have even a fraction of the creative freedom that the log horizon/dendro games give their players, in like the first sao/aicrad arc. where you were supposed to have a real second life and stuff. and ppl got trapped there for 2 whole years. like. idk. liz's a swordsmith. asuna. has cooking skills?? meh not much else. it just went “let's not explore the game features or anything abt fun world building. instead have this emo loner high schooler. look at how cool he is.” bluhhh. at least ray's an average, well adjusted college dude who can work w/ others. shiroe's also a decent guy who's just really good at math and multitasking.
i think theres some sao side novels abt other players that were trapped in aincrad and like. that would be. so much more interesting. then kirito stuff. like. the whole orphanage for the kids who were playing sao and got trapped? average ppl who made livelihoods in 2 years like liz or agil who opened shops and just wanted to live their lives and stuff? like an anthology series abt players making. idk. therapy groups, publishing books to deal w/ their shit, and creative arts guilds, going abt their lives would be soooooo much more interesting to me world building-wise.
also, the geo-political stuff? afaik, it’s non existent in sao. maybe the closest that you can get is the uhhh. race wars? (yeah wow that’s actually really awful when you put it that way holy shit thanks sao abridged) that whole conflict in alo is maybe the closest you can get to fractions and guilds and stuff fighting.
but log horizon? elder tale has the HALF Gaia project, where the game is literally just a scaled down version of earth w/ post apocalyptic ruins of the “modern world” thats why the whole akihabara thing exists. then, it created an actual history of npcs and their countries and empires and spawned them around the world. and then, to add to the npc’s geo-politics, we also have the players’ geo-politics in terms of servers. the main cast is in akihabara. iirc, the light novel ended w/ the akihabara players in an alliance w/ the npc country/federation/city state thing the eastern league of free cities. they’re in some war against other players from minami city.
and then infinite dendrogram vol 3 comes in with this treat about geopolitics and world building that i’m sure that you would never see in sao:
(i’ve copy and pasted the text from the screenshots, and also some not from the screenshots for further context and put it on a seperate text post if you need it. click this -> https://flyingcookierambles.tumblr.com/post/190389803125/the-text-id-from-the-screenshots-if-you-need-it anyways this rant’s getting quite long so i’ll end it here)
but yeah. i’m sure that you would never see anything like this in sao, so seriously. please. IM BEGGING. GIVE INFINITE DENDROGRAM (the light novel at least) A TRY. IF YOU LIKE VRMMO/ISEKAI/FANTASY LIGHT NOVELS AND LOVE WORLD BUILDING, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON’T JUST BRUSH IT OFF AS “OH, JUST ANOTHER SAO” OR “IT’S REALLY BORING” BECAUSE I WILL CRAWL INTO A CORNER AND FUCKING CRY IF I HAVE TO SEE ANOTHER COMMENT ABOUT THE DENDRO ANIME BEING COMPARED TO SAO. I SWEAR THIS WILL JUST TURN OUT TO BE ANOTHER CASE OF “THE BOOKS ARE BETTER THAN THE MOVIE” AND PLEASE DONT LUMP ALL VRMMO ANIME/MANGA/WHATEVER TOGETHER. I AM BEGGING YOU. AT LEAST HAVE THE DECENCY TO SAY SOMETHING LIKE “OH JUST ANOTHER VRMMO TRYING TO BE LOG HORIZON/MAOYUU/[SOMETHING THAT IS BETTER THAN SAO]”
#gummytruck rambles#rant lol#books#a book review i guess#not really but ill put this tag here to lump it together w/ my other book stuff#infinite dendrogram#sao#log horizon#slightly salty#ok im actually really salty

i had things i wanted to do this break, 3 major things. that being; finish playground (it was gonna be some 3d art plaza style set in a theme park (thanks kippy for the idea)), work more on mesacomplex, and finish RRopenmic on rec room.
but I feel like shit because i didnt get to do either of the three. I felt like I started my spring break on a bad note, because I got to sleep over with my friends for 2 days straight, but these two friends i feel like im just growing more and more distant towards and really dont enjoy my time with them anymore. and I know how bad that sounds, but I just cant shake that feeling. what am I supposed to do though? I feel trapped in this relationship, some artificial friend group, because if im invited to go over to either of their houses or one of us has a birthday, i cant just tell my mom "actually i dont really like them anymore, I dont feel like going" so im just stuck.
after that, man, I dont even know. I just never got the motivation to open blender or github. I mean github is still open on a pinned tab, but I havent even as much as switched to it in over 4 days. I didnt even bother to pickup any of my music toys once throughout the entire two weeks. my korg volca drum is lying doormant on my desk, staring me down, while my pocket operator has been dead with the batteries out for the entirety of the break, unable to even guilt me as it sits on the shelf above my desk.
I opened rec room quite a few times, but every time I barely got any progress done on that open mic room. I dont know why, I just never did. I sat there, spinning around in my chair, waiting for motivation to hit while i stared at the miniscule ammount of work i had accomplished in the days prior. this is a fucking kids mmo, a literal roblox ripoff, that I wanted to spend my time on. I couldnt even do that correctly.
and now, I write this far too drawn out melodramatic tumblr post, for the eyes of nobody but myself, at 2:20 in the morning. I watched the minutes tick away, I have nobody to blame but myself. I wasted my time by not wasting my time in the way I wanted. I have to wake up in 5 hours, and put up with my day now being taken up by an additional 8 hours in which only 4 of which will likely ever wind up giving me any skill i will have to use at any point in my life. Even if I were to use all my free time in the way I wanted after I fall asleep tonight, I would literally only have half the time I had access to prior to that point.
I dont have any more to say, no happy note, so I think its time to end my rant.
goodnight.

Cube arts part 2
Blood and decapitation warning, this actually gets a bit dark.
Not a cube, but still beautiful
Phenomenal, show stopping, incredible
It decapatates the responsable friend. I still love it.
Im actually pretty suprised something 13+ has such a clear depiction of decapitation, given how that tends to get pretty heavily censored in japan.
Also the slimes on the cover are cubes, so i kinda wonder if its going to be a plot point that this slime is not cube. Like its a virus or something.
The time honored technique. Dig yourself a hole to escape.
If you die in the game you die for real!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I understand why a lot of game based isekai do this sort of thing, to have narrative stakes and stuff. But respawn mechanics can also be fun. Oh, the log out function is also not working.
Aww, thats actually pretty cute. They all end up at a village (that's more like an mmo town than a minecraft village) where they're at tower that people are supposed to respawn at. And they make a sign for their friend.
No one respawns when they're supposed to tho
Crumb Cuptoast cameo
I dont know, i might have a problem because this sounds like a dream come true to me. I guess it sucks that its seemingly on hardcore mode, but they dont know that for sure and some stuff has implied that people who die are maybe not all the way dead. I have this issue with lots of isekai stuff where i would just not be that mad about being there. This also has the extra bonus of not wasting much time in the real world. I would play for 6 hours anyways
They're actually playing in a tommyinnit modded minecraft video
You only get respawn mechanics after you already die and go to hell i guess.
Also this dude gets stabbed by the non-cube slime and pulled into the danger zone two pages later.

RAMBLING about ffxiv in comparison to gw2 under the cut. ive been thinking about this a lot in the past years already, comparing the two and their features. spoiler tl;dr: in my personal opinion gw2′s positive points heavily outweigh what ffxiv has to offer, but there’s a handful of things i wish that gw2 did similar to ffxiv.
this excludes both expansions for gw2 and ffxiv, since ive never played heavensward and stormblood and it would be unfair to compare gw2 with all its expansions to just the core game of ffxiv.
warning, there are highly subjective onions in this. oh boi here we go
Let’s start with the things that i like about FFXIV that I wish gw2 implemented in a similar way:
First of all, different transmuted gearsets that you can save and then switch to on demand. It’s just nice having different gear sets (not even necessarily with different stats imo, thats what legendary armour is for) and switch around. Probably interesting for roleplayers.
Beast Tribe crafting quests. This is probably the feature i’d want the most in gw2. It would have two big advantages: 1) Get to know other tribes better and in more detail. We could have Tengu, Skritt, Kodan, Quaggan, Hylek, Grawl, Jotun.. probably more. And an even more important side effect this would have in my opinion: It would make people actually use crafting professions. The crafting professions are highly underused (mainly because they’re honestly useless for 95% of content) and having daily tribe quests attached to them would at least make them less obsolete? The crafted items could be soul- or accountbound so that there wouldn’t be any way to just simply buy them off the trading post either. Then again, FFXIV overall has the more interesting approach to crafting and gathering so I’m not sure this would really work out in the same way. Nontheless, for sake of different tribe lore..pls anet, make it happen.
The second most important thing i want implemented in GW2: FISHING!!!!!
I also like the Hunting Log. GW2 sorta has a similar system in the achievements tab but I think FFXIV presents it in a nicer way.
All those emotes. FFXIV has so many and you can even use some while sitting or being on a mount etc.
...dodo. FFXIV just overall has the cuter minis, and there’s.. the dodo. Dodo is better than any other mini ever in any game.
The problem is.. that’s already kinda about it. And with exception of the whole tribe crafting thing and dodo it’s also like.. really minor stuff that doesn’t really affect gameplay.
Now things that I personally (!!!) prefer about GW2 that overall just make it the better game for me to play:
And that is... the core gameplay.
I know. It’s an MMO. MMOs are supposed to be played with other people. But I hate, absolutely despise, instanced group content. I come from a singelplayer RPG background (that sounds overly dramatic) and let’s be honest..... all content in GW2′s pve (excluding raids) can be solo’d. Story? Soloable. Dungeons? Soloable mostly. Fractals? At least low level fractals are soloable. Open world content? Soloable, apart from a few events like bigger world bosses. GW2 can be entirely played as a singleplayer game (which, again, I know is not necessarily the purpose of an MMO) and... i love that.........
Other things I prefer about GW2 in contrast to FFXIV:
More customization options during character creation.
Very subjective opinion but i find the player races a lot more visually appealing and diverse.
The wardrobe and dye system is INFINITELY superior, like i cant even imagine how anyone could justify anything else. But then again I guess that’s fashion wars 2′s speciality.
very personal taste but i also like the look of most armours and weapons better
No ‘end game’, everything feels equally accessible, and the level limit is set at 80 without having to upgrade to better armour constantly (in the same time i can also imagine that precisely this would be a negative point to many people and they like the constant upgrading)
A lot, lot, lot less grinding
Explorable underwater areas and underwater combat
Now MMOs arent really known for delivering the storytelling depth of a delicately crafted singleplayer RPG but overall GW2 has interesting lore and also some nice characters.. and i just cant get into neither ffxivs story nor lore at all. not blaming that on the game and i dont think any of the two games has “better” or “worse” storytelling but it’s just an experience ive made. i realized while playing that i absorb every single text box and piece of lore in gw2 like a sponge, and in ffxiv i just want to hit the skip button as fast as possible during every dialogue. Can’t really explain why either.
Being able to trade across several characters on your account.. i know ffxiv isnt really made to have several alts since you can play every class on a single character but i still find it annoying that i cannot trade any items at all to other characters on my own account
Much bigger maps with the whole vista and poi system that rewards you just for exploring maps, which is.. well thanks to having more open world content in constrast to instanced content
More customization and gear options while playing classes. I know blabla there’s always an optimal combination of gear and traits and skills that will be meta but... it’s just not necessary as long as you stay out of lvl 100 fractals and raids. Play a tank thief? Go ahead. Make a heal engineer? Noone stops you. It just doesn’t matter and you can find your own personal playstyle with a lot more different traits and skills. And no we didn’t fail chak gerent event because 1 person was in knight’s gear which made the boss scale too much. Yes i read that on the forum.
And also, while i don’t want to take this as an actual argument, but.. u have to consider that you buy GW2 once and then play forever, and every single “cash shop” (aka gemstore) item can be purchased with the ingame currency if you have enough time and patience for farming gold. There is no need to ever spend a single penny on anything. FFXIV.... has a monthly fee AND cash shop items that as far as i know can only be purchased with real money and.. while i know that this is the norm in other MMOs (I believe WoW has a similar system?) I just find that very questionable. I know it’s all optional so it doesn’t influence anything, but still I believe this is a point worth mentioning.
Now I’m not saying all of this to make FFXIV sound bad. As mentioned there are a bunch of things I like better in it, and after all I liked the game enough to actively play it for a year. FFXIV and GW2 are both good games, but thinking about it i just realize a lot of times why exactly i feel so much more at home in gw2 than i do in ffxiv.
#THIS IS LONG BE wARNED#it also sounds a lot more dramatic than its intended to be lol?? im just trying to make a list

with our request combine we left futaba and haru out... can you add they as well? dont need to Hurry, oh i'm Referring me about the blind s/o
I’m glad you guys enjoyed the first one, I’ll try my best to provide the same quality. I apologize if this took way too long to answer.
If anyone is interested in reading the first one, which includes S/O’s awakening as well, you can check it out here
Note: I went overboard with the Futaba headcanons, having two Navigators can drastically change a lot of things. there’s a lot of room for freedom and I genuinely enjoyed writing it down.
Futaba
She met S/O over the internet, with the help of S/O’s built in functionalities and the advanced technology, they were able to communicate on a reasonable level, and she discovered that they also live in Tokyo.
Although S/O always hid the fact that they were blind, and Futaba completely believed it. they were partners in some new MMO Rpg or an online multiplayer game, and they used to grind for EXP and Items together, even going as far as to cancel their plans for the ‘limited events’ that offered rare/legendary loot and a huge amount of money.
They slowly drifted off from playing online games to texting on the site, and eventually, they found themselves enjoying talking to each other more than playing a video game for loot; that doesn’t mean it wasn’t fun anymore, It’s just they grew a liking to each other.
Futaba spent months contemplating whether to confess or not, was she supposed to do this now? is everything going to be ruined? are they even okay with dating her, despite not being able to get out of her room that often? to her surprise, they confessed first.
What’s even more stressful than confessing, you ask? Meeting in person.
Although she was able to do it, she was astonished and bewildered upon discovering that her S/O was blind. Not because she had a problem with it, but because they were able to communicate and play normally. plus the fact that they’ve never told her; maybe because they were stressed out, or because they thought that their crush would ignore them just for that fact.
Seeing how strong they were, even though they were blind, caused Futaba to have a lot of determination in herself. whenever she looked at S/O and how smart, powerful and beautiful they are, she couldn’t help but feel her shell cracking a little as she gained an immense boost in confidence.
Futaba was more than happy to help them, she programmed specific apps and helped create even more functions by accessing their phone’s code. they were able to use the phone as any other normal human being, or even slightly better than any other human being.
Once they had their awakening, they were able to see Futaba for the first time. That long silky hair, the hair their hands enjoyed running through was finally visible to their eyes, or more specifically, to their Persona’s eyes.
Being a second navigator allowed the team to have a much more successful chance at winning, they were able to view the stats of two enemies. and what’s more than that, with the combined powers of Futaba and S/O, they were able to reveal an enemy’s weaknesses/strengths immediately.
They also, surprisingly, had damaging abilities. they were able to damage the enemies together by sending a mental shockwave, causing the shadow to have a disruption in their mind as they lose their true form temporarily. this can also cause the shadow to go crazy and eventually evaporate, never to find a body again.
Once their bond was strong enough, they shared the ultimate skill which was called “Mind is matter, matter is mind.”. the ultimate mind/matter technique. Scanners links shadows minds together and convertstheir matter to mental energy, then dissipates them to the surrounding environment
Haru:
Haru and S/O met each other during the gardening assignment that was handed out by their professor.
They weren’t supposed to interact with each other that much but, seeing as how S/O was blind, the professor made an exception and made Haru in charge. since she had the most expertise out of everyone.
Helping them pick the right tools and the using the correct soil, how to plant the seeds and what to do during certain days were interesting topics to S/O, who never tried gardening during their entire life. the more they inquired the more Haru fell for them, they were asking her questions even she never thought about, and she was surprised by how smart and observant they are.
Eventually, when the assignment was over, both Haru and S/O got full marks on it. however that wasn’t enough to keep Haru happy, she had thought this was the last time they could interact on a meaningful level.
That is until she built her own little garden on the rooftop, she was surprised by S/O visiting her one day and offering help, to which she blushed slightly. she didn’t completely understand what she was feeling and, since she was already engaged, she couldn’t help but wonder if this is what true love feels like.
She remained completely silent, S/O was aware of Haru’s situation with Okumura foods and they were saddened by the shocking news.
Once they discovered Sugimura, and how he is treating Haru, they couldn’t help but feel protective and slightly possessive. despite still being friends; it felt like they were much more than that.
After eventually standing up against Sugimura and canceling the marriage, she felt completely at peace, with an admirable person by her side.
She enjoys their extravagant use of words when describing the taste of her coffee, their other senses were much stronger than she expected.
Despite S/O being blind, she’ll still use words like “Look” and “See” as naturally as she does with anyone else, she doesn’t want them to feel awkward or even hurt because she’s avoiding the usage of these words, although it may seem like a minor thing, she realizes it could hurt them a lot.
After the awakening, Haru and S/O had shared a strong bond throughout their journey. causing their Personas to connect together much faster.
S/O discovers the slightly sadistic nature of Haru in the metaverse, however, they are fascinated by it more than anything else. and for some reason, this sadistic nature has become more visible ever since S/O joined the Phantom Thieves.
Akechi:
Working as a receptionist for the police department was quite a strange job, not everyone is to be trusted with the police’s files, and not everyone can handle this job, however, S/O earned the title.
Even though they already knew who Goro Akechi was, they didn’t bother him too much. S/O didn’t deny that they were a fan, however, they limited their interaction and had their focus on their job.
All of these signs fascinated Akechi, not only were they blind but they were more efficient than any of the other receptionist and they didn’t bug him as much, despite being the biggest fan of them all.
This pushed Akechi into getting to know them more, he just couldn’t help the feeling he felt deep down inside, was he intrigued? was he fascinated and entertained? was he charmed or perhaps captivated? or is it a mix of all? nobody knew the answer at the time. This lowered his overall quality of work, he couldn’t stop thinking about them.
After successfully getting to know them and taking them to a few dates, he realized how modest, nice and kind they are. they were perfect, he was their eyes and they were his everything.
He’ll have a specific way of talking with them, that still feels just as natural. he doesn’t underestimate them, but he feels worried about them and feels the need to protect and guide them wherever they go.
He realizes they are at a disadvantage, having such low vision causes them to miss out on a lot of the things that are happening at this very moment. which is why he’ll always talk about being “In the moment” and describing their surroundings in a very carefully worded manner.
He would be impressed by the fact that they were able to awaken, and all on their own, realizing how much he underestimated them.
Their independence and magnificent capabilities were more than useful to him and the others in battle, and he couldn’t keep focusing on the battle with how much style they had.
He couldn’t deny it, He was worried about them, and he’ll always worry about them. But that’s just him being slightly over-protective. however, Akechi’s good at maintaining his emotions and controlling himself. resulting in S/O being completely oblivious to his territorial behavior.

also MANNNN i hope they add some sort of inhuman or at least monsterously human race to this game someday it was so infinately dissappointing when they just added Elves 2: With Some Token Dragon Traits And Less Equal Fanservice
and seriously it makes NO SENSE cos like.. they make entirely separate models for all the races anyway??? even when you have the same height settings everyone still has mildly different (but 90% equally skinny) body builds depending on race (unless you pick a girl, where its just pose instead). Like yo it wouldnt be more effort to make a more different class, when you already put unnecessary effort into your sames! And all the outfits in the game all have mildly different designs for each race, even the ones that have the same body build have different like.. aesthetics? And I mean we have two races that’re a really big difference, even if its also The Laziest One of making Big Human and Smol Human. I still love the lalafell the most tho cos they have actually different faces and a bunch of cute animations and like.. for once the lil kid species isnt sexualized. They’re a very nice design, even if they’re still just Person With One Trait Changed, lol! theyre at least drawn in their own unique art style.
But MANNN wouldnt it be cool if we could have Qus or Namingways or Bangaa or Yukes or any of the popular or unpopular classic strange fantasy peoples of games past? I mean the Yukes are even kinda designed precisely for MMOing! half of their games had them available as a semi-customizeable mute protag, and even the npc ones got to show loads of variety of helmets/wings/horns and even worldbuilding on why tf they always keep their face covered in the first place. (I prefer the ‘actually haunted suits of armour’ interpretation, personally!) And I mean it was kinda nonsensical that male ones have bat style wings and females have angel style ones, its weird how that’s actually a thing I’ve seen multiple times in different MMOs when its so.. nonsense?? But at least its a form of gender dimorphism idea that’s actually something unique to a fantasy world, instead of just ‘yknow human gender talls? they have that but More.’ female bodybuilders physically do not exist biologically, and also we chop their legs off if they grow above five foot! tho srsly tho i can at least understand the theory behind ‘All Women Are Born Supermodels And All Men Are Born Goku’, like that’s actually related to stereotypical beauty standards. but why also specifically he has to be twice her height? ‘hey yknow what turns me on- the negligable barely noticeable height difference in males’. what if like one foot was like ten foot, wouldnt that be somehow more manly i suppose. Must Exaggerate All The Gends, No Matter How Pointless!
...also srsly it weirds me out that people picking on short men and tall women has somehow become more of a thing since i was a kid. like it was friggin playground bullying and now we’re getting ‘dont marry a husband shorter than you, it will somehow Foretend Doom’ in fashion mags?? tho i still roll my eyes a lot at those PUA/men going their own way/involuntarily celibate/whatever the word is now rape culture guys being all ‘i was bullied for being short once by another man, this totally means that society is unfairly female dominated and also the only reason women dont want me is because my height/cheekbones/eye width matrix/star wars fandom rather than because I Was Being A Jerk’ srsly so often it isnt even a story of women being jerks that motivates them?? ‘a woman cashier smiled politely yet this wasnt a magic signal she wanted to bone me’, ‘i held a door open for a woman and she.. walked through it!! instead of congratulating me, dropping all her busy work for the day, and dating me right there!’ ‘a man said i was gay once so somehow the gays and women are bad’ ...wow how did this post go so offtopic lol. O guess just maybe my brain was all ‘what are some bad players u met in mmos once’ and then ‘o yeah’. But lol ain’t like square enix can do much to fix that, there arent very many games with a good anti-harassment enforcement policy nowadays since the userbase has gotten so big and unweildy..

-yes cinematics that used a protagonist to depict the personal stuggles that would be awkward to explore in game. Last i checked anduin, rohkhan and others were there to. But that part pf the story was about his death , so yea there was big focus on a major character leaving the story just like how there was major focus on anduin in legion. But they didnt decide to start doing tie in cinematics till this expansion so u cant really compare it to anything
-he didnt plan or suggest the war. It was sylvannas (you know, the elf) eho manipulated the horde intobdoing this and then killed teldrassil and its ppl herself. Also A Good War entire narrative point was saurfangs tragic mistake of him wanting a Good death and let himself blind himself to the idea that sylvannas was being duplicitous
- the fuck? Like 3 of thos cinematics u mention involve him taking blame and talking about how the horde will always be like this. Its anduin and zappyboy who remind him that the horde is good and its thebppl manipulating them with fear and prejudice that have lead to stuff like this
- like...wanting to die is a reward? Hes old hes tired and hes struggled to deal with his own sins and stop the hirde from committing more. I wouldnt call ' sacrificing your life so others dont have to die' a gift.
- 0 cinematics. Yea i guess if u ignore the two warbringers, the two cinematics previewing and in darkshore and the short story. What kinda childish bullshit. Like i said the cinematics were to show emotional interpersonal and personal scenes whos impact are best told through that medium. Thats how the writers who wrote this story chose to write it. Its THEIR story and there is only so much spotlight and they chose to use em to tell one story. I didnt like that there wasnt enough focus on finn in star wars, but it was THEIR story to tell
- they got darkshore back and killed a bunch of forsaken and horde. Thats what we call revenge.
- first of all its an mmo . Not a fucking movie. Every patch needs a different focus. Cus its a GAME and it cant get boring. It happens every expansion. We went to ulduar instead of icecrown. Its not a big deal. Second of all TONS of story happened after 8.1 it just jasnt come out yet. There is more in 8.3 and in 9.0. Its almost like its a professional writing team that makes overarching stories that can last more than one expansion
-where the fuck is this even coming from? No one said the elves forgive the horde or got their revenge. A dev did say there wont be more elf story in rise of azsharah because the story is focusing on azsharah for this patch and thats been their revenge "FOR NOW" get your head out of your ass and realize again this isnt a book its an mmo and they arent going to introduce a story and resolve it completely in 2 patches
- yea so what? Everyone who died in the last few years is there too? I dont see the problem? Thats a plot point and we are going to save them? Do u even know what a sotry is. Let me break ot down. There is a problem and then that problem is solved.
-how is your race getting killed suppose to have positive moments? But ill bite. The dark moon cinematic was badass and the story in 9.0 is pretty positive in bet. But i forgot. Every wow critic is a dumbass who doesnt know how a story works.
And finally
THE WHOLE STORY IS FOR U. THE ENTIRE GAME ITS OK TO HAVE PARTS U PREFER. BUT THE FORSAKEN STORY IS FOR PPL WHO LIKE DWARVES. THE TAUREN STORY FOR PPL WHO LIKE TROLLS. THE WORGEN STORY FOR PPL WHO LIKE ORCS. IF YOU CHOOSE TO HYPERFIXATE ON ONLY A FRACTION OF THE STORY CUS THATS ALL YOU LIKE THEN FINE. BUT DONT BLAME THE DEVS OR WRITERS CUS U PAYED FOR MULTIPLE STORIES AND REFUSE TO RESD MOST OF THEM. WHEN I READ HARRY POTTER I DIDNT SKIP THE PARTS NOT FROM HIS POINT OF VIEW. SO WHY WOULD I MAKE A CHOICE TO GINORE MOST OF THE GAMES STORY?
Posted by u/rod9910 on Reddit.
I couldn’t agree more, Night Elves got screwed over hard this expansion. The fact that the majority of the writers have a massive boner for the Horde is undeniable at this point.

ksutrash replied to your post “So like… you’re gonna put idols in the show, but then not even show...”
So produce 101 is made for koreans? Also didnt you hear every trainee say "oh thats so unfair they already start with a fanbase" and if you were to include international fans it would make it even more unfair. Another point is that i-fans dont really know them and heavily depend on translations by independent people so if we were allowed to vote it would be most likely very superficial and probably based on looks
@ksutrash I wasn’t sure how to answer that because I honestly don’t understand what your point it. Except for Nu’est and Samuel, the rest of the idols in the show aren’t very popular in general, and really not popular in Korea. In my post I was talking SPECIFICALLY about Yul and Sancheong (Kim Chanyul and Choi Hadon) from JJCC. I’ve been in the fandom since their debut, and It’s very small in general, they don’t really have that many fans to begin with, but the ones they do have aren’t Koreans. Because I feel like Jackie Chan might be more popular internationally than in Korea, or Koreans don’t really see him as a kpop producer (which he’s generally not), so most of the fans such as myself that got to know them because they’re his group are probably i-fans. If they let non-Koreans vote, it wouldn’t give them an extreme advantage, unlike Nu’est who already have the biggest advantage because they do have quite a big fanbase. I don’t want to get into the whole Nu’est discussion because that wasn’t my point, I was talking only about JJCC.
And you’re saying that i-fans don’t know the trainees and would only vote based on looks - but the Korean fans don’t know them either ????? like, they didn’t get any info that we didn’t get. I’ve watched most of the videos that mnet posted previous to the show (the into vids, staring contest, maringue time and what’s in the box), that’s the content there is and they don’t know anything more than we do. Their votes are based on the exact same things as our votes would have been. And if mnet really wanted to make sure everyone voted based 100% on talents, and not based on biased opinions or looks or whatever, they would have aired all of the performances and not cut off like half of them - thinking about it there are many groups that they didn’t show, not to mention all the single and duos who came on the show. they didn’t show the mmo boys last week or the rbw this week, and they’re like 4/5 guys in each team. i think there was another company with a few guys that they didn’t show. How are we supposed to vote based on their talents, if they don’t SHOW us their talents? That’s my point. That’s why I got so upset about cutting off jjcc or anyone else. I was genuinely curious to see the mmo boys and the rbw boys because I thought they would have had a great performance (and I think the mmo boys did because they got quite good rankings) but they just didn’t show them. Even all the ones who got an F last week, they didn’t even show their performances so I can’t judge how they were - and one of my favorite guys on the show was one of them (Lee Seokyu), so idk I’m still going to support him because I like his personality from what I’ve seen (and yes, because I think he’s cute. If you think looks don’t come into play in kpop then idk what to tell you, because it does), because I don’t know how talented or untalented he is.
I only watched the first season quite recently, and the thing that annoyed me the most was that they didn’t show a lot of the girls who were genuinely talented. Even in the last mission, there were girls who I thought were amazing and I just couldn’t remember their names because mnet never showed them. TBH, even some of the girls who actually got into ioi were almost never shown in the actual show, like... I personally know Yeonjung from wjsn (and she’s the reason I watched this show) and they only showed her singing but nothing more, I know how she acts around wjsn and she’s so bright and fun and cute and they didn’t show that side of her in the show at at all. Also Chaeyeon and Doyeon - honestly I still have no idea who they are. I know Chaeyeon because everyone was talking about her after ioi debuted and she was in m&d’s mv (Heechul is my ultimate bias so I notice the people he likes lol) and Doyeon because she’s very pretty so she caught my eye a lot, but I have no idea who they are as people??? But then, they showed Sohye like... most of the time, and even though she wasn’t very talented she got up the ranks so much she ended up in the group. I’m not saying she didn’t deserve it, because I like her as a person and I think it’s very admirable how much she poured herself into practice and improved a lot even within the show, but let’s be real - if mnet didn’t show her so much, she wouldn’t have gotten so popular and people wouldn’t have voted for her so much. That’s how this show WORKS - votes. If you’re popular, if you’re cute, if you’re so talented you catch the eye of the public (like Yeonjung for example), you get votes. If you’re not even shown on the show, who would vote for you?
And that’s what upsets me. By not showing Yul and Sancheong, they’re dooming them to not ever get votes. They’re both in quite a low place atm (yul is 90 and sancheong 86 in the last ranking I think), and idk if opening the votes to international fans would have given them much advantage, because the fandom still isn’t very big, but maybe if mnet bothered to actually show them on screen for more than 3 seconds, if they actually showed their performance and let them talk about their experience as idols like they did with Nu’est, maybe they would have had a chance.
It’s extremely frustrating because I didn’t want them to go on this show in the first place, I’ve been waiting for a JJCC comeback for about a year now, and the fact they went on this show instead, and it wouldn’t even help them... When I complained about it before the show started people were like “oh but it will make jjcc more popular!”, but so far it hasn’t. Neither of them are doing well on the rankings so far, because no one knows them. I don’t think the other idols other than Nu’est and Samuel are having that advantage, especially since they don’t let international fans to vote.

you’ll have tonnes of fun not being able to play the game cause none of your friends are online :)
#its the reason i uninstalled destiny#my entire friend group lost interest in the game :)#so therefore i couldnt play it any more#i suppose its not big deal for people with 50 million friends that can play whenever you want#or if you dont mind playing with random dickheads#but yeah i am incredibly salty about the whole MMO-lite thing#they need to fix how it works or its gonna flop eventually
