Even so, you’re going to be like “oh really?” Or another example, supposing you were on a date with someone who you knew a lot about because of your top notch research skills, you will continue acting like you know nothing about them, asking them basic first date questions. You’re going to be someone very passionate and fun loving, causing you to talk a lot or/and loudly when you’re excited, and comfortable causing you to be perceived as almost dumb by some people or too busy living in the moment, pursuing goals, living life and having fun to keep a mental note of things but you’re going to be someone who will keep things in your mind even if others think that you’ve missed their words or the details of things completely. It’s almost as if even your perceived innocence and dumbness is a calculated strategy. I think it comes or will come naturally to you but it’s going to be as effective as carefully woven and well thought out strategies. They might assume that you’re a bit more naive and might think that you’re not keeping a mental note of things but they’ll be so wrong. Once they get into a relationship with you, they’ll learn that you’re the most sharp person who memorises every little detail and thinks them through. The closer that they grow to you, the more that they’ll realise that you’re not as dumb as others consider you to be. In fact, you’re quite the opposite, you remember every little thing, connect the dots and overanalyse the situation if required. They’ll be highly attracted to you physically and energetically right away. It will simply just be a primal attraction. I don’t think that I can put it into words and even need to. They’ll just be attracted to you in a way that is undeniable, exciting and comes naturally to them. So this might be a bit of a dumb question, but I thought I’d ask you because I agree with most of your takes and because you studied fashion.

I graduate this fall, and I don’t know what I’m going to wear to the ceremony. Our school has these green robes so I wanted to wear something to go with them. A lot of the graduates wear white dresses, but I’m not sure I want to because some of them don’t feel formal enough for the occasion. I’ve struggled a lot in my college career, so I wanted to pick something celebratory. I’m just not sure where to start to find something that I like and that will suit me.

I’d also like to get something from a small business, if possible. I’ve visited a few department stores in search of formalwear and I’ve found that 1) things don’t fit me because I’m 4'10'' and 120 lb and 2) I generally don’t like the way they look. I’ve considered Etsy because my roommate who just graduated got a skirt from a seller that looked really nice, but I keep running into the problem of not knowing what I want.

If this is weird, please ignore and I’m really sorry. I just feel a bit lost. Thank you for your time!

I think a big factor would be how formal you’re planning to go- are we talking ball gown, black tie event, expensive restaurant, Sunday at church…?

Not knowing your build but going off your description, you’re lucky in that pretty much anything you wear is more likely to be too big than too small, and it’s much easier to cinch or belt or bring in the hem of a garment than it is to let it out. Being petite, you can rely a lot on accessories to bring your look together, and accessories can go a long way in elevating an otherwise plain look.

White dress is a cute idea, though I may aim for off-white just to avoid looking bridal unless it’s a uniform event or a school colours thing. A warm eggshell or cream looks good on most people.

If you’re going to be wearing a robe though, I wouldn’t worry too much about the dress- not unless you want fancy cuffs or collar or hem visible. In which case, a nice blouse with a belted maxi or midi skirt could be a good idea, if a little old-fashioned.

As for specific retailers, I fully encourage Etsy stores with good reviews, though I would add a note to your order if something is urgent or has specific measurements or requirements or alterations. And some styles are safer than others when it comes to sizing- being broad-shouldered myself, I always gravitate to wrap dresses or wrap tops, just ‘cause they enhance a curvy figure while still having plenty of room for error in sizing.

I know this didn’t really help with specifics, but maybe hopefully gave you some ideas…?

UPDATE:

When I say “wrap dress”, I mean something like these- Conservative enough to be professional, but light and breezy enough for a long summer ceremony. Ideally in a light cotton or linen blend, and something you can reuse for other events over and over in the future (the second is a bit bright for me but that’s close to the hem I mean- though I personally prefer the first.) Being petite and slim, you’re double lucky in that you could probably pull off an empire waist too if you like for that floaty, ethereal look- busty people like me often just end up looking pregnant.

As for blouses, these are great and can be super crazy, depending on how far you wanna go

You’ll be depending on the collar and sleeves to do most of the legwork here, so you can have a lot of fun with them. The skirt though should be at least lower calf-length to balance the whole thing out.

Thinking like

Cute, retro, somewhat formal, and you can keep wearing the pieces instead of a big gown that ends up in the back of a closet forever. (I’ve lived a broke life, vintage styles like this are fantastic for the longevity and penny-pinching that I look for)

But with robes on, the biggest parts of your outfit will be neckline and hemline, so whatever you end up going with, focus there.

Also, shoes go in and out of style constantly, and it’s going to be a LONG fucking day, so if you want to wear heels I’d go with a closed-toe almond fit with a low heel, ideally on the thicker side, and in black, or at least some other neutral colour to avoid taking up attention. Unless you can get the exact shade of green as your school colours, in which case that would be pretty neat too, but black may be your best bet.

If there’s any inspo images you have on hand or particular styles you feel suit you personally, I could find something more suited to your tastes, but these are basically my go-tos.

Traditional timeless and comfy, and either long-lasting or functional enough to be worn over and over again, dressed up or down to the occasion.

✨Diligence Headcanons pt2!✨ ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

Just writing a few more that I came up with! mostly has a lot to do with their life as a human.

They had a habit of putting high expectations on themselves when they were a human (Still has them currently!)

The type of music they listen to is prolly... classical music. And some opra too. I can see them listening to some while they take a short break.

They can't sleep. Even if they wanted to, I don't think the Virtues are alloud.. They can take something similar to a nap but it's not exactly the same.

They weren't socially active as a human, they just worked hard on their job. They were praised, and respected as a result.

Even though they won't admit it, they ADORE praises. I think it's due to the fact that their a tad bit egotistical lol.

They would do anything to reach their goal as a human, even if it meant distencing themselves from their loved ones.

Seceretly envious of others who has a family or friend. But! they also have a little respect to them as well. They were distant from their family as a human.. but, they didn't hate them either!

Their brains are REALLY sensitive! So, everytime someone is waaayyy too close they'll make sure It. Won't Happen. Again.

When they were a human, they were considered boring 'cause of how much they dedicated themselves to their job. I kinda based their human life off of songs such as: Are You Satisfied?, Oh No!, Top Of My School, I am not a Robot, Teen Idle.

As a human, they shut out most of their family, people who could've been friends, and so on. They thought that they would lose themselves if they let lose, even just a little bit, so they ended up isolating themselves as a result.. after becoming a Rotling, they regretted every single decision they made, wishing that they chose a different path then the ones they took.

Diligence might not show kindness towards others, but he does have respect to those who knows their place. And wouldn't dare speak up unless necessary.

They also care for their angel bird, Sedu. Sedu is short for Sedulous, that's a synonym to Diligent.

Now.. I thought A LOT about this but, their sexuality is.. either Omni or Pan. Omni isn't really MY hc, it's someone else's!

Mud was one, if not their personal favorite soldier of theirs, so it obviously pissed them off when they realized that their favorite left what was to them, Heaven.

They play favorites on their soldiers. Dili obvi has their favorites.

Diligence polishes themselves often, they do care about their appearences sm that, everytime you see them, they're metal plates seem shinier than before!✨✨

They gloat about themselves when they get the chance, and will expect you to listen.

They don't show it but, they hate it when someone reminds them that they were a Rotling, Diligence hates their former self sm that they will shut anyone up for bringing back that godawful memory.

Annnnnnnd I'll end it here!

I have school on Wednsday so, this'll prolly be my last post. I hope some of you guys liked these new hcs that I came up with! for our sexy Ahem! I-I mean, interesting character Diligence!

Thoughts on The Ex-Morning's official trailer

I can't believe the trailer was already uploaded. I have been watching it on loop all day. Had to dump a bunch of my initial reactions to the trailer here. Minor warning for brief mentions of novel plot points and assumptions from the leaked original synopsis!

Is it just me who finds it supremely hilarious that Pathapi did what would get him mega-canceled while dressed as a Teru Teru Bouzu, directly following him looking adorable as hell with an umbrella and rainboots?

Also seems to confirm that there was some weather reporting most likely going on, which is very interesting considering that the Thai name of the series seems to compare the changing tone of the ex (Tamtawan) to easily changing weather.

A notable change from the original pilot trailer to the official trailer is that Pathapi throws coffee over Tae (Aou’s character) while accusing him of spreading fake news, rather than the original accusation of trying to interrupt him. I think this, followed by Tae seeming more antagonistic in his character immediately, gives ground to the idea that while Pathapi obviously shouldn’t have thrown coffee over Tae, there is a justified cause for his anger. Perhaps Tae was riling Pathapi up on purpose? Did he spread fake news?

Also, if Tamtawan really was in Australia, that greatly amuses me. I want to know what he was doing there.

This trailer also immediately throws us into the inciting incident of the story, rather than spending the intro hyping up Pathapi’s popularity as a top reporter. Perhaps it is simply because of the different purposes of a pilot versus official trailer, but I feel as if it gives a different immediate tone by having it happen two seconds in.

Following his cancellation, I find the scene of Pathapi running away from angry people both amusing enough (in its framing within the trailer) and quite sad. The latter reaction is tied both to real life – with the meta aspect – it’s clear that Pathapi’s experience will reflect Krist’s own, and while I don’t plan to spend too much time talking about it here, because this is a post on The Ex-Morning’s trailer and not the cruelty of people online, this is a very heavy and important topic. Especially knowing that this hate still exists.

Krist was greatly hurt by the unwarranted hate, and Pathapi’s character in the synopsis (and novel, if accounts I’ve seen are all accurate) struggles with the anxiety and panic attacks that Krist himself has experience with. It isn’t brought up in the trailer much, but I assume that the series will explore this topic in greater depth. Krist is extremely talented at drawing from his own experiences and in portraying anxiety, so I expect it to be stellar.

I love the sound effects as Tamtawan enters through the door and we’re shown their memories – the wind chimes, the clock noises – and then it ends with Tamtawan saying that their working together should be fun. It sets a perfect tone for the rest of the trailer.

Now, to think more deeply about the flashbacks. With previously posted BTS photographs, it seems like Pathapi and Tamtawan might have met as freshmen exchanging signatures? It reminds me of SOTUS, and also Be My Favorite. Throughout the trailer, and I assume, the show, there’s so many events that make you think back to the past works and lives of Krist and Singto.

The sunflower is confirmed to be given from Pathapi to Tamtawan! Seeing as Pathapi’s name translates to something akin to ground, soil, etc (correct me if I’m misrepresenting anything in Thai meanings, by the way, as I’m just going off what I’ve heard) and Tamtawan means following the sun, this flower feels like a connection for the two of them.

Sunflowers, which look toward the sun, and are rooted within the soil… and seeing as Tamtawan seems to still have the sunflowers that Pathapi gave him, dried and at his home, judging from other BTS footage, the sunflower seems to be very central to their relationship.

The argument interests me greatly. It has a different style from the pilot trailer, because we see presumably university age Pathapi and Tamtawan seem to argue. Within the pilot, we see the moment when Tamtawan left Pathapi, but rather than feeling like a full argument, it’s Tamtawan leaving. In this scene from the official trailer, however, it seems like more of an actual argument. Is this the break up scene? Or is it a fight that preceded it? I guess we’ll know soon.

On another note: I’m amused by Tamtawan’s smiles. What is this man hiding behind them? I understand that he is deeply devotedly in love with Pathapi, but what specifically he’s hiding still remains vague, even though I’ve been theorizing on him leaving to protect Pathapi. I can't wait to see more in the series!

(I need to know what is going on in Tamtawan’s head badly and think about it every day.)

Pathapi’s energy is also perfect – I love this stubborn loverboy. A man who got hurt and seems to have never fully gotten over it. His middle finger as he drives away is amazing, and I absolutely adore his outfits. He’s so cool! And Tamtawan just smiling as Pathapi drives away after giving him the finger. He’s as fond as me. And the rest of us. Understandably.

Afterwards, we return to Pathapi’s public perception, and the trailer blasts past it. But I’d like to think a bit more about how this could play out within the series proper. I imagine there would be a balance between comedy in these interactions, as well as Pathapi’s inner turmoil because of it. Will we get some deliciously tense hurt/comfort, with Pathapi still reluctant to open his heart back up to Tamtawan, but gaining a sense of comfort thanks to him?

Also, I must point out Sosay. Our lord and savior meow meow. I believe he’s an important main cast member, and the cat portraying him should have been in the press tour, actually (or not, because maybe she wants to lounge around, which is our queen's right). Also it's very fitting for our cat lover couple to have Sosay in this series.

Anyhow, I love the bickering between Pathapi and Tamtawan about their work so much. The tension between exes who need to work together is amazing, because it isn’t just ideas about work, it’s also a matter of their pride. And I think the two of them coming to work together well will be a perfect conflict for the first half of the series. The other cast members, also, can make even more for the two of them to navigate. I love workplace BLs! I love workplace BLs! I love workplace BLs!

And pink milk!!!! This one is just making me giddy.

Then we get our first moment of real romantic tension between our leads!!! Also Top Krist. Which is very, very important. I can’t stop staring at Pathapi’s hand in Tamtawan’s hair and Tamtawan’s curled up left hand. Oh my.

With Tae being described as a weather reporter, again, I think it’s reasonable to assume that Pathapi also had that position, but that in the series he will work with Tamtawan on a different show!

Also, I can’t stop thinking about when @justablfan mentioned once that the name of the show Good Day in the series reminds her of Good Old Days, one of Krist’s previous dramas with GMMTV. Which is very possible and excites me with the potential for even more callbacks!

I love Tamtawan’s I’m Tee Me Too house, by the way. Perfect choice and I love the way it’s been decorated so, so much. And of course, I love Pathapi very obviously staring as Tamtawan walks around shirtless, ahaha.

The lion and turtle costumes are perfect, and I adore the reference to Krist and Singto’s branding, as always. I am also deeply curious why Tamtawan is also on a show, and how exactly this hug comes to be, but I am more kyaaa-ing about how adorable it is, especially with Godji’s (I think her character name is Rita?) comments about their unbreakable bond.

Following that up is a very different coal scene from the pilot trailer, with Pathapi questioning if old coal can be reignited, rather than the original “it’s easier to light a fire with already burning coal.” This is really interesting to me, and I wonder if Pathapi will change his tune to say the stand-out line from the pilot trailer, if perhaps Tamtawan would say it this time, or whatever else. Anyhow, it somewhat puts this trailer in a different position from the other (also probably tied to being at a different part of the progression) and gets me thinking a lot!

Speaking of comparisons, I love that Tamtawan keeps his line: “I know he’s my ex. But he’s the ex I want to start over with the most.” And it seems to be said in response to Jamie’s character, Kaoki! I hope they’re friends. I want to see that greatly.

THEN THE PHOTOS ON THE WALLS AND THE HAND TOUCHING AND THE HUG AND THEN THE BED KISS… It’s all so quick. It’s so quick. And I can’t stop thinking about Tamtawan leaning over to kiss a seemingly asleep Pathapi (though his lips puckering for the kiss seems to imply he’s not actually asleep). Which is so cute. They’re so cute. I fear I’ll die of too much cuteness.

Pathapi’s will to prove that he can win everyone over is one of my favorite parts of his character right now, and I love the idea of seeing Pathapi’s journey here, maturing as a character, impressing others, and becoming even better than before in his career, with Tamtawan by his side. The line after that, said by a character I do not know but MDL says is Wari (just a guess as to her role – but maybe she’s Pathapi’s mom – seeing as she knows him so well? Or a coworker who’s known him since he first joined?) tells us a lot about Pathapi’s character, as someone who doesn’t change his mind easily when he loves something…

He still loves Tamtawan…

And then!!!!!!!! JamieEarn!!!!!!!! Kaoki and Nudee!!!!!!!!!!! I’m a normal amount of excited, as you can tell. Kaoki is absolutely stunning, and it seems that their plot will be very sweet. The photographing!!! I love them already, even if we don’t know much about them. I hope we get to see them kiss.

And Ohm Thitiwat’s character! Who is probably a love rival for Pathapi’s affections! There’s so much that is so, so very exciting. And from the account of some novel readers, it seems that this will give us more insight into Tamtawan, as well.

After that, we catch some glimpses of what seems to be the main conflict, with Pathapi injured and then our leads jumping off a boat from armed men. Which is both incredibly amusing in the middle of our sweet romcom with KristSingto’s Better Than playing, and also is making me think about the original synopsis and its mentions of the mafia. Good luck to your favorite exes-to-lovers in probably dealing with the literal, actual mafia.

(I can’t wait.)

As we approach the end, we get my favorite scene of the trailer (apart from Pathapi flipping Tamtawan off) with our leads kissing on what seems to be an island! I’m assuming the island is tied to the ominous men on the boat, and also Pathapi’s injury, but it’s also a gorgeous place to end on.

Tamtawan tapping Pathapi’s leg! Pathapi’s hand! The music, accompanied by Tamtawan saying that things always work out for them in the end! The fire! The burning fire of their relationship reignited (cue the coals scene) and then them making out!

They’re making out!!!!

I am already dead and the show hasn’t even aired yet!!!

Okay, okay. To unpack, I’m very excited to see our KristSingto RPF in the form of exes-to-lovers BL directed by P’Lit and written by P’Aof. That is many, many years in the making. And that looks like an adorably sweet romcom that will tear me to pieces (in a good way).

forever thinking about how shintaro lost all three of his only friends on the same day. the anniversary of his dad dying, too.

so yeah. while he is extremely cringefail. i would shut myself in for four years too if that happened to me. like understandable have a nice day.

shintaro goes thru the horrors and we should talk about that more. like almost every route, on or near the anniversary of his dad and three of his only friends dying, he has to like. we all know it varies on who dies but in general he has to witness at least some of his new friends die.

paired with retaining. top ten characters that go thru it. shintaro wouldnt be number one bc hibiya and kano but hed be like. number three? i guess?

deciding on Who suffers more is a little pointless because it feels kind of bad to be like so what's worse? pretending to be your sister's corpse or a timeloop of 10 years? Like both are bad

however ur so right. shintaro is my little meow meow cringe fail idiot prince. something i love about kagepro and i think it's genuinely really well done is the representation of mental health. shintaro loses all 3 of his friends in one day, of course he's going to react like this. he's even under the impression one of them killed herself directly because of him. this guy's a messssss. iirc, in the novels at one point he even says why was i the only one left? so he definitely also had a bit of survivor's guilt there as well. tbh i think everyone in the dan had some survivor's guilt in regards to the person they died with. why was i chosen and not them? cause in kido's pov it also sounds like that when talking abt rin.

anywaysss. so shintaro is a funny guy. depressed king and with reasons to be sad and traumatized, he's got a strong sense of justice and always acts on what he thinks is right. it's funny that he's also so painfully awkward and anxious, but i think the whole beginning arc of kagepro really tells u who he is. shintaro is shown not being able to even TALK to customer service employees, cause he mumbles everything and stumbles over his words, yet like an hour later he's YELLING AT AN ARMED ROBBER THATS GRABBING HIM BY THE NECK. BOY WHAT😭 shintaro's principles always coming on top of anything else he might be feeling is awesome. it shows again in novel 7 when he's kinda awesome and smooth facing saeru and right after falls to his knees bc mary and kido said it wasn't That cool.

and this is all without mentioning retaining eyes. bro post str shintaro. what a delight. i love him. i wrote a stupid shintaro&takane fanfic once where i sorta go into it of how weird it is for him to live past That august, with everything he knows now. if u care here's a link *kicks rock*

shintaro is already pretty self centered as is. but i think very early on post str, now that retaining has been activated, all the routes bleed together and makes him very confused. and this time forever because retaining has been activated and he's. going to be alive from now on. no more resets. so he HAS to deal with it.

a genius or not, a human brain isn't Made to hold onto different memories of different lifetimes like this, so i think post str shintaro can't help being insensitive to others (in that fanfic i wrote, shintaro realizes him and takane in this final route never talked about her as ene, so while to him it was normal bc of retaining, she was still needing some closure on it)

and now ill mention my kagefuture bullshit SORRY!!! SORRY!!! idk if u even read my fancomic but basically shintaro is acting a little stupid in there. like acting without thinking stupid. i find it very fun to imagine an older shintaro doing that because he's spent so much time Stressing about what's happening and what's going to happen because it's finally different from other routes and that's scary, that to get to the point where he's a little more chill about it, it's inadvertently accomplished by Not Thinking. i like to imagine him living day to day without thinking of what will happen later because if he does that he'll spiral. so he sort of ends up in these weird situations like man. how did i not see this one coming

Umm, unfortunately I feel like my answers to most of these might be kinda mean, and I feel bad about that even if it's my honest thoughts, so I'm going to put them under a cut. Sorry guys. :[

You're not the only one to have this idea; I've seen it out and about quite a bit. And I'm sorry, but to be completely honest, I really dislike it (even moreso than Kris Knight), and I'm honestly kind of baffled that it's as popular as it is. We're supposed to be building this tension of the primary antagonist in the game...their actions could destroy the world! What are their motives? Can they be stopped?? And then just turning around and going "actually a central antagonist doesn't exist and it's just a bunch of random people who all happen to be doing the same actions for different reasons" just completely kills any tension the idea has. It feels like it just drastically lowers the stakes here. Who made the first two fountains? Well, if they're not making more and their actions aren't going to develop further, why would it matter? Again, plenty of people out there seem to be really into this idea! I am just definitely not one of them.

It's bad. Maybe it's just a joke one, but if so, the joke's going over my head. Honestly I'm of a mind that (at least in the normal route), no one is going to die, or has been dead the whole time. I'm even skeptical of Rudy dying!

Whoof. I definitely don't want to police what other people are doing in the fandom to have fun, because having fun is what it's all about! But just for myself, I had to stop watching his videos, because I reached a breaking point of "oh this guy does NOT know what he's talking about and I'm not enjoying these any more." It's really kind of a shame, because I think he's really good at gathering lots of bits of evidence that might be forgotten and extrapolating from it! But his understanding of DR's characterization and themes is, in contrast, so off-base, and the staunch belief that Deltarune is just Undertale's story told over again causes problems for all of his over-arching theories. The craziest thing is, one of his biggest ones, Oberon Smog...I actually agree with!!! I think there's good evidence that Gerson Knight is possible and would fit both logistically and thematically! But one of the reasons why I went ahead and made Mightier Than The Sword was because I wanted to present some kind of alternative take on Gerson Knight from Oberon Smog. The concept as he presents it gets tripped up, again, on mischaracterization, and the assumption that this is just Undertale again. But it could work!! Anyways...yeah I guess my thoughts are complicated.

Uhhh...is it that popular?? I would not really have expected that, since it is a crack theory! The evidence for it is scant, I just thought it would be a neat story beat! I don't know if I've really heard folks talk about it much outside of the comics I did for it, but maybe I'm not paying close enough attention.

I've thought about redeeming Starscream and his brothers here and there somehow. But I think the problem I have with TFP Screamer is he is SOOOOO power hungry.

I think even in season 3 when he got whipped into shape and started being a proper lieutenant, I have no doubt he would snuff out Megatrons spark if he got the chance. I cant see him being loyal to anyone but himself. Or even really believing in anyone else or any other cause.. it feels like he just wants all the power for himself and to do what he wants.

Now if I'm wrong here please correct me- if it actually seems really in character for Screamer (AND his two brothers) to get a redemption arc/proper second chance in TFP then I'm willing to give it a go! :000 I thought it would be fun for them to be a thorn in Megatrons side as stupid lieutenants but an Autobot redemption arc is something I'm always willing to explore! :)))

I think you're right actually, in my opinion I think Ratchet would have a better understanding of internet memes than any other bot.

Some people might think Bee would understand better. But the truth is him and Ratchet are both cybertronians. Just because Bee is younger doesn't mean he automatically has a more based sense of humor. Their level of understanding of internet humor boils down to how much of the internet they have been exposed to. Which I think Ratchet has had the most exposure.

Not that's not to say he really understands it or finds it all funny. But its more like-

Arcee: "What... what even is this image. What am I looking at..??"

Ratchet: "Ah, that is another one of those "meme" things. It is meant to be a humorous image that humans send to each other to make them laugh."

Arcee: "...So.. how is funny..? What does it mean?"

Monster trucks are not in demolition derby's- <:0 Monster trucks are in Monster Jams and demolition derby's consist of normal sized cars.

As for the separate events, They wouldn't want to be in a demolition derby, cuz that would be painful 💀 but I'm sure a lot of them would have fun watching it :00

And none of them would be able to participate in a Monster Jam even if they wanted to. The bots that would be interested don't have a big enough frame to transform int a monster truck :( but they could at least watch them! Just like Bulkhead and Miko! :)

I imagine that would be very irresponsible of them XD so much for laying low. But I can see Vega, Miata and Zippy daydreaming about it. 😅

Actually now that you mention this, all 4 of the factual fam couldn't walk at first after becoming a drawing.

I always meant to draw comics over time of them slowly getting better and better at walking. But never got around to it.

In present day I guess I can say all that development was behind the scenes and they can all walk just fine now <XD

I don't think they'd pull any pranks on me of any kind. They wouldn't want to upset or confuse me in anyway. But boy would they probably mess with each other XDD Jangles and Cici especially.

I couldn't really put the gifs in this ask post <XD but I've always imagined trying to animate my fam and I wanted them to be very smooth and soft looking. Like Disney animation or something James Baxter would animate.

Bibi and Cici especially, smooth and flowy :0 Maybe someday I'll try to animate that....

He’s more confused than offended. “You think you’re an animal?” He sighs, dragging a hand through his hair. “I’m not changing my entire nature because of your ‘no animal product’ philosophy… but I guess I could go easy on the whole biting thing.” He starts avoiding feeding around her, more to keep the peace than anything. Though he teases her with lazy smirks like, “What if I use a straw? Still too carnivorous?”

Reiji Sakamaki

Reiji’s expression twists in visible disapproval. “Such irrational ideology. Do you believe denying your husband sustenance is a sign of moral superiority?” He tries to “re-educate” her on what he views as the flawed logic of her stance. Still, deep down, he’s intrigued by her conviction — even if he absolutely disagrees. He begins seeking synthetic alternatives in the lab, more for control than compromise.

Ayato Sakamaki

“You aren't some cow in a field! I’m not gonna starve ‘cause you read some freaky health book!” He’s loud and insulted, initially taking it very personally. But once he sees she’s genuinely distressed, he grumbles and gets sulky. “Tch… maybe I’ll just bite your arm instead of your neck. That way it’s less… delicious?” He doesn’t understand her views, but he learns to adjust (grudgingly).

Kanato Sakamaki

He stares at her blankly, then starts giggling. “Teddy says you’re funny. Are you afraid I’ll turn into a big bad wolf?” Her ideals amuse him, but they also annoy him if she’s stubborn. “Blood is blood. You’re mine. So give it to me.” If she resists, he becomes volatile — it’s not about nourishment to Kanato, it’s about possession.

Laito Sakamaki

“Aw~ Bitch-chan is so pure. It makes me want to ruin you even more.” He laughs at her logic but plays along with dramatic flair. “If blood’s an ‘animal product’, then what about kissing me? I’m full of sin, too~” While he finds her principles charmingly naive, he ultimately enjoys teasing her about them — and might even try to seduce her into “forgetting” her stance for a night or two.

Subaru Sakamaki

He immediately bristles. “I didn’t choose this, okay? You think I like being a monster?” Her disgust makes him insecure, but if she explains gently, he backs down. “Tch… I’ll just starve again. I’ve done it before.” Her beliefs make him struggle more with self-loathing, but he also respects her enough to keep his distance when she’s firm.

Ruki Mukami

Ruki raises an eyebrow, arms crossed. “Livestock don’t dictate the farmer’s menu.” He finds her stance amusing at first but recognizes the ideological passion behind it. Though he tries to manipulate her with reason, if she holds strong, he’ll compromise with medical blood packs or hypnosis. A curious admiration grows — she’s not like the others.

Kou Mukami

“Ehh? That’s no fun at all, M Neko-chan~” Kou pouts but plays up his charm to coax her. “But your blood is so sweet… not even cruelty-free substitutes could compare~” He complains, but behind closed doors, he switches to bottled blood more often than not, only teasing her for fun. It’s rare he respects boundaries, but hers make her more interesting.

Yuma Mukami

“What kinda hippie bullsh*t is that?!” Yuma is confused and yells a lot at first. “I ain’t gonna munch on some tofu instead of blood, Sow!” But he cools off when she says it’s not about him being a monster — it’s about her values. Eventually, he lets her teach him about her beliefs and grumbles through tofu dinners… though he still sneaks blood when she’s not around.

Azusa Mukami

“…If it hurts you… I won’t do it…” Azusa listens, nodding slowly, his voice soft and pained. “But… will you still love me… if I get weak?” He doesn’t quite understand veganism, but he fully respects her feelings. He starts viewing her ethical purity as something sacred — something that makes him feel unworthy but deeply devoted.

Shin Tsukinami

Teacher Marco is strict. Your uniform better be perfect, or you’re just not going to be allowed to wear it. Hopefully you did study, he’s going to test you. Every wrong answer is one more bead, one more toy, one more clamp, one more weight added to whatever else is there. Maybe if you open your mouth for some extra credit he can show you mercy.

Sabo:

Breath Play - Oh god you don’t even know - Sabo is not the safest person to get into breath play with, but that’s not to say he’s reckless. There’s just something about it that really gets him going and he can push further than you might want him too.

He is good at listening though, and you might be discussing boundaries after the fact, but there’s gonna be an after. Sabo’s observant even when he’s coming unhinged and his observation haki helps you BOTH a lot.

Chapter Summary: In which cavalry arrives.

The suit zooms, its arms wrapped around Helen, who screams. You can’t blame her; the Iron Man Express isn’t fun even when you know to expect it. When it’s all over, she can join you and Pepper in the Express Trauma Victims’ Drinking Session. It’s a quick ride to the chasm, and then the suit zooms upwards to the surface. Your ears pop, your back aches with the force of your ascent, and you burst out onto the surface, landing headlong in the snow. There’s no controlled, graceful three-point superhero landing; just a crash and a roll, but the suit brings you up to your feet, spitting you out before closing up again. “No!” you shriek, trying to sprint back to it—but your stomach is too big, your back aches, and you don’t make it two steps before the suit is back up in the sky, zooming away. “Fuck!” you scream. “Get back here!” The suit breaks open again—and for one moment, you think it’s actually heard you, and it’s coming back to gather you up… Except it’s not you it encloses. It’s Tony.

hi pasta ! i’ve been a long time fan of you and your work, your writing is by far my favorite so far for matt that you’ve reignited me to write fanfics again ! i think you’re incredibly talented and so smart in your way of designing a story so vividly it just sparked my desire to to create again after my 30th reread of TRT. it is totally okay if you choose not to answer these but i have a couple of questions for writers? i have written fanfics before but they never came out to my liking (i never published them😅) so i’m looking to improve it and better my understanding of creating content that i like and am proud of!

the questions !! :

what are some things and tricks to writing lively, real dialogue? i find when i write sometimes my characters seem dull and cardboard like. i want it to flow naturally god dammit !

how do you go about characterization and staying true to it as your character develop and evolve? and to riff off of this question what is some additional research you would do to get the nature of your chosen character (ex, matt) right?

what are ways to better your writing? for example highlighting a characters complex emotions, describing the scenery around, detailed fight scenes and car chases, etc, etc. and not just them but silly grammatical errors and simple vocab. (i’m trilingual so it get a bit fuzzy remember all the rules of every language 😭) your foreshadowing game is just chefs kiss cuz you would sit on something and brush past it but it’ll make its comeback 20 chaps later, HOW??

and lastly, what is your advice to planning a long story? what are some steps you take to je respect the timeline of a show or a movie and how do you fit your OC into it? as well as making the OC’s backstory fit in. speaking of backstory and lore, i find it so hard to fit in believable, human lore to my OC and not make it super childish. i think you did such an interesting job with project beagle, the antagonist, the body swapping, the symbolism, etc, that it just feel so canon to me.

Oh my gosh, this is so sweet! I'm absolutely gd honored you love TRT this much, I'm so, so happy it could help make you want to write fic again! 😭😭😭 Seriously, one of the things that just makes me absolutely delighted is when something I've made could lead to more things being made in turn, cause I don't just love Matt and Daredevil and TRT, I love stories in general! The world needs more of them, so this is FUCKING AWESOME. And I'm happy to answer these questions as best I can!

Natural, lively dialogue: Ooooh this is a fun question I haven't gotten asked before I don't think. I won't lie, part of it absolutely the immersion with all the shows, movies, and books I take in. But there's another element I was taught in creative writing classes - the idea that sometimes you should read as a writer. That is: read while asking yourself, 'how did they do that? Why? How did they foreshadow this?' Etc. You can do the same thing with characters speaking and with people. Listen to how these characters speak, how similar people speak, and try to get a feel for how they talk. I'll use contractions as an example. Most people use contractions, for example (at least in the US), in natural flowing dialogue. It's shorter, it's more casual, whereas they might speak more formally (less contractions) in a professional setting like a courtroom or when they're really angry and speaking somewhat threateningly. They also might not use contractions for other reasons - in TRT Ciro tends to use fewer contractions when speaking English, both because he's a classy guy and because English isn't his native language (he learned it more formally). I also try to treat each character as having their own natural accent (which can also show a bit of their personality). Matt rambles when he's nervous, but his dialogue gets sharp and choppy when he's furious (Devil wants to act, not talk). Foggy loves metaphors and has a lot of swings up and down in tone for emphasis (Grew up a theatre kid). When Jane in TRT is feeling particularly cold, she starts dropping unnecessary words from her sentences so they're shorter (more efficient + trained to give immediate answers without flourish). Sometimes it can also help to listen to the dialogue you write or have it go through a text-to-speech program so you can hear if it sounds stilted, but I've found the ability to detect stilted dialogue is just something you have to practice!

Keeping true to the character while letting them evolve: this is ALSO A FUN QUESTION. Especially because something I was taught is that, generally speaking (always exceptions): a stagnant character is a boring character. They need to struggle with who they are, and grow or devolve as a person. They need to learn. I knew I wanted that to happen in TRT, so yeah, a big question was how I could show characters growing while also keeping them the characters we know and love. And for me it was about figuring out what the basic building blocks of those characters were, and making sure they were always present, because an apple pie should always, in theory, come out of the oven an apple pie, even if it's been changed some by baking. Things like Matt's struggle with his faith, the way he's sorta incapable of finding a middle ground between Devil and Matt Murdock, his refusal to ignore injustice, his trauma and fear of abandonment, his love of the Kitchen, his anger issues and the ensuing impulsivity, these are all building blocks for him. These do not change. What changes is how they manifest, and what he does with them. Matt learns he can trust Jane with his trauma and fear of abandonment. She helps calm his anger. The building blocks are all still there. Some of them just get arranged a little differently as he grows. Same with Jane and how she has grown. She's always going to have Hound Mode floating around in the back of her head. Security will always be her biggest concern, her motivator. She's always going to be the one who prefers to think and plan. She'll always feel a little weird about personal identity, and be able to flip through lies and false faces with the best of them. But she'll handle all of that differently as she grows alongside Matt. The plot is baking them, changing those pies in the oven, but their base ingredients are something I'm super careful to keep consistent. That I think is one of my secrets since this has been going on 8 years now!

Additional research for characterization: I am always, always, always going to recommend good psychology research (I loved this shit in college, especially developmental psychology, and fortunately there's a TON that's easily accessible online and doesn't require any classes). For Matt, that would be psychological things like... what does repeated abandonment do to a person when they're a kid? How does abandonment and parental loss shape their attachment styles and relationships later in life (hint: it's not great)? We know he has untreated depression, so what's going on in his brain considering he's pushing all that down? What would the day-to-day struggle being exposed to all that crime and pain do (research into things like the mental health of paramedics and social workers, etc)? Dissect these characters like little bugs, put them on your table, and try to figure out why someone would do what they do. Be curious, basically!

How To Improve In General: I LOVE THAT YOU BROUGHT UP MY FORESHADOWING FIRST OFF, I'LL ANSWER THAT IN THE NEXT BIT FOR PLANNING BUT. For me this is a couple things. The biggest one is reading, reading, reading. Read professional stuff in addition to fanfic. Read in your chosen genre. Read writers you want to write like! Read writers who are writing what you want to learn! And when you do, ask yourself how they did what you want to do. I have one book series that's my absolute favorite, I've read it over and over and over again. And it's very likely that someone who's read that book series and TRT would be able to spot the influence that book series has had on Jane's character voice, how I write action scenes, morally grey characters, etc. So that's where some of it comes from! For things like detailed emotions and sensations, my favorite book is The Emotion Thesaurus! I've found I don't need it as much now because I've gotten the hang of it, but it's still good to have there as a refresher. And for things like grammar and simple vocab, not only will reading help, but I'd also open the door to any fandom friends who might beta read for you! I've been writing fic since I was... hrrgh, quite young. And I'm super grateful for the betas over the years that would go over my fic and leave notes - notes not just on what they had changed but why: why they changed this punctuation, why they broke up this sentence, why they capitalized this or lower-cased that. That helped a ton! But yeah, when in doubt, grab an author you love and open it up and go, '...Ok, so how did you do this???' Also holy hell, you're triilingual so you already get a TON of kudos here on learning how multiple languages work, YOU GOT THIS.

Planning a long story: now's the part where I make people groan but the biggest advice is to outline, I know a ton of us heard it in school and ignored it because pfft but THE OUTLINE REALLY IS IMPORTANT. This is how I was able to foreshadow things ages in advance - I knew what was coming in the future so I was able to leave breadcrumbs earlier on. This also meant I was able to figure out how certain dominoes would tip (like when TRT's original plotlines would change something in canon) or when there were gaps in Daredevil's timeline that I could neatly settle into. Knowing the entirety of the story and having it all laid out also meant it was easier to change things or work to make sure TRT fit into the Daredevil/Marvel Universe like a puzzle piece. That was one of the steps for me both when it came to respecting the timeline (not that you need to! That was a personal choice for me) and with making sure the lore all fit in. I love the Marvel universe, have since I was a kid, so I was able to tap some of their fun recurring tropes and themes (Evil scientists, secret government projects, Mutants/Enhanced characters in hiding) and instead of trying to make it new, I tried to do my own spin on it instead because I know this sort of thing already exists there, and threw in some of the other general genre tropes I enjoy (love me some symbolic otherworlds and psychic connections). I think for an OC like this, that's sort of the key. Their backstories will fit because they're built on power structures and building blocks that already exist. It's just about finding a little section that hasn't been told yet. That's where this type of OC flourishes: in these little gaps between walls and load-bearing pillars, a story and character you wouldn't find all that unusual if they popped up as a side character in canon, all to explore some part of the world that hasn't really been fleshed out yet. AND if desired, I think there's something to be said for matching just how grounded/fantastical your show/movie is. Daredevil is very, very grounded. People get hurt. They die. These aren't Avengers-level Gods who can take a lightning strike. So I respected that with Jane, who gets hurt... fairly often, tbh. I also leaned into, yet again, a story gap in that while a lot of the people running around with the Devil (Frank, Elektra, Stick, Jess and Luke, etc) are GOOD at fighting, Jane's specialty is NOT fighting, generally, even if she's pretty damn good with a gun and quick with her knife. Her specialty is getting away, so it gives us new things to explore in terms of threats and fight scenes!

I hope all of this helps! Everyone gets better with practice, so don't be afraid to put your stuff out there! God knows I've got old fanfic floating around the internet, and a lot of my early stuff wasn't anywhere near what TRT is. But I also couldn't have gotten to TRT without writing it, posting it, and learning from it. <3

Would absolutely NOT let you leave his sight, he has been through hell and back and knows how cruel this world is yet he can't help but sympathize with the people of the world.

But he's not gonna put you at risk at all, Nuh uh, no.

Again, he would not really leave you alone because of how dangerous the world is, even if you can take care of yourself he is not leaving you alone.

This probably goes for both past and present Rover but they listen to EVERY SINGLE DETAIL YOU SAY.

It's like a part of his brain is reserved just for you, mentally taking notes of things you hate and like, your good habits and bad habits.

Definitely softer yearning than before.

When he saw you it was literally love at first sight, your hand reaching for his heart as it ripped open his rib cage. It's been like that for centuries and he wouldn't even know. He just mistook it for curiosity at first is all.

I feel like he'd be a bit more touchy, therefore it's just a slightly bit more obvious that he wants you.

Like for example, he'd grab your hand claiming that he didn't want to lose you by accident. Sometimes with a brush of your hand against his would suffice.

At your every call, he's running towards you as soon as you start uttering a single letter of his name.

He's more protective now than possessive, but he knows you can take care of yourself so he lets you do your thing.

In a subconscious manner he'll try to match your breathing pattern like he's trying to become one with you.

There is still several aspects of his past self in his current self. He himself doesn't know.

He's the pathetic type of yearning.

He feels so SO SO homesick for arms that have never held him (your arms) (he wants to be held by you so bad it's basically killing him)

In conclusion Rover wants ALL OF YOU in general. Your flaws. Mistakes. Imperfections. He wants you and only you. You're a part of him now so he's gonna look for you in every life👅

"Cipherjack Tuesday". Well. Kind of. Don't have much a lot of coherent cool stuff to post but I would like to talk about it anyway.

The premise is "Internet is magic" and then go off from there. Originally there was a more fantastical fairy element to it but it's shifted more towards scifi over the years. The internet is still very much magic, though, with sentient beings that exist in it that are associated with demons, fairies, angels, etc. You got goblins that steal code, devils spamming you with pop up porno game ads and scams, and Things Whispering To You on the deep web.

Most of day to day life is like, some what AR'ififed. You can't really go about the world without having something that allows you access to the Net (sometimes called the Cipher)

I always start with the magic system in my worlds, so the magic works as "code" that you construct and then 'launch' or cast. So it's like typical incantation magic where you write a spell except you don't write it on paper or use mystical ingredients, you code it, run it, and hope your rig can handle whatever you just did.

"Languages" are the 'schools' or types of magic.

Codes are cast through devices. There are different types of devices that can be used. Mainstream hardware is often severely limited by companies so Codebreakers need to jailbreak their hardware.

The device needs enough CPU power to cast certain spells. If it's too much, the device might break, burn, explode, etc.

Code also requires mental load, especially if you are casting off the cuff. You can preload spells to reduce the load but this takes a long time to set up and requires planning.

You can buy premade code or create your own. Premade code will always be weaker as it has to be designed for general usage and there's a limit to what you can find on the market.

Code can be used as many times as you want but like everything, it is susceptible to bitrot. Cheap/Low quality code will degrade fast and eventually become unusable.

Overloading yourself with too much code can cause lasting mental damage and even physical damage.

Overusing magic causes data corruption that bleeds into the real world: glitched objects, people phasing out of sync, memories overwritten.

Texas seceded first (although California claims they did it first) it didn’t go well because of infrastructure issues now they’re heavily tied to the Triad, now known as the Texas Triad

a computer virus threatened the world and it’s origins… Ohio. They used the DELETE bomb and now all that’s left is a smoking crater and is now a Glitch Zone (reality is corrupted)

a mister mouse has wakened and began his plans for his utopian police state. Florida is now ruled by a mouse mecha with a frozen head atop it. He is simply known as The Animator now.

a good chunk of what remains in DSA is owned by CostCorp. They sell every conceivable good and hold immense power and sway.

The game i'm working on is set in Eerie, which is a big city/sprawl place built in lake erie

well that's all I can think of at the moment.

i keep getting stuck on this project and that's likely because I don't talk about it to other people and get trapped in my own head, so I'm gonna try to force myself to post more about it. if you're interested in talking about it or are curious or whatever, hmu.

originally this was a tabletop setting I was gonna run but I don't get to do tabletop anymore, so now I've been writing a computer game(tm) for it. But I might do other stuff with it, who knows. it's just fun

HELLO FOLKS I'M GOING TO DO A LIVEBLOG-BY-MEMORY OF MY FIRST TIME WATCHING HAZBIN EPISODE 5, AKA LUCIFER'S INTRO

...except it turned into a "why i like Hazbin's Lucifer" thing because i have so many thoughts while watching animated things, especially Vivzie's animated things because i'm a nerd and i'm constantly going "-Minecraft Steve dying noises- THAT COULD HAVE BEEN DONE BETTER" aND I DIDN'T WANT TO TYPE ALL MY THOUGHTS, WHICH WOULD TAKE LITERAL HOURS AND HOURS QJFKSQJJKQSJKS (WELL, ADDITIONAL "HOURS AND HOURS" TO WHAT I'VE ALREADY SPENT ON THIS)

(AND I MAINLY WANTED TO MAKE THIS POST SO FUTURE-ME COULD REMEMBER WHY I GOT SO WILDLY OBSESSED WITH THIS CARTOON MAN FOR WELL OVER A YEAR+ ANYWAY)

ACTUALLY, ON THAT NOTE: if you're here just to have a good time enjoying Hazbin rambles, DO be aware this post may lean more toward a "Hazbin critical" post, especially at the beginning. i would have gotten a Minecraft game over if each thing that bugged me caused me physical damage, even in just the first minute and a half. don't worry if you don't know what i'm talking about with the animation or art stuff, and don't worry if you like parts i didn't because i was distracted by the animation (especially the song "More than Anything"). i'm just a picky nerd. also, if you want, you can ask about animation things and i can explain. i love rambling about animation!!! :D

i get a bit personal about mental health stuff and other things, but i don't think any of it requires trigger warnings; i'm generally pretty vague on specifics and i don't talk about anything too severe

these messages i sent a friend on my first watch are a decent "TL;DR" summary of this whole post, minus my thoughts on Lucifer's crowded-with-rubber-ducks room, which are especially important to why i like him so much. (TL;DR of that section: "lol he just like me for real")

i'm almost certain "YEAH I THINK LUCIFER'S GONNA BE MY ACTUAL FAVORITE BECAUSE HE HAS THOSE FUN FACIAL EXPRESSIONS" was when Lucifer and Alastor were pushing Charlie around. i LOOOOVE Lucifer's smug -> SURPRISE -> FROWN faces there

hazbin hotel has taught me that unreliable narrator is one of my favorite narrative devices. How an event is narrated can simultaneously worldbuild and teach the audience about the character who's narrating. it would make sense that the opening story of Hazbin, written by a mother for her child and written about that mother herself and her husband, would paint herself and her husband in a better light than they might deserve

learning more about Lucifer was something I was REALLY looking forward to ever since episode one's opening, with the children's story talking about "Lucifer's ideas for creation" and then not elaborating whatsoever on what those ideas might be. how excitingly ominous!

and then episode 5 starts. (We're not to Lucifer's intro yet in this retelling. i don't even know what the episode will be about. hold on XD)

and the animation is terrible

while episodes 1 through 3 felt pretty cramped in their writing's pacing and episode 3 had a few animation/character design consistency moments that made me grimace, overall, their animation quality was pretty consistent and good. (Well, the writing quality for episode 3 was awful. Just really terrible. But that's a whole other post I might or might not make, with, at this point, "might not" looking more likely unless someone asks XD) (episode 4, Angel Dust's episode, was AMAZING, especially with its writing. single best episode in the series. i have some critiques, but overall it's great, and i'm impressed with its pacing)

watching episodes 1 through 4, I wasn't getting whiplash from the animation as I often do while watching Helluva Boss, which frequently changes line art types between animators or clean-up artists and can even pretty dramatically change a character's look between shots

and. Yeah. episode 5.

Even after watching episodes six through eight, 5 is STILL the worst animated episode in the entire series, and I would say that includes if I were to count all of the Helluva Boss episodes

... although, now that I'm thinking about it, I don't know if I would categorize it as having as bad of animation as the Hazbin pilot XD Now I want to rewatch the pilot just to see which I think has worse animation quality/consistency: the pilot or episode 5 lol

BUT I'M GETTING DISTRACTED. (AND, SERIOUSLY, DON'T WORRY IF YOU HAVEN'T NOTICED ANY OF WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT HERE OR IF YOU DON'T AGREE. SERIOUSLY, DON'T STRESS ABOUT IT. THE REASONING/OBSERVATIONS BEHIND THESE ANIMATION RAMBLES ARE SUPER NICHE)

SO. YES. BACK TO EPISODE 5 LIVEBLOGGING THING.

I grimace at the drawing of Charlie looking upward as she tells herself to think:

Not much wrong with the underlying drawing itself -- it's heavily stylized, and that's okay. But the line art on her mouth is a lot thicker than it should be and doesn't have the correct "lipstick" tapering she usually has (extra, extra thick in the middle of her lips, thin at the corners of her mouth). Plus, her movements have really rough settling and feel gross to me. i internally grimace at this whole shot, but It's okay, i tell myself. Hazbin hotel's animation and art quality have improved a lot! This could just be a bad shot that slipped through. it happens! making shows and movies can be chaotic!

... uh-oh. Now the line weights on Charlie's face and body in this shot are wrong too:

I'm starting to feel bad about the episode already, and I don't even know what it's going to be about. (the only thing I DID know about episode 5 was Alistair was going to go "big and freaky monster form" because of the thumbnail Amazon gave the episode, and I was looking forward to that from a glimpse I got in a teaser)

(I'm actually rewatching the episode alongside making this post, to get specific moments if any arise that I want to discuss, and ugh lol, I might just make another post -- probably on my rambles side blog, not here, because I prefer to keep it at least MOSTLY positive and fun here -- doing a whole play-by-play of episode 5. even though I couldn't have known it on my first view, I now have so many comments to make about Charlie's mimicking her dad and saying, " 'gO aHeAd, KiLL eVeRyOnE.' " again, hazbin hotel taught me I love unreliable narrating. and, spoiler alert, Hazbin taught me that because of how poorly it does unreliable narrating, or because of how it almost doesn't do it at all. :( )

(ANYWAY)

when Charlie turns around and says, "Wait! That's... IT!"

her face is distractingly off model and now I'm feeling even WORSE about the direction this episode is going. episode 3 flashbacks lol. If you don't count Hazbin's 30 second intro, we're not even one minute into episode 5, and it's already looking like we're gonna get something as bad as episode 3

side note:

off-model Charlie (i think a big part of the "off-model" impression here is 1. mainly because her eyelashes are so gigantic they almost hide her eyebrows, and a character having no eyebrows when they usually do can look odd, and 2. her pupils aren't wide enough or circular enough): "Wait! That's... IT!"

Vaggie: "Kill everyone?"

Vaggie's line is sincerely one of the best jokes in the series lol. Love that

...okay yeah, I'm not going to do as accurate of a play-by-play of my first viewing of episode 5 as I can, because that would take so so so so so so long XD But, at least one more non-lucifer related note because I do like to point out strong moments in Vivziepop's shows:

I DO feel good about Charlie differentiating between Adam being a terrible person and between all of heaven being untrustworthy (unclear wording on my part lol: What I mean is, she calls Adam an asshole, but she has hope the rest of heaven will be open to her redemption idea and not so dismissive and rude to her.)

her naivete up to this point hasn't given me the impression that she would make that sort of differentiation (and, by the time of episode 5, Vivzie's and especially Hazbin's writing style in general hasn't given me the impression Vivzie would do anything more with Heaven than "Heaven Evil, Actually")

so, anyway, let's skip some more animation rambles and a comedic timing rant, and fast forward to:

Angel Dust: "Well I'd like to meet the big dick in charge!"

Niffty: "The ULTIMATE bad boy! (giggles maniacally) I bet he's SCARY."

My brain goes into overdrive after Niffty's line, especially since it transitions from "I bet he's SCARY" to "-scratchy, guttural voice intended to be powerful and intimidating in a dark room-"

that "overly in agreement with the adjective 'scary' " transition tells me there's an upcoming tonal whiplash joke, meaning Lucifer isn't going to be scary at all

further, the dark room setting that we're given right away, shows that the pictures Lucifer has up are off-kilter.

so, he's not scary (which we can know because of the color tone and audio transition agreeing TOO much with Niffty's statement). he's disorganized. he has multiple photos of him happy with his family Even though they haven't been together for years, and he even has a photo of Charlie in what might have been for most parents a "teenage phase" that they'd like to forget

but apparently Lucifer loves Charlie so much, that he even fondly looks back on her angsting teenager years -- he kept that photo and even hung it up

tonal whiplash joke incoming confirmed, and an especially poorly done one at that. visually, the whiplash could have been done better if there were more obvious signs of neglect, damage, or wear, or maybe even a sheet partially covering one of the images, at first misleadingly implying he doesn't want to associate with or think about his family anymore

instead, he clearly loves his daughter and his family, even though Charlie feels alienated from him. maybe she hasn't seen him in a while because he's a shut-in, or he needed to mostly cut off contact for some reason and we'll find out that reason shortly

when it comes to character intros, overbuilding a character being intimidating and then doing a 180 to show that they're not is one of my least favorite jokes. ever. so my thinking " 'this person actually isn't scary' tonal whiplash joke confirmed" isn't a good time

sudden drop in animation quality, poor dialogue pacing... yep, this episode is off to a TERRIBLE start

...side note

i totally thought Lucifer was masturbating at first

when I later watched this episode with my brother, he did too. (I forget exactly what he said, but he was a bit taken aback or made some joke about it.) and Jeremy Jordan (Lucifer's voice actor) makes a joke in a character description about Lucifer and says Lucifer "play[s] with his dick all day." (Jeremy's swearing so much in that video because the Hazbin voice actors are playing a game of "see how much you can swear while describing your character.")

so, the "oh, he's masturbating" visual misread may have been intentional lol even tho idt i've seen anyone mention this

end of that side note

now an animation side note: the rises and settles of Lucifer's shoulders here are not done well. Very blocky, like that first moment that put me off with Charlie at the start. episode 5's animation sucks

i think to myself, hating this episode, that this is a terrible first animation to use for an important character's introduction. this poorly executed intro is especially egregious because he's mentioned and even vaguely shown in the pilot, and he also gets the same "importantly mentioned but passingly shown" treatment in the very first episode--

"... THE MAGIC-TASTICAL BACKFLIPPING RUBBER DUCK!"

okay that's hilarious and adorable. that was great

"THAT SPITS FIRE!!!"

INCREDIBLE. I LOVE HIM.

... ohp the animation, lineart, and visual timing are bad again. but I've already forgotten how much I hated the lead up to his intro with that "tonal whiplash" joke, because his intro is SO GOOD XD

Lucifer: "Hold the applause, please, okay! Heh, alright, thank you…" ...hm. huh. his voice is. just a guy. kinda boring and an odd choice. (DON'T ATTACK ME I DIDN'T KNOW JEREMY JORDAN AT THIS POINT ;QJSFKJKQSJKSKQJ. HIS VOICE WAS LITERALLY "JUST A GUY" TO ME)

aND OH. I WAS FAR MORE RIGHT THAN I EXPECTED ABOUT HIM BEING A SHUT-IN. A DARK ROOM WITH TILTED PHOTOS, FILLED WITH RUBBER DUCKS, GIVING THE IMPRESSION OF ISOLATION AND OBSESSIVE PROBLEM-IGNORING.

THIS GUY IS NOT DOING OKAY

and now here's one of the first reasons I started to especially get attached to him, rather than just go "haha What a funny character":

things have improved a lot, and I haven't self-sabotaged for a while at levels that I did in the past, but one of my coping mechanisms when I'm stressed is over-focusing on media I like or over-focusing on side projects.

(Don't worry about my blogs hyper fixating on stuff, genuinely. I don't think most people can tell from the outside when it's at a self-sabotaging point until there are signs like failing classes [self-sabotaging to that level only happened one semester but WOW it was miserable]. but, even tho it may not be visible from the outside, I can tell the emotions and feelings behind what I'm doing. usually there's almost only anxiety of "this isn't what i should be doing" with no enjoyment at those points, and i'm spending NO TIME AT ALL on responsibilities.

let me emphasize: in that situation when i'm exceedingly stressed and don't know what to do or am too scared to do what i'm aware i should, i may be spending almost all my time on hobbies or interests, but it's MISERABLE AND IT'S NOT EVEN HOW I WANT TO BE SPENDING MY TIME. I'M TOO SCARED TO DO ANYTHING ELSE, AND I MIGHT EVEN BE TELLING MYSELF "STOP, THIS ISN'T WHAT YOU SHOULD BE DOING" THE ENTIRE TIME

all that is also different from my ADHD difficulty with switching tasks, altho "overfocusing to avoid things" and ADHD executive dysfunction can mix together and make each other exponentially worse if i don't take care of myself. anxiety and ADHD are dumb and tricky to work with... but at least i'm self-aware and can usually tell apart which of those two is causing me problems? lol????

anyway, point being of this parenthetical aside, other than partially being more detail on why i relate so much to this maladaptive coping mechanism: hyperfixating is what I do by default, and I'm doing fine right now. :p :) 💜)

Lucifer's barely been onscreen for ten seconds, and he's doing well on becoming a character I like. already he has in his favor:

having a moment done so well, that it pushes past my preemptive eye rolling (The overbuilt intro [bad] followed by The Rubber Duck [magic-tastical]. ....although if a moment has to be done SO well that it pushes past preemptive eye rolling, maybe that's not a shortcut XD)

specific poor coping mechanism that I strongly relate to

and now for an "oh boy this episode's animation SUCKS" interlude: i'll just copy-paste a ramble I sent a friend a while ago about animation quality on this whole Lucifer intro scene.

OH BOY EP 5 HAS SUCH MESSY ANIMATION CLEANUP LOL and i'm genuinely not convinced Lucifer was given a character [reference] sheet [more specifically, i'm not convinced he was given a turnaround] from how many variations there are in his design.

in general in these three shots, pretty nice line variation, with thicker lines on the outside of the character and thinner ones on the inside (details and inner lines are thinner than the bolder "overall form" outside lines) + individual lines change in thickness along their lengths (e.g. some lines are thicker in the center and thinner at the ends, and vice versa for others):

now for listing more things that Lucifer does well that I relate to or simply enjoy, just in his intro scene (While implicitly acknowledging the animation/cleanup/consistency oversight continues to be terrible lol):

practicing before a phone call (I've only done this a few times, and not with anyone as important to me as Charlie is to Lucifer, but it's felt necessary a few times, even if i felt awkward doing it each time. but even if i don't often rehearse for phonecalls, it's not uncommon for me to write bulletpoint lists for them beforehand [usually not with friends or casual calls, but sometimes] )

especially when already in a poor head space, speaking poorly of any attempts i might do at almost anything, as Lucifer does at his practiced lines to Charlie and as he did with the Magic-tastical rubber duck

SO MANY funny faces and so much movement and expressiveness

EXUBERANT too energetic greeting to make it seem like he's doing well. that "HEY! How are ya!!!" reminds me of so many times that I've needed to pretend to be okay almost immediately after a breakdown or felt like I need to force myself to seem like I'm in a good mood for someone who I feel is doing worse than me. (this is not necessarily healthy)

Charlie: "You know where I am, Dad! I've told you before!" -insert The ADHD Meme:-

... except in the above case, I'm not applying "ADHD" to Lucifer, and, even now more than a year later, I still don't want to until given more character information. instead, I'm seeing "depressed and withdrawing from the world, and suffering from memory issues that come alongside depression."

unfortunately, I relate to that too -- depression memory issues -- and Hazbin's writing so far is doing a great job at saying "depression" without literally saying it. (fortunately, my relating to depression is an "in the past" thing. also here, in my experiences, "depression / dissociating memory loss" and "ADHD memory loss" feel different from each other. AT LEAST I'M SELF-AWARE?? LOL????????)

(side note: Lucifer being autistic and having ADHD are popular headcanons in the fandom. i respect those headcanons and am not telling anyone they need to change them. i can see it. i just don't feel like i can, in good faith with my understanding of his character, say those apply to him until we've seen him under less stress and less pressure. many anxiety, stress, and depression responses can read as ADHD or autism, and the frequent comorbidity of any of these with each other make them even trickier to individually identify)

Lucifer: "Well, you know, I um... Uh." THAT DELIVERY AND HIS EXPRESSIONS. FUNNI. GOOD.

but also, i interpret the above moment as maybe more evidence of memory issues from depression (if it's not just him not knowing how to avoid saying "i was. making ducks"). this writing is awesome (sincere)

Charlie: "I told you when you called me 5 months ago? Or did you not listen?" Getting accused of not listening when something is just not at all in my memory is so real

Lucifer in response to Charlie's above line: "(panic that settles into an attempt of composure) No! No no no! Just--You know, just FORGOT. You know, I've just been really busy. You know with um. IMPORTANT things. 😬😶" i connected to so many parts of those few lines: the backpedaling after realizing you said the wrong thing, and the trying to make it seem like your forgetting isn't associated with how much you care about the other person (because sometimes the saying ~"If it's important, then you'd remember" just doesn't apply)

the following doesn't as directly tie to what's going on with Lucifer in the story But nonetheless gives me an extra "ping" of "I relate to this guy." still with the above moment, specifically the awkward lie of he's been busy with "important things," a lot of my hobbies and interests can seem trivial or even shameful to much of my family.

most people find it's super cool that I animate, but somehow those same people don't always seem to make the connection that means I enjoy watching cartoons a lot, and that, even though they think animating itself is cool, somehow an adult really liking animated stories is immature, or that it's "weird" I focus so much on one series much of the time. Plus, socializing can be difficult and exhausting for me, so I need a lot of "rest days." and I'm physically disabled, Even outside of what's currently going on with my sprained hand.

basically where I'm going with this, when it comes to meeting up with people and doing things that aren't doctors' appointments or school- or work-related, I may need to negotiate dates and times with people, even though I may not technically have a lot going on, or I may not have a lot going on by other people's perspectives. just doing a doctor's appointment or hanging out with other people might exhaust me for a day or two, so already that's a lot of space "filled" in my calendar

(This is different from fatigue syndromes, since how exhausting an interaction is, is almost always directly tied to how much i need to second guess myself or mask. I think it's just an "it can be tiring to consciously and constantly analyze people's body language, tone, and word choices, as well as tiring to analyze what I say or do three times before I do anything due to autism and taught anxiety" thing.)

But giving myself my rest days so I can maintain my emotional stability and emotional health is so important. I've had people, often family, question me in annoyance before about, well, what do I have going on anyway? and the answer is watching YouTube or reading a book

But you don't need to know that. You just need to know that I'm not available the other day that you wanted to try to talk or meet up. "I'm busy," or "That day doesn't work for me."

so, yeah, "important things" said with a bit of (narrative) humor and (character) awkwardness is relatable too, even if my experience isn't what's going on in this scene

Lucifer so happily and readily wanting to help Charlie (at first lol) has actually been really important to me. i'm fortunate to have a dad who's eager to help his kids and is financially able to, But it can feel bad or shameful to ask for help. Not going to get too far into this, but some of my siblings are okay with asking for financial help, and some of us aren't. until I saw this episode, I was in a mindset of "only ask parent for financial help If you're literally in danger of dying or being (further) disabled for life," Even though almost every time I talked to my dad he would seemingly be implying, "PLEASE, Is there something I can do for you?"

--- basically, even though there were some really bad moments in my life, I still didn't see asking for his help as an option. But the shocked literally wide-eyed eagerness Lucifer shows at feeling like he can help his daughter got me to understand more fully where a parent might be coming from, a parent who cares about their child and who has the means and desire to help.

--- this small moment has literally encouraged me to ask for help when i might have been too anxious to do so before. or, with some of the things i asked for help with, maybe i still would have asked, but I would have been far more troubled and guilt-ridden than otherwise, making already stressful situations even more stressful

with all that I wrote above, I didn't take it personally when Lucifer refused Charlie's request at first. first of all, this is fiction and i'm not actually any of the characters in the story lol. second, the moment was done comedically, and almost certainly, I thought even on my first viewing, it's related to a bad past experience Lucifer has had with heaven. this is The Lucifer we're talking about after all, and his banishment is definitively established in episode 1. also I got distracted by all the bad animation and what, to me, was a too-long joke with all of his "No"s lol. (when I watched this episode for a second time, knowing how much I now liked Lucifer, I figured the multi-No moment would grow on me, and it has XD)

him wanting to see Charlie so badly is endearing lol, and his missing or entirely forgetting or ignoring the point of WHY she's inviting him over is funny, even if concerning

Lucifer: "My~ daughter~ wants to see~ meeeee~" both funny and a sweet reminder of how parents can feel about children they love: they want to spend time with their kids, and they want to feel like they matter to their kids.

--- also, this whole last moment, from before he hangs up to the end of this little singing bit, seems to hint that for some reason he wasn't spending time with Charlie because someone told him that she DIDN'T want to see him, or for some reason he convinced himself of that. this is SUPER interesting and, if i'm reading the moment correctly, i'm still curious about the origin of him having those beliefs

"TAKE THAT, DEPRESSION!!" I actually didn't care much for this moment when I first watched. it brought his depression out of a "well written but not said outright" category + where did he learn the term "depression" since it being used that way is relatively recent and he's who-knows-how-many-thousands-or-millions-or-billions of years old + he's an old geezer (many older people aren't very open about mental health diagnoses or what they view as "trendy" diagnoses) + i got concerned "depression" might be used as a narrative excuse for any of Lucifer's shortcomings or poor actions. although his face is funny :p and this moment has grown on me and I do like it now, especially after seeing how much Jeremy Jordan loves this line during his live streams

NEW SCENE. LUCIFER'S AT THE HOTEL NOW

(i caps lock this next part, although, looking at the messages to my friend as I first watched the episode, it looks like even though I was enjoying Lucifer trying and failing to be a good dad [because, in almost all circumstances, if a child, especially an adult child, feels abandoned by their parent, that parent is not doing a good job] I was still hesitant to enjoy the overall episode.

The animation has been atrocious, the pacing and joke writing has felt off, and this is the first episode released after the first chunk of four. I was concerned all Quality Control was put into the first four episodes, and that the quality of the rest of the show will have plummeted)

LUCIFER IS SO PATHETIC AND AWKWARD. HOW LONG WAS HE STANDING OUTSIDE THE DOOR. I LOVE HIM

AAAAWWWW. HE'S SO HAPPY TO BE HERE AND SO HAPPY TO SEE CHARLIE

OH MY GOODNESS HIM PETTING AND COOING AT KEEKEE IS THE CUTEST THING

--- ON A LATER VIEW WHEN I SAW HIS AWKWARD SMILE BEFORE BENDING DOWN TO PET KEEKEE, I ASSOCIATED HIS PETTING KEEKEE AS SIMILAR TO GOING TO A PARTY AND FIXATING ON A CAT OR DOG BECAUSE YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO INTERACT WITH THE PEOPLE. VERY RELATABLE ANXIETY / AWKWARD RESPONSE

OH MY GOODNESS HIS LITTLE DANCE AND TINY BIT OF SINGING WITH RAZZLE AND DAZZLE IS AMAZING

the "You better be" joke is actually another type of joke that I am usually not a fan of (another "OoOoOoO unexpected tone change!" joke) and it doesn't work for me here

--- ASIDE: I can say that the delivery in the Canadian French dub maybe works as a joke for me XD in English, the "you better be" isn't all that intimidating anyway, so the tonal joke isn't done well. in Canadian French, it IS more intimidating. AND his follow-up laugh is so dorky and funny. his laughing almost sounds like he's trying to be a neighing cartoon horse

honestly I can't fault Lucifer for his uncertain first looks around the hotel, followed by his "It's got a lot of character!" He's TRYING to be supportive and not discouraging. but he sucks at it. also, funni

some things are done poorly in this scene, but I forgot that i originally titled the draft of this post "why I like Lucifer." so, how about to save probably literally a few thousand words, I will just focus on moments that specifically matter to how I understand Lucifer XD

might not necessarily relate but man ive had this eating me up inside for ages because i just felt too worried about writing this down anywhere that id hurt someones feelings but like man its been years now its probably fine

Once I was writing this fic of like a crossover and I was just kinda having fun writing whatever and on like whims so it was kind of a mess but I had fun writing it whenever I got bursts of inspiration of like 'oh hey what if [this happens]'

and then i got a comment that like to be fair was constructive criticism and pointed out a bunch of loopholes and inconsistencies n stuff like that and also how ooc my characters were and that i might as well have just made it an oc thing

which. i really appreciated because yeah im still learning how to write and still improving but it was.. really demotivating

that i kind of just stopped writing that fic entirely. i tried to like take a long time before i posted a chapter telling my readers im discontinuing the fic because i didnt want them to feel like they were the cause of it since yknow they were just trying to be helpful but like man.... it just sucked all the fun out of it for me

and like i mean now im more likely to read like character analyses and like how people would describe their personality on wikis and write fics more on media ive recently consumed so i remember it better in comparison to stuff i havent seen in years and just winging it, and like not skipping over stuff thats really important to the story im telling but i skip over because i dont know how to write it (its really just a letting someone in on the 'truth' so idk man i didnt think i had to summarize it but i guess i did like a big build up to it so sure) and like trying to keep a better track of whats going on so its not all over the place

and like im better at writing people reacting to stuff and like actually doing something which i felt weird about for the longest time because thered just be this one character yapping with a lot of dialogue that i just didnt know how to have the other character react

but sometimes i just think back to like longg paragraphs of notes i had planning out stuff that i kinda wanted to add into that fic (based off of other media id consumed and really liked) and i just never got to do it cause when i was thinking it up it was really fun, and i thought it was fun even if i wasnt entirely sure how i was gonna write it

but then i read that comment and then i look at my notes and then they just.. kind of feel really dumb. like, like its such a bullshit ending idea and just.. didnt know how to keep writing because then i just kind of started being overly critical when i didnt even have the whole idea of the fic planned, it was just literally something i started on a whim and kept continuing on a whim with hella inconsistent updates, just whenever i felt like it but itd still sit in the back of my head brainstorming the whole time so it was still important to me

but ohh man people are taking this seriously

..i should take this seriously

and then i didnt have anything to write. or like id think back on it and want to write something but then id have all these doubts weighing down on me that i just kept putting it on the backburner

which really sucked. (anyway that kinda made me not really want to write multichapter fics for the long term and instead turn them into oneshots that i can return to whenever but most likely not since theyre 'done', and whenever i take too long on a multichapter fic its like whatever im not getting anywhere lets just discontinue)

dont get me wrong i love comments but i also understand like okay you can think oh they could probably do this part better and wanna give constructive criticism and feedback and advice, but its like.. if they dont want it then dont give it?? this is such a complete topic change from the post im reblogging but i dont know where else to put it and am not confident in it standing okay as its own post

and im sure there are ways to word feedback in a way thats less negative and like wouldnt make someone lose motivation but would instead push them to do better like ooh thats another way of how i can do this, but you remember one kinda more negative comment then a bunch of positive ones 😭

also this might be completely different to other people they can prob take it, i just take comments to heart way too much

ive seen some fics that will have in notes that theyre open to like constructive criticism and thats what i mean where its okay to do stuff like that

so like you can share stuff then or if you do write comments on other fics then maybe try to word it in a way that wont make them feel like what theyre doing is stupid or something 💀

like once i got this comment that was like oh you can separate the paragraphs more and that was a nice comment (dont remember the exact wording) and it also changed how i wrote cause before i wrote these huge blocks of text but now theyre more separated into smaller paragraphs and easier to digest

and i found that very helpful, i think it really comes down to the wording since tones are pretty hard to tell in writing (minus tone tags, i dont see a lot of them tbh)

anyway uh

i dont really know if this will resonate with a lot of people or if like i just have like a completely wrong take or if its sounding like i dont like comments (I really do appreciate comments they give me the extra boost i need to write stuff because it tells me that there are people who really like my writing)

but dude ive had this stuck in my head for like 2-3 years and not once have i written anything even hinting towards it because i kept feeling really really bad and didnt want them to feel bad if they were still reading my stuff

but man i just needed to get this out there. get my thoughts out. now ill just start to forget about this now that ive given it an outlet

anyway trying to get back to the actual topic of the post i reblogged

i try to be more accurate and closer to canon now but sometimes i just gotta accept it like man... this is gonna be hella ooc. but yknow what? thats okay. and since its ooc what if i just do THIS and THIS??? whose looking for accuracy points?? not me. also probaly tagging out of character is a good idea just in case so if anyones like 'AGHH THEYRE SO OOC' '*points to tag* WELL YEAH???'

anyway i kinda got that comment when i was a bit more insecure in my writing but in those years ive accepted that yeah fanfiction is just whatever man, its made by the fans for the fans so who the hell cares if its like hella bullshitty or something idfk man theres no limit to what random ass shit you can do in fics (and sometimes that shit is hella funny too) and who cares if its not like professional ass writing (do we look like professionals??? ....*stares at the fic writers who have actually published books* i mean well not all of us LMAO)

also its really really easy to just.. stop reading if you find something in a fic you dont like. you dont have to comment at all. its that easy.

theres so many fics out there that im sure theres one that'll be your cup of tea so its fine if you find one you dont like, just try another one

also dont be afraid to just turn off comments or some shit and keep writing 💀 cause at the end of the day we're kinda just writing what we want, no one else, we just end up posting it for other fans to enjoy so i say do whatever makes you happy, dont let what other people say (who are being negative) affect what you write because at that point wheres the fun in writing?? wheres the charm of doing whatever the fuck you want, or even the charm of planning out a full on story of this idea that you really like and want to expand upon???

anyway hope i made some sense

what do u think about people whining when you change a character too much in a fic? it’s fanfiction after all, i don’t want my silly cringey fics to be canon, but i’m scared to write for a certain character because they’re not into romance in canon and people jump to each others throats because some people write fiction about them and others say its implied not canon.

I have talked about this before (tap here for how I feel about the matter).

but to sum it up, I don’t “think” about people who whine about this, except that they’re entitled, I block them and then I forget about them.

what I do think / what I believe is that writers can write whatever they want. you can write whatever you want. it’s your work, your creation. write it for yourself, it’s so much more fun than writing just to please random strangers on the internet.
