007 Fest 2024 Intro post

Let me introduse my OC for 007 Fest — Lily Snow As a florist Lily is a dedicated and passionate individual who runs a charming little flower shop that she inherited from her grandmother. With a deep love for flowers and a keen eye for design, she creates stunning floral arrangements that brighten up the lives of her customers. Her shop is filled with an array of colorful blooms, each carefully selected and arranged with care. She is proud to continue her grandmother's legacy, bringing joy to the community through her beautiful floral creations..

Hi all, I'm Tanya [a.k.a. Ghost Tardis] she/her, 20 y/o, a second year uni student, a bit of an artist and joining to 007 Fest for the first time! Honestly, I'm nervous a little.. (but also i'm so excited to be here!) I'm on Station Pacific.

Why you should join 007 Fest this summer

Here’s the thing about tumblr, it’s not always conducive to finding new communities and actually getting to know people. Sure you can hang around in a tag and recognize the other blogs who also post there, but there’s not much talking involved. 

007 Fest is the opposite! I lurked in the Bond fandom before joining this fest and I have not regretted it. 

When Fest starts you’ll be put in a team and your team captains will work to organise a few team chats or at least some collaborative logo designing to get you started talking with other people in your team. You’ll also have the opportunity to chat with members of other teams at watch parties, discord readalongs, or weekly chat nights in slack. 

As other people have mentioned, 007 Fest is more than just a typical writing fest or art tag. It celebrates fandom. This means writing and art, yes, but also commenting, creating music, poetry, knitting, themed recipes, dramatic tea leaf reading, meta posts, or even just being there in chat. 

Personally my favourite parts of fest are the rush of motivation to create (gotta earn those points!), the prompt tables (which have pushed me to write things outside of my comfort zone), and the sheer number of comments that all my writing gets (seriously I love all of your).

It's Next Chapter November!

Our challenge is quite simple this month: write your next chapter! Finish that artwork that's been stuck in WIP hell! Whatever it is, let us be your inspiration to make progress on your current project. For bonus accountability, share your progress with the community on WIP Wednesdays, regardless of what fandom it is for.

Festive Fanwork Fiesta is on the horizon

Signs ups for this year’s Festive Fanwork Fiesta will run November 16-30. During this fiesta, we send you three prompts and give you a week to create something. This will run for three weeks and it's your chance to give someone in the fandom a little gift as you fill a prompt which has been sitting on the prompt sheet for a while. Bond Book Readalong, Saturdays at 9pm ET

The longfic readalong crew is taking a break from fanfic to go back to the source material. We will be taking a couple months to read Diamonds are Forever. This is a proper detective novel full of diamond smuggling, Felix Leiter, and a really over-the-top bad guy. Not to mention our latest Bond girl: Tiffany Case.

We will provide a digital version of the text for you to follow along, but we also recommend seeing if your local library has a copy. We’d love to see you there. You are welcome to listen if you don’t or can’t read aloud!

It's Endings December!

Our challenge is quite simple this month: In this last month of the year, we're focusing on endings! This could be from a writing standpoint (the end of a chapter? the end of a fic?) or from a plot perspective (the end of a friendship? the end of a life?). Any other ending-centric ideas are welcome! Festive Fanwork Fiesta is starting!

Sign-ups for this year’s Festive Fanwork Fiesta ended on November 30. Now we have three weeks of fandom fun! It's time for our next quarterly theme!

What is this? Between each equinox we will have a different overarching theme. This time, our theme is Community. (This could be in-fiction community between characters, or a fandom community as you create rec lists of other people's works.)

How do I participate? Create new works, recommend old works! Art, stories, moodboards, drabbles, poetry, memes, anything goes! Whatever adheres to the theme. All you have to do is make a post, use the tag #Quarterly Theme, and include @mi6-cafe so that it shows up in our activity feed.

What's happening to monthly themes? They aren't going away entirely. Our perpetual favorites will stick around, but most months this year will focus instead on a creation form (character portraits, poetry, drabbles, etc) as a way to encourage people to get creative while still having the opportunity to create for the quarterly theme. Or to ignore the theme entirely and focus only on the format.

It's Juxtaposition January!

This year we are trying out quarterly themes, the first of which is Secondary Characters! Along with that, our monthly challenges will be more focused on a creation form than on a specific type of content (aside from perpetual favorites!). This month we ask you to create juxtaposition: a clear side-by-side contrast. This could be done in writing, visually, with podfic audio, with recommendations, or any other method! Just tag with #mi6cafechallenge and include @mi6-cafe so we can find it.

Quarterly Theme: Secondary Characters

Between each equinox we will have a different overarching theme. To start us off, it is secondary characters. This could look like creating things from secondary character POVs, centering secondary characters, recommending works about secondary characters, or anything else you enjoy! All you have to do is make a post, use the tag #Quarterly Theme, and include @mi6-cafe so that it shows up in our activity feed.

End of the Year Survey

As we have been doing since 2017, we have an end of the year survey which we hope you will all fill out to help continue to make this community as wonderful as it is. This is a chance for you to tell us what you liked, what you wished would change, and any other suggestions you have for the Cafe. Take as much or as little time as you want, but we really do value your feedback and use it to plan the next year. You have until January 17 to fill out the survey!

It’s You-MAY-Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Month! 

After a long week at MI6, the crew finally disperse into the city, needing to get away from Vauxhall. It’s up to you what they do! 

The fancreation prompts at each location are there to serve as your guides! If you want to get brownie points, you could include the physical location in your fancreation as well. Trace a route showing the Six Squad’s weekend plans, and if you’re looking for a finish line—well, they have to be back at work on Monday! You can use the roads to plan out a path of prompts, or hop on the tube to jump around in whatever order you like.

Maybe Eve needs to decompress by visiting museums, but she isn’t a Turner fan; maybe Bond takes a rare trip on the London Eye to remind himself why the stress is worth it and gets flirted with by a stranger (and then he gets distracted and goes to Savile Row). Perhaps Bill and Q go out for dinner and dancing, pretending like they don’t have far too much power in the world. And maybe Mallory finally found the time to take his nieces to the zoo, only to find himself helped by an unlikely animal companion.

How this works:

You sign up for a weekend on which you will post your rec list. The sign-up page is HERE! 

Your rec list should consist of at least 3 fanworks, 2 of which must not be your own. Tell us about the work and why you are recommending it!

Include the event banner art in your post. (You should be able to download it from the wordpress linked on the sign up page!)

Appreciation August

For  everyone who participated in 007 Fest, we hope you’ll take this month  to have a rest, drink some juice, eat a snack, and catch up on your  sleep. Fest drop can be a thing, so take care of yourselves!

And,  when you’re ready, it’s also a lovely time to catch up on some reading  and art from your fellow Fest participants and let them know what a good  job they did during 007 Fest. August is a great month for commenting,  reblogging, or even rec-listing your favorite fancreations that might  have gotten lost in July’s flood of content.
