#MHA chapter 431

It's not about the ship.

A majority of us BKDKs never believed the ship would become canon. That was never really on the table.

What it is about, is 10 years of character and relationship development completely nuked for the establishment of a different relationship that had faded into the background at best for a lot of that time.

Izuku and Katsuki are important to one another. There's zero denying that. Katsuki died for Izuku. All of his scars come from protecting Izuku in one way or another. Katsuki was devastated when he learned of OFA's loss. He worked for eight years to make sure Izuku could live out his dream.

Izuku has looked up to Katsuki since they were children. He lost the plot multiple times when Katsuki was insulted or in trouble. Shigraki himself said Katsuki was closer to Izuku than anyone else.

And all of that development brought us zero discussions about what they've been through. No talk about the impact of Katsuki's death. No talk of Katsuki's apology. No talk about Izuku's feelings about the demise of his dream. Instead, we got Izuku rejecting the idea of being partners with Katsuki, something his character for the entirety of the series would have undoubtedly loved.

Yes, people can grow apart. But show me that. Give me background on why. Give me something, anything that would explain why the Izuku at the end of the epilogue is in diametric contrast to the Izuku we saw at the end of chapter 430.

These two characters mean so much to me. I don't see myself in their story, but the love (whether platonic or otherwise) and care that they show for each other speaks to me so deeply. Katsuki's growth as a person and Izuku's acceptance of and willingness to forgive Katsuki no matter what speaks to me so deeply, and to see that thrown away stings.

It's not about the ship. It was never really about the ship.

what's done is done, here's the action plan now

When I open AO3 after a couple of weeks, I better find the bakudeku tag filled with fics where IZUKU is the one comforting Katsuki. Izuku doing the heavy lifting and being the more whipped one.

Don't care if its canon/post canon/ some other freaking AU, Izuku apologizing for his canon actions is the only medicine for the betrayal I'm feeling right now.

disclaimer: no hate towards anyone, I'm a multishipper myself. My point is that horikoshi should've made izuocha canon in any other way literally any other way The series was good for me despite its shortcomings cause

it had a strong msg in "you are a hero for more than your powers, because you work and dream for it"

ochako was more than a "romance lead", she did have romantic moments with izuku i wont deny it, but,

horikoshi had always kept it in balance with bkdk and even tddk moments, so i always thought horikoshi would keep the ending open.

The Izuku we know would go crazy at a chance to work with kacchan EVEN if he ends up romantically with Ochako, do ppl change so much in 8 years while their school crushes remain the same?

So please read this as me disapproving of the writing, and be kind to shippers who may be pissed off (the same applies to literally any ship)

With all respect to the creators of this series, if you have all the time and money in the world but you're not gng to take time to make the fans see why your characters are acting the way they are, then you kinda come off as not caring about it.

Sorry, again, for the lack of updates. I've gotten to that point in my life where after another day at work I just like the motivation or energy to do anything other than lay in bed and try to find my place in the universe. But after the MHA Volume 42 and the new extra chapter after the finale that's made to tie some loose ends and add some extra story, Deku and Uraraka finally getting together reignited my interest to take a pencil again.

As a multishipper, I didn't care who Deku ultimately ended up with. I just wanted him to be happy. So I'm glad everything's working out in the end.

Please, let's not fight. As always, if canon doesn't live up to your expectations, fanon is always there, but there's no need to crash out or complain or try to undermine anything just because you don't like or disagree with it. Let's just enjoy our favorite fandom together.

430 for me felt big and meaningful and HOPEFUL and 431 is like… lackluster. I don’t hate it, I see some people’s concerns with it for sure, but it just feels so BLAH. Like you, I really liked the openness of 439’s ending! There was hope!!! There was love!!! Izuku could still be a hero!! It was so good for me.

431 feels…unnecessary. I don’t know if it added much. There were other things I would have liked to have clarity on instead.

Meh. Really mixed feelings for me. But what I really loved is hearing how much Izuku LOVES teaching. He didn’t SETTLE for a job that was good enough. He’s genuinely loving his career and what he’s doing. And now that he’s able to be a hero with everyone too, he really achieved his dream!

I have to agree with you about Izuku loving teaching. It makes my heart happy. Teaching really fits his spirit. He's always been good with children and was supported the most by his teachers, it makes sense he'd love taking on the role for the future generation.

But like you said I feel like I would have liked this chapter to be a happy send off. A celebration. I understand what Hori was going for with getting a glimpse into the grief that remains as well as the perspective that the heroes have a chance to explore who they are outside of their work (I feel a lot of those emotions are probably what he's feeling as he finishes the series and he's channeling it...)

But this is the LAST chapter. We may never see these characters in a full canon setting again! It would have been nice to see them all off happily, maybe get a glimpse of them after they're all in a better place. Like show me Todoroki making chopsticks and leaving offerings at Touya's alter, show me Ochako finding peace from Toga's death and happiness beyond overwork, show me Bakugou doing guest lessons at UA to teach the cocksure kids like himself some humility, show me Deku's suit in action and what it's capable of, the power it can replicate, show me Izuku's new "I'm here!" moment, the reaction of the public to see him back in action, TOSHI'S reaction to him back in action. Show me Izuku visiting other schools to share his experience (I'm assuming what he shares is the narrative from his notebook, what we've read throughout the series but show me).

With a whole extra chapter it would have been nice to end on a warm note. 425 - 430 already struck the melancholy chord and then 430 ended with that hopeful note! It would have been nice to stay there. To say goodbye to these characters and see them in the midst of happiness, rather than struggling through a new journey to find it.

SPOILERS FOR THE CHAPTER 431 LEAKS

Okay so I’m not gonna talk about shipping here cause blah blah blah I don’t care, instead what I want to talk about is Bakugo’s ranking at #15 and why I think it makes sense for his character

So, in a way Bakugo needs Deku to truly shine, platonic, romantic, whatever, he needs that sort of rivalry with Deku. Almost all the moments where he really just explodes (pun intended) as a character is when he’s competing with Deku. The thing is at that point in the charts, Deku wasn’t on that rankings becuase- well he wasn’t a pro hero YET

I think now that Deku’s rejoining the game though that will ignite that sort of passion not only with him but also the citizens. They’re a duo, as I said platonic or not, their rivalry would match the rivalry that I think uplifted Endeavor into the ranks. Now don’t get me wrong I am NOT comparing Bakugo to Endeavor here (I think there is a parallel of sorts there but they are definitely not the same) because by himself? Endeavor isn’t that well liked, he’s mean, causes massive property damage, but if he’s competing with All Might people want to watch that, citizens are invested to see who comes out on top. I think that rivalry is what will make Lord Explosion Murder God Dynamight climb up those ranks.

I've thought about this, and talked it through with people. I'm bothered by it, because it makes no sense. But, let's fix it for my sanity.

Option one: this is a kind of promotional photo purely for aesthetics. Gloves fit his vibe in that sense. The whole phantom thief thing. He doesn't actually wear them during hero work. I don't really think this makes much sense though, because why would he have a photo that is different from his actual hero suit. Maybe he just... takes them off for fighting villains.

Option two: it's a Mirio kind of situation. The gloves are made out his own DNA, so there's not actually a barrier there. He can still copy quirks perfectly fine.

Option three: he can copy quirks through clothes now. It's a cool way to show how his power has grown, but I don't know if I really favour this idea.

I don't know where I saw it, if it was here or Twitter but someone said something about him taking the gloves off with his teeth and... well I decided I like the gloves.

Does it make sense? Not really. Can I make it work with my neurodivergent mind? Yes Does it look cool? Also yes.

He's all about serving cunt. He will go to great lengths to serve cunt.

It doesn't have to be canon for me to enjoy it. This blog will stay pretty consistent with how it has been for the past almost year now. MHA with an Izuku focus and a love for this ship. With other additions, so don't expect any changes from me. Other than more fics in the future. (The Bkdk big bang is coming out in the future as well so…😁). I may be slightly more vocal Abt my liking this ship but I feel like y'all could tell that b4 so?

Final notes: BKDK is still canon to me. Katsuki and Izuku are still my favs. 431 isn't real to me, idk what ur talking about? That's a non canon one shot for sure. Aus are my loves, and I won't let this bring me down. I'm actually vibing. Y'all the fics are so good. I may make a rec list fr. Many well wishes to you all, have a good day/night.
