“It’s not an action figure” might have been a more valid argument for this kit when it released but it’s RG version FAR surpasses the HG variant. And as far as articulation of model kits in general we are now blessed with the RG God Gundam, RG Hi Nu Gundam, RG Zeong, RG Nu Gundam, RG Impulse Gundam; all of which absolutely KILL the posing game so yea it’s so Very Very weird that the HG’s are just so….lackluster compared to what we got even a little later from its initial release.

This isn’t even to mention that the MG/MG ver Ka Unicorns ALSO suffer from the same issues. They even had to release a “anime ver” of the Ver aka bc the legs kept clashing with the armor preventing them from getting anything more that a 90 degree bend at the knee.

If I have to guess Bandai REALLY rushed the production of these kits initially bc Unicorns sell well or they just didn’t have the technology to really nail the moving parts and transformation. I’m leaning more towards a 60/40 split on that.

Anyway the RG is the better 1/144 and the MGEX is the better 1/100 but damn that things expensive

What a weird kit. I genuinely loved building the torso, arms, and legs around the Gundam’s Psycho-Frame. It was really cool and the result looks great, but my god what are these joints? I get this is slightly old by now, but they feel so limiting. Not to mention how the elbows start to come apart a little when moved a lot. And this kit was mostly reused for the high grade Phenex? A much more recent kit? That’s insane. I get it’s a model kit, not an action figure or something. It’s not meant to be moved a lot, it’s meant to be displayed, but putting a model in different poses is part of the fun of displaying them too.

Panel lining was left minimal. I only have the black fine liner to use and thought seeing that much black would be overwhelming for it.

I honestly don’t hate this kit, I like it even, but some of these design choices just seem baffling. It is a serious shame that the beam sabers and bazooka were left exclusive to the Unicorn Mode kit though. Would have been a nice option to have.

Last night I was going through my closet and I realized someone had given me a prebuilt HG 1/100 Master gundam and boy, this thing is ROUGH 😂.

Just look at this doofy ass face 😂

Ended up taking the head stickers off and painting the part around the eyes, sanded some nubs then I realized the head crest was glued back together and fell off. So ultimately I said screw it.

I still prefer my action figure from ‘02-03 😏

I would kill for Bandai to release an MG line of the shuffle alliance and the four kings. Some Ver Kas would be nice. Especially since master technically is a Ver Ka but a kit upgrade would be much appreciated.

And oh god if they ever do an MG 1/100 devil gundam, I will spend whatever they want just take my money! 😂

So for roughly five hours, I have finished the torso and the head units. So far, I'm liking the details. This isn't exactly my first time to build the MG strike having been able to build the Dragon Momoko as well as the two versions from Daban, the knockoff copy Aile Strike Ver. RM and the Strike Ver. RM with the Launcher and Sword packs that came in a white box(the sellers used to call it tikoy gundam). But the original Bandai kit is giving me the best build experience. Sure the nub placing weren't too strategic and the concept of undergating isn't a popular practice when they came out but with the plastic quality Bandai has, clean up is relatively easy. Good thing Nanye single-blade side cutter is handy with these, they sure don't compare with the God Hand but the result is still great. For now, let's call it a night. So before the festivities next week and the year ends, I figured I have to account my plastic model purchases, as well as other toy acquisitions.
