Cosplay thoughts under the cut.

My fifth cosplay in uhhh three(?) years, having only picked up a sewing machine in 2022. But hell, this the one I'm most proud of.

I had to rush making this one (as I do all my cosplays), but my work schedule meant the crunch was particularly bad this time, and there are still plenty of bits that I haven't finished. Note to self: don't ever attempt a costume this complex in 10 days again.

My to-do list looks something like:

Remake the armour on her arms (they kept getting ripped off in the crowds 😔)

Add more trim to the bolero, add hooks & eyes to keep it attached to the bodice

Make accessories (dragonstone, mini dragon!Rafal, pact ring)

Remake the collar (not at 1 a.m. the night before because I forgot about it, whoops)

Repaint and weather the armour so the details are more visible (using proper paint and primer this time, instead of PVA glue and "direct to metal" spray paint like an idiot)

Weather and add "dirt" to the battle-damaged skirts

Finish Represailles' blade and actually make the shaft. Once I move house I'll have a bit more space to work in, and I can start sanding/mayyyybe dremel it if the new place has a garden

Style wig with heat this time

Buy a mannequin so I can make alterations without accidentally sewing things to my own body 😭

That being said, for a boned corset, the bodice was actually super comfortable and kept everything in really well. I could wear it the whole day (and even run in it!) and it held up with zero discomfort or slippage.

If I can get it all sorted in time, with a bit of luck I'm hoping to enter her into the showcase at MCM/EGX this autumn...

Despite all the flaws, I'm super psyched to see how it came out, and the photographer did a great job! He made me feel like a million dollars (although the wind made it difficult to shoot and my feet were killing me the whole time, haha). Tbh I can't recommend him highly enough.

LONDON MCM!!!!!!!! i made exactly three locked tomb bracelets and then there were ten times that many cosplayers. oops

i wasnt the most proud of my cosplay this year, but thats motivation to add more Shiny Things to it for next year!! first con mostly by myself too, so finding the locked tomb meet was so fun and everyone was so niceys :3

mmkay cool bg3 stuff that has happened to me over the past year!

met mr neil newbon himself at birmingham mcm! extremely cool and chill dude and i was not at all losing my entire mind throughout :') very proud of myself for not just freezing up when he asked if I'd like a hug (can confirm that he gives good hugs)

went to the bg3 concert! And it was so wild because I had missed out on the tickets months ago so I kinda gave up on going but 3 days before the event, I checked the website on a whim and there was ONE!!! TICKET!!! up on sale. Absolutely fantastic music and they played legacy of bhaal which is one of my fav tracks from the game!

went to the bg3 BAFTA masterclass which was so so good as both a huge fan and a game dev. I learnt a lot, drank too much champagne, and got to speak to swen vincke, dave jones, and neil newbon again :D I also gifted neil a cross-stitch I made that's inspired by his bg3 char bow'ee and, ofc, astarion.

I was gifted a signing for my birthday and I managed to catch it live on stream! and this is why my tumblr name is flushwithdarlings c:

I've been making friendship bracelets for MCM London October 2024, I'll be there on the Saturday dressed as Seymour with my Audrey Two puppet from Littls Shop of Horrors. So come say hi for a bracelet!! These are very limited, ive made 30 of them

I'm going to have a very blunt boundary which is I ask that no one touches the puppet without asking. Its the first and only puppet I've made, I have no experience with making them. It's not as strong as it looks (it's also not as heavy as it looks). I probably won't let you hold it and I won't be letting anyone stick their hand inside for some reason simple reasons

1. It was made for my hand, as in the hold cut in the back of my head fits my fingers exactly. Even family can't get their hands in it. I can't risk this joint being damaged in anyway as to repair it I would need to take the puppet apart

2. I sweat a LOT. like a lot. I have anxiety, I will be sweating due to that, I will be sweating due to it being hot inside. The glove will be damp, the back of the head where your actual hand will sit, will probably be pretty wet. The end inside the head is the toe of a sock in polystyrene, basically keeping the heat in. You can be my guest but it will be gross. Even I don't like sticking my hand in there again when I've sweated a lot. Also makes movement with the puppet harder

I'm open for people taking photos and videos with permission. I'm also open to doing funny videos where the plants tries to eat you. BUT I will need to move the puppet around you to limit the puppet getting broken and you getting hurt. The teeth are pretty hard but they will break, they also have wooden cocktail sticks inside them. If someone rams something into its mouth, the teeth will snap. The moment they go, I'll probably have to just carry it and not be able to use it because it can hurt people.

I know I'm being overly wary, but I have had people break cosplays of mine at cons before. My outfit ripped one year because someone grabbed me. I sat in the loos sewing it up to make it through the day. I had another part of my cosplay broken because someone pulled on part of it quite hard. I also had someone say my prop looked good then smashed it against the wall because it looked stronger than it was and they broke it and they didn't expect it to crumble. The puppet will get damaged, I'm not stupid enough to think it won't, either during the day or on transport, but I'd love for it to make it through most of the day so I can have fun with it. I'm incredibly proud of my puppet, its not perfect, but it's mine and the first one I ever made.

It's been a long time since i felt like im going nowhere in life, but boy howdy today sure has those vibes

Is my art and writing even good? Why wont publishers take me, i know I'd work hard, and if anyone bought commissions I'd make them so pretty. I can't do a 9-5 it's too much on my psyche but am i just being entitled?

Mcm London comiccon didnt approve my October application. Do people not like my soap? Nobody buys it on my shop. Why do i keep investing in it.

Am i ever going to feel human around other people? Even with other neurodiverse folk i feel to alien to be really present.

C-ptsd. It sucks. Why did adult men hurt me so many times as a child.

I want to be an OCD warrior, but lately i just feel tired. OCD is a fire that won't stop burning and I'm out of water to douse it.

Im 28. I live with my parents and dont see myself independent any time soon. I think i want a partner but what if im lithromantic? Doomed to yearn but unable to ever have without hurting others? Is it actually gender ocd or am i in denial? I think i want kids but adoption has so many ways to hurt families and what if i hurt the kid with my own bullshit?

Im trying to stay realisticly positive but today is not a strong day for me.

I am proud of my efforts but im greedy and wish i had more to show for it.

Another Chainsaw Man piece I did for MCM- this time I took a shot at Makima! Might have bitten off more than I could chew with the perspective, but I'm still proud of how the overall picture came out!
