for today's poolverine-adjacent thoughts, i offer you: Major Character Death! please scroll past if you reasonably want to avoid this.

so most of the time i just ignore that logan is aging slowly while wade seems literally immortal, because most days i don't have the emotional bandwidth to deal with the implications. but i do have a longstanding soft spot for fic about grief and picking up after and finding ways to go on after having and then losing the love of your life. so sometimes i like to think about--they get a good two or three hundred years together, and it's the happiest either of them have ever been and they grow into and change each other and are so, so in love. and then logan dies.

and for a long time--decades--wade is just...not really in the world. sometimes literally (he spends a good eight years holed up in a cave mostly asleep, letting the sensation of starving to death become soothing white noise) and sometimes in the sense that he'll eat and get out of bed and maybe even find some kind of work to do, but he isn't there.

but eventually--because he is human, and this is what happens to humans--he connects with someone again. not in the same way (never the same way, it's never going to be the same) but he finds himself taking care of someone who needs help, or running into the same person often enough that he starts to respond when they try to start a conversation with him, or just--someone. somewhere. that buried rusting part of his heart creaks to life, the way he was sure it never would again.

and god, how badly i want a story about the slow agonizing process of coming back to life, realizing that despite knowing how it'll end, despite everything, he does still want to reach out and build that connection. and he can. his heart can do that, still. and how beautiful and horrible it is that he can feel this way again even though logan is gone. i want him to get to a place where he can tell his loved ones stories about logan, all those centuries of funny and sad and sexy and stupid stories they made together. and i want him to have that again, with someone else. and then someone after that, and after that, and forever.

The more I read about Primarchs, the more sorrow I feel for them. So many of them early on came to terms they are not ordinary humans and in truth tools for something greater, and yet they didn't know for what for the longest time.

Just the whole thing of being made into human and yet not fully human, being forced to accept your fate, while living among ordinary humans. Realising that's the life you are not meant to have and the feelings you can experience and yet cannot fully comprehend.

The fact that Primarchs were created to be perfect and live their lives among humans of various cultures and yet they truly only exist to serve the one purpose just hurts me to immense levels...

i do think it is legitimately very funny whenever someone tries to make the claim that lavabending is inherently a very slow subbending and therefore not good in a fight. specifically when using that argument against Bolin's skill as a bender.

Sure, I feel like in very specific instances with Ghazan that could be a fair argument to make. It takes him a moment to destabilize the Ba Sing Se wall and for him to kick up enough lava to destroy the airbending temple. (to the point I would argue that if Bolin had been versed in lavabending like he was in s4 he would have swept the ground with Ghazan), but in moments where he's actually in a fight his lava is incredibly quick.

Just the lava frisbee on its own is an incredibly quick move

But making that argument with Bolin in particular is absolutely batshit when outside of lavabending he is an incredibly quick fighter. I would say it is one of, if not the, most defining things about his fighting style. He moves very, very quickly and uncharacteristically agile for a earthbender. This is a known thing. Like

I am not the first person to say this but no other earthbender does backflips like he does. And THEN with lavabending he is just as quick if not more so

Bolin since season 1 has had an uncanny knack for bending incredibly fast, and his lavabending is no exception to that rule. It's honestly something that haunts my brain all the time because how quick he is with it low-key breaks the balancing? a little?? Like earthbending was always shown to be very strong but in turn it was slower than other types of bending, but with Bolin that doesn't really seem to be a hangup he has.

i love the prospect that in a post-war au, some humans are talking to coswave about words for s/o's and someone goes "huh, well in english we have a few, you guys just have conjunx or bonded, right?" and cosmos is like "💕💕🤭🥰yeah soundwave is my conjunx🥰🤭💕💕" and soundwave is like "affirmative ... 💕" but someone's like "oh, well we have husband, wife, spouse, partner there are probably more but those are the main ones" and soundwave's like "!!" and cosmos is like "oh, you like one?" and soundwave just echoes out in perfect monotone, "soundwave: cosmos' loving wife" and that's it because i think she deserves it

The emojis made me giggle way too hard hold on. Cosmos absolutely uses a downright atrocious amount of emojis it’s more emoji than text. Hold on gimme a second

I totally love the idea of post war Cosmos and Soundwave get conjunxed and Soundwave regularly lets Cosmos go with him on his trips to Earth. Naturally the discussion of marriage is brought up and Cosmos is way too happy to talk about how much he loves his Conjunx (Soundwave doesn’t talk much about his personal life to humans. Or anyone, really. But especially to the humans—there’s only one human he’d be comfortable with talking to about that, and he’s gone). Cosmos is like a sponge, he loves learning new things about different species and integrating it into his own life if he can. So naturally, when he learns about different terms of endearment and names for loved ones, he’s quick to adapt them to show his affection for his Conjunx (though, he doesn’t quite understand strict gendered terms. He immediately calls Soundwave his wife and refuses to be corrected by anyone).

Soundwave finds it very silly and charming. Cosmos tries out different pet names (honey, darling, sweetheart, baby) and some receive a giggle of amusement while others receive a crinkled nose of displeasure. Cosmos chooses pet names depending on how amused Soundwave gets when he’s called them (“darling” always gets a flare of amusement from his partner, as does “honey” and “lover”).

Soundwave doesn’t quite understand nor care for pet names, but if they make his Conjunx happy then he’s happy to accept the new nicknames.

Akashi on the mind (because who the fuck else lives in my head rent free) and I was just thinking about he's not only good at everything but he also makes everything look easy and that's why people feel comfortable putting so much faith in him/putting him on a pedestal. Especially because Akashi makes it so that he appears to have no weak spots when that could not be farther from the truth. It's all just an image to hide the fact that he's not perfect. But you know what? I think, for the sake of humanizing him, the rest of the KNB cast needs to see Akashi do something and struggle while doing it.

People need to be able to look at his face and feel like they can physically hear the gears turning in his head. I need him to attempt something and then everyone watches him space out for an extended period of time while he figures out how the fuck he's gonna actually do the thing. Let him be clumsy as he finds his way. Let him have a trial-and-error process. Let him be successful at doing something while still having the privilege of not getting it right the first time. LET HIM NOT BE PERFECT.
