Background: In attempt to produce the perfect child to continue his line, Faravel's father sought out a Dalish woman with a strong magic bloodline. After she birthed twins he stayed long enough to determine if either of them had magical talent. Faravel showed talent at the age of three, while his brother did not. Faravel was kept, but the mother and twin were abandoned in favor of raising and caring for Faravel exclusively. Faravel's father kept him removed from the rest of the world except to bring him to clan Lavellan's doctor. (These visits often caused him more damage than they did good, as this doctor was intent on not using any practices that humans commonly used in attempt to preserve the "purity" of the Dalish. This meant experimenting on Faravel in often very harmful ways. The doctor would pay Faravel's father.) Faravel was highly educated in elvhen culture, but taught exclusively what little elvhen language there was to know, and no common tongue. He was also taught magic, but his father wished him to focus on pyromancy. At about the age of ten, templars came for Faravel. In terror and knowing only fire magic, he accidentally began a forest fire that killed both templars and as he discovered later, his father as well. (The burn scar on his arm is from one of the templars grabbing him. The Templar's armored hand was extremely hot.) After the forest fire, clan Lavellan found Faravel and took him in. Lylan Lavellan, also parentless and only a couple years older, took a liking to Faravel and assigned himself as they boy's guardian. (Lylan promptly discovered the clan's doctor and his awful practices on Faravel, and informed the keeper. The doctor was kicked out of clan Lavellan.)
