Innovative Design Ideas to Elevate Your Restaurant
Owning a restaurant often brings a flood of questions to mind. What style should your restaurant, café, or bar have? How do you create interiors that are both attractive and functional? Can the infrastructure support your design aspirations? And, most importantly, how can you ensure profitability?
If these questions resonate with you, you’re not alone. Stepping into the realm of restaurant design reveals a world of possibilities and a newfound appreciation for well-thought-out spaces. To achieve the best results, consider partnering with interior designers specializing in restaurant interiors.
Meanwhile, here are some fresh ideas to make your restaurant stand out:
Design the external façade for maximum visibility
Incorporate a blend of covered and open ceilings
Seamlessly integrate indoor and outdoor spaces
Use flooring to define zones
Turn walls into storytelling elements
Enhance ambience with lighting and greenery
Strategically position the order delivery counter for efficiency
Let’s delve into these ideas in detail to inspire your vision.
1. Make the External Façade Unmissable
Your restaurant’s exterior is more than just an entryway; it’s an invitation. A well-designed façade acts as an extension of your dining experience and a visual advertisement. To ensure maximum visibility, align the façade design with your interiors and signage.
Consider smart outdoor lighting to highlight architectural features, illuminate signage, and brighten any outdoor seating. Keep the front transparent to showcase the interiors, drawing customers in while enhancing the overall appeal.
2. Rethink Ceiling Design
Choosing between a false or raw ceiling? Why not go for a creative combination of both? False ceilings may feel outdated, while entirely raw ceilings are often overdone. A mix of covered and open ceilings can add a unique touch to your space.
Covered sections help conceal services and reduce air-conditioning costs, while open grids or rafters lend character and provide easy access to utilities. This hybrid approach transforms the ceiling into a design statement.
3. Blur the Line Between Interiors and Exteriors
Opening up the restaurant’s front can visually expand the space and create a relaxed, inviting ambience. Use sliding or revolving doors that can be fully opened during pleasant weather, merging the indoor and outdoor areas seamlessly.
For added functionality, extend the bar or service counter outdoors. Install air curtains at the transition points to maintain air-conditioning efficiency and prevent condensation issues.
4. Create Zones with Flooring
Flooring is often overlooked, but it plays a vital role in shaping your restaurant’s vibe. Beyond functionality, it can add a playful or elegant aesthetic.
Use different flooring materials or patterns to define various seating and serving zones. Highlight main aisles with borders or patterns, or use vinyl stickers for storytelling or directional signage. Ensure that the flooring remains practical and safe while elevating the design.
5. Let Walls Speak for Themselves
Walls can tell a story—literally. Use them to share your restaurant’s journey, celebrate food, or convey inspiring messages. Typography, murals, decals, and wall art are great tools to make your walls visually engaging.
Contrast colours, exposed textures, and minimalistic treatments can enhance the aesthetics while keeping the space uncluttered, leaving room for creative décor.
6. Enhance the Atmosphere with Lighting and Greenery
Lighting and greenery are powerful tools for setting the mood. Warm lighting paired with greenery instantly boosts the visual appeal and creates an inviting atmosphere. While creating Instagram-worthy spots, prioritize energy-efficient solutions.
Incorporate plants, flowers, or even vertical gardens. Living walls not only make a striking visual impact but also improve air quality, enhancing the overall dining experience.
7. Optimize the Order Delivery Counter
Whether you’re opening a coffee shop, a QSR, or a deli, the location of the delivery counter requires careful consideration. It should be easily accessible, with a clearly defined aisle for smooth customer flow.
A single-line queuing system ensures fairness and efficiency. Visibility is key—positioning the counter strategically can significantly boost sales. Thoughtful planning of this element contributes to operational success.
Conclusion
Designing a restaurant involves countless choices, but incorporating these elements can ensure your space is both unique and functional. From maximizing visibility to crafting a cohesive ambience, these ideas can elevate your restaurant's appeal. For the best results, enlist the expertise of interior designers who specialize in restaurant design to help bring your vision to life.

Hierarchy
Pt 4 : Truth Or Dare
Y/n POV
Somehow, I found myself getting closer and closer to ryujin. Something that even shocked me. I was a nobody, I was a scholar, And even though ryujin was one of those privileged students, She didn't care to be friends with me. Day by day, My usual boring life was starting to shift. Ryujin alongside her friends would always ask me to go out together. Either eating at one of those luxurious cafes, Hanging out at the Large library, and even staying out at one of those PC bangs until late at night.
And without me realizing, I was getting closer and closer to some of the most privileged students here at jooshin high. One day, At the classroom. Ms. Han was teaching us about the ways people could play other people just by using their brain. The whole class was sternly listening to every word that comes out from Ms. Han's mouth. She explains that, One of human's biggest weaknesses is their ego. And we, as a student of Jooshin High, Must learn how to use that weakness, So that we can achieve whatever we want.
"This is how you'll earn your place at the highest level. This is how we can reach the hierarchy". Ms Han exclaimed.
As the materials were done. Ms sohee said her goodbyes, Before me and the rest of the class. We could finally take our lunch and have some time to relax. Ryujin immediately took a seat close to me, Alongside some of her friends such as Jimin, Minjeong, Yeji, and Chaewon. As they kept gossiping about the recent news and popular K-pop groups. Yeji murmured something out, Which was about the upcoming Birthday party of the Top students at Jooshin high, Which was none other than Park So-hyun.
I was hesitant at first, A large event such as this was a very new experience for me. I mean, I don't know what I should do, What I should bring, Or what I even need to go for. However, Ryujin kept begging me. As she playfully teases me, Making me blush like crazy. As I tried my best to reject her offer, Ryujin and her friends kept teasing me, And in the end, I found myself accepting their offer.
Small Timeskip
As D-Day is coming up. I was nervous as ever, I wasn't sure if my clothes were that proper. I mean, I don't even know what the dress code for this party was. All ryujin said was to wear something nice. How the fuck should I know, What's nice for them and what's not nice for them. Haishhh... It's frustrating asf. But nonetheless, I tried to wear something proper. So I decided to wear a casual piece of suit. With a nice white cotton shirt.
As I looked at myself in the mirror, I could only think about what sort of crazy thing would happen today. After getting done with myself, I waited for my transportation. Which was provided by ryujin. I don't know why, But this privileged student didn't really bother to buy or rent their friends some expensive lifestyle. I mean, She rented me a fucking limousine. Just for myself. Like what in the actual fuck. I'm all alone. Why the fuck would you rent me a fucking limousine? Nonetheless, I immediately got inside the limousine, before the driver drove me to the designated spot.
I could look outside my window, The huge palace that was none other than So-hyun's home. The place was huge, Filled with many abstract statues, and trees. The anticipation was palpable as I approached the grand mansion, its facade bathed in a soft, golden glow. Ryujin had been raving about the party So-hyun's was throwing, promising a night of endless fun and extravagance.
As I stepped inside the mansion, I was greeted by a breathtaking sight. The interior was adorned with lavish decorations, each room a masterpiece of opulence. It was clear that So-hyun, the queen bee of Jooshin High, had spared no expense.
Ryujin, beaming with pride, welcomed me and introduced me to her friends. I was surprised to see Wonyoung again, the girl I had met at her family's home, where I had played the piano for them. I hadn't seen her since that day, and I couldn't help but feel a strange mix of excitement and apprehension.
As the night wore on, the party reached a fever pitch. Music blared, laughter filled the air, and people danced with abandon. Ryujin and her friends urged me to join them, offering me shots and a small dose of drugs. I had never done any of these things before, and I was hesitant to try them. But with their encouragement, I reluctantly agreed.
As I took the shot, a wave of warmth washed over me. I felt a sense of euphoria, a carefree abandon that I had never experienced before. The drugs seemed to amplify my senses, making everything feel more intense, more alive.
Wonyoung, meanwhile, had retreated to a secluded area with So-hyun. I watched them from a distance, their faces etched with a mixture of guilt and longing. I knew they were struggling with something, but I couldn't quite figure out what it was.
As the night progressed, I became increasingly tipsy. Ryujin and her friends decided to play Truth or Dare with me, their laughter echoing through the room. I was game for anything, my inhibitions loosened by the alcohol.
When it was my turn, Ryujin dared me to "kiss the person who you think is the hottest and prettiest in this party." I hesitated for a moment, my mind racing. I knew that Ryujin was hoping I would choose her, but my heart was elsewhere.
I walked slowly through the crowd, my eyes scanning the faces around me. Then, I saw her. Wonyoung was sitting alone in a corner, her eyes filled with sadness. Without hesitation, I walked over to her and kissed her.
The room fell silent. Everyone stared at us, their eyes wide with shock. So-hyun's face was a mask of confusion, while Ryujin's expression was one of betrayal.
I pulled away from Wonyoung, my head spinning. I realized what I had done, and I felt a wave of guilt wash over me. I had betrayed Ryujin, and I had humiliated myself in front of everyone.
Wonyoung looked at me, her eyes filled with a mix of anger and hurt. "H-how could you?" she said, her voice barely a whisper.
I tried to explain, to tell her that I didn't mean it. But the words wouldn't come. I was too ashamed, too embarrassed.
As I turned to leave, I felt a hand on my shoulder. It Was Wonyoung. "Wait," she said. "We need to talk."
I followed her to a secluded part of the mansion. We sat down on a couch, facing each other.
"What The Fuck were you thinking," Wonyoung said. "Why The Hell would you kiss me in front of everyone"??
"I-i'm S-sorry" I answered with guilt on my shoulders.
Wonyoung took a deep breath. "What Would Happen if Everyone started to Shipped You & I together." Her voice stern and full of anger.
My heart shnked like the Titanic. I couldn't believe it. I was so stupid and drunk, That I kissed one of the most powerful students in Jooshin High. What would happen to me now.
"Now what are we gonna do?" Wonyoung asked, her voice trembling.
"I-i Don't know.. I-i'm sorry",I answer. "I was drunk as hell wonyoung... I-I didn't mean to".
"But why me?" She asked. "Why do you kiss me and not anybody else"??
"I-i Don't know," Y/n said. "I'm sorry. I was just so... lost. I didn't know what come over me"
As wonyoung and I came back from the secluded area, the air and atmosphere gets more and more intense. People were staring at us. I can only hope that luck was by my side. I hoped that nothing bad would ever happen to me. I just wished that all of those eyes stopped staring at me. As I thought I was gonna be suffocated by the amount of pressure. Someone started to walk in our direction. The sound of the elegant high heel shoes was all that I could hear.
That is until, That person approaches me, before kissing me. I was shocked, I was flabbergasted. Because that person is none other than, So-hyun. The whole crowd immediately stopped partying, As they were shocked at the sudden move. All of the students immediately let out their phone, Before they took pictures and video of me and her. What is going on. What game am I currently being played at. What's gonna happen to me.
To be continued

On May 18th 1939 the Cosmo cinema in Rose Street, Glasgow opened its doors for the first time.
The Cosmo cinema was the first purpose-built ‘art-house’ cinema to open outside of London. Designed as the flagship for the Singleton chain (which also included the Mecca, Riddrie and Kingsway cinemas in Glasgow), this 850-seater was prolific cinema architect James McKissack’s final design before his death.
The foyer was originally double-height, with twin staircases leading to the balcony. Payboxes were situated to both the left and right, between the two sets of entrance doors. A small kiosk was situated at the back of the foyer, which was panelled in walnut. A large globe, set above the main rear stalls entrance, reinforced the international nature of the films being shown. A large cloakroom and luxurious ladies powder room were also provided. The cinema was advertised under the slogan 'Entertainment for the Discriminating’, with the cartoon character of the bowler-hatted Mr Cosmo, a familiar sight in newpaper advertisments of the time.
In 1968, the foyer was dramatically altered to become single height, and a new bar was incorporated over it, in a style that matched the restt of the interior decoration very well. Part of one of the twin staircases was also removed at this point.
In 1973, the Cosmo was bought by the Scottish Film Council, who undertook major structural alterations. The auditorium was split, to form a large single screen upstairs, with the balcony extended fully forward and a new proscenium constructed.
Much of the original decoration was retained, including the central light feature nicknamed Mr Cosmo’s bowler hat. Renamed the Glasgow Film Theatre - or as it’s better known - the GFT - the building reopened to the public in May 1974. At this time, the stalls space was used as an conference and exhibition area. In 1986 the GFT became independent of the SFC, and in 1988, the building was B Listed by Historic Scotland.
In 1988, part of the original stalls space was converted into a second screen, and the rest into a cafe-bar, which in a nod to the cinemas past was named Cafe Cosmo.
Despite strong competition from the nearby UGC / Cineworld , the GFT is thriving, and is without doubt the most pleasant place in Glasgow to go see a film on the big screen. I must admit to only having visited once, but was impressed by it’s ambience and the feel of the place.
The GFT may not be of a great age but it is now the oldest active cinema in the city.

Thermal Curtains for Cafes: A Stylish Way to Keep Guests Warm Year-Round
When it comes to creating the perfect ambiance for your café, temperature and comfort play an essential role in ensuring that guests feel welcome year-round. One simple yet effective way to achieve this is by incorporating thermal curtains into your café’s décor. Not only do these curtains provide functional benefits, but they can also enhance your café’s aesthetic appeal, contributing to a cozy, inviting atmosphere. In this article, we’ll dive into the benefits of thermal curtains, how they can help maintain a comfortable space for your patrons, and why they’re the perfect addition to any café setting.
The Importance of Temperature Control in Cafes
Cafés are spaces where customers come to relax, meet friends, work, or enjoy a warm beverage. Whether you’re serving coffee in the middle of winter or iced drinks during a summer heatwave, ensuring that your customers are comfortable is key to creating a positive experience.
Temperature fluctuations in cafés can make or break the atmosphere. Too hot, and guests may feel uncomfortable and rushed to leave. Too cold, and they won’t want to linger. Whether you’re dealing with cold drafts from old windows or harsh sunlight, managing indoor temperature can significantly impact both guest satisfaction and your energy bill.
How Thermal Curtains Help
Thermal curtains work by regulating the temperature inside your café. These curtains have several benefits that make them an essential part of your décor and functionality strategy.
Insulation During Winter As the weather turns colder, winter drapes offer essential warmth by blocking cold air and preventing heat from escaping through windows. This keeps your café warmer without relying on constantly running the heater, which can become costly. By retaining indoor heat, thermal curtains help create a cozy environment where guests can escape the chill and stay longer.
Heat Protection in Summer On the flip side, heat blocking curtains work during the warmer months to prevent sunlight from directly streaming into your café. These curtains reflect sunlight, helping keep the space cool and reducing the load on air conditioning systems. With these curtains, your café remains a cool haven even in the hottest weather.
Energy Efficiency Both thermal curtains and insulated curtains contribute to reducing your energy consumption. By keeping the heat in during winter and the heat out during summer, these curtains improve energy efficiency, helping you cut down on heating and cooling costs.
Aesthetics and Functionality Combined
While thermal curtains are undeniably practical, they can also add to the style and charm of your café. Choosing the right fabric, texture, and design can make a significant difference in how the space feels.
Rich Fabrics for a Cozy Feel: Materials like velvet, wool, and heavy linen not only add to the insulation properties of the curtains but also bring a sense of luxury and warmth to the café. These fabrics are perfect for a café that aims for a more intimate, comfortable atmosphere.
Light-Reflective Fabrics for a Modern Look: For cafés with a minimalist or modern design, heat blocking curtains in light colors or reflective fabrics can keep the space bright while maintaining its coolness during the heat of summer.
Complementary to Interior Design: Curtains often serve as statement pieces in café design. By selecting curtains that complement your overall theme — be it rustic, vintage, or contemporary — you can enhance the visual appeal of the space while simultaneously providing temperature control.
Placement: Where to Install Thermal Curtains in Your Café
To maximize the benefits of thermal curtains, it’s important to strategically place them in areas where temperature control is needed most. Here are a few key spots to consider:
Windows with Exposure to Direct Sunlight: Install winter drapes or heat blocking curtains on windows that get direct sunlight during the day. This will prevent heat gain in the summer and block out cold drafts in winter, keeping the space comfortable.
Entry Points and Doors: Exterior doors often lead to significant heat loss or gain. Insulated curtains over entryways can act as an additional barrier, keeping the indoor temperature consistent.
Seating Areas Near Windows: Customers love window seats, but these areas are often subject to drafts or direct sunlight. Installing thermal living room curtains in these areas can create a more comfortable seating experience, especially in cold or hot weather.
Beyond Temperature Control: Other Benefits of Thermal Curtains in Cafes
In addition to temperature regulation, thermal curtains provide other advantages for café owners:
Noise Reduction Sound insulating curtains can also help reduce noise in a café, especially if your establishment is located in a busy urban area. By absorbing sound, these curtains create a quieter atmosphere, enhancing the overall experience for guests who want to relax, read, or work without distractions.
Privacy Cafés often have large windows that expose the interior to the public eye. Insulated curtains can offer much-needed privacy, especially in the evenings when the café transitions from a bright, open space to a more intimate, cozy environment.
Durability High-quality thermal curtains are durable and built to withstand regular use in a café. Whether it’s frequent opening and closing or exposure to sunlight, these curtains can last for years, making them a worthwhile investment.
Real-Life Example: How Thermal Curtains Transformed Café Atmosphere
Consider the example of Café Willow, a local coffee shop in a busy metropolitan area. The café had issues with fluctuating indoor temperatures and noise from the street. After installing insulated curtains over their large storefront windows, the difference was immediately noticeable:
Increased Customer Satisfaction: The café’s patrons no longer complained about feeling too hot or cold, even during extreme weather. Customers now enjoyed their drinks comfortably, regardless of the temperature outside.
Lower Heating and Cooling Bills: By reducing reliance on HVAC systems, the café owner was able to lower energy bills, keeping costs down and profits up.
Enhanced Ambiance: The elegant velvet curtains added an upscale, cozy feel to the space, complementing the café’s rustic design and attracting more guests who were seeking a relaxing environment.
Final Thoughts: The Perfect Addition to Any Café
Thermal curtains are more than just a functional piece in a café; they serve as an essential component of creating a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. Whether you’re trying to keep your guests warm in the winter or cool in the summer, heat blocking curtains and insulated curtains offer an elegant and practical solution. These curtains also contribute to reducing your energy costs, preserving your furniture, and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of your café. By thoughtfully incorporating these versatile curtains into your space, you can create a year-round haven where patrons feel comfortable, relaxed, and eager to return.

Hey, peeps! You might've noticed it was my birthday a couple days ago! Today is when we actually went out to celebrate that. One reason for which is that my sister, who lives out of state, was also vacationing with her family at this time. She and they are staying at the new Cartoon Network Hotel, and since Cartoon Network and its programming are something near and dear to my heart (much like my sister), I decided to document a few bits of it that I could~
Now, if you've seen the Defunctland episode on the Nick Hotel, this is pretty similar to that in concept. (And if you haven't seen it, it's worth a watch!) Though technically this one is in reverse: It was a freestanding motel and building that got refurbished to add the Cartoon Network branding, while the Nick Hotel eventually un-branded and de-furbished down into a generic hotel. Still, kind of a ful place to stay! Here's the front entrance, with a cool Finn and Jake sculpture outside, along with the iconic CN logo~
Here's a couple of freebie items they had available. The main motel rooms are a separate building, with the exception of the main luxury suites, which are upstairs in the main building. Even with just a cartoony layout rather than an actual map, this is roughly how the main building was laid out. I also picked up that business card because Finn was on it~
Big lobby with blocky furniture, including that exact couch with the one stripey seat. To the left is the elevator that goes up to the second level, which has a big video display that shows various characters getting on and off the elevator. Past that is a We Bare Bears themed cafe, while all the way to the back (not depicted) is a larger cafeteria. On the right there's the store, which has some merch available (but not much). The Toon Room is basically a wide hallway with big artwork of various shows, and to the back right is a small Ben 10 themed arcade with some basic games and claw machines.
Places like this, though, it's all about the theming!
Outside the cafe, there's some framed art pieces from various shows. Naturally, I had to take a couple pics of those~
Here's the cafe's signage, as well as a couple of the retro-style games they had in here instead of the more modern ones they had in the Ben 10 area. I have a friend who'd really appreciate these, so I had to get a pic. On the left is Frogger, then a Pac-Man thing, and lastly a Scooby-Doo pinball table. You can also see some of the wall art that appears throughout the building.
There's the store. (There were some customers inside, so I didn't get any interior shots.) Mostly it's a lot of shirts and hats with various character logos (none in my size, either), some water bottles, magnets, and other stuff with the Cartoon Network Hotel logo, some plushies (mostly picked clean by the time I got there), and a smattering of Funko Pops. It was a little disappointing. They don't even have any DVDs or books from their various franchises for sale, which I think is a huge missed opportunity.
I also got a shot of one of the walls in the Toon Room, which I think is where the meet-and-greets happen as well. Since this was about the only Gumball thing I saw, I had to give it the respect it was due.
It is a luxury hotel, though, so there's a pool! There's two pools, in fact, an outdoor and an indoor one. Similar to the statuary out front, the kidie pool also has some cool sculptures of the Powerpuff Girls (in their 2016 reboot designs, but we'll forgive that). I couldn't not get a pic of them~
Lastly, this is an art piece inside my sister's actual room. Each room is themed for a different show, and naturally she went for an Adventure Time room. The rooms are pretty small, but each one has a twin bed for adults and a set of bunk beds for the kids. The bunk beds each even have their own TVs mounted at the ends, to facilitate more cartoon-watching. Pretty nice setup!
Now we're at the end! So here's the main complaint I have. Obviously, as someone who just turned 38, I may be out of the target demographic for this particular resort. But still! I think the hotel theming is great. Everything's in bold colours with a lot of character artwork. And naturally, they're going to want to promote their most popular franchises! Makes sense! The suites (both the luxury suites and the smaller ones) are all themed around either Adventure Time, Powerpuff GIrls 2016, Ben 10 (the reboot version), and Steven Universe. We Bare Bears also gets some rep here and there.
Like, this might shock you (and possibly relieve you), but there is scarcely anything related to Teen Titans Go (other than wall art, there was a single Robin plush left in the store). Craig of the Creek is basically represented just through that map I showed earlier. Summer Camp Island has a VR game. OK KO, Mao Mao, and Gumball basically just appear on the wall art. Gumball, Darwin, Jake, and Ben 10 are the only costumed walk-around characters I was able to confirm exist (they basically told my niece she probably wouldn't get to meet the Powerpuff Girls).
And that's about it! It's very specifically the most popular stuff from the last decade or so. Which, again, given the demographic, makes sense. I just think they coulda put in for the nostalgia crowd as well. At least, like, a big timeline showing some of the older stuff. Some art of Dexter's Lab or Johnny Bravo somewhere. The Toon Room also does screenings of cartoons and movie nights and stuff, and my sister reported they showed the 2002 Powerpuff Girls movie the previous night. So maybe there is some hope! I just didn't see anything. If they sold some DVDs of their shows or even, like, just a sticker pack of OK KO characters, I woulda been all over that~

Alright, I want your opinions. Entertain me if you please! 1. Do you think German liners beyond Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosser and Bremen/ Europa don't get enough recognition for all their (especially) luxury "firsts" (elevator, cover charge restaurant, winter gardens, lidos, those Vienna Cafes)? 2. What era of liner decoration is your preferential movement? And a prime example of this for you would be? 3. Conte di Savoia's Salone Colonna - Beautiful room, but in the wrong ship and they just should have gone full modern with Rex being a wonderful period piece against it? Or do you think it was right do a Lloyd's of London/Bowood House arrangement? *sorry*
1. I do think that the German liners tend to be unfairly overlooked. I think people tend to focus a bit too much on Cunard and White Star. Don't get me wrong, I adore them and their ships, but I think other lines and countries deserve some more attention. I'm particularly a fan of the Imperator class of ocean liners.
2. My favorite era would probably be the Edwardian/ pre-war stuff. My favorite is probably a tie between the Olympic, Oceanic, and Mauretania. Other examples include The Big Four, Lusitania, and the plans for what the Britannic would have looked like had she survived the war. A close second would be the art deco ships, but I'm specifically referring to the Cunarders here. I'm really not a fan of the Normandies interior design, for example. In terms of the exterior of ships, I would say my favorites are from 1930 to the mid-50s. My favorites are the MV Georgic, Bremen, the planned but unbuilt RMMV Oceanic, and SS United States. The Big U definitely has my favorite exterior.
3. I do think it would have been nice for the Rex to contrast the Conte di Savoia (especially considering the Rex was the last ocean liner that had a clipper stern), but it's also important to remember that they were originally being built by two different companies and intended to be rivals. They became running mates purely by accident when the companies merged. I'm not sure how far along in the building process they were when the merger happened, but I wouldn't be surprised if they just didn't think it would be worth it to swap around the interior decor after installation.
4. Why are you apologizing? I love questions like these! Thank you so much!
