so I've spent the last almost 6 hours watching 🦋 and Lucy have the time of their lives both watching the aurora and being so so nerdy about it and holy shit it's been incredible.

astronomy is one of their special interests but I get access to basically none of that knowledge so I get to listen to them infodumping and they're so enthusiastic and excited

#personal #thoughts #🍬 post #happy posting #2024 #posts made on pain meds #watching the aurora was absolutely incredible #but also seeing how excited they are and how excited a bunch of other people in the system are is also incredible #Lucy especially is very excited because this is one of those things they'd desperately wanted to see for years #and as a teenager they checked the space weather every day and checked every time there was a geomagnetic storm but never saw it #and now it's like oh okay here's one of the biggest ones on record #and an aurora pretty much directly overhead that's bright enough for us to see the structure and the way it dances in the sky #we'd always assumed if we ever did see it here it would be a faint glow in the distance
