Kyungseok feels the power in hard punch landing into the training pad. The sharp inhale of breath, a blink of an eye, everything slows down right here. It's a familiar calm, that same focused void that he reaches for when he pulls the bowstring back. His heart beats, beats, beats. In a similar rhythm, Sangwoo lands another punch and Kyungseok takes that opportunity to swipe at him. Rhythm, falling into step with one another. A dodge, a sharp punch, a jab and Kyungseok follows through with each one. POW! POW! POW!

& then the world catches up and they both step away, calling time. The ring where they stand sits in one of the few training rooms that Cerberus has set aside for their EOs to take full advantage of. The smell of sweat seems to permeate through the walls despite how thorough the cleaning crew is. Kyungseok didn't mind it, it clicked something in his brain that geared his body towards the workout. They had to remain in peak physical condition — for some of them, that was a matter of life and death. No one else was here, they had the whole place to themselves. Sweat dampens his hair, dripping slick down his torso, the curve of his spine. They've been at this for hours. He breathes in heavy, chest burning and his muscles warm with exertion.

Kyungseok removes the padded glove around his hand and swipes his hand through his hair. Quickly, he grabs up one of the towels and wipes at his face. His shirt had been taken off somewhere in that first hour. ( & in these bright lights, their bodies slick with sweat, they gleamed. ) It feels good though. That soresweetsore burning, the ache that settles somewhere in the bone. He feels like he hasn't had a moment to actually work himself into a sweat in a while. ( well. here, in the training facility, he hasn't. there are more than one ways to get sweaty. ) There's a laugh as he hands the water bottle over to Sangwoo. "Christ, a little fire packed into that last one." He flexes his hand and gives it a shake, more dramatics than actual pain. It took a lot to hurt him.

"And here I thought you liked me. What's all that, huh? You seem to have something more on your mind than simply going through the motions."

Ever since the shit show of the Gala, Malakai may have taken it upon himself to do daily recon around Cerberus Corp. Just the usual, keep an eye out for anything suspicious, out of the haps or even gathering some entail from the little chit chats he'd hear around. It was always good to be in the know. Yet he knew that all the Agents were more than likely on their best damn behaviour or some crap like that, protect the image of the company or some corporate crap. Nope, even the thought of large corporations was making him feel queazy.

For his mini side quest, this time he kept it low-key, black hoodie and dark jeans. The only thing bright about him was his freshly dyed pink hair. He was a new year, new look kinda guy, always a chance to keep the look fresh. But at least it was not the bright pink suite that Ampi was still chewing his ear off about. Like it was his fault he looked good in the suit and the dramatic mask made a statement. A good looking statement. However, he was going to be a good boy and not draw attention to himself. New Year's Resolution...one that he knew that he was going to break sooner than later.

Recon so far was quiet...maybe it was the timings he picked. His first time slot was a little after breakfast rush and a little before lunchtime rush and his second slot just before evening rushes. Perfect times when Agents would be stuck at their desks having their mandatory breaks, so he could roughly guess the spots he didn't want to be seen. All about being lowkey, right? Being lowkey was hungry work after all. Malakai looks at his phone. Yeah...yeah he could call it a break. Even if he worked for 5 minutes. Apart of his Vigilante task, he was the one that made the rules. When Ampi wasn't around a least. Still he was a free soul and called for a little pick me up.

He stood in line with about three or four people ahead of him. Standing in line for the best place in the world. The people before him were stood before one of the greatest Agents that Cerb Corp could be blessed to have in their ranks. Forget the oh so greats of Hades, Granite, Ymir, Loveshot, Flare or Whirlpool. Nahh forget about them! This legend was were it was really at, Agent Cupcake. He was the one who kept it real. The only agent, Malakai had respect for! And maybe some merch...like a keychain or fanmade Funkopop...and the really creative gods of Etsy. Malakai finds himself bouncing up and down in line. You know totally keeping his chill.

One person now ahead of him in the queue. He was totally chill. The inner fanboy in him was chill. Unlike before, he had rehearsed his reply a few times in the mirror. Hands in the pocket, light nod with a 'Sup', make an order, pay his respects with a thank you....and maybe....just maybe get a handshake or a little salute. Oh heck yeah, that would be awesome. Stay cool and lowkey. All that Malakai had to do.

Then it was his turn in line. And he stood their frozen. Taking him a few moments to realise that he was next to be face to face with his all time favourite hero. Shaking it off, he muttered to himself,"C'mon Kai, chill and lowkey, chill and lowkey." He tells himself over and over like mantra. Shoving his hands in his pockets and when his eyes locked on Emilio his inner fanboy took over, "Ahhh hey!" he squeals out.

And game over...New Year's Resolution broken.

They have to try. Kyungseok scoffs. What was trying going to get you? ( You can try to be a good son. You can try to be a good brother. You can try to meet every little expectation of what good means but it will always leave you lacking because it is never enough. ) What does wanting get you for that matter? You could want to save the world, you could want to never hurt anyone, you could want to be good — but at the end of the day, Kyungseok has only ever found that wanting never becomes having. He could want to be good — but didn't meant he ever would be. Why waste the mental energy?

Why try to define the ache in his chest when he knows it'll never be satisfied? Why have the name of what you're missing tucked beneath your tongue and red seeping into your words? Why do that yourself?

"How are you defining good, Cass? By doing good by other people? If you stick with that line of logic, you're siding with vigilantes who cause more of a problem. Good is ... subjective." That was evident by the two of them standing there. They were both good heroes and both had very different ideas of how good defines that hero. Literally a hero. Kyungseok knew that, his face is plastered across news headlines with every other Level I who were all literally heroes. He sighs, a full exhalation that drops his shoulders, deflates his chest.

& it goes quiet. If he listened carefully, if he focused, he could almost hear the steady rhythm of Cassian's heart. It's like a whisper between the veils, something just out of his heart. For a second, he closes his eyes. ( It takes longer that it should to hear, the muffled dark pressing against his eardrums as an unkind reminder of sacrifice and what being a hero means. ) The whorl of blood & muscle mechanics suddenly overwhelmed by Cassian's voice. Somewhere, Kyungseok knows he shouldn't latch onto it like an anchor but he does.

God help him but he does.

Kyungseok licks his lips, pausing on his reply. "... If I had the chance." He shakes his head slowly. "What else would there be for me? Cerberus ... I've spent over a decade being Loveshot. I don't think I could just walk away ... not without losing all of that. I've got too much responsibility here to just walk away." He reaches over and puts his hand on Cassian's shoulder. "I have to pull your ass out of the fire, don't I? Who else would do it? What about you? Am I going to wake up one day and see that Whirlpool is no longer part of Cerberus?"

          he allows himself a moment of contemplation, because if he doesn't then he's going to lob a very inarticulate insult at kyungseok.  cass takes one last drag of the cigarette, then condenses the moisture in the air into the smallest amount of water to put it out.  a party trick, really, but it's a simple use of his powers that still requires a modicum of concentration.  they don't understand kyungseok as well he seems to understand them; nearly everything he's said has been, in one way or another, an attempt to sooth his wounds, while cassian has only succeeded in... in what  ?  

          these days, success seems further and further away.  he doesn't reach for it in the same way kyungseok does.  no desire to win, only a yearning to give back.  he died, came back, and decided that the only way he can repay whichever force gave him life is to rewrite it with so much love that he won't be able to see beyond it. 

          "     i know i can't save everyone.  but i also know that i have to try.     "     his mother whispers to him in the dark:  do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can.  her eyes glisten when she remembers him drowning on a bright, happy day, but her hand is warm against his chest when she tells him that he is a hero.  that he must use this chance, this gift he's been given, because that's what will make life not just bearable, but beautiful.

          "     why are you so adamant that you aren't a good person  ?  you're literally a hero.  loveshot is more than a costume.     "     but even cassian can hear the lie in that.  whirlpool is nothing more than a mask, a puppet for cerberus to parade around.  cassian doesn't mind meeting kids, but god the commercials and the posters...  it's a little humiliating, a little ridiculous when he doesn't have the face or personality of the celebrity hero they're trying to get him to be.  he manages to swallow what little pride he has and show up anyway, because without cerberus' support, he wouldn't be able to do what he does.

          then, after a beat of silence that grows too heavy:     "     if you had the chance, would you leave  ?  pack it up and go somewhere else  ?  shed the cerberus name  ?     "

You said that sm froze exo's projects. But when it comes to promoting them individually we see a huge difference. SM is promoting everyone but Ksoo. It has been on hiatus from 2019 until now. That idiot manager when it was Ks' solo time disappeared and just came back now. It is clear that Ks is being "excluded" from the group. It's a SM move so when his leave news is confirmed there is no damage.

She had walked up numerous flights of stairs, after parking the getaway car inconspicuously around the corner. She tutted at the sight of dead, bleeding bodies scattered around the stairwells. She made sure to step around the blood and the arms and legs that stuck out beneath their bodies as they had little to no time to prepare to die.

Sehun, albeit the youngest was the most malignant.

She reached the 20th floor, the floor they had figured out from weeks of planning had the best vantage point for their operation. The door was open and lying in the center was surprise, surprise another dead security detail. She knew people didn’t understand, maybe she was mentally ill but he turned her on so much when he killed. It was by far no sexual act and by far not the best but it never failed to steer them both into bed after a good day.

“Could you stop, I don’t know, murdering people for fun?”

Sehun looked over his shoulder from where he was crouched near his latest victim, careful not to step into the pool of expanding blood. He picked up the bullet shell just like he was taught and smirked at her as she came into the room.

“Set up by that window.” He gestured to the open, window directly in front of her.

She ran her tongue over her teeth, crossing her arms over her chest in a teasing manner. “Joonmyeon wouldn’t approve.”

Sehun stood up to his full height and didn’t miss the playfulness in her tone. “There’s a lot he wouldn’t approve of.”

She shook her head at him, crouching down under the smashed open window to set up her tripod. Sehun tucked his body just beside the window, careful not to be seen. He looked down at her, the forever present wicked look in his eyes making her feel some kind of way.

She ignored him as well as the tension in the air while she placed her rifle top of her steady tripod, aiming it down at the building next door. She closed her eye staring down into the binocular, counting the apartment windows till she was at the right one.

“You see anything?” Sehun asked after a minute.

She held her body steady in her crouch and side eyed him as he moved to crouch next to her. She adjusted herself onto her knees as she tried to find her target.

“Give me a chance.”

“We only have 10 minutes.” Sehun pressed.

“Do you doubt me?”

“No. But I’m sure he’ll be wondering why they haven’t heard off the security in this buildi--”

“I have her.”

She narrowed her eyes focusing on the pretty female at the poolside. She blinked and took a breath, her finger tensing on the trigger. Sehun held his breath, watching her carefully as she did that pout with her lips subconsciously as she concentrated. She clocked all of the men at the pool too, the ones that were guards, trying to fit in and blend but she had been trained to spot them through the largest of crowds.

“There’s 6 men.”

“Are we taking them out?” Sehun asked, almost too excited.

“You’re disgusting.” She muttered, her gun following the girl in her bikini till she was almost still.

Sehun ran his tongue across his lips and she didn’t mistake his lingering touch on her lower back as he ran his hand over her hip. She gave him a look out of the corner of her eye and he didn’t move it away.

“Why are you in a dress?” He asked. “When you’re like this you can almost see--”

She pulled the trigger and Sehun shot up from his position, suddenly serious. The sound was deafening - sniper rifles always were the loudest - and their ears rung from the pitch but they loved the sound of a gun shot. She carried on looking through the binocular and saw that as always didn’t miss. The female target was on the ground, her security details scrambling to see the assassin.

She smiled, completely sinister. Sehun peaked over the ledge and the disorder that began to unfold below them was satisfying. The target was motionless on the floor, a blur of blood beginning to map her body.

“Let’s go.”

She pushed her tripod back together, shoving that and her gun in her bag. Sehun instinctively grabbed her hand, pulling them both from the building, skillfully avoiding tripping over the other casualties. They left nothing behind, only the gleaming sniper shell that lay purposefully under that very window - let them know who done it.

As they left the gritty unkempt apartment building Sehun was smiling a malevolent look in his eyes. They sped down the street being sure to look over their shoulders with every step they took. The rundown garage at the end of the road was where she had the car and she lead Sehun to it quickly, keeping tight hold of her lover.

The garage was empty, abandoned and it provided them with seclusion from the road. Reaching the white sedan she let go of hand to jump into drivers side only have the wind knocked out of her as he maneuvered her body from behind, shoving her back into the hood of the car.

Stealing her breath he kissed her. It was aggressive, it was voracious and let him rule her mouth as his fingers tangled in her hair at the back of her hair. His hips held her to the bonnet of the car and her body yearned and flamed as he ground his hardening bulge against her. He only stopped to take a step back to slip his hand between their bodies, his fingers expertly sliding up her dress to find exactly what he wanted - her wet and needy.

Her knees buckled and Sehun pushed her legs open with his feet holding them apart as he began his onslaught on her. He found her clit in an instant, rubbing it unforgivingly with his middle finger. She broke the kiss to let out a wanton moan, her eyes finding his sinful eyes looking down at her with intent.
