How do you imagine each member of the Chain waking up from a nightmare?

Well it would depend on the intensity of the nightmare itself, but here’s generally what I think!

Time: is used to sleeping next to Malon, so he’s gotten good at controlling his reaction. Usually wakes up with a soft gasp, jerks a little, but stops himself from bolting upright.

Twilight: makes a lot of little noises in his sleep, and when he’s having a nightmare they get louder, and he starts getting really restless. He usually wakes up with a loud gasp or sob, but once he realizes what he’s doing he quickly muffles it.

Warriors: also good at keeping his reaction controlled, can usually act like he isn’t even having one. But if it’s a really bad nightmare, sometimes he talks in his sleep and bolts upright, and he can’t stand touch until the nightmare is less sharp in his mind.

Sky: he often wakes up slowly, even with the more intense nightmares. He tends to sweat a lot while he’s having them, and usually wakes up feeling hot and gross. And it takes him a long time to fall asleep after one, since his thoughts of whether it might have been prophetic (it’s happened before...) usually keep him awake.

Legend: jerks straight up, but doesn’t make any noise aside from a deeper inhale. If he’s crying at all it’s all very quiet tears, and he tends to shake a lot.

Hyrule: similar to Time and Warriors, he’s gotten good at controlling his reaction. Doesn’t always happen though, and if he’s woken up too abruptly then his initial reaction is to yell to distract, then get away or grab a weapon. Luckily the others figured that out pretty quick.

Four: talks a lot in his sleep during nightmares, lots of whimpers and pleas, and often wakes up with a cry. But he goes dead-silent after he’s woken up, and often feels shaky afterwards, and hates it.

Wind: looks like he’s dead asleep until suddenly he’s sitting up and crying. It takes him a minute to fully wake up too, so until that happens, he clings to either his blanket or whoever woke him up from it.

Wild: very restless, doesn’t sleep very deeply in the first place, so when he has nightmares they’re usually broken up weirdly between periods where he’s more awake. Usually wakes up sniffly and unsettled, and disturbed by what he really hopes aren’t memories.

They were in the endgame now.

Wind had managed to boop everyone else at least four times, except for the prime objective. He’d even gotten Warriors ten times. And, most importantly, he no longer held the most boop wounds - that distinct privilege had gone to Sky because he laughed so much each time he got hit that everyone automatically targeted him.

But now, it was time to get their leader.

Wind would prove once and for all that he was not only a Hero of Hyrule, but one of the most competent. He’d planned his approach carefully, hookshot at the ready. Peeking around one of the logs they’d set up in the camp, he saw Time still relaxing with Twilight, eyes closed as he leaned his head back against a tree.

The tree had many low laying branches, which were perfect for his hookshot to latch on to.

With a smirk, the sailor fired his tool, feeling it pull him towards his target with amazing speed—

Only to get completely knocked aside as Warriors spun by on a gigantic spinning top, swooping in for the kill—

Only for a boomerang to completely knock the spinning top off kilter, as Hyrule swept in to take the victory—

But then Four was there, gust jar in hand, blowing Hyrule off his feet, but then Legend used his power bracelets to lift Four clean into the air, Wild yanked Legend away with the magnetic power of his slate, latching on to Legend’s sword—

Sky slinked up as Time watched the chaos unfold, booping the eldest triumphantly.

Everyone stared in abject shock, offended at how easily the Skyloftian had won.

“That’s no fair, you had the most boops against you!”

“It’s gotta cancel out!”

“How the hell is the rancher still sleeping—”

“I’m not,” Twilight intoned, opening his eyes. “I haven’t been since the first time the sailor tried.”

The group was silent, and then Wind threw his hands in the air. “YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!”

Time smiled, glancing down at his descendant and booping him on the nose.

Twilight lurched upward, every pain in his body forgotten, and he didn’t even hear the surprised shout over the blood roaring in his ears. He whipped his head around, ignoring how it made his whole world spin, and stared.

There was a pile of smoking rubble in the distance.

Twilight cried out and tried to scramble to his feet, but several pairs of arms grabbed him and held him back. Some of the arms were more gentle, some harsh, and someone was telling him to settle down, he’d been injured, he needed to not get up, but Twilight wasn’t listening.

He fought against the arms holding him, and someone shouted for assistance, more hands closing around his arms. Their grip was unrelenting, and Twilight was nearly in tears he was so desperate.

“LET ME GO!” he screamed, thrashing against the arms holding him, “he’s still in there!”

Nobody let go, and Twilight was about to shift in order to escape, when someone new suddenly stepped forward, nice shoes and pressed suit appearing in Twilight’s vision.

“Duskfall, at ease,” he said sharply. “You’ve been out for a while, we’ve already swept and scanned the ruins.”

“Then... so where..?” Twilight gasped, still faintly struggling.

The man in the suit looked at him with no discernible emotion on his face. “No survivors were detected.”

Sky woke up to feeling shaking next to him. He turned and saw Four. Four had clearly woken up from a nightmare, and was shivering in his sweat.

"I'm here," Sky said gently, gesturing for Four to come closer.

"I'll be fine... it happens to everyone."

"Everyone gets cold, your right! Everyone needs comfort sometimes, too."

"Sky..."

"Get over here," Sky said affectionately. Four scooted closer to Sky, who wrapped the sailcloth around Four's shoulders. After a few minutes, Four stopped shivering. The sailcloth was warm and soft- no wonder Sky slept so well! It smelled nice, too!

Four woke up in the morning still next to Sky, but with a little blue burrito in his lap. Wind had taken possession of Wars's scarf and come to join the pile.

Four smiled, forgetting about the nightmare that had plagued his sleep.

The music that poured from Legend's mouth was a slow, sweeping tune, warm in the way that a lullaby was, and made even nicer by the fact that the veteran had a really nice voice.

Not too bad, honestly. I'm getting geared up for October (one of my favorite months!!) which has been good! I'm excited to start sharing the fics I've been working on :)

Why do things keep leaving me? Why can nothing stay?

I keep asking myself these questions, but to what avail? Why do I try to control my life by myself when there is a loving God to walk me through it if I can just surrender?

Help me to give up my pride and surrender my heart to you, God. You have walked beside me all my life and will never stop loving me. Help me to turn back to you with gratitude. You have wiped the tears from my face time and time again when I have let you into my heart. I have no doubt that, if it is your will, you will do it again.

Lord, walk with me, guide me, and increase my love.
