His gloved hand holding yours as he guides you beside him, keeping you close. His nose and cheeks dusted with pink from the cold, and you hope that he thinks your blushing is just the same. His lips curled into that sickeningly sweet smile of his, just the sight warms you up. He chuckles softly as you stumble on the ice, and you can’t help but begin to laugh with him. You both end up in a fit of giggles as you struggle to not fall over from it.

People’s eyes are on you but you don’t care. You barely ever get to have this with him, and when you finally get to go away to a planet without the prying eyes of the order you’re going to take advantage of it. Here you aren’t Jedi’s, you aren’t forbidden lovers sentenced to a life of secrets. Here you’re just two people, two lovers spending their day at the ice rink. Just a young couple in love, holding hands and skating together.

He pulls you in closer to him, almost making you slip at the sudden movement. A hearty chuckle slips past his lips, his eyes crinkled up from his large smile. Your laughter dies down and you are both left looking at each other, still smiling genuine smiles. His eyes are soft and content, no distress on his face at all. Moments like these are rare in this universe, never seeming to give you a break. But here, now, things are calm. You have not a care in the universe at anything happening, you’re just here. Here with your love, laughing and smiling together. Here, nothing but two civilians taking little vacation. It’s beautiful, being able to be with him like this.

“You got something on your mind?” He mumbles, his voice half muffled by your hair.

“Nothing at all, Ani,” you respond, your voice soft.

He just responds with a small grin, a comfortable silence settling over the two of you. You skate in silence, the warmth of his hand in yours and the feeling of him so close to you. Free of the worry of the Jedi order, no intent to hide how hopelessly in love you are. It’s so beautiful.

How It Is Created: Amethyst receives its color beginning at the crystal’s growth. At the first stage, trace amounts of iron are incorporated into the crystal as it starts to grow. After the crystallization starts, gamma rays are emitted by radioactive materials within the host rock and the irradiated iron gives the amethyst its beautiful purple color.

History: One of the earliest references to amethyst is in the Old Testament book of Exodus as it is mentioned that one of the stones in the breastplate of Aaron the High Priest was an amethyst. There is not a clear indication to where the name comes from but it is said that it is derived from the Greek word “amethyst” which means “not drunk”. Despite this, it is associated with the god, Dionysus, because the purple hue of the crystal looks like delicious grape wine. Wine goblets were carved of this stone to prevent drunkenness. There is also a Greek lore involving Dionysus with a young girl named Amethyst. The lore reads:

“Dionysus was angry one day and swore that he would exact his revenge on the next mortal that came by. He created several tigers, informed him of their mission and went his way. As it would happen, a lovely young girl named Amethyst was the next to come by, on her way to pay homage to Artemis and was attacked. Artemis quickly changed the girl into a statue of solid quartz. When Dionysus returned to see what he had wrought, he was overcome with remorse and wept tears of purple wine which flowed over the statue, staining it permanently.”

The color was also in demand throughout history since the color purple is associated with royalty and was worn by royals in Egypt and Europe. In some traditions, Catholic Bishops wear amethyst rings to symbolize their piety and celibacy, and rosaries are still fashioned with this stone.

YOOO - this is one of the first fics I've read in this fandom and oh my god. It's kind of PWP - but the characterization, the feeling, the EMOTION. It's all there. It's a two parter - read them both, it's so good, it's one of those fics where I read it and I was like. Oh yeah this happened in canon.

Desperate and unwilling to accept that maybe their friendship is ruined, Anakin finds a counselor they can talk to, one that specializes in healing "teams."

Or, as the counselor would probably put it, married couples, which they are decidedly not. Not that she knows that though. And not that they know that she thinks they're in a romantic relationship either. What a silly assumption to make. It's not like they're more intimate than lovers or anything.

I know I recced this before, and I'm usually against that but lol. This fic, this fic truly holds such a special place in my mind, it fits in SO WELL with the headcanons I have of Obi-Wan and Anakin, the little questionnaires they answer in the end of each chapter - the EVERYTHING. I'm not even exaggerating this fic is what's keeping me tethered to the obikin fandom atm. I really get a bit stupid when Kit's fics are involved, she is probably the author who got me hooked on obikin, so I would suggest checking out her work in general. I could rec anything and everything from her.

American Christianity makes me sick honestly. It’s just so insane. Western Christianity really, I’ve seen it enough in Canada too. But instead, I live in a world where fucking idiots just use and abuse the word of their text to harm people they don’t like. Fucking idiots who can’t even seem to wrap their heads around the idea that Jesus wasn’t even white for fuck’s sake. Love for others doesn’t mean you just tolerate them either. It means you understand them. It means you sit down and listen and find the love in your heart to accept them the way they are, or by god you can try til the day you’re dead. Was generational hatred and pain something your god asked you to pass on like a genetic cancer? Is your god’s love conditional? Fuck off. I don’t even need to claim the devil had anything to do with you being so stupid and mean. You needed to try harder, look closer, love louder to be more than a hypocrite in my eyes.

My Connection to Nature & It's Evolution

Hey everyone, welcome to my blog!

Today I'll be discussing my relationship with nature and its evolution over the years.

As I’ve progressed through university, I’ve found myself developing a greater appreciation of nature. Not that I ever didn't respect or appreciate it, but it was just always there, so I never took the time to truly immerse myself in its entirety. That's kind of the reality of growing up; you learn that life isn't simple and easy but rather that things can change quite quickly. When I was a kid I never thought about the future of the planet or of the colossal impacts we have on our environment. Now that I’ve grown up and taken classes detailing the science behind our planet and environment, I know how fragile it is and how unpromised its future is. 

I grew up in Sudbury, Ontario. Sudbury is a city in northern Canada known for its rich natural surroundings and historical significance. The city is located on the Canadian Shield, and as such, has an abundance of rocky terrain and greenery. My house was 30 minutes out of town and ‘deep into the bush’ as some would say (I've included a picture below for context). Due to this, I was surrounded by forests and lakes with really no urban influence. Living there, surrounded solely by nature, I found a “sense of place”. Nature was not just a backdrop in Sudbury; it was an intrinsic component of my daily life. The trees provided a safe place, the lakes brought serenity, and the hard terrain was like a huge playground. Growing up I had a deep connection with the land, creating memories that were linked with the rustling of leaves, the smell of fresh pine, and the cool winds that blew around us while we played outside. As we had no real neighbours and about 140 acres of land with our house, me and my brother were often left to do whatever we pleased outside. This allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in nature and, honestly, gave us no other choice even if we didn't want to play outside. There was nothing even remotely close; just us and nature. This led to me having a more recreational connection to nature. I think this is why as a child I never truly appreciated nature, as I thought that it was just standard to always have it around us. It was only when I was old enough to understand the realities of the world that I developed a stronger appreciation for nature. 

Over the last several years, I've been fortunate enough to have taken various courses and learned a lot about nature. So far, Climate Change Biology (ENVS*3010) has by far been my favourite and truly opened my eyes about our impacts on the environment. As a result, my viewpoint on nature as a whole has changed significantly. I have also developed new kinds of connections with nature recently, including therapeutic, scientific, and sustainable-based connections. I now use my early memories as a source of reflection and thankfulness, displaying the long-term evolution of my relationship with nature. 

I also have such a love for nature as it allows me to spend time with my family. Going out for walks and looking at all the diverse scenery is a great way to clear your head and take in its beauty. Recently, I've been training my new puppy how to walk on her leash. My parent's house is up north still so there aren't any sidewalks. Due to this, it's been challenging to get her to stay on the side of the road and walk off the paved road when cars pass. She seems to love cars so this has been quite a challenge. Especially when she tries to run in front of them or after them 🙃

I'M DYING AT THIS 💀💀💀

Okay, okay, okay. So my movie taste is a little bit everywhere - so I'm not sure what you like. Let me give you a couple with a brief summary to give you a sense of what I like.

Suck: 2009 (M)

A struggling troup of musicians travel around Canada and USA. It's only when the bassist of the group is turned into a vampire that they finally meet success. Now they have to deal with the consequences of a rise in fame: hunters, groupies, and an insatiable hunger that they need to satisfy to keep up their success. Dark comedy, gore, cameos from musicians, musical.

I don't know why I like this movie, but I do. I think it's the vampires, the miniature models, the muso references, the makeup, and the gore. Could also be Alice Cooper and Iggy Pop.

Calamity Jane: 1955 (PG)

A firecracker gunslinger with a boisterous attitude seeks out actress Adelaide Adams to bring back to her town of Deadwood to win a bet. She finds a friend in the actress, and finds love along the way. Musical, wild west, angst, comedy, romance.

This was my bisexual awakening. This movie has a special place in my heart. I love Doris Day and Allyn Ann McLerie. Howard Keel's voice is also just 🫠. Costumes 👌👌👌. A man in drag singing 🤌.

Overboard: 1987 (PG)

A spoilt heiress decides to snub a single father, widower carpenter she hired after being "dissatisfied" with his services. She cheats him out of his wage, and he is left to fend for himself with little funds to back him up. When that heiress falls overboard and is diagnosed with amnesia, the carpenter decides to get her back and claim to be her husband: working her to the bone as his "wife" to have her earn back the wage she'd lost him. Comedy, romance, Goldie Hawn, Kurt Russell.

THIS IS MY ULTIMATE COMFORT MOVIE. I will watch this movie on repeat. The chemistry between Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell is absolutely gorgeous - and it's before they ended up getting married in real life. I just AAAAAAAAAAA at this movie. It has all of my favourite tropes, and I love it. Amnesia, enemies to lovers, payback, revenge, and it also is so validating for the often unseen role of being the "at home" parent.

Van Helsing: 2004 (M)

The legendary monster hunter travels to Transylvania to aid in the hunt of the vampire responsible for destroying the town. When the princess of an ancient Romani family becomes the vampire's target, he stops at nothing to end her torment. Hugh Jackman, Kate Beckinsale, David Wenham, Richard Roxburgh. Horror themes, action, romance, monsters.

This movie copped a lot of hate when it was released, but it's another one of my comfort films. It's got the Aussie Hugh in it, and a vampire masquerade dance scene that I just AAAAAAAAAA each time. I love it. It's romance, and I am a sucker for monsters.

Kill Bill: 1 & 2 (R+)

A woman betrayed seeks out her revenge on those who attempted to kill her on her wedding day. Blood, gore, angst, dark, violence, a beautiful soundtrack, multilingual, Uma Thurman, Lucy Liu, fighting.

Another comfort movie. I love this entire plot so much. Tarantino has a few good ones, but this one, Dusk Till Dawn and Planet Terror are my favourites. I love the switch up to Japanese in there.

I am very much enjoying Day 1 of my holiday. Dreamworld is the destination today. Last time I was here was during the night festivals and I may have gotten a little wild and did 'the nutbush' (Australian dance to Tina Turner) with a bunch of children. Reminded me of the good ol' days of being an entertainer 💀. I should do a rollercoaster or a slide POV for you when I'm there 🖤.

Prompt : Who are you to interpret nature through art? How do you interpret “the gift of beauty”?

“Art is in the eye of the beholder, and everyone will have their own interpretation”. This quote was written by  E. A. Bucchianeri, and it gave me a sense of place within the world of artistic interpretation. Growing up, I thought appreciating art meant simply going to a museum and studying artifacts and paintings, but I now know that art can be found anywhere. It can be as simple as taking a photo of a sunset you are amazed by, or by watching movies, shows, or documentaries. I never thought of myself as an interpreter, but this course has proved that I am one even though I never realized it. 

Some forms of art that I’ve always had an appreciation for are movies and documentaries. The visuals and imagery from movies help to set the tone of the story and there are so many ways you can then interpret it. One movie that particularly caught my attention was Howl’s Moving Castle from Studio Ghibli.  The film explores many themes, and you can tell that the producers put so much thought into the animations, the landscapes, and the characters. Although this movie is animated, I think it does an amazing job of capturing the essence of nature and how we can find beauty in real life. I’ll also add some pictures of scenes from the movie!

Growing up, I used to watch documentaries on Animal Planet, which inspired my love for nature and the environment. They were an opportunity for me to learn what our world has to offer and the beauty that lies within it. They painted a picture of how so many animals live in their environments and in turn, benefit them. The camera work allows viewers to appreciate the art and beauty of nature on other continents. I got the opportunity to learn about our world beyond where we live, and I was able to admire nature within Canada as well. 

The Animal Planet documentaries are what sparked my interest in pursuing an environmental career, and more specifically in animal conservation. Climate change and human activities pose a big threat to the environment and its flora and fauna. These documentaries showed me the beauty of nature and how we may lose it one day, and I want to do my part as an interpreter to protect it and make sure that future generations can benefit from it. I hope to one day open my own animal conservatory and rehabilitation center. I mentioned before that I never saw myself as an interpreter, but there are so many ways to define it. I am a curious interpreter, who wants to find solutions to our problems and is continuously learning how to respect nature through art.

This past weekend, I took Kewanee with me on a camping trip, so that she and I could get to know each other better.

Kewanee is new here, and I haven't done much with her yet. But I know she's the type of kid who is always in the mood for an adventure.

I brought along her tent and her camp stove. The tent is American Girl brand, and the stove was made by me. It can only hold a pretend fire, but I gathered a few "logs" for it anyway so Kewanee felt included. Here's the post where I explain how I made it.

The next day, we got up and headed out for part 2 of our adventure!

We drove northwest to reach Narbona Pass, in the Chuska and the Tunicha mountains, on the Navajo Nation. The drive up is quite spectacular--you start out in a rather barren desert, and when you've gone up the summit you're suddenly in tall forests of spruce and aspen trees! In the middle of the above photo, you can see the pink and yellow desert below the trees. It's like driving from Mexico to Canada, but the trip only takes a few minutes instead of several days.

This was the highest point of the pass. The flowery meadows were so beautiful!

We continued to follow the road going west as it went downhill. The road eventually leveled out as it turned south, where we saw the most beautiful red rock formations.

I know Kewanee is still feeling a little homesick for Michigan, where she's from. But the lovely scenery passing us by at every moment helped her feel better about her new home here. This is only a small sample of the natural beauty she'll see.

If you ask me, it doesn't get better than this, at least not on any known planet in any solar system! Maybe one day she'll agree with me about that.
