1963, Cherrywood Village, Louisville
The life of George William Russell ended on a fine weather day in the summer of 1961 with the bright flash of a camera in his face, capturing the moment he now wiped clean every morning behind a glass frame on the mantelpiece. He'd been married off to a man who'd been courting him since he was sixteen, and began serious wooing on his eighteenth birthday, so George always knew his time was about to run out, with the way his parents were pleased to welcome a wealthy suitor there was no chance of rejection. Fernando was too many years older to hope for love. And wanted a pretty little omega himself more than books on housekeeping and cooking could prepare for their first wedding night. So that's how George ended up here. In a fancy neighborhood in Louisville, Colorado, in his new big house he had no idea what to do with, staying here alone most of the time while Fernando was busy working; doing the cooking, cleaning, gardening, spending Thursdays playing bridge with the other omegas in the area and wondering if his life would always be as if he never had one in the first place.
With Omegas: George Russell, Alex Albon, Logan Sargeant, Charles Leclerc, Yuki Tsunoda, Lance Stroll, Esteban Ocon.
And Alphas: Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel, Oscar Piastri, Valtteri Bottas, Pierre Gasly, Kevin Magnussen
Dinner parties for business partners, Omega avoiding getting pregnant with his husband’s pups, secret romances and infidelity as something no one talks about, but a lot people are involved anyway.

“please just come to bed” baby fl and jack
This happened when they had their first apartment in Louisville 💕
You woke up and noticed that there was light peeking beneath the hallway door and reached over to notice that Jack wasn't next to you.
He probably hadn't been for awhile seeing as his side of the bed was cold.
Wanting to make sure he was okay, you threw the comforter off of your body and followed where the light was coming from.
Once you walked down the hallway and spotted him sitting on the couch surrounded by a bunch of crumpled up paper and an overflowing trash can, all you did was sigh.
His writer's block had hit him like a ton of bricks and didn't seem to be letting up anytime soon which you knew he was frustrated by.
All you did was come up behind him and simply wrapped your arms around his neck and you felt him somewhat relax under your embrace as you leaned down to kiss the top of his head before leaning to the side and kissing his cheek.
“Baby…” You simply said as he brought one of your hands up to his lips to kiss the back of it.
“Yes? I didn't wake you up did I?”
“No, but shouldn't you be sleeping? I woke up to a cold bed.”
“I just…. I know. I just wanted to write something, anything at this point but nothing is working.” Jack replied as he sighed before you let go of him to come around to the front of the couch to sit next to him.
“It will, babe. But stressing out about it non stop is not going to help.” You quietly said while brushing a hand through his curls.
“What if I’m not cut out to do this?” Jack quietly said, indicating how frustrated he was.
“And I’m going to stop you right there. Baby, you know that you are and I am never letting you give up. This happens to everyone in the industry who writes songs. I’m sure that they take a break when this happens and before they know it, they're writing again.”
“I’ve been at this for hours.”
“Please, just come to bed.” You pleaded with him knowing that he was only stressing himself out more.
“Another hour and I will.”
“No. You're coming to bed now because I see how upset this has you. Cuddles from your wife are bound to help, and you’ll be writing in no time.” You said as you slid his notebook away from him and he didn't even put up a fight.
“Look at me.” You said and he pushed his glasses up on his face before doing so.
“It's going to happen, okay? But you have to promise me to never give up. I won't let you do that anyway, but still.”
All Jack did was nod as you leaned over to kiss him which he quickly accepted.
“But I need to hear you say it.”
“It's going to happen and this is just a part of the process. Besides, I have a wedding ring to pay for.”
“That can come later, but I’ll be damned if you don’t see this through. Now come on and let's sleep.”
All he did was nod, as you grabbed his hand as both of you got up from the couch and made your way back to your bedroom.
You went and laid down on your side, but quickly opened your arms for him to lay on you.
“Come here, smush.”
Jack flopped down on top of you as you slid off his glasses and put them on the dresser as he hugged you tighter.
“I love you and I will always be here for you. Now, go to sleep.”
“I love you too, and thank you for checking on me and just being my wife in general.”
“Always and forever, baby.”

Wedding Season - Jack Harlow x f!reader
Summary: Jack is invited to an old friend’s wedding and he’s been convinced by his friends to bring the girl he hates as his plus one.
It was a rather chill summer day for Jack. He had gone to the studio earlier in the day which allowed him to have a relaxing rest of the night. So that’s where he was now, chilling in his living room of the apartment he shared with Urban while the both of them ate the takeout they ordered.
Earlier in the month, both boys were invited to an old high school friend’s wedding back in Louisville and neither one of them had the heart to say no despite their busy schedules. Now there was only a couple days until the wedding and Jack felt like an absolute loser for not having a date.
“You bringing anyone to Colton’s wedding?” Jack asked Urban before he scooped up a mouthful of mashed potato to eat.
Urban couldn't help but smile. “You know how I started talking to Nia again?” Jack nodded, showing that he was listening as he chewed. “Yeah...invited her as my plus one...gonna try to make things official with her after the wedding,” he explained.
Jack groaned, “fuck outta here, man. You letting me ride solo on this one?” he half joked in question. Urban only shrugged with a laugh. “Not my fault you ain't got anyone at the moment...or you know...you could always ask y/n to be your date,” he suggested cautiously.
Upon hearing that, Jack scoffed. “Bro--y’all gotta stop bringing her up I swear,” he muttered. “We have never and will never get along,” he persisted arrogantly.
“She’s Nia’s best friend--”
“And what does that have to do with me?” Jack asked in annoyance. “You just want to get on Nia’s good side but I’m the one that’s gonna end up suffering.”
Urban furrowed his brows before he scoffed. “You’re so fucking dramatic bro. I don't even understand what happened for you to hate her so much,” he tsked. “It’s like you were in love with her one minute during high school--wanting to ask her out for junior prom-- and the next you hated her guts. But whatever man. If you wanna be the hottest rapper out there and still not be able to cop a date then that’s up to you,” he shrugged.
Jack rolled his eyes before he let out a defeated sigh. “I’ll think about it...but no fuckin’ promises,” he mumbled.
__
You stood in front of the mirror, staring and picking apart your appearance in the dress you had chosen for Colton and Grace’s wedding. It was an outdoor wedding and so you dressed in a simple silk-like dress that hugged your body perfectly and the colour complementing your beautiful and glowing skin. Despite knowing you looked good, you couldn’t help but be nervous.
“You need to stop picking apart your look,” Nia spoke up matter of factly, noticing your nerves, as she applied her gloss. She looked absolutely stunning as well, her dress choice also being the most perfect look for her. Urban was going to be hella impressed to say the least.
You let out a sigh. “I’m not I’m just--I don’t understand why Jack asked me to be his plus one,” you frowned. “I feel like it’s some cruel prank,” you mumbled, smoothing down your dress anxiously.
“Well I mean people change,” Nia pointed out. “So give it a chance. Maybe this is him trying to make amends,” she offered, ever the optimist. “Now come on! We’re gonna be late!” she exclaimed, grabbing hold of your hand before the both of you stumbled out of the apartment with your heels clicking behind you.
As you arrived to the venue, you were in complete awe of the setup. It was beautiful--from the grand archway, down to the details in the flowers that stood as centrepieces on each table.
You took in a breath as you scanned the venue, noting how you were met with familiar faces from your high school days. “This...is gonna be a long ass day. I can already tell,” you whined, your friend humming in agreement.
“There’s Urban,” Nia breathed out with love struck eyes, causing you to giggle. “Ooooh your man looks good,” you teased, causing her to blush madly. “Shut up,” she mumbled while still blushing. “He’s not officially my man...yet.”
When Urban finally set eyes on you and Nia, he started approaching with Jack dragging behind him reluctantly. Truth be told he was nervous. He hadn’t seen you in quite some time and the last time he spoke to you, it was full of hostility.
Urban immediately pulled Nia aside, whispering in her ear and complimenting her in all the ways he should, leaving you and Jack standing alone.
“Hey,” he mumbled in greeting. “You uh...you look nice...I guess.”
You smile awkwardly and begin to anxiously play around with the rings on your fingers. “Thanks. So do you.”
As the night progressed, the tension between Jack and you seemed to linger in the air. Despite the polite exchanges and forced smiles, there was an underlying current of animosity that couldn't be ignored. It was as if both of you were tiptoeing around a minefield, waiting for the first explosion to occur.
After dinner, the DJ started playing a slow, romantic song, and couples began to take the dance floor. Nia and Urban shared a loving glance before swaying together, lost in their own world. Feeling a mix of discomfort and curiosity, you and Jack found yourselves standing near each other.
Jack cleared his throat. “Do you want to dance?” he asked. You shook your head. “Not really,” you responded quietly, causing Jack to audibly scoff. “God you’re such a bitch,” he muttered, running his hands through his curls. “I don’t know why I’m even trying.”
Your eyes widened as you took full offence. “I’m the bitch?! Oh I’m sorry for not wanting to dance with the guy who’s always been an asshole to me! If I remember correctly--you’re the one who blocked me out of the blue!”
“Don’t act like you don’t know why y/n.”
You scoffed. “Actually why don’t you enlighten me because I don’t remember ever doing anything to you to make you hate me so much! I liked you and I thought the feelings were mutual—”
“They were until I overheard you telling your friends you thought I was ugly and that I was stupid for trying to pursue a rap career,” he mumbled.
Hearing that made your heart sink to your stomach. “Jack,” you sighed. “You weren’t supposed to hear that,” you say softly. “Because I didn’t actually mean any of that—”
“Then why did you say it?” he asked, his voice quiet and almost quivering. “I really fucking liked you and I know I always played it off like I’m a confident motherfucker but that crushed me.”
Your heart absolutely broke at hearing his confession. “Oh Jack—I only said that because Tina was a bitch and she noticed you and me getting closer and she started saying that someone as likeable and popular as you wouldn’t romantically go for someone like me. She also said that the two of you had started hooking up and it wasn’t long before you would’ve started dating so I had to back off and the only way to protect myself in front of her was to make it seem like I never cared about you from the start,” you explained softly.
“She’s a liar. I never fucked around with her like that—”
“Yeah well how was I supposed to know?! She was the blonde skinny popular white girl—and I was me—I guess it just made sense to me,” you sighed.
Jack groaned, “well that was up to me to decide don’t y’a think? God—I just wish you would’ve just told me or something.”
“Yeah well can’t change the past now,” you muttered sarcastically under your breath but loud enough for him to hear.
Jack licked his lips in thought before a small smirk started to make its way onto his lips. “You’re right…but we can definitely influence the future,” he hummed, taking your hand and pulling you onto the dance floor.
The slow romantic song was still playing so he took the opportunity to take both your hands and place them on his broad shoulders before his own rested against your hips, leading the dance with gentle sways.
Your cheeks were on fire at the entire interaction, but you welcomed it easily, thankful that he was the one that was able to take charge.
The both of you swayed in silence, you choosing to look anywhere but his eyes while he stared intently at you, loving the chance to admire you up close.
“Jack…I really am sorry. I never meant to hurt you,” you whispered, the guilt eating you alive.
“I don’t think I stressed enough earlier how beautiful you look,” he mused, looking down at you with his charming smile.
You can’t help your own smile making its way onto your lips. “Jack.”
“Y/N,” he mocked back teasingly.
“I was being serious!” you laughed.
Jack rolled his eyes playfully. “Isn’t it obvious that I forgive you already?” he asked with a raised brow, his hands giving your hips a squeeze.
You shrugged. “Just want the confirmation.”
“If you let me kiss you would that be enough confirmation?”
“Yes,” you whispered timidly, a blush overtaking your cheeks.
As the words left your lips, Jack wasted no time in closing the distance between you. His hand cupped your cheek gently, his touch sending a shiver down your spine. And then, his lips met yours in a soft, tender kiss.
Time seemed to stand still as you melted into the embrace, the animosity of the past melting away with every lingering touch. The world around you faded into the background as Jack deepened the kiss, his other hand finding its way to the small of your back, pulling you closer.
When you finally pulled away, breathless and with flushed cheeks, Jack rested his forehead against yours, a contented smile gracing his lips. "I've wanted to do that for so long," he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper.
A genuine smile spread across your face as you looked into his eyes, seeing a mixture of vulnerability and hope. "I wish I had been honest with you from the beginning," you confessed. "But I promise, I'll make it up to you."
Jack's smile widened, and he brushed his thumb gently across your cheek. "I believe you," he said softly. "We both made mistakes, but we can start fresh--starting with a proper first date?"
“I’d like that a lot.”

Love Should've Brought You Home
Random short based off of a JH story I'm free styling writing. It has nothing to do with the story itself, though some facts from the latter may present themselves.
Warning: Angst ahead
Synopsis: Jack is engaged to his former high school girlfriend Simone after they reconnected and began dating in their adult years. As the stress of their careers, wedding planning and their relationship weighs heavy on them, Jack begins a five month affair with a woman he met at a party. Growing tired of lying and sneaking around, he decides to tell Simone everything.
Main Cast: Jack Harlow and Jourdan Riane (as Simone)
Cameos: None
Mad Love Library Masterlist
Jack laid back in the comfortable California king bed staring up at the ceiling as Stacey laid asleep next to him. He looked over at her, though his mind was elsewhere. He thought about Simone, his fiancee of a year and a half and the only woman to have gotten him near the full point of marriage.
The two of them had known each other since they were 14 years old and dated from ages 15 to 17. They'd broken up months before graduation due to their differences in plans and Jack's acceptance of gaining attention from other girls. She wanted to pursue a degree while he wanted to chase his rap career. Though the two supported each other's dreams and remained faithful to each other, the relationship didn't last.
Others thought they would be the high school sweethearts that stayed together through college age and eventually get married and have kids. The two of them secretly thought that as well.
Simone Le'vine was the name she was given at birth and what the world knew her as, but he knew her as Monie. A Louisville native of both French and Haitian decent with the brains, beauty and spirit to match. Hypnotizing brown eyes, brown skin, beautiful naturally curly hair that he liked to run his fingers through when it wasn't in a protective style, long legs with thick thighs and an ass he loved to grasp in his palms. She'd earned her degree in both business and psychology while in college, though she became a model due to being discovered shortly before her graduation.
She had been on nearly every famous magazine cover known in and outside of the US and even walked a few runways. Though her height was only 5'7, designers were mesmerized by her with every step she'd take.
The two of them reconnected at the 2022 Met Gala with plenty of hostility from her end which he understood. A civil conversation between them eventually took place and they renewed their friendship, though Jack knew he wanted her back. Simone wanted him back as well, but didn't want to come off so eager. Which she wasn't.
They'd gotten back together and things had been great the past three years. Until Stacey came along.
He'd met Stacey at an awards after party nearly five months ago and the two had been sneaking around ever since. She met her around the time that he and Simone had been bickering and having petty arguments back and forth. It didn't help that Simone had a male friend that she was close with who was also in the industry she was in. The guy rarely hid his desire for her or the fact he wanted her to be with him instead of Jack.
It pissed him off more when he would comment on every photo she would post or the photos he would take with her, alluding to there being something more between them. Sometimes he wondered if there was.
He looked over at Stacey's sleeping figure once more, shaking his head to himself. She wasn't even half of what Simone was and he began to think with his head up top instead of down below.
He needed to come clean with his woman and stop whatever he had with Stacey.
He flipped back the covers and got out of the bed to put his clothes on. As he dressed himself, Stacey turned over, her eyes fluttering open as she looked at him.
"Leaving so soon?" She asked in her sleepy voice.
"Honestly, I should've left sooner." He admitted honestly and grabbed his New Balance sneakers, "Look, I might as well go ahead and tell you now. This is the last time we're gonna see each other."
Stacey immediately sat up, covering herself with the comforter.
"What? Why? Did I do something wrong?" She asked him, concern laced in her tone.
"It's not you that did something wrong, it's me. I should've never started this...thing with you. I have a woman waiting for me at home that I love and I'm here with you. This should never have happened." He shook his head, slipping on his sneakers.
"Wait, Jack. Just wait. What are you saying?"
"I'm saying that what you and me had is done. I'm going home to my woman and I'm telling her everything that's been happening."
Stacey scoffed and chuckled humorlessly, "And you really think it's that easy? You think she's gonna just welcome you with open arms? From what you've been telling me, she never has welcomed you with open arms."
"You know nothing about her or the history we have." He defended, "That woman knows me better than anybody else and look at what I'm doing to her. It took a while for me to get her back and this is how I treat her. I'm going back where I belong and you and me are done."
She rolled her eyes and crossed her arms, leaning back against the headboard.
"Fine, do whatever. When she kicks you out of the house and breaks up with you, don't come crawling back to me."
"Believe me...I won't. Made the mistake of crawling to you once, a second time is not needed to remind me."
He grabbed his phone, keys and wallet and walked out of the bedroom towards the front door. He left, got into his car and immediately started the engine before pulling out of the driveway.
When he arrived back to Simone's house in the last night hour, he used his key and carefully the front door, quietly closing it behind him. He tiptoed through the spacious entryway, making sure not to make too much noise.
Suddenly, the lights in the living room came on and he looked to see Simone sitting on the large sectional with her arms crossed. If looks could kill, he would be a dead man.
"Studio session must've ran late, huh?" She questioned him, the look of anger swirling in her eyes.
Jack rubbed the back of his neck and walked closer towards her, "Yeah, about that...um, I wasn't at the studio."
"No, really? I had no idea." She expressed in fake shock, tilting her head.
"Cut the sarcasm, Monie."
"You don't get to tell me that. I don't wanna hear shit from you except her name. Who is she?" She badgered him.
He sighed and looked down at his feet.
"Her name is Stacey." He confessed.
"And how long have you been seeing her?"
The guilt began to sit in more and he sighed a second time.
"Five months." He mumbled.
Simone chuckled humorlessly, pinching the bridge of her nose and bit her bottom lip as she attempted to suppress her rage before directing her attention back to him.
"Five months? Five MONTHS?!" She exclaimed, standing up from the couch. "We're supposed to get married in six months and you've been sleeping around on me with some random bitch?!"
"I know, I know! I'm sorry! You and I were arguing so much back and forth and neither one of us wanted to listen to each other. I met her at an after party and she just-"
"Distracted you from the problems we had when you should've been talking to the main one you have the problems with?" She finished his sentence, crossing her arms.
"Baby, princess...I'm so sorry. I don't know why I did it, I really don't. I know I should've been thinking with my head up top and I should've talked to you first instead of letting her come between us. I don't want her. I even told her I'd come clean to you and I broke things off with her because I couldn't live with doing that to you."
"Clearly, you could live with it. You made it five months, what's a lifetime?"
She scoffed deeply and pushed past him, marching up the stairs to the bedroom. He was hot on her trails, following her upstairs and watched as she grabbed a suitcase from the walk-in closet.
"I know I fucked up, there's no excuse for it. I was wrong and I'll do whatever to make this right. Just please give me another chance." He begged her.
Simone remained quiet as she packed some clothes and other belongings into the suitcase.
"Come on, baby. Why are you packing a suitcase? Where are you going?" He asked, keeping his eyes onto her.
She chuckled humorlessly again and looked at him.
"I'm not going anywhere. See, I don't know if you forgot, but I paid for this house and I pay for the bills that go with it." She reminded him and pointed at the suitcase, "These are your things."
"Baby, please don't. I don't want her, I don't need her and I don't even love her! I love you!" He expressed desperately.
"You love me?! You love me, huh?! Is this how you treat somebody you love?! Sneaking around and fucking some other bitch behind my back?! Lying to me for months?! If that's your idea of "love", I don't fucking want it! Love should've brought your ass home to me instead of her for the past five months!" She raged, angrily zipping up the suitcase.
Tears filled both of their eyes as she took the suitcase off of the bed and placed it in front of him.
"That should be everything. Anything else, I'll have it sent to you."
"Princess, I don't want this. I don't want to be without you. I don't want anybody else, I want you. I want you forever. Let me know what I can do to make this right. I swear I'll do anything." He pleaded, cupping her cheeks into his palms.
"You know what you can do?" She caressed his cheek.
"I'll do anything. You name it."
All of a sudden, Simone reached back and slapped him as hard as she could. Jack stumbled back slightly and held his reddened cheek, looking at her sorrowfully.
"You can take the suitcase and get the fuck out of my house. I don't want to see you right now, if at all." She spoke calmly, her voice trembling in anger and betrayal.
"Princess..."
"Get out, Thomas. NOW." She demanded.
They always used each other's middle names whenever a situation at hand was not one to be taken lightly. It was also a way to show just how upset one or the other truly was by something that was done or said.
Knowing there was no changing her mind, Jack grabbed the suitcase and began walking out of the bedroom.
"Oh, I just remembered. You did forget something." She spoke up.
She reached for the seven carat engagement ring on her finger and threw it at him. It bounced off of his chest and he looked down at it, feeling more tears fill his eyes. He grabbed the ring off of the floor and looked at her as the tears fell down her face.
A burned memory that he'd never forget. He had no one to blame for it but himself. Usually, he'd be the one wiping her tears from someone else causing her harm. Now, the cause of her tears were on his hands.
Not another word was said as he held the suitcase in his hand and walked down the stairs and out of the door.
If she never wanted to see him again, he knew she would've been well within her rights. He did the one thing he promised he wouldn't do ever when they got back together.
He broke her heart and her trust.

I can't find on my blog if I've posted about this before, but the 19th century local dandy that wrote Edgar Allen Poe fanfiction, Douglass Sherley, was mentioned in this letter that a local historian dug up for me and it is fascinating. I'm just going to copy + paste my pillowfort post about it.
So the historian I've been in contact with was an incredible help, and went ahead and transcribed the bits of the letters that discuss Sherley.
"The description of Douglass Sherley is on the final page of that letter (page 6) and reads:
“By this time you have, doubtless, read of the horrible confirmation of the old reports about Douglass Sherley. I did not believe them before and cannot comprehend how he could have been guilty of such baseness. He has consented to leave the country for good next Monday, so ___ Sherley’s brother informed brother Will.” Bruce then goes on to talk about cantaloupes, I think. I believe the blank might be “Mrs.” or a first name.
Second letter, second page
“You say you did not read of Douglass Sherley’s disgrace. Don’t speak of it to anyone, for the disgraceful affair should never pollute a woman’s lips.' "
These letters are from August 23rd and August 28th 1896, and there are barely any mention of him in the Courier Journal after 1896. This is important because prior to that he was all over the paper. There were mentions of him going to numerous weddings and parties, he wrote columns for the paper, and he was involved in putting on things like operas and plays.
He also died in Martinsville, Indiana, which makes me wonder if that was where he moved. (I believe he still lived in Louisville for part of his last years.)
I think I've just about reached a wall with my research; the only other thing I have any interest (at the moment, at least) in chasing after are newspapers that he was in when he toured with James Whitcomb Riley. Someone else was kind enough to write a blog entry that includes clippings from non-Louisville newspapers, and they're an interesting look into how Sherley was known outside of Louisville:
The Wilmington, NC Weekly Star, 8 Dec 1893 (reprinted from the Indianapolis Journal):
Kentucky’s Oscar Wilde Douglass Sherley is doubtless, in a literary way, the most conspicuous person in Louisville. He is notable also in many other ways. At first glance he is seen to be what is styled a “character.” Being fond of character study himself, he would no doubt generously recognize his own claim to the classification. He is a large, well built, squarely adjusted man, with a massive head and neck, dark hair, an intelligent brown, suggestive of femininity in a way, keen and kindly eyes, a large brown mustache, worn in curly ends like the “beau catchers” of the traditional stage spinster, a pleasant, sensitive mouth, with the air of a man of the world, but withal a clean, temperate, perfectly correct man of the world. He has a droll habit of holding his head on one side and looking aslant through his eyeglasses, which gives him a unique expression, and without which and the flowers in his lapel, almost always a red rose, he would hardly be Douglass Sherley, Mr. Sherley is popular among the men, and also much liked by the women, his literary work being more generally appreciated by the latter. There is a fine, feminine, but not unmanly, quality in his writings, which really only women, or men with a like feminine streak, can interpret and enjoy.
A point of interest is this May 1886 article about Sherley from the Cincinnati Enquirer
A CLUB SCANDAL Douglas Sherley, of the Pelhams, Involved He Hunts for the Originator of the Story, and in His Search Punches a Bank Clerk SPECIAL DISPATCH TO THE ENQUIRER LOUISVILLE, KY., May 3 — Nothing is talked of in the clubs to-night except a difficulty which occured to-day between Mr. Douglas Sherley, Present of the Pelham Club, and Mr. Matt Smith, a member of that body. Mr. Sherley is a man of means and leisure, and belongs essentially to society. HE has written several books and has built an aesthetic house that has been the talk of the town for three years. The Pelham Club members are the younger set of society men and recently persuaded Mr. Sherley to accept the Presidency of their club. Within the last two weeks, however, a movement has been on foot in which twenty members of the club were interested to bring about Mr. Sherley’s removal. The understanding was that the twenty members in question should offer their resignations simultaneously to the Board of Directors. When questioned in regard to this unexpected action they were to say they would not belong to an organization which had for its Chief Executive a man who had been guilty of certain disgusting and unnatural practices that were charged against Mr. Sherley. When Mr. Sherley heard of this movement to-day he went at once to Mr. Matt Smith, a blank clerk, whom he had heard was one of his defamers, and demanded an immediate denial in writing of the nasty stories. Mr. Smith said he had not originated the stories, but had repeated them, and refused to sign the paper. Mr. Sherley, who is a fearless man and very athletic, promptly attacked young Smith and gave him a sharp blow in the neck. Smith attempted to return the blow, but outsiders interfered too quickly, and dragged the gentlemen apart before either was painfully injured. The affair quickly went the rounds, and the scandal has been vigorously discussed by society men all day. It is due Mr. Sherley to say that none of his friends believe the stories which gossips have put in circulation about him. He is an eccentric man, and some of his peculiarities have subjected him to comment, but he is a gentleman, nevertheless. Mr. Sherley has secured a cowhide and a pistol, it is said, and will either thrash or kill the man who is at the bottom of the outrage, if he can discover him.
I have a lot of thoughts about the connection but I'll get back around to that later

Young And Beautiful (JerJor Jay Gatsby! x female OC!) 18+
Summary - Jay could never get over Daisy, he tried and tried after the war but to no avail, until he met her, the beautiful, Audrey Linwood. She was a guest at one of his luxurious parties, and they just so happened to run into each other at one of the few parties Gatsby ever attended.
Warnings - nicknames/ pet names, no more that I can think of.
pt.1
——————💚 ——————
1918 (Jay)
The war was finally over, all the fighting and treachery was over at last and everyone could go home to their families and loved ones. But not Jay Gatsby, he had no one to go home to, no family at home for him, but his hopes were that his summer lover, Daisy Fay, was waiting for him at home in Louisville.
As his train reached Louisville, he was smiling to himself, watching as the crowds of people waiting for their brave soldiers to arrived home, stood at the platform, with signs and open arms.
“She’ll be there.. I know she will.” He said to himself in the carriage full of other soldiers. He stood up and took his bag, making his way out of the carriage.
He walked out of the train and looked around the platform, his eyes scanning the crowd, looking for the face of his lover, the light of his life, the apple of his eye, Daisy.
Ye see yer fam’ly, Captain Gatsby?” One of the other soldiers asked.
“No, not yet, but she’ll be here. I know she will.”
“Well, good luck findin’ ‘er, I’ll see ye around, Captain.”
“I’ll see you around.” Gatsby nodded as the soldier walked away.
The crowd soon got smaller and smaller before it was just Jay standing there. He walked off the platform and into the station, looking at the news-stand and picking up a paper, flicking through the pages and then seeing the wedding notices.
‘Congratulations to the newly wed couple Tom Buchanan and Daisy (formerly Fay) Buchanan.’ Stood out in big, bold letters.
“No, no, this can’t be.” Jay’s heart shattered as he stood there, his dirty uniform clinging to his skin.
3 years later (Audrey)
“Don’t you think it’s a bit, extravagant?” Audrey asked, looking on the mirror at the dress that Jordan had thrown at her from over the dressing screen.
“Not at all, it’s a Gatsby party. In fact, I don’t think it’s extravagant enough…” Jordan smirked and took a drag from her cigarette.
Audrey walked from behind the screen in a beautiful dark green dress. “I never wear gowns like this.”
“You should, it suits you.” Jordan smiled.
“And you’re sure my hair looks alright?”
“Yes, now stop fussing, we have a party to attend.”
*
They eventually got to West Egg and didn’t need directions to Gatsby’s luxurious mansion. Their car arrived outside and bustling crowds of drunken men and women spilled out of the doors, onto the garden and even on the driveway.
“Some people just don’t know how to handle their booze.” Jordan scoffed and took Audrey’s hand, quickly pulling her through the crowds and into the garden. And just like magic, she had a glass of champagne in each hand. “Drink up.” She gave a glass to Audrey.
Audrey took a sip and grimaced at the taste, Jordan just laughed and was soon whisked away into a conversation, leaving her alone. She set her glass on a nearby table and walked through the garden, seeing how neat and well kept it was. Then she reached the rose bushes, they were beautiful roses.
She stood admiring them before being spooked by someone tapping her shoulder. She turned and saw it was a man, a very handsome man, light green eyes, neatly trimmed hair, a smile that could melt butter and a very well tailored suit.
“I am sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you.” He apologised, sincerity dripping from his words.
“It’s quite alright, I was in my own world.” She smiled, accepting it.
“That’s the best and worst place to be.”
“I couldn’t have said it better.”
He smiled, a glimmer in his eyes as he looked at her. “I’m Jay, Jay Gatsby.” He said.
“I’m Audrey Linwood.” She smiled and he took her gloved hand and kissed it. “I must say, you throw a very good party.”
“Oh thank you, I don’t often attend my own parties. But now, I’m glad I chose to attend tonight.”
“I am too…” She looked into his eyes, searching for a story. As she looked at him, the orchestra started playing a beautiful slow song.
“May I have this dance?” He extended his hand.
“I would love to.” She took his hand and he walked with her to the dance floor, and they danced in the moonlight. Gatsby span her gently and the bottom of her skirt flared, the jewelled detailing shining as she span.
Once she returned to her original spot, her hand still in Gatsby’s, his hand on her back as they looked into each other’s eyes. Audrey then looked at his lips, he followed suit. She felt herself lean in, her eyes closing slightly as Gatsby leaned in too.
Once their lips touched, fireworks burst in an array of colours behind them, it felt like they were the only two people on the world.
Gatsby pulled back and looked at her, amazed and mesmerised by her. Audrey admired him, holding his hand and looking back into his eyes. “Fireworks, nice touch…” She smiled.
“I like to try.”
She laughed and he smiled, looking at her as if she were the most beautiful thing in the world. The way her hair sat as she threw her head back, the way her eyes glinted and shone from the fireworks. Utter perfection.
Her gloved hand sat in his as he walked her to the garden. He delicately plucked a rose and handed it to her. “For you, beautiful.” He said softly. She held the rose, the stark white colour standing out against her dark green glove.
“Oh, thank you Mr Gatsby.”
“Please, call me Jay.”
“Thank you, Jay.”
The way she said his name made him smile, but then he thought of Daisy again, how she said his name, how she looked at him, how she laughed… she was always in his mind. Audrey couldn’t replace Daisy. No one could, and he was kicking himself, thinking Audrey would never love him if he was still in love with Daisy.
They stood beside each other and suddenly Jordan rushed over to them. “Audrey!” She shouted. “Oh, there you are… I’ve searched high and low for you, we have to go, I have a golf tournament tomorrow and I can’t stay out too late. I’ll be in the car.” Jordan said and Audrey nodded.
“I’m sorry, when Jordan says it’s time to go, it’s time to go.”
“I completely understand, don’t worry.”
“Thank you for a lovely party.”
“Thank you for attending, and making it lovely.”
She smiled and then heard a car horn peep. She looked apologetically at Jay and rushed away.
She sat in the car, staring out the window as it pulled out of Gatsby’s driveway, the rose still in her hand and Jordan sat at the opposite window, smoking out of it. “So, what were you and Gatsby talking about?”
“Not much, but we kissed… oh Jordan, it was extraordinary. Jay is just, amazing.”
Jordan finished her cigarette, throwing it onto the road and then turned to Audrey. “You kissed? You kissed the Jay Gatsby?! Your first party and you’re already wooing the host… there’s hope for you yet Audrey.” Jordan laughed and then Audrey smiled softly, looking at the rose.
“I suppose there is, isn’t there?” She looked at Jordan and then out the window, reliving the whole party.

Tales of Cherrywood Village
Chapter 1: Welcome to Louisville
Two years into marriage and still with no aspirations to do anything about his husband or have pups, George is pretty sure his life ended at eighteen on his wedding day. Until Fernando throws a dinner party for his new business partner and George suddenly breathes in more life than his lungs had seen in all eighteen years before he was trapped.
This is about drama in a quiet suburb, cheating, many of those around, and secrets that aren't shared over a game of Bridge on Thursdays.

I want to do this before I forget!
2023 was a big year of wins for me, and of course, my Jack Harlow family was beside me through every single aspect of it. Thank you to the ones who continually support me with every reblog, like, and comment and never switched up on me. I am grateful for every single one of you, and I do not take it lightly. I started writing more consistently and posting on here for an outlet to deal with my mother passing, but I never thought I would gain lifelong friends in the process.
Yall cheered me on when I graduated in May
Listened to my vacation stories when I went on my cruise, North Carolina, for a wedding, and of course, the most recent one being Louisville when I met our beloved Urby baby!
And listened to my crazy nurse stories lol

Dec Wrap Up
Twilight in Hazard; An Appalachian Reckoning [4.5 stars]
I found out about this book from my public library branch's Libby section for books about Appalachia and I'm glad. I've been wanting to learn more about Appalachia for a few months now, as I've lived in KY for most of my life but felt like I didn't really know anything. Not truly having roots here as my parents are west coast transplants. This book gives a very thorough history across many decades to the early 2020s.
Covering the coal industry, the OxyContin boom, the major levels of poverty, political corruption, and the shift from physical newspapers to online tabloids in Eastern Kentucky. The last one being that the author used to work for the Louisville Courier Journal and that this shift has actually been more detrimental to rural areas than beneficial. The book is a good starting point for those who know next to nothing about Eastern Kentucky and why it views the federal government and certain social issues the way it does. Would say to read other books in conjunction with this one due to its geographical specificity though. But there will definitely be similarities regarding the surrounding states.
Plus I'm overall tired of how people keep only recommending Hillbilly Elegy as that book is just another "pull yourself up by the bootstraps" story that doesn't seem to care about what happens to the area. Which I don't like that line of thinking as it doesn't account for all the outside forces affecting someone's life and why they make the choices they do. That's not to say they're the uwu helpless sort, just to clarify. Rather, the whole situation is a lot more nuanced than people like to admit and I think the author does a good job going about it all.
Alongside this, I'd simply rather hear from those who actually do want Appalachia to flourish. Even if said person starts out as an outsider. I listened to the audiobook version and will probably end up checking out the print version as there were some things mentioned that I definitely want to research and learn more about.
Catching Fire - Suzanne Collins [4.25 stars]
Knowing the end of Gale's character arc in this series makes certain sentences a shit ton more eerie which is definitely foreshadowing on Collins' part
'He's something of a whiz with snares, rigging them to bent saplings so they pull the kill out of the reach of predators, balancing logs on delicate stick triggers, weaving inescapable baskets to capture fish.'
'Hands that have the power to mine coal but the precision to set a delicate snare.'
'I recognize that voice. It's the same one he uses to approach wounded animals before he delivers a deathblow.'
Apparently I remember the film a lot better than I thought cause I'd be reading certain passages and the movie scene would pop into my head as I was reading it. But just like TBOSAS, it's interesting to discover what they changed for the movie. Even with Collins' previous work in television before THG series.
I understand what people mean when they say Katniss' internal monologue is funny cause I was laughing at her pulling a Timothee Chalamet SNL character break, going 'I'm pregnant!?' knowing damn well she isn't. Yes, Peeta is charismatic but not that charismatic.
That and her struggling to keep up the facade in the games. Like no wonder Snow didn't believe y'all's love bs, beyond his past w/ Lucy Gray
Same with the 'ayo, why is Finnick kissing Peeta?' but then going 'oh, right, cpr is a thing,' which I do think emphasizes how she's 17 without necessarily calling to it. Like a show, don't tell thing cause there's only one line I saw that outright said her age.
Also the attention that Collins gives to implementing folk customs into the story - the herbalist book from her mother's side, the district's all having a diff staple bread, & how district 12 does their wedding
And I am now caught up on the Hunger Series except for the Haymitch book that's about to be released. Reading order has gone; The Hunger Games -> Mockingjay -> TBOSAS -> Catching Fire
Dark Moon: The Blood Altar Vol 1 - HYBE [4.25 stars] Seven Spools of Thread: A Kwanzaa Story - Laurie Loughlin [4.0 stars] Pupposites Attract Vol 1 - Hono Natsuna [4.0 stars]
Has similar vibes to the webtoon My Giant Nerd Boyfriend but the roles are reversed and there are exponentially more dogs involved. But that's where the similarities begin and end. One of those sappy/fluffy, quick reads for when the weather's dreary.
All-New Wolverine: Immune Vol 4 - Leonard Kirk & Tom Taylor [3.75 stars] Given Vol 7 - Natsuki Kizu [3.0 stars] Hanukcats: And Other Traditional Jewish Songs for Cats - Angela Shelf Medearis [3.5 stars] Pupposites Attract Vol 2 - Hono Natsuna [3.75 stars]
The next 6 were rated 3.0 stars just b/c while I wasn’t the intended audience, I still greatly enjoyed them and thought the art style was extremely adorable.
Narwhal: Unicorn of the Sea - Ben Clanton [3.0 stars] Super Narwhal and Jelly - Ben Clanton [3.0 stars] Narwhal's Otter Friend - Ben Clanton [3.0 stars] Narwhal's Sweet Tooth - Ben Clanton [3.0 stars] Narwhal's School of Awesomeness - Ben Clanton [3.0 stars] A Super Scary Narwhalloween - Ben Clanton [3.0 stars] Pack Origin - Kate King & Jessa Wilder [2.0 stars]
I always forget that romantasy is not really my thing seeing as I'm extremely picky when it comes to romance in general. Haven't entirely given up on the genre though.
As implied by the title, it's omegaverse where a character thinks they're a beta and then ends up an omega and their pack/harem is their alpha friends. There was an interesting aspect mentioned offhandedly in the first chapter about how omega/alpha pheromones are used as party drugs by betas. But because this book, despite the multiple povs is mainly framed in the fmc Bliss' perspective so it's unfortunately never explored. Otherwise, this book did make me realize I only like omegaverse in fanfiction b/c the book wasn't terrible.
It is a prequel novella to what seems to be a duology at this point in time. Went into it blind so Idk if the author is continuing it or if it's a completed series. Anyways, I bring this up as the novella does seem to be akin to how designers will make mock-ups of stuff when pitching ideas.
Unofficial Recipes of the Hunger Games: 187 Recipes Inspired by the Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingbird [2.75 stars]
This cookbook, oddly at the beginning, wants you to make everything in the recipe from scratch but the further it goes along, the more it becomes 'yea, buying stuff's fine.' Which isn't necessarily a bad thing but I'd rather them pick a lane
Would mostly recommend it for those who know next to nothing about cooking/baking and are wanting a place to start. That or if you're wanting to make more dinners at home with more vegetables
While it heavily acknowledges the fact that district 12 is supposed to be Appalachia, there's not a single recipe for grits. Closest they get is Mrs. Everdeen's Breakfast of Mush
It also treats meats such as squirrel, rabbit, and even venison at times as being 'exotic' meats. Which, as someone who lives in the south, aren't considered such. So that just came across as weird to me
Taylor Swift By the Book - Tiffany Tatreau & Rachel Feder [1.5 stars]
It's a recap video when I was expecting a video essay but in book form. It's extremely surface level and comes across pretentious as f. And funny enough in a book where you should be allowed to quote the lyrics, there's next to nothing. Or rather it's a single line used so it falls extremely flat when they point out the references. Like it's basic ass stuff you could research yourself going line by line on your own time. That and their quips piss me off.
Quips include [listening to the audiobook so apologies if the punctuation is off];
'If the theme of two girls competing for the affections of one guy doesn't sit well with you, we invite you to consider the following thesis; Cinderella was the original pick-me girl.'
'The choruses of Don't Blame Me and I Did Something Bad could've been sung by Ophelia and Lady Macbeth respectively at karaoke night...'
'Romeo and Juliet wish they had this steamy song to bop to, back in the 1500s'
Not a quip but 'Swiftian'
And to clarify, this isn't to say having this lightheartedness or the attitude the authors have towards old timey classics insults or devalues their work. Because simply put, it doesn't. The classical authors mentioned throughout have been dead for a while now. It's rather that there's an insulting insincerity that comes with treating Swift’s work akin to academia.
