Boycott Eurovision: Yes or No?
There has been a lot of talk on boycotting Eurovision this year because of the Israeli participation and their qualification to the final. Behind everything of course is the subject of money.
MoroccanOil or however it's spelled is one of the biggest sponsors of the Eurovision Song Contest, not just this year but every year. And guess what country this company is from? You got it. It is therefore logical for audiences to boycott Eurovision by refusing to fund the competition in any way. That includes:
Streaming the competition
Buying merchandise
Attending
Voting
If the EBU is not funded then the profitability of having MoroccanOil as a sponsor (and Israel attending) will drop dramatically.
However.
One must keep in mind a few things:
"The big Five are the biggest sponsors which is why they are automatically qualified to the final". They literally keep 5 countries in the final to entice them to keep paying. IN fairness, this is not as much as you might think but still a substantial amount.
They already banned Russia - a country with an incredibly large amount of people (and therefore potential viewers)
The sponsored money has already been given. This is the money that mostly funds the contest.
The participating countries themselves pay a fee. A fee so big a LOT of Balkan countries can't afford!
Most of the money is used for the incredible staging and other events of the competition.
Boycotting Eurovision now in terms of keeping money away from the EBU doesn't really do much in truth. Go for it if you like. It doesn't hurt. But, watching the contest right now is not really gonna change much. A lot of people are already attending (tickets are like 1000 euro apparently btw).
It doesn't hurt, though it doesn't make much difference either to be completely honest with you. My advice is follow the instructions of your favourite artist. After all, this contest is not just about Israel but about them as well. They've all worked so hard and they've been asked to remove all political messages from their performances which is basically a violation of freedom of speech.
Protesting always helps though it is very hard to do IN the arena.
Voting would help if we were all to vote for one person. We all saw last year how Loreen took the crown from Kaarija even though he had like 1.5 times more public votes. And now, Joost is about to be disqualified (cause apparently he punched an Israeli representative who mocked Joost's dead father???). Not voting would basically mean Israel would win. Why?
Italy is not really a political ally of Israel (an example for that would be apology votes from Germany) yet they gave them 40% in the semi finals vote. 40%!?!?. Israel was not even that high on the trends yet they got 40%. But, at the same time, I do not know many people who watch the semi-finals so those who did are either die hard fans or, if those were protesting, people who explicitly watched for Israel.
The jury will 100% give a lot of votes to Israel. I don't like to say it but their song is EXACTLY the type of song they vote for. Another example might be Greece (they are trying something different from a musical point of view) or France (let's face it that man is an angel). I want to say Switzerland but I would also have said Belgium and look where we are. They SHOULD like Switzerland too. In any case the jury can do SERIOUS DAMAGE (again, why Sweeden won even if tHeY'rE nOt SoRrY tHeY wOn)
Governments can push the jury towards a specific result. We probably know where Belgium's 12 is not gonna go (they cut the broadcast) but this is for example a minister in greece:
IF the competition ends up going to Israel THEN the real boycott will matter cause it can start earlier. Prevention of countries participating for example. People not attending at all.
But the best result would be to prevent that all together. It doesn't help that Joost (Netherlands) did not perform today at the Jury show but his recording was shown.
That's all.
My advice is don't watch or don't watch israel to send a message but vote for either Greece, Italy, Croatia or Switzerland or all of the above. The Netherlands too if they participate cause even though I don't want the contest to go once again there Joost has fucking earned it.
Edit: the goal was for israel not to participate at all (and honestly Azerbaijan shouldn't either) but they did, they are, we're here now so...unless the artists themselves step down....

How to defeat Loreen
Loreen has a burrowing speed of about 9.6 meters per second. You are never safe. If you can, fucking run, if she's already started braiding your hair or doing your nails then this will be your end.
Loreen will always be either singing, meditating, threatening her prey, or licking her hair; her inability to multitask is her only weakness.
Do not try to perform reverse psychology, as far as we understand, she does not speak any language nor use any thought, you would simply be confusing yourself.
The best you can wish for is to catch her, once this has been done, please call the Swedish or the Finnish embassy of your country based on who you think should've won Eurovision.
If you do wish to trap her, you will need to utilize a special device that has been tuned on a Loreen song to attract her. Do not try to use a normal net, she will chew and scratch through it - use a specialized Loreen-catcher silver-plaid net, sold exclusively on her merchandise store. (if you cannot afford this item but have made a sighting of Loreen, please attempt to find her manager, who is also dwelling in a forest near you, usually scrambling to find fresh nail polish or fake nails growing on vines, this will make a slight rustling sound heard for about 50 meters – once you are within range of her manager, you may ask him for a discount).
Congratulations on surviving this long, we at Jaja Ding Dong News Network wish you the best of luck with continuing to outmaneuver this beast.
PSA: ⚠️⚠️⚠️ IT APPEARS LOREEN IS ON THE LOOSE ⚠️⚠️⚠️
*announcer voice*
News broke yesterday's eve, it appears the Loreen-sitters have lost track of the specimen. As last reported, Loreen has been seen preying on wolves in your nearest forest, though we frankly can't tell if the person who raised this flag meant praying or preying as they went down with a screech of Euphoria before we could get an answer. Please be on the lookout if you decide to venture into the skogen.
Coverage of the situation will continue as we find out more. Following, an infographic on the Loreen Danger Scale.

2017: Remastered and Revisited
tPart II of last year’s list
In 2017, I went into the Wild West of life- post undergrad. So you think I’d have all the time in the world to focus on music discovery, right? Well, not quite. The website I used to get music from stopped accepting my library card, so I lost the ownership aspect of music. I also fell into musical myopia for trying to like things I saw other people love while struggling to connect to those songs. And my usual sources for music discovery were not as unique as I thought or I literally just got to those artists by summer: Here they are:
Princess Nokia- 1992 Deluxe: Another specific list to praise Princess Nokia? Who’da thought?? NoNo released her first mainly rap album that’s chill, nerdy, assertive, goth, and New Yorker all at once. And don’t forget, she’s a tomboy!
Margo Price- All American Made: I got this from Entertainment Weekly, so I have no reason to miss her. With her bird like vocals (that’s a good thing!), Margo is here to educate us on the wage gap and poverty and become the woke country pop queen.
Jessica Lea Mayfield- Sorry is Gone: Darker alternative country. I forgot where I found her from but enjoy the 90′s influence. I sure did.
Bully- Losing: Of All the 90′s revival alt bands, Bully was still my favorite of 2017. They can handle bang your head rock and slower stuff, too. You Could Be Wrong is a good song.
Leileli47- Wash & Set: Technically, this wasn’t a discovery because I mentioned it in my old honorable mentions. No shade to her, but listening to her new album made me realize how much I appreciate her 2017 one.
St Vincent- Masseduction: I thought I was going to LOVE this album, because I loved Teenage Talk (the song she did for the Girls soundtrack), it was going to be her big crossover pop album, and I liked the lead single a lot, but none of it clicked. Then TV Girl shaded the era with a couple of shady tweets and I was like maybe I don’t like Jack Antonoff? And she reissued a piano reissue of her album which gave me a new lens for the album. Now I realize this album continues the sort of assembly drive nightmare sequence universe of adulthood experiences that I feel with her albums.
Honey Dijon- The Best of Both Worlds: If you like 90′s deep house music, check this out. I feel like after Beyonce’s self titled and Lana Del Rey’s debut album, every pop artist feels like they need every album to be a personal artistic statement and we’re losing things that you could just put on shuffle and dance to. More and more, electronic and rap music are filling those gaps out so it’s time to try out a new DJ.
Roy Blair- Cat Heaven: I discovered him through Brockhampton but stuck around for Perfume and more. I really enjoy his twitter, where he talks about being an independent artist a lot, with things like merchandise designing and purchasing, looking for assistants, planning out performances, or just watching Greg Araki movies in great detail for our pleasure.
Loreen- Ride: I found her for a Popjustice Rate and I’m actually shocked at how high quality this was! I didn’t expect for them to actually like good music. This album is a good gloomy rock mood piece, but it’s accessible enough for anyone to get into it.
Gorillaz- Humanz: This was my first Gorillaz album I listened to because once my MP3 Player died on my way back from a school event and WFUV had a concert thing with Damon Albarn on and it was a fun ride home so I listened. I know they were big when I was in middle school but I just thought they were like emo or pop punk so I never bothered, but I liked this album! The whole album gives me club kid vibes, especially Sex Murder Party. I hear Submission with Kelela a lot at the gym. I probably am the last person on the internet to discover the Gorillaz but at least we can all agree that Damon has a great pick of collabs, Blur, his supergroups, and his solo projects, so at least he’s not still trying to hold onto Britpop?
