Title: Cancer Treatments - The Brutal Bar Fight That Keeps On Hitting: Long-term Effects Revealed #CancerTreatments #LongTermEffects #BrutalBarFight #Survivorship #CancerAwareness #Healthcare Cancer Treatments - The Brutal Bar Fight That Keeps On Hitting: Long-term Effects Revealed When someone is diagnosed with cancer, the primary concern is often with the immediate battle ahead. Surviving surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and other treatments is the only thing on the mind of both patients and their families. But what many may not realize is that cancer treatments have a long-lasting impact on survivors' health, attacking not only the cancer cells but also healthy tissues, often resulting in long-term side effects. The Physical and Emotional Strains of Cancer Treatments Cancer treatments may help kill the cancer cells, but they also damage healthy cells, leading to a range of physical and mental issues for the patients. Chemotherapy, for instance, can cause a range of side effects, including nausea, vomiting, hair loss, skin changes, and fatigue. Radiation therapy may lead to skin burns and fatigue. In addition, cancer survivors may experience emotional distress and anxiety, often related to the fear of cancer recurrence. Long-Term Side Effects: The Brutal Bar Fight That Keeps On Hitting Surviving cancer is never an easy battle. Patients often face health challenges for years after the treatment has been completed. Long-term side effects of cancer treatments have become a growing concern among the medical community. Survivors are at an increased risk of developing chronic health conditions like heart disease, depression, anxiety, and fertility issues; some of these can even develop years after the treatment has been completed. The Psychological Impact on Survivors and Their Families The side effects of cancer treatments don't just impact the lives of the survivors; they also affect their families and loved ones. Changes in the patient's physical appearance such as hair loss can be demeaning for the patient; it can also become challenging for the treaters' families to see their loved one in such a vulnerable state. There is a significant risk of disconnection from the social environment and depression in the patients. The family members of cancer survivors also experience substantial stress and anxiety. The psychological impact of cancer treatment on patients and their family is often underestimated, and more focus is to be given to their mental well-being. Survivorship and Cancer Awareness Long-term side effects of cancer treatments have become a pressing issue in healthcare. Survivorship is an important aspect of cancer treatment, and it needs to be incorporated into the care plan of patients. Most survivors require regular follow-up visits, screenings, and assessments to ensure that they are not developing new health conditions. Also, raising awareness of post-treatment care is essential to improving patients' quality of life. Active survivorship can help cancer patients overcome the psychological and physical scars left by cancer treatments. Summary: Cancer treatments have a long-lasting impact on survivors' health, attacking not only cancer cells but also healthy tissues, often resulting in long-term side effects. Patients face physical and emotional strains during their battles and long-term consequences, which they may face even years after treatment. The side effects don't only impact the patient, but it also affects their families and loved ones. Survivorship is an important aspect of cancer treatment to be considered, and post-treatment care awareness is essential for improving patients' quality of life. #HEALTH Read the full article

                             Benzene-Lord of The Ring
Benzene (BEN-zeen) is a clear, colorless liquid with an aromatic (fragrant) odor. It occurs in coal and petroleum, from which it is extracted for commercial use. Benzene is very flammable, burning with a smoking flame. The compound was discovered in 1825 by the English chemist and physicist Michael Faraday (1791–1867), who gave the compound the name of bicarburet of hydrogen. It was given its modern name of benzene (benzin, at the time) by the German chemist Eilhardt Mitscherlich (1794–1863). The chemical structure of benzene remained one of the great mysteries in chemistry for nearly half a century. The compound’s formula, C6H6, suggests that it contains three double bonds. A double bond consists of four electrons that hold two atoms in close proximity to each other in a molecule. Yet benzene has none of the chemical properties common to double-bonded substances. The solution to this problem was suggested in 1865 by the German chemist Friedrich August Kekule´ (1829–1896). Kekule´ suggested that the six carbon atoms in the benzene molecule are arranged in a ring, with one hydrogen atom attached to each carbon. The ring itself consists of three double bonds and three single bonds, alternating with each other in the ring. The fact that the double bonds in benzene do not act like double bonds in other compounds was explained by the German chemist Johannes Thiele (1860–1935), who suggested that the bonds in benzene shift back and forth between single and double bonds so rapidly that they are not able to behave like typical double bonds. Chemists now use a variety of chemical formulas for representing the character of chemical bonds in benzene.   Benzene is a very popular raw material for a variety ofindustrial chemical reactions. In 2004, U.S. manufacturersproduced 8.8 million metric tons (9.7 million short tons) ofbenzene, placing it in twelfth place among all chemicalsmade in the United States that year.  At one time, benzene was obtained from coal tar, thethick gooey liquid left over after soft coal is converted tocoke. This method has now been largely replaced by a varietyof methods that use crude oil or refined petroleum as a rawmaterial. In the most popular of these methods, toluene(C6H5CH3) from petroleum is heated over a catalyst of platinummetal and aluminum oxide (Al2O3). The toluene loses itsmethyl group (-CH3), leaving benzene as the primary product.Other methods are available for changing the molecularstructure of hydrocarbons found in petroleum and convertingthem to benzene.   By far the most important use of benzene is as a rawmaterial in the synthesis of other organic compounds.More than 90 percent of the benzene produced in theUnited States is used to make ethylbenzene (55 percent),cumene (24 percent), and cyclohexane (12 percent). Thefirst two compounds rank fifteenth and twentieth, respectively, among all chemicals produced in the United Stateseach year. Another five percent of benzene production goesto the synthesis of a large variety of other organic compounds, including nitrobenzene, chlorobenzene, and maleicanhydride, a raw material for the manufacture of plastics.Smaller amounts of benzene are used as a solvent forcleaning purposes, in chemical reactions, and as a gasolineadditive.   As with most chemicals, benzene can enter the bodyin one of three ways: through the skin, the nose, or thethroat. People who handle or work with benzene in theirworkplaces are at greatest risk of exposure to benzeneand should take precautions in working with the material.Because of its serious health hazards, benzene is nolonger included in most materials with which the averageperson comes into contact. On those occasions when aperson does come into contact with benzene, first aidand medical attention should be sought for treatment ofthe exposure.   The health effects of exposure to liquid benzene orbenzene fumes depends on the amount of benzene takeninto the body. The most common symptoms of benzeneexposure include irritation of the mucous membranes, convulsions, depression, and restlessness. At greater doses, aperson may experience respiratory failure, followed bydeath. Even at low concentrations, benzene can cause longtermeffects for people who are regularly in contact withthe compound. The most important of these effects arecarcinogenic. Benzene is known to cause damage to bonemarrow, resulting in a form of cancer of the blood known asleukemia.

Transnational Migration In chapter 12 of the Miller textbook page 241-242 is described as "movement in which a person regularly moves back and forth between two or more countries and forms a new cultural identity transcending a single geopolitical unit." The textbook also describes transnational migration to have effect on the migrants identity, as constant movement weakens the sense of having a home and the "between" take on a new cultural reality. The picture of my house in Cambridge, Massachusetts fits because once I first moved to this street, I went back and forth to Haiti all the time because for two years.  Both my mom and dad were still living there which left me with a sense of being in between cultures and not having a permanent home. If I were to do anthropological fieldwork, I would want to know the long term effect of being a transnational migration looks like for a person. Also, I would like to follow the life of a child as they progress to adulthood, so that I could examine and more deeply understand the long term effect that being a transnational migration has on someone.
Displaced person is described on page 244 in the Miller Textbook, as "someone who is forced to leave his or her home, community, or country". The book also says that displacement can be due to colonialism, slavery, war, persecution, natural disasters, etc. I personally am a displaced person because of the 2010 Haiti earthquake. As a result of this, around 20% of people were displaced, and a portion of this percentage of people went to rural areas and camps. I was lucky enough to be able to take a military plane to the Dominican Republic, and then took a plane to Boston a week later. I took this picture of my house that is in Cambridge, Massachusetts, because I have been living on this street ever since I have moved to the United States. Up the street from here, is where my guardian at the time lived. I lived with my guardian, because I moved to the house without my mom for two years. When my mom was able to come to US, we moved moved down the street together, and have been living there ever since. If I were to do anthropological fieldwork I would want to investigate if the new community or environment that a displaced person moves to has an impact on their adjustment. Furthermore, if a person moves into an urban area versus a rural area does this have a long term or short-term impact on their adjustment period. I think that this would be very interesting, because it would show a different aspect of the adjustment and assimilation process.
