I went off socials for a couple months, and kind of offline in general, as a sort of experiment to see if it would benefit my mental health.

In some ways it did, I made readjustments and realized I wasn't benefitting from some forms of social media in any way. I also realized that some forms (like tumblr!) were actually a source of happiness and creativity without expectation.

I'm happy to be back on tumblr (and sometimes discord) I have also deleted a few other social media accounts permanently which feels rather freeing! Deleting my Instagram account was *chefs kiss* It really felt great :')

One of my favourite illustrations, from the book 'Who Will Comfort Toffle?' (1960) by Tove Jansson.

As a child, I dreamed of living in one of these little houses and look out the window at my extra large neighbours walking by. That in the mornings, when I needed to leave, one of them would graciously lend me a finger to stand on as they lowered me to the forest floor. Upon my evening return I wouldn't bother them, there was a pulley system to get myself back up.

This imaginary world felt so vivid as a child, I could envision everything. Whenever I miss it, I just reopen this book and let myself be immersed in this world again. There's no age limit for imagination.

I'm doing yoga on the kitchen floor, listening to folklore, processing the wwdits finale which I finally watched this afternoon

Last movie: arrival (2016). not a fan of the ending but overall pretty cool movie, and the score was awesome

Currently reading: gideon the ninth by tamsyn muir (physical book) bc my friend LOVED it and i trust her book recs wholeheartedly. also the ocean at the end of the lane by neil gaiman (audiobook for knitting/crochet)

Currently watching: star trek ds9. i'm pretty slow to watch shows so rn im almost done with s2!

Currently consuming: mint tea

Currently craving: blueberry muffins. or really any baked good with blueberry in it. i bake blueberry cookies all the time and they are my favorite thing ever

Haven't been posting much lately cause the ocean keeps lookin' at me

I found my tumblr from when I was 22 and.... It tells me a lot.

It's an aesthetic, incredibly curated, black and white palette, minimalistic thing and I cannot connect with it anymore.

And I don't know, I guess I miss the old me sometimes, but this me at 32 has been to therapy, left an emotionally abusive relationship, and grown up. And I'm so proud of me. And I am grateful that I can look back on a period where I was very sad and confused, and still miss her.

30 degree weather in September... hot air is pressing against my skin, curling the hairs on my neck. I wade into the cold North Sea, it prickles and bites, attacking the heat with it's sharp teeth. The water here never warms, but I trick myself into believing it does as I wade deeper, deeper, up to my neck in cold, salty sea. Ahead of me is only water. Behind me lies land. It feels like the ocean doesn't want me to stay too long, gentle saves trying to push me back to my domain. I'm not quite ready to go!

It occurs to me that we, humans, like to meet nature in these terms. Safely wandering into the sea (but never too far!), taking what we want, leaving the rest.

I want to meet nature in other ways. I'm another year older but I'm no closer to understanding the earth on her terms. Ah well, there's more years to come, aren't there?

I let the sea wash me back to shore.
