Paul McCartney's Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five

My dance moves should be legendary. I tend to balance on one foot and wave my arms around while making extreme faces and wiggling whatever I can find worth wiggling. TickTock longs for me to show off my sweet moves. But I've told them to shove it: my flip phone refuses to tick, nor does it tock.

But McCartney's 1973 ode to... I'm not sure what... is a song that truly rocks. The song is both simple - Paul provides driving drums and piano - and utterly complex - in the last 30 seconds a full orchestra flips the script on A Day in the Life while a ramped-up lead guitar, free jazz horns and a fantastically threatening Moog gets me shimmying all over the kitchen and sets my family in flight (I often forget how many knives I'm wielding).

My almost famous other brother has a theory about McCartney in the 70's: he just smoked way too much weed. Additionally, or relatedly, he was deeply insecure.

And it shows: the record's insert photo of him, above, standing amidst Black children in Lagos, is deeply mortifying: there's Sir Paul, Christ incarnate in white robe and mandalas, come to share his beneficence amongst the poor lesser souls in whose studio he failed to actually record this record. The kids wound up little more than a photo op as Paul ditched them after a few days and layered Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five's infinite layers back in a London studio, the costs for which would have surely provided lifelong income for any one of those kids.

Were I one of the youngins in question I'd be pissed: Wings used them to sell records.

But I'm not them. Rather, I'm just a very marginally impressive white dude with a dollar bin copy of Band on the Run who's cooking homecut French fries and hotdogs for his son's 20th birthday tonight and this song, even after its problem are noted, still freakin' shreds.

It's 40 years after 1985. We're all very much alive. And we sure can't get enough of that sweet stuff Sir Paul gets behind...

I've been thinking about this for a while! In trying to answer it, it actually inspired me to include reference to places they have been in the latest chapter of Ask Me Anything. So thank you, anon!

Lyra and Harvey are not the biggest fans of flying. Harvey famously does not like heights. His Dad is a pilot and helped him feel better about flying. As long as he doesn't sit near the window, he does okay. Taking the aisle seat is better with his long legs anyway.

Lyra does not like flying. She has no problem with heights but doesn't enjoy the experience. She gets very anxious and needs to be occupied to manage her stress levels.

When they travel together, she takes the window seat. Harvey does word and number puzzles to pass the time. Lyra likes to colour mandalas.

So while flying isn't their favourite thing, sometimes you have to step out of your comfort zone to grow, so they have both travelled.

Harvey enjoyed travelling in Europe, particularly France and the UK. He enjoyed visiting historic sites in London and Paris, visited air museums, galleries and libraries. He also enjoyed the food and wine in France.

Lyra enjoyed visiting Europe for similar reasons, history, art and culture. She particularly enjoyed the UK, watching a play at Shakespeare's Globe and following the trail of her favourite author, Jane Austen. She loved visiting Spain for the delicious food and wine.

They have similar tastes in places they like to travel to, and one day, when their girls are old enough, they will take a family trip to Europe.

Since the Timelines Merged, no one has memories of a time before Mutants didn't exist. (some do, they call it Mandala Effects).

When this happened Hermione from X-men universe (mutant version) merged with Hermione from HP Universe (Witch Version), creating a new Hybrid.

Now to figure out more stuff...
