You know, it's rather interesting to me that Taylor Swift's parasocial relationship with her fans is honestly more akin to a YouTuber than a writer's. When I scroll through her tag on tumblr/Twitter, it's far more regarding the connection to her personal life/relationship developments than the actual metaphors/fictional story she might be telling. Everything comes back to how her songs reflect back on her relationships with Joe/Matty/Travis/Jake/insert ex-boyfriend here. And what fascinates me about it is that even though she complains about it, she leans into that very perception because it strengthens the parasocial bond.

The marketing for TTPD so clearly being about Joe Alwyn and the songs to Matty Healy. The marketing/video for Red TV so CLEARLY being about Jake Gyllenhaal, with so many of the new lines in All Too Well specifically being digs at him (I'll get older but your lovers stay my age, casting an actor that looks like him for the video, specific lines in I Bet You Think About Me). The fact that songs like Getaway Car and Bejeweled and Gorgeous and London Boy and Lavender Haze being picked apart at time of release and long after for signs of relationships crumbling. The way she uses surprise songs in relation to her relationship development with Joe/Matty/Travis. The damn TTPD "stages of grief" playlists where she deliberately undid/changed the meanings of old songs just to keep her audience speculating on her love life.

It's not sexist to point out that her wielding her love life is a marketing tool and that the strongest connection to her audience isn't the strength of her writing/the composition of her music- it's her deliberate crafting of a connection between her music and her personal life, leaving the audience invested in her music as an extension of Taylor the Person/Girlfriend rather than Taylor the Artist.

The way our fandom terrorises this man simply because he’s Taylor’s ex is reprehensible. He’s the one who actually has a moral backbone and is brave enough to take a stance on Palestine (all while being sent death threats from Swifties).

summary- you doing your makeup while singing a certain taylor swift song that jobe doesn’t exactly like the lyrics to.

warnings- none just fluff!

You were fixing your makeup before going out with Jobe, in the master bathroom the pair of you shared. Your hands were busy blending in some blush and putting away your concealer.

Your phone was blasting the weeknd’s Die For You and your boyfriend joined you in the bathroom as you hummed along. He tilted his head, being quite a bit taller than you and kissed your lips quickly.

As the song changed, you let out an excited gasp, turning to look at Jobe while hearing Idris Elba’s iconic starting line to London Boy.

“This is my song!” You exclaimed over your phone.

The lyrics rang out as Jobe took a step back and watched you use one of your makeup brushes as a microphone.

“You know I love a London Boy, I enjoy nights in Brixton, Shoreditch in the afternoon,” You sang along with the audio.

Jobe had a pensive look on his faced, mixed with a smile before twisting his face to bite his cheek.

You giggled at him, and then asked, “Why the long face baby?”

His face gave a guilty smile as if you had caught him in the act of doing something wrong.

“I’m from Birmingham though. You love a Birmingham boy,” He said grabbing your waist from behind and resting his head on your shoulder.

“Hm, you’re right.” You told him smirking. Your face lit up with an idea.

The rest of the song, every time it said ‘London Boy,’ You replaced it with, “Brummie Boy.”

His face was in a bashful smile and he couldn’t bring himself to meet your eyes without smiling uncontrollably.

You grabbed his chin and made him look you in the eyes as you said “But God I love the English,”

As you finished the song, You peppered his face and neck with kisses that made him laugh until you met his lips for a long, passionate kiss.

“Can we listen to that song later?” He asked you.

You nodded and chuckled.

“Sure my Brummie Boy,”

inevitably, the day when joe talked about the breakup came, and i'm devastated. joe then confirmed that the news of the breakup went public one week after it happened, not weeks as many of us believed! in 'miss americana,' taylor talks a lot about how he is a down-to-earth person with a very real life and how they together decided to have a more private relationship, away from the tabloids, and i can't imagine how joe felt seeing what he himself calls A LONG, LOVING AND COMPLETELY COMMITTED RELATIONSHIP FOR MORE THAN SIX AND A HALF YEARS turn into a media circus and his ex appearing in rumors with ratty healy three weeks after the breakup.

the way he described the relationship as SOMETHING VERY REAL and that this very real thing was THROWN into a VERY UNREAL SPACE, referring to the media circus after the breakup, broke me. it made me really sick to my stomach.

joe is a great actor and a good person. he knows that the psychotic part of the fandom is always watching his every move online and in public appearances, so he decides to share awareness posts about the palestinian issue, links for financial aid for gaza, and calls for a ceasefire. and this is not new; joe's family has a long history of strong activism on the palestinian issue in the UK. a true man!!!!!!!
