Generating renewable hydrogen fuel from the sea
Researchers use membranes that remove salt from water to help 'split' sea water into fuel
The power of the sun, wind and sea may soon combine to produce clean-burning hydrogen fuel, according to a team of Penn State researchers. The team integrated water purification technology into a new proof-of-concept design for a sea water electrolyzer, which uses an electric current to split apart the hydrogen and oxygen in water molecules.
This new method for "sea water splitting" could make it easier to turn wind and solar energy into a storable and portable fuel, according to Bruce Logan, Kappe Professor of Environmental Engineering and Evan Pugh University Professor.
"Hydrogen is a great fuel, but you have to make it," Logan said. "The only sustainable way to do that is to use renewable energy and produce it from water. You also need to use water that people do not want to use for other things, and that would be sea water. So, the holy grail of producing hydrogen would be to combine the sea water and the wind and solar energy found in coastal and offshore environments."
Despite the abundance of sea water, it is not commonly used for water splitting. Unless the water is desalinated prior to entering the electrolyzer -- an expensive extra step -- the chloride ions in sea water turn into toxic chlorine gas, which degrades the equipment and seeps into the environment.

Pi Kapps welcome Journey of Hope cyclists in Shreveport
Tumblr media
NATCHITOCHES – Members, alumni and friends of Northwestern State University’s Beta Omicron chapter of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity welcomed cyclists from The Ability Experience to Louisiana on their latest stop in a cross-country trek on behalf of people with disabilities.
The south route team of the Journey of Hope, comprised of Pi Kapps from around the country, pedaled through Shreveport to Shriner’s Hospital July 17, where they received a warm welcome.  Beta Omicron Chapter alumnus George Etheredge, who is also a Shriner, organized a barbecue luncheon for the cyclists, patients and visitors. Student members of the Beta Omicron Chapter served up barbecue chicken, sausage, beans, potato salad, watermelon and cookies, before participating in a friendship visit with the children receiving treatment at the hospital.
The Journey of Hope is divided into three routes that span 4,000 miles from the west coast to Washington, D.C. Along the way, team members participate in activities and events to promote a greater understanding of people with disabilities. Through team member fundraising and corporate sponsorships, the event raises more than $600,000 for Pi Kappa Phi’s philanthropy, The Ability Experience. In cities along the route, riders participate in service projects and raising awareness about disabilities.
Several members of the Beta Omicron Chapter have also completed the Journey of Hope in recent years.
Attending Tuesday’s event were alumni Austin Craft, Jonathan Grant, Johnny Oden, George Etheredge, Chris Reich, Sean Austin, Monte Robinson, Steve McCutcheon, Robert Broadwell and Lane Luckie, as well as past chapter Rose Queen Morgan Webb. Student members David Johnson, Logan Esthay, Char Wilson, Blake Blanchard, Zach Linville and Carter Whitaker were also present.

Check Out Limited Edition Prints At The Chicago Printers Guild Publishers Fair Saturday
NORTH CENTER — The Chicago Printers Guild is moving its publisher’s fair to the Constellation venue in North Center this year.
The guild is a nonprofit trade organization for Chicago-area printmakers interested in the promotion of print culture.
On Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., the guild will host over 30 artists at Constellation, 3111 N. Western Ave., for its free Chicago Printers Guild Publishers Fair.
“We started the guild in 2009 and it was small group of like 10 printmakers,” said Rachelle Hill, one of the event’s organizers. “Back then there were so many printmakers in Chicago, but no one really knew each other. So we started opening up our spaces for people who do letterpresses, design, screen printing. It started out as a place where you could bounce ideas off of each other.”
As the guild has grown, its programing has grown to include lectures, workshops, field trips and art exhibits for its members. An archive of its members’ work is also now maintained at the Harold Washington Library.
“Our work in the library archives was studied by YOUmedia students. They looked at our work from the guild and then students picked one printmaker to inspire them,” Hill said. “After they did research on that guild member, the students created their own art.”
Because the guild want to cultivate future printmakers, it’s also inviting the recipient of the Chicago Printers Guild Student Award, as well as students studying printmaking at Harold Washington Library’s YOUmedia program, to showcase their work as well.
The first fair the guild organized was in 2016 in Logan Square. Hill said the decision to move the fair to North Center this year was partially to have it be more accessible for people with disabilities.
“This year there will also be framing available on site at the fair from The Frame Shop,” Hill said. “It’s nice because a lot of people buy prints and they just let it sit in the closet. I do that sometimes. So it’s exciting we’ll have framing available at the fair.”
Hill says the fair allows people a unique opportunity to chat with artists and learn about the Chicago area’s rich tradition in printmaking, and the majority of the work showcased is extremely limited and likely to sell out.
This year the fair will also have on display the large-format steamroller prints created by printmakers at the Chicago Printmakers Collaborative’s 2018 Steamroller event.
Featured Artists at this year’s fair include: • Alexandra Blom • Andrew Mullally • Anna Hasseltine • Ben Chlaplek • Bob Scheffler • Buffalo Buffalo • Chimera Press • Chloe Firth • CROOKEDPAW • Cul de Sac Press • Current Location Letterpress & Curiosities • Dan Grzeca • Deborah Maris Lader • Dylan Roberts • Emma Bilyeu • Ethan D’Ercole • Fata Morgana Press • Hoofprint • Katie Chung • Michelle McCoy • Pegboard Press • POWER WASHER ZINE • Rachelle Hill • Ryan Kapp • Sonnenzimmer • Tabor Shiles • Victoria Marie Barquin • Wes Beeler • Wesley Kramer

Sex With My Younger Sister 3 - Digital Sin
Stepdaughters and stepsons get it on behind their parent’s backs, with each sequence in this excellently directed porn from Eddie Powell being arousing for various reasons — or, more specifically, various positions — thanks to all four featured female foxes.
DVD cover model Athena Faris begins the pork proceedings, in a one truly sizzling blast-off. Faris plays a fetching little twat who uses her more-than-willing stepbro, played by James Deen, to give her a little practice for a porn website on which she wants to be a model, with the horny couple winding up doing the nasty on a regular clandestine basis. Actually, Faris is a much more ordinary-looking girl than her impressive cover photo, which is better, in my opinion, because it makes her more overall accessible. Still, her body is positively superlative, and director Powell brilliantly highlights that succulent figure during the cowgirl and spoon positions, while I like how Deen pulls her legs together during missionary to further spotlight the meaty ass on Faris.
Judy Jolie is a true cutie, really hoping to get down with her stepbrother Damon Dice after she hasn’t seen the lug in four years (since he’s been off at college, spending most of his time, apparently, lifting weights), with Jolie ultimately fantasizing (or is it all for real?) about getting slammed silly by the big brute, with the best pole position here definitely being missionary, seeing how Dice-dick goes so deep into the moist cunt of the seemingly ever-horny Jolie.
In one of the more humorous scenes, Emily Willis winds up succumbing to stepbro Chad White’s big-dicked charms after she accidentally sends him a photo of her nude body, to which he replies with a shot of his raging hard-on; with the best arrangements in this spirited slamming being reverse cowgirl, seeing as Emily has a wonderful spinner’s body and knows how to use it; while doggie is also great, fanny-tastically showing off Emm’s tasty tight tukus, with Chad really slammin’ it good and hard.
I also liked Khloe Kapri’s sequence, given her cute face and all-around luscious figure, with Logan Pierce; she’s always a treat to watch in action, with reverse-cowgirl really being her best pumping position, while she absolutely proves herself the best cocksuckette in the entire movie (in my view), going deep, loud, wet and nasty with Logan-log. Love ya, Kapp!
“Sex With My Younger Sister 3” never stops moving, with, for the most part, simple but engaging stories featuring cute and sexy young women who, quite obviously, like the work they’re doing, making it seem as if it’s anything but work. Worth checking out! Source link

New desalination process presents low vitality alternate to purify salty h2o — ScienceDaily
Offering safer ingesting h2o to people in will need may perhaps be a very little much easier. In accordance to Penn State researchers, a new desalination system is ready to clear away salt from h2o making use of fewer vitality than previous solutions.
“Globally, there is lowered obtain to clean h2o,” said Bruce Logan, Evan Pugh College Professor in Engineering and the Stan and Flora Kappe Professor of Environmental Engineering. “Additional and more, the waters that are being utilised are impaired, possibly because of to salt or other contaminants, so we are observing an raising will need to rely on fewer exceptional h2o resources.”
To beat this difficulty, Logan, and colleagues Christopher Gorski, assistant professor of environmental engineering, and Taeyoung Kim, put up-doctoral scholar in environmental engineering, have arrive up with a desalination process termed battery electrode deionization (BDI). BDI increases upon regular capacitive deionization (CDI) procedures by eliminating the regeneration phase and decreasing the voltage expected to comprehensive the system.
Regular CDI procedures desalinate h2o by separating the water’s ions. A common CDI mobile is composed of two electrodes hooked up on opposite sides of a stream channel. The electrodes seize the salt ions by way of electrical exchanges that take place when an electrical recent is used to the mobile. The mobile is then regenerated by releasing the salt ions in a second cycle by alternating the course of the used electrical recent. Considering that CDI does not call for membranes and has reduced vitality demands than other well-known solutions, it is turning out to be a competitive technology for getting rid of salt from h2o. The difficulty with CDI techniques is that they are minimal by low salt adsorption when making use of the normally used 1.2 volts. Increasing the used voltage does improve the salt adsorption, but it also will increase the opportunity for unintended facet reactions that waste vitality and can create long term electrode corrosion.
In the team’s newly created BDI process, a tailor made-designed stream mobile utilizes two channels. The channels are separated by a membrane and two equivalent battery electrodes are secured at each and every end.
To check the cell’s success, the group fed each and every channel with a salty resolution at a specified stream level though implementing a regular electrical recent to the mobile. Numerous recent densities were being utilised, based on the selection of membrane stacks. The researchers then reversed the mobile voltage stream when it arrived at a low of −0.6 volts or a high of +.6 volts.
The group found out that the BDI process efficiently taken off the salt at stages regular with CDI, though making use of only an used voltage of .6 volts. On top of that, the low voltage expected and resources utilised assisted avert unwanted facet reactions, achieved better desalination capabilities and eaten fewer vitality than traditional CDI.
Considering that the group established simultaneous output of desalinated and concentrated h2o in two channels, it also circumvented the two-cycle strategy, so the process no for a longer period desires to go by way of the regeneration phase. Furthermore, they located that stacking supplemental membranes among electrodes lowered vitality use even further more.
“Other persons have talked about capturing vitality from the second CDI cycle, but it is really genuinely challenging to do, and, as a result, it is really impractical,” Logan said. “Our process avoids that second regeneration action by just switching the captured stream by alternating the course of the used electrical recent. That would make it pretty effortless to run, and it works by using pretty very little vitality.”
While the recent configuration is not suited to desalinate really salty h2o such as seawater, the outcomes clearly show that the BDI system could be successful as a low vitality process for brackish, or slightly salty, h2o, such as groundwater, or for desalinating h2o prior to it enters cure vegetation.
“There is very little that inherently helps prevent its use with seawater, it is really just that as h2o will get saltier and saltier, there are other challenges that we have to contend with, such as elevated vitality use and membrane fouling, that may perhaps cut down its utility relative to other approaches,” Logan said.
The researchers now plan to get the job done on scaling up and increasing the steadiness of the process.
“This is an revolutionary technology,” Logan said. “This is not one thing that is out there and commercialized. It really is one thing that is appropriate at the cutting-edge of new approaches to get salt out of h2o.”

New desalination method offers low energy alternative to purify salty water
Providing safer drinking water to those in need may be a little easier. According to Penn State researchers, a new desalination technique is able to remove salt from water using less energy than previous methods.
"Globally, there is reduced access to fresh water," said Bruce Logan, Evan Pugh University Professor in Engineering and the Stan and Flora Kappe Professor of Environmental Engineering. "More and more, the waters that are being used are impaired, either due to salt or other contaminants, so we are seeing an increasing need to rely on less optimal water sources."
