Is Lofty a member of the Wonka family or does he just like to keep things purely professional?
Lofty likes to *think* he keeps things purely professional, but he has a soft spot for Willy's kid(s). And by that, I mean he is less of a curmudgeon to them. He acts like he simply tolerates them but is secretly rather fond of them.
Now the gears are turning. Perhaps a Bean and Lofty story? I'm thinking Willy has to take a business call, so he asks Lofty to keep an eye on Bean. Chaos ensues. Y'all let me know if you want to see this!

one of my favourite crack headcanons is Wren (OC), Charlie and the oompa loompas having to haul ass and stopping the spoilt brats dying
you think Wren wears gloves for fashion? No it's for getting Veruca out the garbage
and can you even imagine Lofty being salty about this the whole time?

Best of 2023 Movies #13: Wonka
Gene Wilder is hard to outdo. The best when it comes to him is to either homage or come extremely close.
Which out of all people, Timothee Chalamet managed to come extremely close with the prequel of how Willy Wonka rose up to become who he was known for.
Arriving in a European port town with only a hat, jacket, case, and a flair for the theatrical, Willy Wonka takes his late mom’s love of chocolate and desires to share it with others.
Tumblr media
But getting a leg up in a town with 3 companies in a cartel that controls the supply plus a duo designed to bleed any traveler with legalese for all their worth would dampen any spirit.
Fortunately, Willy would meet a street orphan with a dream and a pickpocket who wanted comeuppance and would begin to see his fortunes turn setting the stage for a better way for everyone who dreamed.
It is refreshing to see another optimistic yarn from the creative team behind the Paddington movies that would take the gems of what made Gene Wilders iconic turn and give that a modern day look while keeping the prequel mindset.
Tumblr media
There are songs, new ones that spell out Willy and his hopes, along with the villains and their desires to keep things as stats quo. Along with the classics that get used here.
Like mentioned, it is Chalamet and his homage of Gene Wilder that carries this. But also Hugh Grant and newcomer Callahan Lane that bring us the charm as Lofty the Oompa Loompa and Noodle.
Even the support players that would become Wonkas first staff have their own moments of whimsical joy.
Pure Charm coming out of a charming source.
SUM 22: Timothee Chalamet brings new pure imagination to Gene Wilders iconic role in a prequel that keeps the spirit and dreams upfront.

Lofty observed the production floor with his tiny clipboard in hand. Another day, another dollop of chocolate. It was shaping up to be a normal shift until he made his way to Mr. Wonka's experimental lab.
The tall, lanky man was bent over, tweaking the dials on his latest contraption. Upon hearing Lofty enter, Willy quickly straightened. The color drained from his face just as quickly. He looked unfocused and took unsteady steps backward, tripping over another recent invention behind him and causing a terrible commotion. Pots and pans of ingredients went every which way, making a terrible ruckus.
Lofty rubbed his forehead. Another mess to clean up.
<><><><><>
Noodle came to visit the chocolate factory every day after school. On this particular day, she looked for Willy in the usual places - the production floor or his lab. When she didn't find him there, she wandered to the office. She could hear Lofty and Willy arguing behind the door. That in itself was nothing unusual.
"I just tripped is all," Noodle heard Willy state emphatically as she opened the door. She gasped when she saw his foot propped up with a bag of ice on his ankle.
"What happened?" she squeaked, startling both men.
"I'm fine, I just-" Willy started.
"He is most certainly not fine," Lofty interrupted.
"I have too many projects going on at once. I just tripped over the mess that I need to clean up in the lab."
"After he stood up and nearly fainted," Lofty quipped.
Noodle crossed her arms and stared at Willy sternly while he glared at Lofty. He soon deflated, knowing he was fighting a losing battle.
"I just stood up too quickly is all," Willy replied meekly. His nasally tone betrayed that there was more to it.
"Are you sick?"
"No." "Yes." Willy and Lofty answered at the same time.
"Ok, maybe I'm a little stopped up. But I feel fine."
Noodle came closer to feel his forehead. "Willy, you're feverish. You need to go get some rest."
"If he stays here, he'll just sneak back down to keep working once you leave," Lofty tattled.
"Hey!" Willy retorted. "I don't 'sneak' around. It's MY factory!"
"Well, that settles it. You're coming home with me, then," Noodle demanded. "You can't possibly be thinking of going back to work like this. You may fall into the chocolate! Never to be seen or heard from again."
"Nonsense. The filter would find me or the Oompa Loompas would fish me out. Eventually."
"Willy!" Noodle exclaimed, exasperated.
He held up his hands in surrender and sighed heavily. He didn't have the energy to put up much more of a fight, especially when he didn't have a leg to stand on. Literally. His ankle hurt, his head was pounding, and his right ear felt full like when the chief held him under water. So after giving Lofty some marching orders, he let Noodle lead him out of the factory and onward to the library.
"Mom, can Willy stay with us tonight? He's not feeling well," she whispered when they reached the circulation desk inside. By that point, Willy was looking pale and clammy, much worse off than the beginning of their journey.
Dorothy looked up at him with concern. "Of course, dear. Mr. Wonka is always welcome here. Take him upstairs and help him get comfortable. I'll be up in about an hour."
"Thank you, ma'am," Willy responded with a clumsy tip of his hat before Noodle spun him in the right direction. Upon arriving in their quarters, he collapsed on the sofa like a...well, like a limp noodle, exhausted from the walk and final climb upstairs. Noodle untied his laces, removed his boots, and gently propped his ankle up on a pillow.
"We don't have any ice," she said apologetically. "But, I'll be right back with a wet washcloth for your head."
"Thanks, Noodle," Willy replied gratefully. He quickly settled and fell into a light sleep, light enough that he startled at the sound of the front door hinges squeaking. Like the gentleman his mother raised him to be, he attempted to stand when Dorothy entered the room, but like earlier, he lost his balance and fell back down onto the couch.
"Mr. Wonka! Are you alright?" Dorothy exclaimed. Willy blinked rapidly to clear the fog in his head.
"Lofty said this happened earlier," Noodle informed her mother. "He also has a fever and congestion."
"Hmm, that is concerning," she said. "I'm glad you're here, Mr. Wonka. We'll take good care of you. No sense in you suffering in that lonely factory by yourself."
Dorothy and Noodle set to work making some soup while Willy drifted off to sleep again. Once all the ingredients were simmering, Dorothy instructed her daughter to keep an eye on the pot and not let it boil over while she returned to the library to retrieve something.
Dorothy came back with a medical textbook in hand with two snakes wrapped around a winged staff. Noodle marveled at the gilted letters and embossed details of the cover. Dorothy's nimble fingers flipped to the index, running down the list of words until she got to 'balance.' Turning to the appropriate page, she began researching what may be ailing her daughter's friend.
"Did he say anything about ear pain or pressure?" Dorothy asked Noodle.
"No, I don't think so," the girl replied.
"We'll ask when he wakes. I think I may know what's going on since he is also stopped up."
Once the soup had cooled enough to eat, Noodle gently shook Willy awake and helped him sit up slowly. He stumbled slightly as he stood to walk toward the kitchen table, but Noodle was ready to catch him by the elbow to help him steady.
Willy drooped, obviously not his usual jovial self as he sat at the table, slowly spooning the warm liquid into his mouth. "I'm sure this would taste lovely if I could smell or taste anything at the moment. Thank you for your hospitality," he commented to Noodle's mother.
"It was no trouble at all. May I ask, Mr. Wonka, are you feeling any pain or pressure in your ears?"
Willy paused mid-bite. "Yes, my right ear. How did you guess?"
Dorothy held up the book she found. "This says that congestion in your ears can cause balance issues."
"Huh," Willy said, as he always did when digesting new information.
"If you're willing to let me try after dinner, the book has some tips for relieving the pressure," Dorothy offered.
"Oh yes, please!"
Once everyone finished, Willy offered to help with dishes, but neither Dorothy nor Noodle wanted to clean up the potential mess if he fell. Dorothy instructed him to lay flat on the sofa without a pillow under his head. She dipped a rag in boiling water, wrung it out as best she could without burning herself and placed it in a mug. She gently and precisely set the open end of the mug near Willy's ear without letting it touch his sensitive skin. Noodle played with his hair while they waited. When his ear finally popped, the relief was clear on his face.
"You're a miracle worker!" he exclaimed. Noodle jumped up and down excitedly while Dorothy shined a soft, motherly smile.
"You may feel a little better now, but I insist on you staying here tonight, and possibly tomorrow," she stated in a nice but stern tone, clearly letting him know that it wasn't up for discussion.
"Yes, ma'am," Willy quickly acquiesced, secretly enjoying being mothered again.
