Lockdown Skincare Session: Pamper your skin with these DIYs skincare hacks
The silver lining about this horrific covid 19 situation is that one can spend time with their family and nestle themselves in self-care. Before the outbreak, many of us were busy with our daily lives and work, missing out on time to take care of our skin, but no more procrastination! Pandemic is the perfect excuse to indulge in self-care with ayurvedic skincare ingredients and start pampering your skin to attain youthful and radiant skin. DIYs are an excellent way to conquer essential nutrients and vitamins from natural and organic ayurvedic skincare ingredients. If you are a sceptical person and worry about the health of your skin too much, this is the ideal method to find proper skincare for your skin. These ingredients are mild and have no diverse effects as it is free from parabens, allergens, fragrance, and any preservatives. You are wondering how to get a miraculous skin transformation without spending a fortune? Here are some ultimate DIYs hacks with ayurvedic skin products that’ll solve all your skincare woes with just essential ingredients right from your kitchen.
INGREDIENTS FOR DRY SKIN The sebum (oil glands) is naturally produced from our skin and shields it from environmental hazards, germs, pollutants, and moisture loss. One can reap the moisturizing benefits with just a few ayurvedic skin products from your kitchen or your garden. A couple of oils can take care of your dry and patchy skin, like lavender oil, avocado oil, and coconut oil.
BEST DIYS FOR DRY SKIN Avocado face mask: Avocado is rich in biotin, which is part of vitamin B. Biotin is ayurvedic skincare that helps prevent dry skin and improve skin elasticity. Just mix fresh avocado with coconut oil or honey and apply it all over your face to get a healthy glow and moisturized skin. Banana face mask: Banana is a popular fruit; it helps your digestive system and skin issues. Dry skin is the primary cause of wrinkles and fine lines. Bananas mixed with honey and olive oil can transform your skin, making it radiant and healthy. Honey and olive oil are ayurvedic skin care emollients that deeply moisturizes your skin, keeping it soft and plump. Brown sugar scrub: Sugar is a widely popular ayurvedic skin product that acts as a natural exfoliator. It wipes out all the debris, germs and pollutants from the clogged pores making your skin clean and fresh. Mix brown or regular sugar with coconut oil or olive oil and scrub it lightly on your face. You can also add oats and honey to obtain hydrating and calming impacts.
INGREDIENTS FOR ACNE PRONE SKIN Acne-prone skin or sensitive skin can be troublesome and demand attention and care. Most of the ingredients might not work or can cause irritation and redness. Inflamed skin is usually caused by the free radicals and toxins present in the air and sun rays. The ayurvedic skin products like Milk and neem are rich in anti-inflammatory properties and provide a cooling impact that clears the acne and mellows down the redness. Several other ayurvedic skincare ingredients like turmeric, aloe vera, gram flour, etc., also help to battle irritation and infection.
BEST DIYS FOR ACNE PRONE SKIN Tea leaves face toner: A mix of peppermint, green tea and aloe vera gel boiled in distilled water can be soothing and calming on your skin. Green tea is rich in antioxidants and fights off free radicals causing inflamed skin. Ubtan face masks: Ubtan is a famous ayurvedic skincare product for plummeting acne, blemishes and pigmentation. An amalgamation of gram flour, turmeric, sandalwood powder, rose water and Milk can help defend the skin as they are rich in nutrients and vitamins. Infused with antibacterial properties, it inhibits the growth of bacteria and clears acne. Oatmeal and honey face mask: Honey is packed with anti-microbial properties that keep your skin clean and healthy. Similarly, oatmeal is an ayurvedic skincare ingredient with antioxidants that clear out the germs and radicals from the skin. Mix the ingredients with rose water and Milk to gain multifold results.
INGREDIENTS FOR OILY SKIN Oily skin is caused due to upshot of excess sebum production from the sebaceous glands. Sebum protects your skin from harmful pollutants and allergens and keeps your skin moisturized. Ayurvedic skincare Ingredients like honey, oatmeal, aloe Vera, tomatoes, banana, eggs, etc., can stabilize your sebaceous glands and control the excess oil.
BEST DIYS FOR OILY SKIN Coffee and honey scrub: It is vital to scrub that greasy skin as the excess oil production can clog the pores and lead to acne and inflammation. Coffee is a natural exfoliator that wipes out all the extra oil, germs and toxins. Potent with antioxidants, coffee reduces the inflammation and redness of the skin, giving it a soft and smooth texture. Honey, therefore, is a therapeutic ayurvedic skin care product that provides moisture to the skin. Orange peel powder mask: Although the dried orange powder is easily found in supermarkets but can also be curated at home with grounding dried orange peels. Orange peel powder is a great cleanser, astringent and toner that improves blood circulation and encourages skin tone. Cornmeal and yoghurt mask: A mix of ingredients with a drop of lemon juice rich in vitamin C helps in exfoliating and nourishing the epidermis. Lemon is antiseptic and protects from germs and contaminants. Homemade products and ayurvedic skincare natural remedies are easy to use and provide long-lasting benefits without causing any damage. However, to get hold of full benefits, it’s essential to scrutinize the positive impacts consistently. Understanding your skin needs is crucial as you can only specify the ayurvedic skincare product for your skin in DIYs skincare. Always do a patch test to be sure of any allergies or irritation.

Tessa Virtue On Her Second Act and Finding Balance In the New Normal
We asked Canada’s Olympic darling and Nivea’s new ambassador how her goals, self-care and beauty routine have transformed in 2020
December 21, 2020
In partnership with Nivea
The last 10 months have been *insert another word for unprecedented* for everyone, even for five-time Olympic medalist Tessa Virtue. In some ways, they’ve been uniquely challenging for someone like Virtue, a 22-year competitive athlete who was just a few months post-retirement when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. No more weeks on end of travel, no more rigorously regimented exercise schedule, no more stage makeup, and a whole big world of opportunity to navigate in this New Normal.
FLARE spoke to the retired skating champion and Nivea’s first Canadian ambassador over Zoom (yes, both parties wore real pants—it was a good day!) about finding joy in lockdown, the ways she has been practicing self-care this year, how her beauty and skincare routine has evolved and how her priorities have shifted since retirement.
You retired from professional skating in fall 2019. What has life been like since then?
“It’s been upside down, but that’s from a more global standpoint. For me personally, the more difficult transition was going from competition to touring. After we wrapped up our Rock the Rink tour last fall, there were so many challenges and goals that I had already set for myself, so it was about navigating the path of, ‘OK, how do I go from being so singularly focused [on skating] to seemingly endless options and ideas and plans?’
“One thing I’ve realized is just how pressure-filled that time was. It was so intense and draining on so many levels that there’s a bit of levity that has been nice to embrace. And having new purposes and goals ahead of me also helps because I’m so task-oriented.”
Tell us about pursuing your MBA—all over Zoom, no less!
“I’m doing my MBA through Smith’s School of Business, associated with Queen’s University. I have a bit of an entrepreneurial spirit so I wanted to make sure that I was learning as much as I possibly could about all facets of the business before I truly pick an avenue and take a run at something.
“Also, as a buffer between sport and real life, it’s good to have a goal that is in the not-so-distant future. May 2022 is graduation so it’s this tangible thing that I can work towards, challenge myself in a way that is not so physical, but rather academic.
“There are about 90 students in the class and they’re such formidable, exceptional humans that have accomplished such amazing things in their own realms. I have to admit, I’m much more nervous participating in our school sessions with 90 people than I was ever performing or competing, probably even at the Olympics (laughs)!”
What’s something that has been bringing you joy in these recent months?
“What has been really special is seeing those smaller, random acts of kindness that people have been showing, whether that’s on social media or just in the neighbourhood. When I was home in London for a time, the sense of community was so strong, whether it was checking in on each other, enjoying a driveway chat, or helping with grocery runs. There have been those who have stepped up and showcased their thoughtfulness and generosity, and that is so beautiful to witness during this tumultuous time.”
What has been something that has been challenging for you in the recent months, especially as Toronto settles into its second lockdown?
“The hardest thing is missing that human touch with the people you’re close to. Oddly enough, I always considered myself as not an affectionate person (laughs) and I’m really missing that now. I have two nieces and one is around 9 months old and I get these photos or videos and see her chunky little arms, and I just want to hold her so badly. I saw my other niece at a great distance in a field one day and it was so hard not to hug her. I feel that kind of sadness and loneliness.”
How have you been practicing self-care during this time?
“This time has made me realize that in ‘busy culture,’ people were deemed successful or living a full life if they were busy, and that was sort of my party line for a long time: People would say ‘How are you doing?’ and I would say ‘Oh, I’m so busy.’ And I really was. I was home maybe one day a month and I was always on the go. But this time has made me stop and reflect and really just sit in my emotions, sit with my feelings. And that has led to prioritizing self-care because I know now that I need those moments. I need the quiet time alone to journal or to reflect on my thoughts.
“In terms of working out, I’ve kind of done a full circle where I really had great departure from it for a bit because I didn’t want to feel like an athlete. And now I feel like, ‘Wow, I’m so grateful to be able to move my body and it feels good.’ That hit of endorphins is healthy. So I’m finding little moments like that throughout the day to treat myself.”
What have you been doing in lockdown when it comes to beauty?
“The nice thing is that I’ve been doing absolutely nothing! (Laughs) Letting my hair air dry, no makeup really, and it’s been so refreshing. The Nivea Micellar is a great cleanser that lets my skin be free and breathe. [I’ll use that] and Nivea moisturizer, and that’s been it.
“It’s been great, especially coming off of tours and competitions where the makeup is so heavy and there’s always a hot iron on my hair. I feel like my priorities have shifted and really, that doesn’t seem important at all anymore.”
Do you feel that your beauty routine has changed in recent months?
“Because I’m not all that patient, I’m pretty low maintenance in general. But in terms of self-care, it’s been about making it more of a purposeful choice and a treat to dry brush and then moisturize, for example, or exfoliate and then use Nivea Care Cream. I do it more purposefully and it feels nice to be intentional about it.”
Is there anything you’re going to be changing about your skincare regimen now that it’s getting colder?
“Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! My skin is so sensitive and I’m used to being in a freezing cold, dry rink all the time so moisturizer has always been the key, especially with all that sanitizer now. I have moisturizer in my pockets, in my purse, in my car, every little place.”
What is keeping you feeling good in your own skin?
“There are a couple things. Moving. Working out. Sometimes it’s just stretching or doing a bit of yoga, whatever it is, just moving my body has been really good. And then also positive messages. It sounds crazy but just accepting whatever state my body is in today, in this moment, just acknowledging it and thanking it. [Thinking], ‘I’m grateful and this is what I’m working with and it’s good enough.’
Especially because we’re in this global health crisis, I think it forces you to be more grateful for what you have.
“I did an event with the singer Jully Black recently and she mentioned something about how important breath is right now and how grateful we can be for it when you think about people who are on ventilators. There’s so much to appreciate just with a simple inhale and exhale. I thought that perspective was really powerful, too.
“There are so many stories around right now that make you think, ‘Gosh, the stresses that seem huge in my relative bubble are not really that important.’ That perspective is key, I think.”
What are some of the most pleasant surprises that you’ve had this year?
“I thought I would be really restless if I wasn’t travelling so much, because that’s what I had grown accustomed to, and I was so surprised by how grounded and comforted I felt at the notion of not even seeing a suitcase for a while. That’s been really, really nice.
“And then, because those times are so fleeting when we do get to connect with family and friends, that joy is magnified. That is so special. Every little tiny moment or phone call seems like a more monumental event and I really try and savour all of those moments.”

Lockdown - Jooheon Scenario
It’s Corona time~
Haha, no be careful, wash your hands eat healthy !!!
Imagine being stuck with Jooheon and 6 other guys in their dorm for a few weeks🤣🤣🤣🤣
“Jooheon!” you shouted your boyfriends name from the top of your lunges. The news on your phone, started to make you panic a little. “For Fucks sake! Lee Jooheon!” you repeatedly shouted his name, forgetting about the 6 other people in the dorm.
“Yah! Y/N! Stop shouting so much, we can hear you.” you jumped from your seat on the couch as Changkyuns voice startled you.
“Changkyun, where’s Jooheon?”
“I don’t know, he’s your boyfriend not mine.” Changkyun shrugged his shoulders as he got annoyed by your excessive shouting. The Maknae took your seat on the couch, you followed and sat next to him.
“Y/N, what happened?” Jooheon rushed to your side, as he finished in the restroom. He was gone for a few minutes and did not expect something to happen while he was gone.
“Hyung, next time make sure you’re girlfriend has something stuck in her throat so she won’t destroy my eardrums.” Changkyun playfully teased his older friend and smirked as Jooheon shot him a warning glare. The Maknae turned his attention back to the TV.
“Jooheon!” your voice pierced through Changkyuns brain as he let out an exaggerated hiss. On reflex, you hit his arm. You were serious and you weren’t down for the Maknaes teasing demeanor.
Recently the epidemic virus called CONVID-19 surfaced through the world and hit South Korea. Many Countrys started the mandated Lockdown and it so happened to you. You were reading the news on your phone and grew anxious. You didn’t expected it to go so far and now you’re supposed to stay at home.
“Babe what’s wrong?” Jooheon sounded concerned as your voice sounded extremely worried. He sat down next to you, so you were sitting between both rappers.
“The virus - we are stuck in our apartments for the next few weeks. They announced it just now.” Jooheons eyes widened at your words, but not out of fear but out of slight shock. He didn’t saw it as a big deal and didn’t give much concern to it.
“So what?” his eyes narrowed after his body relaxed from the sudden tension he built a few seconds ago.
“So what? Jooheon, do you know how serious this is?”
“We’re just staying at home for some time, it’s not a big deal though. That only means - we can spend some more time together.” Jooheon grew excited at the thought of you being stuck at the dorms with him for a long time. He grabbed your waist and wiggled you a little with small force.
“Hyung, please keep your bedroom talk in private and not around me. I seriously don’t wanna know about you sex life.” spatted Changkyun, he wasn’t impressed on the news. He was actually quite relaxed just like Jooheon. You were the only one who grew anxious about the whole situation. You felt like a maniac between those too.
“Jooheon! This is serious, we can’t leave the dorms.” You stood up from your seat on the couch and walked towards the kitchen. “Do you guys even have enough food? As much as you’re normally out, I bet you don’t have. Kihyun! How much Ramyun do you have left?” You shouted after your best friend and Kihyun was quick by your side.
“Why are you asking?” Kihyun narrowed his eyes as he looked at you questioningly.
“Y/N-ssi thinks we’re going to die cuz of starvation and the Corona virus.” Changkyun followed you into the kitchen to grab a drink. Kihyuns questioning face grew deeper as he couldn’t understand what the matter was.
“Changkyun, stop teasing me! I’m just worried.” you grew frustrated, you felt like you were the only one.
“Y/N we have enough food don’t worry and even if, Takeout still exists.” Stated Kihyun as a matter of facts. You groaned loudly as wasn’t getting your point. What is the meaning of a best friend when he’s not fulfilling this category. You suddenly felt a pair of arms, wrapping themselves around your waist, a head nustling into your hair and a chest firm against you back. Jooheon swayed the both of you, so you could relax a little.
“Babe, everything will be fine. Don’t worry!” You stayed in your little circle for a while and as you left a little sigh, a person rushed into the kitchen in an even more panicked state then you were.
“Guys! Do we have enough Ramyun somewhere?” Wonho rushed hurriedly to the cupboard and searched for the said content.
“Are you both sharing the same braincell? Or why are you both asking for Ramyun?” Kihyun grew even more confused as both, you and Wonho seemed to talk in a cryptic way. You freed yourself and pushed your boyfriend away from you to help his band mate to find the Ramyun. Jooheon scoffed in disbelieve, as he saw his girlfriend searching for some kind of treasure. “Can someone explain to me, why these two idiots go rampage? And close the damn doors, when you looked through them.”
“Looks like both read the news.” Shownu included himself in the kitchen as he saw you and Wonho searching like hungry loners. Kihyuns eyes switched from person to person, searching for some kind of answer.
“Bro! Explain!”
“The government announced a mandated Lockdown in Seoul and Citys nearby.” Jooheon explained as he continued watching you, going through the fridge. Kihyuns eyes grew three times their size as he now realized why the both of you grew so crazy about food.
“Y/N, Hoseok-Hyung!” You both snapped out of your trance and looked Kihyun. “Let’s get ready, we gotta do some shopping.” Kihyun grew serious for the first time and went to grab his purse.
“Hyung! Please don’t tell me you’re going to buy a whole bunch of toilette paper.” Changkyun joked at his older member, earning a glare from Kihyun before he left the room. You were about to follow Wonho and Kihyun as you got stopped from your tracks as Jooheon pulled you back to him. You looked at Jooheon, a big ‘What the F*ck?’ look on your face. The both of you were left alone and Jooheon looked you dead in the eyes.
“They can go without you. You stay here with me.” his voice was stern and his grip on your arm strong, not thinking of letting go.
“But Joo, If I stay here, I need some clothes.”
“You can wear mine or from the others.”
“I need underwear and I’m definitely not going to wear one of yours. That’s nasty Joo.” you deadpanned his statement in a few seconds. Jooheons gaze softened like his grip on your arm.
“Okey, then let’s head to your apartment and grab some of your clothes.” Your boyfriend dragged you out of the Kitchen and went to grab his stuff and your keys.
“Why do we have to pick up my clothes? Isn’t it more convenient if you grab your stuff and stay at my place?”
“I’d loved to stay at your place, so we can have some time alone. But I guess Kihyun wouldn’t like the idea of both of us being completely alone... And he knows how much you love food. I bet he’ll be scared to know that you won’t be able too eat cuz you’re trying to save up a lot.” You pout at Jooheons words. “And it’s more fun being with six more dudes don’t you think?” You gave in and went to your place with Jooheon, to grab your stuff before the official lockdown started.
~
“Joo?” Jooheon hummed to you as you called his name. “I’m bored, play with me!” It has been a week now since you, your boyfriend and six other dudes got stuck in the dorms. You had your fun times and stressful ones, sometimes you would argue with some of the member (mainly Changkyun, because he kept on using your skincare products, since his were empty). You laid across from Jooheons lap, as he worked on some editing for a soundtrack. His laptop laid on your ass and kept it warm. Your request plastered a smirk on Jooheon lips, he licked them afterwards as specific thoughts went through his mind.
“And what should we play babygirl?” Jooheons voice hinted some sexual vibe.
“Don’t think nasty Joo, I didn’t mean this kind of play.” you laughed at his still teenager like mind. Suddenly, the ticklish feeling of Jooheons fingertips made you squirm in your position and a loud yelp left your lips. Jooheon positioned himself on top of you, sitting on your pelvis as his fingertips run over your sensitive spots. Giggling and laughter filled the room until you were out of breath and begged for mercy. You laid on your back, facing your boyfriend from your position. A big smile spreading your cheeks. Jooheon leaned down and kissed your lips firmly, one hand cupped your cheeks as the other steadied his body above from you. His lips moved passionately against yours, you followed his rhythm. His tongue licked the bottom of your lip, asking for permission to enter. His hand started to explore your body, and your body gave in as a moan left your lips. An innocent act turned into a heated make out session until...
“Yah! Lee Jooheon! No Sex in the dorm! Especially since we’re stuck together!” Kihyun ran into the room, without knocking. He didn’t expected you two in a situation like that. Jooheon reacted quick and jumped off of your body, his embarrassment was visible through his now deep red cheeks and shy smile. You couldn’t hold back the light laugh coming from you. “Food is ready.” Kihyun glared at you two and left the room. Jooheon and you exchanged looks and broke into a fit of laughter, your boyfriend collapsed next to you. As your laughter died slowly down, Jooheon gave your cheek a quick kiss.
“I love you Y/N.”
“I love you too Joo.” you gave your boyfriend a warm smile.
“Now I wish we were stuck in your apartment though.”

☁️Spring Beauty Favorites☁️ My beauty routine is one of my most favorite parts of the day. Shower, skincare and makeup now occur somewhere around noon, which is a weird habit that could only be developed during lockdown. I wake, do emails and work, move my body and shower midday before returning to work. Is this weird? Surely I can’t be alone! A few of my favorites right now: @nyxcosmetics Born to Glow concealer (so cheap and I continue to reach for it over my more expensive under-eye brighteners) @narsissist blush in Luster. Its peach. It’s pink. It’s glowy. @sarazucker guifted me this ages ago and I’m currently using up the last bits before re-upping. My favorite part is dusting on the tip of my nose and upper orbital bone in addition to cheeks. @maybelline Brow Extensions. Brow pencil plus tiny little fibers that make my brows appear more bushy. It’s perfect for in-between brow tint sessions. @revlon Kiss Lip Tint in fancy rose. The formulation continues to impress me – part tint, part oil? Very odd but the color is literally perfect. @athenaclub All Day Deo in No. 2 Rose Vanilla. The scent is not as feminine as it sounds – there’s this masculine undertone that is just sooo nice. @traderjoes dry shampoo. Whole podcasts are devoted to how good TJ’s beauty dept is and this dry shampoo is my favorite. No chemicals! No weird powder smells! No aresol. V. cheap!! What are you using? What new products do you bring back out come Spring time?

Progress Report WEEK 13!!
PROGRESS REPORT WEEK 13!!!
What is working?
As this course comes to a close I am feeling very proud of how far BitSimple has come! It is hard to believe that 13 weeks ago I was not even sure what type of business I was going to choose! I’d been leaning towards making my line of skincare products- but since COVID made physical sales very hard, I decided to go with a SERVICE BASED business model.
I’m so glad I made the decision to offer on-line and telephone crypto coaching sessions as I was not directly impacted by lockdowns.
What is not working?
Actual sales are slow however I have had many un paid clients. I have waived the set-up fee for a number of friends just for the EXTREMELY valuable learning opportunities each coaching session provides me. I do not consider this a loss of revenue as it contributes greatly to the overall success of my business.
I am learning that my personal confidence has grown enormously over this past 13 weeks. I held true to my commitment to myself to EVERY DAY dedicate time to researching and investing in various crypto and tokens. As a result My knowledge base and community of connections to experts in various sectors has grown (along with my portfolio!!). I can now confidently assess and discuss crypto goals and needs with my clients. I was shaky at first but with each day I grow increasingly excited about my next challenge! (
What will Sarah Synthesizer do next? !?
Stay tuned for the exciting news!! 😀🎉

Pride 2020 & Beyond: The Journey of a Female Transgender Software Engineer
2020 has been quite the year so far. From the recent black lives matter protests to the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown, which has put quite a damper on the yearly pride parades in city streets around the world. We wanted to look inside of the up-and-coming beauty tech startup, Mira, the world’s largest catalogue of skincare & cosmetics products, ratings & reviews covering thousands of beauty brands, and gather some feedback from their team about their take on Pride in 2020 and the future of it.
Below is an enlightening, must-read Q&A with Jess, Mira’s first senior female engineer.
Tell us more about yourself?
My name is Jess and I’m a software engineer here at Mira. I was one of the first developers to join the team, and their first senior female engineer. I am a transgender woman, who has been transitioning for just under 3 years. I am passionate about both data and beauty and feel lucky I have found a place where I can live up these two passions at the same time. I believe in the transformative and empowering power of makeup, because it’s brought me the confidence boost that I needed.
Do you think virtual Pride parades are here to stay post COVID-19?
I hope so. A large part of Pride is to be visible, be seen, to get out there, and let people know that we members of the LGBTIQ+ community exist, matter, and are here to stay. Some of us still can’t get out of our towns to go celebrate in person, and with COVID19, virtual events are an opportunity to provide greater access to educational and allyship resources to all. I am confident virtual pride events will find their purpose, separate from physical parades and celebrations which are as important to the community.
How much do you think Pride events will grow to 2021 worldwide?
It will grow every year, especially as more and more allies become aware of the importance of LGBTIQ+ rights. Until we are all recognized as equals under the eyes of the law, we can expect more people to come out in support of the community. While acceptance grows for some, we are still facing major challenges in the United States. The overall homicide and suicide rates of transgender Americans is higher than that of cisgender individuals. Three in ten young trans people attempt suicide in the country, and the average lifespan of a Black transwoman in America is about 40 years old. Violence against trans individuals is increasing, and it’s not helping that trans rights are under perpetual attack by the Trump administration. This is what the world needs an LGBTIQ+ Pride Month for, more than ever.
Tips for beauty brands to engage customers during Pride?
As a transwoman, one of the biggest hurdles I encountered was having little experience or education in applying makeup and beauty products; I had never been taught at an early age, unlike most women. More education, acknowledgment and accessibility would massively improve the experience of trans and gender non-conforming people in navigating various beauty products. A good example is beauty classes and tutorial sessions with makeup artists. There is no need for custom trans makeup – I am a woman, like any other woman. The only difference is that I didn’t have access to beauty education until I became my true self in and out. So, I have a heck of a lot to learn! We here at Mira are achieving this by improving access to information on all things beauty, regardless of how you self-identify. And we offer the most supportive and inclusive community.
Tips for business to engage and encourage employees to support Pride?
Raise your voice. Or seize opportunities to have one. Some formal diversity and inclusion training is absolutely necessary, and NOT just because it’s Pride Month. We are all different, we all respond to things differently, and it’s important to acknowledge that. Pride isn’t just the time to show off your rainbow logo, it’s not just a time to show your values externally. It’s a time to show your values internally, including normalising name tags / pronoun pins for everyone, not just those who request them, and protecting LGBTIQA+ people from being “outed” or exposed. Coming out is a personal experience and process, and to each their own time.
Any Pride makeup tips for virtual event participants?
Be creative, be fearless, be you. Wear your colors proudly. I personally love seeing pride flags and colors around the eyes, particularly on the eyelid, crease, and brow. I would do this, but unfortunately me trying to do any makeup around the eyes scares me because I’m so terrible at it! Need more practice, practice, practice!
How can a novice support Pride online this year and next?
Pride is for everyone: every marginalized group – and there are quite a lot! Join in, positively support and talk about it within and outside their social group and donate to affiliated charities. I have seen first-hand the kind of work these charities (namely the San Francisco LGBT Center) do for the community, and it is nothing short of incredible. Donations can impact so many lives.
Thoughts on the Pride movement the past few years?
I hope 2020 Pride will be remembered for the Black trans community. And I hope it will stay that way: Pride is about giving visibility to those who need it most, which hasn’t always been the case in recent years. I think much of Pride has become too corporate and too much about partying and sponsorships, rather than being seen and heard. While it is a step forward that companies are willing to advertise to us and with us in the LGBTIQA+ community, where even a decade ago this would be seen as financial suicide, it’s still little more than tokenism in many cases and does not really give anything back to the community. Much of the advertising ignores smaller parts of the community, in favor of more “accepted” segments. This needs to change.
What do you think Pride parades will look like in 5 years from now?
More inclusivity. Much larger crowds and more allies I would hope too. As misinformation about the transgender and non-binary community continues to clear up, I would expect to see a greater proportion of those groups represented within Pride. It’s actually what the LGBTQIA+ community is expecting from brands: Be part of leading the charge on true inclusivity, just not the politically correct one.
Cheers to Jess for providing such a great take on the pride movement and helpful feedback for other transgender professionals too. Although Pride is very different this year, it will be celebrated with much love virtually around the world. So, if you’re looking for some ideas for your virtual pride parade with friends, family, and supporters everywhere, Mira has provided an amazing list of pride makeup looks for 2020 to consider using for your upcoming virtual Pride Parade this year.

ohmygod i miss my dorm so much!!!! i was in a hurry to leave (bc they had just announced the week-long lockdown), so i didn’t have time to get a lot of stuff. i literally just have a week’s worth of clothes, my gadgets, and my binders! good thing i have a lot of clothes at home. however, i didn’t even bring my stationery and desk stuff because at that time, i thought i could go back in a week. i also forgot most of my skincare stuff and my hairdryer. oh how i regret bringing so little! these are literally just miniscule, simple things, and i’m so grateful that i’m safe at home right now. but i can’t help but miss them. i miss my roommate and all the late-night dinner/gossip sessions we had. i also just miss the vibe there, you know? college was tiring, but i miss the hustle and bustle of city life, as well as the peace that being alone in the dorm gave me ☁️

LIFE IN PANDEMIC !..And, This Too Shall Pass!
Just a month ago, the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic. Is it just me, or does it seem like six months already?
Meanwhile, we’ve all learned to wash our hands, wear masks, and for God’s sake, don’t touch our faces. Seriously. Most of us are probably over the initial shock. But as the crisis stretches on, we’re learning the new challenges and opportunities that keep popping up in our day-to-day lives.
This is the most crucial event in our lifetime, so what are we learning, what are our takeaways from this life in a pandemic ?
1. Find Your ‘Me-time’
Weren’t we all complaining for the time we used to not get for ourselves? Sitting at office, complaining about not getting time to do an online certificate course, or just look for new jobs/opportunities? Be it learning a new skill, a new language, practicing our hobbies, do yoga, cooking our favourite meal, deep cleaning the house, organise or declutter the living room, or taking care of our physical & mental health, do exercise, or just to get a peaceful home facial? Let it be staring at sunset or sunrise, or just to get enough sleep and do nothing but acknowledge every little things, look back to the memories and spend time with our own selves and also all those self-care sessions we used to plan and rant to our friends for not getting enough time to accomplish. Folks, are you listening ? Aren’t we all there, in lock-down and doing Work from home? Deep down, we all know that we won’t get this phase or the opportunity (taking it positively) of staying home again. Social distancing is a good test of our self-entertainment skills. So, now’s the time to indulge in our curiosities. Whether it is knitting, kite-flying, or any new learning; now you have a chance to dig into the details. This is a golden opportunity for all of us busy folks to take some “me time.” Staying home, doing all the mundane things are the kind of underrated therapeutic things, that not just help us keep ourselves occupied but also heal our minds in many ways. So why not, get that extra sleep, make a skincare routine, exercise & introspect our thoughts. Hope we all will be grateful later for the time we seized!
2. Juggling With Jargons; Make the Best Outta It
With stay-at-home restrictions, restaurant, bar, and business closures, folks are enjoying the delightful spring weather, and chatting with family, friends, neighbours and their dear ones. The interactions are a breath of fresh air – literally, and an instant cure in this depressing phase. Also, not to forget, we’re juggling new jargon. Just think of all the unknown and rarely used words and phrases that have become common in our everyday conversation: coronavirus, social distancing, flattening the curve, quarantine, incubation period, shelter in place, asymptomatic, exponential, community spread, epidemiology, and what not! We were always interested in increasing our vocabularies; we could have skipped these terms though.
3. Take A Pause
Here’s our chance to hit the pause/reset button. Natural disasters happen somewhere on the planet every day. On the other side of the globe hundreds, and thousands, of people lose their lives. But this crisis is happening in our own back yard … everyone’s own back yard. For all of us, dire concerns, forced isolation, and radical changes in our routines have given us the chance to pause and reflect on who and what is truly important in our lives. And hopefully, when it’s all over we’ll return to normal with a clear awareness of our real priorities. And, hopefully when we get back to our normal lives safely, we won’t take things, every little thing in our lives or in the planet for granted!
4. Halt the Screen Addiction; Filter the Information
Too much time, TV, and internet mean that we’re all suffering from news overload. When bouncing from page to page online it’s easy to be sucked in by sensational clickbait. For example: “500 Positive Coronavirus Tests in 24 Hours.” What the headline conveniently leaves out are the 2,000 negative tests. Being a Journalist, I understand the need for attention-grabbing titles and catchy headlines, but it’s important to keep in mind what you absorb and how you react to it. Your mental health and stress level will be much improved if you try to get the whole story and understand the real implications of what you read – and don’t panic. These days, We’re even MORE dependent on the internet. Whether for better or worse, with the ongoing or recurring need for social distancing everyone will become more dependent on the internet, social media, and other online resources for their daily lives. If you believe the internet is a panacea then we’re heading into a better world, but for those who think cyberspace is a seductive mistress depriving us of real, face-to-face interactions, it’s a slide down a slippery slope. But whatever it is, our mobile phone/laptop/tab have become our new friends even being at home, with our family around. But, It is all about sharing our space and spending time wisely. Whether it is good to connect over the virtual world or just for the sake of killing time during lockdown, scrolling through memes, insta-feed and fb walls; We somehow forget our real existence. See, all I want to convey is not to get too carried away with others’ throwback travel stories or beautifully garnished food pictures. We all have our own pace and we all are doing pretty good. Love the normal and stop chasing for the best. We aren’t proving anyone anyway. So, why not baking that chocolate cake, making a not-so round chapati, or just enjoy a plate full of panipuri with our loved ones over fun & laughter, and without the pressure of getting a perfect click for social media. Let’s capture the memories not for Insta but for our own happiness. Let’s get over the perfection & celebrate the flaws, meanwhile learn, improve & Grow!
6. Prepare For The Long Game
We all desperately want things to return to normal … and fast. But it doesn’t take a pandemic to do that, given the off-the-charts spread of COVID-19, it’s going to be a long time before the planet gets back to anything approaching normal. As every one of us keep, asking, “Are we there yet?” only makes the trip seem longer. So, why not keeping that optimism in a positive way as the world is healing slowly, and gradually. Also, be happy for our Mother earth getting time to heal from the harm we humans have caused to it. We shall prevail and overcome this phase, may not be soon but definitely someday; till then let’s enjoy the clear & colourful sky, clean water, chirping of birds, green leaves on trees and all that little things of nature we fail to admire!
A quote to sum things up:
“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass,
it’s about learning to dance in the rain.”
Love & Healing

Medi Facials: Get Your Facts Straight With This Latest Trend
Skincare has matured, and millennials are not skipping a beat when it comes to taking care of themselves, their appearance, and their diet. Because the face is thought to be a doorway into one’s personality, all self-care revolves around it. Have you observed a noticeable spike in demand for different facials? People have started calling facial experts home to engage in pampering sessions now that we are in open-shut lockdowns, while others are still traveling to professional dermatological clinics to get these facials done. Here is some guidance if you are not sure which one to pick.
Indian women are accustomed to visiting a local salon for monthly facials. For a couple of days, women use this beauty routine to revitalize their skin and make it gleam and velvety. Do our salon facials, on the other hand, do more harm than good? They are, it turns out. So, how can you get a long-lasting radiance? Without compromising, a Medi facial comes to the rescue.
Our expert doctors create medi facials that are specifically tailored to your skin’s needs. Your skin is examined by our doctors, and treatment is recommended based on the type of skin and concerns. Skin feels pampered, relaxed, and luminous after a medi-facial treatment. Your skin will feel healthier and softer as a result of regular medi-facial treatments.
First and foremost, when selecting a facial for your skin, you should consider your preferences. If you simply want a general glow on your face, a salon facial will suffice, but if you want your skin to notice a difference, a professional facial is required. Well, dermatologist facials/medical facials are gaining a lot of favour over traditional/salon facials for a variety of reasons, some of which will be discussed ahead. For that, we want you to know some basics about medi facials, without which we do not recommend you to opt for them.
Medical facials are more effective since they get deeper into the skin.
One of the main reasons why medical facials beat salon facials is that they help you achieve amazing skin from the inside out. Salon facials, on the other hand, just address the top layer of the skin, which is insufficient for long lasting healthy, bright skin. The following are a few examples of professional facial treatments that are available and trendy in the market today:
-Peels that are both chemical and organic
-Treatment for clogged pores
-Treatment for the under-eye area
-Treatment for whitening the lips
-Treatments to make your skin sparkle, and so on.
Facials performed by dermatologists are tailored to your skin’s needs.
Although there is a wide range of facials available in salons, none of them are tailored to your skin type. On the other hand, If you go to a dermatologist for a medical facial, the first thing you will get is a complete skin examination, which is necessary for determining your skin texture and type. The finished product is as unique as your radiant skin.
On a cellular level, medical facials function.
The full shedding of human skin takes about 3-4 weeks. Medical facials performed by dermatologists become the preferred treatment over salon facials at this point. The treatments are intended to speed up the process, allowing you to achieve radiant, healthy skin almost immediately.
How does it exactly work?
Medical facials, as opposed to salon facials that focus on how you feel, are supervised medically, according to Eravio Experts. Medical facials work beyond the skin’s surface layers, addressing the underlying causes of problems including acne and tanning. Salon facials, on the other hand, have a short-term effect, modifying the appearance of the skin. Salon facials, which place a greater emphasis on this, are more popular, but they simply serve to energize you. Medical facials, on the other hand, address the entire cycle of skin regeneration, including cell shredding.
Only a professional dermatologist or a medical aesthetician can provide you with a medical facial. Get connected with Eravio experts to confirm if you are thinking about Medi Facials.

PRP Treatment
The lockdown opened most of us up to trying new things, we failed at some and won at others. But when it comes to our skin and hair, winning is the only way we want to go. However, this isn’t the case most of the times. We try skincare and hair care products to improve our skin and hair quality, but sometimes rather than doing us good, they make the situation even worse. When it comes to taking prescribed medicines, we rarely wish to go that way. So what should we really do?Luxurious hair, glowing skin, NO side effects. Sounds like a dream, huh? Well, it isn’t if you know about PRP treatments. PRP has become one of the most famous cosmetic treatments soon after the time it stepped into the medical world. From big celebrities to dermats themselves, it has been a fan favorite since the past couple of years. Is it because of the no side effects part or there is something more to this? Let’s take a look one of the best prp treatment in delhi!PRP for FacePRP treatment which stands for Platelet Rich Plasma treatment is a non-surgical procedure. When it comes to our face, it is designed for people with fine superficial lines, open pores, lost facial volume and a reduced skin texture. The treatment also goes by the name of PRP facial. Platelet and plasma are the two major components of our blood. Our body’s healing process involves new cell growth which is a cause of the hormones contained in platelets. The treatment seeks to rejuvenate the skin by providing a natural glow and shine through the use of your own blood platelets/cells to stimulate new collagen production. The increased collagen production in turn tightens open pores, reduces fine lines and gives you a healthy and flawless looking skin.Since the treatment uses your own blood to improve your skin condition, it is really safe and effective. There are no side effects and hence, you shouldn’t worry whether or not it’s the right thing for your skin! How is a PRP facial done?Seems like a complex and a quite scary process. Doesn’t it? Well let’s see how it actually works. The first and the foremost step is applying a skin numbing cream to the areas which are going to be injected. Depending upon the area to be treated, a certain volume of blood is taken out. This volume usually ranges between 10 to 30 ml. The blood is then centrifuged for 15-20 minutes. The centrifugal procedure involves separating the platelet rich plasma from the haemoglobin. After separation, the plasma is injected into the skin of the treatment area. This procedure normally takes around 1-1.5 hours. For visibly good results, 3-4 sessions are required at intervals of 4-6 weeks. When should I get PRP Facial? One of the major advantages of the treatment is that it doesn’t have any side effects since its your own blood. Apart from that, it is not limited to anyone. Hence, anybody who is wishing to get any of these results can give it a try.· Reduced pore size· Even skin tone· Reduced fine lines and wrinkles· Treatment of sun damage· Reduced hyper pigmentation· Improved acne scarsAfter the procedure, the patient can have mild swelling or redness for a few hours. There is no pain and hence the patient can get back to his/her routine activities soon after the treatment ends. Also, the treatment is not surgical, your skin will look naturally flawless and it won’t seem like you have anything artificial done to it.PRP for HairThe term “Platelet-rich plasma” suggests that platelets are more concentrated in PRP than in regular blood. But do you know why? Higher concentration of platelets is useful as platelets secrete growth factors which are thought to assist in wound healing and tissue regrowth. What about PRP for hair? When it comes to hair loss, the blood is drawn from the scalp and then put into a centrifuge which separates it into different layers. Only the platelet-rich plasma is taken and injected into the scalp for it to reach the bottom of the hair follicle. It stimulates specialized cells named dermal papilla cells, which play a vital role in hair growth. Are there any risks associated with PRP
treatment for hair?Since PRP therapy involves injecting your own blood into your scalp, the risk factors are low. However, unlike PRP facial, PRP for hair may involve certain risks like-- Injury caused to blood vessels or nerves- Calcification at the injection points- Scar tissue- Negative reaction to the anaesthetic used in the therapyBefore jumping into getting a hair loss treatment using PRP done, make sure you consult your doctor regarding all the possible risks associated depending upon your health condition. In our clinic Prp treatment cost in delhi is very reasonable compare to other clinics.

(at Portland, Oregon) https://www.instagram.com/p/COvJ8S_BmLB/?igshid=wm64uve215zt

Consumer Electronics Show Update: 7 Trends to Watch
At the 2021 Virtual CES (Consumer Electronics Show), we met so many amazing and innovative brands that are making it easy for consumers to adapt to our new WFH. The trends coming out of the show are taking wellness to a new level with at-home, outdoor, and business-friendly technologies and platforms all promoting accessibility and high-quality performance.
Going into 2021 with the pandemic continuing and some lockdowns still imposed, it’s more important than ever to showcase your brand and ideas at virtual shows like CES. Here are some of the top trends we saw emerging out of our meetings this year:
Wellness, Made Easier
Healthcare has been a main topic of conversation, increasingly taking center stage over the last year and focusing on how consumers can have easier access to basic care. Launching a need for easy and at-home healthcare programs and devices, the brands at CES didn’t disappoint with new technologies that fit right into the homes of many. A few standouts:
Binah.ai is a new technology that has just launched this winter, allowing users to virtually monitor their vitals. It has been designed to directly align with the COVID-19 pandemic, giving customers access to track their own health and nutrition. The app makes healthcare more accessible for all, and it is easy to use!

Lify Wellness, dubbed the world’s first Smart Wellness Remedy System, was created with the vision to make a healthier lifestyle easily accessible for everyone. Lify offers personalized wellness solutions by reinventing traditional medicinal wisdom with sustainable technology. This year, the focus is on energy, and with people staying at home, the desire for a quality, health-focused brew or tea is climbing. With the help of creating new formulas and monitoring brew usage, Lify Wellness allows customers to find their wellness solution in a cup of freshly brewed wellness tea.
MoviWear is a device that monitors and records vital signs in real time so patients or seniors can be monitored by caregivers or staff remotely. The device, a readily wearable watch, send alerts to caregivers via the MoviWear APP platform when there are any changes in vital signs. There are three buttons on the watch–a dialer for calls, one for three emergency contacts, and if you press and hold the SOS button, it will dial an emergency contact. MoviWear is partnered with medical path companies and is a great way to remotely monitor vital signs.
AXIR Engine is the world’s first AI-powered disease risk engine and is designed for early cancer detection. The company says it can predict user risks for developing severe COVID-19 cases and other diseases while providing users with an individualized health program. AXIR Engine takes biometric screening data and produces a heat map to dynamically analyze and predict disease risk, precision health, and recommend food and supplements best suited for the user’s personalized program.
LED and light therapies have been leading the way to solution-based technology in the world of wellness. This trend has been around and looks like it is going to stick for all those who can benefit from light-based solutions to everything from allergies to skin and hair care. FluoLabs is designing a new way to treat allergy symptoms. Users can hold the rechargeable device to their nostrils, click a button to activate six seconds of light therapy, and repeat on the other side for a total 12-second treatment to common allergy symptoms. FluoLabs will be available for purchase in 2021 for all who suffer from allergy season.
DemakrQ is a disruptive, high-tech Dutch skincare brand created to help zoomers combat acne and prevent scarring with LED light therapy. DemarkQ devices were designed to make this previously exclusive technology more accessible for at-home use. This helmet-like device uniformly delivers LED wavelength to the scalp with a silicone lens that is the core material of IL Science. FOLLINIC is adjustable and allows users to do everything when you wear it (except for showering) including vacuuming, reading, and so much more.
Tech On-the-Go
While every minute matters, brands are coming up with ways to make your time count with on-the-go tech products that are easily accessible and easy to use. Take your favorite and much-needed devices with you wherever you go. These brands are making it easy to stay connected:
Nomadplug is the durable single solution adapter designed to be so compact that users won’t need to unpack it at all! The nomadplug allows users to plug in anywhere and works in 195 countries. All components are magnetic, giving users peace of mind that they won’t be losing any parts and will be able to effectively charge their tech wherever they are.
Developed by Taiwanese consumer electronic brand LUFTQI, the LUFT Duo is unlike traditional purifiers in that it’s portable, doesn’t require expensive filter replacements, and uses UVA LED and photocatalytic tech to zap dust, pollen, mold, and pathogens down to the molecule. This air purifier decreases organic vapor, and helps break down cell walls for viruses and pollen to stop the immune system trigger. Luft Duo is a great gadget for those with allergies or asthma, and is useful for in the car and during sleep.
Smarter Security
In a world that is quickly adapting to a mainly digital way of communicating, smart security has never been more essential. Emerging brands brought security programs and devices that fit effortlessly into consumer homes as well as businesses. It’s important to know all the ways you can protect yourself and your customers. See some of the brands that really made an impact on their category:
X-Sensor is a network system to detect security devices in retail, restaurants, and hotel chains; the company says it can detect shoplifters or violence. The system is designed to scan the face of any individual who breaches security, and it will alert the establishment if that individual returns or will notify other establishments of shoplifters and violence within the app. X-Sensor pairs with user’s phone and displays a dashboard for ready use.
Zolder.App, a mobile-first platform, continuously checks configuration for improvements, detects malicious behavior, provides the latest relevant news through the app, and offers 24/7 help with world-class cybersecurity experts.
Protect your packages from porch pirates with a simple clip. Package Clipper allows your delivery person to clip your packages once delivered, incentivized by an optional tip, and your packages are safely protected until you are ready to retrieve them. Utilizing an app for user phones, Package Clipper notifies users when their packages arrive, gives users the option to tip the driver, and when clip gets removed or even simply moved, an alarm will sound. Users can easily deactivate this alarm, serving as a way to ward off porch pirates and keep your packages safe.
SelfSafe is a password-protected USB emergency identification waterproof bracelet that stores all important information including medical, financial, insurance, travel documents, personal identification, and more. This all-in-one device will help make sure users have everything they need in a secure yet accessible design no matter what life throws at them.
Handy Tools in the Age of COVID-19
While the global pandemic has been devastating on so many fronts, some companies were able to pivot and shift their focus to come out with products and devices to help us live in a safer and cleaner world:

Smart Sanitizer gives businesses incentives to use their product by creating a space for vendors to run 15-second ads on their machines, increasing revenue.
Working Smarter Not Harder

Typewise becomes faster and more intuitive over time, predicting what text is intended with full data privacy.
Dialogue Trainer has developed an online communication “flight simulator” that enables organizations to train professionals on demand in important skills and roles. This allows trainers, users, and managers to gain insight into performance and communication. This platform simulates conversations, engages in role play as a professional, and develops interaction with virtual characters. Dialogue Trainer is perfect for creating consistent communication among a business.
Y-Brush has developed a way to reduce the amount of time you spend brushing your teeth from two minutes to 10 seconds. With this mouth guard-like product, consumers will be able to brush all of their teeth at once with soft bristles on the inside of the mouth guard in five seconds for the top and bottom rows of teeth. When the Y-Brush is in the user’s mouth, all they have to do is bite down and flip it, rinse, and add toothpaste for each brushing period.
Upgrading Your Home (and Business, Too!)
While the world has been staying home for the past year or so, everyone is looking for ways to upgrade their home to make it more comfortable, luxurious, and enjoyable. These companies bring something to the table to make your home a destination:

ColdSnap will be available for full commercial purchase in early 2022.
TOTO’s Washlet is the cleaner, safer, and more refreshed toilet paper alternative, giving consumers the washing stream they need for after-use bathroom usage, a dryer and deodorizer all in one! Washlet keeps consumers feeling clean and hygienic after every bathroom trip, with a spray in the front for women and a spray in the back for men and women. This heated seat bidet helps keep you clean, safe, and paperless in your own home.

The usual year-in-review post. Putting it behind a break because it is long and pretty boring.
Conflicted about giving a verdict, because obviously this year has been shit in so many respects even if I personally really didn’t suffer much beyond minor inconveniences and some anxiety and stress and an unsurprising death in the family. Yet in other respects, ngl, this has still been a better year than I’ve had in a while. It boils down to being in a relatively safe corner of the world and now being paid enough to make ends meet, basically, because I got a new job in a more or less secure field. (I was doing ok-ish last year as well, considering, but it was at the expense of taking on too much extra work, in hindsight I’ve no idea how I even managed teaching 3 classes last autumn semester.) I started it in a half-time capacity, but then switched to full-time in September when we found a replacement for my previous half-time position. I’m making local medium wage now and probably will for the next 4 years, and thus a massive source of stress in my life is just gone for the time being. I’m not buying-cars-or-real-estate rich, but I can afford not to worry, and let me tell you, that is so fucking nice.
No, I haven’t been particularly smart about it. Yes, I did sort out the situation with my retirement savings plans at the end of December, and increased monthly contributions, but throughout the year, I’ve been spending furiously and, disregarding minor charitable donations, pretty selfishly. I’ve done a lot, A LOT of shopping, mostly online. Some of it was warranted to make up for all the lean years - it was not too soon to get new sheets, the old ones were literally becoming threadbare, the rug was looking miserable, the sofa was de facto broken, the hallway was depressing, etc. I don’t regret any expenses on nesting, including furniture and reno (with the possible exception of a pendant light I changed my mind about when it was too late to return it, but I still kind of like it and will find a use for it eventually). There’s an underlying pessimism, leading to a sense of urgency to check these things off the list before the good times run out again. As I’ve said before, I feel it’ll be easier to cope with precarity when I’ve established a baseline of relative comfort.
But there’s also no point in denying that a considerable chunk of the expenses this year built up from just comfort shopping out of anxiety and boredom. It’s not even a good self-soothing tactic, is it. Yet here we are, and the wardrobe has been upgraded and then some, again, but at least nearly all of it was either second-hand or reasonably priced. Too many favourites to list, but finding the perfect jeans (and getting 2 pairs) seems like an achievement worth noting. (I also had 2 pairs of my previous favourites, Uniqlo denim joggers from... 2017?, but my thighs destroyed them both by late last year. The new ones are lasting better in comparison.) Of course there was fairly little chance to wear all of these nice things, with the exception of loungewear. I last wore a dress in August. Hopefully things will eventually improve in this respect.
Bought lots of skincare, too. I am habitually mindful of getting the best value for money, but have definitely splurged on things here and there, and tried new stuff more than I used to. There are vague thoughts on perhaps simplifying the routines. Also, there’s been a shift towards stuff I can easily get in Europe, because there were issues with getting things from Korea or Japan, and I guess the novelty has worn off a bit, I can’t be bothered to sheet mask more than twice a month, max, and things I like keep getting discontinued.
In contrast to all of the above, saved on travel, obviously. Due to all plans getting cancelled from March onwards, only left the country once this year, to Paris around Valentine’s day (it was mostly excellent and done in a budget-conscious manner). It is odd that I don’t really miss travel all that much either. Low-key dreading the next opportunity because it seems like a major source of anxiety after a long break. There were a few local day trips with friends or family over the summer and autumn, which I cherished, as well as the too-few chances to go out somewhere and see people (amid second-wave hindsight, wish I’d done it more during the summer). Even my introverted ass misses socializing by this point, despite also feeling that I’ve become really bad at it. As anyone ought to have realized after reading this far, I’m probably more boring than ever, too.
Regrets also involve not getting out more and not getting enough exercise. Yes, even considering I’ve been going to weekly workouts with a physiotherapist/private trainer since June (using a compensation scheme paid for by work, but that covers about half of it) that has mostly fixed the issues I was having with my shoulders and clearly upped my general fitness level. The problem is, the workouts at home were on the easy and occasional side, and I have only gone on a handful of long walks all year. Part of it is scheduling, part of it is route issues and wanting to avoid public transportation because of the pandemic, and part of it was my tendency to get blisters for no good reason, but I fixed that with another late-in-the-year purchase of cold-weather-appropriate Skechers.
In surprise achievements during this year: for the first time since actively having an ED, I have become mostly ok with weighing myself like a rational adult (no more than once a month though, and I take care to do it at a time where I’m not bloated, so the ‘rational’ part remains arguable). I didn’t really think this would ever happen, but it’s a side effect of the physio sessions. It feels a bigger achievement than the 5 or so kg of actual weight I’ve lost - I felt fat af in the late spring, and ngl, cookies and ice cream featured heavily on the lockdown menu. I also cut all the way back on sugar since May until late November or so, and intend to keep it up once sugar-binge-season is over.
Ceiling-to-floor reno of a complicated hallway space on top of everything else that’s been going on is also a fucking achievement, even if it took too long and the guy is coming to put up 2 more lights next week.
I’ve been reading more just for recreation. Not ‘enough’, whatever that means, and not always or even mostly at reasonable times, but it counts and has made this year more tolerable.
Items still on the to-do-list for next year: getting glasses, ffs. I have had the prescription since June. I want to go with the boyf and make him get new ones too, but zero fucking progress, and the environment isn’t helping, hard to shop for glasses with a mask on. Same goes for driving school, can’t do all of it online, but it needs to get done. Also, kitchen reno, even though at the moment that feels like too much, but I ought to make plans and order the supplies during winter and spring, and then hire the same guy to get it done quickly in the summer.
Resolutions: I guess my last remaining grandparent dying has contributed to feeling I’m sick and tired of kidulting. I want to get a fucking grip, get my finances in order, set adult goals and muster the will to work towards them. And I want to continue working on my fitness level. That’s about it.
