The Odyssey | 0.5 | Bradley Bradshaw x Reader (18+)
Previous Chapter | Next Chapter | Masterlist
You leave Como, your arrival in Verona is going to make the rest of the trip much more complicated.

…
You’re driving him fucking crazy. You’re spending far too much time together. The worst part? — You’re actually listening to him now. No, the worst part about that is that you’ll listen to what he tells you, but you’re still giving him all of that fucking attitude about it.
The two of you have spent so much time together, in fact, that Bradley didn’t get another chance to get Natasha alone. It’s for the best, because she actually smiles and waves him off when he leaves this time. Normally, they’ve argued by now. He never moved on and she’s not coming back — the usual kind of stuff.
Today, she had stretched up onto her tiptoes and draped her arms around his thick shoulders, exhaling calmly against the warm skin of his neck. “We’re looking forward to seeing you again next year, Bradley.”
And then, she had taken a step back and entwined her fingers with her husbands. And Bradley hadn’t said anything. He’d looked the woman that he spent so long loving in the eye, and said absolutely nothing. And now, he’s sitting on a packed minibus to a different location, with nothing but you on his mind.
In a professional sense of course.
It’s professional, because he’s sitting here and watching you read the play that he gave you. It’s from the Gracchan period, a time where social mobility was a big focus, but the play itself is by a very wealthy man — making fun of that. It’s about a girl from a poor family of farmers who falls in love with a very powerful man in their town.
Bradley’s eyes scan the page, then flicker up to your face. Your brows are furrowed in concentration, the small playbook open against one thigh and your dictionary wedged open between yours and Bradley’s. You’re just past the first act.
“I don’t… she…?” You shake your head in confusion, lifting it to look at Bradley. “She wants to belong to him? — Like work for him?”
Bradley’s lips twitch. He gives a small shake of his head, leaning closer and taking the dictionary. He flips around a little, his shoulder pressing into yours. Warm skin, the smell of his cologne, the rumble of the wheels against the uneven road.
Pasquale’s love for the 1970s American rock pours through the car in the form of an Eagles album. Bradley knows which one. You couldn’t have less of a clue.
“She’s saying she wants to give herself to him. Not belong to him.” Bradley explains patiently, turning the book towards you so that you can see the rough translation. It’s an easy mistake to make. That’s why he has you reading the play, so you’ll be able to use the context of the scene to eliminate the mistakes you’re making.
You look up at Bradley briefly. Belong to, give herself to — you’re stuck on how that could possibly not mean the same thing, until it hits you. Give herself to. Her body, she means.
“Oh. Thanks.” You set your headphones back on your ears and turn your attention back to the play. Bradley gives you a curt nod and adjusts his sunglasses. He spreads his thighs just a little. His knee presses gently against yours, not pushing, just sitting there.
You don’t mind it much. But, you’re beginning to notice a pattern. He touches you too much. When you’re studying together, his feet rest on your side of the table, constantly nudging your ankles. He’ll get too close when you’re walking by each other. He’ll sit with his legs spread so far that you’ve got no choice but to let his thigh smush into yours. But, you don’t mind that too much.
What you do mind, is that the man in this book was described briefly in the beginning as having brown curls. And now, now that the protagonist is throwing herself at him, there’s only one person that you’re picturing playing him.
It’s not your fault. He’s arrogant, he mocks her constantly and he’s got brown curls. Sounds like Bradley. Unfortunately, at this moment in time, Bradley’s character is all too willing to make the wrong choice. You swallow softly, brows knitted together as you try to convince yourself that you’ve got the translation wrong.
That his hands aren’t trailing up, under the fabric of his skirt. Your eyes dart from the page to Bradley’s hands resting against his thighs. You study the tanned flesh, the sun-bleached, blonde hair at his wrist. The protruding veins on the back of his hands. The gold class ring on his finger.
Bradley feels you shift in your seat, your thigh knocking into his. He glances down again and quickly back to the road. Those denim cutoffs fit your thighs perfectly. But, he can’t stop himself from taking a peek at your face. Plastered in discomfort.
Maybe he shouldn’t have given you a book with a sex scene in it, but this is mild compared to some of the content in his class. This book is the introduction to virtus versus pudictia. He figures the concept will be something you get your head around pretty quickly. Men doing whatever the fuck they want and women waiting patiently for a husband. Sounds exactly like what you’ve got going on already.
It’s only a three hour drive from Como to Verona, and Bradley’s got prep work for his research here to get done. He sits there and cards through the papers like he’s working, but really he spends most of the journey just observing.
Your reaction to his syllabus irritates him, but intrigues him in a way that he just can’t explain. He wants you to stop being so old-fashioned and wake up to the concept that sex is just a natural part of life — but also, he isn’t used to being around girls like you. He has made a point of surrounding himself with people who are nothing like you.
“Hey, Bradley,” You broach the topic tentatively, and he feels you shift slightly closer to Pasquale. He sighs. You dog-ear the page and close the book of the play. His eyes linger on that, before he finally looks up at you. You shift once more, taking a deep breath before speaking. “So, I spoke to my parents…”
You’re not going home. That wouldn’t make sense. You wouldn’t have just spent three hours giving yourself a headache by trying to read a raunchy Roman play if you were going home. Bradley’s brows draw together. He sets his papers down on his legs.
Pasquale winces as he looks between the two of you — it has been such a smooth drive so far.
“My dad has spoken to the Dean, he wants me to have my own room for the rest of the trip. He’s paying.” You explain calmly, pulling your knees up to your chest and resting your feet against the bench. Dog-earing pages and sitting like a kid, it just doesn’t fit into this image that Bradley has of you in his head.
He scoffs, lips twitching under that stupid moustache. “Of course he is.”
Between the two of you, neither one is really sure what his problem is. Maybe he wants you to be more independent, maybe he just likes the way your face looks when you scowl at him. Either way, he’s an expert at getting under your skin.
“Would you rather pay?” You bite back. Pasquale cringes, leaning away from the two of you. Bradley’s stare is something to behold. He really has perfected it. It’s mean, hardened and it’s superior all at once. And yet, it still doesn’t make him look any less handsome.
“I’d rather that you at least try to get along with the other kids. It would make your life easier.”
“I’m not a kid.”
“You know what I meant.” He knows that. It doesn’t make him feel any better about the way he feels about you. But, he knows that you’re more mature than he gives you credit for. Even if you punched him in the nuts last week.
“It’s really none of your business either way, I was just letting you know.”
It’s quiet between the two of you for a while. Almost long enough for the entirety of Hotel California to play through those dusty speakers.
“Does your dad know that you’re the one who started that fight?” Bradley really can’t help it. He’s a decade your senior, he should really be more mature about things. But, there’s just something about you that makes him want to put an end to your know-it-all attitude.
“I didn’t.” You cross one knee over the other, lifting your chin and straightening your spine.
“Pulled a good handful of her hair out, kid.” He scoffs, turning his attention back to his paperwork. His tone is so dismissive that even Pasquale wouldn’t judge you for hitting him in the balls again.
“I’m not a kid!” You turn sharply towards him, scowling furiously.
“Right. That’s why you’re here, huh? — Because you’re grown up enough to stand up to your dad?” He doesn’t even look up at you. That’s the worst part. Pasquale winces so hard that he has to fight with himself to keep his eyes open and on the road. He waits for the sound of an impact, a hit, a scream — anything.
Instead, you lean in so close that the soft curve of your breast nudges Bradley’s arm. “I’m grown up enough to know that pining over a married woman is pathetic.”
“Pining? — Kid, your own fucking fiancé couldn’t care if you lived or died. Don’t fucking lecture me about love.”
It falls quiet quickly. The voices in the back of the bus fade out, everyone turns their attention towards the two of you, arguing again. You look down slowly. Bradley follows your gaze to his fingers curled around your forearm, tight. He looks back up and this is all to familiar. Sitting with you facing him, blinking at him like you’re about to cry.
“Get out.” He breathes finally, releasing your arm and sitting back against the door. Your face twists, confused. Pasquale shoots a look at Bradley — they can’t just leave a kid on the side of the road, surely. “Sit in the back. Finish that fucking play, we’ve got more to cover.”
Pasquale pulls over to the side of the winding, countryside road and steps out of the van, pulling his door open. You’re silent as you get out and step into the back, finding all of the seats taken. Abigail pushes Luke’s backpack off of a seat and gestures for you to sit with a pitiful smile. You take the spot and secure your headphones over your ears again, reaching to the Walkman at your side and skipping the song.
You don’t say another word for the rest of the drive. Bradley doesn’t even look at you. He gives you your key first just so you’ll go. This place does have an elevator, it’s just dusty and creaky and awful. You’re on a different floor to everyone else too. That doesn’t help.
You sit down, settling against the foot of the bed with your suitcase abandoned in the corner. He doesn’t know anything about your relationship. He just has so many cruel things that he could say to you — she’s all that you’ve got on him, and clearly she is a sore subject. The thought bubbles in your chest to the point that it makes your face warm. It makes you entire body hot.
That stupid look on his face. Like he knows anything about you, or Malcolm, or the way that you love each other.
You wish you had longer to sit and stew. Instead, you’re interrupted by his stupid, big fist slamming against the other side of the door to your hotel room. You know it’s him because he’s the only one rude enough to do it. Unsurprisingly, when you tear the door open, he’s the one in the hall. Without saying anything, he brushes past you and walks inside, then lifts up the textbook in his hand.
“Let’s get this shit over with so that we don’t have to see each other later.”
You wouldn’t be foolish enough to think he was here to apologise, but still, his attitude makes you want to hit him with that textbook. But, he’s got a point, and you would rather not see him this evening either. So, you sit down on the bed and fold your arms over your chest.
He takes a look at you and frowns, then does a survey of the room. Wardrobe, your own bathroom, two nightstands, suitcase rack, floor lamp. No desk. Begrudgingly, he takes a seat beside you on the bed.
“Alright, the play that I gave you,” He exhales like that will make him let go of all of the anger he’s holding on to. It doesn’t. “It focuses heavily on the sexual roles of men and women in developing Rome. Did you pick up on that?”
You watch him open the textbook and flip through, searching for something in particular. It really would be quite easy to tear the book from his hands and get him with it. It’s a hefty book. Instead, you shrug your shoulders and leave him with a simple, “I guess.”
He looks up at you, bored. “You guess? — The male main character had a wife, a girlfriend and a mistress. The female main character devoted herself solely to this one man, that she knew was never going to be hers. What do you think that suggests about gender roles back then?”
“I don’t know.”
“You do know, stop acting like you’re stupid.” He bites back. There’s a second where you stare at him and both of you take a moment to decide whether this is going to become another argument. You sigh softly.
“It’s patriarchal.”
“Right,” Bradley nods, “So there were these concepts back then called—“
The lesson goes on, and the more you engage, the less hostile he becomes. As much as you struggle when it comes to reading text excerpts and answering the questions he gives you on those, it gets to the point where you’ll crack a joke and he’ll laugh. That’s got to be diplomacy of some kind.
Both of you grow unintentionally closer, shifting periodically, leaning closer to see the text, or look at a picture. So, when you’re stumped by a question and you turn sharply away from him and throw yourself down, smushing your face into the pillow and growling in frustration, he finally realizes just how close the two of you have gotten.
You, laying on your front on this double bed, groaning into the pillow. Him, close enough that if he moved his leg, it would graze your hip. Bradley stares at you for a moment, then — while you’re not looking — lets his eyes trail. Along the feminine length of your legs, up over the curve of your waist in those cut-offs.
He lifts a hand and strokes it tenderly over the top of your hair, careful not to catch of tug at your lengths. He repeats the motion a few times. You feel him shift closer.
“It’s alright,” Bradley says quietly, stroking your hair back with a surprisingly gentle hand. “It’s a hard class. That was good. You’re doing well, I’m impressed.”
“Please,” You scoff without lifting your face from the pillow. You shift just a little and hook your arms under it, hugging it closer to your body. His eyes dart down to the way your back curves into your eyes, then slam shut. He should make an excuse to leave. “The only thing that could impress you would have happened a hundred years ago.”
“You know that this course focuses mainly on things that happened from —“ Bradley stops correcting you as you turn your head and glare at him. His eyes are trained on your face. He’s not looking at the way those denim cut-offs hug your figure, but fuck, he’s thinking about it. “Nevermind.”
He stares forwards. His hand is still resting in your hair. He should move it. He should leave. He hasn’t ever felt like this — countless students throwing themselves at him and he’s ignored every single one. He’s being ridiculous. It’s just the forbidden fruit effect. The proximity.
He should move his hand. He just can’t take his eyes off of your face. The swell of your lips. The slight scrunch of your nose. The narrowed look in your eyes. Bradley lifts his hand.
Then, he takes the length of your hair resting against your cheek and brushes it softly back, revealing the rest of your face to him. He shifts his hips, sitting just a fraction closer, making you easier to reach as you lay at his side.
“I mean it,” He says quietly. Your lips quirk softly, almost a smile. You’re about to tell him that he’s probably never spoken to you so kindly ever. Then, he speaks again. “You’re trying. I see that you’re trying. You’re doing a really good job.”
His thumb swipes softly over your temple, guiding your hair back further out of your face. The smile fades from your face. Then, you’re just blinking up at him. Your face is calm. His doesn’t reveal anything.
Slowly, his thumb swipes along the same trial. Over the skin covering your temple, just slightly into your hairline. It doesn’t even cross your mind to move. Maybe because you’re too thrown off by this sudden tenderness, maybe because you don’t actually hate this feeling.
The third time, he doesn’t follow the same route. His thumb swipes tenderly along the skin of your cheek, gently trailing in a small circle along the apple of your cheek. Further down. You stare up at him. Your heartbeat betrays you, thudding away in your chest as his thumb leaves your cheek and meets the corner of your mouth.
His eyes dart from his thumb to your eyes, studying your expression briefly, before he looks down again. You’re silent as he swipes his thumb delicately over the plump skin of your bottom lip.
“What did you mean earlier? — About Malcolm?” Your sudden question surprises the both of you, putting an abrupt end to the out of body feeling that was fogging Bradley’s mind. He blinks, adam’s apple bobbing in his throat as he pulls his hand away from your face.
“What?”
“You said he wouldn’t care if I lived or died. Why?” You push yourself up from your front, settling onto your knees instead. Bradley’s brows knit together. The only thing he can think to say is your name. He stumbles it out, baffled. “You don’t even know him. Why would you say something like that?”
He could turn this into another screaming match. Avoid answering until you’re yelling so hard that you’re blue in the face. But, he won’t. He deserves answers too — he’s tired of that night clouding his head, having no idea if you remember or not.
“Because he left you on the side of the road to freeze to death last December,” Bradley’s suddenly acutely aware of the fact that he’s sitting on your bed, alone in your room. Your face twists in confusion. He’s not done yet. “And the only reason you didn’t freeze to death was because I hauled your ass into my truck and drove you to your parents’ house.”
He’s expecting to have to elaborate further, but you know exactly which night he was talking about. You remember the three days after blacking out that Malcolm wouldn’t so much as answer the phone to you.
“No you didn’t.”
Bradley raises his eyebrows at you. He wishes there was something he could show you, some way he could prove to you how fucked up you had been when he had found you on that curb.
“You were wearing a blue dress with sparkly shit on it,” Bradley says, his voice too calm. You were. You woke up still in it the next morning. “Open-toed heels.”
What the fuck were you thinking? — In the middle of December?
“Your parents live at the end of a long street with a bunch of Oak trees on it,” They do. Last house on the left. You stare at him, unblinking. “Your room is on the second floor, at the back of the house. Your window overlooks the swimming pool. I called your fiancé from that stupid fucking pink phone on your nightstand eight times before he picked up.”
Your chest shudders with the next slow breath that you draw in. He sits there, watching you try to rationalize what he’s telling you. There’s too much information for it to be a lie. The look on his face tells you that he isn’t lying.
“You… spoke to Malcolm that night? — What did he say?”
Bradley makes a face, then turns his chin towards the ceiling and sighs. He looks down and rubs his rough palm over his jaw, shaking his head at you. “It doesn’t matter. What matters is that he left you in the fucking snow, unconscious.”
The air conditioning unit rattles behind you, making you all the more aware of the sweat starting to bead on the nape of your neck. You swallow softly and look down at the textbook between the two of you.
“We were fighting that night, but he — I think I — I think I ran off…” Your memories of that night are fuzzy. Truthfully, you can’t even remember what the two of you had been arguing about, much less what happened for him to be so angry even days later. “Whatever happened wasn’t his fault—“
“No?” Bradley interrupts, a level louder than he had been previously. You pull back from him subconsciously, bracing yourself on the bed behind you, trying to find purchase in the sheets. “It wasn’t his fault? — Anything could have happened to you, you know that? — What kind of man lets someone that they love put themselves at risk like that?”
“He probably didn’t realize. I’m sure he thought that I got a cab. Wait, Bradley, what did you say to him?”
Wait, Bradley, what did you say to him? — He’s looking at you, but he’s had this conversation before with Natasha. All those years ago. Seconds before he had answered her and watched any love she had had for him ebb away.
“We had a conversation.” Bradley answers you dryly. Your brows knit together, leaning just slightly closer. “I asked him where he was. If he knew where you were. He asked me if you were still sulking on the curb outside of the quad. He knew exactly where you were.”
Finally, he renders you speechless. For the first time, maybe ever, you’re left without something to say to him. There’s a brief silence between the two of you before he speaks again.
“What were the two of you arguing about that night?” Bradley presses.
“I — I can’t remember. Something stu—“
“Why did you kiss me?”
Your eyes go round, widening incredulously at the man sitting on the other side of your bed. The man that you’ve spent the last week and a half screaming at. The smug, over-confident man ten years older than you who refuses to dress his age or pay grade. The man who threatened your fiancé back in December.
“What?” You shriek, pushing up onto your knees and scrunching your face up at him.
“You sat in my car and begged me not to take you into your parents’ house. You kissed me. I dragged you out of the truck and put you to bed.” Bradley says it so calmly — you wonder how often he has thought about this moment to be able to recount it so easily.
You look him over. There’s no more distance between the two of you than there would be between a driver’s seat and a passenger seat. Obviously you were out of your mind that night, running away from Malcolm and not kicking and screaming when this oaf had put you in his car. But there’s not a chance in hell that you would have kissed him. You can’t stand him.
Still, here with just the two of you, you’re not sure how it would benefit him to be lying about this.
So, you take a deep breath and try to ignore the heartbeat thudding in your ears. You stare at him. His hair is neat enough. Short at the back and sides, curly on top. It would have been shorter when he was in the Navy, but you remember it being longer at the beginning of the year. You hadn’t shown up to many of his classes, so you can only guess at what he wore during the winter. Vaguely, you’ve got a memory of him in grey slacks and a navy sweater. Still not wearing a tie.
If he had come straight from his office, he would be in his work clothes. You would be sitting in the passenger side of his truck. It was snowing out, so you know he would have been cold. The sun-kissed pink hue on his cheeks was probably still there, just frost-chilled in variety this time. His facial hair is always neat. Everything tidily shaved, his moustache always trimmed. He’s certainly not ugly.
Long lashes. A slight bump in his nose, like he might have broken it once, but it suits him. Slightly raised scar tissue on his cheek, his throat. Lashes that touch the bone of his eye socket when he closes his eyes. Freckles dotting his cheeks, the bridge of his nose. Eyes that can’t quite decide whether they’re brown, black, amber or hazel. Pink, plush lips.
Ah. That’s where your attention catches. You practically take a mental snapshot of the place where your eyes land. The hollows of his cheeks, the scars on his left side. His strong jaw, usually clenched when he’s looking at you. The thick length of his neck, his protruding adam’s apple, the gold chain usually visible just inside of his collar. Those thick, reddish pink lips.
Pushing up on your knees, you lift your gaze and find him already staring. He knows exactly what you’re about to do. His hand finds your hip and grabs at it roughly as you put one knee in front of the other and crawl to him. He guides you where he wants you and lifts his other hand, cupping your jaw.
His rough palm sits against your jaw bone. Tenderly touching your cheek, just slightly grazing your throat. Eclipsing the side of your face with the magnitude of his hand size. Even up close, you’ve still got no clue of why you would kiss him. Well, nothing that you can rationalize. No explanation that would make any kind of sense to you on any regular day.
But, if you’re being honest with yourself, it’s because you know that there is no rationalizing this. The want that you feel for him just doesn’t make sense. His fingers curled around your hipbone, pressing roughly into the denim there — it doesn’t make sense.
And yet, when the strong hand on the side of your jaw pulls you forwards, you’re all too willing to lean all the way into him and kiss him. Softly, slowly. Your bottom lip between his, controlled even though all he wants to do is throw you down on his bed and kiss you like he means it.
Bradley figures that’s a bad thing, that he’s in control of the situation enough to be gentle with you, but not to stop himself from making this mistake. His tongue swipes softly against your lip at the same time his hand tugs at your hip. You wobble forwards, he parts his thighs and tugs again making you land unceremoniously against his legs.
You can feel the abandoned textbook digging into your ankle. Its glossed pages, open and forgotten.
His hand trails from your jaw, around to the back of your neck. He feels you tense against him as he pulls you close by your neck and your waist, lifting, and then planting you on your back. The second that your spine touches the sheets, you tear your mouth away from his with a gasp.
He stills, kneeling between your parted thighs, staring down at you. You glance down. He watches your brows knit together and follows your gaze down to the necklace that has slipped from his shirt. You lift your stiff hand from your side and reach out for it. He swallows as the delicate tips of your fingers graze the gold cross. You wonder where his dog tags are. Why he’s wearing this today. If he just wore the tags for Natasha’s benefit, maybe.
“I didn’t know you’re religious.” You breathe out. He’s just close enough to be able to hear you. His hands flex around the pits of your knees, skimming down your calves.
“I’m not,” He answers you quietly. “It belonged to my dad.”
You breathe out hard, but it doesn’t make that weird feeling in your chest go away. You just keep on staring at that dangling necklace. Something keeps you from looking him in the eye. Fear, shame — lust — you’re not sure exactly what it is.
Turning your head, you’re met with the sight of his flexing forearm, planted beside your head. Bradley watches through darkened eyes as you reach out once again, starting at the back of his hand. You trail the vein in his skin from his fist, up along the inside of his forearm, onto his bicep. Stopping at the hem of his white t-shirt sleeve.
Bradley leans down, moving to the side to catch your mouth. This second kiss is different from the first. It’s all him. His tongue swipes your bottom lip and you’ve got the sense to press into him, to open your mouth. Both of you are surely aware of how dead still you’re laying, the way your hands are balled in the sheets at your sides.
But, you lift your chin and chase his kiss like he’s got your next breath. He pushes harder against you, his tongue pressing forwards and grazing yours. Suddenly, your hands aren’t so still any more. They’re up and shoving at his chest.
“What are you doing?” You gasp, horrified.
He sits back on his knees and stares at you. You’re right. What the fuck is he doing? — You’re one of his students, and fuck, your father would never let this go. Your fiancé too. Fuck, your fiancé.
“Keep your tongue in your mouth, what is the matter with you?” You snap at him, sitting up swiftly and hitting his chest with another hard shove. Bradley stares at you. Never in a million years was he expecting your issue here to be with the fact that he’d barely grazed your tongue with his.
“Excuse me?”
“Your tongue, you animal! — What do you think you’re doing?” You pull your legs out from between his thighs and shift away from him, leaping off of the bed. His jaw falls slack, staring at the way you’re glaring at him from the bottom of the bed.
“Kissing! — What? — Are you telling me that you’ve never—“ He shakes his head, trying to make sense of what he’s hearing. He knew you were inexperienced but french kissing has been popular in the US for a lot longer than you’ve even been alive.
“No, I haven’t! — What kind of girl—“
“Alright, stop yelling, stop yelling!” Bradley stands up swiftly and catches hold of both of your biceps. Quieting, you crane your neck back to look at him. He looks down at you and exhales. “That was a mistake. Right?”
His thumbs brush gently along the backs of your arms. You’re silent, just staring up at him, but he gives a quick nod anyway. That’s good enough. Squeezing your arm, he lets you go and then moves.
“Fuck. Okay,” He runs a hand over his jaw and turns, dizzily trying to collect his things. “We’re good. We just need to not get in each other’s way, get you a C — and then we’re out of each other’s hair.”
There are so many things you want to say. Even more that you want to ask him. But, you don’t. You just nod silently at him and tuck your hands behind your back. Then, you make the mistake of glancing downwards. The khaki colouring of his shorts has never looked as indecent as it does now.
Bradley doesn’t need to follow your gaze to know what you’re staring at. He knows all too well that he has been rock hard since he first grabbed at your hip. The little squeak you had made had sent every red blood cell in his body rushing south, and the way you’re staring at his straining dick now doesn’t help.
You make it worse too. There’s no shock on your face, you’re not saying anything. You’re just staring at the way his thick length is pressing against the fabric of the shorts, hard, and because of you. Natasha, that you had understood. She had been touching him and she was undeniably gorgeous. And they had history.
“Stop —“ Bradley pinches the bridge of his nose with one hand and dips a hand into his shorts to adjust himself with the other. That still doesn’t stop you from staring. He frowns at you. First you don’t know how to kiss, and now he’s realizing that you’ve probably never seen a dick either. “For fucks’ sake.
Your eyes finally go wide as he grabs the textbook, turns on his heel and leaves the room with a slam of the door. You flinch at the sound, suddenly completely alone in your room, reeling. Ashamedly, your first instinct is to call Matthew.
Bradley walks down the hall, takes the stairs, and into his own room. It’s empty, meaning that Luke’s probably in Robin’s room. Bradley should be an adult and go and lecture them both. Instead, he slams the door to their bathroom and twists the lock. Cold water probably would have been the best thing to do. Instead, letting the warm stream soak his body, his clothes ditched on the floor, he feels like he can finally breathe.
Truthfully, your fiancé is the furthest thing from his mind. The fact that you’re his student has never felt as minuscule as it did when he was kneeling between your thighs and watching your delicate fingers toy with his necklace. You’re graduating. This is just extra credit. If you had passed the first time, you’d be out of his class already.
All the excuses in the world doesn’t make it okay that he has kissed you twice now. But, that doesn’t stop him from trailing his palm along his toned stomach, wrapping a hand loosely around the base of his cock and planting his free palm on the tile in front of him.
Upstairs and three doors to the right, you’re sitting criss-crossed on the same bed that you had just kissed your professor in with an old plastic phone pressed to your ear. The line rings, and rings until it feels like you’re about to burst into tears until finally his voice comes through on the other end.
“Hello?”
“I need to ask you something and I need you to please answer me honestly. Okay?”

Bluey’s School (Glasshouse School) (1/?)
Bluey’s school is quite interesting; aspects of it will be covered in a few posts because there’s a lot to talk about.
We’ll start with a topic we’ve previously mentioned in this Tumblr: location.
Unlike conventional elementary schools for young children, the specialized school Bluey attends (more on this in a future post) is not close by to Bluey’s home. It doesn’t seem to be near any of Bluey’s classmates homes either: it is located in a rural area, and doesn’t appear to have transit service. (Australia doesn’t have dedicated yellow school buses like in North America, but transit agencies do set up children-only dedicated routes when it is practical.)
The small size and rural location of the school Bluey and her friends attend means everyone has to be driven to it.
The whole “it’s in a rural location” was in fact noteworthy enough that the episode “Explorers” focussed on it being comically hard to get to for parents unfamiliar with the location.
A school like this where everyone must be shuttled in from all across Brisbane must create a challenge for parents; it must impact the parents’ other travel during the day / be factored into their schedules.
It looks like there are a few occasional carpoolers (like Rusty and Jack, noted in “Cricket”) but it’s not a location that can easily implement a shuttle bus or logically be considered for service by public transit. Funding a dedicated service (even with a minibus) would add significantly to any costs associated with an education at this school.
Not that the rural location is totally a downside; there is plenty of undeveloped space for playing and exploring. Indeed, the lack of playground equipment is deliberate; we’ll get into that in a future post.
One last comment for this post, based on my own experience: a school with students spread throughout a city means that most of the time if Bluey wants to visit a friend, a transit or car trip is almost inevitable; she can’t just walk or ride a bike. This must be a considered a downside compared to if everyone was in close proximity to one another.

Tell me about the difference between the roots and also will be there status menu like skills and attributes
By roots, if you mean paths (I'm assuming! Please correct me if you meant something else.), here's a little outline that's more in depth.
The City Scavenger path is mostly about traveling to the more metropolitan parts of San Francisco and uncovering information about the pathogen that's taken over the world. MC can find lots of useful items for later on, but the city is roaming with zombies, so they must be exceedingly more careful. This path can be accompanied by either How, who's already very well acquainted with the city, or Alia, but she needs to be convinced to leave her cozy cabin.
The Video Tapes path is all about finding out about the previous owner of your Kombi/minibus. This is more like a side-quest of sorts, but it adds a lot of important background to the story and why it was abandoned in the first place. So far I've planned about three out of eight possible videos.
The Local Settlement path is about learning more on the closest PAA Settlement, located deeper in the woods. The PAA Settlement is fairly well-known, due to their outstanding allocation of resources, and their generosity, but the leaders are very, very selective on who they allow into their numbers, and how they got these resources is relatively unknown. Dylan lives within this settlement, and you can find out more about the PAA and your conspiracy theories with her. Alternatively, Gloor may know some things.
Sorry if this sounds quite vague! I do want to share more but I also don't want to spoil anything.
Each path is playable by MC, but your choices will affect the ending you can get.
Also, in terms of attributes, MC has hunger, love, friendship, animosity, and morale variables, all of which affect their standing within the story. In terms of skills, so far I have hunting, but I plan to include sneaking around/theft, and conviction. I'm working on a status menu and debating on letting players pick some stats at the beginning as well.
Hope this sounds clear! I am slowly but surely implementing most of this into the story :)

Alcohol smuggler Guled Diriye is exhausted.
He has just returned from his trip transporting contraband from the Ethiopian border.
The 29-year-old slumps in his chair inside a colonial-style villa battered by years of fighting in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu - a city once known as the Pearl of the Indian Ocean.
His sandals are covered in a potent orange dust – the residue from the desert.
Mr Diriye’s dark eyes droop. The bags underneath speak of sleepless nights, the hours of tension traversing the dangerous roads and negotiating checkpoints with armed men.
There is also the haunting memory of a fellow smuggler who was shot dead.
“In this country, everyone is struggling and looking for a way out. And I found my way by making regular trips by road from the Ethiopian border to Mogadishu,” he says, explaining that smuggling was a means to support his family in a tough economic climate.
The use and distribution of alcohol is illegal. Somalia’s laws must comply with Sharia (Islamic law), which forbids alcohol, but it has not stopped a growing demand, particularly among young people in many parts of the country.
Mr Diriye’s neighbour Abshir, knowing he had fallen on hard times as a minibus-taxi driver, introduced him to the precarious world of alcohol smuggling.
Rickshaws began to take over the city, pushing minibus drivers out of business.
Both were childhood friends who had sheltered together in the same camp in 2009 during the height of the insurgency in Mogadishu - he was someone he could trust.
“I began picking up boxes of alcohol at designated drop points in Mogadishu on [his] behalf and manoeuvring through the city and offloading them at designated locations. I didn’t realise it at first but this was my introduction into smuggling.”
His involvement snowballed and Mr Diriye soon found himself navigating from the porous frontier with Ethiopia through Somalia’s rural hinterlands.
He understands that he is breaking the law, but says the poverty that he finds himself in overrides that.
The smuggling journey begins in Somali border towns such as Abudwak, Balanbale, Feerfeer and Galdogob.
“Alcohol mostly originates in [Ethiopia’s capital] Addis Ababa and makes it to the city of Jigjiga, in the Ogaden region,” Mr Diriye says.
The Ogaden or, as it is officially known in Ethiopia, the Somali region, shares a 1,600km (990-mile) border with Somalia. People on both sides share ethnic, cultural, linguistic and religious ties.
Once the alcohol is loaded, it is moved across the plains of the Somali region, and then smuggled across the border into Somalia.
The border town of Galdogob is a major hub for trade and travel and has been hit hard by the flow of alcohol being smuggled from Ethiopia.
Tribal elders have raised concerns over alcohol-related violence.
“Alcohol causes so many evils [such as shootings],” says Sheikh Abdalla Mohamed Ali, the chairman of the local tribal council in the town.
“[It] has been seized and destroyed on multiple occasions but it's like living next to a factory. It keeps putting out more and more, no matter what we do.”
“Our town will always be in the midst of danger.”
But for the smugglers the goal is to get the alcohol to the capital.
“I drive a truck that transports vegetables, potatoes and other food products. When the truck is loaded up it’s filled with whatever I'm transporting, but I make the most money from the alcohol on board,” Mr Diriye says.
Sometimes smugglers cross into Ethiopia to pick it up and at other times they receive it at the border. But whichever approach is taken, concealment is a crucial part of the profession as the risks from being caught are immense.
“The loader’s job is the most important. Even more important than driving. He’s tasked with concealing the alcohol in our truck, with whatever we have on board. Without him, I wouldn’t be able to move around so easily — at least not without getting caught.
“The average box of alcohol I move has 12 bottles. I usually transport anywhere from 50 to 70 boxes per trip. Usually half the load on my truck is filled with alcohol.”
Large swathes of south-central Somalia are run by armed groups, where the government has little to no control: militias, bandits and the al-Qaeda affiliate al-Shabab roam with impunity.
“You can never travel on your own. It's too risky. Death is always on our minds,” Mr Diriye says. But that concern does not get in the way of business and there is a brutal pragmatism to thinking about the make-up of the team.
“If I get wounded in an attack on the road, there has to be a back-up who can continue the journey. Everyone knows how to drive and knows the roads well.”
Smugglers drive on dirt tracks and roads that have not been renovated in decades. Landmines and unexploded ordnances left behind from previous conflicts are also an issue.
“I travel through at least eight to 10 towns to reach Mogadishu. But we don’t count the towns, we count the checkpoints and who mans them,” Mr Diriye says.
They encounter various clan militias with different allegiances, either lingering in the distance or at roadblocks.
“In case we get jammed up by a clan militia, if one of us is from the same clan as that militia or even a similar sub-clan, it increases our chances of survival. This is why all three of us are from different clans.”
He painfully recalls: “I’ve encountered numerous attacks.
“One of the guys that works with me is relatively new. He replaced my last helper who was killed two years ago.”
Mr Diriye had been driving in suffocating heat for six hours, so decided to nap, passing the wheel to his helper.
“While I was sleeping in the back, I heard a large burst of gunfire that suddenly woke me up. We where surrounded by militiamen. My loader was screaming as he ducked in the passenger seat.” The substitute driver was killed.
Once the commotion ceased, the loader and Mr Diriye picked up their dead colleague from the front seat and put him in the back of the truck.
“I’ve never seen so much blood in my life. I had to wipe [it] away from the steering wheel and keep on driving. In all my years, nothing prepared me for what I saw that day.”
As the pair drove off and got a good distance away from the militiamen, they pulled over to the side of the road and laid his body there.
“We didn’t even have a sheet to cover his body, so I took off my long-sleeved buttoned-up shirt and made do with it.
“It was a difficult decision but I knew I couldn't keep driving around smuggling alcohol with a dead body in the truck. We had a few government checkpoints up ahead and I couldn’t jeopardise my load or my freedom.”
Two years later he says the guilt of leaving the body by the road still haunts him.
He left behind a family, and Mr Diriye is unsure they even know the truth surrounding the circumstances of his disappearance and death.
The danger that Mr Diriye faces is a recurring reality that many smugglers endure while illicitly ferrying alcohol from Ethiopia to Mogadishu, in order to quench the growing demand.
Dahir Barre, 41 has a slim build with noticeable scars on his face that appear to tell a story on their own. He has a dark sense of humour and seems hardened by the near-decade of smuggling that enables him to bypass the possible consequences of what he does.
“We face a lot of problems and dangers but still continue to drive despite the risk due to the poor living conditions in Somalia,” he says.
Mr Barre has been smuggling alcohol from Ethiopia since 2015 and says lack of opportunity made worse by years of poverty pushed him into the dangerous trade.
“I used to do security for a hotel in the city centre. I was armed with an AK-47 and was tasked with patting people down at the entrance.”
Long nights in a dangerous job with meagre pay did not feel worth it.
“One hundred dollars a month to stand in the way of potential car bombs that might plough through the front entrance sounds crazy now that I think of it.”
One of the day-shift guards then put him in touch with friends from the border region and “I’ve been travelling these roads ever since”.
“Back in 2015 I was only getting $150 per trip, compared to $350 per trip now and those days it was far riskier because al-Shabab had control over more territory, so you risked more encounters with them.
“Even the bandits and militias were more dangerous back then.
“If you had red or brown stained teeth, the militias would assume you chewed khat and smoked cigarettes, meaning you had money so they would abduct you and hold you for ransom.
“As drivers we’ve been through a lot and the danger still exists,” Mr Barre says.
If they are caught by al-Shabab fighters then it can be most dangerous since the armed group has a zero-tolerance policy on contraband, especially alcohol. The Islamist insurgents set the vehicle on fire and then detain the smugglers before fining them.
Other armed men can be more easily bribed with money or liquor.
It takes an average of seven to nine days to reach Mogadishu from the Ethiopian border. The smugglers then make their way to a pre-arranged drop-off point.
“When we arrive, a group of men will show up and unload the regular food products into a separate truck, then leave. Afterwards, once that’s done, another individual will arrive, sometimes accompanied by more than one vehicle and they’ll take the boxes of alcohol,” Mr Diriye says.
“But it doesn’t end there. Once it leaves my possession, it’ll pass through more hands, eventually ending up with local dealers in the city, who can be reached with a simple phone call.”
Mr Diriye often thinks about his entry into smuggling, and where his future may lie.
“My neighbour Abshir who initially got me into smuggling alcohol, stopped doing it himself three years ago.”
Abshir offered his nephew, an unemployed graduate at the time, a job in smuggling. But he was killed on his third trip in an ambush by bandits.
“Afterwards Abshir quit smuggling. He became religious and turned to God. I rarely see him any more.”
Despite the dangers, Mr Diriye says it will not deter him.
"Death is something that is predestined. I can't let fear come in the way of making a living. Sure, sometimes I want to throw the keys on the table and start afresh but it's not that easy. Temptation is everywhere and so is poverty."

You're in my head
I had plans for the weekend
But wound up with you instead
Back here again
Got me deep in my feelings
When i should be in your bed
You and i go back to like '09 it's like forever
And you were there my lonely nights, yeah, keeping me together
So wouldn't it make sense if I was yours and you could call me your baby
But we say we're just, say we're just
Friends
Just for now
Yeah but friends don't say words that
Make friends feel like more than just
Friends
Just for now
Now I'm over pretending
So let's put the "end" in friends
Friends
Just for now
Yeah but friends don't say words that
Make friends feel like more than just
Friends are not supposed to get too close
And feel emotions that we're feeling now, now, now
We ain't slowing down, down, down
But once we cross the line, there's no denying you and I can never turn around, round, round
Know we'll never be the same
You and I go back to like '09 it's like forever
And you were there my lonely nights, yeah, keeping me together
So wouldn't it make sense if I was yours and you could call me your baby
But we say we're just, say we're just
Friends
Just for now
Yeah but friends don't say words that
Make friends feel like more than just
Friends
Just for now

Day 4 - Bow Lake & the Glacier
I opted to make a few changes prior to sleeping and they paid off, turns out being warm, a DIY pillow (as the travel pillow isn’t quite up to snuff) and not being able to hear every sounds in the night really helps. As did no alarms going off at 4.30am! It was an early start as some of our party were heading off to walk along the Athabasca glacier, which meant we were up at 05:40 for breakfast at 06:15. I can hear the Dads scoffing at that being ‘early’ as that’s every day for them! Speaking of breakfast, it was a fantastic array of yoghurt, granola, berries, porridge, toast and a real highlight for G (but I’m guessing not quite of the day) cinnamon buns! With our bellies full of breakfasty goodness it was time to jump in old trusty (our 15 seater minibus complete with cheesy music and singing optional).
Our first stop along the way was Bow Lake, which G claimed at that moment in time, that it may have been her favourite so far as it was very calm and peaceful and no one else was there. It was a swift visit, but we would be returning later. G opted for a jump photo which provided a fantastic result, always zip your fanny pack pre-jump! We moved on to the Columbia Ice Field Centre, where some of us would be chilling for a bit, whilst Megan dropped off the others to hike up the glacier. We had a lovely time sitting on a roof terrace in the sun taking in the views on some wonderfully comfy chairs before heading off for a short walk down to a hidden gem of a waterfall that only those with local knowledge would know about. As we made our way down to the waterfall Megan pointed out that some of the trees along the path had a grey substance, but it wasn’t ash. As we got closer to the waterfall we could start to feel the mist, especially when the wind blew in our direction. We learnt that the substance on the trees is sediments and minerals from the pressure of the waterfall hitting the bottom and spraying across the forest. After taking in the view and a few snaps, we moseyed back up to our van and returned to the ice centre for a spot of lunch and more relaxation. This was the first time I cracked out one of my impromptu Amazon purchases, a pair of binoculars! I scanned the glacier and could just about make out our group, amongst the others doing the same thing. The temperature dropped as the sun was covered by clouds so we were glad to be on our way to warmer climates aka down, once the glacier group had returned.
We had a few stops on our way back to camp, the first being Mistaya Canyon, which had a waterfall crashing down on to the rocks and extremely fierce rapids. Even if Aquaman fell in, he wouldn’t be coming out! It’s fair to say by the time we got back in the minibus the group were starting to flag after such an early start, especially those that had been on a 3 hour glacier hike! So it was a snoozy ride on to the next location, Peytos lake (not potato lake!) A short hike took us up to a clearing and another expansive view of woodland, lake and mountains. The final destination of our day’s outing was back to Bow Lake, but this time some of us (Megan, Iain, Daisy, Eliza, G and I) stuck on our swimmers as we’re a glutton for punishment. Apparently the chilly water is actually good for the body and to be fair it does give you a buzz coming back out, if your idea of buzz is burning cold skin! A couple of minutes in the water was long enough to head back out, dry off and return back to camp via the gas station.
As our tents were already set up from the night before, the turn around from getting back to the communal area was pretty swift. G and Hannah stepped up to help with food prep for dinner which was Chicken pasta alfredo with a maple and siracha sauce, which as combos go was very good. With a drink in hand and dinner on the go, the spirit in camp was once again lifted as we finally got to that stage. You on Instagram? Go on then give us an add! The conversation took a funny turn at this point as the topic of ‘type’ came up. Apparently a tall hockey player with front tooth missing is considered ‘hot’ these days, at least from one member of our camp! The food was delicious and exactly what was needed after a long day out and about, especially when topped off with some key lime pie! As we finished our meal, Megan recounted a tale of her worst camp member, a lady from Florida who shouted at her whilst driving, moaned at every opportunity and had lots of unreasonable demands. Thankfully we’re an angelic group with no one even close to that! G and I capped the day off with a ‘hot’ shower before rejoining the group to hear about the following day’s activities. Alas the Grizzly Bear sanctuary is closed, so instead we’ve opted for White Water Rafting down the Kicking Horse river, Yee-haw!
Georgie’s highlight of the day: Bowlake first thing in the morning, closely followed by cinnamon buns!

02x05 - Hostage
TW: Mental health discussions in... well frankly not the best terms. Written and filmed in the 80's.
"Bloody Woodentop, don't know why I'm doing this anyway." Mike complains, helping Yorkie locate an address after all the signs had been stolen. They're trying to arrest a poacher for avoiding his day in court.
Ted and Bob have arranged a fishing trip to Margate and are meeting at the station to get on the minibus with the other officers attending. They're already in high spirits with Ted doing a Jake The Peg impression, claiming it's to stop him from getting legless.
Bob offers to find Viv some room on the back seat but is concerned she might lose her virtue. "Promises promises, that's all I get round this nick!" She laughs. Typically the bait is running late so they can't yet leave.
Reg is delaying helping packing the bus up by fussing over paperwork with June. Tom is amused that Dashers was 'charmed' by Bob into helping because most of uniform are on the beano to Margate. Whilst he's waiting for the bait to arrive, Bob is amused to read another letter from an 'admirer'. ''I want you to lose your temper, yell and swear and keep up a steady rhythm. PS is it true what they say about policemen with big noses?" "It's about time I got one of those!" Tom laughs, chasing Bob around the front office to try and read the rest.
On the estate Russell Archer is refusing to open the door properly to Yorkie and Mike, claiming he didn't attend because he wasn't feeling well. They force the door open and wait for him to get changed before realising they've been had and Archer has legged it out the window of his bedroom. Yorkie and Mike give chase but lose him in the crowd of a nearby shopping street.
A lady has found an unknown urn of ashes on her doorstep and handed it to Viv who brought it with her to the station, not knowing what to do with it otherwise. Tom is equally lost, claiming she should have put it in a bin or something rather than bring it back with her.
Taffy reports a burglary to Ted but he's insistent he's not on duty and to take it to Mike 'cos he's got nothing to do'. Mike is being carpeted by Roy with Yorkie for letting the poacher leg it. Roy warns Yorkie that he will be up very early the next morning to return to Archer's to drag him out of bed - even if he is half dressed again - and to not let him have time alone. They get interrupted by a call coming in to report the robbery. It's a little more serious than Taffy let on as it's an armed robbery with a sawn off shotgun. It happened to a milkman and, from what he says, the description is Archer. There was no sign of a gun at the house but Mike suspects he had it in the bedroom with him. Roy blames Mike for Archer still being out there and wants Ted and Bob to work it. He calls the station to get June to stop them going out...
Roy returns with Mike and tasks Reg with finding Ted. Reg is already annoyed because he only walked in the front office - on his day off - and got tasked with cleaning someone else's mess.
At the bookies Bob is placing a bet after feeling lucky from his 20p win! Behind him as he speaks to the bookie, Archer arrives looking shifty and overhears that Bob is a police officer. The bookie teases Bob that he's picked a right plonker.
In the pub Sadie is 'entertained' by Ted miming to her why he's wearing a bright yellow waterproof coat. He's the only customer because it's before opening time.
Reg knocks repeatedly on the door to get Ted's attention and then tells him that Roy wants him. "I'm not here." "Well don't say I didn't tell you!" Ted sighs and laments that he can never have a day off, sinking his pint in one.
Mike asks at the council if they have any other information for Archer, perhaps another address or an address of a close relative. He comes up against a brick wall as the assistant refuses to hand out any information on Archer or his family, despite Mike's charm or his 'I'm just asking you to help me put away a dangerous nutter!' patter. She tells him to make a formal application because she won't bend the system for him. He begs her for a clue before someone gets hurt and she gives in, telling him that the Archer's arrived a year ago. Social Services visited the disused caravan park they'd moved into and found him scavenging for food with no water, rats and knee deep in rubbish. He was forcibly evicted and moved them into a flat.
Roy cancels the day off and wants uniform on standby to find Archer. Bob complains and says he should contact Division for cover but Roy insists it's down to Sun Hill's mistake and they have to cover and find him. June fights to get the men to listen to her and shouts that there's been another armed robbery. "Now do you want to argue?" Roy says pointedly to Ted and Bob.
The bookie that Bob was talking to insists he won't go to the hospital despite having his hand shot by a pellet gun by Archer. He insists he'll be alright and work the pellets out with a pen knife and soak it in disinfectant. 🤢 He tells Roy that the man said nothing to him and simply pointed the gun at him. He claims that the man is 'a bleedin' looney' and had 'that look in his eye'. He put his hands out to reach for the till to give him money and 'the looney' squeezed the trigger.
Mike tells Roy that Archer is a loner and has a Didicoi background (lives like a traveller but isn't a 'true blood' traveller). He used to be a "caravan dwelling roadside scrap metal dealer if you want the full title." Ted explains. Mike claims he's socially inadequate and can't adapt to 'normal' life and has struggled since being placed in a flat. Roy returns to the station, leaving Bob and Ted together at the scene as the experts, claiming "Poaching and fishing go together." "... Very good." the men chorus.
Jim calls in a sighting of Archer with 'something under his coat' but Archer got spooked and ran off before he could rob the grocer. Robin and Jim come face to face with him and Robin ends up getting shot whilst pursuing him.
Whilst the front office are trying to deal with getting help to Jim and Robin, a quiet and lost looking elderly man comes into the office telling Tom he's lost his wife. She was in the urn...
Mike, Bob and Ted race to help Jim and spot him chasing Archer. Archer takes an old lady and her 2 grandchildren hostage at gunpoint. They manage to get the kids away and try to calm Archer down but he locks himself inside the flats - a sheltered housing block - with the elderly woman. Bob updates the station, asking for Roy to be sent alongside backup. They evacuate the other flats in the same block into the day room so all the residents are together and safe and then evacuate the nearest houses facing the flats and place cordons to stop anyone getting near the window of the flat just in case.
Mike tells Roy that Ted has been in charge whilst waiting for him and that he's done very well. Ted comes over to explain that the woman who has been taken hostage, Mrs Knowles, is a very timid lady who easily frightens since she was mugged a couple of months ago. He was just about to find an observation point as Roy arrived. Archer has not made a demand nor has he been spotted by the windows yet. Roy arranges for armed response and someone from C7 (communications) to give them a link direct to the flat that is locked only to the police.
At the station Brownlow arranges for potential temporary accommodation for those displaced from their homes if it runs into the night time and sends assorted services to the scene. The press are starting to sniff around wanting to link Robin being shot with the siege. With things in hand, Brownlow heads to the scene himself. Bob watches the flats from the observation house whilst Roy attempts to make telephone contact with Archer. Archer hangs up before Roy can finish explaining who he is. "We might need to try something else..."
Viv comments that she's glad Archer didn't aim any lower on Robin because he was very close to 'losing his John Thomas.' June laughs that it's typical of Viv to think like that and then 'comforts' Yorkie by agreeing that he's likely to be used as cannon fodder by Roy when this is all over. Robin has had the pellets removed from his stomach and thankfully Archer was too far away from him to do any real damage. It would have been a very different story if just a little closer.
On scene, Roy lifts the letterbox with the end of a broom and calls through to Archer. Archer shouts at them to go away and won't let them inside. Roy asks him to put the phone back on the hook and they'll talk to him that way...
Archer locks the door and pushes things in front of it. "Need a bloody chainsaw to get in that way, now!" CID regroup and tool up, Ted of course still eating at the same time 🤣 and earns himself a dirty look from Roy and Brownlow for dropping bullets on the floor.
The warden arrives and tells them that he's called the nephew of the elderly lady as her daughter and son in law are away hence her having the grandchildren. Brownlow tries to ring Archer who answers. Brownlow promises him that he doesn't want to shoot him when Archer claims that's what they want - he just wants to know how he and Mrs Knowles are and if they need anything and let him know that he can talk to them by just picking up the phone. Archer hangs up without requesting or saying anything. Brownlow wants to keep everything as low key as possible - especially in Archer's line of sight - to try and get to a calm resolution as quickly as possible.
Needing to get to the other side of the window, Mike and Ted contemplate their options before legging it, head down, to the other side of the building, passing the very window of the flat Archer is holed up in. Luckily he doesn't shoot at them!
Archer finally rings and requests Bob after he saw him in the bookies so knows who he is and what he is. Bob is confused because he doesn't know him but he takes the phone. Archer wants him to come to the flat alone and will only talk that way. Roy walks with Bob as far as he can until they're in Archer's sightline. Roy wants more to be more involved but Bob reminds him of Brownlow's words - as low key as possible so as not to upset Archer. "If I do talk my way in I don't want you coming in through the window on a line or anything similar." Roy says it's his funeral and Bob laughs saying if it is, to not let Tom Penny near his ashes!
Slowly, Bob approaches the flats and heads inside. He knocks and is allowed inside the flat with his hands on his head. Archer searches him for weapons before letting him sit down near a terrified Mrs Knowles. Mrs Knowles quietly tells him that Archer spotted Bob in the bookies so he is the only person he wishes to talk to. "I don't like folks, I don't like talking to people I can't see!" Archer whimpers, pulling the wire from the phone.
Charles reassures Roy that Bob has the ideal temperament for dealing with Archer and tells him to give him time. In the flat, Archer stares out the window with his gun, listening but not reacting at first to Bob trying to get him to give himself up. Archer then insists he's only alive because he has hostages and that, come night-time, he'll show the police who is really cornered. Bob calmly tells him to switch the telly on to watch the news and sees what he's up against.
The communications bloke has some more equipment in the car that will allow him to listen in after a while. Roy says no and that he'll go and listen outside the flat instead - at least they'll find out if he has more ammunition that way (!)
Archer watches the news and sees the police and snipers outside waiting for him to come out. Mrs Knowles learns that he shot a policeman and panics which further riles Archer and makes him smash the television up. Mike reports the crash to Roy and then tells him of the meals on wheels van who tried to deliver when it all first kicked off and suggests they try pull a blag rather than Roy risking listening at the door.
Bob gently comforts Mrs Knowles and gets her to sit down, reassuring her that everything will be OK. Archer claims that he'll shoot him first if his friends come in. Bob tells him he came to help Archer and that if he's going to continue behaving like that he'll ditch him. Archer gets angry and pushes Bob against the wall claiming that it's him in charge.
Bob tells him they'd never let him walk out without him and that he's his 'passport' so needs to start working with him. Archer doesn't take it kindly...
Bob tells him to do it and Archer growls that he's getting on his nerves. He growls at Bob that he has no idea what it's like to be told to constantly moved on, 'get away from me you tinker', and hunted and trapped. He claims that's what the council did when they moved him into a flat. Bob said he should have talked to someone and that he'll listen to him and to talk before it's too late.
Archer seems to listen and backs off, looking back out the window. He looks from it to Bob and back again. "What will they do to me? If I give myself up?" he asks. Bob explains he'll have to go to court. Archer worried he'd go to prison. "I couldn't stand that...I'll kill myself first." Bob promises it doesn't have to be that way and that it'd be in his favour. He hasn't been in trouble before outside of the poaching, no record of violence and he promises he'd speak up for him as would Mrs Knowles.
The communications expert reports to Brownlow that a van is being let through the cordon.
Bob gently reassures him and asks him to give him the gun and that it can all be over. A nervous and very frightened Archer is about to give him it before he spots the van. He asks what it is and Mrs Knowles gently explains it'll be the meals on wheels lady and that she's late. Outside it's shown to be June in the ladies gillet. June removes meals from the van and Bob continues gently reassuring him.
Brownlow watches the goings on through binoculars and tells the communications expert that it's a police officer and that something must have happened, running over to the other officers.
Archer looks more paranoid and claims that he's being tricked and that Bob lied. Having spotted that June was the meals on wheels lady which likely means something is about to happen very quickly, Bob urges him to hand him the gun. June knocks on the door and the armed officers Sergeant give the 'go' order. Officers ring the bell and in the distraction Roy and Ted literally leap over the wall and kick in the back door, pointing guns at Archer. An armed officer points his gun through the window and Bob SCREAMS at Archer to drop the gun, knowing how close he'd been to a peaceful resolution.
In the rush and chaos, Archer doesn't get chance to drop his gun before Roy and Ted shoot him.
"He gave himself up. He was going to give me the gun! Can't you see that?!" Bob screams at Roy who tells him if he believes that he's a fool.

So you want to rent car...
While I was researching my trip, the number one suggestion I found was to rent a car. I didn't understand. Portugal is in Europe. Europe has excellent public transportation. Why on earth do I need to rent a car? Is their transportation system broken? Is it fundamentally flawed?
I stuck to my belief that if I am in Europe, I should not have to rent a car, and at no point do I have regrets. In fact what I have is extreme relief because I do not want to drive in Portugal. I had zero problems locating connections between cities on buses or trains. (Ok, I had one problem, but once I identified where I needed to make a connection, I had zero problems making that connection.) And other than swapping busses from Cascais to Sintra after the back-and-forth mountain bus was 5min late, not a single one of my connections was delayed.
The last minute swap from 30min mountain drive to 60min scenic adventure was a memorable one. I almost told the bus driver that he was the most amazing driver I had ever experienced. While kneeling down and kissing the ground.
Because Portugal is in Europe. Europe has tiny roads. Especially when driving along a mountainous coast. Because you take tiny roads, make them twisty, build walls along the road, and add other drivers. Coming at you. While you're in a standard city bus. Not a short bus. Not a minibus. A STANDARD CITY BUS.
At one point, the bus driver stopped at a road narrowing curve, got the two oncoming cars to reverse into the side of the curve so he could pass only to get stuck mid-curve by a camper van. A camper van that I'm sure was being driven by a foreigner because at no point did he have the European driving skills to get this van maneuvered out of the way of the bus. The camper driver literally threw up his hands in defeat at one point and we had to wait until the cars in front of him cleared the narrowed bridge so he could just go forward.
All the while the bus driver was directing oncoming traffic up the bend or telling them to hold where they were so he could inch the bus forward along the remainder of the curve.
Once we were moving again, the driver attempted to make up time by getting every last millisecond of speed out of these curves. I saw at least two drivers of opposing cars with terrified looks on their faces as we squeaked by their car. Seriously. Impressive driving. That I never want to have to do. Drive in Portugal? Nope.
But ok, you want to drive in Portugal. You survived the microscopic mountain roads and have made it to the city. Let's park.
Actual. Parked. Cars. With no drivers to be seen. What system is this?! And you want to drive in Portugal?! WHY?!
But back to those camper vans. They were another frequent appearance as I was looking up details. "Oh, it was so amazing! We camped all over and could just pack up and drive!"
Please, you are in a vehicle that is 3x, 4x, 5x as large as every other vehicle. You are literally only smaller than a bus. We should fill tiny Portuguese roads with camper vans? You can't even get your camper van to fit into a lane in a city – and you're taking that out to the tiny, twisty roads so you can hold up all the traffic while you try to figure out how to maneuver the thing out of the way? Really?
Don't drive in Portugal. Leave it to the locals.

Sheffield Airport Transfers: A Comprehensive Guide for Hassle-Free Travel
Sheffield, a vibrant city in South Yorkshire, England, is a popular destination for both business and leisure travelers. With its bustling city life, rich industrial history, and proximity to the scenic Peak District, Sheffield attracts visitors from all over the globe. One of the first challenges that travelers face upon arrival is finding a reliable airport transfer service. In this guide, we’ll delve into everything you need to know about Sheffield airport transfers, covering options, pricing, benefits, and tips for a smooth travel experience.
1. Why Choose Sheffield Airport Transfers?
Arriving in a new city or even returning from a trip can be stressful, especially when it comes to navigating public transportation or booking a last-minute taxi. Opting for an airport transfer service offers numerous benefits:
Convenience: Pre-booked transfers mean no waiting in long taxi lines.
Reliability: Most transfer services monitor your flight status, ensuring timely pickups, even with delays.
Cost-Effective: With fixed pricing, you know the cost upfront, eliminating hidden fees.
Comfort: After a long flight, there’s nothing better than a comfortable and spacious vehicle to take you directly to your destination.
2. Sheffield’s Airport Transfer Options
There are several airport transfer options available in Sheffield, catering to different budgets and group sizes. Here’s a breakdown of popular options:
a. Private Car Transfers
Private car transfers are ideal for travelers who prioritize privacy and comfort. This service usually includes a professional driver and a choice of high-quality vehicles like sedans, SUVs, or luxury cars. Private car transfers are popular for business travelers or families who prefer a direct ride without any stops.
b. Shared Shuttles
For budget-conscious travelers, shared shuttle services offer a cost-effective way to get from the airport to Sheffield. With this service, you share the vehicle with other passengers heading to nearby locations. While it’s more economical, keep in mind that there may be additional stops along the way to drop off other passengers.
c. Executive and Luxury Transfers
If you’re looking to add a touch of luxury to your journey, many companies offer executive transfers featuring high-end vehicles and VIP amenities. This option is popular among corporate clients and those celebrating special occasions.
d. Minibus and Group Transfers
For larger groups or families traveling together, a minibus or larger vehicle is an ideal solution. Most airport transfer companies offer minibuses or coaches that can accommodate groups, making it both economical and convenient.
e. Taxi and Rideshare Services
Traditional taxis and rideshare services, like Uber and Bolt, are available at major airports. While they offer flexibility, prices can fluctuate depending on demand and time of day. Unlike pre-booked services, taxis may not always have fixed rates for longer journeys.

Hassle-Free Group Travel with Minibus Hire in Cardiff
Group travel is always demanding—be it business or pleasure. Coordinating the schedules of everyone, comfort, and above all, figuring out the most efficient mode of transport are just some of the challenges that come with group travel. Minibus hire services with a driver in Cardiff can be really lifesavers during such travels. From corporate events to family reunions, days out with friends, or an airport transfer, Cardiff minibus hire makes travel easy. Read on for the comprehensive guide that will enable you to compare the advantages, choices, and factors to weigh when choosing a minibus hire or coach hire service in Cardiff.
Why Minibus Hire with Driver in Cardiff?
When traveling in groups, the logistics of transportation can quickly mount to the heavens. Public transport might not be feasible. Multiple vehicles could mean unnecessary expenses, coordination issues, as well as parking hassles. Here are some reasons why choosing a minibus with a driver in Cardiff is the smart option:
Comfort and Convenience: Being in minibuses is perfect because of good balance between space and comfort. Unlike those cramped cars or any public transport, minibuses give enough legroom, spacious seating, and even some extra luggage space, making the travel quite comfortable for every person on board. If there is a driver, then worry about navigating and traffic troubles would be omitted, and everybody will just sit, relax, and enjoy the ride.
Affordable group travel: Hiring several taxis or cars is pretty costly, especially in traveling in big groups. Hiring a minibus in Cardiff offers the best alternate which falls between capacity with a coach and affordability of sharing. The cost is usually divided among the group members, and hiring a minibus can be regarded as the most economical to undertake group journeys.
Secure and Professional Drivers: One of the greatest benefits of having a minibus with a driver in Cardiff would be the assured safety. Professional drivers are significantly more aware of the local roads and traffic patterns, thus making the journey much more smoother. Moreover, professional drivers are trained to cope with long drives as well as group dynamics, thereby meaning your safety and comfort take precedence above all.
Elasticity of Scheduling: Whether your travels are to be one day or several, minibus hire companies can arrange flexible times to suit your itinerary. If you wish to visit multiple locations in or around Cardiff, then the driver can keep strictly to your itinerary: no more arranging of myriad different transportations for you.
Kinds of minibuses to let
You can make the choice of booking a minibus hire in Cardiff based on the number of individuals traveling with you, for instance. Generally, here are some common categories of minibuses that you can consider for booking:
8-Seater Minibus: The perfect vehicle for small groups would be the 8-seater minibus, suitable for that family trip, business travel, or even events carrying a relatively small crew. It is compact and spacious at the same time; it offers the ability to transport passengers and luggage.
16-Seater Minibus: The 16-seater minibus can carry people, spare equipment, or even baggage and allow its accommodation within one vehicle. It is mainly used for sporting teams, wedding parties, and corporate events.
24-Seater Minibus: For events such as school trips or large family reunions or group excursions, a 24-seater minibus will be perfectly suitable with its size retaining personal and intimate touch of minibus but capable of accommodating more passengers comfortably enough.
Luxury Minibus Hire: For the traveler who is looking for a journey that is lavish and comfortable, luxury minibus options are also available, complete with leather seats and air conditioning and entertainment facilities. This can be an excellent choice for corporate groups or any traveler who wants to add elegance to their trip.
Coach Hire Cardiff: Transportation Solutions for More Significant Groups
For groups of more than a minibus capacity, services of coach hire in Cardiff are the best. Coaches can be very beneficial since they accommodate 30-70 people and are ideal for big events such as weddings, conferences, or school trips. The hire coaches are also suitable for long travel with facilities like toilets, Wi-Fi, and a comfortable seating arrangement.
Coach Hire Prices in Cardiff
Prices for hiring a coach in Cardiff are on the rise depending on its size, distance it has to travel to reach the destination, and other additional services one requires. However, coach hire remains affordable for sizes of a specific number or more, especially when reservation is involved with consideration for the service provided and their offers. The bottom line is to get quotes from various providers before booking, as this would help cut the price if done on time before making the trip.
Key Issues to Note When Renting a Minibus in Cardiff
To have the best from your minibus hire in Cardiff, consider the following essential facts:
Group Size: Book in advance by determining an approximate count of attendees to ensure you book the right size minibus or coach to allow for space on board.
Length of trip and mileage: The number of days or hours you will be making your journey will determine the kind of minibus or coach you will need, as well as the general price of hiring. For longer trips, one may want some more comforts like onboard entertainment or more comfortable seats.
Space for luggage: If your group has much baggage, for example when traveling to the airport or on a multi-day tour, you should make sure whether the minibus has sufficient space available. Many operators offer special vehicles with larger luggage space for this purpose.
Special Requirements: There are many minibus hire companies that offer tailor-made deals, including child seats and wheelchair access as well as food and drink for a longer journey. Don't forget to always inform your provider of your particular requirements to have a smooth day.
Conclusion: Ensure that your next journey is smooth and easy with a minibus hire in Cardiff
Minibus hire with a driver in Cardiff, therefore, will give you the best deal in group travel that is convenient, affordable, and safe. It will easily accommodate short city tours and long trips through minibus services tailored to your needs. Whatever be the size of your group or occasion-from an 8-seater minibus to huge coaches-you can find a solution.
Then, when planning your group travel in Cardiff, do not forget the benefit of hiring a minibus with driver to make stress-free and enjoyable travel. Not only can you save money but also enjoy the ultimate comfort and convenience. Let a trusted minibus hire service in Cardiff help you today to make travelling successful!
