Mix Puppies for Sale in India: A Comprehensive Guide
Mix puppies, often referred to as mixed-breed or cross-breed puppies, are becoming increasingly popular in India for their unique appearances, varied traits, and affordable prices. If you’re considering adding a mix puppy to your family, this guide will help you navigate the process of finding mix puppies for sale in India and ensure you choose a healthy, happy companion.
What Are Mix Puppies?
Mix puppies are the offspring of two or more different dog breeds. Unlike purebred dogs, mix puppies can inherit a combination of traits from each parent breed, which can result in a diverse range of appearances, temperaments, and sizes. Commonly mixed breeds include combinations like Labrador-Poodle, Beagle-Bulldog, or Pomeranian-Chihuahua, among many others.
Why Choose a Mix Puppy?
Unique Traits: Each mix puppy is unique, often showcasing a blend of physical and behavioral traits from its parent breeds.
Affordability: Mix puppies are generally more affordable than purebred dogs, making them a cost-effective choice for many families.
Health Benefits: Mixed-breed dogs often have hybrid vigor, which means they can be less prone to certain genetic health issues commonly seen in purebred dogs.
Diverse Options: With so many possible combinations, you can find a mix puppy that matches your preferences in terms of size, coat type, and temperament.
Popular Mix Breeds in India
Labrador-Poodle Mix (Labradoodle): Known for their friendly nature and low-shedding coats, Labradoodles are popular among families and individuals alike.
Beagle-Bulldog Mix: Combining the Beagle’s playful personality with the Bulldog’s sturdy build, this mix offers a unique blend of characteristics.
Pomeranian-Chihuahua Mix (Pomchi): Small, energetic, and affectionate, Pomchis are well-suited for apartment living and are known for their lively personalities.
Shih Tzu-Pomeranian Mix: This mix often results in a small, fluffy dog with a sweet temperament and a playful nature.
Where to Find Mix Puppies for Sale in India
1. Reputable Breeders
Finding a reputable breeder is crucial when looking for mix puppies for sale in India. Look for breeders who:
Specialize in mixed breeds and maintain high standards of care.
Provide health documentation, including vaccinations and health clearances.
Allow you to visit their facilities and meet the puppies and their parents.
Tip: Research breeders thoroughly. Read reviews, ask for references, and ensure they follow ethical breeding practices to guarantee the health and well-being of their dogs.
2. Animal Shelters and Rescues
Animal shelters and rescue organizations often have mixed-breed puppies available for adoption. Adopting from a shelter is a wonderful way to give a puppy a second chance at a loving home. When adopting:
Visit local shelters and rescue groups to meet available puppies.
Inquire about the puppy’s health status, behavior, and any special needs.
Tip: Adopting a puppy from a shelter or rescue group not only provides a home for a needy animal but also often comes with the benefit of the puppy being spayed/neutered and vaccinated.
3. Online Platforms
Online platforms and social media groups can be useful for finding mix puppies for sale in India. However, exercise caution:
Verify the credibility of the seller and ensure they provide proper documentation.
Be wary of deals that seem too good to be true and always ask for health records and verification of the puppy’s lineage.
Tip: Use established and reputable online platforms that offer detailed information and facilitate direct communication with the seller to ensure a legitimate transaction.
Key Considerations Before Buying
Health Verification: Ensure the mix puppy has been thoroughly examined by a veterinarian and comes with complete health clearances and vaccinations. Mixed-breed dogs can still be prone to health issues, so a thorough health check is essential.
Cost: While generally more affordable than purebred dogs, the price of mix puppies can vary based on factors like the parent breeds and the breeder’s reputation. Consider ongoing costs for healthcare, food, and grooming.
Grooming and Care Needs: Different mix breeds may have varying grooming requirements. Be prepared for the care needs of your puppy based on its coat type and parentage.
Training and Socialization: Like all puppies, mix puppies need proper training and socialization. Ensure you are prepared to invest time in training and providing a positive environment for your new pet.
Conclusion
Finding mix puppies for sale in India can be an exciting journey, offering the chance to welcome a unique and affectionate companion into your home. By choosing a reputable breeder or adopting from a shelter, verifying the puppy’s health, and preparing for its care needs, you can ensure a smooth and successful adoption process.

A Little Hope (HT Puppy Intro!)
Your phone pinged unexpectedly. Luckily you were on your lunch break, so you clicked on the text.
Sansy: hey cher. my bro wanted to make sure you saw pics of our newest family member. i hope you can come to meet her soon. she’s a good girl and i think you’d like her.
The picture below was of a small brown and white puppy with wavy fur and big brown eyes. You couldn’t help squealing as you looked at it.
You: That is the cutest puppy I have ever seen! What kind is she? Where did you get her? How long have you had her? Does she know any tricks yet? What’s her name? She is so, so, SO cute!!!
Luckily, Sansy didn’t leave you in suspense. He actually texted back after a couple of minutes. In true Sans fashion, he answered each of your texts in a separate text so that your phone pinged repeatedly as each one came through.
Sansy: she’s a labradoodle.
Sansy: we got her from a local breeder that trains their pups to be service dogs. a friend thought that’d be good for me and pap.
Sansy: we’ve had her for about a month.
Sansy: she hasn’t learned any tricks yet, but she’s pretty smart. we’re working on stuff like ‘pee outside’ and ‘sit’ right now, but i know my bro has plans to teach her all kinds of things. the folks we got her from are teaching her to be a service dog and all that. some stuff she’s just naturally good at, like cuddling.
Sansy: she is pretty cute. her name is hope.
He sent through one more picture. In this one, Hope was sitting between him and Sweets on their couch, with her head in Sweets’s lap and her feet just touching Sansy’s thigh. Both the skeletons looked happier than you’d ever seen them. You wanted to ask more, but a look at the clock told you that your break was nearly over. Instead, you sent one more text.
You: I will have to come meet her soon! Hope is a great name, and it sounds like she’s going to be a big help for you and Sweets. Send more pictures later, okay?
Sansy: Will do, cher.
Hope the puppy is actually this real puppy, who has apparently found a forever home somewhere. I picked her because she has an interesting coat pattern and she looks sweet.
If you want to know more about the kind of training Hope would be doing, I found information about labradoodle service dogs at this site.
I know you guys had some name suggestions, and I really did love all of them, but I went to title this thing and the pun wrote itself, and it just seemed perfect. I hope you guys like Hope. 😊

Bring a Fluffy Labradoodle Home
Labradoodle breeders in Florida are plentiful and varied.
You can find reputable breeders who have been around for years, as well as more recent ones who just started a few years ago. There are some that specialize in certain types of labradoodles, and there are also some that will sell you an entire litter of puppies (and others who will sell you just one puppy).
If you're looking to buy a puppy from one of these breeders, it's important to be aware of what they're offering and how they're offering it. For example, many breeders offer puppies at different ages—some may only be able to offer puppies older than 6 months, while others may only be able to offer puppies younger than 8 weeks old. Some will charge more for the older puppies (often because they're considered more mature), while others will charge less for the younger ones (because they've had more time to develop).
In general, Labradoodle breeders in Florida tend to be very knowledgeable about the breed and its history. They tend also to be very experienced in training their dogs, which means that even if you don't end up buying from them directly (maybe because they're not local), you'll.

Before you go one step further, read this.

Before you go one step further, read this.
A dog is a 10 to 15-year commitment to the life of an intelligent being that forms attachments and is capable of experiencing – and inflicting – emotional suffering.
Cash is pretty cute, I can kind of understand paying $9000 for him.Credit:Bark Busters
Lest I sound holier than thou, I’m aware of this because I recently strongly encouraged someone close to me to get a pet to assuage their loneliness and gain companionship.
They did get companionship … along with enormous expense, initial and ongoing difficulty and stress, little of which we foresaw. I did research in good faith, but a lot of it missed the mark and was about how to vet your breeder and choose a dog breed.
This kind of research completely misses points like what breeds are actually available and whether small dogs and/or puppies are really good ideas for people who need an easy dog.
In case it helps anyone else, I’ll explore these questions and issues over the coming few columns and how WA (along with the other states, most likely) has ended up here.
For starters, costs.
Animal Medicines Australia’s latest pet ownership report from 2019 found the average household spends $2158 a year on its dog. The RSPCA estimates closer to $2500.
This includes food, vet services and healthcare, insurance, accessories, grooming, boarding/minding and training.
If you take the average lifespan of a dog as 13 you’re looking at roughly $30,000 and this is before you’ve bought the actual pooch.
We recently detailed Perth people paying $4000-$5000 for border collie pups and $10,000-$15,000 for puppies online in what were frequently scams.
Maureen Guelfi, a Bark Busters trainer in Perth, with Jasper. Credit:Bark Busters
My personal search for a poodle-cross for my loved one showed an average of around $6000 and puppies were scarce.
Maureen Guelfi, a Perth dog trainer with Bark Busters, told me one of her clients spent $9000 on his pug, hence its name: Cash.
“Hero” breeds such as blue Staffordshire pups were frequently $4500. “Caddlepoos” were ranging from $6500-$7000 or $7500 for a groodle or a labradoodle. Many paid an extra $1000 to fly the dogs to Perth.
“The breeders are rubbing their hands together,” she said.
My experience was that it is difficult to find a breeder in Perth who will tick every box the RSPCA suggests to ensure that you are not patronising a puppy farm, or buying a dog susceptible to health issues. (See the comprehensive guide here.)
It is tough to insist on documentation and proofs while a puppy is bouncing around, knowing demand is so high there are plenty behind you in line asking fewer questions.
On the other hand, Karen Rhodes, president of Shenton Park Dogs’ Refuge Home, says many more dogs are being surrendered than normal and almost three-quarters are victims of Perth’s rental squeeze.
“We are getting about 30 a week in … from local and regional pounds … five to 10 surrender calls a day,” she said.
She said many regional pounds have no choice but to euthanise dogs if Perth no-kill shelters are full.
Loading
“There are hundreds, thousands of dogs a year being put down,” she said.
Perth’s median house rent reached $572 in May and rising interest rates are likely to filter through as further rent rises.
Domain predicts Perth house rents will reach a new record in the current quarter.
And neither the state nor federal government have come up with any credible response to the country’s housing crises.
So before you shop, think. Do you have a spare $30,000-$40,000 over the next 10 years?
If you’re renting, do you have a sizeable safety net saved up – think three months’ worth of living expenses – that will enable you to deal with emergencies: job loss, severe illness, homelessness or overcrowding, for you and your family?
If you don’t, that dog will be the first thing to go when the going gets tough.
I understand the desire. I miss having a pet. As I write this series I will see numerous photos of adorable dogs. I am going to want them. But I’m not going to get one. Because I don’t have the time, space, money or the emotional bandwidth to give them what they need.

Thank you all for tagging along in the experience of adopting Suzie. I hope by now you can see how rewarding it is to save animals who did nothing wrong! My first dog my family got for my 9th birthday from a breeder. He is an awesome dog, but rescuing a dog does make you feel like you are helping solve a problem. At the end of the day, people who want to get pets should check out their local shelters first to see if they connect with anyone! I understand that some breeds are very rare to be found at shelters, but you never know! I wanted a hypoallergenic dog, like a labradoodle, and I got one! Suzie being a labradoodle-schnauzer mix is close enough for me and I can give her a great home while not having allergies! At the end of the day, animals deserve better than we treat them, and I hope this blog shows the adoption process for dogs can be very rewarding.

some things people need to get straight
Don’t buy puppies from pet stores to “save the puppies from being mistreated!!” While this is done with the best of intentions, the puppy mill problem isn’t really about the puppies- the actual puppies are usually treated okay, it’s the parents that are kept in horrible conditions and forced to breed until they die. While you may be giving a home to one dog if you buy from a pet store, you’re supporting the misery of hundreds of other dogs with your money.
USDA certification isn’t a sign of a reputable breeder. It’s actually the mark of a puppy mill and if you see this, run fast in the opposite direction. CKC registration (Continental Kennel Club, not Canadian) is also a huge red flag.
But having AKC registered puppies doesn’t mean they’re reputable, either. While most good breeders (in the US) will have AKC registration, AKC isn’t picky about which dogs they register, so plenty of bad breeders do too. Also, “champion bloodlines” means nothing unless they’re at least in the second or third generations of a pedigree.
Stereotyping breeds is not “like racism for dogs”. Humans weren’t strategically bred for hundreds of years to develop traits to assist them in specific tasks. Dogs were, so retrievers retrieve, greyhounds run, shepherds herd, and terriers fight. It’s not “all in how you raise them”. Genetics. They do stuff. Science. And hey could we maybe not compare the systemic oppression of minorities to people saying chihuahuas are barky? Thanks
Designer breeds i.e. labradoodles, maltipoos, cavachons etc. are not “the best of both worlds!” Again, genetics...that’s not how they work. Also realize that most of these dogs (especially since they are common products of puppy mills) don’t come from well-bred parents because reputable breeders generally don’t allow their dogs to be used to breed crosses. Like I’ve seen poodle breeders literally write it in their puppy contracts that they will take back the dog if they find out it’s being used to create “doodles”.
If you support importing foreign rescue dogs but use the “overpopulation of shelter dogs in the US” factoid to protest dog breeding you’re a fucking hypocrite.
Don’t tell people “you can find any breed in a shelter!” Like ??? Yeah lemme just go find Cesky Terrier at my local humane society! I genuinely have no idea why people say this when it’s obviously not true?
Puppies aren’t a blank slate, and adult dogs don’t all come with awful baggage. If a puppy is genetically predisposed to aggression, all the early socialization in the world might not help at all. And while any adult dog will be shaped by its past, not all rescue dogs are abused and many are there because of circumstances completely unrelated to them and have had perfectly normal lives. You also have the advantage of already knowing their temperament, energy level, and any behavioral issues.

Why last doggy-promoting puppy stores Will now not get rid of domestic dog turbines
lately, national Mill canine Rescue, a puppy mill rescue organization placed near my fatherland, posted a question on their fb page asking their readers if the rescue institution ought to arrange protests at neighborhood area puppy shops that sell puppies. The purpose of such protests is to end puppy save doggy income due to the fact it is anticipated that 95%-ninety nine% of puppy keep dogs come from puppy mills in place of from local breeders as customers are commonly advised.
in case you live even extremely modern with country wide information, you are aware that this protest tactic is getting used all around the united states of america with a few a long way-accomplishing effects. In some towns, person shops have closed. In some regions of the u . s . complete save chains have agreed to forestall selling puppies; and a few chains have switched the domestic dog-promoting element of their commercial enterprise to dog adoption. at the same time as those are certainly advantageous consequences, there are a few terrible effects of these protests that want to be considered before the selection to protest is made.
pup generators are horrible places! pup mill proprietors normally have anywhere from below 100 to over one thousand breeding puppies. these puppies stay in atrocious situations. They frequently live in tiny man or woman cages (with out strong floors), or with many dogs in a single cage, or with many cages stacked on top of each other, or in concrete enclosures, or maybe cardboard packing containers and constantly with negative sanitation. those dogs frequently need to sit and sleep in their own urine and feces. Rescued breeder dogs are every so often determined to be blind because of burns from urine fumes.
those dogs are fed reasonably-priced, negative great meals and are frequently with out water for lengthy intervals of time. there is little or no veterinary care. injuries are frequent but seldom dealt with. Sanitation, if it exists, typically involves energy washing with the dogs still inside the cages. The noise level in huge operations regularly causes deafness. till you have got watched videos approximately doggy mills or have participated in a rescue, you'll have problem imagining the real dwelling conditions these breeding puppies have to endure. it's far vital to usually take into account that every lovable puppy inside the window of a puppy shop has dad and mom suffering in horrible situations.
In additions to those horrible conditions, those breeder puppies have to have litters of puppies every cycle--usually two instances every yr-and this keeps until the dogs are literally worn out bodily or the girls show to be bad mothers. At this factor, the puppies are useless to the owner. when a breeder canine becomes useless, it's far "eliminated."
within the past, domestic dog mill proprietors eliminated their useless dogs through methods that had been seldom humane. through the years, there have been information tales exposing cases of gassing, taking pictures, beating, poisoning, and so forth., with lifeless puppies left in piles. these memories result in the proliferation of domestic dog mill rescue organizations that at first operated via stealth--stealing dogs beneath the duvet of darkness.
these days it's far extra common to find that these breeding operations and rescue organizations have created "working relationships." while breeders have dogs to remove, a phone name is made, and a rescue group drives to the belongings and takes the puppies from the breeder. This, of direction, leaves the breeder loose to preserve the cycle. these "running relationships" shop the lives of puppies that could in any other case were killed; however they do no longer purpose domestic dog generators to go out of enterprise!
As the public is becoming greater informed, people are starting to actively paintings towards "putting off" this enterprise. understanding that pet shops, with few exceptions, inventory their shops from doggy mills reasons many people to accept as true with that if puppy stores forestall promoting puppies, then the domestic dog mills will go out of commercial enterprise. this is, but, faulty good judgment. preventing the sale of dogs at pet shops does not anything to stop the call for for dogs. In truth, the cutting-edge demand for "fashion designer" dogs, like pugles, cockapoos, labradoodles, etc., is increasing rapidly. due to the fact reliable AKC breeders do not breed clothier dogs, only domestic dog mills can meet the call for.
i will pay attention your mind! If pet stores prevent selling puppies, customers will no longer have anywhere to shop for them, and doggy generators will haven't any area to sell them. As you simply read that final sentence, i'm hoping the word "no region to promote" stuck your interest. there's an area where all and sundry can sell some thing with genuinely no law--the internet. these breeder/proprietors actually transfer their commercial enterprise to the internet. The net provides these proprietors a sizable promoting area with out a licensing requirements, no policies to comply with, and no inspections skip. in just the past few years, the wide variety of puppies bought on-line has increased to the factor that it now equals the wide variety bought in puppy shops.
there's nothing approximately protesting in the front of puppy shops with a intention of closure in an effort to result in the loss of life of this enterprise. In truth, in many ways, the closure of puppy shops allows the very enterprise we wish to remove.
there is, but, one fantastic thing to protesting in the front of pet stores--PUBLIC education. There are effective techniques for removing puppy mills and they all begin with public schooling. If people take into account that shopping for a domestic dog online handiest will increase the trouble, and if they keep in mind that shopping for designer dogs will increase the hassle, and if they learn what has to happen to modify the net sale of animals, and in the event that they learn what needs to take place to enable more inspections with energy of closure, and in the event that they learn how to make each shelter a No Kill safe haven, and if they analyze that adoption is ultimate, they may start the technique to eventually close down the complete puppy mill enterprise.

unpopular opinion
i hate goldendoodles/labradoodles
fucking. hate them.
not because they’re bad dogs (i dont find them cute but thats besides the point)
but because in my area, they’re the “it” dog. Everyone has one. Everyone is getting one. First it was respectable breeders, now it’s backyard breeders hoping to make a quick buck. I had a family bring a way too young goldendoodle some Amish people bred on a whim. It cost something like $600 and was infested with fleas and kept outdors 24/7 and never had human contact. It was just a mess of a dog that pissed and shit wherever whenever.
“They don’t shed! They don’t shed ever!” The stammering masses scream.
“Everything sheds! They shed less and shed constantly instead of in seasons, you morons!” I shriek back in vain.
“I want a goldendoodle!” Shouts the soccer mom in her yoga pants, Starbucks quivering in her hand. “But I want it cheap, already fixed, and with shots! I’m not spending a lot on this dog, my kid Laikayllah wants it for her birthday! Do you know any local breeders like this?”
“Unfortunately no, there’s no breeder like that. Why not adopt?” I ask meekly, already knowing the answer.
“ABSOLUTELY NOT” The woman wails in frequencies commonly associated with erupting volcanoes. She slams the Starbucks drink down. I am showered in lukewarm latte. “Shelter dogs are mentally damaged! Shelter dogs are filthy mongrels with diseases!! I want a healthy dog, damnit!” The woman begins to froth at the mouth. The whites of her eyes darting angrily.
“ARE YOU GONNA GIVE ME WHAT I WANT?! I AM THE CUSTOMER AND THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT FHFUHWIGSIHVJDUHE”
Her words descend into unholy demonic shrieking I cannot understand. It does not matter now. My soul has already left my body and roams to get as far away as possible.

How To Stop A Dog Thief
Globally, dog theft has been on the rise for the past few years. So if you think your dog isn’t at risk… you may want to THINK AGAIN!
Dog theft is devastating to loving pet owners. It can bring your life to a standstill and can cause devastating depression.
Let us face it, it is sad enough to lose a dog to old age and disease, sometimes via the difficult decision of euthanasia. Losing your dog to a THIEF… not knowing where he is, if he’s safe, if he’s even still alive? It would be torture.
Unfortunately, real numbers and statistics of pet and dog theft are hard to find. In most countries, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, and even Australia dogs are considered property. Many times, the only viable statistics available come from those who report these thefts to their insurance companies. Think of how many dog owners and pet owners don’t ever consider filing a claim and you will realize how little we truly know about dog theft around the world.
However, the little information that we do have shows us two very frightening facts.
#1. Pet and dog theft is a gateway (or first sign) of animal cruelty and/or torture.
#2. Certain dog breeds are more at risk to be stolen from their owners in certain places or areas of the world. French Bulldogs, Pit Bulls, American Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Bull Terriers (think Spuds Mackenzie), Yorkshire Terriers, Siberian Huskies, Chihuahuas, and even Labradoodles, as well as purebred Retrievers, make the list.
Rarely is the sheriff’s office called, and even when the sheriff’s office or police department is contacted, the act can seldom be proven. Thankfully with the invention of cheap and easy to use home video systems, these crimes are being caught on camera more often.
Different states have different laws but most dog theft or pet theft does not qualify as a felony or grand theft in the third degree. If the value of the pet is over five hundred to over one thousand dollars in some states it may qualify as grand theft versus petty theft (which is often only a misdemeanor); making the penalties higher if the individual can be or is caught and the case can be proven.
Reasons Criminals Steal Dogs
Monetary Reasons
Yes, it is sad but it is true. Many times, immoral people and drug addicts steal things that will help them to profit and or fuel their illegal habits.
How often have you seen “Lost” or “Missing” pet signs, around your neighborhood, that offer a large sum of cash as a reward?
Sadly, especially in affluent or wealthy neighborhoods dogs and other pets can become targets as a means to make quick money.
Purebred dogs often can be sold for thousands of dollars and distraught pet and dog owners will often pay more than what they are worth to get their beloved pet back.
Puppies are even more at risk, because they are easily “flipped” or resold for profit.
Stolen dogs can be big business.
Research Institutions
Wicked people looking for easy money often target pets left outside, go to animal shelters, animal auctions and take pets offered “free to a good home” and sell them to research institutions that offer money for animals that they can conduct research on with very little financial output.
Although research institutions try to avoid stolen dogs, especially on paper, many stolen dogs are taken to these places for profit.
Bait Dogs
Dogs are often stolen or adopted off Craigslist or from shelters to be sold as “bait dogs” for the illegal world of dogfighting.
Wretchedly, the world of dogfighting is very profitable and still exists all over the world. Don’t believe me? Volunteer at your local shelter and you will see the wounded and scarred Pit Bulls and other fighting breeds come in and be held until their court case works through the system. Most often these dogs are euthanized before even given a chance to go up for adoption due to animal aggression issues (as you can well imagine).
In the beginning, in order to get these fighting breeds to adequately and vigorously fight one another to the death they introduce them to much weaker dogs that are easily killed; “bait dogs.” This process builds their confidence and often makes them more willing to fight.
Bait dogs can be sold to people who profit from dog fights (yes, there is big money in this underground and illegal enterprise). Remember the worldwide attention quarterback Michael Vick received when it was discovered (while investigating another crime) that his Pit Bull “breeding” kennel “Bad Newz Kennels” was involved in dogfighting and illegal gambling? In 2006, just one year before charges were filed Michael Vick was the highest-paid NFL player.
Gambling purses alone went for upwards of $26,000, which is a lot of money. According to witnesses Vick and his other cohorts were known to laugh when their trained fighting Pit Bulls killed pet dogs.
Regrettably, the world of dogfighting exists and is still big business and gambling in and around the world.
Insurance Fraud
Yes, this also exists although probably to a smaller extent.
When I was a young, young dog trainer, I knew a breeder of Cocker Spaniels. They happened to have a very rare color within their breed. Oddly they bragged about the color and how they had taken out pet insurance on the puppy.
Oddly enough, their puppy died suddenly and they used the insurance money to buy a $20,000 boat.
And, although this is rarely a reason for dog theft (unless a third party is paid), it is still something that sticks in my mind when it comes to pet insurance.
As far as I know, it was never proven as insurance fraud. But, to this day I have my doubts that the death of the puppy was accidental.
Other Reasons, Beyond Financial Gain
Animal Torture and Abuse
As we are well aware due to many studies in modern psychology, animal torture, cruelty, and abuse is linked to antisocial behavior and severe and disturbing mental disorders. Alarmingly, the act of animal torture and cruelty is known to psychologists as “Intentional Animal Torture and Cruelty” (IATC). There are many types of Intentional Animal Torture and Cruelty including religious sacrifice, artistic sacrifice, psychopathic personality disorders (zoosadism), or sexual disorders.
In the 1970s when behavior profiling was in its infancy one of the most consistent findings of the Federal Bureau of Investigation was that Intentional Animal Torture and Cruelty was seen as a common behavior, in childhood, of early serial murderers and rapists.
I really hate to go into this more, as just doing the research for this article sickens me; but let me assure you that this kind of behavior still exists in the human or inhumane world of humans and neighborhood pets are often used as a likely source because they are easily available.
Stealing To Get The Dog You Can’t Buy (Or Afford)
Yes, it seems ridiculous; but some people steal pets or specifically purebred dogs because they cannot afford to buy the dog that they want.
You can search the Internet and find videos of often women sticking pure breed puppies in their purse or shirt and walking out of pet shops and pet stores. These puppies are often upwards of $1,000.
Sometimes the thieves think that they are giving the stolen dog a better life. And, honestly sometimes stolen dogs get just that.
I am embarrassed to admit that I have known people who have stolen dogs. These dogs were often chained outside day in and day out; sometimes they were left with no shelter and no food or water. I can think of one I used to drive by every day when I lived in GA. I watched him grow from a puppy into an adult. He had barely a shelter and animal control wouldn’t do anything about his conditions. Never did he get to go inside; EVER. Someone in the animal community took him to give him a new lease on life while he was still a year or so old.
I have often seen a Pit Bull that is my best friend’s neighbor’s dog. He also is never invited inside and sits outside no matter how cold or rainy it is in our climate. I wish I could steal him and give him a better life. A life where he can actually have a “pack” and a loving human and the food and shelter and warm bed that he desires.
Pet theft and dog theft comes in many forms.
Although all are illegal. You judge what falls in the parameters of morally acceptable and what is not.
At least dogs thieved to be personal pets are more likely to have a better chance at life than other dogs or companion animals that are stolen.
The truth is, good pet owners never want their dog to be on that list of stolen dogs that the police or insurance company has to investigate!
So let us talk about how to keep our dogs safe!
Protect Your Dog from Dog Theft
Secure Your Area
The first thing to keep in mind is to secure your area. Make sure that you have locks to lock your fence. Wooden fences provide more security and keep neighbors and passers-by from being able to see your dogs.
Wooden fences also keep dogs from being reactive and overexcited because they limit what they can visually see.
Keep An Eye on Him
Don’t put your dog outside for hours on end, even if he likes to go outside be sure that you keep an eye on him.
Every 20 minutes or so check on him and make sure that he is still in your yard and safely secured.
No Signs
Although many people believe that they should get signs that announce their dog’s presence in their home or in their yard; these signs may actually do more harm than good.
“Dog on Premises” or “Warning Guard Dog” signs simply alert would-be thieves to the fact that you own a dog!
If you want to keep someone from breaking into your home, I suggest that you use a security system sign or an alert to video surveillance.
Don’t Leave Your Dog Outside While You Are Gone
Dogs left outside for hours at a time and especially dogs left outside while their owners are gone make perfect targets.
These are the dogs that often bark (which alerts the neighbors to them being alone and can also irritate neighbors). Dogs left outside consistently make easy marks for would-be thieves who may be “casing” or watching for dogs that would be easy to steal.
Leave your dog secured inside while you are gone to keep him safe.
Tools If The Unthinkable Happens
Microchip
Microchips are easy and will keep shelters are research companies from accepting a stolen dog or cat. Nowadays, microchip readers are also universal so that owners can be tracked down no matter what microchip company the pet owner chooses.
Your veterinary hospital will be happy to microchip your pet.
But, please, please, please register the microchip and keep it up to date when you move. There are thousands of microchips that go unregistered and an unregistered microchip is as good as not having one at all!
Tattoo
There are some places that will also tattoo your pet. Many show dogs are not only microchipped but additionally tattooed with their owner’s social security number so that the owner can easily be tracked down.
Tips for tattooing is NOT to tattoo the ear of the dog. As sick as it sounds, ears can be cut off and dogs can still be turned in for money or financial gain.
Those who tattoo their dogs usually use their social security number and have the tattoo put on the thigh of the dog where it will be easily seen and identified on exam.
GPS Collar
GPS collars can also give you information if your pet goes missing. You can track down the time the dog was taken and if the would-be thief is not astute he might not realize that the collar has a GPS locator.
Video Surveillance
Thanks to modern technology and the ability to mass-produce technology for the masses camera systems like the “Ring” are often now used both outside the home and inside the home to keep theft at bay.
As with any crime, make sure that your dog’s yard and his space is also under surveillance.
Criminals avoid video surveillance like the plague and sentencing and proof is much easier if you have the crime caught on film.
It is always best when your home and your equipment can help you avoid having crime or getting the police involved.
Neighborhood Watch
A neighborhood with a good and active neighborhood watch will keep many criminals at bay.
There are also lots of pets alliance groups that you can look into in your area. These groups will help keep your beloved pets safe and in their home.
Help Change Laws
Many people are afraid of the government taking away their rights and becoming involved in our lives. I for one, agree. However, I would like to see laws change, and thankfully they are slowly changing. Pets and animals are slowly evolving from “property” into sentient animals. A sentient animal is an animal that is capable of being that has interests and is aware of its environment. It feels hunger, heat, cold, and has desires and wants. It is an animal that is capable of feelings. Pets are not inanimate objects or property. Pets have feelings and shouldn’t be abused or tortured any more than humans should suffer the same fate.
Pets are not property, they are way more important than any motor vehicle that can easily be replaced. Property can be disposed of and abused at will. Police should be involved with animal cruelty and abuse because this is a predictive crime.
We need laws that keep our pets safe from abuse, if not just for the animal’s safety but also to identify human sociopaths and predators.
The law should swiftly deal with animal abuse and neglect with a stern hand. Empathy and kindness should be our goal when dealing with sentient animals. After all, they have feelings too.
Support legislation that gives our companion animals and other animals rights to be treated humanely.
Looking to get involved contact your local kennel club. Kennel clubs often know about what is going on in their area and can put you in contact with great people. Rescue groups can also be a wealth of information.
Be Careful What Non-profit You Support
Not all not for-profit or 501(c)(3) organizations are created equally. Not all animal welfare organizations or even humane society groups do what they say.
Some of these animal nonprofits are more like cults.
I remember when I was 18 and one very well-known animal rights organization was strongly opposed to showing dogs in conformation. At the time I was involved in the conformation world with my male Rottweiler. My intent was never to breed him, but to show the world his beauty and perfect physical conformation. This said animal rights group was going to prestigious conformation events and poisoning dogs… because they felt that the dogs lived abusive or sad lives.
I can say wholeheartedly, that some do. Some of these dogs are not much more than livestock being paraded around to win trophies so that their owners can charge more money for puppies. But, many of the dogs were like mine; well-loved family pets that wen home and lived happy and prosperous lives. I for one have NEVER bred one of my dogs no matter what title they have won. I enter into the dog show world only to compete alongside the best with my happy pets.
Do your research! If you are going to support an animal rights organization financially or otherwise make sure that you know the ins and outs of their ethics.
I am not one for putting anyone on blast but PETA is known for their extremist views and the killing of animals.
The truth is that dog theft is a big problem throughout the world. But there are simple steps that you can take to educate yourself about the act itself and why it is profitable and then ways that you can keep your dog from becoming a statistic!
