O!Ciel, Lizzy, and Sterling Silver Roses

One of my favorite extra chapters in Kuro is the Book of Murder side story, where each of the characters turn into characters from fairy tales. My most favorite part there is obviously Ciel and Lizzy's, which represented The Snow Queen (also my favorite fairy tale). It just fits them so much!

So I was rereading this chapter and noticed the panels below:

In the first one, we see Ciel seemingly giving someone a rose. At the present, we haven't seen any scene similar to this between O!Ciel and Lizzy, but since this is Lizzy's POV and she is talking about the protagonist, I'm assuming this is indeed a memory shared between them (or at least parallel of actual events that happened in their past).

O!Ciel's favorite flower, is coincidentally, sterling silver roses, as mentioned by Sebastian in Ch. 1.

Sterling silver roses are these lovely lavender or lilac-silver roses that represent nobility, elegance, and regality. Since I wanted to see if there would be any relation I could make between this flower and my favorite ship (the way I overthink about these two, really 😭 lol), I tried to look more into what these types of roses represent in a romantic sense.

And well— lavender-colored roses like the sterling silver rose represent love at first sight. They also "signify enchantment, adoration, wonder, and fascination. If you have a secret love, lavender roses can maintain a sense of mystery. The tone is also ideal for the first time you give your love interest flowers."

Giving lilac roses to your special someone, on the other hand, symbolizes your "subtle intentions for them in the future."

Going along with these concepts, and since we were never told of the reason yet why this type of rose was our earl's favorite, my assumption is that the silver sterling rose probably holds a special memory for him in the past. And as the only time we see him with a rose in the manga so far would be that panel from the special chapter (correct me if I'm wrong though), it could be assumed that this memory is something he shares with Lizzy from when they were little—O!Ciel giving her a sterling silver rose. It could be a hint that O!Ciel has liked our sweet Lizzy from the start, and possibly, has wished before that it was he would be betrothed to her instead of R!Ciel (who doesn't really seem that interested in her anyway, he's just happy and relieved she at least is cute and 'not scary'). He doesn't act on it however, as he knows she is never meant to be his.

One thing to note is that, while we have seen from his actions many times that he cares a lot about Lizzy, we are still yet to see O!Ciel actually talk about his true feelings for her. And I believe it's about time l we see just how he thinks of her, from his own POV. I expect that this is something we will finally get to see soon in this arc as one of the layers it touches are the conflicts between O!Ciel and Lizzy, and their relationship.

It's been shown at an earlier part of this arc that O!Ciel distances himself from people he cares about to protect them, and that he is afraid to accept the idea that he deserves love and happiness. I think bringing up this memory with her, and his sterling silver roses would be an emotional way for him to finally face these feelings, and give it a name. To acknowledge that Lizzy is someone that he loves, ever since, and someone he doesn't want to lose.

All of this for now are just my assumptions on what we may see once we finally get the focus back to O!Ciel and Lizzy, but it would be truly interesting to see it unfold, and also a beautiful way to see them acknowledge their feelings for each other when the time comes.

I finished writing fic and decided to share the beginning here. This is the only part in English.

“Can I hug you?” her whisper is lost among the dead around them. Her hands are instinctively still clutching the swords, unwilling to part with the imaginary safety. Her face is covered in blood. Her hair, barely grown out since college, is completely disheveled and dirty. Her lips, despite her strong body,  is trembling. Her eyes, still glowing with kindness and love, meet his. “Yes,” his whisper cuts the silence into pieces. His hands are the first to reach out to her, hesitantly grabbing the wet fabric of her dress. His face burrows into her shoulder, the hardness of her muscles against his cheek making him feel ridiculously calm. His hair is touchingly soft and smells musty when the pale girlish cheek touches it. His lips, unfortunately, are trembling too.

doing another re read of kuro and the amount of detail in these two panels alone is mind boggling

it’s Ciel’s 10th birthday and the day the Phantomhive family is murdered. we know this firstly because the narrator (Elizabeth) tells us, but also because we can see an advent calendar behind her with the 14th unopened.

advent calendars are popular among children who celebrate Christmas, building up excitement for weeks before the holiday. each door has a festive gift behind it; oftentimes candy or a small toy, and children open them as soon as they can. as someone who grew up with these, they were the first thing opened every morning without fail.

given Elizabeth hasn’t opened this door yet, either she’s showing major restraint or is preoccupied by something far more important. we see her sitting at a desk with embroidery tools visible, which leads us to the next panel…

her gift to Ciel is a hand embroidered handkerchief, a common and heartfelt gesture between lovers in the Victorian era. my guess is that she is mimicking what the older female figures in her life at the time (likely Angelina or Rachel) are doing with their partners. regardless of the why behind the gift, it’s clear how much she cares through her efforts.

the embroidery is flowery and intricate, symbolizing an innocent, childlike love, and the ‘cuteness’ she’s trying to maintain. on the contrary, there’s bandaids on her fingers, showing the pain she’s been through to complete the work, or maybe it’s from her fencing lessons. either way, her duality is on full display.

and she’s SO proud of herself, you can see it on her face. it’s amazing! yana really did an amazing job making an 11 year old girl complex.

please let her be happy 😭

This is a rly old art that has just been sitting in my drafts. I drew it bc I rly liked thinking of a dynamic of Liz being more masculine than Ciel and letting her take the reigns in their relationship (just in general not just romantically, also they’re kids to me so their betrothal rly isn’t something I actively think about it’s just there?), and it’s honestly funny how I drew this bc it’s so obvious what I was going for lmao.

Aside from that every time I saw this drawing in my drafts it made me laugh bc it has a shounen ai look to me?!?! And it’s even funnier bc Liz is a girl. Irdk how to describe it, it’s just the vibe all around and the pose makes it feel/look like what I would casually find on the cover of a shounen ai manga💀💀😭😭🗿👩🏽‍🦯which is such a self report on my part but there’s rly no other way for me to explain it.

Anyways. Who knows how old this rly is but I feel like it’s at least two yrs old, which is why it looks and feels so different from my current works.

I’ve never read the manga but the constant spoilers and reveals I’ve gotten over the years have been crazy, and I honestly can see where Liz is coming from but at the same time I dislike how quick she was to turn on OCiel! Like girllll, be so fr rn, you’ve known him since forever but you decide to side with the mf that came outta nowhere and that you’ve only known for FIVE SECS?!?💀😭🙏🏽

Don’t even get me started on Undertaker, his ass being messy with Ciel. From what I’ve seen/heard of him (theories) his actions are very contradictory, bc how are you gonna go around reviving a kid and instigating a power struggle amongst them. Not to mention that by helping one, you acknowledge that harm will inevitably come for the other. Like HUH?!? Please be so serious rn. Like I honestly could care less if his backstory and involvement with Ciel’s family had a wholesome/tragic history bc no amount of defending can change my opinion of him being wrong for doing my boy Ciel like that. He did him so dirty AND FOR WHAT?!?🗣️🗣️🗣️

Okay, so I tried made a list of songs which I think would be perfect for them. ♫ These songs are based from both of their POVs, though it may lean more towards Lizzy's.

Each song is arranged according to how O!Ciel and Lizzy's dynamics progressed through the manga. I also included parts of the song lyrics that highlight their relationship well, or those that resonate with important parts in their story. The first few songs are kinda meh but the last ones are sure to hurt like crazy! xD This playlist has 26 songs btw, so prepare your tissues and cry with me!

Who does she really love? Somehow, she already knows the answer, and it is causing her anguish over her supposed love. *This song could be interpreted to be directed to both the twins, as Lizzy thought all this time that she was loving one person only.

— O!Ciel's lies, mistakes and choices have finally come to haunt him. He realizes this as soon as his eyes met his twin brother's. And most of all, he finally discovers the reason why Lizzy left.

— The sudden appearance of R!Ciel turns his world upside down. Remaining silent with a darkened expression on his face, a disheartened, regretful earl reminisces his memories with Lizzy

You know what I originally thought Black Butler was about. I thought it was about a demon butler (Sebastian) where each episode he has a new master with a new personality and needs that he has to adapt and adjust too to fit the perfect butler aesthetic. I thought this because before I watch the anime I saw pictures of Sebastian working for Ciel. Him working with that King and his little brother from Ep. 16. Then I fucking thought that Claude was Sebastian and he was working with Alois.

To me that concept sounds much cooler to me, and maybe could give more bg on Sebastian before he worked for Ciel.
