A tale of two Evies
or what if @novashelby 's Evelyn Shelby and Eva existed in the same universe
cw: mentions of war, refrenced child abuse, absent mother
Eva has always had a soft spot for children.
Whether it was the children in Altamira, the ones in Veracruz or the ones she met in the war. The ones who followed the army to be with their fathers and mothers who gave their all for the revolution or simply had nowhere else to go.
Polly trusts her with the Shelby children, Evelyn and Finn.
Finn who worships the ground she walks just like Oviedo ---who used to follow her like a puppy until their camps were attacked and died in Diosdado's arms--- and Evie who shares her name and an insatiable curiosity to make even a saint lose their patience.
“If you keep your plan for tomorrow you will lose your appendix, and your father will be very disappointed in you.” Eva says from the kitchen as Finn vehemently refused to participate in his niece’s scheme tomorrow.
Evie is terrible at math, had the same problem one of the girls at school had where it was just impossible for the nuns to teach her, so they just gave up. Eva is no quitter and if she could teach orphaned children to read and write in war torn Chihuaha, she could have Evelyn Shelby at least learn the basics until her father has enough money and influence to let her be a lady of leisure.
Just needed the time, patience and right set of things to help her. Oviedo learned times tables through the annoying song Eva’s governess taught her, Eva learned math with an abacus and using her infinite number of toy and other things in the nursery she shared with her cousins in Altamira. Her aunt Livia, taking the role of mother after Eva’s mother realized for the fourth time in her life that she never wanted kids, had rewarded every milestone she reached no matter how small.
Besides, Eva knew exactly what she would be tested on and even if ten-year-old Evelyn failed, she wouldn’t fail so badly. Or worse lose a fucking organ.
And so, it began.
Evelyn Shelby joins the Shelbys who found themselves embracing the lonely witch with tales of a far-off land and an endless supply of affection and gifts. Spellbound, one might say.
Spring becomes summer and summer becomes fall. Evie and Finn become regular fixtures in her life to Grace’s envy. Grace who is forbidden by Polly from getting close to the children because the witches know better than to trust someone who smells too strongly of death.
“You smell like daddy’s pillows.” Evie points out when she hugs her in greeting after being allowed to skip school as long as she stayed with her while Polly ran her errands.
So that had been who Polly wanted the satchel of sleeping scents for.
Thomas Shelby who not only eye fucks her every morning she passes by his window but sleeps over the satchel with Eva’s anise and lavender to ease his nightmares.
No wonder Grace felt so threatened by Eva even if the witch and the devil have never even spoken to each other.
“It’s a scent to keep nightmares away, would you like one, mi niña?” the witch smiles and dismisses the little girl’s pangs of jealousy regarding her father.
Good thing Eva and Tommy were nothing but strangers even with Polly and her uncle trying their hardest to match them up.
And yet when she and Evie walk down Garrison Lane, she hears three gunshots and sees Shelby being shot near the heart. As much as the witch tries to shake off the vision, the girl notices the sudden fear and worry in her grown up friend and sets off the chain of events that leads to the last thing either adult in her life wanted.
It began with those gifts Polly had foreseen he’d need ---to make his intentions clear from that night after he survived the ambush Grace had stupidly helped Campbell orchestrate--- and ended with him taking her to the Derby and them becoming engaged less than a week later. Eva had kept him at bay the entire winter and the spring after only for June to come and have the strength of their feelings for each other breakdown each of her walls.
Now he snuck away while his daughter was asleep in his bed to be in hers and leave before Evie noticed he was gone. Strangely, the little girl has not noticed their courtship occurring under her nose and now would learn she and her father will be eloping in about two weeks.
“Do you think she’ll hate me?” Eva asks, fearing how the sting of this betrayal will hurt Evie. She adores her namesake and her namesake adores her, but its one thing being her friend and another thing becoming her mother before she’s even had the time to tell her they were courting.
“Never, she adores you.” Tommy assures her with a sweet sounding lie.
As if Evie will refuse to see her as anything else than the wicked witch stealing her father’s love from her.
Evie has never liked the idea of someone else in their lives.
They wouldn’t fit in his bed, for a start, she would be like those evil stepmothers in stories and send her far away where people will hurt her like that woman did.
Eva was like a fairy godmother, but if the fairy was also a witch who liked the color black and smelled like the little bag of sweet-smelling stuff her dad keeps under their pillows.
Mrs. Changretta, who Polly and Eva had enlisted to help her pass the school year, said Eva and her son could suit if Eva had no serious offer still. Evie didn’t know him and while she supposed Eva would want a husband, maybe Eva wanted someone who lived in Birmingham and not in America.
“So, you want her to stay too?” her dad asked as she told him about what the former schoolteacher and Aunt Pol talked about while Evie practiced her mathematics since Eva was gone for the day.
“Yeah,” Evie admitted and didn’t like that smile her dad seemed to get when they talked about or saw Eva now.
Finn had said his brother was in love with Eva and she was going to become her stepmother because Polly is never wrong when it comes to romance or so John and Arthur said.
Then she saw it, what everyone had already known since last December when he went alone to her house with pink flowers and a box of cards Eva doesn’t let her open.
She liked Eva, she was not like Grace or even Lizzie and they were friends, strange some kids thought because Eva was a grown-up and Evie a kid. Even the nuns at school liked Eva and they barely liked Evie’s family.
But her dad and Eva said they were just friends, and she believed them until now that she knows that smile her dad has on his face is because he is thinking about Eva.
“Do you like her, daddy?” Evie asks the question she’s been dreading since May.
He pauses, unsure of how to answer. As if wondering if he can tell the truth or lie to her face. “Yes, very much. She is lovely and loves you more than you might even love her.”
Love. Three times if you count lovely.
Evie asks her father again, a knot in her throat because she knows now why Eva and her father were busy today, they had been together! “Do you love her?”
“Yes. I do.”
Evie doesn’t know why she hates it so much. She likes Eva, she knows Eva wouldn’t be an evil witch stepmother, but even the idea of her being with her dad made Evie hate it so much.
“I hate her.” It hurts more because she loved Eva like she loved Aunt Ada and even Aunt Polly. That traitor had been her friend and now she would take her dad away from her and give him babies he would love more than Evie and Evie would be sent back to that woman.
Evelyn Shelby is shouting at Eva’s door and having to be held back by her father who tries to explain things Evie doesn’t want to here.
“Bad luck for the groom to see the bride in her wedding dress, Tommy.” It’s not Eva who opens the door, but her friend, Linda, who demands Tommy not come in with a laugh.
It is much worse than Evelyn had thought.
A wedding? Their wedding?!
Was anyone going to tell her about it? Why didn’t she know about it?
“How could you do this to me, you were my friend!” the ten-year-old girl shouts at the witch wearing a wedding dress and Aunt Esme’s veil as the women in the neighborhood stopped on their tracks.
So, everyone was in on it? Everyone knew it except Evie.
“Sweetheart, we can explain.” The witch says and looks at her father who had come into the house anyways.
The three sit there where everyone had been preparing for a wedding no one had considered telling Evie about. She can recognize the suit jacket as her father’s, and Linda’s neat handwriting on the list of people who were invited and even worse, a picture of Eva and her dad kissing at the Derby they went last week. They had gone with them to Epsom, to celebrate how great things were going now that Billy Kimber was gone. Never did Evie think that her dad would be taking them so he could propose to Eva.
“How long have you been seeing him behind my back?” Evie asks the woman still in her wedding dress and being forced to sit apart from them because Evie refuses to let her be near her.
“We wanted to tell you, sweetheart, believe me, we were going to tell you we were seeing each other since the Derby, but things changed. I am sorry you had to find out this way.” Eva doesn’t like lying, says the truth hurts but it’s still better than lying. “I hope you can forgive us for it.”
“Maybe I don’t want to. Maybe I don’t want you to take my daddy away from me!” Evie refused to let it happen, her dad was hers and hers alone.
“Evie, she’s not taking me from you. As a matter of fact, Eva will come live with us and be the mother you deserve to have.” Tommy tries to take her face in his hands to get her to understand them, but his daughter refuses to even look at him. “It would break my heart if she left. It would break yours too, I know.”
“I don’t care.” The girl lies. She would miss her, Finn too and her dad never looked as happy as he did since they became friends and sweethearts behind her back.
“They will kill her if she leaves England.” He says as seriously as he had told her to stay in the patch with Esme’s family that day he came back with a bandage over his chest. “I can’t let that happen, and neither could you.”
Because he saved her that day and even if everyone says he’s a bad man, he still the man who saved her and made her a Shelby.
And even if Evie hates it, she must let it happen because even if she really hates Eva right now, she doesn’t want her to die.
“Fine, but we aren’t friends anymore and I won’t ever call her my mother.” The girl crossed her arms and resigned herself to her fate.
“I will take what I can get.” Eva tells her father and agrees to Evie’s terms. “I promise I won’t ever become your wicked stepmother, and I won’t ever make you call me mother.”
They keep their word; Evie isn’t forced to be nice to her ---even when they take her to Brighton and London with them on their honeymoon--- and Eva never becomes her evil stepmother even when 1922 rolls around and comes with the news that Eva is having a baby.
And yet, when May Carleton shows up looking for her father at the betting shop, Evie introduces a very pregnant Eva as her mother because there is only one other person Evelyn Shelby can share her father with and that is Eva Shelby.

Minako: *walking to look for Ziro* Why did he fight his own brother?
Minako: Is it because of me- *flinches when she hears the sound of church bells*
Meraki: What’s going on?!
???: Minako Sakamaki.
Nemesis: *appears above Minako with a stoic look*
Minako: *froze as she steps back* It’s you…. The God of Punishment….
Nemesis: I see you have remembered me. And yet even in your 7th life you still make reckless decisions…. Including harming the spirit saintness.
Meraki: Oi she felt bad and regretted it! She suffered enough consequences alrighty!
Nemesis: Yet she was left with a slap on a wrist.
Minako; That’s one weak way to describe my consequences- AH! *gets chained down as she is forced to bow to nemesis*
Nemesis: Silent. For I have already decided the rightful punishment for your actions.
Minako: Wait- wait please!
Livia: Hey! What are you doing!?
Jamil: What's going on!? Let her go!
Cyrin: *Summons his polearm, glaring at Nemesis*

THIS DAY IN GAY HISTORY
based on: The White Crane Institute's 'Gay Wisdom', Gay Birthdays, Gay For Today, Famous GLBT, glbt-Gay Encylopedia, Today in Gay History, Wikipedia, and more … November 16
42 BC – Tiberius, Roman emperor, born (d.37 AD); second Roman Emperor, from the death of Augustus in CE 14 until his own death in 37 AD. Tiberius was by birth a Claudian, son of Tiberius Claudius Nero and Livia Drusilla. His mother divorced his father and was remarried to Octavian Augustus in 39 BC. Tiberius would later marry Augustus' daughter Julia the Elder (from an earlier marriage) and even later be adopted by Augustus and by this act he became a Julian. The subsequent emperors after Tiberius would continue this blended dynasty of both families for the next forty years; historians have named it the Julio-Claudian dynasty.
Tiberius was the predecessor to Caligula and he was certainly the appropriate curtain-raiser. His sexual excesses were widely known, especially when he "retired" to Capri, governing Rome via correspondence, and becoming the patron saint of that future gay mecca. Suetonius reported that Tiberius trained young boys, whom he called his "minnows," to stay between his legs while he was swimming so they could lick and nibble him until he came. Suetonius reports that Tiberius can be credited with the "daisy chain" or spintriae - a conga line of people joined front and back in sexual congress.
1502 – Sandro Botticelli (c.1445- 1510) is accused of sodomy but the charges were dropped. The summary of the charge reads: "Botticelli keeps a boy." Botticelli was an Italian painter of the Early Renaissance. He belonged to the Florentine School under the patronage of Lorenzo de Medici. Botticelli’s posthumous reputation suffered until the late 19th century; since then, his work has been seen to represent the linear grace of Early Renaissance painting.
1942 – Barton Lidice Beneš, born in Hackensack, New Jersey (d.2012), was an artist who lived and worked in New York City. He studied at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York and Beaux-Arts, Avignon, France.
His father, the son of Czech immigrants gave him his middle name in memory of Lidice, the Czech town destroyed by the Nazis that year. He grew up in Queens with Czech-born grandparents, who instilled in him a dedication to the Roman Catholic traditions of reliquaries and memorials to the dead.
Barton Beneš' art incorporated shadow boxes filled with bits and pieces that revealed the myths and ironies of life. The fragments in Beneš' work often involved famous people and events, from a piece of Elizabeth Taylor's shoe to a crumb from the wedding cake of the Prince of Wales. His travelling exhibition series about AIDS, "Lethal Weapons," was the focus of an independent documentary film released in 1997. "Lethal Weapons" consisted of 30 vessels such as a water pistol, an atomizer, and hollow darts, all filled with the artist's or other people's HIV-infected blood.
Another work, "Brenda," was a wall relief carpeted with red AIDS-awareness ribbons and slathered with a coat of gray paste made from the cremated remains of a woman who had died of AIDS. "I absolutely hate those [AIDS] ribbons," he said, contending that wearing them did nothing more than assuage people's consciences.
Although galleries and museums refused to show this work, they were displayed without incident at the North Dakota Museum of Art in 1993. Beneš did not forget the courage and commitment to art of this prairie institution. When he died he left instructions to be cremated and have his remains placed in a pillowcase on his bed. The bed was the central part Beneš last completed and most personal work, his 850-square-foot home in Greenwich Village containing thousands of objects including masks and religious relics and the mementoes and remains of his loved ones. This enormous piece with its thousands of contents will be moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota, where they will be exhibited in a replica of the apartment
Among the museums that have acquired his works are the Chicago Art Institute, the National Museum of American Art, the National Gallery of Australia, and most importantly the North Dakota Museum of Art.
Scott Wittman (L) with Marc Shaiman
1955 – Born: Lyricist and director Scott Wittman, who, with composer Marc Shaiman, his partner in life and collaborator in theater, film, and television projects, has a long list of credits in the entertainment industry. Their work on the musical version of John Waters' Hairspray earned Tony and Grammy awards in 2003.
Both Shaiman and Wittman grew up in the vicinity of New York City, the former in Scotch Plains, New Jersey, and the latter in Nyack, New York. Both were fascinated with musical theater from an early age and dreamed of careers on Broadway. Shaiman played piano with local community theater groups from the time that he was twelve, and Wittman apprenticed in summer stock in his hometown. Such was their love for the stage that they both cut high school classes to travel into New York for matinees.
Wittman attended Emerson College in Boston but left after two years to pursue a career as a writer and director in musical theater in New York. In the city's East Village he crossed paths with Shaiman, who had quit high school at sixteen to join the New York musical scene. Wittman was directing a show at a club in Greenwich Village when Shaiman came in and started playing the piano. Wittman promptly hired him. They subsequently fell in love and have been a couple since 1979.
The two soon began collaborating professionally, writing songs that Shaiman describes as "full of anarchy and joy."
Since 1997 Shaiman and Wittman have contributed and directed music for the Academy Awards presentation show. At the same time Wittman, who humorously calls himself "a great diva wrangler," has directed concerts. In addition to working with Bette Midler, he has had a long association with Patti LuPone and has worked with Christine Ebersole, Raquel Welch, Dame Edna Everage (Barry Humphries), and Lypsinka among many others.
Shaiman and Wittman's greatest triumph thus far is Hairspray, an adaptation of the 1988 John Waters movie for the musical stage. Shaiman and Wittman wrote the music, and Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan the book for the play.
The show dominated the 2003 Tony Awards, winning eight, including best musical and best score. At the end of their acceptance speeches Shaiman declared to Wittman, "I love you, and I'd like to spend the rest of my life with you." The couple then embraced and shared a long and tender kiss. News outlets around the world took note of this affecting moment.
1964 – Waheed Alli, Baron Alli is a British multimillionaire media entrepreneur and politician. He was co-founder and managing director of Planet 24, a TV production company, and managing director at Carlton Television Productions. He was, until November 2012, chairman of ASOS.com. He is the chairman of Silvergate Media, which purchased two of the media rights previously held by Chorion Ltd, where Alli was former chairman. He is a Labour life peer and is described as one of only a few openly gay Muslim politicians in the world.
In British political terms he is considered Asian, though both of his parents are from the Caribbean. His mother, a nurse, is from Trinidad, and his estranged father, a mechanic, is from British Guiana (now Guyana). His mother was Hindu and his father Muslim; he has two brothers, one of each faith. He was named one of the 20 most important Asians in British media in 2005. At the same time, he maintains ties with his Caribbean roots, both with other British-Guyanese politicians such as Valerie Amos and Trevor Phillips, and with President Bharrat Jagdeo.
Alli joined the Labour Party at the persuasion of his neighbour Emily Thornberry, to whom he remains close. He is also close to Anji Hunter, Director of Government Relations in Tony Blair's first government. Prime Minister Blair used him for years as a means to help him reach out to a younger generation (aka "yoof culture"), and as such he is considered one of "Tony's Cronies". He was made a life peer as Baron Alli, of Norbury in the London Borough of Croydon, on 18 July 1998 at the age of 34, becoming the youngest and the first openly gay peer in Parliament. He sits on the Labour benches in the House of Lords. The BBC summarised his appointment as "the antithesis of the stereotypical 'establishment' peer – young, Asian and from the world of media and entertainment".
Alli has used his political position to argue for gay rights. He spearheaded the campaign to repeal Section 28. He advocated lowering the age of consent for homosexuals from 18 to 16, equal to heterosexuals; this eventually became law as the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 2000. It was during a heated exchange with conservative opponents, led by Baroness Young, that he informed his fellow peers that he was gay. In April 1999, he said in a speech, "I have never been confused about my sexuality. I have been confused about the way I am treated as a result of it. The only confusion lies in the prejudice shown, some of it tonight [i.e. in the House], and much of it enshrined in the law."
In 2009, he spearheaded an effort to repeal clauses in the Civil Partnership Act 2004 which prohibited religious institutions from conducting the ceremonies on their premises. This campaign culminated in a bipartisan amendment, which became part of the Equality Act 2010.
2007 – Breakfast With Scot - In 2006, straight Canadian actor Tom Cavanagh began filming Breakfast with Scot, in which he plays a gay retired hockey player who becomes an adoptive father to a young boy. The film, released on this day in 2007, drew attention as the first gay-themed film ever to win approval from a major league sports franchise to use its real name and logo; Cavanagh's character formerly played for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

re: ask game
felix ratvinstill, the patron saint of rodents
because I would love to know any and all behind the scenes thoughts
of course! happy to yap about the rats <3
(i have an embarrassing about of lore about these rats)
i already mentioned a few things in these replies:
gaul's beef w/ felix & where the rat obsession started
clemmie is tired of felix's rat shenanigans
reference to livia worshipping taylor swift
max making sure the rat parade was not broadcast
expanding on those:
felix's rat obsession started shortly after his parents' deaths as a coping mechanism that no one addressed until it was too late & felix was irrevocably attached
it was still war time so there were a lot of rats around on the streets and felix had somehow managed to capture one (aesop) to keep as a pet turned support animal
max (president) was pretty concerned about the whole thing, but between the grief of losing family members and the ongoing war, he basically went 'kids will be kids ig' and let felix be
felix originally calling aesop 'mr rat' and would read him some stories (aesop's fables) to help him go to sleep bc that's what his parents would do to help him sleep when he was younger
aesop was named as such because he went 'storybooks' -> 'rat that helps me sleep' -> 'perfect name :D'
max (president) did have gaul 'check' aesop (without felix's knowledge) once it was brought to his attention that felix was letting aesop sleep in his bed bc he did not want felix to be killed off by a potentially diseased rat
(is aesop the same rat that felix originally caught? maybe. maybe not. gaul certainly isn't saying whether she modified aesop or gave a mutt replacement. maybe the rat she melted on their field trip as nine-year-olds was the original aesop. again, gaul certainly isn't going to say anything one way or the other)
anyway, that's how all of felix's rats live past 3-4 years 🐀
felix stopped collecting rats when the war ended (eight-years-old) because max (president) was able to convince him that it would be too much of a hassle to have more rats once transitioned from homeschooling to a school with others. max was not, however, able to convince felix to get rid of any of the rats (his original intent).
when felix was younger, i like to think he had one of those little red wagons to bring all his rats along everywhere. by the time he reaches the academy, he just carries them in his pockets and/or lets them follow him on their own.
asclepius is his medic rat (named after the god of medicine) and the first rat that clemensia was introduced to. she was severely weirded out, but came around after an asclepius alerted a teacher when she was having an allergic reaction (strawberry allergy headcanon from medea)
yes, felix did make clemmie thank asclepius for quote "saving her life", which she did do. her thoughts on felix's rats after that event were basically 'well, i guess this is a thing.....this is fine....' which felix took to mean that she was an ally against rat haters (livia)
max (rat) was the last (36th) felix had adopted. it was just a few months before the end, and he quickly became felix's support rat. max (president) was not present enough in felix's life to realize felix had named after him under nearly a year later.
max (president) knew about albanus (rat) but was fine with it because he thought felix was just honoring a dead family member. max (president) side eyes felix's interactions wtih max the rat all the time. marius and gnaeus are just grateful that no rats are named after them.
side note: originally, this fic was just supposed to be felix's perspective, but as i was writing, felix's pov sounded too 'rational' bc of how much he was coping, so dill's pov was added in for contrast (and get an outside view of the rat-related insanity)
the rat parade happens at heavensbee hall. the people in attendance were the mentors and tributes (and, of course, felix's rats). max (president) did not attend. gaul was not invited. livia was also not invited, but she showed up because she was insulted that facet was given a personalized invite.
felix wanted it to be bigger, but that was the compromise that max (president) was able to negotiate felix into agreeing to. there were cameras that felix insisted on being there with the intent to broadcast the event, but none were actually recording.
max (president) made sure that none of them were on and told felix after the fact that they had 'malfunctioned' so the rat parade 'unfortunately' was not shared. felix is very disappointed by this and has to be comforted by max (rat) when he can't host a second rat parade to make up for it.
no one ever believes reaper and dill when they go back home and tell others about the rats. eventually, they just fudge the story to stop people from pressing them for the "real" story (aka "the mentors were convinced by the tributes' humanity from interacting with them and realizing how bad things were in the districts & dill's mentor was able to use nepotism to stop the games" - basically the same concept minus the rats)
i didn't have any solid ideas after that, but i like to think that felix visits dill in d11 sometime in the future and she has to awkwardly explain to her family that 'this is felix ravinstill, yes, that ravinstill family, yes, these rats are normal and please don't say anything against it to his face, please'.
and there you have it! 🐀🐀🐀
thanks for the ask abyssal! :D

On 30 Janaury, 2011, 6-year-olds Alessia and Livia Schepp vanished from Saint-Sulpice, a suburb of Lausanne in the canton of Vaud, Switzerland. They had been picked up by their father, Matthias Schepp, on 28 January, to spend the weekend with him. Matthias and the girls’ mother, Irina, were separated, with Irina having main custody.
The girls had been expected to return home on 30 Janaury. However, they never arrived. Irina contacted police to report her daughters missing. Detectives discovered that Matthias had driven to France with Alessia and Livia where he had withdrawn money. Matthias then boarded a ferry to Italy. Once here, he took his own life by throwing himself in front of a train.
The last time that the girls were ever seen was on 30 Janaury. Detectives couldn’t figure out whether he had taken the girls to Italy with him. Shortly before taking his own life, Matthias had sent Irina a cryptic postcard which read that the girls were “resting in peace.”

he got mad as hellllll. +500 to insanity meter instantaneously he thought he lost the place he found once more to some garlean bullshit again and after he buried noraxia. if he didn't have the hope that arenvald was alive & cid hadn't regained his memories & alphinaud hadn't busted in he would've probably eventually just gone on a suicide mission alone to kill gaius and livia which is WHYYY he was so complacent re: this random kid coming in and making a bunch of questionable decisions. not his proudest moment. uhh the time he spent at the church of saint adama landama is also longer than in the actual arr msq. he helped bury the bodies and then just kind of joined bonkedcid in being a Weird Guy Helping Out (bumming) At The Church stewing in his own I Should Just Go Kill Them. you'd find him in good or bad weather at odd hours sitting or sleeping near the big dead goobbue and he also spent a lot of that time wandering around in eastern thanalan doing weird shit
#(unspecified)#THANK YOUUU FOR QUASTION we never get to talk about this ingame again..#in short he reverted back to dead man walking mode#his abandoned dog rizz

Fact or Fiction: Silent Hope's nature as a fable
Seven Heroes, Seven Countries: Where do the protagonists come from?
Monsters: Creatures from another world or the reincarnated spirits of the dead?
Primitivus, Proto-Dragon of Void: A potential answer to Livia and Radea

So, what the heck is Eliza?
Let me tell you!
(Spoilers for RF5 and slight spoilers for my upcoming fic, Who Remembers a God, but I’ve been sitting on this for a while and I wanna share it. Also I use it/its pronouns for Eliza, but I figure it is fine with any pronouns)
As we know from RF4, Saint Eliza in that game is a mailbox that gained sentience possibly because of the power of the Sharance Tree. It’s not stated who built it, but my theory is that it was Ventuswill, which I will elaborate on in a bit.
In RF5, it’s not explained why Eliza can talk to the MC or what its purpose is beyond being a convenient gameplay mechanic to improve the town. However, we do know that it has a familiar relationship with Livia, who it calls Livvy. And we know she’s the Divine Dragon of Light, Lumenevia.
My headcanon is that all of the Divine Dragons are capable of building divine simulacra - sentient constructs that can perform miracles given certain conditions. These simulacra allow the Divine Dragons to more easily benefit the areas they watch over by drawing upon the positive runes generated by the land/people they’re in charge of, rather than solely their own powers. Given the lore we learn about gods because of Lucas’ backstory, we know that miracles are specifically created through the coalescence of positive runes. True gods like Lucas naturally emit positive runes at a fairy steady rate, but happiness increases the output.
Do you see where I’m going here yet?
As the MC, players create positive runes not through divine nature, but hard-won acts of service. RF4 calls positive runes “Princess/Prince Points.” RF5 calls them “SEED Points.” The point system is how Saint Eliza quantifies the positive runes that the MC generates in their daily tasks. Being an Earthmate, they are allowed a similar amount of authority as the Divine Dragons in their ability to decide what miracles should be performed with the accumulated positive runes. (Yes, I know Dolce can hear Eliza too, but she’s not allowed access to the system because she doesn’t have the Divine Dragons’ or Mother Earth’s blessing. I imagine Dragon Priests’ could be granted permission, but that’s an entire different conversation about religion instead of magic systems).
Unlike true gods who have to be careful about how many positive runes they emit because of the dangers of attracting too many negative runes to themselves, the positive runes collected by Saint Eliza is simply a system of rerouting what was already present in the area. The MC’s actions to generate those runes requires hard work, and usually their fair share of bad luck. Consider for example that the MC can get points for banishing monsters — every time the MC is injured, that’s the result of negative runes, a natural consequence. Rather than allowing the benefit to stay out in the wild (keeping monsters away from that area for a longer period of time), the runes are moved into town and manipulated to cause specific improvements. Through the Divine Dragons or the MC’s direction, Eliza performs miracles.
And so, this is why Eliza is a Saint.
#rune factory#rune factory 4#rune factory 5#rf5 spoilers#long post#rf5 Saint Eliza#It’s literally in its name what Eliza is#Eliza being a Saint is not just a joke#I am kind of smug about ending this like a bad pun though#darkacey writes#who remembers a god#fandom meta

Late Celebration
Livia: *Looks around curiously, taking in all the Elemental Spirit decorations* Wow...
Leona: *Walks beside her through the kingdom, beastmen passing by excitedly chatting* We're almost there..
Kalim: WOW! What's all the decorations for!?
Azul: Clearly for the Spirit Fairies..but why is the Afterglow Savanna celebrating..
???: Many, many years ago a Spirit Saintess saved the First King and since then we raise our hands in celebration on the Spirit Saint or Spirit Saintess' birthday as thanks to him or her
Falena: *Kneels down in front of Livia with his wife and Cheka, bowing their heads to her* We greet the Spirit Saintess of Twisted Wonderland, forgive us for being...so very late to celebrating you..
Livia: *Stares at them feeling shy and slightly confused, stepping closer to Leona* I-It's okay..I don't mind,
Livia: A-And please stand up...
Falena: *Rises to his feet, smiling* Happy Very Late Birthday, Saintess Livia, please enjoy the festival...
Amara: We always start the festival off with the Saintess herself, showing us an element she picks
Livia: *Walks to the stage, looking slightly nervous*
Leona: *Nods to her, smiling* You got this..
Livia: *Holds her hand up* Tsunami! Ripple!!
Tsunami and Ripple: *Appears in the air, creating a large body of water in the sky*
Livia: *Leaps up, swimming through the water, smiling as she did a twirl in the water*
Livia: *Holds her hands out, the water forming into large lions, running through the air*
Leona: *Claps with the crowd, grinning widely as Livia came down*
Livia: *Perks up, the flowers underneath her feet lifting into the air, spinning around*
Livia: *Laughs, sitting down, a wide smile on her face*
Falena: Ah, so the rumors are true, she absolutely adores flowers!
Amara: That is a relief...
Cheka: *Beams as the flower passed overhead*
Falena: LET THE CELEBRATION OFFICIALLY BEGIN!!!
Kalim: Yeah! Let's go join Liv, we can sit together guys!
Azul: *SIghs* Very well..for Livia's special day..
Epel: Let's go!
Vil: Can't let have Potato Cub have all the fun
Trey: *Laughs* Agreed!
Riddle: *Smiles* Then what are we waiting for? Let's have fun!
~~~~~
Livia: *Laughs, dancing in the middle, wearing the Afterglow Savanna outfit given to her, her hair up in pigtails with a single braid, two braids hanging on either side of her head*
Falena: *Smiles, standing in the middle with her as people held hands moving in a circle around them*
Riddle: *Laughs with the others, holding Trey and Vil's hands, moving in a circle with everyone*
Livia: *Smiles wide, her eyes sparkling as Falena lifted her up, one hand holding hers as he moved around balancing her on his shoulder*
~~~~~
Livia: *Smiles wide, waving to everyone, sitting in the carriage specially made for her*
Leona: *Smiles, sitting with Livia, alongside the others*
Kalim: This is so cool! They take this seriously!
Vil: Indeed, seems like all of Twisted Wonderland celebrates Livia's birth, she is a very important person after all due to being the only Saintess as of right now
Azul: *Chuckles* How lucky are we to know someone more famous than Malleus Draconia
Trey: Very lucky!
Livia: *Smiles, gently tossing candy to people, her eyes brightening at the sight of everyone's smiles*
~~~~~
Kalim: *Holds his hand out* Come on, Liv!
Leona: Little Hunter, they have your favorite! Fruit!
Livia: *Beams, laughing as her friends surrounded her*
Vil: *Places a rose crown on her head, smiling*
Livia: *Smiles, looking at Falena and his people doing a traditional dance* WOW!
Leona: Wanna join them?
Livia: Oh can I show them a traditional dance from my people!
Amara: *Smiles coming over* Of course! We would love to see the dance you hold so dearly, Saintess!
~~~~~
Livia: *Beams, teaching people the Fae Jaguar traditional dance*
Falena and Livia: *Grabs each others hand, spinning quickly in a circle then holding a hand out*
Kalim: *Laughs, dancing with Riddle and Azul*
Livia: *Beams, lifting her hands into the air in a waving motion then twirls with Falena switching spots*
Leona: *Chuckles, placing his hands on Livia's waist, spinning around then setting her down*
Livia: *Beams, twirling away, laughing*
~~~~~
Livia: *Waves to people in her carriage taking her to the Kingscholar Residence*
Kalim: Today was so fun!!
Azul: I'm tired out, never before had I had so much fun!
Vil: *Laughs, a hand on his chest* It was adoring! The fruit, the decorations, the games!
Riddle: Look, she's asleep...
Livia: *Smiles, fast asleep in her seat, her head resting on her arms*
Leona: *Pulls Livia close, leaning her against him* Tuckered herself out
Trey: Indeed, she had the most fun, came right out of her shell the moment she rode on the Spinning Flowers
Vil: It's good that she enjoyed today, otherwise I'd have taken her back immediately
Riddle: Agreed!
Azul: *Chuckles, putting his vest over Livia*
