"shit..."
you mumble to yourself, zipping up your handbag as you watch the liverpool game end.
you had taken one glance at trent, and you knew that he was absolutely heartbroken.
you wave at him, getting up to your feet to quickly get out of the stadium down into the parking garage.
your fiancé's team, liverpool had just lost one of the most important matches of the season, and you could only guess how horrible he and his team were feeling right now.
you bid farewell to the girlfriends and wives of the other players, knowing they weren't feeling their best either.
entering the parking garage, you fish your keys out of your bag, unlocking your car. you sigh as you step behind the wheel, shutting your door with slight frustration.
after sitting in silence for a moment, you look down at your phone when you receive a text.
"I'll meet you at home, love."
"gonna cool off a little first.."
you knew of your fiancé's need of wanting to be alone when upset. already with him for years, you had gotten familiar of the ways he'd try to calm down and find relief.
you send him a quick reply, starting your car and start driving away from the stadium.
It's only a half an hour later after you're home, and you hear the front door of your home open.
you jump up from the couch, running up to your visibly defeated looking fiancé.
"baby?.."
you call out, making eye contact with him as he drops his training bag, containing his match necessities. onto the floor.
"hi babe.."
you step closer to him, wrapping your arms around his neck, pulling him in to kiss his plump lips.
"you okay?"
you ask when pulling back, running a soothing hand up and down his muscular back.
"I'll be fine, eventually..
your heart aches at the dissatisfaction in his voice, and you pull him further into the home.
"why don't you go upstairs and take a shower. wash away some of the stress, 'kay?"
trent can only nod in reply, his bigger hands reach up to cup your jaw, and he presses a firm kiss on your cheekbone.
you soak in the touch, a pout forming on your lips when he leaves to take a shower.
you sigh, grabbing his training bag, sorting his laundry in the bins. knowing you'd rather do anything than nag at him for forgetting to sort out his bag today.
you wait for him in bed, changed and dressed into your loungewear. full face of makeup cleaned off , even after the upmost care you took of doing it before driving up to the stadium, only hours earlier.
the mood dip was absolutely insane, going from leaving the house happy, your favorite music blasting from your car speakers, to driving home in silence, with worry gnawing at you.
"honey?" you say, eyes on your fiancé as he steps out of the bathroom. beige towel hanging low on his hips, chest and his curls wet.
you push your immediate inappropriate thoughts to the back of your mind. after such a loss, you'd doubt he was in the mood anything remotely close being sexually intimate.
"I'm here, lovie.."
he mutters, scouse accent thick as he walks into the closet, you watch him as he dries off. lazily throwing on a pair of boxers and sweatpants.
"can you do my hair for me?"
the question comes out softly, like his voice is about to crack. you're confused at first, he'd never even have to ask if you could help him with his hair.
for you, it was a part of your love language.
putting product through the tight coils, making sure he's comfortable while sitting in front of you.
you quirk up a brow when he walks over, his muscles flexing with his brown skin. he leans over, slipping onto the covers, and resting his body against yours.
you support yourself on your elbows, reaching over to run a hand down his chest.
"of course, I'll do your hair. you don't even have to ask, baby.." you reassure, watching as he grunts softly at your touch. his eyes closing as if on instinct.
"good, 'cause I really need it right now.."
you hum, the pad of your thumb making contact with his mustache. giggling when he gives you a confused look.
"this is a good look on you, you know.."
you compliment, not wanting to bring up today's events just yet.
"yeah?" he asks, voice higher pitched than usual as his plump lips stretch into a smile.
"mhm, less of the goatee. more of the 'stache.."
"I wouldn't know what to do if my own fiancée didn't like my face.." he teases, finding humor in his situation, his hand reaching to poke your side.
"terrible situation to be in, I'd imagine.." you chuckle, swatting his hand away with a squeal.
"so squirmy.." he frowns, trying to suppress the smile forming on his face.
"c'mon.." he suddenly says, getting up from his position and grabbing at your thighs. hands wrapping around them as he lifts you up, out of the bed.
"woah?! where to?"
"bathroom, my hair is going to dry before I get any product in it.."
"right.." you respond, steadying yourself when you grasp onto his broad shoulders, looking down when he places you onto the bathroom counter. moving to stand in between your legs.
"you good?" he asks, hands reaching into a couple cabinets. magically placing all products right next to you.
"mhm.." you confirm, hands reaching up to his head of hair.
"can I touch ya?" you ask, wanting to avoid any unnecessary sensory overload, especially when you knew he was upset.
"of course. touch me all you want, lovie.."
you grin, already feeling the moistness of his hair, before carefully starting to take care of his hair. silky and delicious smelling products filling your senses.
his hands find their way to your thighs, fingers drumming on your skin as he looks at you. he's mesmerized by the care you're giving him. treating every single on of his curls utmost carefully and with overwhelming love in your eyes.
"and.. done.." you mutter after a while, your tired hands moving away from his dark hair.
"look in the mirror.." you urge, moving your head away so he can look in the bathroom mirror.
"oh, baby.." he mutters when he looks at himself, satisfied smirk on his face.
"happy?"
"you always do such a good job, lovie. not even surprised.."
he grabs a hold of your jaw, fingers touching your skin gently as he leans forward. placing a grateful and tender kiss onto your lips.
"thank you, lovie.."
"you're welcome.." you cheese, your fingers twitching from the amount of time you spent perfect his hair.
he frowns when he looks down, huge hands dwarfing yours, as he brings them down to the sink. gingerly washing away the oily product.
"how gentle.." you observe, quirking up a brow at trent.
"I've got to be gentle. my lovie just did my hair for me.."
your chuckle is cut of as he picks you off the counter, beeling you both back into your comfortable, awaiting bed.
"tired?"
"mhm.." trent hums, cuddling up next to you, hands reaching for yours in the dark.
"trent, baby.." you speak up, looking for his eyes in the dim light.
"yeah?"
"can we talk about it? please? I'd rather you not keep it inside and suffer without me knowing.."
"y/n- it's fine. losing a match, It's something I've gotten used to over the years.."
"I'm sure it still hurts, though?"
he goes quiet for a moment, his hands starting to massage your tired ones. each finger touching every bone and muscle to relax you to the upmost possibility.
"I'm just disappointed- and just mostly with myself.." he finally spills his emotions.
“I know, and getting the blame must be hard, my love..”
“it is hard, I just keep thinking if did more my best-"
“trent, c’mon you can’t be taking all the blame- especially when there’s a whole team behind the tactics and play..”
you sit up, looking at him with a stern face. he sighs in defeat, throwing his head back onto the pillow.
“i know that, i know..”
you huff, joining his side. he moves slightly, until his arms are wrapped around you. his warm breath hitting your neck.
"can I sing for you?" you say after a moment, playing with his hair.
"sing?"
he repeats, questioning your words.
"It's going to help a lot.." you mention, getting comfortable
“sure, go ahead, lovie..” he gives in, pressing a kiss to your collarbones.
"my only sunshine, my only sunshine.." you begin, voice as soft as possible as you sing.
you hear trent chuckle for a second, it breaks your focus, it making you sigh.
“your ruining the mood, baby..” you complain, scoffing.
“I’m sorry, baby.. go on..”
"you make me happy, when skies are gray.." your voice wobbles, and you suppress your laughter.
trent closes his eyes finally, breath turning shallow as he focuses on your softening voice.
"you'll never know, dear. how much I love you.." you kiss his cheek, warm skin touching the other's.
your warm hands rub his arms and shoulders. though, he moves suddenly burying his face further into the crook of your neck. his facial hair scratching against your skin.
"can I stay like this for a moment, lovie?"
"of course. anything you want.." you murmur, voice vibrating against his temple when you plant multiple kisses there.
"thank you, lovie.."

"does this christmas tree look weird?"
clara looked up at you from the shopping cart, her nose scrunched at the fact that you were standing next to the tree in all sorts of positions— your excuse being that it needed to match your aesthetic as well as your new apartment's.
yes, the time for the big move has finally arrived 2 weeks before christmas. all your boxes had been moved over through the course of you packing them, and today was the day that you and clara got to work.
"I think you look weird," she shot back, earning a fake laugh that made her smile but you took her advice and carried on looking until you opted for the original.
the two of you continued to roam around ikea like two lost puppies while vlogging the entire experience for your youtube channel. truth be told, it was the most relaxing experience that you'd both had in weeks.
not only was the move taking up more time than you'd originally thought, but the number of press conferences, sponsor shoots, and preparation for the team's channel content was burying you alive. you weren't complaining obviously because this was your job.
but sleep had become a foreign concept once more.
"jamie, we have an interview with virgil set up for wednesday, we need you on that."
"are all the reporters in the press conference room? make sure that harvey doesn't say anything too bad this time around please. we can't have a repeat of last time."
"are the graphics for sunday's match ready?"
"ms carter we're set to film in the next 20 minutes, are you miced up?"
"jamie!" you were snapped back by clara yelling your name, loud enough that a few heads turned to look your way. you perked up with a hum and she nudged you on with a skeptical look.
she continued to push the shopping cart, with you walking beside her. "sorry my mind is flooding with--"
"--thoughts of a certain someone?" she eagerly interjected but you were quick to shut her down with a disapproving look.
you shook your head. "work clara. I'm thinking about work."
your friend wasn't too pleased with your answer though and brushed it off with a sceptical hum but you didn't bother to try and defend yourself. there was no reason to anyway, you'd be fighting an invisible war.
your little ikea trip came to an end after another hour, and you were left with 3 shopping carts and the question of how you were going to fit all this in your car. you both stared blankly at all the shopping bags on the floor, not a thought behind your eyes.
"why don't we just come back for the bags later?"
clara turned to look at you, a hiccup in her voice as she agreed with you until it hit her. "wait are we allowed to do that? what if they steal our things?"
the normal thing to do in this situation would be to call for help, perhaps your dad for some extra support but nope. not here and not when you two were together. all basic logic flew out the window the second you stepped anywhere near clara, and today was no different.
with your hands rested on your hips you had a minute to think before snapping your fingers. "we'll just label the bags and give them to the cashier duh."
this was going to be a long day.

"oh my god I think we're done."
you huffed out in exhaustion at clara's question, stood in the living room after you had just fluffed up the last of your throw pillows.
you didn't know how to answer, not knowing if that really was all the decoration done because there might just be one more box hiding somewhere, but your doubt quickly vanished into relief. you nodded slightly in your friend's direction with a smile of disbelief.
you swear that tears had formed in her eyes, and you felt the same. utterly exhausted and relieved. "we're done!!"
clara didn't waste a second and pulled you into an excited embrace that had you jumping up and down and squealing until you flopped down onto the sofa to finally take in the finished product of your first official apartment.
just the feeling of being in a place that you could call your own made your stomach jump. the interior design, the aesthetic— it was all so you. it was cosy and didn't feel the slightest bit empty, the walls littered with artwork, empty spaces decorated with plants, and your furniture being the cherry on top.
it felt like home.
after a few minutes of resting, you checked the time to see that it was well past midnight and even though it was friday, both you and clara had to head into the office the following day for a quick meeting and finalisation for sunday's match against manchester united.
by the time that you were all done showering and getting your things in order, you huddled yourself next to clara on the sofa in front of the t.v. the second you put off the big lights for your lamps, an indescribable feeling settled on your chest an--
"do it," clara said suddenly, drawing your attention away from the t.v.
your eyebrows furrowed in confusion, not knowing what she was talking about. your friend sighed heavily and muttered something under her breath before leaning over and grabbing hold of your phone.
she waved it in front of your face with a lopsided smile. "shoot. your. shot "
"excuse me? who am I shooting exactly?"
your answer didn't amuse her by the looks of it but you didn't worry because you were genuinely confused.
clara leant in a bit closer, "don't play dumb with me. I know what you are. I saw those messages."
it took a moment for you to finally grasp what she was saying and an elongated "ohhhh" left your lips. she mimicked your answer teasingly and shoved your phone back into your palm with a knowing look.
you tried your best to explain that those messaged were just simple fun and jokes but clara insisted that it was way more than that.
"are you reading these texts jamie?? he's flirting with you!!"
you paused to look her up and down for a moment. "are you mental?" you deadpanned.
clara looked as if she was about to blow a fuse, muttering something to herself while you sat with your lips slightly parted in confusion. funny enough this wasn't this first time that she was acting this strange, it had been every few days for the past two weeks.
you didn't understand why it was such a big issue. you and trent were getting slightly closer sure, but clara was pushing it. have you told her about your almost non-existent feelings for him? of course, she was your closest friend.
but something was off with her. even at work when you'd be around them during training or busy with the p.r filming, clara would nudge you into his direction. something was up, and you needed it out.
"clara," you started firmly. "what do you know?"
something flashed on her face for a split second and she averted her gaze to the t.v. "I don't know what you're talking about. I'm just saying that--"
she truly was a horrible liar.
"you're doing a horrible job at covering this up, don't just sit there and act confused." your eyebrows narrowed at her silence, a meak look on her eyes. "out with it then."
she sighed and ran a hand through her hair in frustration, you could even see a tint of red at the tips of her ears. clara was stubborn, and you were growing impatient.
she looked at you for a moment before relaxing her shoulders. "life isn't some fairy tale you know?"
what the hell is this girl talking about?
"like--" she looked up at the ceiling in thought. "--we can't expect the universe to sense our romantic feelings and magically play things in our favour."
you blinked at her a few times. "bro what the hell are you saying??"
faster than you could register, clara grabbed you by the shoulders with a look of determination in your eyes. "I'm saying make a move because no one is going to make it for you! this isn't some feet kicking, giggly rom com!"
clara's words were like a slap to the face, leaving you just as stunned. you didn't know how to respond to her, only being able to part your lips with no words falling from them.
your cellphone that was in her hand was now pressed tighly against your chest, with clara looking at you with gentle encouragement even though her words were far from it.
"okay, friends to lovers I guess." she raised her eyebrows slightly. "so about how you work on the lovers part instead of taking three steps back whenever you take one forward, you fucking coward!"
Tumblr media
christmas had passed and it was a week into the new year. what better way to start the new year than to play arsenal in the fa cup third round? the year started off well at least, with the 4-2 win against newcastle.
you were fully settled into your new apartment, as well as your sister in london. the only thing bugging you, was clara being the equivalent of a mosquito— or a better yet, a parasite that kept reminding you of "the deal".
the deal being you asking trent on one friendly date and she'll leave you alone, and never mention anything remotely close to your love life again. you said yes as a way to get her out of your hair, but instead the exact opposite happened.
so you were planning on swallowing whatever pride you had and ask him to come over to your apartment just to chill. okay, that's definitely not what you were going to say, because that just sounded pathetic and extremely embarrassing.
just the thought alone, made you cringe.
the team arrived at the emirates stadium at 4 p.m that sarurday afternoon. the weather was a bit warmer than it had been the past few weeks, and you were quite excited for the match to be honest. you had a hunch today, or maybe you were just hungry.
you followed the camera crew out to the pitch and helped them set up before doing the necessary media procedure (making your promotional tiktoks). the first hour for setting up was always fun for you, it was quieter but to be left alone on the pitch was always something.
at some point, you even tried to teach clara how to do some warm-up drills. it would have her clapping her hands in excitement and saying, "I remember that from training."
the two of you messed around with the camera crew for a bit and documented your first trip to the emirates stadium. it was insane to think that you'd only had this job for 4 months, the most eventful yet peaceful months ever to be honest.
"why does their grass look greener than ours?" clara asked in distaste as she looked down at the ground, tapping her foot lightly.
you joined her and averted your gaze to the "greener" grass and shook your head. "It's not." you waved your hands in the air. "the air is different here or something, so it seems greener."
clara hummed in agreement, tapping her finger to her temple. "mind games. london is crazy dude."
you laughed at her comment, until the realisation began to seep in ever so slowly. "london." you muttered under your breath and put your hands on your head, causing clara to grow concerned. "shit, we're in london."
your friend gave you a look that screamed, "well no duh", but you were in fight or flight mode, saying that you needed to leave immediately which was so stupid.
"I can't be here. wait, no I'm just being dramatic. but what if I'm not?? what if I'm not being dramatic clara???"
she was dumbfounded at your sudden mood shift and nonsensical rambling, and was about to try and get any sort of coherent information but you were interrupted by a staff member calling your name since the dressing room was ready for a few more clips.
you didn't spare clara another glance and tried your best to calm yourself down as you entered the dressing room, debating with yourself on whether or not you were going insane. it took a bit but you managed to collect your thoughts and rethink the situation.
I'm just being dramatic.
you took one last breath and turned to the door, only to be met with a very confused harvey and cody. the two just stared a you for a moment, and you weren't quite sure why since it was normal for you to be in the dressing room before a game.
"I told you," harvey shook his head and looked at cody. "she's straight up talking to herself right now."
"I was what?" you asked quickly with widened eyes and cody was the one to answer this time.
"you were chanting 'I'm not being dramatic' over and over." there wasn't a hint of uncertainty in his tone which made you feel slightly embarrassed, only for mo to walk from behind them and ask what the hold up was since they were standing in the doorway.
harvey took a few cautious steps towards you. "jamie's either a witch or mentally ill." he mocked a gasp with his hand in front of his mouth. "or maybe she's a mentally ill witch."
you lunged towards him in retaliation but he managed to slither his way through the rest of the boys who were still coming in, their looks of confusion not going unnoticed. he played it safe and hid behind ibou , who preferred not to play mediator and gave him a slap on the back of his head, causing him to yell out in pain.
he tsked at the younger boy. "and you wonder why she has it out for you"
just as you put your phone back into your pocket, a light knock echoed through the now-filled room. in the doorway, stood clara who was there to fetch you for the last staff debrief. you gave harvey one last look up and down before bidding your goodbye to the rest of the team.
you joined clara as she strolled through the corridors, no haste in her step at all for some reason. she didn't say much either which worried you, so you took the initiative to ask her what was up but she didn't answer.
instead, her eyes perked up and you turned to look at what caught her attention, only to see trent walking in with his headphones on and his attention glued to his phone. the desperate look you gave clara didn't suffice, and the two of you ended up having a small whispered argument.
you shook your head vigorously as she gestured to trent who was still walking in your direction to get to the dressing room. all you had to do was walk past him without drawing attention to yourself, and you promised clara that you'd ask him after the match but she was stubborn and insisted on it happening that very moment.
"jamie I'm sorry, I love you I promise."
before you could object, she shoved you a little harsher than expected and instead of lightly nudging trent on the side like she thought you would, you ended up bumping into him in a full collision.
luckily nothing fell out of his hands, seeing as he was too startled and perhaps clara thought that he would catch you by the waist just in time— but this wasn't some fairytale! instead, he held onto his belongings tighter and watched in shock as you hit the wall, shoulder first.
"are you okay?" trent lowered his headphones and turned his attention to you. you couldn't even bring yourself to meet his gaze, but you had to suck it up despite the amount of pain you were in.
you muffled a painful hum in response and waved his concern off. "yeah, sorry I was just--" you turned to look at where clara previously was but she was gone. "--that bitch," you muttered through a gritted smile, thinking of the ways that you were going to make her life hell later on.
"excuse me?" trent asked, not sure if you were talking to him which caused the red on your face to deepen.
"nothing," you laughed awkwardly and stood up properly, your arms folded over your chest. "I just wanted to say hi... I guess."
he accounted for the uncertainty in your answer but didn't bring it up, only feining a lopsided smile. "well that was quite the entrance, super dramatic."
you faked a laugh at his joke and blinked a few times. "yeah, you know me and being dramatic. you can't have one without the other." your tongue poked the side of your cheek at the irony of your answer.
a moment of silence enveloped the two of you again as the awkward encounter came to an end because trent needed to get to the dressing room. you moved to the side and let him past, internally battling with yourself for wasting the opportunity but you called him back before he was too far off.
trent looked down at you, the shimmer in his eyes having you frozen in spot for a moment. "I wanted to know if you were..." you had no idea how you were supposed to ask him at all, you didn't think that practice was needed.
"like tomorrow since we have the day off, would you..."
this was pathetic. you were pathetic, fumbling over your words for something this stupid. it was so unlike you to be this nervous, which made it even more awkward.
trent gave you another moment before his lips tugged up into a smile. "yes I would."
you swallowed the lump in your throat. "you don't even know what I was going to say."
he simply shrugged his shoulders. "whatever you want, I'm down for. and as much as I'd love to continue this little back and forth, I really need to go. but I'll see you later okay?"
you nodded. all you could do was nod as you watched him walk away with the same amused smile on his lips when all you wanted to do was bury yourself alive. never again, this was never going to happen again. you wouldn't allow it.
you ran your fingers through your hair in an attempt to cool down your rising temperature. you were blushing for no reason at all. with your back against the wall, you took a few deep breaths only to feel a nudge on your shoulder. you didn't bother opening your eyes, because if you did then all hell would break loose.
you could hear clara smiling from beside you as she leant in and whispered teasingly. "he's down for whatever you want," she giggled. "what do you want jamie?"
"I want you dead."
Tumblr media
it was about 10 minutes before kick-off and both teams were on the pitch for their warm-ups, while the supporters settled in their seats and so far, everything was running as per normal.
you were doing your regular rounds with your camera around your neck, as well as your phone in hand to get some videos of the boys for extra content. you even got the opportunity to talk to a few of the arsenal players as well.
they were all extremely nice, asking about how you were finding your job so far and whatnot. it was a sweet interaction that you didn't expect from them, especially since this was a crucial match.
"you must be getting so cold right now," ali chuckled as he took a spot beside you on the pitch, leaning over to look at the pictures you were going through on the camera.
you scoffed. "being cold is a mindset, I'm perfectly fine right now."
your answer prompted a laugh from the older man who wasn't the slightest bit convinced. "I can see your goosebumps."
"you're delusional."
finally it was time for kick off, and you took your respective seat next to clara with the rest of the staff and huddled into your hoodie with your hands in your pocket. for the first 10 minutes of the first half, you couldn't help but feel that you were being watched.
normally you'd brush the feeling off, but today it felt different. so eventually you took the liberty of turning around and scouting the crowd to see if you could notice anyone, and just as you were about to give up someone in the crowd caught your eye.
your stomach dropped to the floor with a single moment of eye contact. it felt as if the world around you had stopped, the only thing catching your eye being the boy looking over your shoulder.
he looked no different than when you last saw him, just a bit more mature. as usual, he was sporting his arsenal jersey and scarf— the same jersey and scarf that you scolded him for wearing around you. the look in his eyes was unreadable, but his expression must've been just as shocked as yours.
you shifted your gaze to the person cuddled to his side, and to no surprise, there stood your ex-best friend. in the flesh, just as you started to move on the universe decided to give you the biggest reminder of your departure from london.
michael and kelly— your ex-boyfriend and your ex-best friend.
you couldn't break eye contact no matter how hard you tried and clara who wanted to comment on something about the match was victim to your daze. with her eyebrows furrowed she followed your gaze, her jaw dropping instantly.
something crept up your spine, and unfamiliar feeling that you couldn't shake off while trying to focus on the match in front of you.
"I wish I was a mentally ill witch right now."

your eyes dart to your phone screen again, reading the last text message your date sent you. he said he’d be there in a minute, so you shove your phone back into your jacket.
the fair isn’t very busy today, most likely due to it being a weekday. the weather had started picking up these past few days. gloomy, rainy winter days replaced with sunny, warm spring days.
you’d missed seeing the blue sky and the pretty, colorful flowers in the park. you had noticed most people were much happier and of course, just like the little lambs being born, symbolizing a new life- your own life seemed to also flicker to another chapter.
you and trent have known each other for a couple of months now. first meeting through a mutual friend at a small, intimate party on a rainy november night. you hadn’t thought much of it at first. of course- he was handsome, and that wasn’t something you could look away from.
you knew who he was, as a football player for one of the world’s best clubs- you’d assumed he would be too busy interacting with other people to notice you.
obviously, you also were too busy speaking to the people you did know. until- one of your mutual friends had introduced him to you.
unbeknownst to you, he’d been eyeing you across the room since he’d caught sight of the pretty smile you’d flash your friend when they said something funny. at first glance, he had almost choked on his unnecessarily expensive tequila, it burning horribly in the back of his throat.
he barely recovered from the shock before one of his best mates had dragged him across the venue, insisting he’d talk to you. only, because he thought ‘you two would be a great couple’.
you were caught off guard at first, but the looks your friends were sending you- had given you enough courage to speak to him without being flustered.
you two only hung out more after that night, accepting frequent invites to his games, and random visits to each other’s place, which only increased when trent got injured.
you look up at the shout of your name, turning around to see trent walk up to you. he’s dressed nicely as usual, comfy enough for all the rides and games you’d planned to play.
“hi!” you beam, greeted by his pearly white smile. his lips turned up when he makes eye contact with you.
“hey, you alright?” he asks, his scouser accent familiar as he gives you a warm hug. you bury your face in the crook of his neck for a moment, smelling his signature cologne.
“I’m fine, how ‘bout you and your knee?” you question, knowing that he didn’t have to wear a brace anymore.
“better, I can walk properly- at least..” he replies, the both of you starting to walk past the various games and food trucks.
it doesn’t take long before you’re both immersed into the money-grabbing games available. from popping balloons with darts to a donut-eating contest. which you won, that left you with powdered sugar all over the corners of your mouth. prompting trent to gently wipe the sugary product off with his thumb and a raised heartbeat he had difficulty controlling.
“let’s try that roller coaster over there..” you suggest, pointing up to the least intimidating one.
“you don’t want to go in the one that goes upside down?” he asks, pressing the bunny plushie you had won into his chest. you hold back a chuckle at the sight, shaking your head.
“nope, don’t trust going upside down on a rollercoaster that’s practically been pulled out of a suitcase..” you state, lining up with him so you can get on the attraction.
he chuckles at your explanation, glancing at your impatient expression. thankfully, it’s your turn after a few minutes. you both strap in safely, making sure the bars are as tight as possible against your chest and stomach.
“aren’t you scared?” he asks, looking at your giddy expression. you shake your head almost immediately, making sure your pockets are zipped so your phone won’t fall out.
soon, the cart you’re in slowly starts rolling up. your breath hitches in excitement, wind starting to blow into your faces. you glance at trent, who’s sporting a less excited expression, so you shout in excitement when the cart drops and goes up multiple times. hoping your happiness will be infectious and cheer him up.
it works! the couple of looks you sneak, tell you he was pretty satisfied, cheering and shouting along with you.
you take a deep breath when the cart stops. the both of you slightly dizzy when you step out.
“you liked that one?” you ask, fixing your jacket as you both start walking away, walking past other attractions.
“i did! i was nervous for a moment, won’t lie..” he replies, scouser accent thick and laced with excitement.
“good, I’m glad you liked it- oh look!” you suddenly exclaim. pointing to the haunted house, fake skeletons, and more ‘scary’ props used to decorate the entrance.
“you want to go inside?” trent asks, raising a brow at you. he wasn’t aware that you were such an adrenaline junkie, or were you?
“yes, let’s go!” you urge, paying the entrance fee, and stepping inside. the bunny plushie now pressed into your side as you both start walking into the dark maze.
“i can’t see anything..” you murmur, eyes slowly adjusting to the darkness. your arm grazes trent’s, which in turn makes your breath hitch. your temperature rises, despite the coldness of the room you’re in.
“me neither..” you hear trent mutter, he glances at you in the dark. your arms touching each other every now and then. the numerous fake spiderwebs and bone-chilling moving skulls making you freeze up often.
entering another room, you’re immediately greeted by a zombie. the special effects props and makeup, too good not to jump and scream.
“shit!” you exclaim, back pressing against trent’s chest when you take a step back.
“what the fuck!” you hear the scouser shout against your ear. it hurts for a moment, but you’re too focused on the zombie trying to get close to you to care about it.
you feel strong hands grab at your jacket. instinctively you know it’s trent, so you keep scuffling forward. trying your best to ignore the groaning and gurgling sounds coming from the too-talented actor.
walking through the empty hall, you look at him, his grip on your jacket loosening.
“you’re such a coward..” you accuse, laughing when remembering how he shouted in fear.
“you’re the one who yelled first..” he retorts, and you can make out a smirk on his face.
“here, take my hand.” he offers, holding his hand out. which you can only see because of the green lights strung along the dusty hallway.
your heart skips a beat or two, stopping you in your tracks. you feel your face heat up, and you’re glad he can’t fully make out your dumbfounded expression in the dark. you quickly shove away that lovesick feeling, trying to compose yourself.
“that’s a really weird way to propose, but okay..” you tease, your fingers intertwining with trent’s. knowing you’d probably made him more dazzled than he made you flustered.
“wait, no- i meant-" he stutters, mind going totally foggy as he forgets how to form a proper sentence in his state. you hold back a smile, knowing his brain was probably running kilometers an hour.
“wait, did you say you’d marry me?” he suddenly questions, face contouring into confusion and a dumbstruck expression.
“uh, no?” you feign your upmost innocence, thumb grazing his knuckles. a sweet, comforting touch, but it only makes the short circuit in his brain worse.
you smirk to yourself, carefully dragging him along. mindful of his injury as your hearts beat in unison, like electric sparks flying off the pads of your fingers.
the hold on each other’s hands only gets tighter, until the last jumpscare. this time, your entire front is pressed against his back, it scaring you a bit too much. you thought the cackling clown was the end of the attraction.
you catch your breath when you finally step outside, trent’s hand on your back. soothing rubs helping you calm down faster.
“why- why would they think using a knife prop was a good idea?” you pant, questioning if the ten-pound entrance fee was worth it.
trent squeezes into your hand, reassuring you with his touch. “you’re good, it’s all fake- remember?” he rationalizes your thoughts, slowly pulling you away to the food trucks.
he sits you down on a small wooden bench and table, eyes roaming on your face to check up on you.
“are you alright?” he asks, face inching closer to yours. his breath hitting your lips.
“I’m fine, really..” you reassure, squeezing into the plushy for comfort.
“let’s have something to eat, then we’ll get on the ferris wheel. is that okay?” he asks, voice patient and sweet. the kindness in his expression and words cheers you up a bit. so, you smile, nodding in agreement.
“i’ve heard that they have really nice tacos. want to try?” he suggests, glancing up at the food truck in question.
“sure, let’s try them.” you answer, he nods walking away to order and collect your food. he comes back fairly quickly, placing the delicious and warm tacos on the table. not to forget, the extra cups of guacamole, lime and sour cream.
“eat up before they get cold..” he says, the both of you digging into your food and drink of choice. a comfortable silence ensues, with soft hums and small comments made in delight.
“i love fair food..” you hum, taking the last few sips of your drink. trent nods in agreement, leaning over to wipe some of the sour cream off your lip.
you pause your movements at the action, eyes darting to his brown ones. his touch is delicate and careful, and he folds the napkin after pulling away.
“there, all clean..” he mutters, cleaning the table off and coming back from the recycling bin.
“do you want to go on the ferris wheel now? it’s getting dark, and the view will be nice..” he asks, unconsciously holding his hand out for you to hold.
you nod excitedly, clutching onto his warm hand as you both make your way to the ferris wheel. your bodies touching as you lean them against each other, waiting in line for the last attraction of the night.
it’s imminent that a sweet first kiss will be shared, right? a flicker to the next chapter of your life. the city lights witnessing a love blooming like a patch of yellow daffodils in spring.

It wasn't that she hated football.
It was quite the opposite actually, she holds a deep appreciation to the level of passion and athleticism that men and women give day in and day out in their matches, she is aware of how difficult it can be to maintain a level of fitness, and how it was even more difficult to overcome an injury due to the injuries they pick up.
It was that the sport in question reminded her of someone she had tried her best not to think of since moving from her home land three years ago, someone who just so happen to be unveiled as the newest player of Liverpool's Football Club, someone she had hoped not to see again yet would now have to sit through an entire match and see him do what he had always wanted.
The root of what had unfortunately been the sole reason for their friendship ending on a not so sweet note.
Dominik to her was more than the son of her father's close friend, much less a next door neighbor; the pair were only a year apart from one another with Dominik being the oldest yet it was only a miniscule and barely visible difference, the young boy took an instant liking to her at age five when he had seen just how much she, like him loved to kick around his football.
It lead to days where the pair played in the  back yard of her home, or his whilst their mothers would sit and watch them play, often times cracking jokes about how the sport could be the stepping stone to a lovely relationship blossoming between them.
At first they brushed it off, like any two friends would citing that it wouldn't feel right to fall in love with your best and yet, as time went on, naturally her feelings had shifted and while she tried her best to chuck it down to a ludicrous teenage crush, it had only gotten worse with every year; it didn't help that Dominik had manged to charm her into moving with him to Germany, claiming he'd done his research and that there would be schools her, the other reason would be that he wanted his best friend there with him every step of his career.
She should have said no, weaved a ridiculous excuse and moved away; yet how could she when he looked at her the way he did with those damned beautiful eyes - that seemed more than enough for her to uproot her entire life to Germany to study while he pursued his passion on a bigger stage.
Little did she know, that this move would be the beginning of the end.
Their movie nights that were once a ritual were few and far in between, cooking dinner together became a one woman's job as she would receive one excuse after another from him, even their conversations had lessened as he was either too tired to speak or in his way out to party with his teammates.
She didn't want to appear clingy, or to even demand his attention yet it was clear as the daylight that the boy she once knew had changed entirely to someone she no longer recognized, resulting in what she looks back on as the most difficult decision she could ever make, to walk away before she loses her heart entirely.
Safe to say it didn't end well, an explosive argument erupted with harsh words thrown left and right with the last thing she remembers him saying being, " I never want to see you again " and it was from that moment that she vowed never to think of him ever again.
The match was entertaining with Dominik displaying the skills she had always known he had, Layla had spent most of the match gushing over Trent and how attractive he was making her giggle at how vivacious her best friend was, and once they returned home, she had hoped that it would be a one and done situation.
Unaware that fate had other plans for the both of them.
____
" Remind me again why we are going out! " She states with a loud tone, a soft breath erupts from her lips once she managed to tie the last strap of her dress.
Against her better judgement, she was roped into accompanying her close friend and roommate, Layla to a new club that had garnered quite the buzz around the city, she searched through her dresses settling on a sophisticated little black dress reaching all the way down and stopping at the middle of her thighs with spaghetti straps covering her back.
Layla waltzes into her room, dressed in a beautiful baby pink jumpsuit that complemented her fair skintone beautifully. " Because, you have been so stressed out so we need to get drunk and enjoy our time, besides you can sleep off the hangover tomorrow since you're not working " she shrugs nonchalantly, before a smirk adorned her brims. " Or ....? " she trails off with a suggestive look.
" No, absolutely not. I won't cure my heart by having sex with a complete stranger " She said, shuddering at the mere idea.
Unlike Layla, she wasn't as vivacious and wild - she had gone on a few dates since moving here, but they were just that; dates that had either ended with a brief kiss or a slap on the face if they'd crossed the line, as much as she tried to ignore her feelings, her battered heart still beats for him.
A groan erupts from Layla's brims, " You are such a snooze fest, you gotta liven up a bit. I know you're still hung up on that mysterious guy you told me about but its not like you're ever going to see him again, so the best way to get over someone is to get under someone "
" I swear if you try anything I'm ditching you in that club " She points a warning finger at Layla. " I don't care what it is, but I'm not hooking up with any weird man "
Layla snickers then raises her hands in mock surrender, " Alright, but think about it! I might not even have to do anything because baby that dress is going to have a lot of guys drooling "
" Can we just go before I change my mind? " She groans.
__
The atmosphere of the club reeked of two distinct scents, alcohol and sex ... bodies close to another, dancing and chatting under the colorful lights and booming music. " Come on let's get shots " Layla practically drags her to the bar, unaware that the both of them had captured the attention of a few piercing gazes that belonged to two well known people, one of which she had been trying to avoid.
" Mate, who's caught your eye there? " Trent asks Dominik as the pair were seated in a private booth at the top floor of the club.
Dominik had noticed a familiar figure entering the semi crowded club almost instantly, he'd thought he was seeing things given the fact that the last time he saw her was two years ago, he kept his gaze on her until she turned around and that's when his eyes widened, it was her. " I ... " He was honestly too stunned to speak.
Trent followed his gaze and smirked, " Ok! they're quite pretty but which one are you really looking at? "
" I wasn't looking " Dominik shrugs, " I just .. thought I saw someone familiar "
" Oh ... " Trent mutters then smiles, " You mean your childhood friend "
Since his arrival to Liverpool, Dominik was able to fit in with his teammates quite well, specifically Trent, hence why they'd decided to step out together and celebrate their impressive win over City.
" More like former friend " Dominik mutters before taking a sip of his glass. " I messed up and really hurt her "
" Did you try reaching out? " Trent wonders.
" Everytime I try, I end up chickening out and honestly, I don't think she wants to hear from me " Dominik shrugs, " It's fine "
_
" Holy shit! Talia look " Layla gasps.
" What? " She said loudly.
Instead of responding verbally, Layla gestures with her head to look up and she follows her gaze to see what she meant, and that was when her eyes widened, and all the color draines from her face. " Fuck "
" Yes, that's Trent Alexander Arnold and Liverpool's new player Dominik Szoboszlai " Layla squeals. " They're staring at us "
" Layla, I need to go " She whispers.
Layla frowns in confusion " What? " she states before asking. " Why? "
" I just ... " She began, feeling her chest contract in a way that made it difficult for her to breathe, " I just need to leave, you stay and have fun ok "
Before Layla could respond, the young brunette storms out of the club to try and get some fresh air, she walks across the street to a small dinee that was still open at this time, in an attempt to calm her racing her heart.
She orders a cup of tea and a sandwich, and while she waits; she covers her face with her hands, inhaling and exhaling in an attempt to even out her breath - it seemed to work for a brief moment until she hears the all too familiar voice.
" Talia! "
_
He didn't mean to follow her like a creep, yet when he had seen her face; and the way she had instantly recognized him, it shattered his heart to see the broken look in her eyes, even more so when he saw her storming out of the club causing him to follow her all the way out to the diner she walked into, he takes a deep breath before walking into the diner.
" Talia ", Her name effortlessly flows past his brims in the smoothest way possible.
Her head shot up to meet his gaze that was a combination of longing and sadness, her gaze however was that of agony. " Dominik " she said.
He gestures to the empty chair, " Can I sit down? " he asks.
She remains silent for a moment before a ghost of a smile appears on her lips, " No, you may not. In fact, you can have the table all for yourself and the food as well " she stands up then walks past him to leave.
He runs out after her, " Talia ... Talia, wait up. Please! "
" Go away Dominik " She yells, refusing to look behind her.
He finally caught up to her, grabbing her arm. " No, I'm not going away " he said.
" Dominik let go of my arm! " She exclaims.
" Can we please just go and talk? " He pleads, " Please? "
" Fine, you better have a good explanation " She mutters, stomping her way back to the diner with Dominik following her.
_
They spent the first fifteen minutes in silence before he breaks it by uttering the nickname he used for her, " Tali "
" Dom, get to the point. I don't want an apology " She mutters, crossing her arms over her chest.
" I know that I was a shitty best friend, I let football consume my life so much that I ended up leaving you on the side as if you didn't matter " He began then adds on, " and I know I hurt you by not wanting to be a part of all the activities we used to do "
" I understood the importance of football to you Dom, believe me I did " She said, " But you just ... you basically left me alone on more than one occasion, to the point where I firmly believed that I lost you for good "
" Oh Tali " He sighs, " I know I was being unfair "
" I didn't want that argument to happen, but what you said keeps echoing in the back of my mind " She reminds him, " You said you never wanted to see me again "
" And I hate myself every single day for it " He assurss her, " All my success couldn't have been possible had it not been for God's blesisng, for my family and most of all, for you "
She blinks away the tears threatening to fall, " Dom " she whispers.
" I remembered you every day, every time I went out there on the pitch to play, I would look for your face in the crowd " He said. " I never stopped asking your parents about you, and when they told me you were here, I actually .. " he chuckles, " I prayed that we would run into each other "
" And here I was, praying that I would avoid you " She giggles.
Dominik smiles carefully reaching for her hand to squeeze it, " I missed you so much, édes pillangó "
" I missed you too " She mutters softly.
" Can we " He asks with a small voice, " can we start over? properly this time "
" What do you mean? " She raised a brow.
" There's a reason why I drifted apart from you " He begins slowly, " The truth is ... I " he swallows the lump in his throat, " I love you "
" What? " She whispers in complete disbelief.
Dominik nods, his gaze softening up to display his emotions. " I loved you since the first day I saw you kicking around the ball ... I loved you because you would literally be there for me, even before I can seek you out, I love you because you always know what to say to help me cheer up after a loss, or inspire me to keep pushing day in and day out ... " He smiles widely, " I love you for you, all of you "
" why didn't you tell me? " she asks him.
" I was scared, I mean ... have you seen yourself? " He states with chuckle, " It killed me how all my teammates were so fascinated by you that on more than one occasion, I wanted to kiss you senseless and show them that you belong to me, that you're mine " he adds on, " So, will you be mine? "
" Dom, I've always been yours " She shakes her head with a smile before leaning closer to peck his lips.
" Good, because I plan on making up for every moment I wasted being apart from you " He grins.
He remembers her.
She remembers him.
And love never forgot them.
