So I FINALLY got the art of wish book which is so so good and? I’m honestly a little surprised that the only things that got leaked online were the starboy and evil amaya concepts when it’s literally filled with gems? Here’s a few but first let me tell you, the art alone makes it worth it. It’s amazing
Tumblr media
THE HAMLET! LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THE HAMLET!! Apparently in an early draft Asha and her community had left Rosas and started living hidden in the forest so their wishes could be safe from Magnifico. This hidden place was called “The Hamlet” and it still exists in the final movie, though it’s just a part of Rosas and doesn’t have the original lore. I really hope this trope gets reused for a future Disney movie because it’s a really cool concept!
Tumblr media
Live action Valentino??
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some Sakina dump because I love her (also meet Tomás)
Tumblr media
Oh and you know the wishing tree in the movie? It’s based on Walt Disney’s own actual wishing tree?? Wtf???
Also there’s a whole 2 pages about Dahlia explaining how much effort and care were put into her creation as a character with a disability. They actually had consultants making sure that ANY form of representation felt authentic and positive. They did not just made the cast multi-ethnic, they actually did their research so that any culture was well portrayed, all the way to the littlest details like textures on their clothing or even each character’s way of greeting.
And about the animation not being fully 2D… Haters conveniently forget mentioning that the movie is expressly made to celebrate both the past AND future of WDAS. Then like it or not, but you can’t possibly celebrate all of Disney without CGI animation. CGI is also Disney. Tangled and Frozen and Moana became instant Disney classics. I would die for a traditional animated movie, but when you put it this way, it makes perfect sense to me that they went with hybrid style for this movie specifically. It just feels right.
Also going through these pages… you just feel the love the producers and animators put in every single reference to older classics. Animation techniques were literally inspired by actual frames from Snow White, Pinocchio, Fantasia, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Peter Pan. So were coloring techniques, lighting, cinematography… There was a breathing effort of paying homages to these movies with tremendous talent in them, while also creating something new. So hate on this movie as much as you want, but mind you calling it “AI-made”. It’s not. It’s made by humans.
Oh, and finally, Starboy. Well, yeah, I fell for it. People literally made it all up. There’s zero indication that he was gonna be Asha’s love interest, let alone be the one singing At All Costs instead of Magnifico. From what the book says (there’s literally two short paragraphs about him, before Star comes in) I think they didn’t even have a plot then, they were just exploring ideas and made some brainstorming sketches deciding how Star could have been. Same with evil Amaya! That one pic that leaked of her with Magnifico is all we got. There’s no indication that it was gonna be “a better movie” because there is no plot for that lol

The Disney Afternoon’s’ programming block launched 34 years ago, September 10, 1990.
The block will turn 35 years in 2025, wishful thinking for a crossover series with all characters like Jellystone! from MAX getting ordered.
The 2010s and 2020s saw new interations of some shows of The Disney Afternoon block with DuckTales as reboot for Disney XD , Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers as a live action/cgi hybrid film for Disney+.
youtube
youtube
New interations of The Disney Afternoon shows are still being made with Darkwing Duck having a reboot in the works since 2020 and a TaleSpin reboot very early in development since 2023 both projects for Disney+ are being helm by Disney Television Animation, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Point Grey Pictures. (Nickelodeon Animation Studios "Tales Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles") In October 2023, it was announced that Gargoyles was getting a live action reboot handled by Atomic Monster and Blumhouse Television, Gary Dauberman (Warner Bros “Anabelle” franchise), acts as showrunner with James Wan and Michael Clear (Universal Pictures “M3GAN”) as Executive Producers alongside Jason Blum (Universal Pictures "Five Nights At Freddy's").

As of right now there's two major Disney Afternoon IPs still left to be rebooted:
-Adventures Of The Gummi Bears
-Goof Troop
Who's next? i guess the future knows however attempts by current Disney Television Animation artists where made:
"Goof Troop" by Becky Dreistadt and Frank Dreistad  (“Big City Greens”, “Big City Greens The Movie: Spacecation”, “Star Vs. The Forces Of Evil”, Cartoon Network Studios “Steven Universe The Movie”, “Steven Universe Future”)
Tumblr media
"Adventures of The Gummi Bears" by Pedro Eboli and Mark Satterthwaite (Netflix “Cupcake and Dino: General Services”, Cartoon Network LATAM “Oswaldo”, Nickelodeon “Ollie’s Pack”, Discovery Kids LATAM “Bada Bean”, Amazon Prime Video "Gary and His Demons")

What's the stupidest au for TF2 you can think of?
I'll start, 2005, PG rated, live action/cartoony CGI hybrid au.
Heavy is the live action one and everyone else is a cartoon, Soldier is played by Patrick Warburton, Pyro is played by Richard Steven horvitz making grunting noises, "pump it louder" by the black eyed peas and "who let the dogs out" is on the sound track. @tyrianluda

The thing that pisses me off the most about the minecraft movie trailer is that it could've been so much better if it was animated instead of CGI. like imagine if it was animated in the style of the minecraft promotional images/trailers
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I just watched the nether update trailer again and it would be so much better if it was animated like that instead of the gross looking CGI that we get. The animation just looks so lively, I love how they animated their movements. Its so bouncy and you can't really do that with real people. Speaking of that, I don't understand why it needed to be with real people, why can't they just turn into minecraft versions of themselves??? Minecrafts world isn't meant to be realistic, so why try and make it look real??
This weird combination of the blocky world of minecraft and reality just doesn't work, look at the wolf for example. It looks so weird and unnatural in the trailer. The square bumps make it look more like the wolf is deformed. But I know they couldn't just make the world fully realistic because the blockyness of it is important to Minecraft. So they made this strange hybrid and I hate it. I need the trend of turning cartoony worlds into live action to STOP

wow you really love disney metafiction
Well yes Who Framed Roger Rabbit always fascinated me as a kid, what adaptions would our world have what would change if our characters really existed and lived beside us would Disney be as greedy as it is if Mickey Mouse was actually owner over it it instead of Bob Iger being CEO nd Investors having their claws in it? Would Bugs be the owner of Warner or would he be chilling as an A-list celebrity who is a known as a beloved LGBTQA Drag Queen and Genderfluid Veteran?
Mickey and Minnie married off screen and dating on screen?
Looney Tunes known as chaos incarnate but they're a giant family
Bugs and Daffy adopted the Animaniacs because they had no home
Are Bugs and Daffy together off screen?
What would shape each toon into their On Screen and off-screen selves creating that divide?
What would the huge differences be? Maybe some have kids others are married and some have entire seperate family?
How would humans react to these guys as a species that has a bad record of looking down upon people?
Mickey and Bob Iger having a I absolutely despise you but I have to tolerate you relationship
Off screen the Warner siblings are actually related to Oswald and Ortensia explaining the Animaniacs' strange unidentifiable appearances,
Like the possibilities are endless and vast, there's just so much unexplored due to the fact companies can't share at all anymore and they don't think live action hybrids are useful
Chip and Dale 2022 resparked it for me, a lot of ideas going a million miles, like if I had finances I'd be getting reference shots to use for test fan animation just for the fun of it, cause it fascinates me that much,
And while you call it metafiction it's actually just cartoons meeting our reality seriously go check out the movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit that movie right there shows what exactly I'm talking about and here I'll even include some screenshots of a couple films that do this
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bugs Bunny Focus for Back in Action cuz honestly I think this is his most iconic look besides the Viking look when it comes to his drag and honestly the line normally I play the love interest is just amazing
Roger and Eddie(played by Bob Hoskins) in Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers 2022
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the adaption I was talking about earlier look at Ellie next to the apartment building for small toons. She's as tall as it, while Chip and Dale are the perfect size for it, unlike Who Framed Roger rabbit Chip and Dale takes place in the modern day that's what hooked me to create a modern AU it's all so fascinating,
Tumblr media
You can't see it in that shot but Dale is driving a full-blown human sized car that has been adapted for Chipmunks I'm not joking, however their movie shows how wildly different everybody can look from each other especially in the modern day when CG is a thing. Chip is still clearly 1990s 2D animated while Dale decided to get a CGI redesign
Like if Mickey and Minnie are only two feet tall and if he's the big boss on set yeah it's really funny to me to imagine him running around Disney and trying to picture every single Studio adapting to these Toons and their various size differences
Again there is just so so much that has been untapped with this genre, because Studios cannot get along long enough to tap into it

My Imaginary Ride The Cyclone Hybrid Live-Action and Animation Feature Film that only exists in my head: Part 2
Here's the link to Part 1!
Apologies for splitting it into 2 parts. Tumblr literally wouldn't let me post it as one big chunk. 😭
Continuing on:
To refresh: This would be a hybrid film that combines both live action and animated segments. The majority of the movie would be shot in live-action under a sepia filter, but all of the choir member's songs would be animated with different art styles. "What The World Needs" is in CGI Disney style, "Noel's Lament" is black-and-white 2D animation, "This Song is Awesome" is stylized graffiti, and "Talia" is in watercolor.
Of course, "Space Age Bachelor Man" will use an art style resembling Silver Age comics (which, fun fact, is around the time Silver Surfer was introduced). The song sequence will actually show most of the events Ricky details in his fantasies (ie., him getting abducted to Planet Zolar, laying with the sexy cat women, stopping the war between K-9 and Zolar, etc.).
Side Note: We don't actually see Ricky get freaky on screen. But we do see him and the kitties in snippets of suggestive action accompanied by on-screen sound bubbles every time Ricky says "Meow!". (This movie is already getting an R-rating for every time Noel says "Fucked Up Girl".)
Another side note: I know that in the 2018 version of RTC, Constance plays the "Zolarian Queen". But because this is MY movie concept, I get to do what I want. And I say Jane Doe is the Zolarian Queen instead (SpaceDolls 4 Ever! <3).
"Ballad of Jane Doe" will be in stop motion (either using paper or puppets). In the first half, we see her recount the accident. She looks like how she does now (with the doll head). She hits the ground right before "And from the ground beneath my feet", and her head falls off. We see her laying headless on the ground for a some time while other carnival patrons are screaming and getting away from her. On "Just John and Me" she stumbles back to her feet. And on "Forever Eternally Jane Doe" she screws her head back on.
In the next verse, we see Jane try to reach out to the other carnival goers, essentially trying to identify her family and friends. When she finds none, Jane boards the rollercoaster again on "Time eats all his children in the end"
Essentially, the idea is that because it's her only memory, Jane is forced re-live the accident over and over again through her song sequence. She desperately wants to find out who she is and what her past was. But the only memory she has to dig through is that of the accident.
She falls to the ground again on "Forever Eternally Jane Doe". Then gets dragged onto the ride a third time by carnies. She looks tired like she doesn't even want to do this anymore. On "Like John I'll be eternally a forgotten name, some lost refrain" we see her fly and float through the air (like how the other choir kids did during Uranium suite). But this time she never hits the ground. Instead, at the end of the song, she just reappears in the warehouse.
Constance's song, "Sugar Cloud", is the only individual segment that isn't animated. Instead, it's shot in live-action, but in full technicolor! Think like how vibrant Barbieland looked in the Barbie movie. Like that. The reason why "Sugar Cloud" is in live-action is because Constance is romanticizing her life as it was, rather than what it could have been.
Constance begins her first verses, still in sepia, at the warehouse. But when she goes "Let me take you away", she struts forward and the scenery changes behind her to that bright technicolor look. And instead of being at the warehouse, they're back at the carnival. But everything is bright and sunny and idealistic.
During Constance's recorder solo, the choir gets new outfits that reflect each of their personalities. The outfits magically poof on out of thin air. The choir members keep these new outfits for the duration of the song, then go back to their school uniforms after the sequence is over.
When Jane Doe is chosen to live again, her body fades away, leaving behind a roll of film. Ricky slides this film into a projector, and the choir watches the reel of Penny Lamb’s life together.
After Karnak’s death, we see the sepia filter lift off from the film. Along with it, we finally get to see how much decay and disrepair has taken over the warehouse. The choir members have a spiritual glow around their bodies.
The choir members perform the last song, “It’s Not A Game/It’s Just a Ride” inside the warehouse. As the sun rises, their bodies fade away.
Title card rolls at the sound of crashing metal.

According to Matthew Belloni of the website Puck, a "good source" says that Warner Bros is now letting the filmmakers shop Coyote vs. Acme around to other distributors after seeing the outcry. A source says the film actually did not test that well, though another source says the film was good enough to be shown in theaters. I would not get too excited just yet, as this is just from a source and not an official announcement.

The new Spiderverse movie is very good! I personally enjoyed the story very much, but I also think it's worth seeing purely for the visuals. The animation is gorgeous. The different types of stylized modeling and rendering are so refreshingly new and ambitious. The vibrant lighting and texture and sense of impact in some specific places looked so compelling to me that it felt realer than live action, especially in comparison to the drab lighting and awkward physical hybridization of some modern CGI-heavy films.
The movie does have an issue with flashing images and lights. It starts at the very beginning and continues pretty much all the way through, which will make it completely inaccessible to some people. I had a slight headache on the way in and the movie aggravated that quite a bit.
I do also wish that I had asked for an assistive device or that I could have seen a version that had put the subtitles directly on the screen. (I'm a "the subtitles are ALWAYS on" person at home.) There's a lot of fast talking in this movie. I'm probably going to see it again so that I can notice more of the intensely rich visual details, and I'll probably ask for an assistive device so that I can have subtitles and catch more of the jokes.

how do you feel abt the new live action one piece trailer 👀🤔
Okay so as a fan who has been keeping up with the live action cast/etc. ever since Netflix announced that it was in the works, I am beyond proud and impressed. The chemistry with the cast, the wholehearted effort towards the set, EVERYTHING! I liked how detailed they were when it came down to the easter eggs. Such as the wanted posters of foxy, Bellamy, AND cavendish, AND even the brand of the WINE Doflamingo drinks in one of his flashbacks in the Dressrosa Arc (the scene where younger doffy is drinking down that wine bottle. Look at the live action trailer part with the butler mary and look at the barrels👀😁) One thing I could say that im displeased about though, is some of the fans. There are fans who are complaining about Arlong and how’s he’s not big, buff, and mostly CGI. People fail to realize that Arlong is a FISH👏🏾 MAN👏🏾 he his a fish/human HYBRID. He’s supposed to look realistic and not cartoonish. Remember, this is a LIVE 👏🏾ADAPTATION👏🏾 another thing im displeased about is the people saying “cringe” or anything negative, just don’t watch it. It’s just that simple. In Oda’s recent letters/statements about the live action, he knows people are going to have their opinions about the Netflix series coming out and how it shouldn’t do to OTHER live action anime director’s FAULTS , but he doesn’t care. Oda gave his APPROVAL. He mentioned that many directors in the past approached him and he turned them down. He saw the potential in Steve (main show runner/director) and gave him the green light. Not to mention Oda is heavily involved with the Netflix series. There’s no way Oda would easily give up his successful baby to just anybody now…steve had to PROVE that he was worthy and he is.😌

Variety Interviews Ayo Davis, Meredith Roberts And Emily Hart On Disney Television Animation's 40th Anniversary And What To Expect On From The Past, Present And Future
40 years ago, Disney TVA was founded on the heels of challenging outcomes with features “The Fox and the Hound” and “The Black Cauldron.”
Initially, Disney TVA was restricted from using established Disney legacy characters, but nevertheless had huge successes with new shows like “The Wuzzles” and “Adventures of the Gummi Bears,” both of which became popular in syndication. As time went on, DTVA was able to use its limited rights to create shows like “DuckTales” and “TaleSpin,” which featured Disney characters. Today, the slate has evolved to include shows that travel across Disney’s streaming, linear and digital platforms, including Disney+, Disney Channel, Disney Junior and the Disney Parks
Over the 40 years of the studio has collaborated with Walt Disney Imagineering to bring beloved Disney Afternoon characters to the parks as well Mickey And Minnie's Runaway Railway and AquaMouse for the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure cruises from the Disney Cruise & Ships Line as well collaborating with Disney Yellow Two Shoes Team to redesing some heritage characters for the WDW Passholder Magnets.
Disney TVA characters also have gone to the realm of live action. In 2019 Disney Channel brought Kim Possible to the live action world as a Disney Channel Original Movie in 2019. In Spring 2022, Walt Disney Studios brought Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers to a new generation of fans trought a meta-driven live action/animated hybrid film which won an Primetime Emmy Award for Best Feature Film.
In April 2024, it was announced that Kiara from The Lion King II: Simba's Pride created at Disney TVA will make her live action debut on the motion capture/computer animated film "Mufasa The Lion King" with the character being voiced by Blue Ivy Carter. In Fall 2023, it was announced that Blumhouse Television and Atomic Monster where developing a live action reboot of Gargoyles for Disney+.
The future of the studio looks bright as the studio is slated to debut it's 100th show overall "StuGo" in 2025, as well new interations of beloved classics like The Proud Family, Phineas And Ferb, Sofia The First and Darkwing Duck trought revivals, reboots and spin-offs in the coming years with early talks of new interations of TaleSpin, Kim Possible and Recess since Early 2023.
“We have a wildly diverse development slate because we don’t have a house style,” says Meredith Roberts, executive vice president, television animation, Disney Branded Television and CEO of Disney Television Animation “Our styles are creator-driven, so that allows for real support of the artist or creator to fulfill his or her vision. Anything is possible, whether it's CGI. (“Monsters at Work”), hand-drawn 2D (“Big City Greens”,"Primos","Hailey's On It!"), rig-based 2D (“Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur”,"Kiff") and stop-motion (“Mickey Saves Christmas”,"Rhona Who Lives By The River".). Roberts continues, “We really try and solve all the problems and develop it. We look at the scripts and the story arcs. Every project has to have a strategy behind it that will complement the slate and separate it from other things. Each project has a distinct swim lane to attract an audience. And we’ve learned to meet the kids where they are, in terms of streaming and YouTube.”
Co-viewing, the viewership that happens when adults sit down to watch a DTVA show with the kids in their lives, is part of the studio’s secret sauce and long-term strategy. Many of the shows are written with jokes and plot points for both audiences so both groups will return.
“We double down on the kids and family space,” says Roberts. “We’re not just dipping a toe in the water. We’re diving in. I think we’ve seen a lot of churn with the competition, who just don’t have the patience to develop and are for this audience, which is a very specialized kid audience and co-view audience.” ("The Witchverse", "Rhona Who Lives By The River","InterCats","Fantasy Sports") Roberts reflects: “I think one of the things I’m most proud of is how stable Disney TVA has been for the last 40 years despite a lot of outside churn of the animation industry. Many of our crews feel that Disney is their forever home. I think the excitement they have to illustrate and create with this brand has been terrific because it’s harder to be funny and clean. And nowhere are we tearing down people to get that laugh. I think that’s the beauty of a Disney animated show.”
DTVA also sought to meet kids where they are by making their audience — which is made up of the most diverse generation in history — feel seen, with series such as “Elena of Avalor,” which featured Disney’s first Latina princess, and “The Proud Family,” franchise focused on the life of a teenage Black girl.
“We do have an amazing insights team that are constantly in the field, giving us general information about how kids are watching content, what they’re into,” Emily Hart (VP of Current and Development - Disney Junior) says. “Some of those things are evolving, as we know the ways kids consume content is changing. But there are some universal truths about kids, and it’s great to have that reinforced. Kids still like a lot of the same things that we like. So, there’s a combination that we’re always tracking with every new idea, and we do pilot testing. We get to sit down and talk about the content, and we invite our creators in so they can see the kids talking about it because they’re the audience and they’re the truest test of if the story is going to work.”
Ayo Davis, president of the Disney Branded Television and VP of Current and Development at Disney Television Animation says the division is a “driving force” for memorable kids and family entertainment.
“All of us at Disney Branded Television are so proud of the studio’s 40-year legacy as it continues to entertain future generations with shows like ‘Kiff,’ ‘Big City Greens’ and ‘Mickey Mouse Clubhouse 2.0" --- Davis says.
Those creators who come to DTVA often stay for a long time, partnering with the studio on a variety of different projects or expanding on a hit and reimagining it for the next generation of viewers. “The Proud Family” was a standout in 2001 on Disney Channel. Creator and executive producer Bruce W. Smith is now working on the Emmy-winning “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder,” which is based on the original series. The show follows Penny Proud as she navigates family life and her own childhood.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Being at Disney TVA has allowed me to realize all my artistic dreams,” says Bruce W. Smith. “As a kid, you always have hopes, thoughts, dreams, ideas and characters that can help lay out those ideas in your head. Disney has allowed me to really tap into my creative instinct, at the end of the day, you have to learn how to trust yourself. Meredith Roberts has been a true shepherd for me in all of this, allowing me to stretch my wings. Because of her belief in me and my ideas, she’s really allowed me to blossom as an artist. All that happened at DTVA.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“They really seem to be a place that welcomes your ideas,” Dan Povenmire says of Disney TVA. “They want to find people with real strong ideas of the stories they want to tell, and then they let them tell those stories for the most part. They seem to put storytelling and characters over anything. With [‘Phineas and Ferb’], we would write jokes for the kids and the adults in the room because we knew the adults would be there too. We were just careful not to do any double entendres.”

THE KINGDOM HEARTS MOVIE PPL HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT MIGHT BE A LIVE ACTION/CGI HYBRID? WE'RE SOOOOOOO DONE IF ITS REAL

Have I ever told you guys how much I hate this stupid image?
Tumblr media
It's often used to argue that the Sonic Movie is just "a generic hybrid roadtrip movie" but it doesn't work....most of these aren't even roadtrip movies, just hybrid films that happen to have a scene inside a car.
Most of these examples have nothing in common besides being Live Action/CGI hybrids, which by design feature actors and CGI characters interacting prominently (that's the whole point!). You can't even call it a trope, it's so superficial.

What’re your thoughts on the rumored kh series supposedly in the works? New “sources” say it could be a live action/cgi hybrid (my only takeaway from this is shuddering at the thought seeing a live action Aqua as if there’s anyone worthy enough to even play such a queen honestly)
