-Donnie isn’t averse to EVERYTHING goopy and weird. (Like the yokai pizza he ate w/Leo in “operation: normal” and the Joey pouch he sat in with Leo in “hidden city job”)

here's some facts ive got solidly ironed out so far:

she got mutated into a yellow-bellied slider as omage to how comic jen got mutated from a leo blood transfusion.

she was in the foot clan with young casey but managed to leave when things were getting dicey and she wanted to cut ties with the clan before marrying her girlfriend.

alas, she gets mutated before the ceremony, leading her fiancé to dump her (think fantastic 4).

this drives her to plan revenge on the baron draxum and in the process meet the other mutanimals, where she becomes the leader being the oldest (bar hob, but he barely counts-).

Time to Burst that Bubble...

So, maybe I've always been a little vain. Ok, there is no "maybe" about it. I have always been a little vain -- at least since I was a teenager. I remember being 14 and telling my mother, "if you got it, flaunt it" (I mean really, what 14 year old even says that -- especially to their conservative, Catholic, Italian Mother?). At 14 I already had the tight "bubblegum" jeans, the big hair (what do you expect, it was the 80's) the long thick eyelashes (made thicker with mascara just as they are today) and a body that loved bikini season. I would spend hours (and I mean hours) in front of my sister's full length mirror turning this way and that, tilting my head to the side, and squinting my eyes to see if, in fact, I did look like the next "it" girl or even better, the next Lita Ford (minus the blond, of course).

Yes. I was that girl. You know the one, the girl who lay on her bed bed desperately trying to zip up her best friend's jeans on herself even though they were 2 sizes too small -- isn't that why wire coat-hangers were invented? So one of you (the bff) could pull at the zipper with the hanger while the other held the fabric in place and prayed to God it didn't rip? I refused to let a little thing like size stop me, dammit! I was going to wear them and the tighter the better! Who cares that my mother said I looked like a street-walker and I was going to cut off my circulation and never be able to have babies. What did she know? She only wore jogging pants.

Today, if I wear jeans that are even the right size, I feel like I can't breathe and my insides are being squished and begging for oxygen (maybe my mother did have a point). If my shirt is long enough I can undo the top button (and oh how I miss those easy-to-find jeans of the past with the ol' button fly) but if not, then tights it is -- you can really dress them up with the right pair of boots. Try it.

Some years ago, I discovered "stretchy jeans" --not the itty bitty bubblegum kind of yesteryear (thankfully because really, who wants to see a middle-aged woman wearing those things anyhow? No thanks, not me.) These new jeans, these liberating ones, are part spandex, part lycra and still have that casual look of the I'm-not-trying-too-hard-to-impress-but-really-I-am Levi's of long ago. You know the ones I'm talking about -- the kind of jeans that stretch and grow with you, not against you. These that hold no grudges. These that do not judge, do not threaten to make you baron or cut off your circulation. These jeans that are a friend. My friend. They do not make you feel bad or shame you. They encourage you, their lycra cheering you on like a teenager at a pep rally:

"You can do it!"

"You got this!"

"We believe in you!"

And when these jeans are done up -- no coat hanger used and no body parts hurt or maimed during the process --they look good. Maybe not as good as those bubblegum jeans or my faded Levi's of 1988, but they look good. And in reality, this is where I am at in life. Where we are at. Better than the "mom jeans" of yesterday and slightly less that the jeans-with-a-coat-hanger masquerade.

It seems that high-waisted are the fashion (at the moment) so I don't have to worry much about muffin tops or ass-cracks. I'm ok with that. Low rise gives way to high rise and I consider that with it, along with Weezie Jefferson, we are "movin' on up" the waist, the waist size, and that ugly age number that goes right along with it.

We could give in and continue to undo our top buttons to impress (who, I'm not sure) or we could meet half way somewhere between those of the "bubble gum" and those of "the mom". But giving in is not our style. We fight. We are stubborn. And besides, wire coat hangers are a thing of the past and plastic would never do the job justice. Take it from me. I have already tried.
