A nationwide recall of meat and poultry products potentially contaminated with listeria has expanded to nearly 12 million pounds and now includes ready-to-eat meals sent to U.S. schools, restaurants and major retailers, federal officials said. The updated recall includes prepared salads, burritos and other foods sold at stores including Costco, Trader Joe’s, Target, Walmart and Kroger. The meat used in those products was processed at a Durant, Oklahoma, manufacturing plant operated by BrucePac. The Woodburn, Oregon-based company sells precooked meat and poultry to industrial, foodservice and retail companies across the country. Routine testing found potentially dangerous listeria bacteria in samples of BrucePac chicken, officials with the U.S. Agriculture Department said. No illnesses have been confirmed in connection with the recall, USDA officials said. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has not launched an outbreak investigation, a spokesperson said. The recall, issued on Oct. 9, includes foods produced between May 31 and Oct. 8. The USDA has posted a 342-page list of hundreds of potentially affected foods, including chicken wraps sold at Trader Joe’s, chicken burritos sold at Costco and many types of salads sold at stores such as Target and Walmart. The foods were also sent to school districts and restaurants across the country. The recalled foods can be identified by establishment numbers “51205 or P-51205” inside or under the USDA mark of inspection. Consumers can search on the USDA recall site to find potentially affected products. Such foods should be thrown away or returned to stores for refunds, officials said. Eating foods contaminated with listeria can cause potentially serious illness. About 1,600 people are infected with listeria bacteria each year in the U.S. and about 260 die, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Listeria infections typically cause fever, muscle aches and tiredness and may cause stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions. Symptoms can occur quickly or to up to 10 weeks after eating contaminated food. The infections are especially dangerous for older people, those with weakened immune systems or who are pregnant. The same type of bacteria is responsible for an outbreak tied to Boar’s Head deli meat that has killed at least 10 people since May.

Listeria again. This time in enoki mushrooms imported from Taiwan, by HH Fresh Trading Corp.
The mushrooms were distributed in West Virginia in multiple retail store locations and were sold on August 20 and August 23, with 240 cases for each date.
The mushroom product comes in a 200-gram, clear plastic package marked with barcode #4711498860019 on the reverse.
It doesn't show a picture, or whether the product is fresh or dried, so I don't know which myself, sorry. But if you're in West Virginia, and bought any kind of enoki mushrooms in August and still have them, better check.
... The article talks about the importance of regulating and testing imports. Really? I mean, SURE, yeah, do that, but also, this is the one of only two imported products I've seen recently that's been contaminated with listeria, the rest were ALL american.
I think the danger is mostly coming from inside, here.

in light of the brucepac listeria outbreak, please know that the bacteria involved die at 150F. unlike some bacteria it CANNOT be killed by freezing and the bacteria can continue to grow while refrigerated unless you've got your fridge set to like 33F or something.
note that most microwave foods say to heat them to 165F anyway, so if you follow the instructions, you are at vastly lower risk of catching it than if you don't. if you're worried or have good reason to worry (e.g. pregnant, compromised, old), check with a thermometer.
DON'T eat pre-cooked chicken that you're not heating up to at least 150F. i believe that canned goods should also be safe, but exercise caution.
If you're cooking the chicken from raw, be extra super careful about cleaning up both before and after handling the raw chicken, don't use the same utensils to handle the chicken before and after cooking, and use a thermometer to ensure the chicken hits 165F for at least 15 seconds (you're supposed to do this anyway, but some of us are home cooks not beholden to the government). those are the good practices that brucepac cut corners on.
listeria is a bacteria introduced from surface contamination, so keep this in mind, keep your space clean, and don't eat anything you're not cooking right before consumption.
listeria is MOST DANGEROUS to PREGNANT WOMEN in addition to the children/elders/immunocompromised. please, please, please, if you are pregnant take extra good care of yourself and your baby.

TreeHouse Foods, a multinational food-processing company, announced the voluntary recall of hundreds of its frozen waffle products on Friday. TreeHouse Foods did not say what stores in Canada were affected, however, the waffle products listed on the recall website include Walmart’s Great Value brand, sold at Walmart stores in Canada; Metro’s Selection brand, sold at Food Basics and Metro grocery stores; Sobeys Inc.’s Compliments brand, sold at Foodland, Sobeys, and Fresh Co stores; and Loblaws’ No Name brand, sold at No Frills stores.
